I don't know why the folks at Celestion felt the need to produce a "U.S." sounding speaker. When I need that type of tone, I go for a JBL or Jensen, Eminence, etc. This "A" type does sound decent though, so I am going to keep them for a while. For best results, mix them… I use the A type in a 2X12 with a Vintage 30 to get the best of both worlds and it sounds great with my gear!I. M. Guitardid

I use this in a ported 2×12 with either a Genz Benz El Diablo or a EVH 5150 III, as it gives my top open notes that beautiful sag, regardless of amp choice. Handles effects very well.Zach

I put this in an old Vox VT15 Pawn shop find. It worked well for a few years but it konked out, and I didn't want to spend a ton on a little practice amp. This little speaker did the trick. I really think I'm getting better tones out of this speaker than the speaker that it came with. The "A Type" is for American voicing like a Fender. I compared it to Scum Back Scumnico speaker its like a V30. The A had more tight low end and woody mids and the famous Fender chime. I think the A type would be the best choice for a Deluxe Reverb Jazz player, but a "V" type is probably better for distortion players. Celestion nomenclature "V" types voiced for vintage British Valve amps like Vox and Marshalltuning50

Sounds like what you would expect for a high quality Celestion speak. Worked perfectly in my little Peavy Rage practice amp, and sounded better than the original Blue Marvel.jamin847

I have a vintage Mouse amp from Lectrosonics I had used for busking back in the day. The speaker's cone was brittle and developed holes. I patched it as well as I could, but, it was a goner. Lectrosonics didn't sell the speakers as their supplier had discontinued them. I set to look for a replacement (~15W 4Ω) and decided on this one. The Mouse specsheet said 8˝, but it was 7 1/2 ˝, which I realized after taking the amp apart (read the manual, but always measure-lesson learned). After some chiseling, I was able to install the Celestion. I plugged in the old guitar and it was good. Real good. The Mouse is alive! It's now a practice amp and I hope to get more years out of this old rodent.Axegrinder

My one watt Bumbox Lead 1 sounded mushy with a 12 inch cabinet and I was hoping a low watt speaker would sound bigger. I am pretty impressed with this now that the speaker is broken in. Good clarity and crunch at low volume. Excellent sound for rock playing.John

I've been through many, many 12s for Blackface style speakers. These are my faves. For good 60s tones in country and rock with a BF amp these guys work great. Take pedals well. Not shrill or muddy in my experience. Solid surfy bass. Smooth treble. 120 watts which is triple what I would ever throw at em. For a Deluxe or a Pro in a honkytonk bar, these are just the ticket.edol9871

For me the tones of these are somewhere in between American and British. I use these mainly in a 2×10 cab for a fender vibroverb style amp. Vs the Oxford speakers these have a lil more mid focus and rounded highs that work much better with higher gain tones. I also use these with my Marshall origin 50 set relatively clean to get a slightly bigger bottom end than V30s.RockinJohnson

I bought this speaker in the 16ohm version to replace a v30 in my orange ppc1x12. I love the v30 but I mainly use a 100w Marshall DSL100HR and the v30 by itself couldn't handle all that wattage since it's only 60watts. So I decided to go with the swamp thang cause a little more defined low end sounded like a good idea as I play a 7 string ltd (fishman fluence pups) half the time. But I was worried I would loose the highs that we need for attack in high gain situations as well as playing clean which I do very often also. But now that I've played tgrough this speaker I can say that is not a problem whatsoever. This speaker has twice the highs and twice the lows as my v30. Probably a little less midrange but since it's such a powerful speaker it doesn't feel like it's relying on mids the cut through. Full disclosure I've only had the speaker a few hours and played through it a little over an hour but if it sounds this good outta the box I'm confident things will only get better. It's a great sounding speaker in my opinion that would complement any style/set up. I plan on buying an empty Luke 2x12C cab from seismic audio soon so i can pair the ST and the v30 which im lookong forward to. But in the meantime im in no huge hurry since the ST sounds so good by itself.Michael I.

Overall: If you are looking to add volume and low end to your 10 inch combo or cabinet, look no further, this is it. The sound is pretty good for either clean or distorted sounds. It may not have the "magic" of some high end Celestions, but it sounds MUCH better than most stock speakers that come in mid to low priced amps and cabinets. In my opinion the best thing about this speaker is that this is the only speaker out there that makes a 10 inch combo sound like a 12 inch combo. (and it really does) I had put this speaker in a Laney Cub 10 and had it sitting on top of a 4X12 cabinet that I keep at my friend's practice space/ home studio. He walked in while I was playing and thought that I had it connected to the 4X12,.. no joke.Lawrence

This 10” speaker is what every speaker should sound like. Tight low end, mids are just right and the high end is smooth. Now I put this in a fender frontman 25R. Yes it’s solid state, but this speaker made it a great practice amp. I would use this at a small gig that’s how much I think this speaker made this amp beyond usable now. Overall: I put this speaker in an open back 1×12 cab made of birch. It is very loud and still holds a lot of bass for the open back design. I would buy this speaker over and over for the price and tone.Adam

I paired the legend 1275 with a eminence CV75 in a 2×12 custom cabinet. Use DV mark head And you get very nice cleans with decent break up at mid range volumesDavid W.

I play gigs every week, and use Crate 120 watt GFX-212, I play a seven string guitar and the bottom end has always been muddy. The speakers broke up and I contacted Eminence to see if I should use the Texas heat or the swamp thang. The said these were great speakers but for the seven string they recommended this speaker. I took there suggestion and am extremely pleased. I can turn the bass all the way up and the low B string rings clear, the highs are clear was well. Overdrive screams like it should. The clean setting is so clear I can not believe it. The one thing I was not prepared for about the speakers is they are about twice as loud as my old ones. They are however thee times the weight of my old speakers,but well worth the extra weight of my cabnets. I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone. These have a seven year warranty from the manufacturer as well.The Boz

Had a Superchamp X2 and decided to pick up a Superchamp mini stack to use for jamming with friends. Like the range of sounds and moderate volume of the amp, but felt like the shrill Celestion in the 1×12 cabinet could be improved on. I never used the EV 12 but wanted to see if this take on that speaker could round out the sound. This guy is heavy… reminded of lugging around the old JBLs. I added fiberglass to the cabinet and mounted the big guy. Even with minimal breakin, this thing sounds great. Big tight bottom, clear as a bell mids and highs with no ice pick. And so efficient it makes the little Superchamp louder. This speaker sounds like it puts out the best your amp can give it without breaking a sweat. I bought a pair of these for a Gibson Ranger GA-55RVT that I restored and converted to 2×12's instead of 4×10's. I cut the case down and installed a new speaker mounting plate, new Tolex, knobs, electrolytics, tubes, everything. The only thing I didn't have was a matched pair of 12-inch guitar speakers, so I installed a pair of ruggedized 12-inch "no-name" (Urban Audio Works) speakers until I got everything worked out on the Ranger. The Gibson actually sounded decent with the Urbans, but with these Legends, it really rocks! The sound is exactly as described in the ad: Lots of growl and muscle, especially with the front pickups, but zingy highs and midranges for lead work with the middle and back pickups. I was torn between the Jensen C12N's and C12K's, but then I saw Music123's ad for the Eminence Legend 1258s, and decided to give them a try. Plus, I heard the Jensen's were more "British" and "woody" sounding, and I wanted an American rock/Fender Twin sound for my Gibson. That amp uses two 6L6's for output (as opposed to four for the Fender) so I was worried that the C12K's might be too much, and the C12Ns too little. But the Legends are perfect. They really brought my Ranger to life, at all volume settings. The biggest thing Ive noticed is how these speakers bring out the differences in the switch and pickup settings on my various guitars, from Strats and Strat copies, to my 76 Kramer aluminum neck 450G. They really have a great tonal range. And the 75-watt rating (x2) is perfect for the 55-watt Gibson amp.John Young-Y0CQl

This speaker doesn't get a lot of press because it is overshadowed by the Patriot and Red Coat speakers in the Eminence brand. I've been through many Emi speakers in the newer lines but came back to this one. It is clean but definitely not sterile. Big warm (tight but not boomy) bass, mids are solid but smooth with just a touch of bite when you crank your mids. Highs are strong but musical – not harsh. It plays any style of music and keeps its composure at high volumes. I also like that it is slightly less efficient allowing me to turn my amp up more to get into the sweet spot. It just plain works for my Fender 40 watt black face amp. Cleans are exceptional and overdrive is very musical. For my purposes, it is the best speaker Emi sells.Super 400

I've been using a pair of these for 6 years, for different heads, amps too. Really powerful tight sound, I love em. However, with a silver stripe Bandit 112 they were too bright/harsh. It's because the Bandit is just too bright and harsh, I had a very hard time tweaking an overdrive distortion I liked from that amp…sold it. Was very skeptical. Speaker under fifty ….can it actually sound decent. Yes, it does!! Great deal. Loaded in a 2×12 with a Chinese V30…can't tell the difference. Think I'll buy 2 more for another 2×12.Chad

I busted my Celestion Hot 100 speaker so I needed a quick fix in my main 12'' speaker cabinet (a gutted Marshall Haze). I have always been a fan of Mike Matthews' Electro Harmonix products and when I saw the price I went for it since it was so cheap. I have been breaking it in for a week now ( although it sounded decent out of the box) and have used a Randall RX120RH 120 watt solid state( which is my main gig head ( it took any and every pedal I threw at it ) , a cranked 12 watt Fender Princeton, straight guitar to amp, (Townsend for days) and a Marshall 50 watt (great sound with pedals and clean) All of this was done at low to mid volume (Randall and Marshall volumes no higher than 3) which would be loud enough for any small or medium club ). I am not sure how it would handle really high volumes ….BUT it sounds better than the Celestion which had a low end boom or whoosh at times on low notes. I am very happy with the results I achieved and still endorse EHX.B.L.

Carvin BelAir, 50 watt Twin. Had been trying diff American voiced speakers – all too shrill. Piercing highs, especially with a Tele which is what I play. Someone said to try vintage 30s or some such. Got these for cheap and am really surprised. These sound pretty great! Tamed the shrill, and really evened out the tone. Lost a little low end thump, but more than a fair trade. Overall the speakers seem ok, heavy magnet assembly but the frame seems thin and cheap compared to other speakers I owned. Will it bend over time and pinch the voice coil? Who knows? One thing to consider is the single set of tabs, rather than the usual doubles, so you will need to solder the wires on unless you get a set of double male/single female adapters. Overall these work well in this amp. They did not work well in a twin cab I have, they sounded bad there. Sometimes speakers are specific to the application an ymmv.Raul

This speaker is ideal for the lead guitarist who needs to project well in the mix at gig volume in a band setting. It is not the ideal choice if you use it at home for practice and noodling. There are a lot better speakers that will enhance your tone at home — think Greenback, Creamback or similar. I have these mixed in two 4×12 cabs. Alone, the V30's highs are shrill and will drive you nuts. To maximize the advantages of this speaker, I suggest you mix them in an X pattern. I have mine mixed with G12T-75s in one cab and G12H in the other. Both sound great at any volume and with the V30s cut through the mix at gig volume. In short, this is a great speaker for the gigging lead guitarist who must project his sound. Works best at high volume which it handles with ease. This speaker's harsh tone can be tamed when paired with another speaker which will improve your tone. It works well with every speaker I paired it with. If you're not in a band or looking for killer tone with lower watt heads or just lower volume, I suggest you look at another speaker as there are better sounding speakers. Not a good choice for a warm amp without good high frequencies ! My Jet City 2212c amp has a bright attack using a Legend 1258 speaker and even brighter with the stock custom Eminence speaker but this SPEAKER fixed the harsh attack and added nice harmonics I did not hear before from this amp ! I had my eyes opened when I tested the Jet City amp with the vintage 30 that came in my BadCat Cougar 5watt tube combo , wow what a difference ! This amp gets mediocre reviews with the stock speaker , not mediocre anymore and can cut up the treble or presents control for more of a Vox top boost amp tones ! It gets overdriven to clean like Tom Petty tones now ! Careful choosing a Cream back Celestion the EQ on my G12 65M cuts midrange noticeably which I did not like but it sure sounds good too ! You need beautiful midrange go with the Vintage 30 no question !golddust742

I bought two of the V30s to go into an 4×12 cab along with two Celestion G12H-75s that is being powered by a new Orange Rockerverb 100W MKIII. Unfortunately, I had some tube socket issues and had to send it to Atlanta for diagnosis and repair so I haven't had the opportunity to play this combo out. However, I do have an 8 ohm version in another cab that I've had for 3 years and all my comments will refer to this particular speaker. The Vintage 30, for all its so-called shortcomings of spikey mid-range sound, is still one of the best speakers I have ever used. When I hear comparisons on YouTube, against a WGS Veteran 30, for example, I keep coming back to the full bodied sound that the Vintage 30 imbues. I have another one that replaced an Eminence special design transducer in a Supro that sounds much better than the original. The sonically pleasiing tones this speaker dishes out improves over time. The highs get less shrill and the speaker warms up. It's never flubby. Do check out this speaker. I can't wait to get my Rockerverb back in operation to put the V30-G12H combo through it's paces. It's not the best value speaker around at close to $160 a pop, although I was able to get a decent price on eBay. Then again, you get what you pay for.mwmcwilliams

I had long heard about the celestion vintage 30 but only recently decided to see what the hype was all about. I can say that this speaker has truly made a huge difference in sound. Each note emanating from my guitar is now rich and full. This speaker makes the clean channel of my amp sound warm and chimey. And the gain channel packs much more punch. Without belaboring the point, this speaker is worth every penny and will inspire you. Now I know what the hype is all about.Gary

I put two of these in my Marshall 1936 2×12, wow what an incredible improvement over the old G12-T75 speakers that Marshall has used for so many years. Celestion hit it out of the park with the Creambacks. If you are looking for a Greenback alternative that supports higher wattage, this is the one to get. It actually sounds like a mix between a Greenback and Vintage 30 with all the negatives of each speaker removed. Imagine the vintage Greenback sound with higher wattage and a tighter modern bottom end, rounded but pleasing top, and those Greenback mids. I was so blown away by them when I hit the first chord. It strikes the perfect balance between vintage and modern sound and you can do anything with these speakers. I play high-gain metal myself and they were perfect for what I was looking for.NK

I've got 2 M65s in an Avatar 2×12 closed back, and another M65 in a little cheapo Bugera 1×12 closed back. Both cabs sound fantastic with the G12M65 Creambacks. Primary amp is the Marshall DSL20hr. I struggled a bit to find the right speaker for this head, but the M65 is the perfect match. No fizz, no harsh, no spikes, crystal clear, lively, balanced. Couldn't be happier. Definitely my new favorite guitar speaker. MF got them shipped to me quickly. Very pleased!JKC

I use V30s and G12M greenbacks in my 412 but wanted a higher wattage 212 combo than the greenback. The V30 and Creamback didn't have that magic in a 212. Was able to quickly compare different pairs of speakers and found severe magic in the 16ohm GT12 and Creamback. Note the 8 ohm GT12s are junk.Cranklin

Quality and construction appear very good and I really appreciate the gasket on the back side of the basket for mounting on the front of the baffle. The packing from Eminence was excellent. I installed these speakers in mid sized sealed cabinets along with the 270-125 heavy duty titanium super tweeters. Over all I m very pleased. I am powering them with a 150W per channel mixer. These will play extremely loud with no hint of distortion. No rubs, buzzes, or other issues. The sound is fairly natural. Very punchy in the mid range. Vocals and guitar seem to come to the front of the mix. The bass is more subdued. Of course, this is probably due to overlap with the tweeters. At low and medium volume they still sound good. Almost as good as decent Hi-Fi speakers and better than most PA speakers on recorded music. I think they ll work really well for my indented purpose as PA vocal speakers.Parts Express Customer - 12732

Overall: bought this speaker after purchasing a cheaper speaker to upgrade a monitor cabinet. the cheaper speaker had a great appearance but was not pushing the db's. We replaced the stock speaker in a Fender 40 Champ with this. Everybody in the store was astounded and took turns playing through that amp after this upgrade.The local Jazz guru played chord-melody arrangements and told us that from his "old-school" perspective, this was one of the best sounding speakers for Jazz he'd ever heard. (he's over 60 and has played every kind of music through every kind of amp.)We all noticed how it brings out the notes of complex chords with definition and clarity.Then the younger shredders got hold of it. Even when pushed into ridiculous distortion we heard a good balance between tight-clear lows and defined yet sweet highs. There is plenty of high-end for clarity, but it never seemed harsh. All that from an OPEN BACK solid-state amp!The customer, who plays a wide variety of material in several cover bands, was delighted.He uses a Roland GT100 preamp before the amp and demonstrated a huge variety of classic hit tones he uses with his bands. Because he has TWO of these Fender 40 champ amps (for stereo) it was easy to A-B the two amps, which were identical except for the speakers.This speaker is noticeably LOUDER than stock, which can be good or bad depending on your needs. We spent a good hour (or more) listening to a wide variety of classic guitar tones through his system and everyone noticed the improved clarity, definition, articulation. I used this speaker as a replacement for the Jensen stock speaker in a '64 Fender Custom Deluxe Reverb amp ..seems like a better made speaker, made by Eminence, designed by Allesandro. a U.S. made speaker with a bit more headroom and bottom end..the only downside all the bolt holes didn't line up..it's still in there though ..drwest845

Great sounding speaker right out the box. Full but controlled bass. Not lacking mid range, but still highlights the vintage character of a Fender. Sparkly high end, but no ice pick. Has the very natural attack of an Alnico, not stiff at all, but in a more affordable ceramic speakerJames Low
