I bought this axe about a week ago.This was not my first chioce,I mould have preferred a Harley benton nashville or a Fender malabu but 5hese are not made in Left-handed.The guitar is well made.Tuners are some of the best I've used.the built in preamp works well although the tuner takesI bit getting to grips with.This comes in lots of colours,but only in black for lefties.a better nut and bridge would have been nice,, but the plastic ones well cut and works fine.a good quality instrument that plays nice.i just love the headstock.Chrisie
Zugegeben: mein Steckenpferd sind die Klampfen mit Kabel, Verstärker etc…pipapo, für mich stellt die Talman nur ein Ersatz dar für die Momente in denen mal keine Steckdose zur Hand ist oder man die Nachbarn nicht über die Maßen verärgern möchte. Insofern wird sie nicht allzu oft genutzt und zum Tonabnehmersystem kann ich nur sagen: Stimmgerät passt, der Rest ist wahrscheinlich auch mehr vom Verstärker abhängig. Verarbeitet ist das gute Stück super, mehr hätte man aus dem was geboten ist nicht machen können, man darf nicht vergessen, für 239€ gibt es halt nicht gerade die edelsten Hölzer. Das macht sich dann auch ein wenig in der Optik bemerkbar, auch wenn es im einzelnen nichts zu bemängeln gibt, man sieht ihr einfach an, dass sie keine 600€ gekostet hat. Den Klang fine ich persönlich etwas dünn und blechern, was allerdings meinen ansprüchen eher entgegen kommt, ich wollte ja etwas mit dem ich den Nachbarn nicht auf den Wecker gehe. Fazit: wer nur, so wie ich, einen Ersatz sucht zum Üben wenn mal keine Steckdose greifbar ist, der ist hier goldrichtig, mehr muss man wirklich nicht ausgeben, aber den Neueinsteigern würde ich raten lieber ein bisschen mehr zu investieren, bevor einem der Klang den Spass am neuen Hobby nimmt.

SATISFIED BUYER has had this only three days now and after one eaay to do truss rod tightening, I got the action nice and low, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT!!! I usually sit and play solo electric guitar at gigs using a Godin 3 voice XTSA. But it is too valuable to take to open mics and got damaged once at an open mic. I have toyed around bought and sold about 5 low cost acoustics I found around here, but they all caused thumb joint pain and hand fatique. But the access to the 12 through 18 fret was alnost impossible. I play up the neck often, and this Ibanez Talman finally allows me to focus on the "playing" and not on muscle fatique or joint pain. The neck, sound and features are really outstanding considering the price. The neck is "suberb" for a $200 budget guitar. Although it has a small and thin body, and the volume is "less" than a teaching or jumbo I LIKE IT. It is easy to position comfortably while sitting or standing. Even the 15th fret and above is easy to access, it plays wonderfully.buzzura
Well let me start off by saying I have wanted one of these Talmans for quite awhile. I used to own a 2002 semi hollw gray sprkle that I miss playing. These are awesome unique guitars. so, in the last few days I have ended up with 2 of them. First off I bought a Blue sparkle one used for my wife. It's girlie and sparkly. Has nice gold hardware on it. Pretty well made for a "kiddie" looking guitar. Plays so so acoustic, which I already knew from past experiences playing one at my local store. After that purchase it helped me make up my mind, then I ordered a BRAND new one from here at musicians friend. This is my first new guitar as everything before now has been used. Sadly I am not impressed at all. It is not nearly as pretty as it appears in the photos. There is no gloss to it at all. You can feel the texture of the wood. The strings whatever they use suck and will need to be replaced even if by a cheap pack of Ernies. The neck and the frets are good so they don't need any real adjusting…yet. It does sound great plugged in. I played it thru my Kustom tuck n roll clean first off, but the real impression electric came thru my Peavey Vyper with some chorus and flange effects. It even rocks with some gain and light distortion. Let's give it a week of abuse before I give my real opinion, but so far I'm not impressed
This guitar arrived set up right out of the box. No truss adjustments necessary. String action at the second and twelfth frets spot on. The instrument is a perfect fit for me. The size is slightly smaller than a full size guitars but definitely not a toy. Great for travel with a thin neck which makes play ability a dream. Plug it in to an amplifier and the magic happens. Good for small venues and also practice. I had an issue with the electronics but Studio Gears solved it in a timely and professional manner. A thumbs up for the Ibanez Talman TCY10E & Studio Gears. Don't bother trying to beat the price. It can't be done.yabo51

Look, just wanted to reply to some reviews that say this guitar sounds well…..thin. Duh, yes its not a jumbo acoustic or even a regular body acoustic. Its a thinline acoustic so it sounds just like what it is. Ive played several thinline guitars and they all sound…well…thin. That doesnt mean its cheaply made or a bad sounding guitar. It has its own sound. If you want a deep bass, then buy a jumbo or regular acoustic. I like the easy neck movement. The chords sound fine and this guitar doesnt require anymore tuning than any other in this price range. I tried ten guitars at guitar center including more expensive brands like fender, mitchell, yamaha and others and this was the only one under 400 dollars that stayed in tune from an E chord to a C chord. I bought it because Ive owned Ibanez before and never regretted it. To each his own but keep in mind a thinline guitar is not going to have a deep rich sound, but, I record my bass along with it so it sounds fine. It is what it is…a nice thinline acoustic-electric guitar.Kjmmusician
After seeing some videos about this guitar and reading many reviews, I realised that it was a very good quality for the price!! This guitar is absolutely amazing, smooth, beautiful and the sound is truly beautiful, even better than I expected! I'm very satisfied! I live in Madeira Island and the product came relatively fast, for what I was very happy too!
I had been playing a very old and very nice acoustic at church for night service, and didn't want to subject it to the rigors of live playing on a regular basis. After some research, it came down to purchasing a Talman or a Stratacoustic. I went with the Talman due to the price, and Ibanez's reputation. When the guitar arrived, I was a little apprehensive as the neck felt awesome, but the setup was awful. The strings were heavy gauge, and were set way too high. After some work shaving down the bridge, changing to light strings, and adjusting the truss rod, this baby plays great! I love that the electronics are really easy to use, and it was made to plug in. The sound when you are practicing unplugged isn't as full or rich as you get with a full sized acoustic, but this guitar wasn't made for that – it was made to be plugged in. I was able to eliminate having to use pedals to get the proper volume and EQ, which makes the live rig way easier to set up and tear down. I play it through a Line 6 spider II 75 watt head running through a Marshall 4×12 cabinet. The spider's clean channel is great for acoustic as it does not color the tone, and the Marshall is plenty loud for a church sanctuary. Overall, I am quite happy with the Talman, even though I had to put in some extra work to get it the way I like my guitars. It is a steal at the price if you have the skills and are willing to play with the setup.Stratbuilder

I originally thought that as a multitalented Musician and singer songwriter and R&B JAZZ music Recording Artist. That the only acoustic electric guitar that would work for me was the RICK TURNER peanut styled Guitar. But needless to say…I am very surprised at the well constructed Ibanez acoustic electric guitar. It really does the trick. Yes it needed a truss rod adjustment when I first took it out of the box and observed the neck and checked the frets and string height. But other than that ? After a few minor tweeks.. it plays very well. I would like to thank the people at sweetwater for helping me with the order. And because it does have a limited lifetime warranty ? You cannot beat it for the cost. Now maybe I can get Ibanez or sweetwater to hook me up with a very cool deal I need a hard shell case for it. Hummm ? $ is out of my range at the moment. Not sure ..lol but I love this guitar.. looking forward to using it on my up and coming 2023 album release. Yeah it's all good babie….
Overall: A bit skeptical of it playing/sounding good, especially in this price range. My hopes were not high, but just to be ok as a couch guitar. Surprisingly this little baby sings! Exceeded my expectations by far! It has some minor imperfections, but it just sounds and plays amazing for this price! No set up required. Just tuned her up and started playing. For the price, you should not complain!

It is fantastic, it’s beautiful, sounds amazing (plugged in and acoustic), plays amazingly well, stays in tune, the tuners are smooth and work as you would expect on a much more expensive guitar. The neck is perfect, the action is great (Martin MA540 Authentic Acoustic Light strings 0.054-0.012). I haven’t a single complaint I can’t say whether the quality has gone up or down in the last few years. Mine is an earlier production model about 10 years old. They’re relatively common , You can find a nice used one locally in most cities for under $150. That way you can play and give it a thorough inspection before you buy it. I usually don't leave negative reviews. This guitar is beautiful, it sounds amazing. However, I just can't believe that guitar center would let this be shipped. The neck seems fine but every fret divider is razor sharp. It's so uncomfortable that I have quit playing it. Living in a small town it's very expensive to return stuff, so I guess it will just sit for now. To guitar centers credit, I have shopped there for many years and never been disappointed. But gee guys, why wouldn't you be checking this stuff? If I picked it off your wall I would never buy it unless you fixed it for me. Sorry but this sucksJohn
Tried out two of these at the local store looking for a first guitar for my son. Both sounded pretty good for the price point, but both had problems with the neck and really terrible frets. Terrible like not safe for children or unsuspecting adults – they both had sharp edges sticking out the whole length of the neck. Between that, some minor string buzz, a crazy high 9th fret on one, and iffy intonation on the other, it just didn't seem worth getting either of them. What's the point of getting a low priced guitar if you have to spend $100+ getting it worked over to make it playable? I suspect that the neck binding makes it difficult for the factory to really get the frets properly dressed and still pass cosmetic inspection. It may be I just had the bad luck to find the two worst examples of this model in the same store, but I suggest you move up notch in price range and you will be happier with what you get.triple.ratrider

I purchased this grade 3 scratch and, dent. I have purchased a few items this way and, a lot of dinero can be saved. It is just like a new guitar, there was a ding on the edge of the large bout, some of the finish had been broken and, a little bit of wood was gone but, not broken through. Fairly easy repair with some super glue, careful work on the spot, a little scraping of the glue after a few build up coats, some sanding with a very fine grit, polishing and, some buffing yeilded positive results. Well worth the small effort. Great playing and, sounding guitar. The Fishman electronics perform beautifully! Acousticly the Dred body puts out a lush full sound. I have a Breedlove concert with the same electronics, the sound is full, powerful and, comes through my Fishman Artist accurately and, full, no quacky piezo sound. I paid a lot more for my Breedlove but, this Mitchell is right there with it. Both excellent guitars. The main reason I purchased this Mitchell is because I was wanting a decent guitar as a backup that would not break the bank and, have all the goodies I was looking for and, this was it. I won't say what I paid but, it was a great deal and, with a little fixin I have a Great guitar! I would walk out on any stage and, perform with this instrument without any concerns. I will admit the Fishman electronics were a big selling point. I once owned a Taylor and, it was a beautiful guitar but, the electronics were sad. It went back to the store asap, it would not worked for me in a performance. Sorry Taylor. I would recommend this guitar to anyone, it's a tremendous buy and, a really nice guitar. For what it's worth I've been a musician for over 50yrs and, I know when something is good or not, it's just plain experience. I was looking for an inexpensive Acoustic Electric guitar with some quality. Wanting my cake and ear it to, well that's what I got! This guitar is really nice with excellent features that usually are not found in this pricerange. I purchased this as a scratch and dent, I have no problem with this because the instruments in this range are usually pretty decent with little or hardly any problems. This one had a small dent on the front large bout, a little super glue fill to level out the ding and, was good to go. For what it is – a very cheap, small, travel guitar, this is great. You'll need a strap as it doesn't sit high enough on your leg to be comfortable to play. Also – the action was high, but a bit of adjusting with a belt sander on the saddle and that came down well. The scale length is short, but plays OK – takes a bit of getting used to from my full-sized acoustics. Putting a capo on it and making chords further up the neck is tight, but OK. Sound is very good for a travel guitar of this size. This would be a great kids guitar or even for an adult beginner. I did put 11s on it – sounds a bit weaker, but is fine, and that's what I use on my other acoustics. I had a washburn rover before – this is better, though not as small, but worth the extra size, I think. I have a GS Mini, which is much better, but a good bit larger, and much more expensive. Tuner works good, haven't tried plugging it in yet. Bought this for the boat – seems pretty sturdy.Alexander
I bought this guitar because I have chronic pain and am a small lady and found that even smaller acoustic guitars are too big and bulky and unplayable. I like to play high up on the neck so wanted a cutaway and occasionally perform so having an electro-acoustic version means it ticks all the boxes. When play acoustically it does sound really tinny, there's not getting away from that. It also tends to be unbalanced toward the neck end, so I need a strap to keep it in place. But it is much more playable for practice and I am almost managing to play bar chords again. Not chance on a normal size guitar. It has a full fret board just smaller but not too small.Michelle S.
I ordered this for my pastors wife who wanted to learn a new instrument. She is tiny ( less that 5 ' tall) and a full size guitar would not fit her body type. I was shocked when the guitar came in. The photos on line do not do the finish justice. I was even more shocked when I played it. Most student guitars in this price point have horrible action. The set up on this from the factory was great. It was very easy to play and the sound was extremely good for a thin body acoustic . Then we plugged it in. I could not believe the sound quality of the electronics in this guitar. On Sunday, I pulled out after church and let the music team take turns with it. Everyone that played it raved about every aspect of this little guitar. The instrument also came with a quality gig bag. The material was thick, padding was good, the zippers and hardware appeared to by sturdy. Even more importantly, she loved the guitar. When I purchased mine I had it sent to my house. 5 days later and it comes in with busted knobs and I had to take it in for a refund. They had another in stock and I took it home. With a setup, this bass is WELL worth its price. The nut width isn't as narrow as I'd prefer, I'm more used to the size of the Jazz bass, but this still plays quite nicely for me. While taking inspiration from many classic instruments, the style manages to be unique, and the bass always gets compliments at shows. Controls are easy enough to become second nature quickly, pots turn nice and smooth, and the selector, treble, and bass knobs all have nice tactile notches at their halfway points which is incredibly helpful. The only reason I took off half a star is the angle of the output jack is just super awkward if you typically use right-angle cables, which I do, and only a little less awkward if you don't. Also, not a reason to avoid buying the bass, but it must be said, CHANGE STRINGS IMMEDIATELY!! This might be TMI, but the grooves in the stock strings would pull on my arm hairs EVERY TIME I rest my arm on the bass (and my mustache hairs when I'd give the bass a little kiss at night)
This beast of beauty is must have for people who like to play a bass with a different touch.. the touch is where it happens, it feels very good and it is very playable even for a guitarist like me, a real challenger this awesome Ibanez! the sound of the standard strings surprised me a lot! The sheer power tone and bizarre sustain almost too much.. it just keeps on going haha! The sound settings are all very noticeable adjustable and a good thing , i like the click in the middle of some pot settings so you know where they stand. it is a great help to create your sound. The six smooth twisting mechanics work like a dream, no play or other rattle is heard while playing this monster! I like it alot and i am very pleased with this beautifully build instrument.

I wanted a smaller acoustic electric thats a little better than a starter guitar, something I could enjoy as my skills grow, and keep for years; something I can play by the campfire on weekend trips and not worry about having to pamper it. I read many, many reviews and listened to experts on YouTube play and compare. I bought this Ibanez and have been really pleased. All the reviews were on target and there were no surprises. The factory strings arent terrific but deliver a decent sound; there is no manual or even a gig case that comes with the guitar, but I found the perfect sized used hard case on Letgo for $20 and a used starter amp as well. I am all set up for under $360. Dont spend good $ on new cases and accessories. There is a huge local market to tap into through Letgo and OfferUp. I didnt want to buy the guitar used since Im still a beginner and wanted to play right away and be able to return if not satisfied. I think I made a good choice. The sound is good, better than expected for a thin instrument on the non-amplified setting, and think it will only improve with usage and better strings, which is what many experts say. Amplified, the sound is crisp, clear and delivers as promised. Its a lovely guitar; the dark finish is deep and beautiful, not atall a factory look like the ubiquitous blonde Yamaha starter guitar of my youth. I am not crazy about the gold-look hardware, which I think cheapens the otherwise excellent quality of the build… but that can be upgraded to chrome if I still dislike it next year. (Ill make it a goal reward for myself when I reach my next skill level). Otherwise, the look and feel of my guitar is outstanding, and Im playing regularly (which is, after all, the mark of a successful guitar purchase, no?)caroly-98
I noticed, while shopping for this guitar, that there are a number of very similar models out there. Most were more expensive, with different woods and very subtle differences. But, what kept me coming back to the Ibanez was the sound plugged in. Nothing else, regardless of cost, sounded as realistic as this does. Light weight guitar that sounds pretty darn good with an amp. It boasts a rich beautiful color in the light with really nice detail. Pretty decent sound for a streamline guitar. Your not going to get a deep sound but this a great piece to travel and practice with. Having a built in tuner is awesome! Also has bass and treble controls. This might be TMI, but the grooves in the stock strings would pull on my arm hairs EVERY TIME I rest my arm on the bass (and my mustache hairs when I'd give the bass a little kiss at night)
This beast of beauty is must have for people who like to play a bass with a different touch.. the touch is where it happens, it feels very good and it is very playable even for a guitarist like me, a real challenger this awesome Ibanez! the sound of the standard strings surprised me a lot! The sheer power tone and bizarre sustain almost too much.. it just keeps on going haha! The sound settings are all very noticeable adjustable and a good thing , i like the click in the middle of some pot settings so you know where they stand. it is a great help to create your sound. The six smooth twisting mechanics work like a dream, no play or other rattle is heard while playing this monster! I like it alot and i am very pleased with this beautifully build instrument.

SATISFIED BUYER has had this only three days now and after one eaay to do truss rod tightening, I got the action nice and low, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT!!! I usually sit and play solo electric guitar at gigs using a Godin 3 voice XTSA. But it is too valuable to take to open mics and got damaged once at an open mic. I have toyed around bought and sold about 5 low cost acoustics I found around here, but they all caused thumb joint pain and hand fatique. But the access to the 12 through 18 fret was alnost impossible. I play up the neck often, and this Ibanez Talman finally allows me to focus on the "playing" and not on muscle fatique or joint pain. The neck, sound and features are really outstanding considering the price. The neck is "suberb" for a $200 budget guitar. Although it has a small and thin body, and the volume is "less" than a teaching or jumbo I LIKE IT. It is easy to position comfortably while sitting or standing. Even the 15th fret and above is easy to access, it plays wonderfully.buzzura
Well let me start off by saying I have wanted one of these Talmans for quite awhile. I used to own a 2002 semi hollw gray sprkle that I miss playing. These are awesome unique guitars. so, in the last few days I have ended up with 2 of them. First off I bought a Blue sparkle one used for my wife. It's girlie and sparkly. Has nice gold hardware on it. Pretty well made for a "kiddie" looking guitar. Plays so so acoustic, which I already knew from past experiences playing one at my local store. After that purchase it helped me make up my mind, then I ordered a BRAND new one from here at musicians friend. This is my first new guitar as everything before now has been used. Sadly I am not impressed at all. It is not nearly as pretty as it appears in the photos. There is no gloss to it at all. You can feel the texture of the wood. The strings whatever they use suck and will need to be replaced even if by a cheap pack of Ernies. The neck and the frets are good so they don't need any real adjusting…yet. It does sound great plugged in. I played it thru my Kustom tuck n roll clean first off, but the real impression electric came thru my Peavey Vyper with some chorus and flange effects. It even rocks with some gain and light distortion. Let's give it a week of abuse before I give my real opinion, but so far I'm not impressed
This guitar arrived set up right out of the box. No truss adjustments necessary. String action at the second and twelfth frets spot on. The instrument is a perfect fit for me. The size is slightly smaller than a full size guitars but definitely not a toy. Great for travel with a thin neck which makes play ability a dream. Plug it in to an amplifier and the magic happens. Good for small venues and also practice. I had an issue with the electronics but Studio Gears solved it in a timely and professional manner. A thumbs up for the Ibanez Talman TCY10E & Studio Gears. Been a drummer all my life and a studio producer over the last decade. I recently dove into learning guitar; electric, bass, acoustic, and classical. I wanted to explore the special sound you get from a 12 string. I have a Taylor 214 CE Dlx which sounds fantastic, so I base my acoustic ears off what I get from that guitar. I played everything I could get my hands on up to $1000. I was simply blown away with this Mitchell guitar's sound and playability. I have found that less expensive 12 strings can be pretty glassy sounding and typically lack low end. Not this guitar. It has a very pleasing airy sound that is warm and articulate. It is well balanced across all the frequencies to my ears. Most tops are sitka spruce, this is mahagony and seems to be what really helps set it apart. I had to ignore the "brand" name and just go with my ears and instinct The strings were broken in and it stays in tune very well. It was set up very nicely with low action and just easy to play and inspiring. The bridge was still fairly flat and not pulling up much at all, as can be typical with cheaper guitars that use young wood that still needs to dry out and settle. If it sounds, feels and plays good and inspires you to play more, than you can never go wrong with your choice. Sold…Drum Dood
I have tried this guitar in 2 Guitar Centers (Manchester, CT and New London, CT) when shopping for other reasons but I like to try the goods while I'm there. Point being, I keep going back to it. I've been thinking about adding a 12string to my arsenal. After trying other brands in higher price ranges I find myself enjoying the playability and sound more while in disbelief if its price point. As I read other people's reviews I have come to the conclusion that it's a must have. There is a sale right now on the thing so I'll be owning it within a couple hours. For practice, trying something new, playing out… I believe we have a winner. Nice job, Mitchell. P.s. I couldn't bring myself to add an official Con, honestly. This is my first 12 string after 36 yrs of playing. There are no issues to speak of with the guitar I received. Sounds and plays excellent. Looks are better in person. Honestly couldn't be more happy about this guitar. I mainly playing electric guitar, rock to metal, and not that big into acoustic. If you get one, I sincerely hope it's as nice as mine. This guitar is really beautiful compare to Yamaha expensive guitars. Despite the cheap price, it sounds as good as my 260$ electric-nylon one. One thing to mention is the 6th string goes out of tune very easily, i have to tune up my guitar every time before playing. So, make sure that you will always bring your tuner with you all time. Overall, this is a perfect guitar, and i am very happy with it. Best choice under 100$
So if you’re reading this because of my headline, let get that out of the way first. I’m a weirdo for liking that classical smell. It smells gooooood! As for playability, the guitar is very comfortable. Very easy to play. My only complaint is that a couple of the strings are not keeping tune. Maybe they’re just older strings? I received the guitar about a week to two weeks ago. The tuning issue was present upon receiving the product. I thought maybe the strings were just fresh and needing some breaking in but that’s not the case.Michael
I've played a number of Ibanez electric and acoustic guitars over the years, almost bought an Ibanez 12 string A/E guitar not too long ago. I've owned nylon strings before, but not for a long time. Never owned a "jazz box" before. However, over the past 4 yrs I got very serious about upping my jazz soloing skills; includingre-engineering my picking technique. All that was done om my LP Classic. Come last Xmas, I saw the great GB10EM offering on S/W anddecided it was an opportunity too good to miss. It was time to reward myself. I wasn't disappointed.Since this is a fairly inexpensive axe, my expectations weren't particularly high, despite all the good reviews on the Internet. At this price, I considered it an experiment. Normally, I would be very reluctant to buy online (sight unseen) but given the C19 pandemic and S/W's 55 point review, I felt it was worth the gamble. S/W didn't disappoint. The GB10 arrived in mint condition and, even though it's built in Indonesia, Ibanez QC holds there. The workmanship is absolutely impressive.Several features of the EM that sold me, over the (Chinese) SE, was the (1) color: I wasn't interested in yet more boring "burst" colors; especially blue, (2) body size and (3) shape: it's essentially a s Gibson LP shape with a 1.5" deeper body. The same applies to the neck dimensions. Most jazz boxes are much bigger and deeper. In fact, I would've paid the SE price for this color scheme if everything else were equal. My decision wasn't just based on price, per se. The EM is a complete bargain.All that said, my first attempts at playing it were a disaster. The feel and playability of the body with flatwouunds are so different from an LP that, at one point, I thought I'd made a huge mistake and eBay would be the next stop. I was so desparate that I even went down to a 0.43mm plectrum (paper thin). That did help and within a week it all started to come together and I was back to my usual medium 351 playing Benson's "Give Me the Night".Ever since then, I've completely fallen in love with this thing. I play it every day and I can't imagine a better new buy at this price. It's been incredibly helpful for my jazz guitar studies. Getting essentially the same sounds as Benson, or whoever, really helps make for faster progress.Something not addressed anywhere that I could find is, restringing with a moveable (free) bridge and that wooden tailpiece cover. Just last week I finally replaced the strings with D'Addario 11-50 flat chromes. And the answer is: the tailpiece is hinged and lifts up when all the strings are loosened or removed. The ball ends are slid in underneath. The bridge should be taped down so you don't lose the intonation.Another thing that bothered me a little bit when I first played it was, the frets felt a bit rough when bending the treble strings. Reading around the Internet, it seems this is just one of the hazards of buying a low-end guitar (labor costs of polishing?) but, it's easily fixed. In fact, it got better with playing but, noentheless, while replacing the strings, I took the opportunity to polish the frets with a Lizard Spit kit and F-ONE oiled the fretboard (all purchased via S/W). Easily fixed. So, don't fret. 🙂
With flat wound strings, 12-50, it feels better. Acoustic sound when plugged in but I think the floating pickups have something to do with that as the body is smaller than your average jazz box, very comfortable. The neck pup is excellent and while the bridge pup is just fine I only use it for the middle position. Neck pup is where it’s at. Slimmer neck in thickness and width, very fast and comfortable. Bought this 2013 model in late 2018 in like new pre-owned condition with Original Taylor hardshell for $600 shipped. It was listed at $1200 msrp in 2013 but available elsewhere new for $999. The 214ce replaced this discontinued model. Looks like it was played twice and stored until sold. More impressed with the aesthetics than I thought Id be. The rosewood layers are lovely, the top is crisp and the binding is solid. The neck is perfect for my smaller hands and the cutaway offers excellent access to squeeze out some extra notes. The electronics seem okay. I had lots of feedback on my first plugin but some adjustments will fix that, or maybe a soundhole plug. Other than that the sound and intonation is excellent, though the non-ampd volume isnt as loud as a GS or GA model. Fresh strings and a heavier primetone pick should help that. The original Taylor HS case was a nice surprise, $200 retail.copydoc
Overall: This is my 4th Taylor. Have to say , was disappointed with the set up. Super high action. I have bought (400, Guild and 500 Takamine with much better set up. Guild had just as nice soft case. Im still a Taylor guy, but this is not a 900 guitar. Maybe like 700. (My other Taylor's are 1993 410, 256ce, 814,ce and this one.
I love this guitar. The sound is bright and clear and it's so much fun to play. Excellent quality as well. Taylor make quality guitars at every price. I had a Martin D-18 and I liked this more. I know…sounds crazy, but it's true. I bought a Taylor 414ce because I liked this Taylor so much, but again…the 210ce was more fun to play. Go try this guitar. I was just moseying around the Cherry Hill, NJ store and I came across the Ibanez AC340OPN. I was amazed that it sounded better than some Martin's. This guitar Booms. I came back the next day and the sales personnel – who are excellent – fully accommodated me with a trade-in. I took this baby home, and man O man – I had an AC240 several years ago, but this model beats it by a mile. I love the 1.75" nut. I love the warmth of the sound. The scale is shorter than an OM – making it way more playable – it's so easy to play it's almost a joke. I would definitely recommend this to beginners, novices, and professionals.Dave M
This is a great guitar for $300. The tone and string clarity is amazing. Its a beautiful guitar with the open pore exposed mahogany. The tuners are not the greatest, but that is not the important thing. It sounds and plays awesome that is what matters. The tuners do hold a tune, but there are some "flat" spots in them. They do work a little better now that they are slightly broke in, but I think I will be changing those out. I will say its a keeper for sure. Prefect quality guitar from Ibanez as usual.Troy
