Reviews:
I bought this used through Guitar Center to boost the output of my Eastman 815 acoustic-electric mandolin, which has an internal microphone but was too quiet. I'm a hobbyist but play in worship settings. I was able to EQ the output to sound like the natural mandolin tone and to boost the volume which was important to me, since, on occasion, I play outdoors or in a large church sanctuary. The tuner is a great asset, making clip-on tuners unnecessary. The tone boost gives the mandolin even more volume for those times when you want to play a solo. The unit runs on a 9V battery or a 9v DC adapter. I happened to own already own a 9v DC adapter, and it gave the unit much more power than the battery, which was great. I definitely recommend getting a 9v DC adapter. This was a good buy!Jamie
From the very first moment I plugged in both my Martin D42 guitar with it's Fishman pickup and my five string Stelling Banjo with the KAVANJO pickup system to their respective LR baggs Venue DI preamp's a smile lit up on my face. The sound, the controlled sound, the natural sound that came out of each device was absolutely wonderful. I would have to say that my banjo sounded incredibly smooth… And the guitar tone was the best I've ever gotten from my Martin D 42. It was a pleasure to listen as a strummed or finger picked each instrument. And you could tell that the audience was listening intently… There was no distortion whatsoever. And I've really just started using the device, and haven't fully dialed in the potential. I'd also read a lot about the tuner not being accurate… Well I have two Petersen tuners… Clamp-ons … one on each instrument and I double checked it with the baggs built-in tuner… And so far it has been spot on. The boost switch is fantastic and the mute couldn't be better. I am completely satisfied and delighted that I purchased one LR Baggs Venue DI for each instrument.
I've got 2 LR Baggs Para DI's and have been wanting to try out the Venue DI. I have a Taylor 814 V Deluxe, Taylor 614 and a Taylor 354. I always bring at least one of the 6 strings and the 12 string when I play. All 3 guitars have different tonal qualities, so I wanted separate DI's with EQing abilities for each. The Paras do very well, but I found the Venue to be quicker to dial in a great acoustic tone and it sounds more transparent to me. I love the boost function too!!! Very well built! Like others who have reviewed, the tuner is slow to respond at times and phantom power would have been nice – otherwise this is a 5-plus stars.

Reviews:
I’ve been searching for multi effects/DI pedal to compliment my Weissenborn style acoustic guitar. My sound hole passive pickup does a great job except for a somewhat weak output. Enter The Zoom AC-3 to the rescue. Now I have output headroom to spare. Everything about it is top shelf. Extremely flexible effects (kudos to ZOOM for using knobs rather than menu driven). And, it’s build quality is terrific. Very solid unit. I’m very glad I decided to try the ZOOM AC-3. BTW, the AMS payment options are unbeatable!SC n NC
I needed a DI box that could also boost the signal to the PA for solos and the Zoom does that well; the stage tuner is helpful, though I still use headstock tuners from habit and have accidentally muted my guitar stepping on the tuner switch when I wanted the boost switch. Providing presets for guitar body style should be useful, but once an effect is chosen I'll likely stick with it and use the equalizer knobs instead. Rarely use reverb playing with other instruments through the PA. The anti-feedback function and lift button haven't been needed though that was a big problem with my old DI box. Not using batteries, but two AA ones probably wouldn't last long.Mike
Makes a 200 dollar guitar sound like a 1000 dollar guitar. Makes a 1000 dollar guitar sound like a 2000 dollar guitar and so forth. The tape delay and tremolo sound so lush and amazing. The other effects sound amazing too, but I love the tape delay. What is amazing about this pedal is that it gets your little nuances and fixes them by smoothing them over. It's hard to find this pedal under 300 dollars, but if you have to own just one pedal for an acoustic then this is the one.satu87121
4. Tc Electronic Bodyrez Acoustic Pickup Enhancer
Product Details:
This is the tc electronic bodyrez acoustic pickup enhancer. it adds a significant amount of bass and "body" resonance to acoustic guitars when they are plugged in with their electric pickups. the challenge with electric-acoustics has always been that you lose a significant amount of bass and resonance when you choose to plug it in versus mic'ing it like you would a standard acoustic guitar setup. this pedal adds back those missing frequencies in the simplest way possible. one knob, tune it to taste and you sound amazing again.

Reviews:
Guitars used: A Martin with minimal electronics, the tone does nothing. Another with LR Baggs more of everything. I have an EQ pedal an Compressor on my acoustic board to begin with. I was interested to see if this pedal basically did the same thing. After switching on and off comparisons I ended up keeping the Rez and taking off my EQ pedal. I could not duplicate what the Rez does with my EQ and Comp pedals. I did back my compressor way down to very light. I could have done without it but I like it. The Rez does kill feedback nicely even when I was sitting directly in front of my amp doing the tests. I got feedback with the pedals when pushing the bass and mids trying to match it but none with the Rez. After running through a bunch of my songs I really liked the new sound and picking dynamics. If you are not a pedal person this is the only pedal you will need at gigs and open mics. It does come with a 9v power supply. Nothing for instructions. It has one dial you turn it till you like it.AZ PICKER
I play a Taylor, and even the Expression System can use some help when you are in a live situation, playing through a PA. Many of the other "preamp" type options out there are great, but cost 200 – 300. This box warms up the sound, adds some compression, and just sounds fantastic! Dead simple to use, as it has one adjustment knob. Footswitch turns the unit off/on, but with a hold can mute the signal for guitar changes. Also has the ability to switch the phase in order to get rid of low-end feedback in some situations. Bottom line, the Body Rez is just another example of the innovative folks at TC Electronics. Love this pedal, and it has earned a spot on my pedalboard!Austin Steve

The Mooer Acoustikar does pretty good. Take little tweaks to get it to do what it will do. Use it with my Gretsch hollow body electric g5122. I use the Acoustikar for rhythm and use the bridge pickup to help clarity and set the Acoustikar flat with the selector switch to normal or jumbo. Doesn't sound like an acoustic guitar but fills the part. Better than some others I've tried.timtim.mmvafuz2

7. Dimarzio Dp234 Black Angel Passive Acoustic Guitar Soundhole Pickup
Product Details:
In keeping with its name, the black angel, a passive magnetic soundhole pickup, is matte black in color. like the angel, the black angel hears the entire range of the acoustic guitar from top to bottom, with no gaps anywhere. its feel is just as important. the black angel tracks right- and left-hand dynamics, and responds immediately to the sound coming off the string. the black angel is quiet and, although its magnetic, it doesnt sound electric theres no hum and no battery. both coils are on a parallel axis to the strings, featuring a humbucking magnetic circuit that is acoustically isolated to reduce unwanted finger and pick noises. players who like to mix two or more pickups together will appreciate the built-in phase switch making the black angel ideal for use in any dual or multi source system, and it can be easily combined with any piezo or microphone. the black angel installs easily and quickly in the soundhole, with no modification to your guitar, and fits soundholes of 3-1/2 inches (89 mm) and larger. the 2-116 e-to-e string spacing on the black angel easily accommodates guitar nut dimensions ranging from 1-1116 to 1-34 inches. both a 18-inch to 14-inch switchcraft endpin jack (install version) and a quick mount 10-foot cable (standard phone jack) are included with the black angel.

Very good pick-up and easy to fit without chopping up my old guitar. One slight issue: the poles are spaced slightly too far apart for my Gibson J50. Optimum sound hole size info is provided in the blurb but not string spacing. I can get some overlap on 1st and 6th strings by turning the pickup so it does the job. (Poles are adjustable so that might be an answer).Reviewed by Absolute Music custo
Since this is a passive pick up it does require a substantial increase in volume from your amp or input. I run it through a red eye twin DI which helps greatly and can adjust the gain. I combined this pick up with a K&K and gives an incredible sound. The pole pieces do need to be adjusted and tailored to your liking. The B and e pieces need to be dropped down significantly. For me I needed to increase the base E, A and D to give a fuller sound. When I compare the K&K to this pick up their pretty close. The K&K has a better definition and clarity but they are close and for some reason when I put them together through the red eye twin di they sound magical together. You really need to adjust the K&K input down and crank up the black angle since it's allot lower input. 50/50 mix of the two sound great.G
8. Lr Baggs Ibeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System
Product Details:
The ibeam s mipa award-winning design employs a matched pair of virtually weightless film sensors that flex with the soundboard to trace your guitar s voice much like diaphragms in a stereo mic. a key advantage over typical bridge plate sensors is the ibeam s cardioid like response pattern that inhibits feedback and string squeak while selectively admitting rich tone-producing vibrations. weighing less than 1/3 of an ounce, the pickup will not alter the guitar s natural acoustics and easily mounts to the bridge plate with peel-and-stick adhesive. the ibeam active pairs the ibeam with an all-discrete class a endpin preamp with soundhole volume control. the sweet and ultra-quiet audiophile-grade preamp faithfully amplifies every nuance of the pickup. superior sound and performance is built in for easy plug-and-play performance. an auxiliary passive channel is also available for adding a secondary pickup. the ibeam active is also great for direct studio or home recording. comparison tests have demonstrated that the fidelity of this system is a great alternative to studio microphones.

Reviews:
I have heard no after market pickup that more faithfully reproduces the tone of an acoustic guitar. Easy install, comes with jig and extra adhesive strips in case you (or your friend), oh I don't know, drop your guitar on the concrete floor of a Masaai church in Kenya and have to send your guitar back to the states for repair, but want to put the pickup into a cheap yahama for the time being. Baggs even sent me and extra jig and adhesives, in Kenya, to install it. And it makes the Yamaha sound very good, even though it doesn't even really sound that good acoustically! An amazing pickup that I will use as long as they are still in production! Easy to use, easy to install, virtually indestructible, lightweight and invisible. Outstanding quality and design. I bought mine years ago. The current price is very agreeable and worth every penny if you really care about tone, even if you have a mediocre guitar to install it in!prof69strat
After considerable research I had a Baggs iBeam active installed in my Martin D28 – I'd found the D28 recorded well with a mic, but tended to be boomy when mic'd for live sound reinforcement. An experienced Martin guitar tech installed it for me. I've tried it straight into a mixing board and through a Genz-Benz Shen Pro-LT. It sounds oh so very natural, and gets all the gain I need. It really shines for finger-style. It may not be a good choice in loud environments, as it would probably feedback, but in such situations tonal subtlety is usually less important. It was also important that it was both visually unobtrusive and physically non-invasive. That way it can be replaced – the D28 is likely to outlive the useful life of any pickup system. I am picky about sound quality and am quite happy…price was reasonable too.Return2Normal
Sound: Installed it in a Composite Acoustics Legacy/Dreadnought guitar. The sound is very natural. A lot easier to install. Like one other person said here it is real boomy at your regular settings. I had to back the bass off on my amp. It is real microphone sounding as thats probably what it is. Thus it is feedback prone if you are sitting in front of your speakers. It did well in a solo performance. Not sure how well it will do in a setting where volume is needed. But I would just use a different guitar. I do like it a lot. Features: Has a volume wheel you stick inside the sound hole out of sight. Ease of Use: With the installation jig that comes with it you can position the pickup exactly under the saddle perfectly. I really did not want to get into drilling holes under the saddle for the pickup wires, soldering wires, and sanding down the saddle. Installation is a snap. The Wow Factor: A pretty girl came up and said my guitar sounded real nice.

Hands down! The best sound for an acoustic. I was looking for something that I could hear each string with the same balance. And this pickup was perfect! You dont hear more of one string or less of one. Every string has the same volume and tone. And in the clean channel with no eq, it has natural low end!performanceautoglassandtint
This pickup works great. It's easy to install yourself if you're brave. It took me about an hour. I recommend several pieces of tape over the end pin hole before you drill the guitar, this helps prevent chipping the finish, I also recommend access to a good belt sander to get the bridge sanded down just right to compensate for the pickup underneath it. I use this pickup with an LR Baggs ParaDI and I always get a great sound with them.ToddAllenHooper

Reviews:
I play acoustic guitar, mandolin and upright bass on stage and was looking for a professional-quality pre that I could easily plug them all into. Although there are only two inputs, most of the time that's enough. What really amazed me, though, is how little tweaking I have to do when switching between instruments. When I'm going from acoustic guitar to mandolin, all I really have to do is cut out most of the "Low." Otherwise, the tone is excellent for both instruments. I did notice, however, that making sure you've matched the Tonebone to the correct pickup type (magnetic or piezo), makes a HUGE difference. If they aren't matched, the sound is thin and noisy. Still, I mostly use the Tonebone through a Roland AC60 (except with the bass) and could not be more pleased. The "Boost" switch is very handy for solos. My only wish is that it also had compression, reverb, and chorus thrown in. If it did, I'd never need another acoustic box.Doofus1
Exceptionally powerful preamp with flat response and headroom. The Piezo Buffer feature ensures that a passive piezo has enough juice and impedance to sound its best and if you have an active pickup, turning off the PZB ensures ample headroom and adequate impedance. The EQ is super effective and the hi-pass filter is a great feature for pulling rumble out of your guitar and if that doesn't work, there's a 200hz hi-pass and a Notch Filter. No excuse for feedback. I've used mine with two guitars equipped with passive Baggs piezos (LB6 and iBeam) and the LB6 sounded its best with this unit. I think, in the future, I'm going to set up the PZ Pre to blend inputs instead of toggle between guitars. I'm possibly going to add an active mic to my guitar and I think it'll be interesting to experiment with its blending capabilities. This preamp does it all but I won't give it a perfect score as some might prefer separate EQs for separate sources. That said, it's pretty much perfect.Erik
Been doing an acoustic duo gig on a regular basis for a few years now. I was using the Boss A/B 2 which worked great switching between my acoustic guitar and my slide guitar. The problem was that my slide guitar (Fender FR50) didn't have the output that my Guild DC 1E did, and I had to reach for the volume on my guitar to turn up for my solos. Enter the Radial Tone Bone. I spent a day on the floor at the NAMM show specifically to find the right pedal. Unlike everyone else that has an acoustic preamp pedal, Radial made a pedal that you can: a) plug two guitars into with separate volume controls so you can match the outputs of each guitar b) a boost function that you can send to a volume knob, fx loop, or both c) extremely musical eq, it's almost impossible to find a bad sound on this thing. While everyone else had chorus, tap tempo delays and a bunch of other stuff that I would use in an ELECTRIC gig, Radial packed all of the features that I need into one reasonably priced unit. This was also the only acoustic preamp pedal that I found that had two inputs. What professional musician shows up to a gig with one guitar? Answer: The guy that's not gonna have a gig next week. Plugged a Carbon Copy into the loop for my gig last night, and I'm in awe of the tone listening to a playback of the performance. Go get this pedal!!!Dirtbag

This enhances the Graphtech Ghost bridge I installed. Installation was relatively simple since all the wiring is modular and plugs into the pre amp. Minimal soldering was required for the jack and switches. There are a lot of wires so the electronic cavity in my guitar is full but I did not have to enlarge it or modify the cavity.Martin
Absolutely the best acoustic guitar sound from any electric guitar hands down. I've tried and owned aftermarket piezo systems and OEM piezo equipped guitars, the ghost just has that nature sound. It reacts like a "plugged in" acoustic guitar. Soft passages are smooth and even, all the strings have equal output, something the other systems did not have. Step into it and the Ghost just gets dynamic, no piezo "quack" or unnatural thin, sharp distorted tones. Add the fact that string breakage becomes a thing of the past, will pay for its self inside a couple of months. Once you've been able to play a cool acoustic intro, then light into the electric chorus, you'll never go back!Anonymous

Reviews:
They said the MojoTone Quiet Coil NC-1 Acoustic Soundhole Pickup sounds natural. I was very surprised to find that it really sounds great. I do not detect that typical soundhole pickup "electric guitar" sound. Very feedback resistant as well. It looks good for what it is also. I like it so much that I decided on a permanent installation on my 000-15SM. Highly recomended. Would I record with it? Probably not on solo guitar, or maybe mixed with mic signal…but in a group setting, yes
Overall: I play regular acoustic gigs, and for the past 10+ years I've used an LR Baggs M1 Active. It's a great pickup. But recently I've been been playing more lead parts than usual, and I found the Baggs to be a little lacking somehow…just not as responsive and balanced as I'd like. I tried several preamp pedals to compensate, but wasn't really happy. On a whim, I decided to try the Mojotone NC-1. Holy cow! It was night and day difference. I mean a HUGE difference. Compared to the Baggs, the NC-1 just sounds bigger, more realistic, more alive and more balanced. It makes the Baggs sound like a piezo in comparison. There is so much more of the sonic spectrum covered. It's absolutely huge and rich. I'll be buying a second one shortly for my other acoustic.
Overall: I put this in my Martin HD-28 and it sounds very much like my guitar. It's really sensitive and I can hear when I tap the top or pickup coming through which I guess is part of the natural tone. I was worried about feedback but cranked through my Bose L1 it was completely silent with absolutely no feedback. This replaced an M-80 because it was unusable at high volumes with feedback and didn't sound nearly as good. I'm very happy with this purchase!

So nice to have when it was included with my Epiphone Pro-1 Ultra. Tuner is so-so, but everything else is nice quality.Rolfe
Epiphone said this kit was a joke. They said they never use the products in this case. the 2 sets of strings are to light. The string and frett cleaner are very difficult to use and an Epiphone EXPERT told me that the directions on the canister was totally wrong. GIBSON/EPIPHONE expert said that there was not a value in the case' The strap has 2 large metal rings that bang against my new guitar. The EPIPHONE STRAP that is made specifically for my guitar is almost impossible to get on the guitar. I complained to SAM ASH and I have yet to hear back. GIBSON MASTER SET UP TECH SAID he did not agree with this product.cowboycoolwmw
15. K & K Pure Mini Acoustic Guitar Pickup
Product Details:
K&k sound pure mini + pre-phase the pre-phase preamp is a miniature, onboard preamp that provides volume control and a phase switch for pure pickups. it provides truly astonishing sound quality in an extremely small and light-weight package! the addition of the phase switch is one of the most important tools for live sound amplification of any acoustic instrument. your unplugged acoustic guitar resonates in a given phase. the amplified sound needs to match this phase! out of phase sound feeds back, has phase cancellations on some notes, and sounds quacky and tinny overall. phase problems cannot be sufficiantly solveld with eq. any amp/pa/effect-unit/preamp may or may not flip the phase, the only way to be sure that your guitar is in phase with the amp-sound is a phase switch in your signal chain! in our opinion a phase switch is the #1 control for any amplified acoustic instrument. the volume control wheel allows for convenient adjustment during performance. with the pre-phase you are able to plug your acoustic guitar into any amp or pa directly. simply use the eq on the amp or mixer channel to adjust your tone. battery life is about 150 hours with alkaline battery. you can order the pre-phase as an integrated element with any single-source passive pickup, or as an add-on for an existing pickup. simply unscrew the existing endpin jack, remove it from the endpin hole, and plug it into the 1/4" plug of the pre-phase add-on. the 1/4" plug has a self-adhesive fastener, which can be secured inside the guitar. the lightweight thumbwheel control mounts with a peel-and-stick installation to the inner edge of the soundshole. mount the new endpin jack into the endpin hole, and you're done!

As a professional luthier/guitar technician, I have installed several of these amazing transducers, and am continually astounded by their performance, which has a natural warmth and tonal range heretofore unheard in this type of unit. I highly recommend this pickup for ALL acoustic guitars which can accommodate one. It isn't the easiest to install, and will most likely require the help of a tech like myself; but the results are BEYOND EXCELLENT; take my word for it. Additionally, this passive pickup does not require a battery-powered on-board preamp, though it works with outside preamps, EQs and direct boxes equally well (it doesn't need them for sufficient volume). This basic model does not include a volume control, but K&K Audio makes a model which uses one, as well as preamp-equipped versions. Thank you, K&K–ROCK ON!arkgabriel
Just don't bother with the others. These are awesome. I go through either a Helix using the mic preamp, or K&Ks DI box. I've fitted four of these myself (on two Larrivees, a Guo and an Atkin OM37) . They trounce the competition. You will _never_ get the sound of a Neumann KM84 professionally positioned and EQd so don't bother trying and don't stuff your guitar with half a ton of hardware because it _will_ kill the tone. This is is smallest footprint you can get and they just sound ace.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Be aware and be careful when installing the pickups. It is easy to get them to close to the bridge pins.My 6th string head or ball just barely clears the base side pickup. I think I was lucky. The sound of this K&K pickup is excellent. Very balanced and clear.I would give the finger picking or single note flat picking sound 5 stars. Struming sound 4 1/2 stars. Just a nice accurate sound. Works well with the line setting on my QSC K8.2 speaker. It also works very well with the instrument setting. There is just more volume on the instrument setting. Also works great with my Samson small analog mixer. I installed the pickup myself and am very pleased with the results. The recipient guitar was my 1974 Martin D28. Thanks K&K.brhu4225

Just got the Brooklyn acoustic shortly after getting the Oliver mahogany (great guitar by the way). Once again Orangewood provided a well built instrument and it arrived set up perfectly. String height and intonation was spot on and the instrument looks great. Best kept secret in the acoustic world my friends – low to mid-range priced instruments that pull well above their weight. Nice case too!Bob P.
I will not buy one of these bundles. The price is not that attractive, from what I see the quality is budget. You can compare with the Amazon accessories. I will pass on this offer. Let the beginner have a go at this. I would upgrade everything: the strap 6.99, tuner 6.99, capo 4.99, pick holder 1.99 and definitely the cloth 0.99. I like to pick my own plectrums 0.99, with shipping you have $25.00. Not a great deal, but a fair deal for the novice/beginner. Sorry, but there is nothing amazing here.Richard R.
I ordered the Mason Live for a friend of mine WHo is just learning to play, I had been watching the Youtube videos on Orangewood, and looking at the site for a while. Just so you know, I was a professional Bass player/ song writer in LA for a While, before falling on bad times, and most of my gear stolen. I had A very nice Guild acoustic before, (Pre Fender) and an assortment of Basses and Guitars, I also built, and repaired them. So I can speak from experience. I am restarting My life and will be getting this same guitar for myself, when I can. But let me tell you that when It Came And I played it for the first time, I was Shocked at how amazing it played and sounded, this Guitar would have cost $1000.00 or more anywhere else. I used to work at guitar center and know. Right out of the Box this Guitar played fantastic, no set up or anything. You can't say that about Guitar Center. I can't wait till I can get my own Mason Live from Orangewood Guitars, don't ever change, you are wonderful, I will spread the word about it. Thank you Joe CastroJoe C.
18. Gator Guitar Seat And Stand Combo

Reviews:
I had to make major modifications to make this fit me. I'm 5' 8" 140 lbs. Owned mine for 2 years, but had to cut the legs 2 1/2" shorter, move the seat rest down and backwards a few inches, widen the footrest and remove the guitar rest. It's now fine for a 3 hour gig, but was HORRIBLE before!!! Strength and quality of materials, construction and padding are very good, but ergonomics are by some strangely built weirdo, unfortunately!! They need to redesign it to fit an average human!!!!! If they made it fit right, it's worth the cost. If you can't modify it as I have, buy something elseTim
I have been performing an acoustic set for sometime now and I have to lug a stand, stool, the guitar and I take a tablet for a cheat sheet and requests. This cuts most of my lugging in half and the seat is comfortable. I love the fact I can just bring 3 things to my gigs and have the peace of mind that I don't loose track of a stand or the stool. I mean seriously I would never forget my guitar but a guitar stand is easily misplaced or someone confiscates your stool and then the bar now has an extra stool and you left without your stool. These things may sound silly but when being a performing musician and not having people working for you keeping track of your stuff it's easy to have stuff go missing. This item molds two things into one and makes the gig easier and it's comfortable! So all around just a great product.dyerknight
Must have been designed for ppl at least 7 feet tall. Most of you will be cutting 2 or 3 inches off the legs. Most ppls feet do won't reach the floor and the foot rest are not appropriate height. That alone makes it very uncomfortable and renders it almost non usable. The back rest may be risky as it did snap off for at least one person and I found it to feel very unlikely of holding any of my weight. Also the back rest was not lined up when assembled at the factory and is off skew. Looks dumb. Could it be fixed without damaging? Maybe. The guitar rest do not hold an electric guitar on mine without it setting sideways and risking a fall. Can I bend them around to work? Maybe. I don't currently have an acoustic on hand to test. "I barely have a butt but still find this hard to get situated on. Very small seat. Hard and not comfortable. I never believed there could be so many issues with a simple chair. I may cut the legs and basically rebuild the rest of it and keep it, but I have to say it is nowhere near worth the price. If I don't take it back, I will likely use it after repair for a while and then buy a nice office chair later and give this thing away.Chuck

I bought this for a gig on acoustic. The pick-up is for a standard sound hole. I have various pro guitars: Gibson J-200, Martin OM-45 etc. it's great to be able to switch guitars with the pickup. The pickup is braced by dense foam along the sides which is about two and half times thicker than the soundboard. This allows you some adjustment on distance from the strings. I can definitely recommend this pickup to anyone needing to amp a standard acoustic that doesn't have built-in pickups. The product is nicely packaged in a reusable cloth bag with instruction book and a long cable.gtrjoe
I needed a pickup to rotate between three vintage acoustics. I didn't want to do any modifications or permanent installation to these guitars. After some research the Woody XL seemed the logical choice. I was right. Installation was easy, though the virgin neoprene is a little stubborn at first. But it was immediately apparent that the pole pieces at the same height put the sound out of balance. 5 minutes of tweaking pole heights and I got this pickup sounding really good and well balanced. Of the Woody pickup series the XL is the one to buy. It is both noiseless and adjustable. The HC is similar, noiseless, but doesn't have the adjustable pole pieces. The SC is single coil and wasn't even a consideration for me. Though it doesn't have a volume or tone control I wouldn't call that a negative, just missing features. I do find the 14' non detachable cable a bit of a nuisance. If you unplug from your amp or box you have to drag 12' of excess cable along with you. At some point in the future I plan on bobbing the cable to reach just beyond the end pin of my guitars and put a female connector on it to accept standard guitar cables. I think this is the one area that Seymour Duncan might improve the design.Vincent
Too early to know for sure whether this will fulfil my requirements but sounds good so far. I've fitted the Woody XL to a Tanglewood TW170AS with Elixir Nanoweb Light strings, and initially the 2 solid strings (and possibly the third wound B string) were much louder than the wound ones. I think lowering the corresponding cores of the pickup has improved the balance but I need to spend more time exploring this. (And clearly this is only an option if you buy the more expensive XL pickup with adjustable cores.)DJP
