These are the slickest, most comfortable strings. I bought them to put on a PRS Angelus SE and be able to do those David Gilmore bends on an acoustic. For that, they are awesome. Bendiest, easy to slide acoustic strings I have ever tried. Great for all those single note lead lines. The bass strings are also heavy enough to still give some oomph. The problem is when you come out of those lead lines to do any rhythmic strumming-the tone is bright, brash, tinny and very G forward. I want to like these strings for their play-ability and keep trying them to see if they'll break in, but always leave disappointed. For reference, my PRS is already a little brighter in a Taylor sort of way than my other guitars. I usually play Santa Cruz Low Tension Parabolics on my Santa Cruz OM, and Martin Life Span on my Martin 0015. The brashness is muted a little if amplified.Jonah
Bought these as replacements on my Taylor guitar. I was surprised at the quality of the strings, the incredible tone and that they didn't stretch A LOT when new (meaning I didn't have to retune after every song…I let the rest for about 4 hours and tune them up before performing). When stringing up the 4th string (D) it broke before reaching correct pitch, but a pleasant phone call resolved that issue with replacement set sent out ASAP (By the way, in "E" tuning a 'regular tension' classical string of .032" (normally an "A" or 5th string put on the 4th position) worked well until I got the replacement sets- The 'Original "A" tuning strings were all tied to the ball differently than the "E" tuning sets- not sure that matters but could confuse some- I just did it like the package with double overhand knot on the trebles (with a little heat from a lighter to tighten the knot fully- CAREFULLY! The "E" set basses has the ball integral to the string metal- much like other electric or acoustic steel strings, but they 'make you tie the balls' to the ends of the trebles- no biggie and easier than tying 'regular classical' strings at the bridge. I like the sound and certainly makes the guitar play nicer to my ears and less like a 'ukulele' that the "A" tuning makes ALL the rest sound like- Nothing terrible about that in itself, but I prefer my 'guitars' to sound like guitars (I use an iRig mike on my acoustics and you can get GREAT SOUNDS out of this little guitar with the "E" tuning IMO-YMMV!Manoteal

They are as good on my Seagull S6 as the Martin's ever were and easier to play (I finger pick mostly) and the combination of the full sound of the S6 and the Ernie Ball Earthwoods is a perfect combination. I've had them on for three weeks already and play sever hours every day and they still sound bright and full of tone. I put the other set on my Yamaha just recently and they sound as good as the Martins ever did. Whether they will remain crisp remains to be seen (each guitar is different). I've been using these strings for years. The 4 wound strings last at least twice as long as other un-coated strings I've used. The 1st and 2nd strings are not coated so I buy single strings to replace these as needed without replacing the whole step. Also, I replaced my strings a couple of weeks ago and wiped the 1st and 2nd strings with a lubricant called Tuf-Glide by Sentry Solutions for protection against corrosion from oils from my fingers. This stuff is designed for guns, knives, etc. Time will tell if it makes my guitar strings last longer. Anyway, buy these strings. I think you will like them.Jack-JGUBF
These strings are not cheap but still very good value. I've always liked the tonality of D'Addario strings and used them for many years. The EXP15s have the same tonality but last much, much longer. As someone who does not enjoy the string changing rigmarole, that's a bonus in itself. I am an amateur player and have always used Elexir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb strings, different gauges, on my 6 string acoustics in the past. However, I recently bought a second hand Luna travel guitar which needed a string change, and I looked up which strings it was likely to have come with from the factory – and the consensus was it was probably Daddario’s previous version of these. I decided to try this new version as they were very well reviewed online by professionals. To quote, and I would agree with all of it – rich and balanced, don’t need breaking in, coated but don’t sound it, bend like electric and good projection. I have used various strings on my old Guild over the years and have generally been satisfied…until now. I had ordered another Martin string set (Tommy's Choice) that worked well on my guitar but the vendor was perpetually out of stock so I agreed to receive these Eric Clapton light gauge strings instead. What a mistake. These strings ruined the sound of the guitar. Contrary to some other reviews,there is no warmth to these strings on my guitar, only an over-the-top brightness. The strings are also noisy and unforgiving…even the slightest mis-fretting results in buzzing. These are absolutely the worst strings I have ever put on a guitar and they'll be coming off as soon as I receive my Tommy's Choice strings from a different vendor. Until then, I am avoiding my go-to Guild guitar as there's no joy in playing it with these strings.Old player
Sound: I think they sound really well. Have a nice ping to the sounds. Work well add some Bass to the sound of my Martin OM1-GT. Features: No Features. I have used Extra Slinkys and Cobalt Slinkys on my solid bodies for years and have been mighty impressed with them so I thought I would try the Acoustic version. They lived up to my expectations, bright and clear sounding, easy on the fingers and comfortable to play. They seem to eliminate the extra finger force needed when playing an acoustic compared to a solid body. The strings are very light but do not sound tinny or weak giving a full bodied tone. For $10 a set they are incredible value for money.

One of my new favorite strings to play on my Takamine NP-17C model. These strings are deep and rich and stay in tune extremely nice and can be de-tuned and hold well no matter how much you throw at them. They stay clean and nice and have a richer tone spectrum than my all time Martin strings that I have played for 40 years. I am a huge Dean Markley fan and user. I won't go so far as to say that the string was faulty, although I supposes it's possible. Luckily, I had a spare, but it's always good to have an extra high E string in the guitar case anyway. (I've never had a problem with any SJs breaking from playing.) One very cool thing about this company is they will sell individual strings. Stringjoys are my new go-to strings for all my instruments and I've really enjoyed them. Great sound, great sting-life. They sound good but seemed a bit stiff compared to some of the coated acoustics (Daddario EXP) that I normally play. I've been on the lookout for some thicker 12-string sets (not for down-tuning, but just so the thing puts up a bit more fight), and they're getting hard to find (most companies max out at .10's). So I was glad to stumble across these, and the price point seemed right; however, while bringing them up to tension and making requisite truss-rod adjustments, two of the new strings [high A .22w and high G .10] popped, leaving me to go shopping the next day for individual strings. Ernie Ball has long been my go-to for electric strings, and I can't say this experience rules them out for me, but I was disappointed. Will definitely be trying Martin strings the next time my 12 needs changing, as they offer even thicker strings and come recommended from several friends I've talked to since. On a final note, if you haven't tried using sets where the high A is wrapped, I'd recommend you do so; the high A has always been one of the main sources of 12-string tuning frustrations in my experience (if it sounds in tune open, it sounds off when fretted & vice versa), and having it wrapped seemed to clear a lot of that up.czdolphy

I was excited to try out the Blue Steel acoustic guitar strings. I got them in the mail and strung up my guitar with much anticipation. They were good at first, but after only about 20 minutes, my hands smelled like cheap metal, and the tone had already dulled. These strings made my high quality guitar sound like a tinny, cheap First Act Guitar. I would not recommend these strings to anyone. However, I would highly recommended Elixer nanowebs or polywebs. Played guitar for 9 years. Have always picked and fretted with excessive force. My hands sweat and ruin strings. I've tried many strings, Elixrs were the best but too expensive, DR, D'addario, Ernie Ball, RotoSound….nothing felt like home. Somebody told me about these strings, I bought two packs of 12s and fell in love. Unlike the coated strings (Elixr) these are super-cooled so that the molecules lock together tighter. They stay in tune better than any strings I've played. These strings can take a beating. The tone is great for 4 or 5 weeks and it still sounds decent 2-3 months later. I've been using these strings for years. I love a wound 3rd string. They last up to a month for me where other brands only lasted a week tops. I just bought a new Les Paul with a Bigsby. It came with 9s on it and the intonation was way off. I had a set of 9s by EB and put them on to see what would happen. After a couple of days I could see it wasn't going to work out so I replaced them with a set of these 11s and the guitar locked right in tune.OleJazzer

I have been changing all my acoustic instruments, especially guitars and mandolins over to these strings. I still occasionally like the brassyness (really bronziness) of phosphor bronze but actually prefer the tone of NB strings. I mostly play vintage instruments and these bring out the best in them. You basically get more of the tone of the woodiness of the guitar or mandolin vs. the tone of the strings. Hard to describe. They are excellent for archtop guitars.Jim
I tried these Balanced Tension Nickel Bronze strings on my Gibson J-15. I figured that they would give me a little more volume and I was very disappointed. Not only was there no additional volume, but they sounded very muddy. I haven't given up on the idea of balanced tension, but these aren't the ones for this guitar. OK, In 37+ years of playing I have used all kinds of strings. Coated, Non-Coated, Frozen, Plain, Phosphor Bronze, silver colored, gold colored, nickel plated, even tried "retro" strings etc. The coated strings to me usually sound dead out of the box, or they are 3x the cost but don't last anywhere near long enough to justify the price. I have discovered it's mainly hype. I don't deny there is a coating on the strings but that is makes a HUGE difference…yeah not so much. The longest running type of string I have used were Phosphor Bronze. But with my guitar mellowing out there is more bass. The "Retro" strings were really not bad for tweaking the bass but longevity was lacking and the company YEARS ago made them in PA are now making them in Mexico. So I tried a set of D'Addario Nickel Bronze in Custom Light and they are FANTASTIC!!! The sound quality is over the top. Mids come alive, highs are clear but not overpowering, and the lows are clean, not muddy, bright but not jangley. My daughter says it almost sounds like a 12 string…LOL. They are fantastic and my Martin has NEVER sounded better. I play daily and have had these on for over a month and still not ready to change. I'll push the first few sets to the max just to see how far they CAN go. My guess is two months…we'll see. Disclaimer: I wipe down my guitar and strings after each time I play them. I'll also use dunlop string conditioner on them too. So that may help as well. Bottom Line – – If you are wondering about these strings…STOP WONDERING AND BUY THEM. Used trad phospher bronze strings initially. Sound was too bright and brash on my full mahogany guitar. Tried Martin Retro next- hated those. Couldn't make it a week with the set. Had to take 'em off. Tone was just lifeless. I expected these Nickel Bronze to be the same experience, but gave them a try and was pleasantly surprised – loved them! With standard phosphor bronze the guitar had a braying tinny cartoon voice, by comparison. With the NB strings all the warm tone I hoped the mahogany would be able to convey immediately appeared and began to bloom. Its like I'm finally truly hearing the way the instrument was made to sound. You will sacrifice a bit of volume, not alot- and its worth it believe me for the sound you will achieve. I'm mostly a hybrid picker- true fingerstyle players will get even more satisfaction I would expect. Again, this is on a solid top all mahogany guitar. I cannot say how these may sound on a spruce or cedar top. Try them and let us know!Strumbum
I am beginner guitarist and at the start Nickel Bronze thought a little bit harder to my fingers than other 2 strings I tried: D'addario 80/20 BRONZE (EJ11) and PHOSPHOR BRONZE (EJ16). You also need to strum harder. But sound I really like. Also Nickel Bronze is 2x expensive than 80/20 BRONZE (EJ11). Next time I think I go with 80/20 BRONZE (EJ11), because they are 2x cheaper and not so hard and have a deeper tone. But I think is worth to try. If you have a hard fingers and you like to strum hard, I think you can really like them. If you like warmer tone, I think PHOSPHOR BRONZE (EJ16) is better choice.djdeivs

Bought a new guitar and these were the original strings. Martin Guitars also recommended the strings and I wanted to capture the original sound when purchased. The end result is the guitar sounds exactly as it did in the shop. They sound great and are long lasting, maintaining a constant tonal quality. When I changed the strings there was no sign of degradation or pitting. To be fair, I only changed the strings because I thought they'd been on too long rather than any deterioration in sound. The new LifeSpan 2.0 treatment does not protect the plain steel strings from tarnishing under acidic fretting fingers. Attached photos show tarnishing that occurred after three hours of use. I had the exact same thing occur after using sets of Martin's untreated strings. Martin's previous MSP7600 LifeSpan strings would not tarnish after playing them over a month. Bought a new used guitar that needed a new set of strings on it, and this price really drew me in. The strings are a nice golden color and look amazing on my guitar. The tone is superb. The only downside is these strings took several days of playing before I was not straining to push them down on the frets. This may be due to the fact that I also play a nylon-string guitar, but my GHS steel strings never felt this difficult to me. After a few days, though, I was mostly comfortable playing them. Chords are a bit hard to form, but I trust my hands will adjust soon enough. One more really cool thing I've noticed. As a percussive fingerstyle player, I use a lot of alternate tunings and change between them regularly. Once the strings have stretched, they will stay in any tuning for me. So today I'm in standard, in three days I'm in Open G, and the guitar doesn't try to go back to the previous tuning. That is a really handy feature. Overall, big thumbs up for these strings.
