I don't know what it is about these strings (components, care of manufacture), but they seem to really lay flat on the board, and I mean that in a good way. I have already admitted that my classical technique really blows, but when I try to bear down on the lower strings, the heavier wound strings almost seem to "roll" under my stupid sausage fingers. Not so these guys. Very pleasant sound and feel, I may have switched brands to Augustine Blacks. And did I mention Segovia's picture is on the label?…E. T.

Balanced tension strings aren't mysterious: they're the exact same as other strings, except that the gauges are chosen by progressive pounds of tension instead of just the thickness of the gauge. A string from a set that is balanced doesn't feel too sloppy or too stiff relative to its neighbors. I like these a lot and sometimes make my own sets with a tension chart and by buying singles. This 11 set is standard excellent D'addario quality but is a little heaver than normal to balance it, so I think I'll go back to the 10 set of these once the two I bought need changing and I'm buying a balanced set off the rack. I normally play 10-46 sets but I put these slightly heavier strings on my Jazzmaster and Jaguar. If you have one of these guitars you'll know why. The balanced tension set makes a real difference to the playability. Definitely worth a try.Mike H.

I had purchased these to test and move from light gauge. I'm very pleased with the sound because, in my opinion, there is more crisp and tone than the light gauge! I will stick with medium for my electric from now on! I totally recommend these for anyone who may be wanting to test different gauge tones as I have done! I play lots of Albinez, Tarrega and Bach concert level pieces. I am a huge Yairi fan and own a 1975 CY120. The tone of this guitar with regular nylon strings is rich and warm, if perhaps a bit dark. I was looking for a string to brighten up the trebles a bit and wanted to try fluorocarbon strings. These Savarez strings did the trick perfectly and now the trebles sparkle and the deep bass is more articulated and distinct. If you own a guitar you would consider "dark" sounding, this is the perfect string to brighten it up. Might not be the best set if your guitar is a bit thin sounding. My family hears my daily practice and everyone commented on the much improved beautiful tone these strings gave my beloved vintage Yairi.Kim

I have a love/hate relationship with these strings. First of all, they are LOUD! Equipping a concert instrument with these will (finally!) give a player a fighting chance of matching the projection of our arco cousins. But beyond volume, the tone is simply incredible; beautiful and complex. The basses have tremendous layers of harmonics that compliment their strong fundamentals, and their even tension means intonation is quite good up the neck. The treble strings are what give the product its name, though, Made from a sugarcane polymer (a bio-derived polyethylene), the trebles each carry their own personality. Uniformity was apparently not the goal here- and that is not a complaint! The 3rd (G) string is shockingly clear and vibrant- far superior to the lifelessness tone usually attributed to this string in their nylon and carbon varieties. You will definitely want to re-voice melodic material to exploit this clarity (and welcome the reduction in position shifting). The 2nd (B) string shares the 3rd's clarity, and matches well while giving the notes a noticeably lighter personality. The 1st (E) string can be a bit temperamental; even a small kink introduced when stringing will keep the string from ringing clear and introduce profound ghost harmonics. But assuming stringing goes perfectly, the 1st string rewards with a snappy and percussive character that sacrifices a touch of sustain for vibrancy, as well as effortless, vocal-like vibrato. But alas, nothing is perfect. While I already mentioned the fragility of the 1st string, it must be noted that all the strings in this set are incredibly soft (in terms of their resistance to wear) and unless you are playing on perfectly smooth and polished frets, you can expect de-lamination of the basses to occur within a month, and noticeable wear on the trebles as well. Granted, this may be a symptom of the unfortunate trend to use (ghastly!) stainless steel frets on modern instruments as opposed to more traditional materials, so if you have frets made of softer metal (e.g., nickel/copper) this may be a non issue. But the greatest issue with these strings is, without doubt, the dreaded "squeak." Yes, the trebles squeak terribly while they are settling in, and sometimes even longer. This can be mitigated to an extent by constant playing and using hand lotion. Some players have suggested using very gentle buffing of the strings (1000 grit or higher sand paper) in order to remove the squeak, but given the fragility of the 1st string, this requires great caution. Buffing the strings does, however, improve purchase of the fingers, which is another area where this string set has shortcomings. Appoyando feels very slick- perhaps too slick!- and does take some adjusting not to over articulate. Tirando is fine up to a point, but considering the aforementioned lack of finger purchase, this could make faster passages impossible without conditioning the strings (not to mention immaculate fingernail grooming). But alas, the tone is the thing! If you are willing to treat these strings with far more care and consideration than a typical nylon or carbon set (venturing into the same gnatty level of detail and ritual usually reserved for authentic gut) you will be rewarded with a richness and variety of tone unmatched by other sets. Particularly, the profound variation from sul tasto to sul pont. is profound; even a slight change in positioning will reveal new colors. Pair that with the individual characteristics of the treble strings, and you get a set of strings that rewards the diligent player willing to explore where they can take their music.Mason L.

I raise the issue of product description, which is not good. What's the difference between these strings and standard D'addario NYXL's – not very clear. What exactly is "balanced tension?" Not described very well. Retailers should be offering advice and information to customers who may want a change but don't know which to choose. Having said that, these strings are "very good" with good all round sound with a smooth tone. Are they any better that standard NYXL's – don't really know.John A.

I've used D'Addario for years but I've always had to change them before every gig (acid sweat I'm afraid… yuk). You know what I mean. Even after wiping the strings down, same thing… corrosion. No corrosion with these though, must be a new alloy. NYXLs last me at least 5 gigs and that includes a couple of hours practise every day. I bottled out before the last gig and changed them but not before I deliberately tried to break them with a few 2 and 2.5 step bends and they didn't. The tuning stability is excellent with very little break in time. OK they don't sound as 'zingy' after a couple of days but I can live with that and yes they are twice the price of regular XLs but if they last 5 times as long then I don't care, I'm quids in!gingoblin

These are some of the best guitar strings I have purchased. They last for awhile unlike the other name brand strings. The sound they produce is amazing. I have been using these normal tension strings for my small acoustic guitar for several years now. They have a really smooth and resonant sound with my guitar and are very responsive for at least a few months of regular playing. I really like their sound in combination even with my small guitar, so I can only imagine the quality of sound they'll help produce on a larger guitar. This is a nice package set of guitar strings. You get ten sets in one box. that makes it so nice to not have to keep buying them so often. I really like how they packaged these guitar strings. the outer box is smaller than you would think for ten sets of guitar strings. But instead of having each set of guitar strings in another box individually, they have each set of guitar strings in its own bag, that is sealed. Made it easier to find a place to store the extra guitar strings for when I need them next. Was easier to stow an extra set in my guitar case since it was not in a stiff box, but in a sealed bag instead. I like how the guitar strings are color coded on the package and the string. It made restringing so much easier to do. Just had to look to f the color string end for the specific string I was doing. Makes it easier for novice guitar stringers. Not having to guess is nice. These D'Addario EXL110-3D strings are great! They are bit heavier than the 'slinkys' that my son usually uses, but he really likes these too. They go on easy, and seem strong. They sound amazing! My son has 1 of the 3 sets on his strat, I have one set on my vintage 80's Ibanez, and the third set is a spare in case we break any strings. They give a rich on the lows and bright on the highs tone. They feel good on the fingers, and have the right amount of give. The intonation is excellent and these, apparently D'Addario's best selling strings, will possibly last a long time. I read that the core of these strings is hexagonal in shape, which helps the way the wrap sounds, feels and behaves. These strings have a really nice sustain too, and seem to stay in tune better than other brands we've used. I think these would make a great gift, as they come in a set of 3, but also these are good to stock up on for yourself. We'll definitely be getting more!Kedst123

Bought a 10 pack in 1992. Still have a couple sets left. My main Warmoth partscaster wears the strings out in about 5 years. You read that correctly, i leave those strings on until the winding on the D string wears off. Not that they break. I gig regularly and I use stainless steel frets on my partscasters. La Bella are a good quality strings for classical guitar, the light tension ones are good for old instruments not putting too much tension on the top of the guitar and gives you a sweet tone manly on the third string.vamin2012

After an extensive search online, I found these Savarez strings recommend by many forum users and they are fantastic for my classical guitar! A bright and rounded tone that projects really well from my guitar. The wood is a little softer sounding in this classical, and these strings does it great justice. I highly recommend them. Keep note, they are high tension strings, and you will need a well built guitar to hold them up, or at least one that you know is strong enough at the bridge and pegs to ensure no damage occurs on your guitar. I'm sure the strings with less tension will be suitable if that is the case (this is a topic that came up during my search)Mike

Sounds really good and takes longer if compared with others good nylon string brands. I've been playing the same classical guitar for over forty years. The wrapped treble Savarez are my only choice. None better. They "stick." They're true. They deliver every time. Someone advised not to trim them. Boy, is that ever true. If you trim them…or pull on a frayed end…they'll unwind themselves and pull free. This product is great for checking string tensions after you have been playing with your racket for a while. It checks both main and cross strings for tension. It doesn't have to be 100% accurate to let you know when your racket has lost it's tension. Lost tension over time means less control and the ball will fly off the racket wildly. The best part about this product is that you don't have to be a stringer to have one.kennyb4919

A personal choice, but I like D'addario strings in general and always them on my steel acoustic and electric guitars. Just acquired a Spanish classical guitar (new experience for me!) so I started experimenting with strings. I use the coated EXP45 normal tension strings on my Guild GAD-C2NA classical guitar. This is the guitar I travel with and use for most fingerstyle applications. I reserve my Ramirez E4 for local classical performances. The bottom 3 strings have great definition and stay within a few cents of concert pitch for several months. The top 3 strings are the same nylons from the EJ45 set. They may drop 20 cents overnight, but tune right up and stay in tune while playing. This set has a respectable classical tone but is a little brighter than the EJ45 Pro Arte set. They are fantastic if you are playing and singing popular and rock songs along with a few classical favorites. You can beat on them with rougher technique and they hold up and sing out. The EXP45 set only puts about 81 lbs. on the neck as compared to 86 lbs. for the EJ45 set. The lighter feel makes them very versatile and reduces your fatigue. The D'Addario claim is true: The composite core bottoms really do last 3-4 times longer. With a lot of practicing and performing, I can burn through an EJ45 set in 1-2 weeks. I've changed EXP45 sets at 2 months for a gig and have not really needed to. The windings will show some wear, but the bottoms are still staying in tune. The coating pays off if you don't always remember to wipe down the strings and fingerboard after playing.There are some who call me...Jim

I recently purchased a used classical guitar and gave it a set up, replaced the strings. That's when I purchased these EJ45's….Took almost a month for the strings to stop stretching. Would not stay in tune !! Maybe drop these in some boiling water like E.V. used to do to his strings to stretch them out..?? THE BAD….I thought it was the tuners (machine heads) on the guitar and almost purchased a new set. I've used the red package normal tension with no issues, I will not buy the EJ45 again. OK, In 37+ years of playing I have used all kinds of strings. Coated, Non-Coated, Frozen, Plain, Phosphor Bronze, silver colored, gold colored, nickel plated, even tried "retro" strings etc. The coated strings to me usually sound dead out of the box, or they are 3x the cost but don't last anywhere near long enough to justify the price. I have discovered it's mainly hype. I don't deny there is a coating on the strings but that is makes a HUGE difference…yeah not so much. The longest running type of string I have used were Phosphor Bronze. But with my guitar mellowing out there is more bass. The "Retro" strings were really not bad for tweaking the bass but longevity was lacking and the company YEARS ago made them in PA are now making them in Mexico. So I tried a set of D'Addario Nickel Bronze in Custom Light and they are FANTASTIC!!! The sound quality is over the top. Mids come alive, highs are clear but not overpowering, and the lows are clean, not muddy, bright but not jangley. My daughter says it almost sounds like a 12 string…LOL. They are fantastic and my Martin has NEVER sounded better. I play daily and have had these on for over a month and still not ready to change. I'll push the first few sets to the max just to see how far they CAN go. My guess is two months…we'll see. Disclaimer: I wipe down my guitar and strings after each time I play them. I'll also use dunlop string conditioner on them too. So that may help as well. Bottom Line – – If you are wondering about these strings…STOP WONDERING AND BUY THEM. If you've been putting off buying them STOP AND BUY THEM!!! They are worth EVERY PENNY!!!wife2seti

Had to take 'em off. Tone was just lifeless. I expected these Nickel Bronze to be the same experience, but gave them a try and was pleasantly surprised – loved them! With standard phosphor bronze the guitar had a braying tinny cartoon voice, by comparison. With the NB strings all the warm tone I hoped the mahogany would be able to convey immediately appeared and began to bloom. Its like I'm finally truly hearing the way the instrument was made to sound. You will sacrifice a bit of volume, not alot- and its worth it believe me for the sound you will achieve. I'm mostly a hybrid picker- true fingerstyle players will get even more satisfaction I would expect. Again, this is on a solid top all mahogany guitar. I cannot say how these may sound on a spruce or cedar top. Try them and let us know!Strumbum

I am beginner guitarist and at the start Nickel Bronze thought a little bit harder to my fingers than other 2 strings I tried: D'addario 80/20 BRONZE (EJ11) and PHOSPHOR BRONZE (EJ16). You also need to strum harder. But sound I really like. Also Nickel Bronze is 2x expensive than 80/20 BRONZE (EJ11). Next time I think I go with 80/20 BRONZE (EJ11), because they are 2x cheaper and not so hard and have a deeper tone. But I think is worth to try. If you have a hard fingers and you like to strum hard, I think you can really like them. If you like warmer tone, I think PHOSPHOR BRONZE (EJ16) is better choice.djdeivs

Bought from MF for over twenty years. They do not value their customers. They shorted me on the order and then had to wait more than a week to get the shorted items. When I tried to return them after I finally got the ones shorted as I had to buy locally for a gig. They told me Sorry we can't let you return these. I will never buy from MF again and will tell everyone at my shows to not buy from you. You lost an old customer and it is because you do not care. BGBG

Great strings, super consistent and ethically packaged. If you've not tried a balanced tension set do so yourself a favour and do so. Really comfortable to play, and just as much tone as you're used to. I never string with anything else now.Paul F.

I used all the rest first, then moved to these. Now, I strictly use these. I've used these forever and never anything else. They just sound the best and for a long time. I'm pretty tough on strings with massive Floyd Rose abuse and these take the punishment.RR Fatboy
