Line 6 Spider Iv 150 150W 2X12 Guitar Combo Amp For Sale (2024 Update)

I've been using a lot of different amps over my 30 years of playing jazz/funk/blues. I had a Line 6 150 several years ago and just started looking at the reviews again. I thought I wanted to go tube again, so I sold the Line 6 150. What a waste of time. Now I'm full circle looking to pick up another 150/212. I still have my Spider 11 75/112 and a Spider MK11 112 Bogner 40 watt tube, which I love. I also had the Line 6 Low Down 300 bass amp head that I sold to finance something else. I have to say, I get some great tone from these amps, great tone! One thing I'd suggest to Line 6, skip all the presets and let the musician create their own sounds. This is why I love my Spider 11, no presets. To me they will never be used and just take up space. Though I'm sure there's plenty of people who would want this feature. I once loaned My 150 to a guy who was playing next to someone playing through a Fender Twin Reverb and my Line 6 did better than keep up. People kept asking me what amp it was because it sounded great. Take the time to work with the controls and you can tweak some great sound out of this amp and there's more than enough power.Alchemy220

I ordered this amp because I just wanted something new. I have a carvin x100b, a line 6 240 modeling amp and an old 100 watt Yamaha from the 70s…. love all of them but this Randall is sweet. I like the 3 channels, the foot switch and the sound is very pleasing. However this amp is heavy but I dont play professionally so I am fine with that. It is nice that it comes with casters though. Very solid amp, very quiet just make sure you have good cables and the electronics in your guitar are operating correct.Karl C

Quality: This amp is EXTREMELY solid for it's ~$500 price-point. It truly is built to last and take some punishment while doing so. The soft finish WILL take damage fairly quickly, though. Other than the soft finish, the build quality is superb. Tone: The Green channel is very nice for a cheaper amp and takes pedals exceedingly well. The bright switch adds a noticeable and sparkly treble bump. The Red channel has an evenly saturated crunch that really holds it's own in moderate-gain riffing. The Blue channel's tone honestly disappointed me. It's very bass heavy and nasally and with a Duncan JB I could not get enough highs to show through for studio recording. Gain: This is a MODERATE gain amp. You can get some heavy crunch but, you will need a gain/boost pedal if you want heavy gain. Stage Ready? Yes. At 3/4 volume, having no trouble keeping up with a Crate Blue-Voodoo halfstack. I highly recommend this amp for bedroom and small-venue playing.Caleb B.

Sound: I run the eq bass-6, mid-5, treble-6. Mid scoop engaged. Bass boost on. It crushes!!! I prefer the red channel for rhythm. Features: Everything looks and works great. I was concerned about the box being made of particleboard. In my experience it seems that particleboard tends to suck some volume. That being said. This combo is beastly loud. I can't imagine how loud it would be with a solid birch plywood box. Ease of Use: Super easy to use. Nothing complicated about this thing. Quality: Only time will tell. It sounds great now. Value: Definitely worth the money. I knew the gain channels would sound good. I wasn't expecting the clean channel to sound so good though. Super crisp and punchy. Manufacturer Support: Factory support was good. zZounds return/exchange process was super painless. 2 weeks after getting my amp the master volume was giving me issues. Either the pot was bad or it was a bad solder job. I contacted zZounds and they send out a return label right away. I contacted Randall also because I believed it would be an easy fix and didn't really think it was worth the trouble and expense to exchange. Randall said they wanted to get it back to see if they had an issue with the manufacturing process. This was good to hear. They said they weren't just concerned with making my amp work right but trying to prevent this from happening to future purchasers. I got my new amp fast! Thanks zZounds! The Wow Factor: I have a pretty good collection of amps. I didn't NEED this amp but I love playing it and I'm glad I got it. Overall: I got this to transport in my car back and forth for writing sessions. At almost 100 lbs I didn't really think that one out. All I was concerned with was getting killer tone without hauling a half stack. I never expected this thing to be capable of such volume & clarity. Sounds killer for not being a tube amp! I did consider swapping out the speakers for some lighter ones but I have several cabs with various speakers (Vintage 30, Greenbacks, Greenback Heritage, EVM 12Ls) and I really preferred the stock speakers with this power section. This thing is definitely loud enough by itself to practice with a full band.Timmy

Bought this amp based on many reviews on youtube, looked at many other models first but am glad I decided on the Amplifi 150. Also bought the FBV Shortboard MKII, a must have in my opionion, more on this later. Amp has excellent sound and can be used as a wireless bluetooth speaker. When I downloaded the Amplifi app that is when I really found out what this amp could do. You can play a song from your music library through the app and it will quickly find/display "presets" from the cloud to try. If you find one you like you can save it the way it is or edit it to your taste. With only the amp you can save 4 presets, by adding the shortboard you can save 100 presets, in 25 banks of 4. The shortboard also comes with a built in tuner and wah/volume pedal. Using the app you create your own sounds too. Choose from 200 different amps, many different stomp boxes, delay, reverb, modulation effects. Has noise gate, compressor, equilizer and volume. It took one short call to Line6 support to resolve a few issues I had initially, easy common sense errors on my part (how to store and retrieve the presets and how to increase the music playback so it was at the same level as my gutar). Once this was resolved I have had nothing but fun using the AmplifiErt68

Kudos to Line6 for such an innovative product. First of all, this is not a tube amp and Line6 never claims it to be…so please don't try and compare this to tube amps. It synced to my 3rd Gen iPad instantly and very quickly found tone suggestions for all my songs…even some of my own band. Some were dead on perfect…others required a little tweaking to get them to my liking. This depends on what kind of guitar you have plugged in – single-coil Strat, humbucker Les Paul, etc. The Tone Editor does a great job and is very intuitive. The included instructions are pretty lame; they basically show you how to plug in your guitar, turn on the amp and sync to an iOS device. After that, you are on your own to find more information. Luckily, the Line6 website has helpful videos and a great user forum for info. I had to update my firmware from 1.02 to 2.01 to be able to play all of the 100 mfg presets. Originally, I only had the 4 presets. The upgrade was easy, following the instructions on the website. This thing is plenty loud and I think it has a great tone and endless possibilities. I use it mainly for practice and it serves that purpose expertly! Song reproduction through the five speakers is excellent.Stanlo

This "amp" (it does more than most guitar amps) is extremely versatile. The secret is in the bluetooth connection to the Line6 app called Aplifi (free download) which allows you to edit your patches on your IOS device (an ipad is much easier than an iphone). Pick from 80+ amps, a large selection of pedals and effects, and drop-and-drag them into any order you want – then hit SAVE and you have that sound at the touch of a button. You can share your sounds with others via the Line6 library – and you can download other patches as well. The unit has 4 preset buttons – so your first 4 presets are accessable even if you don't have the app, but you really need to the app to edit the patches. Match this with a Line6 floor pedalboard (make sure you use Cat5 PATCH cable and not CROSSOVER cables) and you've got a great rig. It's loud enough that you can hear it on a stage in a club against other combo amps. There are a lot of modeling devices out there (Line 6 boards) but the trick is finding the full range flat response speaker system that can let you really hear those sounds correctly – as if you were plugged into a recording console. This until has all the editing ability AND the speaker for the amp. It also doubles as a great bluetooth speaker system – so you can play yourspotify tunes over this with plenty of clear power. Finally, it's stylish that you can have it your living room and not look like Guitar Center. The 150w version is loud enough to keep up with most live gig bands on smaller stages (and most venues would mic it anyway). It doesn't have an option for a extention speaker or line out (to a mixer of FOH) but you can record from the USB port, so there's that option. If you have versatile playing style (I play in several cover bands so I need to go from Taylor Swift to Bruno Mars to Journey to John Mayer) it's a great purchase. I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. Been playing about a year, so my review is from the perspective of a complete newbie. The things I like- Lots of presets, mobile app functions, computer interface, and loads of user created effects available. Nice and loud, but no real basis of comparison to say if clarity is better or worse than other comparable amps. Don't likes- The micro-usb interface. I had to get an adapter and it's just not as good a connection as nearly anything else would be. IMHO, micro-usb is far too flimsy. Connecting to PC is far more problematic than just using the spider mobile app. It's probably a little more complicated than it should be for a beginner, but it's feature rich for the money.Nic T

I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. There's enough that if you work at it you can get a decent sound but there could be some better ones. Overall I would recommend the amp. Don't listen to the naysayers or the amp snobs, it's a quality amp and extremely versatile.Just Plain Joe

I had previously bought a Roland 80GX but it required too much tweaking to get the sound I was looking for. So I still wasn't satisfied. When I was playing out in the early nineties I was using an all tube Carvin half-stack which was pretty basic…clean or distorted with reverb and very loud. Great amp but I eventually sold that because it was way too much for home use, and frankly, it sounded best when cranked up. I teach guitar now and I don't intend on playing out again, but I still wanted an amp that was simple to use, solid state so I wouldn't be concerned about replacing tubes, and would be powerful enough to do a gig if I ever got swayed into that again. The only built-in effect on the Bandit is reverb which is all I want besides distortion. I've read that it takes pedals great but I haven't gotten around to trying any. The best thing about this amp (for me) is that I can stop searching for the amp I want. This one is perfect. Clean or dirty, it has great sound and can get seriously loud. For my purposes it also sounds very good at low volume.Russ

Overall: I was able to gig with the unit twice before I had to send it back for exchange. The one I got had issues that occurred,buzz started to happen when nothing is plug in and even when all the controls are set to zero,buzz is still fairly loud!and then the three way switch in the rear panel that switches from 100%-50%-25% does not engage to 25% percent. yes this amp is loud! and last of all you have to buy the peavey footswitch….The Great news is, this amp sounds very good both clean and dirty channel. The cleans can be dialed well(fendery!) and takes Overdrive/Distortion well and that's if you need a pedal. The Lead channel has great gain depending on what you use it for! I like the classic Overdrive/Distortion(aka- marshall) setting allot. I play in two different bands, the first band I'm in plays Rock/Alternative,Twang Rock,Blues Rock,Heavy Rock, Responds real well to volume knob adjustments on the guitar during live playing. The other band is more Funk,Jazz fusion,Gospel,R-n-B type and this amp does it well without any pedals! and that's what I bought this amp for! basically I don't wanna use pedals,just amp cable,guitar and the footswitch to switch from clean to dirty and solo boost when needed. And it does it very well! I dig this amp allot. All the features and especially the solo boost function is awesome! the effect loop works well. I hook up my Boss DD20 with two 15ft cables(not live just for home use!) and there was hardly any tone lost or I could not tell at all. And this is coming from an overly picky Guitar Player. This amp is well thought out by Peavey Engineers and last of all its pretty light amp!Now I just have to wait for the other Peavey Bandit to be delivered to my front door and hope its trouble free!,and thank you zZounds for taking care of business, you always took care of me when there were unexpected issues and you got on top of it fast. Everyone treats this like either a country/blues amp, or a metal amp. But it does fantastic tones for bands in between. Think Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Kings of Leon, The Gaslight Anthem, Death Cab… those in-between tones…it NAILS them. The amp sounds tube. And i mean that. And i've played/owned a LOT of expensive tube amps. I love this thing. Sounds great. Is it a JCM800, Princeton, AC30, or Deluxe? No. It's not. But it can get amazing ballpark sounds. And I dont mean "Line 6, Fender Mustang" ballpark, I mean close your eyes and it would take a discerning ear. Sounds great at low volume but absolutely keeps up with a drummer at half volume. I can gig with mine no problem. If I HAD to pick something to gripe about, it's that by now the new ones should have the 3 different overdrive types foot-switchable. As it is, you can switch between clean and overdrive. But you set which type of overdrive (vintage, modern, high gain) at the amp and if you want to change your OD type you have to do so with your hands. This is an extremely minor complaint though and I'm being crazy picky. Especially considering that between a tube-screamer, Joyo AC Tone and the vintage channel, I can get every sound I'll ever use. I'm not really into the heavy stuff, but it does do that very well too. Oh also, it takes pedals like a tube amp. I've read reviews from people who say that it doesn't and they must be insane. Also..i dont know why the youtube videos comparing them to fender amps sound so muddy or dark, that is DEFINITELY a settings problem. I can get mine sounding VERY fender. And i'd put it up against a Hotrod Deluxe any day of the week.underXtheXradar

Great amplifier, especially for the money. First of all it is an amazing pedal platform amp with nice bass and mid response. Everything I've run into it sounds really good, and it's near breakup gain is gain on 10 and boost off. It is most like a JTM45, it has a lot more bass and more active tone controls than later Marshall amplifiers like the JCM900 I previously owned. It doesn't overdrive too much on its own, but if you push it with a booster, it does pretty well. It is loud, even in the low power setting, and to really get it to drive, you need to push the power amp. It also doesn't seem to have as much drive as I remember from trying a 50 watt version, but that may have been the guitar more than the amp. Great value, I would recommend it to anyone looking for what I just described. If you want something that sounds like a Super Lead, Super Bass, or JCM800, this is not the right thing to buy. If you want a great pedal platform or early Marshall sound, you can't beat it.Craig

I've had My Marshall Origin for about 6 months and I've been pleasantly surprised. I've been a Les Paul/Marshall guy for 40 years and I have the hearing loss to prove it but this Marshall has it all. This versatile 20 watt head is the perfect combination of versatility and guts.This Amp is perfect for pedals as it great grand daddies were, I use an J Rockett Archer Ikon Klon clone, An OCD a Tone City King of Blues and an original Electro harmonics LPB-1 booster. I can go from crystal clear bell like tones to Ace's plexi grind to the verge of jCM 800 tones or straight in crank the Gain and get that sweet traditional Marshall tone and attack. Unlike the Marshalls of old the EQ section greatly influences the color of this Head and along with the tilt control which replaces the need to jump channels from the Hi and Lo inputs its all there. The addition of the switchable effects loop is a huge plus as is the gain/Boost control which gives you that little extra edge for leads. Running the amp on full and using your guitars volume and tone controls gives you a lot of versatility as well. The adjustable power out put feature is nice for quiet practice but I prefer to use my Bugera PS-1 attenuator and keep my amp volume on 10, just a personal preference. A suggestion, I've used this head with 1×12 and 2×12 cabinets an it sounds good but when i finally plugged it into a 4×12 this amp took on a whole new personality. The 4×12 let this amp breathe and with the EH LPB-1 driving the front end and a little reverb I had ACE's Kiss alive tone dead on by using the gain boost and a little color from various pedals the tone possibilities a vast. All in all this amp would be a great deal at twice the price, marshall once again did it right.Miggs

I just bought this amp with the Line 6 FBV short board; they work well together of course. The amp is a lot of fun with the looper and presets and the endless ways you can tweak your tone. I love the amp but there are a few things which could be better. You must use a 2 gig or smaller SD card or it reboots if you try to save to a bigger card. So just get a bunch of small Sd cards before they are unavailable–only a few places still have them–which is kind of a pain. It does record nice but I haven't figured out how to record the mic input and the guitar input at the same time, so I always have to do two tracks. There is a switch which switches the input for recording back and forth from mic input to guitar jack. With the short board you can turn the looper and presets on on the fly, but you must put the foot pedal in the recording mode, and when the FBV is in the record mode you have to switch it back to channel mode to switch different guitar tones. So to switch to a different guitar tone you have to do another track to reset it. Anyway, I just thought these few drawbacks could have been easily figured out and fixed. Hopefully the next generation can take the more available SD cards, record more than one track at a time, and make the FVB do all the functions in one mode. However, it's nice having all the gimmicks for having fun in one package. Even thought I give it four stars instead of five, it "is" worth the low price, and I would buy it again knowing what I know now.Songwritunfool

The Line 6 spider jam changed my life in many ways. First and foremost you can save every idea that you come up with! 2nd it helped me to become a songwriter, it has everything you need so you dont have to rely on other people showing up to practice. Its allowed me to put the time into writing that I never could before, because face it most people dont want to rehearse 7 days a week, or even 5 for that matter! If you are looking for a versatile and fun practice amp that you can record and gig with, this thing Rocks. I am primarily a bassist and just learning how to do leads on guitar and this amp fit the bill perfect. It does not have the warmth of a top of the line tube amp, but I did not need that as an intermidiate player. This thing has pretty awesome effects and tone varieties for about a couple hundred varieties and most I will never use. You can record, you can plug in a mic or a bass, you can jam tithe rhythm tracks, it has headphones so you play without waking the wife or neighbors, and a built-in tuner! That is just what I have discovered so far! The price makes this the perfect amp for practice, recording, and even small venue performances (half way up on the master and it is loud!) the only thing is it takes time to figure out and discover all the tones and capabilities, but that is also half the fun! Also the clean tones are good but not great. The distortions are fantastic! Not that the cleans are not useable, but they are bit thin for me. HIGHLY recommend!! Have fun!DFW_Bassman65

I've been playing night clubs, Casinos, Hot Rod Runs, Bike Runs, weddings, parties, and everything since 1979. I used to use 2 Fender Twin Reverbs with Celestian G-12-65's and a rack of effects processors (to run STEREO), with a octopus of wiring to set up at every gig, plus an octopus of switches and stomp boxes and wall warts on power sttrips on the floor. Set up time and tear down time took hours. Sometimes all that wiring maze would pick up the 60 cycle hum, and what a mess locating the buzz! After a gig I had to set all that stuff up again at my home studio to practice. Sometimes there was no time… In 1996 I bought a Line 6 Flextone 2-12 (stereo) and that changed everything. It ended all the major problems and electrical buzzes. I programmed the Flextone right next to my Fender Twins and matched the tones exactly on the Flextone. WOW! No more Octopus Monster and Heavy Gear! I have since had a Spider III HD 120 with 412 bottom, 2 Spider III 210 combo's a Spider Valve 100 head, and recently a Spider IV 120 210. I Use the Spider iii 120 210 and Spider IV 120 210 amps on stage exclusively, with an FBV floorboard. Very Simple for stage and Awesome Sound everywhere I play! But again, many times my gear is loaded in a trailer, or at the venue and I need something that sounds like my Spider IV,,, so I got a Spider IV 15 watt. I quickly dialed in my 6o's Fender Reverb Tone for Country and Surf Tone on Ch 1, my StevieRay Vaughan "Little Wing" tone on Ch 2, The Stevie Ray Vaughan Roto-Vibe Tone on Ch 3, and a Van Halen tone on the Insane CH 4. I'm good to go! The only thing missing, is that the larger Spider Amps have a separate Reverb knob and the Spider 15 shares either the Echo Delay or reverb on the same knob, so you can't have both to smooth out the delay. It's one or the other on the Delay or the Reverb, but that's not a big deal on a great practice amp, that i could use onstage if I had a mishap with my other amps. Sounds best when you aren't pushing the master all the way to the max. Crank it up, dial in your tones, then back it off about 7 on the Channel Volumes, match them, and run the master at about 6 or 7. I can switch the channels with my FBV Floorboard and use it for practicing in real small rooms with a band. If it's not loud enough…Mic it! The tones I use are there and I can pack this amp in 2 minutes and walk out with my guitar without breaking my back with the heavier stuff. Fits right on my front seat. Done Deal! If it's your first amp, it's probably the best starter amp for the money, and for me, I have my tones dialed in for practice anywhere with no hassles.Kenny

Ups dropped it off yesterday, and it is everything I hoped, but better. The metal and insane channels are perfect. The clean is gorgeous, for a sort of metal clean tone. If you want to play a lot of Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, you might be better off with a Vypyr. but if you want Mettallica and Crue, to A7X, back to AC/DC and Aerosmith, youll love it. The metal channel is heavy as hell, and can still get up and throw piercing highs and mids. Everything is tight and punchy as hell. The biggest thing that shocked me was the clarity at seemingly stupid volumes for such a small amp. MF was out of stock when I ordered it, and I still had it in 7 days with free shipping. Very satisfied with this guitar amp. It has a lot of great effects, like flanger, reverb, tremolo, and tape echoes (to name a few). It's very fun to mess around with settings to create great spacey sounds and heavy, sludgy tones. It's also very easy to use. The amplifier also has very useful features, like a built-in tuner and a "save" feature, where the amp can save and remember four different settings at the push (and hold) of a button. It has great tone, volume, and variety, and it picks up things like pinch harmonics extremely well on the Metal and Insane tones. It's also pretty light to carry. I'd definitely recommend this amp for someone just starting out and for someone who's rather experienced with guitar playing. Great price for an amazing amplifier.Katastrophecy

This amp is built for the performing rock musician. It's all about gain and rock tones. Oh want some clean, just back off your guitar's volume knob in channel one and hit the reverb button on the foot switch and you got clean ! The build is one of the best I have seen in my 50 years of playing and building amps and electronics. Anything Ed builds is the best. The new stacked pots to control the first two channel's gain and volume is a real help. The 2×12 combo also provides free weight training as you move from job to job and an added health benefit often overlooked. Ya it's heavy cause it's built so well. If you dare go to channel 3 then better fasten your seat belt but C3 can be easily tamed by turning down the gain. In my music room I set the power level to 1 watt and can still drive and countersink a 16 common nail. Great amp and I love the ivory color.Doc Montana

best pure rock metal amp ive heard/played. just incredible gain that really holds together well. this amp just roars. tons of headroom. you will never be drown out by a heavy handed drummer with this. tried a marshall jvm and this thing blows that out of the water. power attenuator works great. clean sound not as good as say a fender twin but it is pretty good. i play mostly classic rock and blues and got this to indulge my occasional 80s metal itch but it is more versatile than i thought. only reason i gave 4 stars is ch1 and ch 2 shared eq. fyi this is BIG. heavy as heck but wheels make it a bit easier. other than that its greatthe cheese

Overall: This is an old-school tube amp that has the best gain I've ever heard. It is incredibly loud, with all the balls a stack would have, and because of the Celestians, it sounds classic and gorgeous. But wait! It has a power leveler dial so you can sound like a stack at ONE WATT! Pretty cool.You should probably (definitely) grab a noise gate as well. Seriously, you turn this thing on and it sounds like my folk's old Zenith floor model TV lol…but the sound of that gain is worth the hassle of a little noise.I'm currently playing in a country/rock/southern rock band and cut my teeth on classic rock and 80's metal…this amp will handle all with ease.The best amp I've ever owned.RIP EddieDavid

This amp is versatile and easy to use stand-alone. It has a great selection of amp models built-in, along with enough effect and delays so that you can find something that you like fairly quickly. I like the clean and boutique models with some reverb. Then I played around with the other models, adjusting settings and effects. You can adjust everything on the amp, not necessary to connect a computer. I did find it confusing initially due to all the different methods required, i.e. "press a button", "press and hold", "press for 2 seconds", etc. That's why I read the manual a few times! Line6 puts a nice 2-sided "cheat sheet" on top of the amp around the carrying handle which is a lot easier than flipping through small pieces of paper staring at small font printing. So don't remove the amp-topper sheet and toss it in the box with the rest of the packing material :-). The best feature of the Catalyst amp is the manual channel. This is WYSIWYG. Adjust the knobs and controls just like a "regular"amp. You can then save the settings once you get something you like. In the future I will connect the amp to the computer and see what else you can do. Right now I am quite happy with the Catalyst amp and I highly recommend it. Go get one!Gene

After suffering a disabling back injury I needed an amp that was easier and lighter to move and set up than the tube amp combos I was used to playing through. I never cared much for the solid state amps as they could never duplicate the warmth a tube amp provided and was considering retiring from live performance altogether. Then I heard about the Catalyst series of amps and decided to try them out and was amazed! My bandmates were as well, telling me how much more clean and clear my sound was. Programming channels was a snap ( just follow the "cheat sheet on top of the amp and read the manual) and the manual button provides the familiarity of a regular amp, and at a third of the weight of my Blackstar 40 watt tube combo I can continue to perform without dealing with debilitating back pain from moving a 70 pound amp. I was so impressed I went back to GC and got the 60 watt Catalyst as well for home and playing at open mic and jams. I couldn't be happier with these amps and am grateful for the help and guidance the folks at Guitar Center in Concord Ca. always provide.Stephen

I have a few amps that I'm selling and a couple that need work – I picked up this Catalyst 60 on a whim so I'd have something reliable and portable while I'm moving amps around my local used market – but I'm super impressed with this amp and am probably going to upgrade to the 100w model! (In fact, I'll get two because I play in stereo!) I found it impossible to get a bad sound out of this, I plugged in direct with my Vox Virage DC and tried all the possible pickup combinations and did not want to stop playing. Great cleans, great crunch. The higher gain amp settings had me revisiting the metal riffs of my youth, haha. I haven't dived into the software editor because: I haven't needed to. This thing sounds great out of the box.FitzG

I had been looking at a new tube amp and had a couple different amps in mind. My local GC is rather small but on a recent trip to the Chicago area I stumbled across one of these in the wild. I played it for about 15 minutes and new I had to buy it. It sounds incredible. I really like how simple the clean channel is with just a volume control, but allows the true sound of the guitar to shine through. It loves single coils and has really nice breakup at higher volumes. The dirty channels exactly that but you can get everything from creamy overdrive to crunchy distortion. Even at the lower watt settings you have plenty of headroom. I'm a big fan of the twin 10in speakers and the tube buffered effects loop is a great addition. My only wish is that it would come with a foot pedal. Regardless, I could not be happier with this amp.Evan P

Using this amp primarily with a PRS McCarty 594 and it continues to amaze me more the longer I own with it… the natural channel is clear, bright and balanced. I can easily dial the overdrive to the distortion needed to cover Deep Purple, AC/DC stuff and dial it down for classic softer stuff like Allman Bros and. Fleetwood Mac. Haven't even begun to see everything that could be done with the effects loop… wah and delay pedals sound fantastic… very full with the double voice of the world stereo speakers. Both channels are plenty loud for gigging in smaller venues… even with drums. Effects loop in/out could be more accessible as they are tucked up inside the back… just a minor issue though. This amp is beefy, feels like it could take a beating . Weight is not bad considering it's a combo and I haven't had any trouble carrying it up and down stairs when I take it out. Very happy with this amp…. I feel like it's one of the best combos out there right now.John

Just picked this up new. I was swapping back an evh 5150 head and prs stealth 212 cab (god that thing was sweet), because it didn't take my helix line 6 very well in the 4 cable method. I was trying out a mesa solo rectifier 112 combo, a vox AC 30 and this amp. The cleans of an AC30 are my favorite of the three, and the mesa certainly had more chunk on the distortion channel than the other two (although that evh through the prs cab was simply another world better than any of these three amps). The rocker 32 however had a pretty nice clean sound, if inflexible (no tone control at all), and about as much drive as an or15(one of my favorite amps). You can get some serviceable metal tones, although I'm sure a speaker upgrade might do wonders for the tone of the amp. It's just extremely versatile and flexible, I prefer to get my gain from my amp, then maybe throw an 808 in front of the amp, I'm not a huge fan of distortion pedals. NOW onto why this amp was such a must have. This amp will make your effects sound studio quality. No more worrying about mixing in your effects loop or a dropoff in volume. Your delays will sound utterly pristine, without and kinda gunk added on in the fx loop. it will simply bring your effects to life, and the stereo effect really can add quite element to your live playing. The speakers need to be upgraded, but at a pricepoint of 1100, they had to cut corners somewhere on a 30 watt 2×10 amp. This might not be your go to amp for tone when recording, or an absolute thumper for live metal shows, but if you're an effect junkie, this is a loud enough, versatile enough amp that is a must have for you. Bought this from SamAsh White Plains. This amp is so versatile, I haven't even begun to figure out much of it's capabilities. There are plenty of preset sounds which already sound great. Don't let the 2 – 4" speakers fool you into thinking it is quiet. It is pretty loud for a medium sized room. Can't wait to get a 2 x 12" cabinet to pair with this. This amp is the swiss army knife of amp heads. A loud 240 watts chock full of effects and a built in digital wireless that's rechargeable. As an added bonus there's a couple of built-in speakers ideal for home practice. The pre-set sounds are totally useable without modification. Amazing value.DrJ

Open box item was missing cable and instructions. Called immediately and they mailed me a cable. Tested And found a lot of preamps missing and quite a few of the artist song effects and odd delay effects the amp would just cutout like a bad cable in the middle of song. Was really worried but the metal rhythm with drums and loop didn't cut out at all for 6 hours straight play. Next day I researched factory reset which was very easy and it fixed the amp. Probably why customer returned it as open box. Genious, MF or GC should have definitely factory reset the amp and sent with cable though, when I called in they said open box items are thoroughly inspected and I definately regretted trying to save money in the condition it showed up in. I bought this amp for my son to replace the Line 6 Spider Valve amp he currently was using. This one is basically the same, but about half the weight. He absolutely loves this amp and has been very happy with it. He is able to program the various types of effects and easily toggles thru them to get the one he wants to use for the next song in the set list. I definitely would recommend this particular amp. This is the second Line 6 Spider-Valve amp I have owned. Still trying to figure out why I sold the 1st!! Great tone and very easy to use. The only cautionary note, is when you change channels (line 6 channels), The need to turn channel volume and master volume to zero is VERY important. Some channels are set EXTREMELY loud from factory. I mean ear-damaging loud. After you set your presets, all those channels are as safe as you set them. I set mine at a much lower volume and turn the master up as required. All-in-all a great little amp!!! Too bad Line 6 quit making them!!darnright1

I love this amp. It is such a nice sound and so small and convenient to carry around or move from place to place. I am excited about the clean and also dirty sounds you can get. It has the best of both. Very clear and clean. I was absolutely amazed at the fullness of the sound. The biggest drag for any musician is carrying equiptment around and this is the answer to your prayers. I was looking for a tube amp head and a 112 cab. Like a lot of people I don't have a ton of money to spend, but I wanted something that would work for what I do. When I got the amp it worked and as advised a let the power tubes warm up before I used it. this is a list of features I really like. 1. A good built in reverb. 2. An effect loop. 3. A switch for 4,8 and 16 Ohm speakers. 4. Came with a foot switch that that controls the channels and turn the reverb on or off 5. Two channels. A clean and a dirty. 6. Responsive tone and volume knobs. 7. Four pre-amp and two power-amp tubes. 8. The Infinity self bias feature for changing tubes. 9. One of the best clean channels I've ever used on a tube amp. 10. Works very well with pedals and effects units. 11. A indicator in back to let you know if the tubes need to be replaced. 12. A great price for a 50 watt all tube amp. 13. Looks great, almost like a Vox Night Train(which I believe Bugera modeled this after). 14. Works extremely well with the Burgera 112TS cab. Great cab by the way. 15. Has a fat switch which is helpful for people using single coil pickups in their guitars. These are the thing I didn't care for. 1. A fairly bad dirty channel. It tends to get fizzy sounding when bring up the gain. 2. The Tone Cut Knob in my opinion is pretty much useless. It kill your tone and sounds like a wet blanket was put over the speaker or speakers. Maybe if you use it slightly I could see a use for it, but you're better off using your EQ and/or adding an EQ to your effects loop. 3. The stock tubes aren't that good, but then again you can't except much for an inexpensive tube amp. I love and enjoy playing different kinds of music, but I love my metal :). I put in a set of GT 6L6GEs, a EH 12AX7 in V1, a Tung Sol 12 AX7 in V2, a EH 12AX7 in V3 and a EH 12AX7 in V4. This cleaned up the fizzy sound and tightened up my tone, but you still need separate overdrive and compression to put this amp in modern metal territory.Realmofreal

I have had the G20 for a couple of weeks and it has exceeded my expectations. I have had over a dozen amps in the past few decades, mostly solid state combos. One exception is an Orange Micro Dark hybrid I still own. This is my first all tube amp, and to me, the G20 provides "better" tones than any of my others. The G20 feels well built, with metal knobs & switches, solid connectors, and nice tolex with everything straight. The Morph knob adds great variety and tone controls work well. I have played it through 3 similar 1×12 open-back pine cabinets with Celestion Rocker 50, V-Type, and WGS ET-65 speakers. It sounds different with each one providing their own character. My previous right-angle instrument cable did not fit well with the input location and upgrading with a straight Kirlin cable was a noticeable improvement. The amp sounds good with a 1994 Fender Am.Std. Strat – getting nice clean and bluesy tones. Mostly, I've played a 2014 GLP Studio with 490s. With the Gain at 12 o'clock & Volume on 10, the Overdrive channel provides a nice, well, overdrive. The cleans are nice – clear and chimey. With Clean Volume at 3 o'clock, to match the gain settings when channel switching, it gets a bit dirty when guitar volume approaches 10. The Master allows you to get the tone you like and adjust the volume. With the above settings, the Master on 1, the amp is pretty loud in a 24' x 16' room. I have found it responsive to volume and tone adjustments on the guitar and pick attack. The reverb seems good (set on 1), but the cabinets with their location provide a certain amount of reverb so I have a hard time telling how effective it is otherwise. I really like this amp! It is quiet and can produce a variety of very nice guitar tones. I'm hoping the Infinium technology eases future tube changes and lets me know when it is needed. I will be using the amp at home so can't speak to its roadworthiness or relative loudness in a band setting. Worth checking!C-ville Brent

Got this as B stock, and since I repair amps, I took this amp apart and tested the tubes. The tubes are Tung Sol reissue copies and they sound great—let them break in first, give it about four or five months of intermittent use. You'll be very pleased with the results, I can tell you, the sound stage and head room are outstanding, the EL-34's positively purr! I had to remove the lead free solder from all of the tube sockets, as they turned out to be cold solder joints (ergo, why I got a deal on the amp, as a B stock customer return.) I used leaded solder and since I have been soldering for over 43 years of my life, the work turned out very nicely… Surprise! The amp sounded far, far better than it had originally, if you have the skills with solder wick and a soldering iron, give it a shot, you won't regret it!! 99% of the problems with these amps are simply due to the tube sockets being hand soldered incorrectly, the main board, which is wave soldered, is 100% perfect, even with the lead free solder used. The Fender to Marshall ISF pot works, interesting tones produced by this, you'll enjoy the results… The PC boards use surface mounted components, for the most part, so don't buy this amp thinking that you can modify it that easily, you can't and it really is not necessary, the amp sings fine, just as it is!ejmendoza

I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. As far as I'm concerned, Peavey doesn't have any customer support.crrkr

Been playing about a year, so my review is from the perspective of a complete newbie. The things I like- Lots of presets, mobile app functions, computer interface, and loads of user created effects available. Nice and loud, but no real basis of comparison to say if clarity is better or worse than other comparable amps. Don't likes- The micro-usb interface. I had to get an adapter and it's just not as good a connection as nearly anything else would be. IMHO, micro-usb is far too flimsy. Connecting to PC is far more problematic than just using the spider mobile app. It's probably a little more complicated than it should be for a beginner, but it's feature rich for the money.Nic T

I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. There's enough that if you work at it you can get a decent sound but there could be some better ones. Overall I would recommend the amp. Don't listen to the naysayers or the amp snobs, it's a quality amp and extremely versatile.Just Plain Joe

Where do I start? Well, how about, this is the best tube amp I have ever played! 62 years with many guitars and many amps, some owned, some borrowed, and some tested in music shops, might give me a little credibility. I have loved a Fender Twin Reverb, made in the 50s that my uncle Keith, and my guitar mentor, loaned me for a while. It just sounded so good. Never could seem to find cash, or justification to buy a tube amp, but have owned a hal a dozen solid states. THEN THIS LITTLE BEAUTY! Having played the Twin for a couple of years, and others such as a Mesa Boogie, VOX's, and too many others to recall, THIS monster sounds like most of them with just little tweaks of the knobs and my guitar switches. I have played country, 60s and 70s rock, blues, finger-style instrumentals, gospel, etc. I believe this is the PERFECT combo, with the correct (JJ) tubes, a sweet (and dirty when desired) Seventy/80 speaker, and an amazing diversity of sounds, which works in every genre I play! I do not know how anyone can find reason to bad mouth this. I had it for 2 weeks, was asked to fill an absent, guitarist's spot at an outdoor venue, I took this little amp. We played to an area the size of a football field. I set the amp on 1 Watt, until I could hear it cleanly (behind me on stage), let the sound man mic and mix me in. Never had to turn it above about 4, with gain between 1 and 4, and many complemented me on my sound, and musicians asked me WHAT IS THAT LITTLE AMP? Those are the good points. I can only think of two piddly things I would like to see changed, and one would be a standby switch, and the second being a way to run the external speaker WITHOUT cutting off the amp speaker. Until then, I will just keep playing this sweetheart amp, and enjoy the statements about "my sound," and the question of WHAT IS THAT LITTLE AMP? Keep playing everybody…and maybe buy one of these. These amps are fantastic, and at these bargain prices you simply can't go wrong. I upgraded the reverb tank in mine to a Mod and changed the speaker for a Warehouse GC12. OMG, this thing is a beast! Another WGS option I've seen people use is the ET65 for a more British tone, also with good results. The stock speaker is not too bad, but this one simple upgrade of swapping the speaker takes the amp to the next level. It just sounds awesome. The upgraded reverb tank is also an improvement, but not as much as I thought it would be. If I had to do it over again I would just take out the stock tank and use a pedal for reverb and make the amp even lighter to haul around. The more important upgrade imo is the speaker. It really makes a world of difference. Grab one reasonably while you still can, the price keeps creeping up and up and up… !Jeff

After a number of FEDEX issues, I received my amp about 5 days later than estimated. It did arrive in excellent condition and was worth the wait. The Stage Right 611815 has a really sweet tone that sounds particularly good with the single coil pickups on my Fender Sratocaster Player. It breaks up nicely! The reverb works perfectly, and is fine for most playing but you might want an external reverb unit if you are playing Dick Dale tunes. A really nice feature for home playing is the 15W/1W switch, where you can limit the amp to 1 W (be aware that with sound, you have to increase the wattage by 10 times to double the perceived volume, so the 1W setting is a lot more than 1/15th as loud as the 15W setting). It is a bit unusual to have a tone control along with the more common bass, middle and treble controls. Personally, I would have labeled the Tone control as Presence, because that is what it seems to be. I have mostly been playing in the 1W mode with all the controls (including reverb) at 12 o clock, and that is working out great. As far as construction, the amp looks fantastic and gives a vintage look that hints at its tone! The dark grill cloth provides a nice contrast with the blonde tolex, giving a true vintage appearance. The retro red, jeweled pilot light and metal toggle switch complement the vintage styling Keeping with the vintage look, the control panel is chrome with retro chicken head knobs. As others have mentioned, the control names are a little bit difficult to read on the chrome panel. After you use the controls once, you know where they are, so does it really matter (I noticed the blonde version of the Fender Blues Jr also uses a chrome control panel…probably where Monoprice got the idea)? The tolex is neatly installed and glued, at least the parts that are exposed. The leather handle is also reminiscent of old school amps. And I really like the metal corner protectors…very nice. As proudly announced by a badge on the front panel, the amp is equipped with a Celestion speaker…a Seventy 80 The only criticism of the construction, and it is minor, is that the 8 external screws are not chamfered properly to mesh with the finishing washers, which result in the screw heads protruding above the washers. The amp has a jack for an external speaker. When you plug in an external speaker, the internal speaker is shut off, as is common with guitar amps. The reason is if you plug in an external 8 ohm speaker and the internal speaker would still be on, a (combined) 4 ohm load would be presented to the amplifier, which it is not designed to handle. The back is open. The line cord is not detachable, but can be conveniently stowed in the back of the amp. The amp has an effects loop, which I have not tried yet. The amp is now equipped with JJ brand tubes and a metal, two spring, reverb tank, which are upgrades from the original issue I wish I could find a nice, economical (i.e. $20) dust cover for the amp. The only ones I can find are priced at $50 or more, a bit much for protecting an inexpensive amp. In conclusion, the Stage Right 611815 amp looks great and sounds great, and I highly recommend it.Chris
