Better than expected. Solid tone. Easy to play. Just right. Not too bright, just clean and tight, as a well made set should sound. Lows still great, even at the slightly lighter gauge. Don't get me wrong, they can get plenty bright if you want that. Just that they didn't seem as extra bright as some kinds try to be because they can with all the "super nano ultra special coated infused …but still hand crafted somehow" type stuff. Was never happy with previous sets on my 5 string. With these, I was able to set up with slightly lower action. This alone is worth it on my instrument. Finally, it's the bass it should've always been. Waited way too long to find these. I hope they keep making them. Probably going to order a few extra sets and try to keep a few on hand. As others point out, I'm not sure there's another set with these gauges for 5 strings. To me these are just right in a lot of ways.Person
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. Years of use have proved quality. I put them on my Jazz bass, my PJ, and my Squire, have used them on Samick, Music man, OLP, and Epiphone basses, all good.Scott
Been using the 8250-5M set for awhile. Wanted to try a lighter gauge. I get more guitar tones out of these. I was concerned I might overpower them since I'd used medium gauge for a couple of years. These are literally perfect on my Modern Player Jazz Bass V and 2 1993 Jazz Plus Vs. I bought the Modern Player new from Musiciansfriend. I think this light set is the set that it had on it. I use a pick, single and double thumb as well as two finger picking techniques. The E and B strings give a nice low end. I've been using Dean Markley Blue Steel strings for years but now I'm searching for alternatives because the Blue Steel strings are always out of stock. I ordered Pyramid strings because that's what Wolf Hoffman of Accept uses. However, I ordered the stainless steel strings because I'm allergic to nickel. These strings are great…very nice feel and the tone is very bright which I love. I've tried the strings on my Gibson Les Paul, Gibson Explorer and Jackson Soloist and the results have been great. I tried multiple gauges with good results. In addition, the strings have lasted a long time – took a long time to tarnish and the wound strings kept their tone. For years I bought and used a wide variety of guitar string brands, always interested to try just about anything and everything. Finally, I grew weary of the endless variety and my own randomness in brand selection. I did a controlled comparison over two months between the ten or so brands I tended to purchase most frequently, in order to determine whether in fact I had any clear preferences. Ernie Ball emerged as my top brand preference, for its combination of satisfying tone, reliable quality, attractive price and packaging (each string in an individual sleeve inside the sealed package). I have many guitars, and change strings frequently on all of them. I prefer the warmth of pure nickel wrap over nickel wound strings, so I always buy pure nickels (regardless of brand). I put the 10s on a Partscaster which wouldn't stay in tune or intonate with the Tuners I had on it. So I put some Grover Tuners on and reused the strings which had already been through torture. Mark Neill recommended these. I have been using Boomers for 30+ years and like them much. I put a set on a les paul and was pretty stunned that they sustained well and had a much more pleasing mid range and the highs were only down a little. Loved the balance. And no sqweekin with high gain!! So i put a set on a tele and started hearing some of the classic big fat tele tones. Those were all lighter sets. I've been using these strings for years… no one seems to know about them. I showed the salesperson at the cash register – tore the package open and he was amazed what "half-round" meant. These are the most flexible (style of playing and tone) and durable strings on the market! I can play Jazz, Country, Blues and Rock with them and sound top-notch. They don't have the "zip" sound of round-wounds, and are more lively than flat-wounds. They don't ever seem to corrode! Get 'em!FRANK
I bought some of these just because I was getting irritated by string squeak. Didn't fancy full flat wound. These strings are really great to play. They feel fantastic under the fingers and still have a great tone. I also love the wound g string as it has tweaked the intonation, making it much more accurate on the lower frets, in fact, all strings are more in tune on the lower frets (thicker strings I think). I used to use 10-48s on my telecaster style guitar but these 12-52s give a much better sound. If you're heavy on the bends then they will take a bit of adjustment and hardening of your fingertips! For the price I'm hoping they will last me well but so far… love em!Stefan

I come from the days when you bought a set of Gibson Sonomatics, threw out the low E, shifted them all up and used a banjo 5th for the high E. I bought a new fender telecaster and fell in love with the tone of it. I didn’t realize how much of an impact the strings had u til I changed them. I always found the metallic sound of new strings somewhat abrasive and too much. Round core strings don’t have that. There’s a warm, flexible, springiness to them. The tone is full sounding. It’s hard to describe. Anyway I had to go through so many packs of strings to figure out what kind of strings came on that fender. I’ve used pure nickel strings for many years now. I started using them to get a more vintage Roy Buchanan tone and after trial, error and much research I now use these strings. I used to use this gauge years ago and realised that when I saw them called the Jimi(Hendrix) set that this was the set they used to call the rock and roll 10s set. Unlike modern sets of 10s the G string is only 15 gauge and the bass E is only 38. (Roy Buchanan allegedly used to change the 10 to 9) This along with the pure nickel make the big bends that Jimi. Roy and Danny Gatton did possible. I love the sound of these strings and this gauge. They sound really authentic and can last a couple of months for me.Tom
Like I've stated in my other reviews, these are hands-down the best string I've ever used, and I've used pretty much every string out there. The pure nickel round-core ones really step up the game and you can notice a huge difference in normal hex-core strings, not to mention how these compare to any other string that isn't pure nickel. These are by far superior, and the regular round core nickel-wounds are a less expensive alternative to the pyramid hand-polished ones which are by far the best strings out there. The only difference is they aren't polished and are a tad rougher, as the hand-polished ones are smoother and get rid of a lot of finger noise -even though they're not flat wound!Antonio

so, I have taken up Jazz Guitar(I am mainly a bass player but do play guitar). Found a great deal on a jazz box, did a little work on it, now the strings; the real "jazz guys" use flatwounds usually. Back in the day (when I first started playing guitar) I used flatwounds and I never really liked them went to round wounds and I was happy. So, as I started this project I bought several different types of strings, mostly nickel plated. They were OK but not close to the "flatwound" sound (of course not they are round wound) even tried half round (I really did no like these) so I read that the pure nickel were pretty mellow. Well, they were but not that dead sound of flatwounds. I have used DR strings on my bass for several years after trying many different brands both stainless and nickel plated and the Low Rider Nickel are my favorite, period (I haven't tried the Pure Blues for bass yet ). So, being a DR fan I tried and liked the Pure nickel electric strings. They do squeak a bit but I really like the sound and, of course, the feel. Give them a try. I tried these on my '79 Ibanez AR50. The guitar has the great Super 70 pickups, and is of course a solid body in the LP style. As those pickups can be a bit 'hot' I was hoping to tame them down a little and yet keep the tone as clear as possible. So far I'm very happy with the results. Through a clean amp with the tone dialed back just a little, I'm really happy with the results. Now if my fingers would cooperate a bit, I think I'll be set for a while. Note that the 3rd string is a 24ga wound, but it is a very fine wind on it, so I'm getting very nice tone and hardly any 'squeak' when doing slides. YMMV!Charlie

I really didn't like these. Sounded like my guitar was stuffed with the contents of my underwear draw. Dadario nickel bronze are the exact opposite- metallic and jangly, but just as awful. Martin Monel are amazing. I'll never buy anything else having now tried all the nickel options out.Ralph H.
I use these strings on arch-top guitars amplified by magnetic pickups. I find that phosphor bronze strings won't balance well with the magnetic pickups, and regular nickel 12 gauge electric string sets are too bright and don't have a heavy enough low E string for my liking. These strings bring out a very good acoustic sound and produce ideal electric amplified tones.Jaime

I really like these strings. They are warm, and give what I believe to be the best tone on my Stratocaster's and Telecaster. I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. For years I've played flatwound strings, but when I bought my new Fender American Professional Jaguar I was taken by how lively and expressive the strings were! I left them on. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. BUY THESE ! I hadn't used Fender strings for 30 years . A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I went to a local music store and bought a pack of Fender's . as an experiment I wasted to see how long before one would break . SIX WEEKS ! .. THEY LASTED 6 WEEKS ! .. I hardly ever review stuff. Also, it is hard to write a review like this without sounding like a bit of an ass, but here goes: I've been playing for 20+ years. Lots and lots of time spent playing on and off stages in all manner of venues. These strings are hands down and without question absolutely, positively the best strings I have ever played. I have been playing .10-.52's for years and the Stringjoy set just kills. If it wasn't true that I will NEVER buy another brand of strings again, I would say that Stringjoy strings are too good to be good business. I change strings about three times LESS than I used to. And while I used to blow my b or e strings off my guitar routinely during shows, I (almost) never breaks strings now. These things have unparalleled life and longevity and sound snappy gig after gig after gig (well, back when we used to do that sort of thing). We've all played all the major brands. Frankly, I considered them interchangeable and just had dogmatic loyalty to certain brands for no particular reason that would change from time to time (availability?). If you don't have a lot of playing time under your belt bending strings and playing hard, you may not notice how good Stringjoy strings are. If you are a serious player, do yourself a favor and get a set (Hell, get 10 sets). You might not notice the difference immediately, but you'll notice the following month when you haven't broken a string and they sound just as good as they did when you strapped 'em on. These strings sound different, in a good way. They are warm sounding with no hint of piercing harmonics and they stay in tune for days. Normally I have to tune every day on the strat but not these. They feel super comfortable on the fingers. I've tried several brands and these will be my choice from now on. Next I'll have to try the acoustics. Usually when I discover a product that I like, they discontinue it. I hope that doesn't happen with the Curt Mangans.NCT
These strings sound about as good as any pure nickel set can, and at a great price for the quality you receive. Most importantly to me, they feel great. The wound strings are not too stiff even though they are larger than a regular 10 gauge set. I've always preferred a wound g string and these manage to have that in a comfortable sized set for me. Some pure nickel sets have trouble lasting but these have lasted me about as long as nyxl have. I highly recommendKaleb

A very good friend of mine uses these strings all the time; on all of his guitars. After playing few of his instruments, i understood why. In my opinion, these strings are pretty nice. They are smooth (not sticky feeling like flat wound chomes) and they seem to hold there tone pretty well. (At least for me) I have used these strings in the past but i couldn't appreciate them because i had a bad guitar. That's all changed now. I think i really like theseTC
Nickel electric guitar strings are the bright sounding electric guitar strings. You get the manufacturing process of DR 's specific string core winding technology the way they make their High Beam bass and guitar and guitar strings. DR pure Blues strings are as bright, loud and clear and well made both material and manufacturing wise as electric guitar strings can be. I wanted to try something different. I had EB slinkys on my Gretsch Jet. I decided to give the DR handmade Pure Blues a go. Personally I think these are better than the EB. They feel and sound different. Playing seems to take less effort than the EB’s. I would suggest do a google search on stringing roundcore strings. Apparently there are pitfalls if you don’t string them right. I’m going to order a couple more packs just in case. I’m very tempted to try the acoustic strings as well.DGB

Love these strings worth every penny. . Hendrix guitar tech knew his s*** when he installed these is all I can say . . Roger I believe was his name . .the G string is the main difference that gets you the right sound with the reverse headstock and reverse slant pickup on the Hendrix Stratocaster .. highly recommend this upgrade to any strat as they work great on my 2011 corona california made standard strat with mojotone pickups also that has the smaller normal headstock as well
I bought my first set of these because of the novelty. I bought many more because these are the only strings I want to use now. If I can't find them I replicate the gauges with single strings- but don't do this, buy the Fender strings. I mean, $5? Buy a case. Keep these available! These strings produce a balanced tone. Which is an incredible sound. Complicated chord voicings ring through with clarity (overdrive). I was immediately reminded of Ty Tabor's beautiful 'wall of tone' sound, filling a wide spectrum with rich, tight timbres. Users of short scale guitars– tired of the low E string flapping around like a rubber band and rattling all over the place? Try these strings. The low E is much thinner than most sets but doesn't lose any beef (IMHO).I'm not old, I'm Vintage.
These strings are awesome, not because of Jimi or the Voodoo thing but because for many years Fender stopped making this gauge. They were called 150 silver bullets back then and were my string of choice that became unavailable. Old sets were usually lightly corroded and unusable. Fender fixed that by finally corrosion proofing the packaging. Originally I bought these to use on my Fender Telecaster but these are now on my Les Paul, Stratocaster and my Epi. the price point made me try them, the feel and sound will keep me using them.warloc_frazmtn

Great strings. I use these on a US Fender Lonestar and they stay in tune forever and sound nice and fat. Sometimes I leave a set on for many months, and they still sound great, even after losing their initial brighness. I wish they had a set with .013 for the high E, but that is not too hard to find. These are great for building strength in our fingers, making it much easier to play guitars with "normal" strings. Also, you can really attack the guitar hard. Be sure to properly set up your guitar for these strings!Mike

I've used probably every kind of stings out there and always came back to these. And not just any les paul strings, the signatures. They are extra light on the treble end for bending and thicker on the bass side for more volume. Les picked these himself and they will make any cheap guitar sound good. They are so smooth you will be amazed. Many strings I play with feel like sandpaper compared to these. And the best part is they come vacuum sealed so they have an indefinate shelf life, so stock up! Red silk stockings? Not the wrong review, stay here. These strings have a wound ball end dressed in red silk, just for show? NO they help anchor the string, they help to prevent slippage of the windings and they look fantastic. These strings are not cheap but you do get what you pay for. They sound great and have a high degree of corrosion resistance – I have never broken one. Apart from my Strats and my Tele I use these strings on all other guitars. If you have a guitar costing hundreds if not thousands of pounds why would you put cheap strings on it? They are getting very rare so buy a set now and try them.cerieds1957

I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve
The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!Josh
I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. Between the tuning stability, the tension, the reliability, the playability and the string life, you cannot go wrong with these for baritone tunings!Daniel
