Unbelievable. This is NOT my Vox AC30, and nor is it my 100W Katana. However, for a package that is powered by batteries and can, quite literally, fit into the palm of your hand, the Katana Mini is simply fantastic. The amp models are brilliant and the delay (reverb) function is an excellent feature. On "clean" settings the volume of the amp is perfectly adequate and will fill a room with no issues, and on the "crunch" and "brown" settings, the amp was more than loud enough to fill a large room at 2/3 volume. Whilst I personally think that this is not quite enough for an advanced/intermediate players sole amplifier, I would completely agree that for a beginner, they would need no more than this. Having tried options from Yamaha and other brands, this is firmly my favourite battery powered micro amplifier for any level of guitarist and equipment, the tone is simply that good! The best way I can describe it is this – when I first plugged my PRS McCarty 594 into it, I was vaguely aware that I wasn't playing through my Vox. However, after five minutes or so, I had completely forgotten this wasn't a "real" amp, and had to keep looking down at the tiny box on the floor to believe it! Well done, Boss!Mr I. F.
Overall: I've been a bass player since 83 and just picked up the guitar a year or two ago. I purchased a guitar a few months ago and didn't have funds for an amp. So, after watching countless vids and reading many reviews, I favored this one the most. No local stores had a katana under 50w so, the payment plan zZounds had was perfect and received this little beast on Wednesday. With that said, no vid or review could compare to the hands on experience. For a 7w amp, this truly is a must have and the sound is 100% phenomenal. I'm personally not into effect pedals and what features this amp has, is just enough for me. The delay is just right as well as clean/crunch and brown features. The only problem that I have is, though it comes with 6 AA batteries, the adapter would've been more preffered.Other than that, I highly reccomend this amp to everyone, and would highly recommend zZounds payment plans (if your credit card qualifies) and customer service is great tooOne more thing, it's a lot smaller than I thought and that's one of the many reasons why I reccomend this to everyone.
I use it primarily as a practice amp at lower levels, but I'd feel confident doing coffee house gigs with it, and maybe smaller clubs too. It sounds warm and rich at low volumes, and the EQ is effective. All three voices are useful and I'm not left wanting. I have to make special mention of the delay. I adore reverb (including and especially spring reverb and gritty, trashy reverb of all kinds) but a simple delay circuit is way more useful in this amp. Doubling, slapback, echoes. The treble roll-off and fixed feedback are well-tuned. If you're using this for busking or other guerilla performance, you will suddenly realize that a single delay is worth more than a thousand reflections, because those reflections sound godawful* against naturally-occurring surfaces. *maybe awesome in a sound design way thoughChesterfleet

I usually use an AXE-FX III through 4000w of FRFR speakers so I am really spoiled tone wise. I didn't have huge hopes for this, but the second I turned it on the hissing white noise sound that came out made it clear that this amp was not for me. Even without anything plugged in and all of the knobs turned to zero, as much as I turned up the volume, that's how much noise I got. This DID not work at all for me with the Amplitube phone app, but did with the Amplitube computer app – with some significant drawbacks. The audio level was low, and when I turned it up to get some usable volume, that ever-present background noise just killed the tone. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this.B.G.

Having been messing around with an acoustic for far too many years I decided to treat myself to an electric, and started the search for an amp. I had a few options but went with the Crush 20RT and haven't regretted it. For its size the sound quality is great, and the eq controls allow you to get a nice range of distinct tones. Having the dirty volume away from the gain dial takes some getting used to, but isn't a deal-breaker, and if you find the rather small switch to swap between clean and dirty channels a bit fiddly, you can pick up a foot switch which connects nicely on the back of the amp. Built in reverb is nice, but if you are big on using reverb I'd imagine you'd want to get a dedicated pedal. Tuner seems hit and miss, and again more accurate results will be obtained via a stand alone product. Both good features to have, especially as a starter amp. Overall, highly recommended!Kevin E.
This is definitely the best sounding practice amp I've ever used. The gain channel has several different levels of gain, all sound great. Anywhere from a slightly crunchy overdrive sound to sizzling distortion. I've never had an amp this size handle metal tones so well. The clean channel handles distortion pedals well and maintains the tone of the amp, and if you wanna add a little something extra, putting an overdrive in front of the dirty channel really pushes the mids through. All very impressive for an 8 inch speaker.
The big downside to this amp… is that its deceptively loud. At bedroom volume, it sounds kinda like a shoebox. but bump the volume knob even just a little bit and the full, rich tone punches you in the face, far too loud for playing in an apartment at 10pm. Kinda defeats the point of buying a small practice amp. The clean channel is even louder than the dirty channel.
I'm not knocking off any stars from my review for this however, because it has a headphone jack that actually imitates the speaker response quite well. So if you wanna play this amp late at night, plug in some headphones or you'll wake up the neighbors.

Now let me first state that Guitar Center is the only place I'd buy this from, to try it out and return it to the store. Guitar Center is the BEST. This little amplifier is the WORST. I bought this specifically for it's cabinet output and the fact that it can run on a 9 volt battery. I own four other mini amplifiers, two of them are pedals and the other two are Blackstar Fly 3 (with the extension cabinet.) Here's the crux of my review: The Blackstar Fly 3 is louder and sounds far better than the Orange Crush Mini, even if that Crush Mini is powering a larger speaker cabinet (a 2×10, in this case.) So yes, two 3" speakers in the Blackstar are louder, and the sound quality is far superior to the Orange Crush Mini driving a 2×10" cabinet. The Crush Mini's 3" speaker is unusable, sounds very tinny and is very low volume. Now, I also have two pedal amps that run on 9 volts, an Electro Harmonix 5mm and a VHT Redline 6. The 5mm is amazing, and the VHT is very good also. So if you want to drive a cabinet with a pedal size amp you can put in your pocket, try the Electro Harmonix 5mm. The VHT Redline is also very good and has the added features of an aux in jack and headphone out jack. An adapter cable to use a battery can be had (I have a few of them.) Avoid the Orange Crush Mini, the Blackstar Fly 3 is far superior.John

A brilliant wee amp, which packs a hell of a lot more than the 20w on the spec. You can really crank it. I was sceptical before I bought it, seeing it’s more marketed to the ‘metal’ players among us. I play some metal, but hard, bluesy overdriven tones is what I like to play more than metal. It can really go for the scooper mids metal tone as well as a lower end bluesy tone. So it caters for all. I bought this as a little practice amp that I can use primarily as a clean pedal platform at home for late night playing, and it works fantastic for this. Better than I'd hoped. It's very, very loud, so I used an EQ pedal in the FX loop with the level slider all the way down. The Orange dirt sound isn't totally my thing but I do like to mess around with it now and then, and this thing scratches that itch without having to spend a bunch of money on a bigger Orange head. Quite surprised at how great this is. I've tried some other solid state clean pedal platform solutions, and this Micro Dark has probably been the best of them. For context, I hit it with a Friedman BE-OD, Wampler Pantheon, & Spark Booster and all sound just as they are intended to sound. It's a great amp for very little money for sure!KC
Sound: As a stand alone amp it's best suited for people that play classic rock, hard rock, acoustic music, Doom metal, Stoner metal, Sludge metal, Jazz or anything that you're looking for a warm fuzzy sound. Features: Most useful,1. The FX loop.2. 2 extra gain stages.3. The compact size.4. 20watts.Least useful,1. The headphone jack.2. The mid shift control, a tone control would have been quite a bit better. Ease of Use: You can get a good tone out of this head depending on what sound you're looking for. Ex….. I'm a metal player so I put an Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini in front of the amp to tighten up the sound and get rid of all the muddy bass tone and I put a 10 band EQ in the FX loop the cut boost the frequencies that suit my sound. I also play through at least a 112 cab, anything less sounds lousy these days. Quality: As for the construction I have no complaints. Value: Actually if I had to do it all over again I would have went with the Joyo ZOMBIE which has more features and sounds far better for metal or had forked out a little more for a Monoprice amp which is a full tube amp. The headphone jack isn't the most idea to because it has an emulated Orange 412 cab sim on it and just like the volume control is very touchy.4. If you go on YouTube to get a review of this amp please be careful who you go to because a lot of the reviews make this amp sound far far better than it really is. When playing high gain this amp without the right pickups, speakers, micing placement, post processing and/or pedals used that the reviewers conveniently never mention will sound way too bassy, fizzy and muddy. It's not to say this is always a bad, I know people that love this amp for doom, stoner and sludge metal for high gain and other that love it because they're not modern metal players that need a tight response.5. In order to get this amp to play modern metal that actually sounds good(not an Ola Englund post processed video with great pickups and speakers) you'll need a Tube Screamer(or a good Tube Screamer clone), at least a 112 cab and preferably an EQ ion the FX loop to iron out any bad frequencies. A noise gate would be a plus because when driving with all this stuff your rig may make a lot of unwanted noise.6. Only one channel, but you can't always expect much for an inexpensive amp.7. Lastly it would have been good if Orange included a aux in for jamming with other song and drum beats.

I play a Rockerverb onstage and figured hey I'll grab a micro Terror for the studio when I'm working on demoes and practicing. Everyone raves about how it does the Rockerverb thing so hey why not? Don't bother. At best it's a little practice amp but I honestly like my Hotone Heart Attack better. This terror is kind of scratchy and just a little league sound. I love Orange amps but this one pales in comparison to the classics. I guess you get what you pay for but I expected more than this.jq127
I bought this with a ppc108 cabinet – as my review for that cab says, I was very surprised how good and powerful they are together. I thought I would eventually get a larger cabinet for it, but i would only need to if using it for a live performance with a full band. (might be able to get away with ppc108 with a quiet drummer…) For just playing by myself or jamming with other guitar/bass players it is more than enough. This amp can get you great classic rock tone – but I play all styles of music and generally more jazz and hard rock sometimes into the metal range – and this sounds great for that as well. For full on metal you might want to add your favorite distortion pedal but the tube overdrive of the amp itself sounds fantastic! I haven't tried myself but this thing can drive a 4X12 cabinet pretty well according to videos that I've seen. It really sounds like a slightly scaled back version of a full amp head. for the price you will not be disappointed. You could definitely use this for amateur recording – probably professional recording as well but by then you've probably got a bigger amp. Any one who wants a tube amp to mess around with but doesn't have a lot of money to throw around should check this out – or if you just want something very portable. Note that this is a hybrid, it has solid state power and one tube for the preamp, but don't be afraid, it sounds great! It's louder than you might expect and although with the ppc108 it dosen't have extreme low end, it still has good low tones when used with six string guitars in standard as well as C tuning and I have used it with an 8 string guitar, which flops a little on the low string but with a larger cabinet would probably be fine. I highly recommend this amazing tiny amp. Watch some youtube videos if you aren't convinced. For portability the ppc108 cabinet works very well with this and still sounds very nice, but again you can power larger cabinets including 4X12.valvetuber42

If you're expecting an amazing Marshall sound, you might want to invest in some of the bigger amps Marshall has to offer. If you think you can get a concert level sound out of this little guy, you will not be the happiest person. However, that level of "high" expectation would not be very reasonable or even realistic for such a little amp. This is a very cute, small amp that will help you plug your guitar so you can practice quietly in any room in your house without annoying your wife. It will distort if you crank the volume all the way out, and if you're used to the full sound of a bigger Marshall (like I do) it might make you feel like you're hearing your guitar over an old telephone (just my opinion). However, if you calibrate your instrument volume & tone you can find a happy medium. With that said, for the price it is a very nice solution to practice and if the sound seems too weak for you, you have the choice of putting headphones. I personally use it just for practice on the fly, it serves it purpose, but then again I was not expecting the best sound output. So I am happy with the purchase.BeeZee
It's basically a toy amp. I can see it being used as a portable amp for non-serious performance. Personally, I like it for a quick jam and for (relatively) quiet practice in my apartment setting. Won't disturb my neighbors but it does get noticeable at the highest volume. That and the overdrive knob are the two main controls. By default it just does a clean sound but overdrive lets you toggle in some gain for that distortion. It has a good look that definitely models after its bigger brothers.Rick
I don't know what some of you guys expect from this thing, but be realistic: it's an inexpensive 5 inch tall, 1 watt amp. It's not designed for anything but sitting in a chair and entertaining yourself or a couple of people. Within that context, I enjoy this thing and sometimes get it off the shelf and play around with it for awhile. Also, when I owed somebody a 1 minute long riff for his podcast and my main amp was getting some regular tech service, I plugged my American Standard Strat into this thing, mic'd the amp, used the OD channel with the volume and tone both on 10, played the part, then added tons of bass, reverb, and chorus to it in post, and it sounded great and nobody ever knew that I recorded the part using a 5 inch tall amp. It is what it is as long as you don't expect the world.Steve

Wasn't sure about this little guy – – but the one I received was in pristine shape, with power brick and carry handle. I power it with 6 rechargeable AA Lithium batteries – and it'll run x 6 hours easy without recharging. I play an acoustic guitar (i installed a Fishman rare earth pickup) in a small orchestra with a piano, trumpets, trombones, saxophones, etc, and only need to run at about 35% max volume to blend in well with the group. I've taken up giving lessons in my home and, in other locations and, dragging around even a moderate size amp was not in my plans. I did some shopping and, came up with the Micro Cube as my answer, WOW what a feature filled little powerhouse! I debated going to just a plain small practice amp but, after I tried one it reminded me of trying to play through an old transistor radio. Very bland boring sound and, only a push button to get an overdrive sound that sounded pretty bad. This Roland unit sounds Fantastic at 3w and, with only a 5" speaker, I don't know how they do it but, it's Great!! The convenience of battery power is something that I really enjoy also. Take it anywhere! The FX sound Super, amp models are a nice touch and, even a tuner. The 1/8" input is a nice touch to jam with backing tracks or any type of sounds. Taking this to lessons is sooo much more handier than a 30lb. amp. There is only a tone control but, it is really all you need to get the sound you want. The memory function is a handy feature so save preset sounds for each amp model. The only thing I haven't tried is to plug a Mic in and, check it out but, I definately will and, I'm betting that the results will be positive there also. I'm soooo glad I spent the extra dinero and, went with this amp. I'm very satisfied and, definately recommend this anyone looking for small portable amp for practice or any other reason to have a light weight amp that sounds really good. I don't think that I would run a bass through it but, at low volume I wouldn't be surprised that it could handle it. In general this is a great little amp. It is loud, but its frequency range is narrow. I would expect something so small to be weak on bass, but I am surprised at how poor the high frequency is. I have to turn the tone all the way up to make it sound like a regular amp. I will try different speakers and the line out into a different amp to see if the poor high end is either the speaker or amp. The headphone output sounds much better, so I believe the issue is not in the internal electronics. In general I would recommend this amp. So much that I am buying another to give to my son in college as a dorm amp. He is interested in the headphone feature, which sounds very good. As a practice amp this little thing does a great job. The effects are better on some settings than others. but I think there are more effects on this amp than other brands. The portability is great. The battery life it pretty good for how loud it is. With the line input you can not only play along to songs, unaffected by the guitar effects, but it turns your phone into a loud jam box. I’ve known about these for years but never pulled the trigger until now, I wished I would’ve gotten it sooner. I ordered the Yamaha on Saturday afternoon and it arrived on Tuesday morning, great job AMS! I opened it and immediately plugged in my SG. I was very pleased with the sounds from this amp. After watching many reviews I thought I’d skip the clean, crunch and lead channels, I went straight to the Brit hi and Modern channels and I wasn’t disappointed! Studio quality tone and very responsive to volume controls on the guitar. Most importantly, this little amp makes you want to play – highly recommend it!
Overall: overall – maybe the best sounding low wattage amp ever. only small difference in sound between this & a tube amp. weak point is lack of features. they really skimped. twice the price of other compared to other practice amps that have way more features. you're really extra paying for tone here.pro's – * truly terrific tones* even if you have a tube amp that sounds good at whisper volumes (i have a 15w egnater tweaker) it's so convenient to be able to play this on top of your desk.* clean and modern settings are fantastic. i don't use the other amp settings much, but they sound great as well. the only setting i don't like is brit hi.* effects sound good* tap tempo* good tuner* the features are weak* pricey – other practice amps have many more features. they sound pretty good themselves (just not quite as nice as this). so if features are important to you, get something else. digital amps these days all sound not bad to downright good.* are the tones here so much better that it's really worth double other companies' amps? honestly hard to say, but this one does sound the best* can't save settings* one knob control of all mod effects is really limiting* can use the software to tweak settings and effects, but as soon as you unplug, you lose them* max volume on delay is occasionally not enough. usually it's ok. but sometimes, you want a little more & doesn't have it* as mentioned, brit hi setting not that great* the name "modern" might be misleading. i mentioned that modern sounds good, but, it doesn't have enough gain to get you into mesa rectifier range. you're going to need a pedal for that.A
Overall: I have been wanting to leave a review of the THR5 for awhile now. Prior to purchasing it, I had used a 10-15 watt Orange Crush Amp & a Blackstar Debut amp. Neither of those 2 amps were exactly what I wanted but for the price, served a purpose. I was hesitant on purchasing the THR5 because it was twice as much. I have no regrets. If you have not had the chance to try the THR5 in person, video reviews will not do it justice. What I was looking for was a small amp that had sufficient effects built in so that I didn't need to hook up any pedals during an impromptu practice session. The Hall reverb is my favorite and was worth the price alone if it was the only reverb included. All of the amp models sound great, although I tend to only use the clean channel or crunch. Crunch can be toned down to remain clean but adds saturation without becoming distorted. Another bonus was that with the included software, additional compression and gate effects can be adjusted via a computer. These can be set as defaults for when after the amp is unplugged from the computer. I have used it with pedals and loopers as well. Its built well, metal casing. Aesthetically pleasing to sit on a shelf. Extremely lightweight and portable. Honestly this is the best practice/bedroom/portable amp that I have ever owned. I bought this amp to use in a limited space and at a low volume for very low cost. It obviously doesn't compare to a normal size amp in quality but for being a practice amp it is perfect. Many reviews across the web say it loses power or sounds bad after a short time, but its literally as simple as changing the battery in my case. The manual even says to change the battery if there is an issue with sound, and the battery that comes with it isn't really the best and doesn't last long. It has great sound at a low and mid range volume for the little power it actually has but when you ramp it up it does sound a little distorted but not bad at all for $23-$29. While you certainly could use it in the studio for certain alt/auxiliary tones and/or layers and achieve fantastic results (producer/artist discretion advised), It's not meant for that. It's meant purely for being able to enjoy playing electric, untethered, while wandering about randomly and/or practicing. …Whether outdoors or indoors. …At home, in the park, around the neighborhood, at a camp site or a BBQ, wherever. Perhaps even during your breaks at work. It's not meant for playing in a full band situation (especially with drums), nor is it meant for getting a half-stack sound (or even normal combo-amp sound), for a fraction of the price, during a high-end studio session or full-on concert. mini-amp works great as a travel amp, or playing early in the am when ppl are sleeping lol it fits perfectly inside my hardcase, along with my electric guitar, headphones, tuner, cables, etc. performs as expected.. dont look to be amazed at its performance lol but for practice/travel its the perfect amp. has a heavy grind for chunky metal riffs. doesnt pick up the p[inch harmonics that great, but they do come through. the clean setting is great, too, and for a tiny little fkr it really kicks pretty good! had my finacee yelling at me to "turn that fkn thing down!" so, lol, it hits pretty hard for a small little guy.. but like i said, dont expect it to put out the tones of a line 6 spider IV or a Marsall half-stack cuz it aint capable for that. it isnt designed for gigs lol so dont expect that kinda sound. but, i love this mini-amp; its my new best friend!da.davc.mcoumykeiu

The amp is built from a good quality plastic. It's pretty cheap, it's Marshall and it looks like a reduced copy of a real Marshall stack. Awesome Product. The only mini amp that can hold its own when playing with an acoustic guitar. All of the other mini amps I've experienced are either drowned out by an acoustic, or sound horrible when cranked loud enough to play with one. This amp can play with an acoustic or quiet electric and still sound great. Very portable and durable (I have dropped mine multiple times and it still sounds great). I very strongly recommend this amp for anyone who would like to bring an electric on a vacation or somewhere else.
OK I will write something none did about use of this "amp", at least I didnt notice so sorry if someone wrote that : I checked on some gear forum question from a guitarist–he tried to connect this MS-4 to his amp as preamp boost, he said he got no sound, sohe got advice to mod thing(you have to open back of amp and solder certain jumper to get direct out–but headphone is not usable after that !)And one guy told that he got sound through headphone to another amp but it was nogood sounding ! So…both was wrong, first of all I quite intensely play and practice guitar every day, now some about sound…So :1. You have to put jackin just a half cause headphone out is stereo, 2.I have plugged thing to my Bugera 5V–5watts tube amp-which have excellent sound just lacking little push…so this MS-4 have provided that push, it serves excellent as a preamp boost and gives to your amp (specially good if you have dark sounding tube amp) Marshall caracter, so amp turns into Marshall and rally sound as you are playing tube Marshall amp–no kidding here, crystal clear strong punchy cleans and also with this you can overdriven tubes really nicely, great also to give you lead channel! So you dont need boost predal if you use this for an amp ! And you dont have to mod this amp, just use this headphone thing ! You can use micro cube roland in same way–rec/hedph out to another amp ! I picked this up for my son so he could practice around the house. Killer stocking stuffer! When the son is away the dad will now play. I started playing my Mustang Bass through this and it did the job. It's a small amp, not a practice amp. This is perfect for camping trips, rocking at the office or kicking it in the backyard. Took a chance on this and purchased it without every playing it. Watched video reviews on it and gave it a shot. Yes, I know that it's small in size, smaller than a kids lunchbox but I hoped it'd produce quality sound and what I got was muddy sounds at increased volumes. It's not clear sounding and my goal to play through an amp is to sound good and I felt if I actually played this in front of people, the muddyness would make me sound amateurish. So, for what you pay for this, yes, you get amplified but it's not real great quality, unless you're a metal player because you don't get a clean sound from this. This less than 20$ & runs on 1 9v battery or 9v plug in the wall.(transformer not included)& Holy Friggin' Smokes does this baby perform.Monster overdrive tone & super bright, clean tone.Headphone input.Probably exceeds 60 decibels,which is beyond city ords. could get U a fine it's so damn loud. My Strat Squire sounds soooo Fender good out of this lil sucka & my electric/acoustic, sooo crisp.Ultra light to carry around.I've been using the JOYO mini,I love it,plug in,no chord,fun but this Fender mini is a bit more.More tone options and louder.I've yet to find out how quick it eats batteries. This amp is FUN. The sound quality is great, and it is packed full of amp models, effects, and pre programed drum loops. That combined with a 40 sec looper, and it's become the most effective practice tool I own. And it's so simple, I don't need a bunch of equipment, it's all in the amp. This amp has a great range of sounds, including some earthy grungey stuff, and weird vocoder setting. The most all-round versatility of this unit is a combination of the Rhythm section, the separate input and control of the Mic, and the Looper section. With up to 10W of output this unit can entertain more than just yourself. I like the tri-select of output power, (especially when the missus wants to watch tv!). The footswitch to select between effects, rhythm and looper is more essential rather than desirable, yet it cost me another $100+ to buy, which seems like a lot for just switch (although it's heavy duty). The only other downside is the rhythm tempo switch, which needs a guess in the time between button presses to alter timing. This would be better done and made more repeatable with a rotary switch. This could be one of Line 6's most awesome products to date. I needed a good practice amp for in-home jamming and lessons I could take with on the go. I wasn't expecting much from the built in settings, but there are 5 amp models (including acoustic), basic effects and even a distortion pedal noise gate and tuner LED integrated. The headphone jack and guitar, aux and input are useful as well. Probably the best feature is the battery powered option which allows you to go mobile for jamming in the park or just not dealing with being plugged into the wall. Some downfalls however include some need to roll back the sound channel when switching models (followed by a pop sound), and a few other minor things. Some people complain about Line 6 sometimes stoic amp models, but they work here because its a small form factor, inexpensive and the expectation isn't much. I only briefly checked out the portable amp models market, but this is got to be a great amp for starters or even serious players that want to improve or have some portability.JZman
Much more positive than negative. Interesting that Line 6 has changed their products (at least this one) to match Peavey's way of thinking. Turn this amp on, effects are on – just like Peavey's. My Spider Jam – turn it on – comes on clean, the way it should be. Anyway, the amp sounds good. My MP3 player, mics, and guitars all sound good on this amp. The battery power aspect is nice (no power cord needed – but adapter is supplied). All the effects work well. The low end is gutless, but you can feed it into a sound board if you need to. For an easy, take-along, practice amp, it is great and I would recommend it. The on-board tuner is nice also, but I have to crank my guitars all the way up to get it to work well – then do not forget to turn your guitar back down, and hit the INSANE button – because you will know why they labeled it INSANE – poor little amp sounds like it is about to blow it's knobs all over the room! It will get loud! For a student, or busker (as they say across the pond), this amp would be a very good choice. If Line 6 would change their turn-on sequence, and put in a long-throw, polycone speaker – this amp would easily dominate the mini-amp market. It needs a better speaker. Remember Line 6, and anyone else who might be reading this – always, always, always, always put your money into the speaker(s) – that is what you hear! For the money – great buy!
The Micro Spider III is my first amp and was just lucky that this was the practice/portable amp sold at the guitar store that sold me an Epi Special II guitar a year ago, because one week later I was starting an intro guitar class with a dozen acoustics and (not knowing what I was doing) it only took me minutes with the acoustical setting to dial in a comparable sound! Within 2 months, I bought a MIM Strat and now with these three items I can play just about any sound from Buddy Holly to blues, to surf, to Jimi, to Black Sabbath!!!!!!! With settings from clean to metal, crunch, and insane and 3 adjustable modulations and 3 adjustable ambiance effects, not to mention all 3 EQ knobs, I'm still finding new sounds and I practice up to 4 hours per day! I crank it up in my cabin and outside and can keep it very quiet in my apartment in the winter with mega hours on it and no issues. The 4.5 for quality is due to the not so great built-in tuner, that I quickly bought a Korg tuner to assist my learning ears. Now that I have experimented with all sorts of genres, and now an intermediate type of player, I'm defining my specific sounds that I want to specialize into the future much faster than I could have possibly dreamed of… basically because of the wide array of music I can play with this amp!!! Thanks Line 6 for an awesome product like this. I'll never be able to play a tube amp quietly or out in the woods, so this is a keeper. As others have written, I too chuckled when opening the box. It’s smaller than I thought it’d be. However, it can crank. Teamed it up with an Orange PPC12 and scared the neighbors dog. I play a Rockerverb onstage and figured hey I'll grab a micro Terror for the studio when I'm working on demoes and practicing. Everyone raves about how it does the Rockerverb thing so hey why not? Don't bother. At best it's a little practice amp but I honestly like my Hotone Heart Attack better. This terror is kind of scratchy and just a little league sound. I love Orange amps but this one pales in comparison to the classics. I guess you get what you pay for but I expected more than this.jq127
I bought this with a ppc108 cabinet – as my review for that cab says, I was very surprised how good and powerful they are together. I thought I would eventually get a larger cabinet for it, but i would only need to if using it for a live performance with a full band. (might be able to get away with ppc108 with a quiet drummer…) For just playing by myself or jamming with other guitar/bass players it is more than enough. This amp can get you great classic rock tone – but I play all styles of music and generally more jazz and hard rock sometimes into the metal range – and this sounds great for that as well. For full on metal you might want to add your favorite distortion pedal but the tube overdrive of the amp itself sounds fantastic! I haven't tried myself but this thing can drive a 4X12 cabinet pretty well according to videos that I've seen. It really sounds like a slightly scaled back version of a full amp head. for the price you will not be disappointed. You could definitely use this for amateur recording – probably professional recording as well but by then you've probably got a bigger amp. Any one who wants a tube amp to mess around with but doesn't have a lot of money to throw around should check this out – or if you just want something very portable. Note that this is a hybrid, it has solid state power and one tube for the preamp, but don't be afraid, it sounds great! It's louder than you might expect and although with the ppc108 it dosen't have extreme low end, it still has good low tones when used with six string guitars in standard as well as C tuning and I have used it with an 8 string guitar, which flops a little on the low string but with a larger cabinet would probably be fine. I highly recommend this amazing tiny amp. Watch some youtube videos if you aren't convinced. For portability the ppc108 cabinet works very well with this and still sounds very nice, but again you can power larger cabinets including 4X12.valvetuber42

What an awesome little amp! And plug the line outs into something bigger and you can well and truly deafen yourself with sonic pleasure. Pretty straight forward to use but you do need to watch your levels when changing amp models – they can vary a lot. Longer battery life would be a bonus and I'll def need a little bag for it. When I buy something that does so much but I don't need to read any manuals to operate it I know I've made the right choice. Sounds are fantastic, my favourite amp so far is the boutique, it feels very natural, not boomy like my previous desktop type amp. The effects are great, particularly the reverbs. I find myself taking it out of our little 'work from home office' while my wife or the kids are in there and noodling in the living room or the kitchen with it because I haven't had to faff around with power cables 🙂 It has a flat setting so I use that when I'm playing around with modeller settings for gigs rather than dragging out my powercab at home. The app is really easy to use and opens up a nice compressor plus cab options etc. The clincher for me over the smaller units is the 1/4 inch line outs, I can chuck it in the car and it's there as a back up incase my gigging amp packs up. I'm no bass player but I play a bit at home and this sounds way better than going into a guitar amp or using a bass amp on amplitube on my pc. This is easily the best music purchase I've made in recent years and I'm playing more music because of it 🙂Archie W.
I have a Marshall 1974x that I have not touched since I bought this THR30II. There is no real comparison but this Yamaha is so addictive. Clean tones are superb the crunch channel in classic mode is a my fave. The onboard effects are really good. I just shelled out e few Bob on a thorny flanger and this has a perfectly good flanger built in. The hall reverb is beyond good. In summary rock tones are good but cleans/crunch are fantastic. I trusted other reviews of this amp against things like positive grid/katana etc but this just hits the spot. I love playing the slow Peter Green blues stuff it’s perfect. It’s not a one trick pony it has loads of nice tones perfect for home use at friendly volumes than the Marshall 18 watt. Highly recommend.HappyYammyTHR p.

This is not a stadium amplifier, or strong enough for a concert hall. It is a great small amplifier for practicing when overwhelming volume will wake everyone in the house or start the neighbors complaining. It has great sound and dissolves any fuzz or squelch. The controls are easy to use and adjust with great range for such a small amp. I bought the amp for an inexpensive junior guitar (38") so i could practice and improve my skill after a 3 decade hiatus. I did not want to invest a lot of money only to find that I was no longer interested in really stepping out. It is perfect for me to relearn, and to sample some new music with an electric acoustic guitar. I made a very good choice, and recommend this amp if you want to practice on your front porch or in your living or rec room. The sound is incredible for a one ampere peak to peak amplifier. Much louder and more defined than one would expect. The fidelity is excellent. A great buy for a small start without having to take out a 2nd mortgage.roberwit14
It's a novelty item I keep on my desktop. I can actually play my guitar through it, but it doesn't produce "good" tone. However, it does produce a tone that sounds 'cheap' but not horrible if you make a little effort to 'dial in' the best sound you can get working with what you've got. I collect mini amps and added this one to the shelf. I did plug it in and as expected, not much in the way of power or tone, but I had no expectations beyond looks. It is nicely detailed with corners, handle and grille with logos. It's is what it is. A detailed scale model of a Fender Amp. Fits perfectly into the collection. Not likely to plug it up again. Equally poor on AC or Battery. Rated 5 as collectible replica. Rated 1 as an amplifier. Hence the 3. Wouldn't recommend as a guitar amp.Mike

I love the looks of my little Fender tweed amp and it lives on a table in my home office. I like it for my workbench to test guitar wiring. Most of all, it's become my go to amp when I just want to kick back and play an acoustic-electric or an electric guitar…anywhere. It is truly portable. By the way, I play Taylor's, Gibson's, and Fenders and they sound fine through it. You can dial in a decent clean sound or dirty it up a bit, but come on guys, what do you expect from 2-3" speakers and a 9volt battery. Personally, I think it sounds good. I have tube amps for all the sounds I need. Sometimes I just want to make some noise and I can move the little tweed amp to the edge of the table, plug a 36" cable into the amp and guitar and turn it on and play. Pretty simple. By the way, it also has a 1/4" jack for headphones. It will take a 9volt power supply but I don't have one. It's been living on the Fender battery that came with the amp and doing fine. By the way, it's lightweight but solidly built. It's a plastic looking toy. It's real tweed baby.Bart
I really like this because of how it looks. It is functional, but there's basically limited control. Right now it's in my kitchen. I can plug in a guitar and hear myself play drills but trust me, the sound quality is so bad you don't want to push this unless your hearing is extremely twisted somehow. The controls will confound you. Your money could be better spent, but Musician's Friend has it for less than anyone, anywhere else I've seen it, but if the few extra duckets aren't too big an issue for you and you like to collect stuff related to your favorite thing in life (anything music) I would buy it again just to have it to look at. But if it will be the only amp you'll have you'll be sorry. Maybe look at a Pignose. Those are cool and the sound will make you happy with your purchase. Theyre battery operated, lightweight and more. This thing isn;t much more than a toy for children of all ages though except a child might not be inspired to pursue guitar playing after hearing it just once. Too discouraging, it would be, I'm positive. If you don't have another amp and money's tight save a little longer or finance the Pignose. This thing is just a pig, period. But it's cool looking.WFnN
