My husband loves this guitar. He has other guitars but for some reason always thought the Keith Urbab guitars would be a nice add to his collection. He has not used the learning tools but loves that they included a certificate and what number the guitar was out of the limited number made. He had to work on tuning it about week before it got right, but he loves the sound. He believes it is a great sounding guitar especially for the price.Tamara

The BAD: Right out the package I can see the Action is way to high, and I am Saddened that the Nut and Saddle are made of plastic ( Shame on you Keith) the strings from the factory would make good >Cheese Cutters< but are junk. So… after Lowering the action about a 1/4 inch replacing the Deplorable plastic Nut and Saddle with real bone ones and putting D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Light Strings on the Guitar>> We can Start. (Do it yourself cost for these fixes about30 Materials>>> to have Done I am guessing a set up and these up grades with $time$ work would be about $150 give or take) Ok The GOOD: 1.The Electronics on this Model are Awesome very Clear Very Strong and Very Natural sounding 10-out of 10. 2. the finish and Burst are also Very Nice Very appealing and Attractive looking and feeling 10-out of 10. 3. What you see (in my case) was a black Stratocaster knock-off and what I got was black Stratocaster knock. The quality is decent (downright great for the price). but of course, that means although the basic guitar is well mased the hardware and pickups are not of stellar quality. If you expected anything else you must be crazy. The guitar arrived in good shape … I put on new strings and straightened the neck, then checked the intonation which was good… This is an EXCELLECT beginner's electric guitar. I have been playing for 50 years and I bought this guitar to practice my guitar repair skills. I will pull all the frets and re-radius the neck then refret the guitar and perhaps replace the pickups. If you buy one of these, be sure have a luthier (guitar builder/repair person) set it up for you if you don't know how to do that for yourself. These are great low-end guitars but (like any other guitar) they do need a setup. I am old enough to remember all the bad ( as in almost unplayable) beginner's guitars from back in the day. Now with CNC machining the quality of the low-end guitar market has increased greatly and this guitar is the result. The beginner can now get a decent guitar at a decent price. Amazing shipping, Ordered 12/22, arrived 12/26, a SUNDAY, even in our historic supply chain crisis. If I'd known they'd be so fast, I'd have ordered a day or two sooner to have it here for the little ones on Christmas. Everything as expected, except not a trace of the blue burst shown on the website; just solid blue. Pretty color, seems well done, but lost a lot without the burst. The biggest problem is that the bridge (a 6-screw version) is mounted off-center towards the treble side. This means the bass strings are way in on the neck, and the treble strings are close to the edge. Also, they don't line up right with the pickups. (see photos). I hope that's not a problem, it'd be a real bear to fix, and given the automated production of a unit like this, a replacement would probably be the same. Neck has a satin finish, knobs all work smoothly, no scratchies, arranged as Volume, Neck Tone, Center Tone. The selector switch feels stiff but solid. Jack nut seems tight (always seems to be a weak point in electrics) but we'll see for how long. I like the block saddles. I doubt I'm going to gig with this one (I play upper-tier Strats mostly) but it seems like the perfect "bathroom guitar" or kids guitar, certainly better than the plywood crap I learned on. A great replacement for Squier Affinity that now costs $249 street. I wanted a guitar to tinker with, and I sure got one. New strings, tuners, pups… fun for me and the grandkids. I won't save money when it's all done, but the experience for me and them will be golden.New User

I bought this a little over a month ago, and I play it every day. I'm a beginning guitar player, and I'm happy with my purchase. The reviews I read prior to buying this varied: some said it was flawless, others found multiple problems. It appears that while it is an overall good value, the individual guitars may vary in quality. I haven't had a "set up" done on it yet, so I've been playing it just "out of the box" and I'm impressed with the sound and playability. Pros: Looks good. Sounds good. The little practice amp that came with it sounds very nice, and you're not gonna play a bar gig with it, but it's sufficient for practicing at home or even in a garage jam. It's built to upgrade over time, so you can easily customize it how you like. Cons (bearing in mind this is just "out of the box" with no setup): The frets are installed inconsistently. Some frets are flush to the edge of the fretboard, a few are a bit short of the edge, and others stick out past the edge, making it difficult and painful to slide your hands down the fretboard. (See the photo.) This doesn't seem to affect the sound. There's a light intonation issue on the higher strings: a perfectly tuned E on the open string gets to be a sharp E in the 12th fret (so it's about halfway between an E and an F), but this could probably be fixed with a proper set up. Very minor issue: the strap that comes with it is AWFUL. It's thin, it's itchy, it has no pick holders, and the slots to go into the buttons on the guitar don't lock well. Very minor issue: the gig bag is flimsy. Consistent with the reviews I read before buying this, it is definitely worth the money if you are a beginning guitar player or are looking to customize your own guitar over time. The sound is good out of the box and it's a great guitar that can grow with you as you grow as a musician. The quality of individual components (the finish, the frets, etc.) may vary a bit from item to item, which is to be expected at this price point.New User

Just got my guitar yesterday. Here are my thoughts. The packaging was decent and in the original Mitchell box. The guitar itself was in excellent condition and it was brand new. The piece is a beauty. It feels good only two issues. One is that the fret ends are a bit rough and second the truss rod cap was a bit loose. Other than that the guitar is beautiful. It plays very decent and I am a beginner so won't be able to give a very technical input.Numair

I have a few Mitchells, and none are bad guitars, though I have had to work on every single one of them, and this one was no exception. The guitar itself has a decent feel, and the pickups aren't horrible. I did have to do some big neck adjustments and file down some frets to get rid of fret buzz and dead frets. After some time working on it, I do enjoy playing it. It's really good for sitting around practicing if you want to save mileage on your more expensive guitars. I cannot say however that I would recommend this guitar unless you know how to work on it.Gorden

I bought this for my daughter and am experienced at guitars set ups. Out the the box its ok for a beginner. But Not for me. So I adjusted the neck and action. Intonation was way off. Neck adjusted easily. Action I was able to get to 1.75mm at 12th fret on low e with no fret buzz. Same as my ESP guitar. The guitar did intonate perfectly. Pickups are fine for a beginner. After a good set up I would play the guitar. Pickup is just ok. If you are a serious player then this guitar could be great as a beater. Proper set up. Vuy a used Seymore Duncan off ebay and throw in the bridge for cheap. Rough up paint and spray the finish with a can up duplicolor and clear coat it. Im considering getting one for myself and doing all of the above. I would have less than $200 in it. I guitar I keep on stand, not case and grab to play. If I ding it up I don't care. The neck was a little rough. I hit with 7000 grit paper and the neck is fast and good. Or if they lower price on other colors to $99 I might buy one of each color.dwsguitars

For the price, this guitar is awesome. The overall feel and look is outstanding, and the bridge pickup is clear and articulate (the neck is ok). The split coil sounds are chimey but not harsh and brittle which was surprising. No high frets, the nut is cut well for the strings, the tuners are pretty stable. Cosmetically the finish and general build quality is very good with some exceptions. Mine came with a crack in the veneer at the heel of the neck near the pickup. There are some pretty gnarly tool marks on the fret board and frets, but mostly on the higher ones which is pretty typical on something at this price point. there are some chips and what looks to be excess glue to where the nut is installed. Cosmetic stuff isn't THAT important to me, especially for lower priced instruments, although the crack in the veneer bummed me out so that contributes to taking away one star. What also is keeping it from being 5/5 is that the saddles could be a little more rounded off because the low E saddle has it's corner digging into your palm when muting, not painful just uncomfortable. Then finally I needed to add a shim because the angle of the neck was far too steep for me to get the action I wantedRuss

First off I was surprised with the overall quality although the tuners are it's weak point and should probably be changed unless the nut is causing the issue. Everything looks amazing and the sound is very impressive. The alnico neck pickup sounds beautiful. The bridge pickup does what you want to without a problem and overall sounds surprisingly great for rock and metal. The neck is very comfy thanks to those rolled edges and smooth roasted maple satin type finish and makes a big difference in the feel and comfort of the neck. This is a Fender Strat Killer. You get way more for the money and the overall attention to detail you just don't get with Fender unless you do it yourself. A little heavier than I would l would like it but an above average guitar in this price range.Doug

I’ll start with it out of the box. Please keep in mind this isn’t every guitar, just the one I paid for. The set up was pretty dreadful to be honest. I’m not sure if it was set up like that ready to ship, if it was sat in a warehouse like that before hand or if the shipment itself caused the major back bow. In either case, that caused a lot of fret buzz. A simple fix. I can’t fault it for being out of tune out of the box. The finish is great! A lovely, deep red that’s kinda sparkly. Very pretty… Apart from the tone knob which has dug into the guitar causing a scratch in the shape of a ring. The tone knob itself fell off after a day of having it (I think it’s quite funny as that happened to my 2015 ML1 after a few years). I imagine this being another issue caused by shipping. Fairly minor things for a guitar but not what I was expecting from one purchased brand new. I was really looking forward to loving this guitar but it seems somebody somewhere along the way didn’t put the care in to it. Next I want to talk about feel because that’s the thing you can’t understand until you’ve got it in your hands. It’s incredibly resonant and you can feel the guitar vibrate through your hands just like my Korean ML1. The neck is fairly thick, I like that. Some people don’t but that’s not the guitars fault. It feels like the Korean ML1 I mentioned earlier, just a little longer because of the scale length. The neck itself could do with being 5mm wider across to accommodate for the over crowned fret ends, leaving almost no room for the low B string to be fretted. Thus making it far too easy to pull (what would be the high and low E strings) off from the fretboard. I think that may be a flaw in the overall design of this guitar, particularly if you think about the floppiness of the strings even if they weren’t horribly down tuned. The fretboard looks much better in person and feels like an ebony fretboard [insert happy face] The frets are slightly dull and more importantly, heavily over crowned which makes it difficult to play those thick chuggy riffs we all know and love. Functionality: The locking tuners would’ve been a great addition to this guitar if they kept the guitar in tune. I might be going a little hard on this point but staying in tune is a vital part of any guitar and this one isn’t great at keep itself in tune. The pickups are ok, I love the ability to coil split and get some lighter tones out of a guitar. I’ve found myself spending more time with the coil split and it’s lovely. The full humbuckers just don’t have the bollocks they need. I would’ve preferred a HS or HSS set up but that’s a me thing and no fault of the guitar.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I purchased this guitar when it was $95 off full price. So that kind of makes it a worthwhile purchase. Definitely not worth full price in my opinion. Poorly packed with insufficient padding in the box allowed two of the strings to be bent during shipping. I assume this happened during shipping. They wouldnt send bent strings right? Thankfully they provided back up strings… The nut is very poorly crafted. You can visibly see burrs and imperfections in the nut that cause the strings to ring out of tune on certain parts of the fret board even after tuning. The pick-up selector nob fell right off first time I adjusted it. I will have to glue it myself. When the notes do play out true the triple pick ups sound better than the Peavy beginner guitar I used to have– Which only had two pickups and came in a similar starter package but was about half the price as this guitar. I think if I research how to fix some of the issues I can make it playable. But this guitar is far from playable out of the box. Fairly poor quality control.Cody

I was looking forward to ordering this as my first guitar after taking some classes a couple years back. The shipping was remarkably fast–however, when the product arrived the amp was completely broken. Upon plugging the guitar into the amp and strumming, it would make a horrendous scratching, broken sound. Plucking strings has the exact same effect, and occasionally the amp will cut off after a second of playing. I've tried adjusting the dials, turning overdrive on and off, I even bought a new cord thinking that was the issue to no avail. To make matters worse I have called the customer support number multiple times asking if I could recieve a partial refund, or ship back the amp for a functioning replacement–every time I'm left on hold before the call disconnects, if I can even get through to begin with. The only reason this isn't a one star review is that the guitar itself works fine and looks beautiful! I wouldn't reccomend buying the full set if they don't bother to make sure one of the most essential parts is functioning before shipping however.James B.

I worked outside for my father for a good many weeks while the guitar was on sale, and when I got it, I had mixed emotions. After a few days, the gig bag started to rip and now theres a big hole in it. Its still usable, but it isnt really well made. Also the bag isnt really protective. Its more decorative. The strings on it and the other ones were both junk, my local guitar shop guy told me that himself, but strings are moderately priced, and most of the time they last a while, so thats not much of a deal. The amp is lower end, and the cable that plugs into the amp and the guitar started to show copper wire around 2 weeks after purchase. It still works, but it should have lasted longer. And the stand on the amp didnt hold up at all, the plastic on it broke and now it wont angle so the sound comes at your face. But other than that its a good purchase, i would just suggest to just buy the guitar alone, and buy the amp separately, instead of the kit, but that may get expensive, so check out those options and compare them to this product and decide for yourself. My local guitar shop guy told me that the guitar itself is great quality though, but there are more expensive guitars out there, its a great guitar to start out with. Another side note, not relating to the quality of the guitar, but for beginners, how to learn how to play it fast. I suggest buying Rocksmith 2014 with this for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and other game consoles. Although it is expensive, the cable that comes with it counts as $20 dollars of it, and it actually surprisingly works! I started playing the game in late june or early july this year and I learned pretty quickly, to the point where I am now thinking about combining lessons and the game together to speed up the learning process even faster. I own several cigar box guitars – some I built – some I bought – usually fretted four strings that I mando tune. I wanted a three string for slide – I liked that this had a disk with a slide technique lesson. I was more than pleased – as an instrument, it's as good as most any CBG – they are all pretty crude at best. This one was easy to assemble – holds tune – sounds good acoustic or electric. There were some comments on it not using an actual cigar box, but a factory-made stylized resonator box. While this is true, it is at least as good as a cigar box, and I can understand why they broke that way for consistency and ease of build (which as I said, was super easy). Aesthetically, most people would probably prefer a real cigar box, but come on – it's like a uke – cheesy is part of the shtick. The lesson is good – play along CD and a book – comes with a good glass slide. I recommend it – worth the list price – all the better with the discounts.JoeFromSD

This is a great way to learn slide guitar. It is small & easy to learn. The book is full of great info. The CD is great, with back tracks, A tuning track so you do not need to buy a tuner, as long as you have something to play the CD in. It would be a good idea to buy a cheep tuner. As far as the price you just can't beat it. You can buy one for any wear from under $20.00 to $59.95. you just have to look around for a good price. Even at $30.00 to $ 40.00 is well worth it. The sound of the guitar very good and a small amp helps the sound but is not a must. Also you can take this any ware. In all this is a great product and was well thought out. I wanted a three string cigar box guitar and between a black friday discount and backstage pass points, I couldn't pass this up. Some reviewers complain that it's cardboard but domestic cigar boxes are predominantly cardboard. Also, Fender recently built a cardboard Strat that couldn't be told from a "real" Strat in a blind test. Build time was about ten minutes. I ran the strings around the tuners contrary to the directions so the string paths were straight. Sounds great acoustic and also great amplified. The only thing lacking is markers on the side of the neck. Maybe not sturdy enough for roughneck kids but a good introduction to the cigar box genre. Nice slide included.Mike

This guitar is awesome because it is beautiful, lightweight, and comes with everything you need to start learning right away. I love the app that you can download when you get this guitar. The lessons are short so you do not have to spend all day playing, and the apps functionality works very well for giving feedback on whether or not you played chords correctly. In the past, I used random YouTube videos to help teach myself how to play guitar. This app is so much better and really allows the learner to go at their own pace. Although I do have experience with learning guitar in the past, I would still consider myself a beginner. The guitar I had learned on previously was more difficult than the Urban Guitar. The fact that the strings are closer to the frets and that there is a cut out to more easily reach the higher frets Are two great factors to consider when purchasing this guitar for somebody who is just learning.LaurenLouise50

This guitar sounds good enough but unless you're a die hard Kieth Urban fan, you can get something better for the same price point. It's very light and honestly feels a bit cheap compared to some of my older (still lower end) guitars. It's easy to tune but doesn't like to hold it as well as others – probably due to the cheaper hardware. It feels good to play but I would do better with a slightly fatter neck due to my wide fingers. The teaching app is a nice touch, but isn't anything more than you can find for free online. One thing to note is if you open the box from the wrong end as I did, you might think they forgot all the accessories. They are hidden in a small box that is extremely hard to see if you open the wrong end.Matrim

While I have only owned the guitar/training package for a little over a month, I am blown away by the quality of the guitar, and workmanship and training design with the training application. Since I was young (now in my mid-30's) I tried picking up learning the guitar every few years, as I was lucky enough to have other guitars in my possession over time. However each time, I tried self-learning, and failed. Partially because of my own reasons, but also because of how the online resources tried to train. The Urban Guitar package has put that concern behind me. First, the guitar is a work of art. It is gorgeous, and also sounds amazing for the price range. Even friends who are career musicians are amazed by how great the guitar sounds! As for the training app, it goes at the perfect pace to allow you to learn about the guitar, and to step through the process. The best thing about the app in my opinion is that it not only speaks in layman terms, but it also feels as if they're right in front of you taking you through it. This guitar is the perfect size for my 8,7, and 6 year old. Look wise, it doesn't appear to be cheaply made and it doesn't sound like it either. My first impressions were that this isn't really some cheap toy guitar. It is defintely a real guitar but kid sized. The amp is mini but I am still impressed with the sound because I honestly wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it is. This guitar definitely delivered everything that was advertised. My 9 yr old grand daughter has long expressed an interest in learning to play guitar, like Omi does. My electric was a little big for her to deal with, and the acoustic I bought her to learn on was not as exciting, in her eyes. This is the answer, it is small enough for her to use while still being large enough for me to use. The sound is solid. She is excited to practice. Aesthetically the look is great! It was an instant favorite Christmas gift. Unfortunately shortly after unboxing, we discovered that no power cord was included for the amp. We were able to use one we had lying around the house, but the amp worked for all of 10 minutes and then never worked again. Nice, quick and reliable as always. Ordered the guitar one night, had it despatched the next day and arrived the day after looking just as perfect as you’d expect. The only criticism (if any) I’d give is that it would be nice if PMT would set up their guitars. It’s the one stage where many online shops fall short and their prices are no cheaper online vs in-store where as in store you may be able to negotiate the guitar be setup. PMT are not a shop who just happens to sell guitars, at one time your name stood for professional music technology and now it stands for play music today. Looks gorgeous, sounds great and is really fun to play. Incredibly high quality finish for a budget guitar. Nut is OK and frets are well finished, tuners are functional but have no issues and tuning stability is generally good for a Bigsby fitted guitar. Even only needed minimal set up out of the box. Holds its own against the cheaper US Gibson and Fenders for build quality and with a few setup tweaks and a couple of minor upgrades to the B50 for sustain it will be a great guitar. I ordered the candy magenta Hot Rod 6120 and WHAT a guitar. It came perfectly setup, and sounding great right out of the box. The pickups are perfectly balanced, and she’s stays in tune like a champ. It's hard to explain to a 5 year old why, after following the daily items (tune your guitar, practice some chords etc.) they don't get the points for completion. As a software engineer, I fail to see why it's okay to leave this basic functionality broken. Furthermore, the app appears to be abandonware. I see no updates or fixes. The 'Games' section has been 'coming soon' for months. The app should be removed from the site as a selling point, since it is basically broken. Just be aware when you buy this guitar, the app is not going to work.Ben

My 6 year old really loves the thing. She strums it and goes to it often without prompt. She can’t really get her fingers down onto the fretboard to play a chord, but she knows that those cards are instructions. She carries them around and tries playing them with the guitar on a flat surface. She also still doesn’t have a great sense of the guitar as an instrument, that’s to be taken care of, and not banged around like a toy. I think by the time she’s 8, this thing will be perfect for her. If you guys made something a little more towards the toddler end of the spectrum, I’d pick it up in a heartbeat. I understand and greatly appreciate that you’ve scaled down a real electric guitar. Phenomenal concept. Greatly happy with it. If there was something a little more durable, and a little easier for little fingers to hold the notes, I’d pick that up for sure. Great idea, great product, pretty nice app.James C.

Bought a Loog mini for my 9y old. He seems to like Guitar and I can play a bit , but whenever we tried on my Ovation he got very frustrated. Heard about the Loog 3 string and it made sense to me. Well my some loves it!! He’s learned the basic chords now because hit little hand can actually get around the fret board and he is so excited! As I’d dad, I’m I admit – this is a really well made guitar and I love messing with it !!John S.

We wanted to love our Loog, but there was an issue with the speaker that Loog didn't have a fix for. We were forced to return it because they didn't have any replacements in stock. I swear I bought the Loog mini for my daughter even though I find myself playing it quite often. The build quality is great. It doesn’t feel like a toy at all. This is a real and respectable instrument. I love that it’s half a guitar in both size and construct—so she can graduate from 3 strings to 6 eventually. Really nice work. The neck has a great feel. The pickups are decent starters. The tuners are decent as well. The tune-omatic is inexpensive. The neck did have sharp edges. Upon arrival the strings were loose and the neck was straight. The action was high. Lowered the action and tuned with original strings and relief was spot on 0.010". There were two strings, G and B, at the bridge that buzzed. Three tuners need tightening. Three frets were barely high in one spot each. Pickup switch is solid, and action of pots great. Replaced strings and smoothed B and G saddles. Removed high spots on frets. Tightened all nuts. Lightly sanded neck for extra smooth action. Plays better than most inexpensive guitars I have. Not 5 stars because of buzzing, which may be beyond a student to fix. Beautiful finish. Lightweight and rests easy when playing. Room in electronic cavity for modding.New User

I buy inexpensive instruments as "projects" that can occupy my time. I enjoy being an armature luthier and assume that there will be issues that need correction. In this case, I was please (and yet disappointed) to find there was nothing, of significance, wrong with this instrument. All that was needed was a, mild, intonation adjustment. Otherwise, the tone is good, it plays well, the neck is comfortable and the frets are well dressed. Even the gig bag is nice. Further, I missed the sale price. on this guitar. by three days. My order had not even shipped when the sale took effect. I appealed and Monoprice was generous enough to extend the $25 credit. This is, actually, a good guitar at $120 and a really good guitar at $95. As a project, I may change the color to white with black hardware to match since I feel the instrument is worth the investment, but it is a definite "player" as it sits.Kimberly

At a price of $106.00 it is a nice guitar. I assemble and upgrade guitars as a hobby, so minor issues are not a problem. Pros : Nice dark blue color . Maple neck feels and looks really nice. This neck is about 43mm wide at the nut and the fretboard is flat like a LP. 12 inch radius , I think. Basically a C shaped neck. Pickups sound fine. Cons : Needs a set up. The strings buzz slightly. The fret ends are sharp and need attention. Not hard to fix and is commonly found on budget guitars. I'm going to replace the tuners and the nut with a bone nut blank and file it myself. Overall a good instrument at this price.New User

My 5 year old son received this electric guitar for Christmas 2019 and still loves it. Of course we are selective when he uses it because it's an instrument and he gets a little loud. My niece that is older than my son tried his electric guitar during the summer and I just had to order another one because she loved it so much that she wants one for Christmas 2020. I appreciate that everything fits right in the bag (even the amp) so that nothing gets lost and it keeps organized. For the price it's a wonderful starter kit for your little musician. My Son Joseph took who is now 4 yrs old has always had a blast strumming his toy acoustic guitar and pretending his a Little Rock Star ever since he was 2. Ok this instrument set is very well built and totally has some unexpected features I didn’t expect. First the piano is great and has different modes and a recording function with a built in microphone that is pretty decent. The guitar is the star very responsive and kid fun. My little guy loves to rock out with this guitar. Small enough for him to hold easily- which is good because the shoulder strap pops off too easily. Lots of buttons and various ways to play. Plenty of sound options. He does wish it had strings, even if they didn't make a sound. The lights on the neck sends it over the top in being cool. Great buy!Sara

This is so much better than expected. The tube running down the neck is lights. The whammy bar plays a sound. And there are several options for different types of musical sounds. It is not as annoying as a worried it would be buying it online. The only thing that feels cheap is the strap but my daughter didn't want to use that anyway.jelatay
