Reviews:
For many years, I've heard how great the Kemper is, but the price was a bit daunting. So, I went through different rigs, looking for specific tones. When I needed a different tone, I needed to change my rig. So, I decided to try the modeling rigs. The problem with the modeling rigs is that they are software representations of how the developers/programmers "think" the amp is going to react. For the most part, they do a pretty good job. The downside is that when the modeler gets older, and the development stops, you no longer have any updates, or any new amp models. This is NOT the case with the Kemper. The Kemper is not a modeler, it's a profiler. You profile an amp, and you have the sound in your Kemper. The sound is generated from the Kemper's profiling, which means that it is NOT guitar specific. It comes with a ton of built in effects, so that you can get any sound you are looking for. You basically have a unit that is "future-proof". If an amp comes out in a couple of years, you can profile that amp, and have it in your arsenal. If you think about it, it's pretty much the cheapest amp head on the market, because it's essentially EVERY head on the market. The 3rd party vendors, selling profiles is amazing. You can find any amp that you could ever want. This is the best choice I've ever made. The sound quality blows away anything I have played through before. Simply amazing. I wish I had taken the plunge sooner.lespauled
I played with a $3k pedalboard and a $1200 amp that equaled about 120 lbs of gear. Now I play with $900 worth of pedals (the remote, mission pedal, and a wireless), a $1800 amp at about 35 lbs. The difference now, besides the $$$ saved and weight, is the tone has way more versatility. I am able to play profiles of amps that are worth way more than the kemper and switch guitars without having to tweak much. Its a stellar piece of gear out of the box. I play semi-professional. Its a second job and hobby as well as playing at church.stephentietjen
Recently purchased the Kemper after owning the Axe Fx basic model. Although there are a lot of features the layout is so simple and intuitive that I was able to make adjustments, firmware updates and amp favorites sections in seconds. literally that easy. These types of steps were much more cumbersome if not downright difficult with the Axe Fx. On to the Amp Profiles- well they're not models- each title feels like a breathing reacting amplifier- you literally get 300 to play with right out of the box- but to my amazement, I downloaded the rig manager and was able load into my Kemper another 15 dream amps that the kemper community had posted. By the way, this was 15 out of over 5,500 other amp choices to load! The tones I was able to create in a very short time had me shaking my head. Each amp can be tweaked and the range of tone is amazing. I was able to adjust any amp to a point where i was capturing a great sound and then of course could save that snapshot immediately. I feel that the technology in the Kemper finally has captured what many others have attempted in the amp modeling field. The Kemper is in a class of it's own. This is a no brainer purchase- why buy an amp when you can own this and own every amp exactly as they originally sound, and capture any others with the profiling feature. they say to primitives advanced technology will seem as magic- well, kemper is pure magic to this primitive…Yeszenknow

3. Radial Engineering Workhorse Cube 3-Slot 500 Series Power Rack
Product Details:
Unlike other 500 series enclosures that are usually rack mounted, the cube is designed to sit on the desktop or be carried around the studio using the convenient top-mounted handle. this enables the engineer to position instrument and microphone preamps as close to the source as possible for improved signal to noise. the cube can also be recessed into the work surface using the optional mounting flanges. these allow either flush mounting or 30 degree angle mounting to optimize viewing position. following the criteria established by the radial workhorse, the powerstrip is 100% backwards compatible with older api modules while being optimized for radial's expanding range of preamps, processors and routing devices. construction begins with a 14 gauge steel frame and features dual gold contact edac 15-pin connectors for optimal signal transfer. to maximize headroom, the external supply delivers 500ma of current for power hungry modules plus a separate 48v phantom tap delivers a full 10ma of current for microphone preamps. rear panel connectivity includes standard xlrs for each slot along with 1/4" trs connectors for multing modules, cross patching and parallel processing. instead of the traditional 'hardwire patch' system employed by others, the cube employs an innovative feed function that patches modules together in series without the need of a cable. and stereo modules no longer need to be soldered to be paired, they can now be sync'd together using a simple switch. the cube is also equipped with omniport on each sot. this trs jack enables the module manufacturer to implement a unique function for a given module such as a key input on a gate. the cube the world's most advanced desktop power supply for 500 series modules.

Reviews:
Radial could have simply put a three-slot frame in a box, called it quits, and still would have had a good idea. Instead they went ahead and made it awesome by adding just a few extra touches, and now I can't look at my standard API lunchbox the same way anymore. First, the size of the Cube is just right for a single input channel, with room for a pre-amp, a compressor, and an EQ, de-esser, or whatever your favorite module is for sweetening your sound. It has a proprietary external AC power converter, with a 4-pin XLR connection, presumably to limit electrical noise inside the chassis, but it also keeps the Cube itself small enough for the second cool feature: with a set of accessory ears, the Cube can be recess-mounted in your work surface, either flush or at an angle. Carry it out to the club, or make it part of your permanent studio setup – it's your choice. The third cool feature is the integral connectivity between modules, giving you the choice (switchable from the back panel) of passing audio internally, or through the usual compliment of external jacks. Modules which can be paired for stereo operation may also be routed integrally, rather than with special board-to-board jumpers. Which is a good thing, because if there is one drawback to the Cube it is a tight fit, making it a bit of a pain to align modules with no vents or other apertures through which to see the module cards fitting into their slots on the backplane. Fat modules, such as the Burl B1D (huge transformer)or Moog's "The Ladder" (with a full sheetmetal enclosure) required a bit of finesse to seat them next to one another. But, I digress. The Cube is a dense little chunk of well-made, thoughtfully designed audio equipment in a convenient size with just the right compliment of useful features.
I've had it a short time, it has served me well so far. Portable and easy to switch out components.chrisschenk

Reviews:
I needed an affordable analog stereo pre-amp for a really old 125-watt (RMS) per channel AB-class power amp that's been packed away for a while. These days not only are preamps rare, they are ridiculously expensive, too. Searching around on the web I found a basic component that had all the necessary functions for under $100. Regretfully, it was hideously ugly with a purple and blue paint job on the front panel. Continuing to search I found its functional twin, the OSD Pre-1, with a conservative black front panel in the style of the great audiophile brands. Even better, it had a lower price. Because I live near the company in Brea, CA, I was able to pick it up and save any shipping charges. It's now hooked up and doing exactly what I need it to, i.e., input several sound sources, modify the tone of incoming signals, and regulate volume. It does all of these things without any quirks or audible flaws. As someone, who has owned a number of golden-ear-quality components, I was amazed by the build quality at this price point. The RCA terminals are gold plated and all of the knobs are real electromechanical potentiometers with detents. Plus, there is a turntable input that handles moving magnet phono cartridges, the most common variety. The flexibility to modify tones to the power amp is outstanding. In addition to simple bass and treble knobs, there are midrange and rotary loudness controls. Granted, these are not the same as a graphic equalizer. However, these features make it possible to subtly "sweeten" the output of any speaker in any listening environment when needed. I'm sure someone will grumble that there is no remote control. However, for a sophisticated, aspiring audiophile looking for maximum performance at a rock-bottom price, this is a non-issue. I noticed on the "Questions" page that there were concerns regarding the output voltage from the preamp to the power amp. In my set up it is not a problem. The preamp's output signal is adequately strong so that the overall system performance can be paint-peeling if the volume is really cranked up.BB3
I got the Preamp-1 to keep a system going while my Carver preamp is in the shop for repairs. If I were comparing to it, this puts out a third of the volume and more harmonic distortion… not that you're likely to notice. The sound is good, and the controls let you dial in your system the way you like. I've not heard anything close to it in it's price range. If you're on a budget, or just don't want to spend a fortune on a preamp – it's a great deal. There is no sub out on this pre… a set of "Y" cables took care of that. I will keep it even after I get the Carver back as a backup for all of my systems.Moose

I've been running solid state amps for 30+ years now. Tried tube amps back in the day (Marshalls, Randalls, Carvins, Fenders, Peaveys, etc…) but it seemed as though they always needed to be in the shop for one reason or another. Solid State was my choice for decades… Well, now here's this single rack space, all-tube power amp – I had to try it. Love it!!! Had the first rehearsal with the band last week and everybody could hear the difference. At first I thought it was just me being happy about a new amp; but, no… I heard it too, and they all said how great the entire room sounded! The SYN5050 has way more dynamic response than any other SS or older Tube amp that I have ever played through. Clean, clear, ballsy – every nuance of my picking comes through. I gave it 4 and a half stars because I need to use it more. Really happy with my set-up at the first 3-hour practice. This weekend I will gig it for 4+hours – more on that later! Try it, you'll like it!
This is one of the best tube power amp if not the best!mammb4234

Reviews:
I ordered this unit a few months ago to add channels to my Syn-30. I wanted to live with it a bit to assess reliability, tone, interface, etc. Like the reviewer before me, I agree this thing really does live up to the hype. Seamlessly works with EVH 5150III or Sny-30, 50 or any head with a SERIAL effects loop. The tone and feel is unbelievable, like to the extent that I am seriously considering selling a Mesa Triple Rectifier to further my synergy collection. Why? Tone and Feel aside, the cab simulator on this thing is better than I can ever get with a mic in front of a real cab to a PA system, it's quicker to set up, it's quicker to dial in my tone, less peripherals needed (i.e. tons of cables and stompboxes), I really think Synergy changes the game entirely for guitar players. Why get 1 boutique amp and have to hit it with all manner of effects to dial in the tone you hear on albums when this thing gives you all that and more in minutes, saves your back at gigs, and has absolutely inspirational tone? I have had zero problems with reliability so far. Because I run it with a POD HD Rack, I also have one -1- cable on the ground now when I play. So, that's 3 channels on the head, 4 channels in the rack, and seemless channel and FX switching with only one cable required on the floor (in the rack you need 4 cables plus a midi cable to get that switching) to my footswitch and NO CAB needed at gigs. I will also add that I have used Voodoo labs and a Boss ES-8 midi switching system. No programing required with this rig, you press the store button and you are done. That's right, no CC changes, programing etc., which is a major inconvenience of traditional midi switching rigs. I LOVE Synergy.Guitar Nerd Bryan
WOW!! No modeling here and real sustain….Very impressed from the moment I plugged the Syn-2 in. I really like the fact that you can get a tone of different sounds out of the preamp modules. I would highly recommend for guitarists looking for a great live sound without lugging speakers and heavy amps. I use with a Headrush for effects and midi switch the channels and I have everything I need in one small rack and setup time is a couple of minutes. This thing is awesome, try one you will see.Garrett V

This enhances the Graphtech Ghost bridge I installed. Installation was relatively simple since all the wiring is modular and plugs into the pre amp. Minimal soldering was required for the jack and switches. There are a lot of wires so the electronic cavity in my guitar is full but I did not have to enlarge it or modify the cavity.Martin
Absolutely the best acoustic guitar sound from any electric guitar hands down. I've tried and owned aftermarket piezo systems and OEM piezo equipped guitars, the ghost just has that nature sound. It reacts like a "plugged in" acoustic guitar. Soft passages are smooth and even, all the strings have equal output, something the other systems did not have. Step into it and the Ghost just gets dynamic, no piezo "quack" or unnatural thin, sharp distorted tones. Add the fact that string breakage becomes a thing of the past, will pay for its self inside a couple of months. Once you've been able to play a cool acoustic intro, then light into the electric chorus, you'll never go back!Anonymous
9. Synergy Bman 2-Channel Preamp Module
Product Details:
When someone mentions american-style guitar amplifiers, there is really only one name that comes to mind. and for good reason. since fender's start in california during the late 1940s, they've been designing and crafting some of the finest-sounding and most-recorded electric guitar amps in history. whether guitarists lean more toward the company's 60s-style glassy cleans or gritty tweed-era tones, all of us revere the legacy that these amps continue to create. with their blackface, brownface, tweed, and modern designs, they are the only company that truly lays claim to the american sound.

Reviews:
Overall, with the noted tube replacement, features and sound quality for the price, I'd have to rate the unit 10. However, there is one thing I must mention that is quite annoying: For some reason, the ART designers chose to use an odd semi-mirror-image in the design. Where the gain and output knobs on channel one are arranged left and right, respectively, on channel two they are reversed. Likewise the gain and phase switches. The V3 dials and meters, however, are (thankfully) not reversed. Why the ART engineers opted for this layout is beyond me, and can cause a bit of confusion initially – and even after using the unit for some time – when caught up in the process of making music. Adjusting the settings on channel two to match channel one can have some irritating surprises until you remember the controls are reversed! Still, I can't deduct points because of a touch of inexplicable design oddness. The ART TPS II is an incredible preamp for recording, and I highly recommend it. The ART TPS II has all the features I was looking for on my home studio budget. While some may complain that it's not a "true tube preamp," bear in mind the TPS II is a hybrid. A tube preamp for under $140.00 is an unrealistic expectation. Likewise, while some have complained about the V3 voicing, one must bear in mind that the settings are to be seen as starting points. Some are terrific as-is, some need a touch of tweaking, and a couple will rarely be of use. It's all a matter of taste, instrument, and style of music. That's what makes the unit so versatile. For the features, the price makes the unit a bargain. Two channels, front 1/4" and XLR inputs, input and tube meters, gain, impedence and output dials, tube gain, phantom power and phase switches, and the V3 dial with 16 voicings for voice, guitar, bass and keyboards. As it comes from ART, the sound quality of the TPS II is very good. But, as has been noted by other users, the quality can be greatly improved with a better tube. I tried the RUBY 12AX7AC5 HG+, recommended by Doug at dougstubes.com, and the difference was amazing. Overall, much warmer and more output; that "tube sound" I was after. I'd now rate the sound quality at 10. For the price, the ART TPS II has an incredible array of features.
ART makes great stuff and this pre is a prime example. First of all…yes, it has only one tube. The 12AX7 is a dual triode tube so both channels use one half of the tube. Perfectly legit design. No…it's not a "true" tube amplification design. It wasn't meant or designed to be. The tube is there for one purpose: to produce and add tube harmonics to the signal. It does a very good job of that. The tube is starved plate. For the purpose it was employed in the design, it actually works better that way in spite of what others say about starved plate designs being always inferior. Many times they are but with designs like the TPS, a lower tube voltage will produce more harmonic distortion (which is what makes this thing sound so cool and unique in the first place). I've had and used many, many mic preamps in my over 25 years as a recording engineer and I can say with confidence, this is a great mic pre.Rob
This is a fantastic value for those on a low budget, but need something to improve their recordings. This will do the job until you can move up in value. I have a small studio, and due to the thousands of dollars I already have in it (including guitars, amps, etc). While it would be great to purchase one much better than this, the money is not there to do so. However, the quality and low price of this unit, enabled me to make my recordings sound much better than before. It is very rare for me to record more than one track at a time, but having the second channel is a plus. Not only do I use this for vocals, I also find that it helps the sound of guitars, bass, synth, and probably anything your wanting additional help with in sound. When recording a guitar, I like having the sound from the amp/guitar being used, much more than using on board effects. Since the placement of the mic in front of the amp is very important, I was impressed by how much this pre-amp came into play. It is my view that any new product that needs a tube or any other part change. Then one should give a second thought prior to the purchase of said item. Many people think that it is no big deal to change a tube in amps, or other products. However, I have 7 tube amps that are at the high end of the dollar scale. Many times replacing a tube is more than just pulling the old one out and putting the new one in. Because in certain situations the tube has to have additional adjustments upon replacement. There is no way I would try and replace a tube in any of my amps, and risk making a mistake on amps that range from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00 dollars in price. I'm sure that many of you have the skills to perform this procedure, I would rather have an authorized tech to the job. This unit may really sound better with a tube change, but I had rather purchase a higher priced pre-amp that needs nothing. For me, this pre-amp right out of the box performs well for the price you paid. Try one out for yourself, and if you don't care for it exchange it for a different product.

As good as other Triton products. Well built and reliable.Albert
Headline says it all. B&H could have done a solid but instead stuck to their rigid policies. They've lost a customer for life. The manufacturer saved the day by offering a simple exchange. I offered to pay ALL of the associated fees but B&H would not consider it. Very disappointingVincent

17. Randall Rgp1000 2-Channel Rackmount Guitar Preamp
Product Details:
Used randall rgp 1000 rack pre-amp. essentially this is a dual channel version of the rg100ht but with added chorus and reverb. comes with a custom footswitch made or rehoused by the previous owner. i bought this off of a gentleman who had it listed on a forum board, 10-12 years ago. i was chasing that dime tone. at the same time i had a rg 100es head and a rg 200es head ( which is basically the predecessor to the century 200 dime used). the rgp gets that dime thing no problem, and you can couple it with a nice tube poweramp and get some real push. the usa made randall stuff is the only randall equipment worth owning in my opinion and ive owned enough of it. the mid 90's onward qc really dropped.this thing is pretty rad. even if your not trying for the dime thing. the stereo out / chorus and verb gets that def leppard clean sound pretty spot on. it does the lynch thing pretty well. old randalls are great. so thats the good. the bad, as you can see the screen printing is pretty rough…

Reviews:
The preamp was phasing in and out, the sound was very harsh, the sound engineers ended up disconnecting it and did their own EQ to produce an excellent sound from the k&k pure preamp. An unfortunate experience, I shall be returning it for another, maybe it's just a faulty preamp?Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
