At the base price, I was wondering how well made this would be but I wanted the white/ivory color so I bought it and I am glad I did. I had a guitar that cost a lot more and since I generally only keep one guitar (I am not a hoarder) I wanted to see which I liked better. Of the two, this one was easier for me to play. I like the big hollow-body feel and sound as well. The pickups would be the cheapest part but they are more than passable (though sound is personal and pickups can be changed). The guitar has a lot of heft (weight) to it in, what I consider, a good way. The neck is thicker than what I expected from Ibanez, although it is a hollow-body and not one of their metal guitars. Personally, I will change out the strings for Elixirs, the tuners for locking tuners, and put a Duesenberg tremolo (vibrato) on it (and maybe a roller bridge)(All personal preferences). But even now it is a great guitar to play. I did buy the Ibanez AS100C case for it here on MF (see comment there on the case). This is a great guitar and if anything happened to it I would buy another. It may sound expected in a commentary like this but I would say this is the best guitar I ever owned and I have owned all the brand names. That said, to each their own.BrazilBill
At this price I have no complaints. What I will say is replace the pickups with a name brand PAF style and you'll have a killer tone and a good wood.If I wanted a fancier fingerboard I'd go up a model or two but it's really not necessary. I'm also going to put locking tuners. If you get a AS93 with the Super 58 pickups you won't wanna change those after paying extra. I prefer to get Duncans or something equivalent. I don't feel bad tossing the original pickups on this model. I bought a blemish and still trying to find it!!JD

I am rating it based on the price point expectations I had before ordering. It is a really great guitar. You have to expect that it will come with some defects and issues. Small paint/binding issues, some glue and wood chips loose inside the guitar that I took out. The guitar wasn?t set up well on arrival. I did a string change and truss rod adjustment to get rid of some fretting out on the first fret. The components are cheap, input Jack was broken shortly after my first show with it. The guitar itself is solid! Well built, stays in tune. Neck is very thick. I would purchase another even with issues. I wasn?t expecting a perfect guitar just something that I can play hard and maybe replace some components down the road.Cory
Very nice looking guitar. Set-up pretty well out of the box with fret ends nice and smooth. Needed slight intonation. Unfortunately the shipper basically smashed the box and the three-way toggle switch was damaged and not functional. Rather than send the guitar back I pulled out the switch and was able to repair it. Finish around the switch hole (under the retaining ring) was slightly damaged/cracked and had to repair that as well. The guitar plays and sounds quite nice and other than a small kink in the binding where it joins the neck (smooth and under the finish) it is a pretty guitar. Has a minor rattle somewhere that I can't locate (not string buzz), but doesn't come through when amplified. All in all, I am happy with it and its well worth the price.Michael
This is a nice guitar. It?s well made, has a beautiful charcoal burst gloss finish, and has the wonderful mellow sound of a semi-hollowbody guitar. The blacked out hardware is a nice touch. I learned about this guitar from the guitar gear bloggers on YouTube. They ALL gave it great reviews. Some of the older reviews mentioned that the fret ends needed more polishing, and there was some nitpicking about the size and font of the Indio logo. More recent reviews indicate that these issues have been addressed. MY Indio guitar has polished fret ends and it APPEARS to me that the logo is a bit smaller. The fit and finish are EXCELLENT, so perhaps Monoprice has listened to customer complaints and has tightened up their QC. The BIG news here is the PRICE. EVERYONE, myself included, is STUNNED by how INEXPENSIVE this guitar is. The $250 list price is a STEAL! The YouTube bloggers claim that this guitar will go head-to-head with other 335 style guitars costing 3 times as much! I agree.Kevin

Well built short scale bass; very cool that it has a high F on the first string, my '75 Fender Mustang only goes up to D. This bass is more of a thumper axe that plays well with fingers or pick; feels similar to a Precision bass neck. It is not much for slapping and snapping but I'm starting to find the sweet spot to do that in a pinch. I've been using the natural finish model regularly for about three months and get a lot of positive comments and questions about it. The Starcaster is a heavy bass so if weight is an issue you had better look elsewhere; if you like easy to play short scale thumpers this would be an excellent choice.jzbassguitar
The Starcaster is quite good quality although the original set-up from the factory was fair at best. The intonation had to be adjusted and set correctly. Now corrected it is a fun bass to play and has a nice warm vintage tone. I use a vintage Traynor Bassmaster (1966) Tube Amp YB1-A with a Yamaha 12" bass driver cabinet. Sure gets the old 100 year old windows a rattlin'! For the money its not only a good quality instrument but a piece of artwork, especially in the Cherry Sunburst!G the Bassmaster

Just received this, and the finish on the guitar is gorgeous. Looked at the back and the string through body ferrules were perfectly straight. Action was pretty decent, plugged it in. Only the bridge pickup seems to work. Appears to be a problem with the way the switch is wired. Soldered to the wrong pins. I will fix this myself. Also, the string through body ferrules don't line up on the front of the guitar, made those holes a little bigger, since they are covered by the bridge. Glarry really needs to work on the method they use to drill the string through holes, so they line up both on the front and the back. All in all, a pretty nice guitar, but not quite perfect. Not sure this would be good for a beginner. They would probably return it. I don't want to discourage buyers. For the price, this is a great guitar. Just expect a few issues.
I just received my Glarry GTL Semi-Hollow T-Style. Unfortunately, I am quite disappointed with the build quality of this guitar. At this price point I don't expect the highest quality components. I will say however that the pots feel good with right amount of resistance when turned and both adjust the signal well. The switch feels solid with no noise introduced into the signal and the tuners are smooth. I have no issues with the pickups either. What I do expect is that all of the holes are drilled in the proper locations and things line up the way they are supposed to. The bridge on mine is not only off center but also its mounted crooked. Not only is the appearance so bad it's hard to look at, the mis mounted bridge negatively affects set up and playability for me. The other issue I have is with the neck. The neck thickness at the body is 23.24mm and at the nut it is 23.75mm thick. Maybe this is by design, though I kind of doubt it. In any case, it feels quite "wonky" and looks poor too. Even though the hardware is fine, the build quality of this guitar reminds me of the budget guitars I had in the 1970s. I would think with CNC manufacturing and such, things would be better now.
I've read lots of reviews on the GTL. Mostly positive and I love the look of the guitar, So I decided to take the leap and see with $110 buys. No problem in shipping. Guitar was well protected. Love the look of the guitar. The red and pearloid pick guard are beautiful. But… I was disappointed in the playability of the guitar. Several (9) of the frets were high, needed to be leveled and crowned. There was bad fret sprout all the way up and down both sides of the neck. The action was really high and the set screws on several of the bridge barrels were frozen and difficult to move. The edges of the F hole were not sanded or at least not sanded well. So I removed the strings, leveled and crowned the frets, filed off the rough edges on the fret ends and dressed them, gently sanded the inside of the F hole so it looked better, restrung it, adjusted the truss rod and dropped the action to make it playable. After Setting it up, the humbucker at the neck sounded fine, but the bridge pick up was weak and not balanced, even after raising it up and dropping the humbucker down. I really like the look, and once I switch out the bridge pu, it will probably be a nice guitar. Maybe I got a lemon. Maybe it sat in the warehouse too long. Wish I got one that other reviews rave about, but I didn't. I'll keep it and use it for mods, but based on my experience with this one guitar, I can't recommend you buy this guitar. I wish I could. It will arrive with action higher than most les Paul's! So you will need to lower it first thing. I got lucky and got nice frets but you may have to do a complete fret job! My strings were good but some say they had to change theirs first thing..now the pickup…the humbucker is actually pretty sweet and more than I expected..the bridge pickup well it's just there…it's decent to say the least…guitar is extremely light, so light it's almost scary…I will definitely have to pull the control plate off and do another update later on!! But all for all it is worth the money if you're willing to do some work on it first!!
When I received the guitar, I found many new upgrades, starting with double boxed packaging with internal neck support. The guitar was wrapped in a foam bag, and inside of the new padded gig bag. The cable has also been upgraded to a heavy nylon covered cable with metal ends, one straight, one 90°plug. Bound Laurel fretboard and bone nut. The awesome Purple finish is near flawless, smoothly applied with no runs, sags, or rough spots. The electronics and hardware all work smoothly, and the tuner hold tune. Out of the box, the guitar plays well, but is in need of a setup, like most new guitars. The Setup: The neck is very straight and needed a slight adjustment of the truss rod to add a bit of relief. There was no fret sprout, but I did find a couple of frets a tad high, (all above the 12th fret), a few taps with the fret mallet sorted that out, and followed with a polish. The nut slots were even and well cut, but the nut was too tall for my liking, file the slots some, to avoid going to deep, I popped the nut off and filed the bottom to bring it into perfect height. A few dabs of PVA (white) glue reset the nut in place. Conditioned the fretboard with some lemon oil, it was really dry, and looks awesome now. Setting the string height and intonation were as simple as turning a few screws. The guitar now looks and plays wonderfully! Closing thoughts: This is a beautiful guitar, and Glarry's upgrades and revisions are greatly appreciated. The padded gig bag is nice, but grab yourself a soft, flurry towel to line the bag for extra safety, If you want even more security, Glarry sells a hard case to fit this guitar. If you are into mods this is a great platform. Want a Bigsby? add it, custom pickups? why not, locking tuners and strap lock? for me always! Way to go Glarry!

Overall this is a lot of guitar for 350.00 bucks. I have been modding out guitars for a number of years and have gotten a pretty good ear for pickups.So I am a little picky when it comes to that. GFS pickups are cheap but a great value for the money. The workmanship on the neck and body is near perfect. The set up was just slightly high for me so I made small adjustments to the action. I love this guitar now. It's like a mix between a Les Paul and a 335 Gibson. I bought this guitar online and was a little surprised when I opened it. I got the "Gold Top" thinking it would similar to a gold top LP. Well, it is actually Gold Metal Flake WOW!! what a surprise. But after feeling the workmanship that ESP put into this thing, I've gotten used to the bright paint and actually really like it now. The only thing I didn't care for was the pickups, which were muddy, especially the neck. So I put on a set of GFS Retrotrons and I tell you, this guitar flat rocks. I am very pleased with it now. They said that the pickups were ESP 150's which get great reviews. But when I took them out they said they were G&B pickups, which I have never heard of so they went away. I wish I could have gotten the black or red finish one but the gold with black hardware is really nice actually.
Have had this for a few months now and am still very happy with it. Can't be beat for the price. Great look, great sound, great neck. Does the world really need one more person playing a Les Paul? Nah, get something different! I let another friend play this who owns a dozen plus guitars (including LP and tele), many of them vintage. After a day with the PS-1 he was off looking at ESP's website to learn more and see what else they have that he did not know about. These guitars are the best secret out there!TickyTicky
Best guitar for the money out there. A+ body, neck, hardware, craftsmanship, and playability. Way better than anything in this price range out there. Haven't touched my Epi Dot since I got this. Neck and set-up were spot-on from factory, stays in tune. Love the block inlay and white binding. Feels expensive, solid and weighty. After 3 yrs of high use I have had no issues at all. The stock pick-ups are a bit thin sounding. I recently installed some Gibson 57's and its barely secondary to my LP Custom. In closing, I currently buy and sell a lot of guitars. I haven't found anything on par with my PS2 for less than a G-note. Good buy for the beginner, easy to mod. Great for someone who already has pups. Get it! You know you want one!guitarHog

Real pleased with my purchase. I don't think of price when I buy a guitar as they are inflated lately. In saying that, This guitar required a few things to get it playing well. Frets needed to be polished. Strings replaced with diadero 10s XL. Cleaned the nut slots, and finally made a large adjustment to the truss rod, bridge and stop tail. The number 2 position with the bridge pickup in single coil mode, works amazing for me. Impressed totally.StevanC
