I tried these strings on copy of an ES-335 style guitar. The pickups are not as alive as I would like. The strings appeared to add energy to the pickup and resonate well. I enjoyed the new sounds and power when playing. I was able to bend the strings to my heart's content and pretend that I was a blues master. Do not be afraid to give these strings a go.Ed

The best sounding and feeling strings I have ever used. Most of my guitars have vintage powered pickups and these strings are extremely clear sounding. They sound great on my Strats and Teles. They sound fantastic on my '61 RI SG and LTD PB 500 (Duncan Alnico II pickups). They still have the "slinky" feel of regular Ernie Ball strings. They seem to last a little longer too. If you are a bedroom player, you will like them. If you are a gigging player you will love them. I have always used EB strings, these are now the only strings I use.ShaneC

These are great strings. The feel like Slinkys to me, but are a little more slippery. Sustain is fantastic. I wore out a set of DR DDT (11 bottom) so, I put them on my Ibanez GRG121. This guitar has dinky weak humbuckers, but a pinch holds way longer with the strings…to the point that it feels more like upgrading the pickups. Maybe it's placebo, but I could swear they have a tighter swing too. I went thinner than the DDTs (obviously) putting these on and some of the first moment fret butt I got above fret 15 went away. Maybe it's just bc their thinner, but watching them I think they swing less. Try these strings… *Note: They leave a nasty bitter on your fingers.Steve

I am a drummer. My son needed strings. He took a few lessons years ago, and recently decided to try again. Guitar needed strings. I put on a full set and tuned it up. Seem to be functional. First time using these. I really like them. I immediately noticed how much smoother they feel compared to the previous brand I started out using. I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve

The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!Josh

I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. Between the tuning stability, the tension, the reliability, the playability and the string life, you cannot go wrong with these for baritone tunings!Daniel

I bought these on a whim one day. I can't explain just how great these strings really are. They have a unique voicing that really compliments my guitar's natural tone. I have used many, MANY brands of strings, as well as many gauges, but these strings are by far my favorites to date. For being relatively new to the string-making game, Dunlop nailed it with these. Fantastic tone, strong, long-lasting, and overall great feel. I switched to these after spending too much time and money on the DR High Voltage Dimebag Darrell set. I bought these Super Brights thinking they were Nickels, but i thought I'd give these Steel strings a chance. I put them on my Jazz bass and i was very surprised at how smooth they feel. Usually, Steel strings are too abrasive for me and rip my fingers up. these are slightly rougher than the nickels i usually use but no rougher than a set of standard nickel Rotosounds. Theyre also quite low tension which i prefer so i can perform bends with ease on any string. Soundwise, theyre great!! Plenty of low end warmth and top end brightness that isn't too zingy. A very balanced volume and clarity across each string. I got a lot of compliments on how clear my bass sounded after my last gig. Normally I play D'addario 10's but I decided to give these strings a try during my most recent guitar set up at Sam Ash. These give the perfect amount of slack on the higher strings allowing for a bright, punchy tone and huge bends. This is balanced out by the heavier bottom 3 strings which add the extra tension making them great for drop D or other alternate tunings and an excellent twang for finger or hybrid picking.Ezra

Been using Ernie Ball 8-38's, 9-42's, 10-46's for a very long time and I have found that each has their strengths. [10-46} : 46-36-26 strings are great for driving thick rhythm. {9-42} : 11-16 strings are great for solid melody and rhythm. {8-38 : 8-11 strings are great for bending pedal steel licks to radical blues-rock bends. The best the three worlds = 8-11-16-26-36-46. From an economical stand point, the Hybrid Slinky with an .008 is a pretty affordable and fun experience. I've spent a lot of money on strings over the years and during my developmental and experimental phases I've come to enjoy this combination. The 10-46 forced me to be a better rhythm player with blue-jazz origins. The 9-42 turned me on to rock. The 8-38 taught me to create wicked country bends with speed. I feel now after 30 yrs or so of playing I've decided to take what I like from each set and make it my own. I'll call it, "Three Of A Kind"Drug Store Cowboy

I've been playing for 38 years. I wasn't aware of generic strings in the old days so I've used all the big names, Ernie Ball, GHS, D'addario and to me these are pretty good strings. I've been using them for 8 or 9 years now. The main thing I will say about them is that they mellow out quickly, in other words the new string brightness goes away pretty fast. For me, this is good. I do not like that jangle brightness of new strings. Other than that I can't hear or feel a difference from the major brands. I have recommended them to friends who also liked them. We were in a cover band together and had to restring many guitars fairly often because they would get sweat all over and not wiped down. So these were economical.Quinn

I bought a whole bunch of these in different sizes as it is a good way to experiment with using different sized strings. Some strings last a while but many pop almost immediately right at the ball. Once I had three in a row pop, each one the first time I struck the string with the pick. Enough of the strings work well enough to allow me to accomplish what i wanted but it is frustrating and I will be glad when they run out. But whatever at this price I don't really care.b

I ordered a huge bulk back in 2010, the 10 thru 46 guages set. They hold tune well and have good tone. After each time I practice or gig, I wipe down the strings with 3 in 1 oil and they last. Some people complain that the ball ends break off. But I only use these strings on my Floyd Rose equiped guitars, so I use the ball end wrapped through the posts of my tuning keys, then lock the clamp down. I use stainless steel picks and stacatto pick ( like Yngwie Malmsteen), bend 2 whole steps and pull up hard on the tremolo bar …..and they stay in perfect tune. I've tried many string brands out there and have come back to Ernie Ball in the last couple of years. They sound and feel great, stay in tune (assuming you have a guitar that stays in tune), and are durable (no strings last forever). You can simply depend on them.Frank

I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH). My guitar is always in Drop-C tuning. Since about a year ago, I had ran Dunlop Heavy Core -Heavy- 10's, which served their purpose, until I replaced my main guitar with one that has dual Passive Humbuckers. The Dunlop HC-10's had lost their tone with this setup so I switched over to D'Addario XL 12/60, which were better, but I still was not satisfied. Finally I decided to try out these Dunlop HC Heaviest 12/54. I wasn't expecting anything special… I put the new set on, stretched them out, then tuned them. Right off the bat I was surprised when the high C string was able to reach perfect tuning, which is virtually unheard of. I switched on my amp and rig and played a few notes… at this time my jaw dropped! The tone was INCREDIBLE!! Everything sounded better instantly. The 'chugs' played on the upper area of the neck, which normally sound muffled because of the low frequencies, sounded crisp and clear. They were resonating at a level of perfection that I've never experienced. Shredding, tapping, pinch harmonics, tapped harmonics, leads, palm mutes, bends, vibrato's, sweeps, hammer on's and pull off's all sounded better than anything I have ever gotten out of a guitar before – and this includes a PRS and a high end BC Rich. After about 30 hours, they still are holding their tone, sustain and bright sound. With my locking tuners, they virtually never come out of tune no matter how hard I play them. This is my first foray into the world of heavy-gauge strings. Could there be better strings out there? Absolutely. Will I be buying any of them any time soon? No. Even as hard as I play I've yet to break one in 3 weeks, 2 nights of which were gigs in a blues band. All the guys were wondering what was so different, why did I sound so much better than before. The answer was simple… It's these Dunlop Heavy Core Strings (Heaviest Gauge) Dunlop Heavy Core Strings Heaviest Gauge For the 20 years that I have been playing guitar, I've went from 10s to 9s to 11s to 8s back to 11s, never daring venture past the 11s. Why? That's where Stevie played. On the other side of the 11s. This might make no sense but my subconscious thoughts were "If SRV (and many other guitar greats/gods) played on 12s, 13s, sometimes even higher, then I have no business there; I can't do it, right?" Never have I been more wrong. For a while now I've been looking to break the sound barrier on my guitar utilizing a myriad of devices from insane picks/materials to pickups/amps/effects. I saw these on MusiciansFriend and thought well hell, let's give it a shot. There's no time like the present to try something new. Strung these babies on my '03 Godin Flat Five X, and tried something else new… drop-tuning to Eb. Same amp–'72 Super Reverb Silverface w/ Blackface mod. Same Guitar. Same fingers, same pick. But this tone is from another planet. Things are vibrating in my room here that never vibrated before. The tone is HUGE. Get some. Do it. Give your fingers a little bit to adjust and don't back down. After buying these strings and slapping them on my Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow, I can honestly say that the best thing I have ever did to improve my guitar's tone was put higher gauge strings on it. Maybe semi-hollows just resonate better with them, not sure. The round 3rd string is pretty clutch – the strings I used to put on would have a very noisy, tinny-sounding 3rd string and having a wound one like this has completely solved that issue. My Artcore would just sound too twangy in general with lighter strings on it, too – and having heavier gauge strings improved that issue by leaps and bounds. I'm not exactly an expert in tone so I can't argue about the finer points of the sound these strings make – but my bottom line is, they help me to better access the range of sounds that I want from my instrument, and that's what matters. Definitely 5 stars for tone. I have one complaint though: I am an abusive bender, as it were. When I bend the strings, I push their limits pretty friggin hard, and these particular strings will only take so much. Had a string break on me yesterday while I was bending really hard but I had another set hanging around so it was all good. My lighter gauge strings from before would withstand this abuse beautifully – but just keep in mind that when you move up to thicker strings, you're making a trade-off: the thicker strings will wear out and break more quickly if you push them too hard and bend them abusively like I do. On the subject of bending, also: with the wound 3rd string, if you want to bend it, you need to bend it a lot further to get the interval that you want, so just be prepared for that. All in all however, I am VERY happy with these strings. I'll have to take it easy on the bending a little bit, but for me that's more than a worthy trade-off for strings that really make my baby sing like she should. I can't necessarily speak for how these would sound on other guitars because I've never heard what they sound like on others, but I would MOST DEFINITELY recommend them for anyone playing a hollow or semi-hollow guitar. These strings helped with tuning stability issues I was having with an (Indonesian, fat neck) Epiphone 335 Dot, which I love but the unwound G string was going out of tune. Swapped out the bridge (Guitar Fetish–nice choice and half the price of TonePro) and the nut (Graph Tech), which also helped. I retained the lower three strings from the 'Heavy Bottom" set I had on it already. The top 3 strings sound great, but I've only had 'em on for a few days. I also put these on another 335-style guitar, but the bottom 3 strings felt just a bit flimsy switching back and forth with the Epi, not surprisingly. They sound good, nice and acoustically rich.Doc

These new M-steel strings are not worth the price. I have been using EB Cobalts for the last year and now have them on all 12 of my electric guitars. Because I have been impressed by Ernie Ball's recent innovations in string making I thought I would give these M-steels a try. First impression is that they do not have the nice silky feel on the fretboard that the Cobalts do. The one thing I can say about the M-steels is they are loud acoustically which means they are also loud going through the pickups and on to your amp. I found this to be a bad thing because my rig is already set up for the cobalts strings output and these were actually so loud that they were overdriveing the front end of my amp and creating a extra unwanted highend fizziness that sounded terrible. Besides this the M-steels break easily, you heard it here first. Specifically the wound strings are prone to breakage because they have a smaller core wire and extra large windings. My guitar has locking tuners and 3 of the 6 strings snapped off at the peg when I tuned to pitch. The wound low E string and D strings did this and the non-would G string also snapped at the peg. I though the non-wound M-steel were supposed to be ultra strong? I have never had this problem with any other string type. I was using a set of M-steel 10-52 btw so they are pretty thick to begin with and should never have this kind of breakage problem. As for how long they last I wouldn't know because I was so mad at myself for paying for this M-steel gimmick that I went and ordered myself another set of cobalts and threw the M-steels in the trash. If you use locking tuners and go back and forth from standard to drop D for example, the wrapped strings can't manage that too many times before it breaks. I suggest wrapping the low E string around the post like you do with normal tuning posts. I haven't tried this yet, but I will with my next set, hopefully I can get some extra life out of them. I do have an Evertune bridge, so I'm not worried about the tuning instability associated with wrapping the string around the post. Besides the weakness issues, I flat out love the slinky, less weighted feel and tone of the three coiled strings. I don't notice this difference much on the higher strings. I would rate these 5, if they fix the breakage issue that happen with locking tuners and tuning down to D. I'm not one to lock my tuners using a Herculean effort either, they're just prone to breaking. I would say they'll be completely fine if you just set it and forget it.Justin

I build guitars and buy these for setups period. I have tried to use these on one occasion just for kicks but found the tension all wrong. Not so much on the wound strings as the unwound upper strings. I found the tension and feel really poor. They seemed to be ridiculous to bend and if you managed that they felt like they were about ready to snap. I did not like the brittle tone either. The feel of these is just all wrong but they are cheap and fine to use for building but my guitars would never go out with these!Thump54

Musicians Gear strings are perfect for any player. If you get your strings for free because of an endorsement deal, you can claim a better value. I don't have that option = I pay for my strings. I change strings about once a month, sometimes more often, because NOTHING sounds as good as a new set of strings. But I can't afford big coins to keep fresh strings on them. These MGs are very affordable, they sound great, they play well, they are consistent, and I am very happy when I play with new strings. The new packaging helps stop rust and corrosion, so I usually buy in boxes of 10, just so I have some on hand.guitarpicker7

I use these strings all the time. Dont believe all the nonsense you read- they sound good, they last well and they are affordable. If you dont need to pay double or triple for hype, buy these strings. The best sounding strings in the world are new strings. Buy a stack of these and change them whenever you need to. The more you play, the more often you will need to change them. Even a cheap guitar will sound good with new strings. And the most expensive guitar will sound bad with old strings. I used to have to buy the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom and Power Slinky set in order to get the low and high strings that I preferred but ever since Ernie Ball came out with this set I don't have to. It's my go to set of strings for standard because I like tight strings that I can chug or shred on. Plus they last forever. Get these!Rollin

The biggest selling point for Super Slinky strings is their magnificent tone. There really aren't any strings that sound better than these for hard rock. But as others have noted, they are sometimes prone to premature breakage of the unwound strings at the ball end. It you use a locking tremolo like a Floyd Rose, then this isn't an issue, as you'll be cutting off the ball ends anyway. But for everyone else, he's a trick that I (and many other players) have been using for Super Slinky's ever since the 80's. Just grab your soldering iron and solder the string down where it's twisted around the ball. Just be sure that the twisted part is nicely coated with solder and you shouldn't have any more problems with early breakage. Don't worry, it won't mess up their tone of anything like that… not if you do it right. Try it and see!Rasterburn

These are really nice! They deliver very warm and round tones when playing clean; however, when using overdrive or distortion, the tone becomes pretty monstrous! Because of their thickness, understand they're not made for easy bends and jazzy licks. Additionally, if your guitar is set-up for 9's, or even 10's, you'll need to make slight adjustments in your action, especially if you're using a trem.Shane S.

Overall: Got a couple sets of the extra light (D930) strings put one of the sets on my Gretsch G5425. Easy on, tunes well and after stretching the strings it holds tune very well. The bass is strong and no too overpowering and the treble was bright without being tinny. The middle was a little underwhelming at times, but I'm not sure if it was the strings or the amp I was using. When I changed amps there were no issues. I would definitely use these again. Next up will be trying a set out on my Les Paul, after I burn up the strings on it.Steve

I find these are a great alternative. Obviously they will go dead a little quicker, than other brands. Though you can't complain, they are half the price! If I had to compare, I would say they are very similar to Dean Markley strings. Depending on what your opinion on them is. They work well, I have used about 6 sets so far, and the quality is 100% the same…They typically last me about 2 months. I usually use D'Addario, and I've killed those in 3 months…sometimes i can squeeze 4 months out of them. I really like Darco's. I was hesitant at first due to the price, however I was being biased. If you have really sweaty hands and kill strings fast, buy these strings. Or if you are selling a guitar, and need to slap a fresh set on, these are a great solution. Also if you have multiple guitars, and use different gauges like I do, these are easier on the wallet. At this price it's definitely affordable. Strings and Beyond is hands down the best place! I have never seen them at my local shops.victor

My Mitchell MS450 (single cutaway LP style guitar) came with D'Add's, which sounded decent. When I switched them out, I went with the GHS 10's on a hunch based on things I've heard. Great move! Nice, brilliant tone, rings out for eternity if you let them! I have heard that the GHS 9's are really good on Strat style guitars, so GHS might be my go to on my Squier Strat Classic Vibe next string change.Joe

I used 11's from D'Addario for years and I would break a string consistently for every show that I played. I do not know why I kept with D'Addario for so long. I figured I needed to have a heavier string gauge for durability and better tone. Searched around and came across these strings in the heavy gauge, and I could not be happier with them. These strings have great sustain, are durable, do not corrode as quickly as other brands I have used in my professional career playing music, and, despite their heaviness, are easy to play in standard tuning. Along with playing well with a pick and fingers, these strings also sound terrific when playing slide. You can get the same great tones out of these strings that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have with their lighter gauges, as well as channeling the fat tones that you hear from Duane Allman from the Fillmore East show. Great Garcia tones can come from these strings as well. Basically what I am saying is that you can still get those classic guitar sounds on these heavy strings without feeling like your losing tone or playing opportunities utilized by the players that inspire you who may use lighter string gauges. These strings also (as far as I know) have a round core instead of a hex core. I think that might be a reason why these strings have so much sustain, especially when you have some distortion or overdrive keeping them warm while playing lead. If you are on the fence about getting these, I recommend you give them a try just see how they work for you. They are no that expensive and its worth it to figure out what works for you as a player. Feeling confidence in the gear you use is so essential to being comfortable on stage. Buy a pack and see what happens. You might find yourself just what you've been looking for.JFromJUNCO

I used to use Boomers for about 10 years, on all my electrics (9s). Until arthritis started creeping in. Switched to EB slinky 8s, and playing became much easier. Everything still had a huge sound, but previous order added a test set of the Boomer 8.5s for my Gibson Les Paul goldtop with P90s. Took a while to get used to the rougher feel compared with the EB 8s. But will probably order another set for the goldtop, and a set for my ES295.Joe S.
