I have a first gen Fender Telecoustic [2002] that I use as a travel guitar and for certain song parts live and in the home studio. I had been using extra light acoustic strings, which worked pretty well, but I recently started using the XL115W's and they are perfect for this guitar. The acoustic sound is bright and clear and the electric sound is just awesome – giving me all I could want. If you're looking for a different approach to stringing up your acoustic-electric, give these strings a try. BTW I tried the XL110W's on the Telecoustic first and liked them, but the 115's are perfect.
After buying these strings and slapping them on my Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow, I can honestly say that the best thing I have ever did to improve my guitar's tone was put higher gauge strings on it. Maybe semi-hollows just resonate better with them, not sure. The round 3rd string is pretty clutch – the strings I used to put on would have a very noisy, tinny-sounding 3rd string and having a wound one like this has completely solved that issue. My Artcore would just sound too twangy in general with lighter strings on it, too – and having heavier gauge strings improved that issue by leaps and bounds. I'm not exactly an expert in tone so I can't argue about the finer points of the sound these strings make – but my bottom line is, they help me to better access the range of sounds that I want from my instrument, and that's what matters. Definitely 5 stars for tone. I have one complaint though: I am an abusive bender, as it were. When I bend the strings, I push their limits pretty friggin hard, and these particular strings will only take so much. Had a string break on me yesterday while I was bending really hard but I had another set hanging around so it was all good. My lighter gauge strings from before would withstand this abuse beautifully – but just keep in mind that when you move up to thicker strings, you're making a trade-off: the thicker strings will wear out and break more quickly if you push them too hard and bend them abusively like I do. On the subject of bending, also: with the wound 3rd string, if you want to bend it, you need to bend it a lot further to get the interval that you want, so just be prepared for that. All in all however, I am VERY happy with these strings. I'll have to take it easy on the bending a little bit, but for me that's more than a worthy trade-off for strings that really make my baby sing like she should. I can't necessarily speak for how these would sound on other guitars because I've never heard what they sound like on others, but I would MOST DEFINITELY recommend them for anyone playing a hollow or semi-hollow guitar. Fantastic tone, reasonable durability, and a good price.Phoebus125
These strings helped with tuning stability issues I was having with an (Indonesian, fat neck) Epiphone 335 Dot, which I love but the unwound G string was going out of tune. Swapped out the bridge (Guitar Fetish–nice choice and half the price of TonePro) and the nut (Graph Tech), which also helped. I retained the lower three strings from the 'Heavy Bottom" set I had on it already. The top 3 strings sound great, but I've only had 'em on for a few days. I also put these on another 335-style guitar, but the bottom 3 strings felt just a bit flimsy switching back and forth with the Epi, not surprisingly. They sound good, nice and acoustically rich.Doc

Reviews:
At first, I thought that the choices for the "3 'Principal' Chords" seemed odd. I'm a struggling guitar player (for over 40 years now!) and I never thought of the 7th chords as 'Principal'. In 10 minutes I found myself experimenting with chords I hadn't used in years – that alone made it worth the price! I have plenty of chord books around, but none of them are nearly so handy as having "principal". minor and "additional" chords for every key in a simple laminated page that can be taken anywhere.Gary
I am pleased with "Guitar Chord Progressions" as it give me the information I need to play in multiple keys without having to resort to books. The chart is sturdy, allowing one to stand it up for easy view; in addition, it is completely moisture resistant. It will be a great learning tool both in terms of the information it provides as well as convenient display. And an added benefit is that the price is very reasonable for the assistance it provides.Charlie

This Riff Notes volume from Phill Dixon and Christopher Jones continues their trend of high quality, laser-focused, easily readable content suitable for beginners and long-time players. In this one, they cover strings, only strings, and nothing but the strings. The authors cover the different ways guitar strings are constructed, what strings to use on which instrument, what string gauges are most commonly used by players of different genres, and helpful tips on purchasing the right strings for you and getting the most life out of the strings you have bought. This is a slim, high-density purchase and I don't regret it for a second. The tips on restringing a guitar are useful for even longtime players. Even ten years later, I still have trouble gauging how much of the string I should cut off; this will help refresh my memory and stop me from wasting so much money on replacing strings! Like the other two volumes before it (Electric Guitar Basics and Acoustic Guitar Basics), this Riff Notes volume is sure to please. I'm beyond happy with the information provided and look forward to future volumes. Don't let these pass you by!Eric
7. Finger Ease String Lubricant
Product Details:
Tone finger-ease guitar string lubricant spray stop "string talk" dead in its tracks! since 1963, tone finger-ease has been making sure fretboards all over the world have been smooth and slick. you want a frictionless fretboard, after all, your performance should be the only thing blistering, not your fingertips! this string spray allows for much smoother guitar playing, letting your fingers glide without friction along the strings. cuts down on cuts, scrapes and sore fingertips – not to mention fudged notes or lines. best of all, finger-ease does all this without mucking up or damaging your strings or fretboard.

I've been using Fingerease for many years. It works great, as advertised… When used correctly, quiets string chatter, definitely speeds my playing, prolongs string life, helps keep calluses just moist enough so they don't dry and peel off, prevents the long day/gig finger tip pain, makes slides effortless. Works great at outdoor gigs when humidity or sweat cause finger and hand to neck drag. Surprisingly, does not cause your fingers to slip off the string while doing bends. The only complaint I have, be it small is, once you take the cap off the first time it never stays put when you place it back on can. That can cause a problem if stored in a "gig bag". I've resorted to placing a piece of duct tape on the cap to can. Although that may be "nit picky" drives me nuts!Sharkey
The Tone Finger Ease guitar string lubricant is a must have for any stringed instrument. Especially guitar. Keeping your strings clean & free of gunk & swat is essential to your over all tone. Strings create sound through "vibration" and the more free they are to vibrate the better sound they will create. By keeping your strings clean with Tone Finger Ease string lubricant you will allow you to produce a much clearer richer string tone & inspire you to play longer.guitarmandj34
This review in which I have observed and feel may not be persuaded to others, but this is not my intention in doing at all. So I want to clarify that it is an ok use for but for some critique reasons. First off, I am still a fan of this product to this day, and yes I have use this quite often. BUT, there are some few things you have to be aware of when you buy this. Most of the times when I change strings it's because they feel stiff and I have no I idea why they keep feeling stiff most of the time, until I come to realize it's the finger ease that's being in use. Here is my tip on buying a product. "ALWAYS READ WHAT'S ON THE BACK!" and yes, I have to learn this the hard way. The 1st line of the 1st paragraph is the crucial evident you have to think about, in which the part is read, "Reduces finger tenderness-stops string talk…" To me, that would mean that it will stiffen the strings to the point where there will be little or no string talk, in which case, you'll be sacrificing string bending. Many songs that are played are highly used for bending strings and such, but if you don't do strings bending at all, you wouldn't care much at all then. Also, this takes away you callous from your fingers! "…residue transfers from strings to fingers and conditions callouses, keeping soft and smooth without snags." I don't know if I am interpreting correctly, but YOU NEED TO HAVE HARD CALLOUSED FINGERS TO PLAY GUITAR OR ANY OTHER STRING INSTRUMENT! I think that this is good for nylon strings but not steel strings at all… I replaced my old elixirs nanoweb .009 over dunlop .009 and it was very good at first when I played to stretch out the strings, but after when I applied the finger ease to the strings, it just started to sound and feel really different. Now, many of you who may read this read this review will not agree with me maybe because most of you have better experience with the this more than me; But this is my experience with the product which is the reason why I'm giving this a 3 stars. It is not a good product, but it is not bad either. For now, this product will be my last can when I finish it. Until the manufacturer improves this product, I will buy it once again. By the way, the guitar that I put my strings on is a Charvel DST-FR1 which is similar to the LTD/ESP Gus-g Random star.

13. Stringjoy Signatures 10-50 Husky Light Electric Guitar Strings
Product Details:
Stringjoys signatures sets are created using the very best american-made raw materials and feature a nickel-plated steel wrap wire wound over a hexagonal-shaped core wire. since their inception, stringjoy have made it their goal to produce the very best strings they possibly can. their signatures are created using their very own specific manufacturing techniques that have been honed over the years and because of their obsession in perfecting this process, they are able to achieve a string with much tighter (closer together) winds. this inherently makes the string smoother under the fingers. it also helps increase output due to a higher mass and helps extend the lifespan of the strings as the tighter winds prevent any sweat and muck from permeating between the windings of the wound strings. stringjoy are not scared to buck the trend either. rather than resorting to creating sets using the run-of-the-mill gauges were all accustomed to, youll notice that some of their gauges stray a little from the norm. stringjoy place a big focus on balance and their sets utilise their own modern, reconstructed gauges that aim to offer a much more comfortable, playable set from string to string, all the way up and down the fretboard. heres what stringjoy say about their husky light set; these are one of our proudest inventions. through all that, weve discovered an inherent problem in a typical 10-46 light set: theres a big dip in tension on the 2nd string (.013) so weve fix all that by using a .0135 bringing perfect balance to all the plain strings.the result is just right for a ton of players, a set thats a bit heavier on the bottom, without being too

Fantastic set! Took my standard scale six-string to new lows! It’s a bit loose but useable in G but about perfect for G# on my SE archtop Rich Bich. And better than the 72 gauge EB string I had tried previously. Immediately fell into a reasonable tone and with a little EQ-ing! Been an Ernie Ball guy for years. Stringjoy has a new fan!Andrew M
I like the strings, but the over advertising on emails is really annoying. I’m not sure who is your marketing manager, but your time would be well spent at NAAM, Local guitar dealers, online advertising, etc. Maybe even getting a contract to put your strings on specialty guitars from the manufacturer, along with specs that only you meet. Such a great product, but it’s really not out there and non-stop emails are annoying to every person. Good luck as a company, hope the honest feed back helps.John L
I had been reading about these strings in forums etc and was intrigued. Decided to try a set or two and see what was up. I bought the 10-52 Signatures. Well, I have been using them for a month and a half and all I can say is, believe the hype. The feel great, nice on the fingers, and it seems like the difference in quality of the metal is noticeable. I mean, it feels that way. Maybe it's something else. I don't know but they feel good, hold tune very well and settle in easy right after they're strung up. In six weeks of home playing they have not diminished in tone or tuning stability at all. I am already subscribing for three sets every two months as well. Love my stringjoys.Brian H

15. Dr Strings Nge-11 Coated Heavy Electric Guitar Strings, 11-50, Neon Green
Product Details:

Reviews:
So far, I am happy. They are definitely day glow orange & glow under black light. I got a good deal during a sale. I will say that I knew going in they are coated strings. After lots of heavy play, the coating will eventually wear off, as with just about any coated string. To me, there is no noticeable difference between these and a regular set of strings, maybe these are a little bit smoother due to coating. I wanted an orange & black SG, and this was the topper. If you are expecting super strings that stay orange and last forever & ever, you'll probably be disappointed. I would think it obvious that if you play hard, sweat a lot, play many hours every day, etc., these strings will wear out, as would ANY. For me, I am seeing a tiny bit of flaking off the light strings, right where my pick hits, on the high E & B after about 3 weeks of playing. I am not complaining, this is about what I expected & this is my workhorse guitar. They still sound good & are still orange.
The strings I purchased lasted about as long as a normal set of strings, but were so much louder than normal strings. Thank you for selling these strings to me and for selling these works of art! I did have a disappointing moment when the paint started coming off of the strings. Too bad there isnt touch up paint but that is another story. The strings are beautiful! And they function so well! Thanks for selling these stringsto me! Sincerely Mike Thomasmitho_2380

Reviews:
I began using these strings a few years ago when I began experimenting with extreme low tunings; both standard and drop tunings (anywhere between D standard all the way down to drop-G#). At the time they were the heaviest set of strings I could find in the town where I live so I put them through the paces for a good long while before I tried other gauges/brands. Now, if strung on a good quality 25.5 scale guitar these strings do okay tension-wise all the way down to drop-A# or even drop-A for doomy, drone-type stuff. I found that if I tuned any lower than that they lost all clarity and definition. On a 24.75 scale guitar, however, drop-B was as low as I could get with them and they honestly didn't sound that great. After a few months of experimentation I found that Drop-C on a 24.75 scale guitar was just about right for this set of strings tension-wise. Later, after settling on drop-B as my main tuning, I found that the .56 bottom just wasn't thick enough to provide the string tension and clarity I need for my playing style. I also found, much to my dismay, that the .56 bottom string broke way too often to be such a thick gauge string which makes me think that the quality of these strings is sub-par compared to other brands I've tried since. I even filed down the string saddle to try and reduce the wear on the string but it didn't seem to help. I've also found that these strings rust and corrode much sooner than other brands I've tried even after I started using a string cleaner after playing. The final complaint I have about these strings is that the plain G string they put into this pack of strings sounds ridiculously bad in any tuning and the lower you tune it the worse it sounds. I imagine it would help if they made it a wound string or at least included a wound string in the pack so you could choose between the two. I've since settled on another brand of string in .10-.60 gauge and I am much happier with the tone, tension and definition compared to the EB not even slinky set.ViperDude310
I have been playing electric guitar now for over 12 months and decided to try a heavy set of Ernie Ball Electric Guitar strings in the 12-56 gauge. I was pleasantly surprised by the full bodied tonal sound coming through the amp whether it was clean guitar or through a distortion pedal. I was told that thicker or fatter strings sound stronger and louder and have found that they are not that hard to fret as I have developed finger strength over the past 12 months of playing to be able to hold the big strings down for a good solid chord sound or for note playing. I thoroughly recommend Ernie Ball electric guitar strings and the thicker the gauge the better if you can handle it.
I needed a set of strings to reproduce a heavily Black Sabbath influenced recording (c. Vol 4) that would not thin out in a drop tuning environment, standard for slide playing and standard for thickening the tone and sustain before I got to my amp or effects loop I tried out a set of these when I was informed they are indeed made in the USA. Short answer: Oh yeah, oh hells yeah! The increased tension in the neck might make these strings unsuitable for some players. I'm on a neck though body Gibson SG and have been holding solidly in tune (E=329Hz. A=440Hz, etc).for over a week with no loss. When you put these string on you will need to stretch them with a string stretching tool or by bending the string left to right, right to left with your thumb and finger from the nut to the bridge to keep them in tune, go down the string in 1/2" increments and repeat until you run out of string. Many players put on a set of strings and break as they go, try this and see how much less you have to tune in the overall lifespan of the string, i break in all my strings with this method and it works wonders. I would NOT use these for guitars manufactured with inexpensive components (e.g. knockoffs and starter kit guitars) as you will go out of tune due to the lack of strength on the wood used to build and the tuning pegs which are usually very cheaply produced from inferior metals with shoddy gears and posts and truss rods that are misaligned and/or made form inferior components. Once on these strings sound big, (e.g. yo mama big), the fatter tone and sustain going to these from light and medium gauge .9/.10 – .42/.48 is immediately noticeable and leaving yourself in standard tuning will be much more of a workout on your fret hand, but the payoff is the tone and sustain you can get from the increase in string mass and tension. For the negative reviews I'd be interested to see what kind of guitars these strings are being set up on and what the manufactures recommend. I'm planning on putting the other set of these on a G&L ASAT (AKA Telecaster 2.0) for heavy blues slide and I will observe if that stays in tune as well.as it's a 4 bolt neck, but if your gear is not very good to begin then don't expect adding that much more tension to an inexpensively made guitar to behave like a quality instrument.Sultan of the Six Strings

Been playing guitar since 2004, and started playing more metal/hard rock stuff shortly after. I used to always use my father's d'addario's as a kid, but bought these because of the dimebag logo when in 2007, and they did not disappoint. The feel, the tone, the longevity of the tunings are all exquisite. Have turned several friends onto these strings over the years. Excellent for my usage, metal and rock work in standard, Drop D, and Drop C. Will buy these strings as long as they are manufactured, specifically the 10-46 set.Scotty
These strings feel great on your hands and last a very long time. After the initial stretch they stay in tune very well and sound great. I see why Dimebag used them. I installed these on all 12 of my guitars and I buy them by the case from AMS. I have tried every string out there and these are by far my absolute favorite. The price is great and so are the strings, you can’t beat that! They respond very well to harmonics and floyd rose dive bombs. Just all around great strings! Thanks DR and AMS!Brett W

Reviews:
These strings are okay for the price, but I've had several problems with them. 1) This is not a sealed pack, so when I bought it the .010 had rusty patches right out of the pack and maybe the .013 too. They're in individual folded paper sleeves all together in an open-air fold-over plastic sheath. 2) They're NOT for your standard extended-range/long scale 8-string. Short scale guitars only. These fit my 25.5" guitar nicely, but when I tried putting these on my Agile Interceptor 30" scale guitar, they were probably 5"+ too short. Didn't even reach the nut, much less the peg (partly because it's a string-through, tune-o-matic, long scale, and reverse-inline, so lots of extra string is needed. Also, on the paper sleeve, it tells you that it's a 30" taper, which means that the string gets narrow after 30" to fit through the tuning peg. On many extended-rang/long scale guitars, the taper will begin before the nut, which you do NOT want. You want the string to be the same diameter along the entire vibrating length. 3) The tension balance is all out of whack. The gauges are okay on the last 6 strings for 25.5" scale. A little too tight from the .054 down (I can imagine on your typical long-scale 8-string they'd be way too tight), but I drop-tune the low strings to E and A, and the .074 is totally floppy and smacking the frets and the 0.64 could definitely be thicker. The Kev
I wrote a review earlier about these strings, but I have definitely changed my mind. I do have an eight string, and I used these for it and wow…they were not very good. The most obvious thing was the .74 string gets smaller WAY before the tuners, even for my seven string. So playing the first fret feels extremely awkward. Second, palm muting on these things sounds hideously dirty compared my old strings or even the stock strings. I also have to agree that a .54 for the E string is very ridiculous. The only thing I'd recommend these for is softer playing or if you never play chords. Otherwise, get the D'Addario or any other 8-string set.Brian Dice
Ernie Ball completely failed on this one! Ernie Ball is my usual brand of string, but whoever put this set together knows absoultely nothing about string tension or 8 string guitars. 8 string guitars are extended scale instruments from 27-30", so why are they putting a .054 for the E and a .064 on the B? In their 7 string sets they put a .052 or .056 on their low B, and that's for a normal 25.5" scale. Do you see any logic in this? Then they put a .074 on the 8th string. It's actually a good choice for the 8th string tension-wise (if the rest of the strings were balanced), but it has WAY too little tension compared to the low E and B. Compared to the other incredibly heavy strings in the pack it makes no sense. If you want a nice, balanced set look into LaBella Crazy 8's, or just buy a 7 string set and add on the appropriate 8th string.
