I hardly ever review stuff. Also, it is hard to write a review like this without sounding like a bit of an ass, but here goes: I've been playing for 20+ years. Lots and lots of time spent playing on and off stages in all manner of venues. These strings are hands down and without question absolutely, positively the best strings I have ever played. I have been playing .10-.52's for years and the Stringjoy set just kills. If it wasn't true that I will NEVER buy another brand of strings again, I would say that Stringjoy strings are too good to be good business. I change strings about three times LESS than I used to. And while I used to blow my b or e strings off my guitar routinely during shows, I (almost) never breaks strings now. These things have unparalleled life and longevity and sound snappy gig after gig after gig (well, back when we used to do that sort of thing). We've all played all the major brands. Frankly, I considered them interchangeable and just had dogmatic loyalty to certain brands for no particular reason that would change from time to time (availability?). If you don't have a lot of playing time under your belt bending strings and playing hard, you may not notice how good Stringjoy strings are. If you are a serious player, do yourself a favor and get a set (Hell, get 10 sets). You might not notice the difference immediately, but you'll notice the following month when you haven't broken a string and they sound just as good as they did when you strapped 'em on. I've been playing/collecting new and vintage guitars for 26 years, and regularly try new strings. I noticed that if these strings contact the bridge when re-stringing, the color will chip off immediately. Secondly, they feel like dull plastic. This feels like your fingers are dragging, and seems "cheap". Thirdly, I had to adjust all the pickup heights on the low-E, as the heavier strings sound completely dull and lifeless. I also received a damaged string, and contacted DR customer service. I haven't even received a response in two weeks, which demonstrates how unimportant we are. In this day and age, where online retail is more important then ever, this is unacceptable. This is NOT a reflection on Guitar Center, which always takes good care of me. Ultimately, these strings are a cheesy gimmick that will hopefully fade out. If you want quality coated-strings, try Elixir.DS
I decided to pick up guitar after a 15 year break and found Rocksmith to be a pretty useful tool. I put these on my guitar to help with getting familiar with the fretboard and neck. Because it's been awhile. The first couple of days, the strings sounded great with no issues, but a couple of weeks in, some of the strings sound muted a little bit and are just not as crisp as non-coated strings. i'll probably take these off sooner than later. I tried these strings on copy of an ES-335 style guitar. The pickups are not as alive as I would like. The strings appeared to add energy to the pickup and resonate well. I enjoyed the new sounds and power when playing. I was able to bend the strings to my heart's content and pretend that I was a blues master. Do not be afraid to give these strings a go.Ed
The best sounding and feeling strings I have ever used. Most of my guitars have vintage powered pickups and these strings are extremely clear sounding. They sound great on my Strats and Teles. They sound fantastic on my '61 RI SG and LTD PB 500 (Duncan Alnico II pickups). They still have the "slinky" feel of regular Ernie Ball strings. They seem to last a little longer too. If you are a bedroom player, you will like them. If you are a gigging player you will love them. I have always used EB strings, these are now the only strings I use.ShaneC
These are great strings. The feel like Slinkys to me, but are a little more slippery. Sustain is fantastic. I wore out a set of DR DDT (11 bottom) so, I put them on my Ibanez GRG121. This guitar has dinky weak humbuckers, but a pinch holds way longer with the strings…to the point that it feels more like upgrading the pickups. Maybe it's placebo, but I could swear they have a tighter swing too. I went thinner than the DDTs (obviously) putting these on and some of the first moment fret butt I got above fret 15 went away. Maybe it's just bc their thinner, but watching them I think they swing less. Try these strings… *Note: They leave a nasty bitter on your fingers.Steve

I seen people was giving these strings bad reviews because after 2 weeks of playing everyday, they said strings go bad. I have NEVER had any issues with these strings, i for one say replace your strings every 2 weeks anyway ESPECIALLY if you play everyday. But owning multiple guitars sometimes it never goes that way, i have now had these on my jackson, and i put them on 5 months ago, play everyday and there still going strong, hardly any rust, definitely tell their wore out but over all BEST STRINGS on the market, great tone, great durability, never breaks, and great feel.Durbify
These are punchy and dynamic strings, with a certain warmth and colour to them. Like pure nickel strings, only the wound strings have the cobalt alloy wrap. If you like pure nickels, to get away from that grainy/dark/grey of normal iron/steel strings, but wish for something a little darker and with more outright balls than pure nickels, you will absolutely love these!4992andy

A very good friend of mine uses these strings all the time; on all of his guitars. After playing few of his instruments, i understood why. In my opinion, these strings are pretty nice. They are smooth (not sticky feeling like flat wound chomes) and they seem to hold there tone pretty well. You get the manufacturing process of DR 's specific string core winding technology the way they make their High Beam bass and guitar and guitar strings. DR pure Blues strings are as bright, loud and clear and well made both material and manufacturing wise as electric guitar strings can be. I wanted to try something different. I had EB slinkys on my Gretsch Jet. I decided to give the DR handmade Pure Blues a go. Personally I think these are better than the EB. They feel and sound different. Playing seems to take less effort than the EB’s. I would suggest do a google search on stringing roundcore strings. Apparently there are pitfalls if you don’t string them right. I’m going to order a couple more packs just in case. I’m very tempted to try the acoustic strings as well.DGB

I went through two sets of these after my friend recommended them to me and boasted about how amazing they were. I had been using Ernie Ball Slinky sets and was still a fairly new player at the time, so I was trying to discover my sound. I put these strings on my Epiphone G-400. Tonally, the strings were pretty responsive and could really sing. However, I didn't like the fact that I had to crimp the wound strings due to the round core wire. It's just extra work, and I hate restringing as it is. Another problem: String breakage. Out of all the string brands I've tried, none of them have been as prone to breaking as DRs. Good tone shouldn't come at the cost of weak strings. Ernie Balls not only cost less, but their overall quality has been superior so far. Sorry, DR.

Love these strings. Clean, bright, ringing tone and easy to bend. I like the Hybrid gauge for the lighter top end, but sometimes 9's tend to unravel at the ball. The end wrap eliminates this problem, and I haven't lost one since switching to the RPS type. I use these mainly for blues. On a short scale guitar, like an SG or a 335, (I use them on a custom, 24.75", short scale Strat and a '64 Hagstrom H2 with a 24.375" scale), I suggest replacing the 16p "G" string with an Ernie Ball 18w. The heavier gauge wound string compensates for the lower tension of the short scale, and makes for a fuller mid range. If they made this set with a wound "G", it would be perfect. IMHO.Steve
if you have a stop tail peice style guitar and need strings that eliminate the slipping around the ball end, these are the ones. Great strings, overall good tone, stays in tune well. I was having tuning issues with a les paul. Not anymore, these strings eliminate string slipping at the ball end. They stay in tune better than any strings I have used on the guitar. That adds to the overal sound of the strings, which is as good as any other stings out there. excellent no issues at all. these are not overpriced, but somewhat more expensive than the bargin sets. They are worth the extra buck or two a set.
If I had to use one set of strings, I would go with this one. Besides being incredibly reliable and consistent (no disparity between packs) these strings have served well under different weather conditions and on long hauls. I always keep these in reserve when going on the road as the gauges in the pack can work as substitutes for other strings and brands. Meaning, you can mix and match should you break a string on a guitar that's tuned to D. I've always had loyalty to the brand, though I do use a variety of strings for the other instruments I play. My Mitchell MS450 (single cutaway LP style guitar) came with D'Add's, which sounded decent. When I switched them out, I went with the GHS 10's on a hunch based on things I've heard. Great move! I used 11's from D'Addario for years and I would break a string consistently for every show that I played. I do not know why I kept with D'Addario for so long. I figured I needed to have a heavier string gauge for durability and better tone. Searched around and came across these strings in the heavy gauge, and I could not be happier with them. These strings have great sustain, are durable, do not corrode as quickly as other brands I have used in my professional career playing music, and, despite their heaviness, are easy to play in standard tuning. Along with playing well with a pick and fingers, these strings also sound terrific when playing slide. You can get the same great tones out of these strings that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have with their lighter gauges, as well as channeling the fat tones that you hear from Duane Allman from the Fillmore East show. Great Garcia tones can come from these strings as well. Basically what I am saying is that you can still get those classic guitar sounds on these heavy strings without feeling like your losing tone or playing opportunities utilized by the players that inspire you who may use lighter string gauges. These strings also (as far as I know) have a round core instead of a hex core. I think that might be a reason why these strings have so much sustain, especially when you have some distortion or overdrive keeping them warm while playing lead. If you are on the fence about getting these, I recommend you give them a try just see how they work for you. They are no that expensive and its worth it to figure out what works for you as a player. I used to use Boomers for about 10 years, on all my electrics (9s). Until arthritis started creeping in. Switched to EB slinky 8s, and playing became much easier. Everything still had a huge sound, but previous order added a test set of the Boomer 8.5s for my Gibson Les Paul goldtop with P90s. Took a while to get used to the rougher feel compared with the EB 8s. But will probably order another set for the goldtop, and a set for my ES295.Joe S.

Better than expected. Solid tone. Easy to play. Just right. Not too bright, just clean and tight, as a well made set should sound. Lows still great, even at the slightly lighter gauge. Don't get me wrong, they can get plenty bright if you want that. Just that they didn't seem as extra bright as some kinds try to be because they can with all the "super nano ultra special coated infused …but still hand crafted somehow" type stuff. Was never happy with previous sets on my 5 string. With these, I was able to set up with slightly lower action. This alone is worth it on my instrument. Finally, it's the bass it should've always been. Waited way too long to find these. I hope they keep making them. Probably going to order a few extra sets and try to keep a few on hand. Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. Been using the 8250-5M set for awhile. Wanted to try a lighter gauge. I get more guitar tones out of these. I was concerned I might overpower them since I'd used medium gauge for a couple of years. These are literally perfect on my Modern Player Jazz Bass V and 2 1993 Jazz Plus Vs. I bought the Modern Player new from Musiciansfriend. I think this light set is the set that it had on it. I use a pick, single and double thumb as well as two finger picking techniques. The E and B strings give a nice low end. The A, D and G strings have a growl and bright tone and respond well to picking or plucking. I'll be using these strings for some timegeorgesguitars

I really like these strings. They are warm, and give what I believe to be the best tone on my Stratocaster's and Telecaster. I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. Once I get to play the 11's, I will give a review on that product page. As far as Fender Pure Nickel strings go…you can't go wrong on the tonal quality. Rock on!!!White Dog
For years I've played flatwound strings, but when I bought my new Fender American Professional Jaguar I was taken by how lively and expressive the strings were! I left them on. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. BUY THESE ! I hadn't used Fender strings for 30 years . A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I went to a local music store and bought a pack of Fender's . as an experiment I wasted to see how long before one would break . SIX WEEKS ! .. THEY LASTED 6 WEEKS ! .. I took a lot of years off and I had stock 10s on my G&Ls that was killing my hands so I played those for a while and endured my shortcomings as my hands were in training to regain the strength of my youth. Then made the switch to Ernie Ball Hybrid 0946s and that felt better but still felt like a battle when playing faster licks and solos. A friend suggested that I try the NYXL0942. Wow! I felt like I was in a time warp and back to my old self from years ago. These NYXLs have initially withstood my bending and time will tell to see if they are as tough as advertised. Also they feel like I am playing nylon strings so they are a lot more comfortable. Could be the lighter gauge but I think the string design also has something to do with that. The only thing I notice is that they do not ring out as loudly as my previous strings but it does not matter when you plug in. Really glad about these strings and will probably be putting these on all my guitars.MediumSexy
I love the sound of NYXL. They provide me with a pearl like sound that I can use for jazz as well as for heavier sounding music. The strings have qualities that last for a very long time. I usually change my strings every week. I left them for a month on my guitar just to see how they would sound. They sound fantastic… they would lose some freshness after about two weeks but they still hold a great deal of quality after two months playing. They also stay in tune after you pull your strings. These strings are a great sounding string with a full tone. I typically used an 11 string guage and went down to a 10 on my current guitar setup. When I tried the 9s I thought I would lose some of the warmth and fullness, but they sound fairly consistent with with heavier guage strings and are easier to play and bend. I build guitars and buy these for setups period. I have tried to use these on one occasion just for kicks but found the tension all wrong. Not so much on the wound strings as the unwound upper strings. I found the tension and feel really poor. They seemed to be ridiculous to bend and if you managed that they felt like they were about ready to snap. I did not like the brittle tone either. The feel of these is just all wrong but they are cheap and fine to use for building but my guitars would never go out with these!Thump54
Musicians Gear strings are perfect for any player. If you get your strings for free because of an endorsement deal, you can claim a better value. I don't have that option = I pay for my strings. I change strings about once a month, sometimes more often, because NOTHING sounds as good as a new set of strings. But I can't afford big coins to keep fresh strings on them. These MGs are very affordable, they sound great, they play well, they are consistent, and I am very happy when I play with new strings. Absolutely can't tell that these are coated strings at all. They are bright without being super honky that you have to break in, they are smooth to play, and only sound better the longer you have them. They last an insanely long time with heavy use while still sounding fresh as can be, I play every day and change mine once every 10 months to a year. I guess I'll have to give Elixirs a fair try because they are the only brand I haven't used on bass yet, but have no idea what the last review was about saying these strings aren't good. They are downright amazing. I don't do reviews but I stand by the products that stand by me. The price is absolutely worth every last penny. Try them and you'll never look back!Mike B
My personal favorite coated strings, they have a great balanced tone perfect for rock and roll. They last forever, and keep their tone for months even with heavy playing. They have a warm low end and snappy responsive highs. I typically don't like coated strings as I find they impede my playing, however these strings feel like there's nothing there! I really like the tone and flexable feel of these strings. They have a good sound that does sound to bright or feel to slick, unlike elixers. I will probably purchase again if i find a great deal on them but unfortanatly i didnt get my moneys worth because the g string broke in two weeks. The only other thing i didnt love is that the big e string has so much wrapping at the ball that i had to jam my pin in a little more than was comfortable to hold it in. All in all the positives outway the negatives, the biggest thing to improve on would be durability.tyrw21

I will only use DR high-beams probably the rest of my musical career, unless I happen to get a bunch of free strings again. Even then, I'll probably give a ton away like I did last time, so that I could start using DR's again. LOL! I can't believe I didn't add this review earlier, as I've been using them nearly 10 years. They really are as great as others say. Note, I'm not referring to any of the coated strings they make. I've used the black set they made some years ago, but they were very dull. Even the new neon colored ones seem to get mixed reviews. If you have any common sense, it's pretty safe to say they are not going to be as bright as uncoated strings, and no surprise that the color flakes off. Comparing to popular other strings (EB slinky's, Blue Steel, etc.) these are hands down noticibly better. I never had a huge string preference before DR's, and always felt I never really found "my" string. After a friend swore by DR's, I never went back to anything else. I use the high-beam's. I've used the tite-fit, blue's, and the first black coated strings they made, but the high-beam's are my babies. They are SUPER bright, and just sound great. It's unreal how long they hold their tone. Quality is unreal. These strings last forever. Having toured, and playing shows every night for months, with Ernie Balls (I had 4 boxes for free), I'd have to change every few nights. DR's eliminate that issue. They literally take months and months to lose any brightness, and almost never break. I'm not prone to breaking strings anyway, but I think I've had a DR break on me twice in the past almost decade. Tension remains true throughout their life of use. I've had these strings on a guitar that I didn't play for months, and when I picked it up, still played and sounded amazing. Still in tune too! If you don't believe me, try them out. Excellent value. They are usually about $5.99 on MF. Sometimes more in local stores, but if you compare to other crap strings, they are really only a dollar more if even. When you factor in what you're getting, it's well worth it…a string that you hardly have to replace, and hardly ever breaks.
I play Rickenbackers (a 360 and a 381). Rickenbackers have a signature sound to them, often referred to as the "Rickenbacker chime". Using a string with the right characteristics certainly aids in enhancing this tonal quality of Ric guitars and their electronics. As advertised, the Hi-Beam hex core strings are a brighter sounding string than their Tite-fit round core counterparts (they are in fact brighter than most anybody else's standard strings). Over the years, I have tried every brand and string size on the market. I only found 3 brands that supply that sparkle I like to hear from my Rics. One had great tone but was highly prone to string breakage. The other also had great tone, but lost their sparkle more quickly than I thought they should. The DR Strings LTR-9's have worked superbly. I have had no string breakage issues and they have maintained their liveliness for a reasonable period of time. I play every week-end and practice 4-6 hours during that same time period. I change strings every 6-8 weeks. I use to string heavier using 10's or 11's. However, in order to get the big bends I would sometimes want, without tuning down, I found that the 9's were an acceptable compromise and allowed me to maintain standard tuning. I have no complaints with these strings what-so-ever. They perform/sound exactly as advertised and give me exactly what I want to hear from my Rics.
Pure and even tone from string to string. Edgy. Tight lows and sparkling highs. Bright, clean, clear. But not shrill. Just a bright, clean tone. Chords ring with authority. Leads drill holes into your brain. String noise is a minimum but yet the string amazingly retains special harmonic quality. These strings seem to be high quality and well-made. I got a pair of these strings and put them on my main guitar three weeks ago and I must say these are probably some of the best strings I have ever owned. These strings are really bright and have really good tone. The gauges are really a good fit, but are not for everyone. The top strings are great for soloing while the bottom hold down the rhythym really well. They have excellent character and tone. I definately recommend these strings to anyone looking for a good bright tone, and "Heavy" sounding lows but top string bendability.
I have played a wide variety of string brands and gauges since I have been playing guitar and the Dave Mustaine Progressives are by far my favorite. I know some people complain about the gauge sizes but once you get used to them and give them some time you ll have no problem pulling off whatever kind of playing style you d want. I love having the extra tension for pinch harmonics as well I feel like I have more control over them. The reason I bought these is a was reading the gauges Marty Friedman uses and I have heard in the past that thicker strings can lead to warmer and fuller tones. I m not 100% these sound any warmer or fuller than the others I have played on, but they have the perfect feel for heavy riffs, harmonics, tapping, sweeping or whatever else you want to throw at them.
Well, I guess for some, these would be great strings, but not for me. On the plus side, the sound is great, no doubt about that. Nice bright tone. Sounds sweet with distortion or clean. When I play clean and kick on the chorus they sound perfect. Same with distortion. And they look good, too. But, and this is a big but, as some others have said they are thick. For me, it's just the low strings that I have a problem with the thickness. Like when I play on the low E string, I feel like I'm playing bass. This isn't really a problem sometimes, like if I'm strumming or playing chords, but if I'm shredding, it just doesn't work out for me. I'm used to playing GHS xtra light Boomers. So this was a BIG difference. Luckily, I got some GBXL's too. I mean, I know they make Progressives in lighter gauges, but I can't find them anywhere. These strings are good, just too heavy of a gauge for my tastes.In conclusion, if you just play power chords and breakdowns, these strings are great. But if you're doing a lot of sweeping or legato, I wouldn't recommend these. I'm not the best guitar player, so they may be perfect for other people, but for me, they are just way too thick.The Jester
