Keith Richards 5 String Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

Out of the box it is a very attractive piece but getting it to tune is impossible. The neck bends, the springs flex, the upper point shape digs into your arm, the machine heads don't fine-tune and wont hold. The volume knob is too close to the playing area causing sudden volume changes when it's bumped while playing, the frets are too high causing the strings to bend when making even the simplest of chords causing a de-tuned sound, the Floyd Rose mechanism is made of too light and flimsy springs and machine parts to be stable. Thirty seconds of hearing this thing play would make anybody switch the station. Otherwise it is very attractive and has a nice gloss finish. The intonation is a joke. I tried everything – relocating the neck, locking the Floyd solid, hours of work . It did improve slightly but the neck bends while tuning making it impossible to get anything other than a noise maker and something you could hang on your wall for show. Since I made so many modifications in an attempt to make the thing even usable I now am unable to return it. I might be able to use the pots for another project but the rest of it is junk. I would try and get the seller to buy it back but even I wouldn't want it back so I'm sure they wont accept it. After I re-work a guitar it usually worth several thousand dollars. I spent the equivalent of $5,000.00 worth of labor on this thing and it is still worthless.

I have been playing for over 50 years and have had many basses , over 60, now down to about 20. This bass I have had for three years and it is my no. 2 bass, The best way to review it is to compare it to my main bass, a Peavey Cirrus 5 Maple top. First of all, if you are talking value for the dolla, the Shecter can't be beat- ( Korea vs USA made Cirrus) . I love the fret markers offset on the Stilletto, the Cirrus doesn't have any, So with stage lighting, the Stiletto has an edge. The Peavey wins finish wise with real gold plated bridge and machines and a nicer glossy finish not counting the neck which I wet sand. The Peavey has a double truss rod and I am not sure on the Stiletto. The Stiletto finish is thin, but that doesn't bother me at all , I paid a third of the Peavey price and the Cirrus is a true high end bargain comparable to typical 1500 to 3500 dollar basses. American Cirrus are 900 to 1800 used. I find few players truly objective or even qualified to judge bass guitars. Most guys are creaming over their Fenders of Rickenbackers, or some version of a jazz with a bolt-on. Finally sound: the Peavey design pickups are better than the EMGs, but remember , I have not found or tried a better pickup at any price. With that being said , I love the EMGs . not fair comparing the radius topped Peaves to flat top anything. I have only been able to notice the difference over a year or so.

Great fit and finish. Playability is superb. Tone is good. Only thing I noticed was neck pickup volume was noticeably different than bride (alot quieter)

It's almost a perfect guitar because of my right arm (almost near my elbow) is hitting the sharp edge of the guitar body so it's uncomfortable. I have to either hug the guitar very close to my chest or in standing position with my arm almost stretched straight other wide the opposite side of the top horn just above the bridge is too flat and uncomfortable. Tune is #1 HC and the rest of the strings turned as normal 4 string bass, some what like in-between the 6 string with #1 HC and #6 low B. In-between the pick-ups there is a block of wood or plastic matched with body color and I use it as my thumb rest but when I strum and pick with finger, it makes noise. Just don't hit that thing. Shiny finish could have done better but over all it's well made, sounds good and looks good too. Other things I like about this Bass Guitar is the Bridge can be adjusted as much as +- 1.5 mm to the left or to the right so you can make all 5 string set further apart or set it close together. One last thing I like is that it has extra frat in between the first frat and the nut so that prevents (little) frat buzz. I had the neck set as straight as table top and no frat buzz at all. Although I didn't like few things but it's a good bass guitar and I like playing it!

Overall: I'll admit, this was a what I'll call an educated impulse buy. In other words, I wasn't looking to buy anything new. Bur, I saw a review video in my YT recommended, with some hyperbolic title. That put it on my radar. Thus it was an impulse buy of sorts.That said, I had researched in the past the non USA made Sterling brand from Ernie Ball Music Man. I once had a MIA Ernie Ball Music Man. It was bar none, the best Guitar I have owned. But when I had to get a bunch of cash fast, a while ago, I sold it. I got almost what I paid new, back. SO, when back from that setback, I looked at their budget line.But they WERE made in China, which I have a thing against, so passed back then. But, from that video, I found they moved their manufacture to the Cor-tek factory in Indonesia. AND, the 2021 new models have a lot of nice features for sub $500 guitars.Overall, this is a really good guitar. It wasn't perfect, as delivered, though that was Sterling's bad, not zZounds. Most notably, the jack plate was installed slightly crooked. There was also the tiniest bit of not roughness, but, not as smooth as the rest, area of neck near the joint. It was barely perceptible, but was perceptible. A minute or 2 with the finest grade fret eraser, then Ernie Ball Fret Conditioner, for roasted maple necks, and no more Though the action was setup OOB fine, usual height you get from a factory setup. But, I like it a little lower. So out with the fret rocker. Yep 3 of the top 5 upper frets were the tiniest high.10-15 minutes of using fret sanding tool, and fret erasers and no moreK, bad out of the way, what was good?Rest of the fit and finish was perfect. The bridge and trem is really high quality. Tuners, are better than most Asian made guitars I have gotten. Rolled fret ends, and overall fret dressing was great and smooth. Pots feel very smooth. Taper is actually pretty good. As good as top notch Bournes, etc? No, but about as good as stock from anyone. Switch feels solid. Uses mini pots. But, they are top quality minis.Setup, as far as intonation goes, was perfect. So was neck relief. Nut cut perfectly/Pickups sound really good. The 2 single coil are surprisingly good sounding. With the shielded cavity, they are darn quiet too. The Bridge Humbucker is decent. It's matched well with the 2 SS pups. BUT, I'm not 100% sold on it yet. But, I'll give it some time first. They all read out as vintage output. I can easily see the stock staying on all around, and being perfectly happy with them.Holds rock solid tune. Part great trem, part great cut nut, part MM design on headstock and string path,The neck is a joy to play. Close to a 59 LP type, but it is thicker on the base side, more like slim taper on other. moves more to a C shape at 12th, but still thicker on bass. Satin Roasted maple is just NICE.Overall, It is every bit as good (once I reset the jack) as the MIM Strats I have, or have had, the Squier CVs I have had, the Asian PRS I have played..So, for the price, this is an excellent guitar. The jack is easily fixed. I've got guitars costing twice as much that this is equal quality to and I usually replace the pickups on those, and at worst will only the Bridge HB on this CT50 (and might not).

I loved the look of an open pore body and I had researched Michael Kelly basses and took a chance. This is a good bass and when in active mode it has a lot of volume. This is the ONLY bass out of 20 in my collection that came without a nine volt battery and out of the box did not work as a result. The tone is extremely flat and the active EQ does not really add or take away hi or low end in a noticeable fashion. There is no pick guard and the hardware is a little on the "cheap" looking side. Two of the four knobs were not turning correctly and had to be taken off and re-set . I have since bought the Michael Kelly Element 4 vintage bass and it is night and day better than the open pore. This is a "good" bass and looks nice in my collection. I have basses that cost less and sound better.
