1. Fishman Fluence Modern Hb3 9 String Guitar Pickup Set
Product Details:
The multi-voiced fishman fluence modern humbuckers come in a 9-string format featuring three distinct voices. starting with the revolutionary fluence core, this set creates the world-class colors have come to expect from great guitar pickups, then goes even further, with tones ’ve never expected in an extended range guitar. these pickups work equally well when applied to 8-string multi-scale guitars.
Reviews:
Overall: These have a bottom end growl like no other pickups I've played, very touch and attack sensitive, no matter how low I tune there is no mud, the neck pickup is the best I've ever played , fluid , smooth with definition , I play Duncan Jupiter's and they kick ass , the Fishmans are easily on par with them with a growling voice I've never heard from a passive pickup , I like EMG's but the Fishmans are hand's down better. Installation will be a bit frustrating for first timers and novices , I installed them in 2&1/2hrs That included modifying my Epiphone Les Paul Custom Special , the pot holes , were too small as was the input jack hole , I did have to order Long Shaft pots as the included pots are short shafts , If you like EMG's you'll love these. I gave the fetures a low score because they should make them plug and play at this price.Dennis
These pickups are amazing for someone who wants to run with one bass and wants pickup options. The different voicings are truly different and can change the sound quite well, also considering they can be coil split. These are perfect for the guy who has one bass or wants to use one bass and is a session guy. The voicings and ease of change on the fly make it ideal for studio work. I would say though, if there's a specific tonal sound you are going for, I would buy the pickups that beat give you that tonal sound. Are there better single coil jazz bass pickups? Yes. Are there better active soapbar pickups out there? Yes and no, depending on what you like. But what this does is give you very good pickup sounds for the different styles and voicings it offers, and pretty much puts 6 basses into one bass (if you consider the coil splitting). If you already own multiple basses, this may not be for you as it may not add to your Arsenal unless you're looking for a singular bass to travel with. But if you own a single bass and are wanting more tonal options, this is the way to go. One thing to note, I did have to route out just a little bit the pickup cavities in my Jackson JS3VQ bass, so do check your pickup cavity size. I didn't need to remove much though and they fit.Matthew P.
I just installed these in my baritone Viper tuned to DropG and hoooolly ***!! I expected nice articulation and clarity but I didn't think they'd sound THIS good. These are truly next-level and I don't think anything else comes close. The lows are just nasty, the tightness, bite, the attack…it's just drool-worthy and I can't put the guitar down. The definition is consistent across every string but nothing ever sounds harsh or treble-y. Most 'metal' pickups are all about output and I've never understood that. Too hot, too boomy, too compressed, etc. Both voices are extremely useful and the neck never gets muddy. Cleans are nice and flat, nothing in the EQ is 'boosted' so it's the perfect platform for layering effects. I was skeptical about all the hype and rave reviews but I stand humbly corrected. It's all true and I can't recommend the Fishman Fluence Moderns enough. They are extraordinary.Cody
2. Lace Aluma X-Bar 4.5 – 9 Or 10 String Pickup In Black Anodised
Product Details:
Designed for 9 string extended range guitars, the x-bar pickups have a broad, sensitive, wide band tone, with loads of warmth, clarity and headroom. the articulate low end is tight, but not bassy, and keeps your tone out of the mud-zone. the attack is smooth when playing both rhythms, riffs and leads, and the liquid crystal tone shines through for large chords. developed for straight or fanned necks, the extremely versatile x-bars pickups excel at everything from jazz to metal and all points in between. another advantage is there is no volume drop in split mode and working as a single coil; noise is virtually eliminated in comparison to standard old style hum bucker designs.
Reviews:
I put this pick up in my 8 string legator ghost. The guitar is fanned fret. If you have a guitar with fanned frets where the pickups are slanted, you might find that this pick up does not cover all the strings (depending on string spacing). It barely fits my guitar and I had to do some light Dremel work to get it to fit my guitar (not a problem it's barely noticeable). But overall the pickup sounds fantastic!parbel-89
I am building a 8 string steel guitar. I am using a standard 8 pole in the bridge position for that standard twangy Nashville sound. Flip the selection switch and boom! Lace sensor in the bridge position with the 25 db Eric Clapton boost kit by Fender and hello Sonic bliss. Totally different tone, very harmonic sounding. All the tone I never knew I had. Love it.dave-n-wv

After installing them, a big smile on my face (and in my ears) while I tested! They sounds fantastic, all across my 9 strings, and no noice! I think my instrument looks great now, the pickups shine both vintage and modern on it! I'm going to order new Lace pickups for my other guitars, also for my 6 strings, -and so should you, I highly recommend Lace!atomkraftverk1

Obviously pickup/sound preferences are subjective and gear dependent but I think this is definitely a standard for neck pickups. This is hands down my favorite one and I have had it in at least 5 guitars. It’s warm but not fuzzy, clear but not overly bright, and has sounded great under any level of gain. Great if you play multiple genres. I primarily play higher-gain styles and the Jazz is great for leads. If you think a ‘59 is too bright, this will do the trick.Alex
Have been looking to buy this set of Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Special pickups almost the day they were released; However, living in Canada, there is a 3 month to one year delay on new products becoming available. Squid music had my order shipped within 2 hours of payment, and the item arrived at my door one day earlier than the earliest estimated arrival date. No customs/duty charges were attached to my package either. Haven't gotten these puppies installed yet, but I have to say I am more than 110% satisfied with the level and quality of service. The price was the best I found anywhere. Highly recommend!mesa0131
Bought to replace standard MIM strat humbucker. Sounds good, not amazingly different from the stock pickup, but good. Doesn't split as well as stock. Sounds best with overdrive. Didn't fit standard humbucker opening or adjusting screw holes. Come on Seymour Duncan, this is made to fit these guitars specifically, and it doesn't fit without modification. Kind of disappointed on that front. Can be remedied fairly easy if handy with tools.patricmertaug-0
5. Fishman Fluence Will Adler Signature Pickup Set
Product Details:
Fishman has been at the forefront of acoustic transducer development and improvement for a long time. with the fluence series, they have brought that spirit of innovation to their electric guitar pickups. the electric guitar pickup has been wound since 1934, but fishman decided to explore unwound pickups and has perfected them in this innovative pickup line. fluence pickups are free from the hum, noise and frustrating inductance issues that plague even the most coveted wire-wound pickups—revealing pure, uncorrupted and musical tone. this is the will adler signature set. for more than 20 years, will adler’s rhythm tone has been the backbone of lamb of god. it took something new and significant for will to make a change in his setup. fluence has proven itself to be that “thing,” the only technology capable of seamlessly integrating the passive tones that will is known for, with a modern active attack, all in the same pickup. the will adler signature set combines the classic neck pickup with a crushing ceramic bridge pickup hybrid, combining the passive attack and dynamics, and flux chaos will loves from the poles with the smoother, more even response of the blade. voice 1 is a thick, old school passive distortion friendly tone, while voice 2 handles the higher octane, active/boosted tones that push an amp into total saturation. the vintage gold finish matches will’s aged hardware.

Reviews:
Excellent quality superb pick up set, sounds heavy.Jose
I got a set of these to install into an old beater of a Schecter I have. Let me start with the conclusion: they sound great. Really massive tone, with a great high end sizzle and tight bottom. They might be some of the best sounding pups I have ever played, quite frankly. There are two negatives that I want to bring up: First, I do not really feel like there is a lot of tonal difference between the two voices. It's really hard to tell apart, to be honest. The good news is that both sound great. Second, the install was harder than usual. I am not a pro by any means and probably not even very good with the soldering iron but hey, they could have made it easier. First of all, the set comes with two push-pull pots and one 25K volume pot. All pots have short, wide stems. My guitar has three pots, two volume and one tone. I had to drill out the hole for the tone pot (which has the push pull for the two voices). Fine. The wiring diagram suggested that there ought to have been a wire that connected to the bridge with a single white wire. No such wire appeared in the box I got. This confused me for a while, until I finally just hooked up a two wire connector with orange and yellow wires. In retrospect, having searched Fishman's site for wiring diagrams, I see that the wires that came in my box correspond to the other models in the fluence line while the wiring diagrams don't. Whether this was a mistake on part of the folks that packaged the particular box I got or not, I do not know. It is possible that if I had wired it differently the tonal differences in the two voicings would have been clearer. Anyway, for anyone who is considering these as aftermarket pickups, I would recommend that you take some time studying the various wiring diagrams on the Fishman site, and order correctly spec'ed pots for your guitar before doing an install. If you go with the Will Adler preferred wiring, you also need to get a second 25K volume pot (only one included in the package).Bjorn

Real sound , no Frills just the Guitars original tone .savmandundee
Hands down! The best sound for an acoustic. I was looking for something that I could hear each string with the same balance. And this pickup was perfect! You dont hear more of one string or less of one. Every string has the same volume and tone. And in the clean channel with no eq, it has natural low end!performanceautoglassandtint
This pickup works great. It's easy to install yourself if you're brave. It took me about an hour. I recommend several pieces of tape over the end pin hole before you drill the guitar, this helps prevent chipping the finish, I also recommend access to a good belt sander to get the bridge sanded down just right to compensate for the pickup underneath it. I use this pickup with an LR Baggs ParaDI and I always get a great sound with them.ToddAllenHooper

8. Fishman Fluence Devin Townsend Signature Pickup Set
Product Details:
Up for grabs is a fantastic pickup set. these things scream and are truly versatile! i've had them in my eclipse for about two years now and have loved them. i got a mini three-way switch that allows for three different voicings in every position. i'm getting married pretty soon and needed to get rid of some gear to make some easy cash. so that's why i decided to sell these. i figured they would sell much quicker than most of my other gear. the only thing that won't be included will be the installation guide, however, a quick trip to fishman's website can remedy that.

Reviews:
These pickups are great. I replaced stock pickups in a Sterling JP model with these and they are wonderful. Total variety and they are quite, even on coil split sounds. They are expensive, but being that I liked the way the guitar played just not the output of the stock pickups this was a worthwhile investment so I can continue to enjoy this guitar.Christopher R
Had this set installed in my PRS Custom 24 replacing the 59/09's. I loved the 59/09's but needed a stronger output for high gain stuff. My goal was to keep the guitar extremely versatile. These Fishman's are good pickups. A bit more life than EMG's but not quite as dynamic as passive humbuckers. I have the tone knob as a push/pull for both voicings which offer good variety though I mainly use voice 1. They aren't as harmonic as the 59/09's which is a bit disappointing. Also when rolling off the volume it seems to do just that, reduce the volume rather than "clean up" a overdriven sound. That's been the most disappointing part for me as I control my gain level a lot with my guitars volume. I go back and forth if I made the right choice for me. I like the set overall but it leaves me still wanting a bit more out of them.Ryan

If you wanting a high output pickup, these are not your choice. I’ve had blackouts and emgs and those would be better a better choice. If you want more Note clarity and pick response and a WIDE VARIETY of tones, this is your guy. The neck pick up- super clean with the right amount of output, and with the push pull options, you can get a glassy strat shimmer. With the tone knob dialed back and using voicing two, you get a super dark and top and mid heavy that Keith is known for. The bridge pickup- it chugs with heavy distortion and get super note definition when tuned down. Pull in the knobs and you can get Slash from a half powered PAF. I have got e erything from David Gilmour to Korn to some Pantera rhythm tones. You will not get a high end “sizzle” aka Dime leads but still sounds greatDennis
Been playing and gigging for 30 years. Owned lots of guitars and bought lots of after market pickups. These pickups are shockingly good. They do exactly what they say they'll do. They have the punch, cut thru, and clarity of actives but they react to your fingers like passives. Very rewarding playing experience. They sound and feel like low output PAF style pickups. Long cable runs are not an issue. I'm shocked by how good they sound. Definitely worth checking out.Chuck

These pickups are powerfull, more gain, more tone and a very new and exiting design. Out of the box I was suprised how simple and elegant they are, nothing like I've seen before!

I've played a lot of different Strats over the years and while they all had "that Strat sound" to varying degrees, the Fat '50s achieve seem to be the most authentic. By adding a treble bleed and turning down the volume a bit, I can get those classic chimey tones from the 50s and with the volume all the way up, I can get the bigger sounds from the 60s. The cleans are sparkling, but they sound great running through higher gain amps as well. Compared to pickups like the Texas Specials, these are not harsh to my ears, even in the bridge position. If you're looking for the solid Start sound, you can't go wrong with these,BOCTOK
The Fender Mexican made 2017 Stratocaster is a nice guitar and as a standard out of the box guitar is good. One easy way to upgrade the sound is by installing the Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's pickup set. I measured the ones on a custom shop 59 before purchase to be sure of string alignment. I purchased a set and fitted them in about half an hour, fortunately my Mex ST had an Oak type 5 way and full size pots so no more upgrade work needed there. I did change the pot knobs and switch knob to white to match the new pickup covers. I installed a new set of strings, the pickups were test adjusted and sound great, a nice full sound, the front one is very rounded and clear, the middle is a classic sound and the back nice and strong. I was after a Shadows style of sound and these pickups did not disappoint. They give a clear sound and the right sound if you are looking for pure vintage tone.matt66red
I waited 5 months to write this review, I'll try to be unbiased. I replaced the stock ceramic pickups from a Fender Standard MIM. It's my first change of pickups ever, and the first time I play a guitar that sounds so classic, so I can not tell about the difference with a higher end model of Strat or a vintage one, but here goes my opinion: This pickups totally rock, well they don't only do rock, they play everything you want to hear from a instrument called "guitar", that means, 6 strings thru a wood body, they deliver the classic and just necessary electric guitar experience. No gimmicks, just the real thing, classic clean sound, lots of harmonics, dynamic sound, and driven sound wonderful, because they can be strong too, classic surf rock sound here. Took me a couple of days to adjust the proper height, the Alnico V magnets are strong so you have to be delicate to find the right spot for the three PUs, but once you are there, they are marvellous. The three pickups are pretty much the same, states the box, but the three positions are there, and the case with the medium pickup is a great surprise, it sounds very nice, very "middy" usable position, sounds as a custom medium pickup. By all means, you don't need no more that a old school Stratocaster guitar, as Leo designed, to be happy. Cheers. Rock on, blues on, jazz on, jangly on, surf''s up!Oscar the mendigo.

15. Emg Jh James Hetfield Humbucker Set, Black
Product Details:
The jh james hetfield humbucker set is a totally new dimension for emg, the design being driven solely with the input of james hetfield. after playing the 81/60 emg combo for many years now james wanted something not only "new" sounding, he wanted a set that also looked totally new. the neck pickup uses individual ceramic poles and bobbins with an enlarged core that gives it a more percussive attack, higher output and a fuller low-end response making it clean & fat and fast attacking. the bridge pickup uses the same larger/taller core coil but has steel pole pieces, again for a tighter more percussive attack with less mutual inductance for a cleaner low-end,. based of the emg 81 but brought to a whole new level. both pickups feature an exclusive black nickel plated finish and come complete with emg's revolutionary solderless installation wiring components.

I have had my shecter omen 6 for over 2 years now and although the pickups where fine i've always fwncied a change and so finally decided these EMGs where for me. The kit comes with the full solderless wiring set needed to install into your guitar, and it honestly couldn't be easier! All the leads are small enough to fit through the pre drilled holes in my guitar, even though my guitar came installed with passive pick ups. The hardest part i had about the set was i had to slightly squeeze the output jack spade to make it get through the gap but other than that it was faultless. Battery even fits in the control unit area so no need to route out any holes for a the battery! (Bonus!) As for the pickups the neck is truely fantastic cannot get enough of the tone from it, i can't say i'm a massive fan of the bridge pickup so may eventually swap that out, but it's still early days so i may come round to liking it. Of you are in the market for pickups as a first upgrade, i would highly recommend these however 10/10 for packaging, ease of install, and a solid 9/10 for the pickups themselves.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I love these pickups. I bought the brand new 2019 Schecter Red Reign Apocalypse HT and the pickups in it we super mid and high focused but literally had zero bottom end so they were to thin for my liking. After doing a bunch of research thinking I didn't want the typical active pickup because they sound too compressed I found these. After so many demos and and also reading I saw how these were more of a hybrid sound passive yet active. And wow the sound was amazing more then I could ask for even comparing them to my Seymour Duncan invaders, my emg 81/85 combo or 81/60 and my PRS 81 something s's they have the perfect harmony very well balanced. They are high high output so even little gain was impressive and saturated. The only issue was the guitar has a small cavity for electronics so I really had to tweak the emg system to fit like a puzzle. So something like an S series Ibanez may have some real issues with cavity space. But regardless amazing pickups.RobfromVB
Great, high gain pick-up. The neck is bluesy, warm and cozy. The bridge is aggressive and thick. However, because it has passive properties, it's noisier than one is used in an active pick-up. Get a noise gate, if you don't already have one, you'll be golden! Also, the installation was so easy and almost completely solderless. Only the connection to the toggle/selector switch requires soldering. I made my installation 100% solderless by also getting an EMG toggle switch kit.Christopher E.

I'm experienced with building guitars and designing electronics and both pickups were dead when I wired it them up. They also hummed like crazy. I got the neck pickup to give great output but I had to add a jumper wire that was missing in the back. The bridge pickup only ever worked at half volume and I tried every possible wiring on the output with different jumpers and eventually the pickup wires that run out to the coils gave way from being reworked so many times. Way more work than they are worth.Clark
I wanted to like these pickups, but unfortunately they are too tall. The American Ultra guitars must have a deeper route to accommodate these or something. My vintage style MIM Fender body (purchased brand new as a replacement body from Fender/MF for a Partscaster) did not have enough depth in the pickup cavities to fit these. Fits standard single coils with tons of room to spare, so it's not a shallow route. These would go in if you bottom them all the way out, but then they're just barely under the strings, buzzing on the pole pieces, no room for adjustment. From what I heard, they do sound ok, but obviously need an adjustment, which I can't make. The noiseless aspect was good. They are pretty low output. Even with them near touching the strings they were significantly lower output than the Fender Tex Mex set I was trying to replace. I made recordings of before and after to compare, and they weren't any better than the Tex Mex – actually preferred the Tex Mex for tone and output. The Ultra Vintage had slightly less mids, less output, and no hum. that's about it. If you can fit them, I'm sure they'd be great, though I would opt for the Ultra Hot Noiseless instead for the increased output. For reference, from bottom of the PCB to top of the tallest pole piece they are roughly 0.984" tall or roughly 25mm. Also only available in aged white, so no color options either. Side note – the listing says they come with pots, switch, etc. They do not. This is just the pickups and mounting screws/rubber "springs" – that's it. The screws are different from typical single coils too, using threaded inserts instead of plastic screws directly into the bobbin. Keep that in mind.c00lkatz
I was a bit underwhelmed with the N3 noiseless set that came fitted to a 2013 Deluxe Strat I bought used. I noted the Gen4s had a higher output, but some forum comments suggested they weren't a worthwhile upgrade. They were wrong! More noticeable than the higher output is the improved tone the Gen4's provide. Far more 'stratty' than N3s, more touch sensitive, alive, present, and less compressed (most noticeable with the neck pick-up). Positions 2 and 4 give an authentic chimey sound. And, as a bonus, with the S1 switch activated there is less of an increase in volume than there was with the N3s. I now have 10 very usable tones! Brilliant purchase!greengoatster
17. Fender Hot Noiseless Strat Pickups Set

Attempting to describe sound in words is a futile exercise. I shall not waste your time. Suffice it to say that I have been testing electric guitar pickups for over thirty years. Fishman Fluence replacement pickups are easily on a par with Seymour Duncan, EMG, Lindy Fralin et cetera. I shall be buying more of them.Reviewed by Absolute Music custo
I own several guitars with the Modern Fluence humbuckers and wanted to try these. The classic humbuckers use Alinco 5 magnets, and my favorite pickups use Alinco 5. These pickups were installed in my LTD EC1000 Eclipse guitar. I am very happy with the results. The classic sound is nice and warm and crunchy. The more modern sound is fat full and articulate. It is not harsh and has a nice fat hot rodded PAF tone, with a little more juice. These pickups are very versatile, you can go from classic rock to today's metal with them. The single coil mode is great as well. I highly recommend these for those who play various styles of music. And of course, they are dead quiet.Dave
These pickups are my new favorites. I have them installed in an ESP Eclipse EII and they sounds phenomenal. They have 3 separate voices, all which sound pretty unique, especially the single coil voice. The other two on the bridge are the PAF and and Hot Rod. Then the neck has "clear, airy chime" instead of the hot rod. My guitar has so many tonal options now and the clarity with recording through plugins or amps is just superb. Will definitely be getting another set for my next guitar! Thanks AMSMichael
19. Lr Baggs Ibeam Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup System
Product Details:
The ibeam s mipa award-winning design employs a matched pair of virtually weightless film sensors that flex with the soundboard to trace your guitar s voice much like diaphragms in a stereo mic. a key advantage over typical bridge plate sensors is the ibeam s cardioid like response pattern that inhibits feedback and string squeak while selectively admitting rich tone-producing vibrations. weighing less than 1/3 of an ounce, the pickup will not alter the guitar s natural acoustics and easily mounts to the bridge plate with peel-and-stick adhesive. the ibeam active pairs the ibeam with an all-discrete class a endpin preamp with soundhole volume control. the sweet and ultra-quiet audiophile-grade preamp faithfully amplifies every nuance of the pickup. superior sound and performance is built in for easy plug-and-play performance. an auxiliary passive channel is also available for adding a secondary pickup. the ibeam active is also great for direct studio or home recording. comparison tests have demonstrated that the fidelity of this system is a great alternative to studio microphones.

I have heard no after market pickup that more faithfully reproduces the tone of an acoustic guitar. Easy install, comes with jig and extra adhesive strips in case you (or your friend), oh I don't know, drop your guitar on the concrete floor of a Masaai church in Kenya and have to send your guitar back to the states for repair, but want to put the pickup into a cheap yahama for the time being. Baggs even sent me and extra jig and adhesives, in Kenya, to install it. And it makes the Yamaha sound very good, even though it doesn't even really sound that good acoustically! An amazing pickup that I will use as long as they are still in production! Easy to use, easy to install, virtually indestructible, lightweight and invisible. Outstanding quality and design. I bought mine years ago. The current price is very agreeable and worth every penny if you really care about tone, even if you have a mediocre guitar to install it in!prof69strat
After considerable research I had a Baggs iBeam active installed in my Martin D28 – I'd found the D28 recorded well with a mic, but tended to be boomy when mic'd for live sound reinforcement. An experienced Martin guitar tech installed it for me. I've tried it straight into a mixing board and through a Genz-Benz Shen Pro-LT. It sounds oh so very natural, and gets all the gain I need. It really shines for finger-style. It may not be a good choice in loud environments, as it would probably feedback, but in such situations tonal subtlety is usually less important. It was also important that it was both visually unobtrusive and physically non-invasive. That way it can be replaced – the D28 is likely to outlive the useful life of any pickup system. I am picky about sound quality and am quite happy…price was reasonable too.Return2Normal
Sound: Installed it in a Composite Acoustics Legacy/Dreadnought guitar. The sound is very natural. A lot easier to install. Like one other person said here it is real boomy at your regular settings. I had to back the bass off on my amp. It is real microphone sounding as thats probably what it is. Thus it is feedback prone if you are sitting in front of your speakers. It did well in a solo performance. Not sure how well it will do in a setting where volume is needed. But I would just use a different guitar. I do like it a lot. Features: Has a volume wheel you stick inside the sound hole out of sight. Ease of Use: With the installation jig that comes with it you can position the pickup exactly under the saddle perfectly. I really did not want to get into drilling holes under the saddle for the pickup wires, soldering wires, and sanding down the saddle. Installation is a snap. The Wow Factor: A pretty girl came up and said my guitar sounded real nice.

The fishman fluence single width pickups are the most amazing sounding pickups I have herd in my strat. They are very bright yet can be super warm in the neck position. The push pull pot gives you that beautiful Texas strat tone as well. The cleans are amazing and the gain tones are amazing from blues to hard rock. If you are looking for the perfect pickups for your strat look no further. I highly recommend checking these out
great pickup system , easy to fit great clear sound.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
These were recommended to me by Russ Parish (Satchel from Steel Panther). I used em to upgrade a 60th anniversary classic vibe squire strat. That guitar was pretty nice to start with, but this upgrade put the sound on par with any strat I’ve ever played. I cannot recommend them enough. Imagine rolling down the volume without sacrificing any tone. Need a little boost, just pop up the pot and activate a little hotter voicing. Tremendous value.
