Used to use the Zakk Wylde lo-string set exclusively, but I tune to B standard and the high strings were too floppy. So I went on the hunt for baritone strings. I've tried all the baritone sets and this is by far the best. The gauges are perfect and elixir strings stay bright & resonant– I've yet to break a string! Everyone told me I couldn't drop tune my gibson les paul studio to drop A. I worked with my buddy with couple different string sets to see what we could get away with. Honestly some of the lighter gauges still worked but I just love the chunky awesome tone of these strings. When you're tuning so low having a big gauge is just so important. Your guitar will stay in tune better and just have a thicker sound. I've been using these strings for over 5 years and I have yet to find a set that is as great as this one.Dillon

I'm a senior citizen jammer, having played guitar ever since Peter, Paul & Mary were young. These guitar strings have been my favorites for many years. Recently I tried some others, simply because I wasn't in an area where these were sold. I noticed the difference right away, and so did my fingers! The Elixirs are recommended for my Taylor GS Mini, and for good reason. I've had them last for years in the past, and now that I'm playing more than ever, I change them quarterly. Fat Sound, my local dealer stack up these exclusively over the 80/20 because they sound so good. They are luthiers I trusted for many years for advise. If you want get add some boldness to your acoustic guitar, try one of these. They are probably the best sounding acoustic guitar strings from Elixir. I tried these briefly on my Taylor DN3. It came equiped with Elixir Nanoweb 80/20. When it was time to stock some replacements, my local dealer had only the Elixir Nanoweb Phosphore Bronze and argued that they sounded better on Taylor guitar because they have warmer tone. It turned out they have a great tone and are very lound and very well projecting, but unfortunately, the tension is much higher then the Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 of the same gauge, and it made my studio guitar sound like a folk guitar. Sincde I did not want to mess with the near prefect factory setup of the DN3, and I prefered the Studio tone of the 80/20 over the Folk tone of the Phosphore Bronze, I decided to go back to the 80/20. But that doesn't mean they are not good strings. They are in fact better sounding in many ways then the 80/20, but I the 80/20 just suites my taste better with this specific Taylor DN3. The Phosphore Bronze strings have huge and clear mids, and a lot of high mid harmonics. Yes they have much more tension then the 80/20, and would probably require neck adjustement when switching from 80/20 to these, but the bold and forward folk/blues tone pays back for that small sacrifice. They have much more harmonics then the 80/20, and the high E string is not too bright. The first thing I noticed with these strings was the fact that the High E string was not lean, but rather fat and well defined. . However, compared with the 80/20, the lows are a bit overwelmed by the bold mids. Which is not bad at all, it's just that my DN3 has a clean and well defined low end with the 80/20, which is not as noticeable with the Phosphore Bronze. My next guitar will probably be more for Folk and will have these strings.Pierre-BJnej
Put these on a bright, shimmering guitar that had old strings maybe a year or more and put on these Elixir Nano supposed upgrade by suggestions at my local guitar center and immediately took them off an put the old strings back on! These are dull, muffled sounding dead resonance producing strings. They SUCKED compared to old di Addario strings? Waste of time and money. It has a very fundamental tone, good for mahogany guitars. But on rosewood guitars, it may kill off the overtones, which may not be right for some people. Recommended on larger guitars rather than small ones. They do last quite a long time, which helps justify the high price to an extent.J A.
recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio

This is the set I use exclusively now. I was always bothered by the G-string on my electric guitars but not my acoustic….the difference, wound G. I have heard it described as that, the G string is a perfect storm of size, frequency and tension so, it causes microphonic problems. The wound G is an almost complete solution to this inherent problem with electric guitars. It probably wouldn't suit you if your style is a lot of monophonic, bendy, blues leads but, almost any other style is fine. And, of course, D'Addario is the choice for quality and price. I have always hated the transition from picking out or making chords from the lower strings to the higher strings. You just hit that "G" string and it is really a noticeable tonal difference especially when recording. The wound "G" in this set eliminates that. I have read that all guitar string sets used to have a wound "G" string and while I understand some theories as to why that was changed to my ears I will never understand why. This set of strings is smooth and makes transitional sweeps across the fret board sound much more even. I find no real loss in tension when bending the "G" string at all as some have theorized as to why many guitarists don't like a wound "G" string. I say it's a theory that doesn't hold for me. Once you stretch these out a bit they hold tune great. They last a good amount of time if you wipe them after you play. The tone is even and full. I tried these out about 4 years ago and I will never go back to an unwound "G" string. These are simply great strings!cray54dog

I wanted to try these on my newest guitar (Martin Jr E) as I had liked them on my previous Takemine F cutaway. They are nice, have a good tone but for some reason, I find the fretboard noise greater on these Bronze strings. I will probably wind going to different strings on this guitar, but I want to try as many as is possible. In the end, I've so far found the Martin light 12 SP strings most suited to this size guitar. In this case, it's probably a mixture of my less than perfect right-hand technique and the composition of the strings. Flat picking, these strings really work well for me.Not as fast Eddie
Guitar strings are a subjective thing, and it comes down to the users preference, so note that my take on these is based on my preference and not an indication of the quality of the product. I bought these because I had heard many good things about Elixirs, but as I suspected the difference between coated/uncoated strings is not a positive one for me. These are labeled as being "slick & fast," but I find that they do just the opposite for me – the coating actually stops my fingers from sliding across the strings. The tone seems OK – I like a "duller" tone, as opposed to that bright, metallic new string sound – these are "warm" as labeled, but I'm still not really impressed with the tone they impart on my Martin D-28. I think I'm better off with the Martin strings that came on it. But again, this is just my preference, and the only way to really tell is to buy a pair and try them out. It's an inexpensive way to experiment with the tone/feel of your guitar.Steven

After having heard good things about these strings I had been looking for some for a while but couldn't find them at a reasonable price, until now. And I have to say, they are even better than I expected. The tone is brilliant – loud and full, with heavy lows and clean, crisp highs just what I wanted. I tend to use a lot of alternate tunings, which can be a bit of a pain with some strings that fall out of tune with every pluck or strum, but not these. They are easy to tune and once there, they stay in tune really well. I've used almost every variety of strings over the years and would usually choose one of the expensive coated types, simply for the longevity, but sometimes that means having to compromise on the sound quality. I've only had these on a week or so, so obviously can't rate the longevity of them, but in terms of every other characteristic I reckon these stand up to any of the more expensive brands, and actually surpass most! Certainly one of the best I've used. I will definitely be buying them again. Would highly recommend.James T.

I have been a Stringjoy customer now for 4-5 years(I think?) and they are the best strings I’ve ever used on my electric guitars! Love the feel of them and the tone. You guys have an amazing thing going. I would love to try them on my resonator guitar(it’s a square-neck). Beard Guitars makes the strings I currently use on it. They’re a little peculiar as far as the gauge goes though. .18-.20-.29W-.36-.45-.56 but I love the tone of that gauge and like Ariel Posen, I like a fight from my strings. I almost ordered a custom set to try when I was ordering my previous sets of electric strings but didn’t see a .29W in bronze. Anyways, I’m very thankful I discovered you guys! I turned to Stringjoy because I wanted a 9-72 8-string set, for which there aren't many options ot there, unless you go for a custom set. I was tempted by the stellar reviews, so I decided to give these a go. Firstly, these are the clearest sounding strings I've ever tried. They're not excessively bright, but their articulation is amazing, which really helps that low F# string ring true. They are almost clear to a fault, because they emphasise every little bit of fret buzz and string rattle, so you have to watch your technique. Secondly, these are the longest lasting uncoated strings I've ever used. After a month of use, they have shown minimal aging. I don't play my 8-string every day, but still, this is impressive. Also, they don't rust, flake or turn black. They just gradually become duller, while still remaining playable. One bit of criticism I have is the tuning stability. These strings seem to need a certain amount of tension to stay in tune. They were fine on my 27" scale 8-string, but when I tried the equivalent set on my 25.5" scale 7-string, bending made them go out of tune very easily. I need to try the 10-60 set and see if it's any better. Overall, I'm very happy with this set for my 8-string, and I have already purchased more. Oh, and one more thing! Normally, whenever I use gauge 72 or higher, I have to partially unwrap the winding to fit the string into its tuning peg. With this set, the lowest string was somehow able to go in as it is. Baritone strings are different depending on the guitar type and uses. My type is a “27 scale and is setup for a more down tuned sound rather than a classic”spaghetti western”baritone. These strings make my baritone play closer to a regular electric guitar without the extra slack from down tuning. Good string life to them as well!

I traded for an Epiphone Dot. It put my usual gauge of string on it and it was awful. So I ordered a set, put them on my guitar, and voila, everything is great. This is the set I use exclusively now. I was always bothered by the G-string on my electric guitars but not my acoustic….the difference, wound G. I have heard it described as that, the G string is a perfect storm of size, frequency and tension so, it causes microphonic problems. The wound G is an almost complete solution to this inherent problem with electric guitars. It probably wouldn't suit you if your style is a lot of monophonic, bendy, blues leads but, almost any other style is fine. And, of course, D'Addario is the choice for quality and price. I have always hated the transition from picking out or making chords from the lower strings to the higher strings. You just hit that "G" string and it is really a noticeable tonal difference especially when recording. The wound "G" in this set eliminates that. I have read that all guitar string sets used to have a wound "G" string and while I understand some theories as to why that was changed to my ears I will never understand why. This set of strings is smooth and makes transitional sweeps across the fret board sound much more even. I find no real loss in tension when bending the "G" string at all as some have theorized as to why many guitarists don't like a wound "G" string. I say it's a theory that doesn't hold for me. Once you stretch these out a bit they hold tune great. They last a good amount of time if you wipe them after you play. The tone is even and full. I tried these out about 4 years ago and I will never go back to an unwound "G" string. These are simply great strings!cray54dog

I've been using black beauties for years now. Originally bought them for the look they gave me on my black Tele. They really lasted a long time. And they produced good tone on the instrument. Of course some the coating wore off at the picking area after a few hours of use. Everyone expects that. But you could only tell if you get real close. the fingerboard area stays coated real well. And keeps that slick feel. I don't notice any sound degradation, and the intonation remains constant. And hey Kids, a black majic marker fixes the chipped coating! Just kidding ! I really do find that these strings last a long time and I bend them all over the frets. I constantly buy these.J W GUITARS
Overall: I'm really not that tough to please but these strings are a disappointment to me. I do like the black color, BUT – and I kid you not! – within ONE minute of playing the black was already coming off my high E string and I was playing with my fingers, not a pick! I saw what looked like a piece of fuzz on the string so I started wiping it off, only to realize it's the black color coming off further and further. Within five minutes I had about an inch and a half of bare string showing. It comes off so easy it seems lit it's just spray paint. I understand it won't last forever, but one minute?? Come on. The other thing I don't like about these strings is they have an uneven plastic type feel to them. It's not horrible, but they don't feel like "regular" strings. Other than that they sound OK, nothing special, so I'm definitely not buying these again.Tim
These look awesome and have a very smooth nylon feel. They don't sound bad at all. Maybe a little different I'm sure. They will shed the coating eventually, especially if u use a custom plectrum/pick made of metal or some other highly dense material. Metal will remove the coating immediately! The coating may also slow down the corrosion process. They are holding up good so far. I like these strings. I have a set of white strings somewhere. Those seem hard to find.jcfvintage

I Love Rhythm and blues, jazz and swing. But I also like folk music and great C&W riff lines. To be honest, I have only been using these strings for about three weeks but I like them so much that I plan to use them on most of my instruments. So far, In my opinion, these strings are clean and crisp and they have a very satisfying tone even at higher volumes; and, at the present time, they appear to be pretty flex-able and easy on the fingers. I have a used 2005 hollowbody Cort Yorktown. I tried D'Addario ECG23 (10-48 "chromes" flatwounds). They were nice, but for this guitar, they were too bright, at least on the treble strings. I put on these DR flatwounds (11-48) and immediately heard the difference. The tone was mellower, including (especially!) on the treble strings. Don't ask me why. After all, the high E is just .001 inch heavier, but the consistent softened jazz sound was there, from low end to high end. Guitars differ in variables (woods, pickups, etc), so all I can say is that for my guitar (laminate maple back and sides, laminate spruce top and original humbuckers), DR 11-48 flatwounds did the trick. Will stick with these from now on. (By the way, both brands have a wound 3rd string, but DR's is 22 instead of 20. Go figure!) At one point, I was even thinking of replacing the neck pickup. I have tried a multitude of various strings. These DR strings are great. I have the Multi color; Yellow; Orange; Green and the Black Beauty ones. They perform great on my Gibsons; Epiphones and Ovation guitars. I use them on acoustic; acoustic electric and semi-solid guitars – all with equal positive results.Mr B t

Not only does this look bad but, more importantly, seriously diminishes playability. My fingers then slide over rough, flaking strings. Ouch! Cute idea…terrible execution! Cute idea. Looks nice….(before playing). I strung up my guitar and in less than 15 minutes of moderate playing (I estimate about 30% of) the coating of the unwound strings flaked off onto my guitar. Not only does this look bad but, more importantly, seriously diminishes playability. My fingers then slide over rough, flaking strings. Ouch! Value, with any product, is relative to quality. At $12 a set the value is not good. Even if they were $2 a set it would not be a good value because of the poor quality. I have purchased other string sets for as low as $4 that were much better.
These are excellent strings. I bought them for my son, who loves them. They stay in tune well. He likes their feel, they feel like the Elixir strings he used before. They seem to last well, he's had then on his Schecter about 3 weeks and they feel and look good and hold their tuning well. And did I mention they look really good under black light?Richard
