I know. A lot of people are against brass nuts. I bought a 2010 Epihone EB3 that needed some work. I tried several different nuts before I came across this one and even though they all said they would fit an Epiphone EB3 they did not. Not one of them and then I ran across this nut. Changing the plastic piece of junk that was on this bass was the last piece to the puzzle so I ordered it in a last ditch effort to replace the old nut and it arrived in two days. I took the old nut off. I cleaned the nut shelf and then I put this one on with a little Titebond 2 and let it set for a couple of hours. This nut is a smidge short front to back maybe a sixty fourth and it is a bit longer width and I mean just a bit. Nothing to where I felt like I had to do an filing. I put new strings on roughing in the adjustable screws as I went to .022 and then did a complete bass setup from there. Now I have all the necessary nut files but with this all I needed was a small screwdriver and that was that. No fuss. No muss and it sounds great. I'm not going to say that this brass nut gave me sustain that goes on all day or makes everything ring because it isn't that noticeable over say a Tusq nut but it was the easiest nut I have ever installed and setting height at the nut was as easy as it gets. You won't be sorry you tried this nut! It may not be any better than a bone or a Tusq nut but it doesn't get any better than this!cray54dog

I like to be able to do my own set up work on my basses. So I bought a set of nut files from Stewart Macdonald. This nut must be sanded to fit the slot that holds the nut on your bass. You'll also have to work with the string notches, most likely, unless you get lucky, and you're happy with the string heighth at the nut. It isn't rocket science, but it takes a lot of filing, checking the string heighth over and over, to get it right. I'm getting good at this, but I have screwed up a couple nuts over the years, and had to start with a new one. That being said, this nut is really tough. It's got a built in lubricant which helps make tuning easier. Once installed properly it is a significant upgrade to the stock plastic nuts that come with many basses. It transfers sound well. That's a somewhat subtle difference, but it matters. If you aren't willing to get some sandpaper and files, just remember, it doesn't fit your bass right out of the package. As the nut is made from a Teflon derivative, it has a very low friction quotient, therefore less drag on your strings. This helps them ring out a bit more. It's not an extreme difference, but you might notice a bit more overtones, especially when playing clean. It's also nice when tuning, as you won't hear any clicks from the friction, which also means the nut will almost never wear out.
