Reviews:
The Fender CB-60SCE Black Solid Spruce Top Acoustic/Electric Bass Guitar is an excellent buy. Mine's a demo, which cut another $100 off the price! The built-in tuner is what every guitar needs. the 12-volt battery compartment is easily successible at the plug-input port — no more cramping your hand to reach past the strings inside the tone-hole. The intonation is perfect, with no fret buzz all the way up the neck. Most impressive is the volume! This acoustic bass holds its own even without amplification. Add an amp and the built-in tone controls and you have a great electric bass as well. The black lacquer throughout gives the Fender CB-60SCE a classic look. It is light and powerful, a high-quality instrument. It's a worthy bearer of the Fender name!joeltucker
I recently started playing bass guitar. My 12 yr old daughter plays the acoustic guitar, and my wife plays the harp. I chose an acoustic electric bass as my starter so we could all play together and have better cohesion and continuity in our sound in addition to the simplicity and flexibility an acoustic electric bass gives for playing/practicing. I am able to practice quietly, and it is extremely portable and very playable just about anywhere. I did some research and chose this one as "the one" to start on and very glad I did. The quality is outstanding, the sound is beautiful, and i just outright enjoy playing it. Plus I got it in black and love the look of it. I am very happy with this bass. I do intend to also buy an electric bass (or two) but have found this acoustic bass to be a high quality instrument and a great purchase.Phillip
This bass is perfect for just grabbing off the stand and playing whenever the mood strikes me, practicing while everyone else is sleeping (without need of sweaty headphones), or sitting out in the yard playing. I ordered it on a Sunday and it arrived that Thursday set up with about a millimeter of neck relief and about a 5 mm action, tuned down one step from standard. The onboard Fishman tuner is super handy and it agrees perfectly with my Snark Super Tight. It has a nice, rich tone across the spectrum both plugged in and unplugged. A word of caution if you do plug it in, though: have plenty of cable and make sure your muting technique is on point; it is LOUD! (In a good way!) I've only had it about 3 weeks at this point but I can foresee a long, lovely relationship with this beautiful bass!Vic B.

Beautiful full sound, with cool looks. Fret board is smooth and the bobd is comfortable to hold. Love it.Mark U.
Absolutely belting and beautiful acoustic bass, lovely to play, great sound and lovely to look at. Acoustic basses are great if you’re time and space limited and just need something to pick up and play without the faff of plugging in and finding headphones etc (which i find a bit anti social for my partner and kids). I’ve tried a few acoustic basses and this is the best and it has a surprisingly good slap sound, which I hadn’t expected from an acoustic bass! All in all if you want something to play at home this is the best. I can’t comment on the electric sound (this has a preamp) as I haven’t used it yet and it’s not what I bought it for.D R. M.
This is a great bass! I've owned and played a handful of acoustic basses from different companies in my time and i like this one the best. Let me state first, I'm not a fender guy but…I've always loved the sound of an acoustic bass and I always wanted one, so i shopped around for a while and went through a few different models to arrive at this one. I've had it for a year now and i grow to love it more all the time! The pictures on GC dont do it justice…The high gloss black finish on the body and headstock is sleek and sexy and the bold block inlays coupled with the jazz bass neck and headstock give this beauty a different attitude compared to other acoustic basses and it plays smooth and sounds great! The biggest thing I noticed with this model compared to the other acoustic basses I've had is that this one really projects well and has great tone plugged or unplugged! I travel a lot and this bass has gone a lot of places with me and it's always sure to turn heads. I live in a place where i wouldn't want to crank my amps to play electric so this has become the main bass i use to practice with and i have a lot of fun with it. It looks and sounds great, it's built and finished well, it's fun and smooth to play, it holds its tuning and the electronics don't drain batteries…what more could you ask for? I would definitely recommend this bass, especially for the price point.Ray

Reviews:
If you are tired of searching for a professional sound buy this bass. I hated the mim fender deluxe model, but fender did something special with this bass. It has a clear piano like quality to it. My two sire basses sound like toys up against it. I have wasted so much money on lesser basses. I'm just trying to help my fellow bass players out there. Everyone says that I sound good playing my other basses, but there are certain ugly overtones that I don't want to hear in my bass. This bass doesn't have those unwanted frequencies, it is voiced beautifully. I know that most of tone is in the fingers, but at the end of the day you know what you want to hear. If you are an audiophile this is the bass for you. I have spent weeks demoing this bass and no matter what amp you run it through it sounds good. I played it at a church last week and all I can say is it was nasty. My wife ordered mine yesterday for my birthday and it's suppose to arrive today, fingers crossed.Eric
I've owned and played bass guitars for 30 years now and I've owned several fender basses and the myriad clones out there of the J and P basses. That history and background left me with a bias against fender and an eye for other "better" production guitars like the Stingray which is my other go-to bass. That being said, I am blown away by this bass. It is a SOLID instrument with no flaws or blemishes that I can detect. It came from the factory with an almost perfect setup. I had to make a minor intonation adjustment on the low B and E strings but the string height, pickup height, and neck position were perfect. Fender's Ultra Noiseless pickups (a stacked humbucker really) sound great in passive mode emphasizing a fat bottom end and the tone nob adds a good bit of mids. The highs are kinda meh for me but the active switch takes care of that and I can get as bright as I want. The 18v active preamp provides a lot of room to boost or cut low, mid, and high frequencies to get just about any sounds I want (I still prefer my Sting Ray if I want to get real funky). This is about the best sounding 5-string I've had. Most 5-strings sounds great as 4-strings and SUPER muddy when you work the low-b string but this bass brings it out without too much mud.T. DeWees
I bought this base back in April 2022. It sounds great and plays great. However, the front pickup recently quit all together. After a tech looked at it, it was discovered that it was a bad front pickup. It was beyond the store warranty, so I took it up with fender. After 2 weeks of going back and forth between them and the store that I bought it at, it was determined that fender would send the pickup to the technician if my choice and they would fix it. But it would take 30 days because they send it directly from the manufacturer. Which still boggles my mind, because the slowest mail would be less than a week? So my opinion of fender customer service has dropped considerably. A working musician doesn't have 30 days to do without their instrument. This is unacceptable. I decided to purchase the pickup myself. I can get it in the mail in 2 days, and put it in myself. However this is a great base if you happen to get one with good parts in itJerry

Forget what you've heard about Acoustic Basses. This thing has a great feel and a great sound. I love the big traditional tuners. The only drawback is that its kinda hard to find a case that it will fit properly in. I bought a roadrunner case and had to modify it to accommodate the keys.David

Simply put, this bass is a lot of bang for your buck. Whether your plugging it in or just noodling around with friends the clarity of each note fills the area around you. The upgraded presys plus system is incredibly versatile and extremely user friendly when trying to dial in any tone. Right our of the box between the looks and how rich and full it sounded, it blew me away. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good, playable acoustic bass that plays as good as it looks.Nick
Great looking 5 string acoustic bass. Setup was playable out of the box, no truss rod adjustment needed. Only thing that I feel is definitely needed is upgraded tuning keys as there is too much play in the stock ones. I replaced with Gotoh GB707 which are much sturdier and 20:1 ratio which is much improved. Stock holes need a tiny sanding out to accommodate these tuners but only takes a couple minutes and then an easy drop-in replacement. Since I am playing primarily through an amp, I inserted one of those rubber feedback eliminator discs in the soundhole and changed strings to La Bella white tape wound to eliminated lots of finger noise when amplified. Now plays great, maintains tune and sounds wonderful. With a little tweaking this bass is a welcome addition to my gear.JL
I am so happy with my new Michael Kelly 5 String Fretless bass. Grandon your Luther at our local Sam Ash store here in Indy, did an amazing job. Grandon replaced the strings and completed the set up on this bass and now it is my favorite bass. Grandon has this guitar sounding amazing, with no string buzz. Thank you Grandon! and Thank you Sam Ash.KEN

Reviews:
I was so pleasantly surprised by this bass. It sounds awesome plugged in, it really sings. It won't hold it's own acoustically without being plugged in against acoustic guitars but it is great for practicing with unplugged. I removed the cheesy pick guard (it came right off) and installed a thumb rest to set it up like I want to play, I almost never use a pick. Very happy and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable ABG and it looks so cool also.TCP
Even with a smallish body, it has good balance (not neck heavy). Really good sound. Once acclimated to the temperatures, stays in tune. Good close action with little fret buzz, only if you really snap it. Piezo pickup is very sensitive, so flat wound strings might be in order to reduce slide-squeak. Played through an acoustic guitar amp it has a deep true sound. Some slight splintering around the inside of the sound hole. Nice neck profile, well finished frets. Very thin finish, which helps the sound but makes the body seem somewhat fragile. Handle with care! Overall an excellent value. The Seeker

Reviews:
The Takamine GB30CE is a performance level instrument. Good sustain, solid electronics, vibrant amped lows, acoustic feel and sound. It has reasonable projection unplugged. First used on a very active stage (in front of uncaged drums, near sub-woofer, front pointing hung speakers running hot) without any feedback problem. I wanted it to fill a niche with my 6 string bass, electric upright, and Ubass, and it fits perfectly in the mix. Like any full-bodied acoustic electric I've ever played, it must be played with a little bit more finesse than a solid body (slap is too harsh for it, in my opinion). Built in tuner is just okay; I prefer a pedal tuner. EQ, mid-shift and bass boost are all very solid. The neck is good, with no fret buzz anywhere out of the box. No noticable bridge-lift. Holds it's tuning well. It will be one of my workhorse basses.steverc999

Reviews:
what a great bass! It's beautiful, light, and sonically versatile. the different pickup modes have 3 radically different tones which makes this bass right for lots of situations. I've seen some reviews that mentioned so issues with some fret roughness but mine showed up in perfect condition. I couldn't be happier with the bass. I also want to mention the customer service. I used the chat feature to confirm whether this bass came with a bag or case. the agent let me know that it does not but pointed me to the bundle that includes the bag and they set me up with a price I could not pass up. once I completed the purchase the item was shipped within 90 minutes. Other music stores I've done business with are not nearly as responsive. CME killed itShaun M.
This is a great short scale bass. It is a quality instrument. The finish is excellent. Playability straight out of the box was very good. Nicely set up.I love the pick-ups and the ability to blend the two with their individual volume controls. Great range of tones available. It looks good too ! Highly recommended. The only gripe is that at this price it should come in a hard case and not a bag !Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Really good guitar for nirvana type music. Only issue is that you need to set it up for it to be playable but once it's set up it's a great instrument. Pickups are pretty articulate but not to bright either just perfectly balanced. If you get one I recommend to lock the bridge down to improve its tuning stability and sustain. Note it DOES NOT sound like a kc style mustang, it has its own sort of sound to it. Fretboard is pretty nice same with the low radius which I prefer. Overall it's one of my favorite guitars I've ever bought and I cannot recommend it enough if you play grunge and nirvana music.Preston

Reviews:
This acoustic/electric bass sounds fantastic. I had been wanting to buy an ABG for a while, and when I picked this one up, it immediately felt good in my hands. The acoustic sound is good, but when I plugged it in, it was the pleasant surprise of the year. The sound is so warm, woody and clean. It has just the right amount of sustain, having a wooden, acoustic guitar-type bridge. I have been looking for this type of tone for a long time, I don't know why I never looked into an acoustic bass guitar. If you're looking for the opposite of a heavy, long-sustaining sound, check out one of these. For the price, you can't go wrong. This bass will makes you want to play more. It really is that good! I played this through a Fender Rumble 40, and also bought the amp.Mike J
This is not a bad bass just very soft no big sound at allBob
Este bajo tien muy buen sonido, el trato con el vendedor a sido excelente.colt45-es

Reviews:
My first factory-road worn instrument and I am a convert. It smells lovely and the relicing doesn’t look artificial. It definitely has that played-in feel without the issues of a knackered old bass. Sounds pretty good too! Tried out a few mustangs in the past but this is by far the nicest.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I've been a short scale fan ever since buying a Fender Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar SS bass many years ago. I was impressed with quality of the Squire and after changing the pickups (P J set) found it was the bass I always picked up to play. I had recently been looking at the Mustang but found it hard to justify buying since I already had a short scale bass. Then I saw the JMJ signature… road worn, '66 style with original style custom Seymour Duncan spilt coil pickups and a wider neck then my Jaguar. I bought one and after playing it for a few weeks I have no regrets. What a difference in the quality which I already thought was good in the inexpensive Squire. The neck feels great and the extra time spent on the fret work is obvious. I really love what they've done to create the "road worn" look, which something you can't get unless you're buying a Custom Shop instrument. All that you've heard about the JMJ Mustang is true. Killer tone that really cuts through the mix. This is my first Fender bass and after 30 years of playing I don't know why I waited so long. I guess I just wanted to be different… if you are serious about getting a short scale bass this is a great option you won't be disappointed.Shane
I've had the idea to buy a bass to help improve stagnation in my recording and writing process. I went in and looked at the wall of instruments and was impressed. The thing Sam Ash does right that others do not these days (ahem…GC) is have a variety of price ranges and styles to explore. The store rep came over offered me a cord to try them out and left me to do my thing. The reason why a variety was essential was because I was able to play basses on the lower price point, one that I initially planned to buy, but then a bright light shined on the only bass on the wall with flat wound strings and a relic finish. I plugged it in, let it rip, and it felt/sounded amazing. I put it back on the wall, picked up the cheap bass I wanted and it sounded clanky, put it back and kept picking up this bass on the wall, again and again. This is when the store rep came over to check on me, didn't pressure me, but validated me saying the feel on that one is like no other, then offered to work with me on price if I was interested. After I finally decided, there was some chatter among the other store reps that someone was buying "the relic!" I felt special. In the end, I went in Sam Ash on a budget and left with an instrument I'll keep for life and give to my kids. No bad decisions were made.DYLAN

Reviews:
I was looking around for an acoustic bass for about 2 years. I was always thinking I would end up with a Guild, as I have a Starfire II bass as my main. This bass does not disappoint! Great feeling and great sounding! I would recommend to anyone looking for a practice piece or something for light acoustic jams! IMO it is loud enough to play with an acoustic guitar player and some singing.Nicholas
It feels smooth and plays as good as a Martin. Nice design and good glossy finished.Aldo
I play guitar in addition to a few other stringed instruments, including bass. My interest in this bass was generated by visiting a local Sam Ash store and playing one first. And since I like my gear 'fresh out of the box', or ordered one online. This acoustic bass may be the best bang-for-the-buck instrument I've experienced in a long time! Yes, it's made in China — but every aspect of this bass is flawless. I ran one of these up against an actual upright bass — and the Guild was louder! I'd tried Taylor's GS Mini Bass, but due to the short scale and lack of string tension, the ones I tried did nothing but rattle. I finally concluded that you need the longer scale length and higher string tension to get the right sound. (Note: I have not yet tried the Guild Junior Bass.)Dan the Man

Reviews:
I love this bass. One of the best I’ve had. I would recommend it to anyone!Greg
Overall: I bought mine from another seller that does not accept reviews, so I'm writing here because I've been a happy customer of zz on other purchases…When I first got the bass in January 2018, I thought it sounded like a harpsichord! I hated it. It took a while to appreciate the sounds that this thing is capable of. It's very bright and punchy- not dead and muffled like the other basses I was used to. It's unforgiving of sloppy technique. It has forced me to improve my playing. I think it is louder than other acoustic basses- but acoustic basses are not very loud relative to 6-string guitars. The construction of the body is amazing- the way they internally braced the beautiful outer skin oozes with quality and attention to detail. The construction of the instrument makes it a very good value for the money.I play it almost every day. It hangs on the wall in our living room and I bust it out to play along with the music and tv shows in the house whenever the urge strikes- which is often. This thing is high quality, durable and has no issues at all after nearly three years of frequent use. I deducted 1/2 a star on quality because the decorative white band where the body meets the neck has an amateurish craftsmanship- it's a minor point… The finish of the wood is still in perfect condition. The tuning hardware doesn't rattle at all and the guitar stays in tune for days. The electronics have performed perfectly and I really wanted that on-board tuner. When it's plugged in, the sound is just like it is unplugged, only louder. I'm totally impressed with the plugged in sound. It's hard to express how much I've come to cherish this beautiful looking and sounding bass. (I have the sunburst color and the finish is mesmerizing.)
There is no Quality Control whatsoever on these Chinese made Takamine’s…. The first Bass they sent me came out with the electronics not working correctly…the tuner didn’t work correctly… AMS with their great customer service sent me out another Bass right away…fantastic job Preston….but unfortunately it had the same problems as the first one…tuner wasn’t working the same way the first one wasn’t working… I own three other Takamine’s,including a 20-year-old Japanese six string …it is a wonderful guitar….save your money for a Japanese made Takamine…. don’t be afraid to buy a used Japanese made Takamine…much ,much better quality than this crap they’re sending over from China…Kraz Keith Ka$h

Reviews:
I brought this for a signature book for our wedding, we wanted a playable momento, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. It's a great $88 guitar, we have guitars upwards of $500 so of course it would not be as good. Well built, tunes easily, buy needs frequent tuning. I think if we replace with high quality strings we would definitely take this guitar up a notch. Good for beginners and will definitely teach them tuning skills.Tasha S.
I purchase this bass being motivated by its price and rave reviews. Let me just say that when I received my bass today I was blown over at the fit and finish on this bass. It looks like a $500.00+ guitar! I've been playing it for hours and the deep bass is so sweet. The action is a tad high but I kind of like it that way. The great sound projection from this bass made me chuckle while I was playing because the bass made a silver cup I have on a wall mounted shelf rattle! Now that's impressive sound projection! I can't wait to plug in this bass to my friend's Ampeg that's a 1X15 ported bass amp. It should be wild! For the money this Best Choice acoustic had got to be the deal of a lifetime if you're in the market for an acoustic bass guitar.Jason
This is a great acoustic-electric bass. I originally purchased it to use as an alternative to plugging in my electric bass. I instantly fell in love with it. It stays in tune. The nut is of appropriate measurements and the frets are greatly positioned. I changed the factory installed strings with some acoustic bass strings and it sounded so nice! For the price, I didn't expect to get a good value, but I was surprised once I immediately opened the box. Good job Best Choice products!consumer
