excellent bass exercise book for the price!!! thank you…taylorjosephmichael
Awesome book! Plenty of excellent exercises…A MUST buy!!ho8489
I've been playing bass for about 17 years now but my first instrument is piano/keys. As a pianist, the transition to bass wasn't difficult from an ear training perspective because I had been playing bass notes on piano all my life. But acquiring proper form and technique was an entirely different story. I didn't realize how ineffective my practice time was until I picked up this book. A lot of my bad habits were habits I carried over from piano. So this book is not only helping my bass technique, but my piano technique as well. A great feature of this book is that it provides stafff notation and tablature. This way those who may be a little intimidated by reading a bass clef can look down at the tab to see their positioning. It's a no-brainer!! Try it! I strongly recommend this book.dvnty

Reviews:
Overall: I wandered into a national Music store chain one day in Oct 2016 and went straight to the used guitars that were hanging on the wall in the used section. I'm always trying to keep an eye out on a good used Music Man electric as I try to collect these fine instruments. That particular day there was pretty slim pickings so I wandered through amps, effects and I ended in the pass guitar section. (I do play bass but usually when I write my own tunes) and this 6 string bass caught my eye. It didn't look cheap so I asked one of the vultures hovering there ( employees, just doing their gig) what he could tell me about this bass. It was pretty light-weight, first impression, so he gave me the run-down on the thing and I asked him if I could put it through the paces that I knew and we plugged it into an Ampeg mini brute what ever it was called and began a 45 minute of exploration where I passed this through an extensive test regarding tone, intonation, ease of reaching pots, tome control, The bass boost, I checked out the spec's which were pretty tight on with what was written. The balance was great, ease of use overall in case I plan to take a 6 string bass to a gig and perform for 3 hours was good weight-wise. I was particularly impressed with the bright tome. I was impressed in the selection of pickups that were available with this instrument. I've been performing on stage since I was 8 years old but mostly on guitar. I understood first you are usually someone and I was tithe whoweEric
Overall: I bought this simply to see if I want to pursue playing a 6 string. Beyond a few brief encounters in music stores, I have not played one and opted to try the tried-and-true Ibanez brand. The price point had me a little scared but this was a great purchase. I don't expect to have this long being I will either continue on the 6 string, or it will be flipped into something else. This is my first Ibanez and I will likely give the higher end SR models a closer look regardless of string count. The Good: Price, the setup was perfectly playable out of the box, tone is decent, weight is good for a 6 string, the fret ends a dressed. The Bad: doesn't balance well (Raw leather strap helped), finish is thin and wood not worth keeping natural (wanted the black model but, out of stock), Odd EQC.j.
I had no trouble setting up this bass. I was able set the intonation perfectly. Even the low strings sustain pitch very well and were easy to tune. I added a slight relief to the neck, because there was a lot of string buzz. After this slight adjustment to the truss rods, there is only a buzz when playing hard on the bottom 3 frets of the lowest string. The action is still low and it is very easy to play (though I do have long fingers). The stock strings are very cheap. As someone else stated, I feel upgrading to higher quality strings may resolve the low B buzz issue. The tone is amazing thanks to the built in EQ bass boost. I found it easier to play harmonics than my other basses. Walking bass lines sound smooth and percussive playing sounds pro. This is my new favorite bass. I can't wait to play it with the band.Michael O

Reviews:
Took this out of the box last week and immediately started practicing for a gig the same week. I have a Hofner , but wanted a solid body for some of the heavier tunes but still a small scale neck. Action and set-up were fine out of the box with no fret buzz. I may put flat-wounds on, but not sure yet. Tone and pick up were good. Mine was a blemish-so I got a discount. Anyway, I used it at the gig with no problems and never switched to the Hofner. Nice bass for the price. Whether it becomes my go to remains to be seen.Mike V
As a broke musician this guitar will keep you rocking. the sound quality is solid and the price out of this world. Get one today or risk getting old, dull, and boring. I bought this guitar and the 6 string version. I like the short neck, it makes playing that much more enjoyable. I am sorry but for this price the overall quality of the guitar you are not going to be dissappointed. As a short scale instument I was concerned about the sound this bass guitar would make. I was not disappointed. Of course Ibanez has made great guitars and this is no exception. As a left handed musician it becomes difficult to find suitable guitars. This guitar and the Mikro 6 string electric are both proud members of my guitar collection. These are not toys and produce great sound. I thank Ibanez for offering this guitar at a reasonable price. There is no excuse not to rock now!!! I couldnt find any flaws in quality on this unit. A truely beautiful guitar. The value is out of this world. You cant find a quality guitar for this price. Scoop it up!!!
After playing this bass guitar I don't want to play my 30" scale Beatle bass anymore much less a 34" scale bass! Lol. It is so easy to play that it makes me wonder why Fender introduced their first bass guitar with a 34" scale. This bass runs circles around any long scale bass guitar. Add to that the super fast neck, low action, P/J pickups, great tone and Ibanez quality construction is just amazing. This is now my main bass guitar after 40 years of longnecks. Ibanez hit it out of the ball park on this one. No doubt other brands will follow. This bass has no flaws of any kind. I tried to find one but couldn't. Great job, great bass!CodSackJackson

Reviews:
Received one from MF and put it through my usual testing: Results were mixed in that the bass itself looks good, seems pretty well made and plays really nicely. Frets were in good shape and seated well. Intonation/ set up were good. The neck is wider than most other basses, but not uncomfortably so. The light weight of the bass is a real plus for me. On the negative side, I did notice some 60 cycle hum from the pickup that got very noticeable once it was plugged into my stage amp. The extremely loud hum was even more annoying when the bass was run through a chorus effect. Not good! But, when I gave it the "gig test", the sound (other than the annoying hum) was very good. Well balanced across the strings and more than enough edge to cut through the drums, guitars, monitors etc. and sat well in the overall mix. Depending on your eq settings, this bass can get deep lows and smooth highs that compliment a slap sound without sounding "clacky". But I had to cut the volume knob to zero after every song because of the loud hum…. So, I sent it back for a replacement and … uh oh…. yep, same problem with the next one. I will try figuring a way to ground the pickup or changing out the pickup to alleviate the problem because otherwise the bass is quite good as is. I would recommend this bass but with reservations because of the pickup problem.Heard the bass
I received this bass guitar as a gift from my family this past Christmas. I am absolutely in love with this guitar. I own many bass guitars, from two Fender Jazzies, to a Squire Jaguar, also two acoustical basses, and a 1976 Rickenbacker 4001. This is just a beautiful playing, and sounding, bass guitar, as well having stunning looks. I am going to keep this bass for the long term. One of the Jazz's is for sale at this very moment… If you want something that has a unique look, and is easy to play and get many different sounds from, this could be your ticket. For the price, are you kidding? Recommended!Ed Conley, Bass Guitarist
After setting my other short scale bass up with piccolo strings, I was looking for a short scale bass to take it's place at gigs, if I wanted to use one that night. Since I already had the Luna 34 inch scale bass, I decided to get this, so I would more or less have a matched set. Glad I did. this is an excellent guitar for the money, with fit and finish very, very, good at this economical price point. If you like it, but are worried if the looks match the quality, have no fear. It's a very nice bass guitar.

First and foremost: this is not a method book. it is precisely what it says it is: 300 progressive sight reading exercises! volume one is comprised of 300 progressive eight-bar exercises that cover the keys of c major, f major, g major, a minor, d minor and e minor. time signatures include 4/4 (common time), 3/4, 2/4, 6/8, and 2/2 (cut time). the remaining key signatures, additional time signatures, tempo markings and dynamics markings will be covered in future volumes. all of the exercises are eight measures long. if one has done any study of formal analysis, they will find that eight measures is a typical ''period'' of music and usually contains two, four-bar phrases (also typical in length). for example, many sonatinas, jazz standards, and pop songs use "32 bar form" (a a b a), "binary form" (a b), and "ternary form" (a b a), with each section often being eight bars. how to use this book: start where the exercises begin and work across the book – from exercise 1, 5, 9, 13 and so on until you get to a point where the music challenges you and then mark your ending point. the next practice, play exercises 2, 6, 10, 14, and so on… the next: 3, 7, 11, 15 and so on, and finally 4, 8, 12, 16, and so on. if you want to work at your "break point" (the point in the book where you can no longer play musically), work down the page instead of across the pages. note: this book is also available in a large print version that for printing purposes had to be divided into two books. if you have poor vision or want this book to be easy to see on an electronic device, you might prefer the large print version. "these books differ from conventional ''methods'' in that technical and theoretical instructions have been omitted, in the belief that these are more appropriately left for the teacher to explain to the student." – bela bartok, mikrokosmos. i whole-heartedly agree with bartok''s sentiment and if music teachers would ask their students what they like least (or hate the most) about typical lessons, it is the method books that win this contest every time. i have completely eliminated method books from my own teaching practice and have much happier and more productive students than ever. while this book is intended to train sight-reading skills, it may also be used by beginners or those new to reading to acquire basic reading skills, but it assumes one either has a teacher or can at least find c on their instrument. it starts at a very basic level (only three notes) and adds a new note, rhythm, or concept every four exercises and thoroughly reinforces them throughout the rest of the book. next, the music''s composition is a slave to its function: the purpose of the books is to train reading skill, and the exercises keep challenging the range that has been established by previous exercises as well as less-than-convenient intervalic skips. they are composed from a ''music-first'' perspective, as opposed to an ''instrument-first'' perspective, and are purposely composed to be difficult to memorize. for example, the first exercises begin on c because they are in the key of c, and then go on to sometimes start and end on different scale degrees of the same key. those familiar with the fundamental modes will likely recognize what they are hearing, but those unfamiliar with these modes will likely be hearing something that sounds a bit different, or odd, until their ears acclimate to these sounds. i see many students go through this process with altered dominants and augmented triads as well. additionally, a 20th-century composition technique (bartok, stravinsky) – serial composition – has also been used on several of the pieces, so if your ears are unfamiliar with this type of music, you might at first be uncomfortable with what you are hearing.
