12 Guitar Amp Speaker For Sale (2024 Update)

This speaker is ideal for the lead guitarist who needs to project well in the mix at gig volume in a band setting. It is not the ideal choice if you use it at home for practice and noodling. There are a lot better speakers that will enhance your tone at home — think Greenback, Creamback or similar. I have these mixed in two 4×12 cabs. Alone, the V30's highs are shrill and will drive you nuts. To maximize the advantages of this speaker, I suggest you mix them in an X pattern. I have mine mixed with G12T-75s in one cab and G12H in the other. Both sound great at any volume and with the V30s cut through the mix at gig volume. In short, this is a great speaker for the gigging lead guitarist who must project his sound. Works best at high volume which it handles with ease. This speaker's harsh tone can be tamed when paired with another speaker which will improve your tone. It works well with every speaker I paired it with. If you're not in a band or looking for killer tone with lower watt heads or just lower volume, I suggest you look at another speaker as there are better sounding speakers. This speaker is all about the gigging guitarist cutting through the mix.Ron

Not a good choice for a warm amp without good high frequencies ! My Jet City 2212c amp has a bright attack using a Legend 1258 speaker and even brighter with the stock custom Eminence speaker but this SPEAKER fixed the harsh attack and added nice harmonics I did not hear before from this amp ! I had my eyes opened when I tested the Jet City amp with the vintage 30 that came in my BadCat Cougar 5watt tube combo , wow what a difference ! This amp gets mediocre reviews with the stock speaker , not mediocre anymore and can cut up the treble or presents control for more of a Vox top boost amp tones ! It gets overdriven to clean like Tom Petty tones now ! Careful choosing a Cream back Celestion the EQ on my G12 65M cuts midrange noticeably which I did not like but it sure sounds good too ! You need beautiful midrange go with the Vintage 30 no question !golddust742

I had long heard about the celestion vintage 30 but only recently decided to see what the hype was all about. I can say that this speaker has truly made a huge difference in sound. Each note emanating from my guitar is now rich and full. This speaker makes the clean channel of my amp sound warm and chimey. And the gain channel packs much more punch. Without belaboring the point, this speaker is worth every penny and will inspire you. Now I know what the hype is all about.Gary

Incredibly well made. Vintage 30 speaker is a bargain in this cab. Cannot beat the price. And the cab was shipped in double boxes, with double corrugated cardboard each, quite bulletproof packaging! This cabinet and speaker sound fantastic! It looks nice and is a SUPERB value for what you're getting. I would buy this again in a heartbeat and I'm actually buying a second one for a different ohm speaker. Shipping was fast and it was packed very well. This is the best deal you will find for an extended speaker cab of this quality hands down! The Vintage 30 speaker on its own is nearly $150 at most places, making the cabinet so cheap for this unit that you cannot even build your own for less money. The cabinet is gig worthy and is wired for a parallel speaker extension…however the soft vinyl covering, which looks nice, could possibly damage easy over time (*one and only complaint). I am extremely happy with the build quality and the sound of this 12" speaker with the open back cab perfectly fills out a missing niche in my speaker stack. At this price point you will not find a better value anywhere. Highly recommended!Stephen

Overall: I put this speaker in an open back 1×12 cab made of birch. It is very loud and still holds a lot of bass for the open back design. I would buy this speaker over and over for the price and tone.Adam

I paired the legend 1275 with a eminence CV75 in a 2×12 custom cabinet. Use DV mark head And you get very nice cleans with decent break up at mid range volumesDavid W.

Speakers are nearly as important as the amp. If you like your amp but want a better tone, change your speakers, mix and match, look at what speakers the big boys use. This speaker certainly has its haters. By themselves, I usually felt something is missing. I had these in a Carvin USA 4×12 and Marshall 1960a 4×12. With my Marshall cab I have a Marshall JVM 210 head. This cab with the marshall head sounds great. It sounds so good I took the back off the cab to see if they were in fact 75s in there. I have a 1980s JCM 800 that also sounds great with this cab. However, my Engl amp sound ok but definitely not great with these speakers. I had and sold a Carvin MTS 3200 head because I could never get a good dirty tone out of it. I think now it was the lack of tone caused by the speakers. Thus I started my experiment. I took the Carvin cab apart and mixed in an X patern Vintage 30s and the 75s. Both speakers sound better in this combination. All my amps sounded great with this cab. I then mixed the 75s with G12h Anniversay and same result. Ditto for the greenbacks. I am not exaggerating that the tone changed signicantly, and every time for the better, when I mixed other top end speakers with the 75s. I'm keeping my marshall cab as is with the 75s. However, this cab sounded noticeably better than the Carvin cab with 75s in it. The Carvin cab is very high quality and well built. As a result, I will never ever use any other cab with just 75s in them. I will always mix them with other speakers and recommend this to you. I play classic rock and blues. By themselves, the speakers I like best are greenbacks. I had a wow moment there. The G12 H also sound great alone. The vintage 30s are more like the 75s. Alone, they can get on your nerves. The top end is outright harsh. But everyone knows that for cutting through the mix the V30s are great. So like the 75s, they need to be tamed by mixing them with another speaker. Verdict- great speaker for metal and players who like the mods scooped. For other players, they sound great mixed with V30s, greenbacks etc, etc. the 75s are not great at all at cutting through the mix. I think the best scenario if you want to buy this speaker or have a cab with them In it is to mix it with another top end speaker. My recommendation is if you have a 4×12 take two out and mix with either V30s or G12h. It will sound great. As a second option, if you have a cab with V 30s and you think they are too harsh sounding, the 75s will tame it. However, there are better speakers out there- tryout the greenbacks. Creambacks, and other speakers before you buy these.Ron

I bought this to replace my stock Peavey Sheffield in my 6505+ 112 combo and I'm very happy with the results. The amp now has the added character. The dirty cleans, mean crunch and the searing lead tones of the Peavey 6505+ are all way better through this speaker! Everything with gain sounds way more \m\ METAL /m/ than the stock speaker ever did to me. I play with a lot of gain so that's what i was after in choosing this upgrade. This speaker did everything I hoped, completely transformed my 1×12 combo. Cleaned up the highs and mids and added chunk to the bass. Most importantly, it gave me projection. My sound was not lost in a blur 10 ft. from the amp anymore. Only con has nothing to do with the G12T. The old speaker had 6 mounting bolts, while Celestion uses only 4. It took me about an hour to take out the 4 I couldn't use and reinstall 2 in the right position.Paulie

I've been through many, many 12s for Blackface style speakers. These are my faves. For good 60s tones in country and rock with a BF amp these guys work great. Take pedals well. Not shrill or muddy in my experience. Solid surfy bass. Smooth treble. 120 watts which is triple what I would ever throw at em. For me the tones of these are somewhere in between American and British. I use these mainly in a 2×10 cab for a fender vibroverb style amp. Vs the Oxford speakers these have a lil more mid focus and rounded highs that work much better with higher gain tones. I also use these with my Marshall origin 50 set relatively clean to get a slightly bigger bottom end than V30s.RockinJohnson

I bought this speaker in the 16ohm version to replace a v30 in my orange ppc1x12. I love the v30 but I mainly use a 100w Marshall DSL100HR and the v30 by itself couldn't handle all that wattage since it's only 60watts. So I decided to go with the swamp thang cause a little more defined low end sounded like a good idea as I play a 7 string ltd (fishman fluence pups) half the time. But I was worried I would loose the highs that we need for attack in high gain situations as well as playing clean which I do very often also. But now that I've played tgrough this speaker I can say that is not a problem whatsoever. This speaker has twice the highs and twice the lows as my v30. Probably a little less midrange but since it's such a powerful speaker it doesn't feel like it's relying on mids the cut through. Full disclosure I've only had the speaker a few hours and played through it a little over an hour but if it sounds this good outta the box I'm confident things will only get better. It's a great sounding speaker in my opinion that would complement any style/set up. I plan on buying an empty Luke 2x12C cab from seismic audio soon so i can pair the ST and the v30 which im lookong forward to. But in the meantime im in no huge hurry since the ST sounds so good by itself.Michael I.

Don't underestimate the neo creamback for its weight. Once this speaker is broken in. Look out. I mixed this speaker up with 2 v30s and 2 neo creambacks in my Marshall 4×12. This will be my set up for years to come.Jeff V.

This is a very light weight speaker, that performs like a tiger. I mounted this speaker in an old early 1960s webcor reel to reel tape recorder cabinet that I gutted, works beautifully. It probably weighs around 12 pounds total. The only problem is it makes me want another one.Woody

I use a Marshall DSL20HR through a Blackstar cab with a Celestion Seventy 80 in it. I could only get a usable sound by turning the presence all the way down and the treble most of the way down. It was too ice-picky otherwise. I replaced the Seventy 80 with this Greenback, and what a difference. It warmed up the sound considerably without muddying it in the least.Bates

Overall this is my favorite Celestion speaker. I am running through a boutique Swart MOD 84 VOX inspired 15-watt amp and this speaker works perfectly! It sounds great clean with chimey and sparkling highs. Very articulate and touch sensitive. When overdriven it has the characteristic velvety smooth mids and tight bass. This is the sound of mid 60s through the 70s Rock and British Blues. AMS has great deals and payment plans to help musicians of all kinds. AMS shipped quickly. This is a great speaker. I have them in a 2×12 and use it with a Marshall JCM 800 50 W head and a Orange OR 15 head. The vintage tones are great. Really, off the map great. I see why Hendrix, ACDC, EVH and others rave about this speaker. I've experimented with lots of speakers, mixing different speakers and the Greenbacks give me a wow moment everytime. The cleans are crisp and clear. The distorted tone is vintage, very natural, and pure magic. Glorious! Sounds great with my les paul and strat — any guitar and any head. Best for classic rock vintage tones, blues, country or jazz. Metal players should look at something else. The only thing is they are rated 25W which can limit how you use it. Still, well worth the trade-0ff. If you like your amp but are struggling finding that tone we all search for, look at trying these speakers before you buy a new amp. The impact to your tone by adding these speakers is huge. This will upgrade any rig. Highly recommended.Ron

These are not for you if you desire speaker breakup. There isn't a tube amp made that will accomplish that. You can get all the tune saturation you want. Overall: I bought the CV75 after hearing it in person and I'm using it with a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister that has a wide range of sounds. It sounds really nice on the clean channel and also with some dirt. I built my own 1×12 cabinet for it and tried both closed back and open back. I like the sound with the middle third of the back open. The service and shipping from zZounds was impressive.Dave

I have read that this speaker is a massaged V30. While I cannot speak to the validity of that comparison, I can directly compare the CV75 to a Chinese-made V30 (mine came out of an Orange cab). The CV lacks the nasty high-mid spike, has a bit more grunt and a just slightly tighter low end. It is a good deal more articulate to my ears, though that could simply be due to the lack of harsh frequencies. Overall it is a fantastic speaker that sounds wonderful right out of the box and suits my needs very, very well.Properpat

I don't know why the folks at Celestion felt the need to produce a "U.S." sounding speaker. When I need that type of tone, I go for a JBL or Jensen, Eminence, etc. This "A" type does sound decent though, so I am going to keep them for a while. For best results, mix them… I use the A type in a 2X12 with a Vintage 30 to get the best of both worlds and it sounds great with my gear!I. M. Guitardid

I use this in a ported 2×12 with either a Genz Benz El Diablo or a EVH 5150 III, as it gives my top open notes that beautiful sag, regardless of amp choice. Handles effects very well.Zach

I could not do a side by side comparison. This G12 Century Vintage 60 replaced the "well known and time tested" Celestion Vintage 30 that came stock with my Mesa 5:25 Express Amplifier. The Century 60 made my little Mesa Amp a joy to carry; I am 66. From practice at home and rehearsals, sound-wise: This speaker offers Nice Articulation of Notes, Tight Bass and I think maybe a more Defined Overall Sound. I am quite pleased with the speaker, it was a shot in the dark and I mainly bought it for the weight reduction, furthermore, I wasn't expecting it to equal the Vintage 30, but I was pleasantly surprised and feel it is it's equal or better. Great Speaker for a Really Good Price.V.E.

i've had this little gem in two combo amps, a peavey valveking, and most recently an epiphone valve standard. the clarity is outstanding in both amps. this speaker cleared up the mud of the peavey, and in the epi, i can crank the little 15 watter and cut through a whole group. doesn't break up too badly when played clean at high volumes, but can really crunch when called upon. keeps up with my genz-benz g-glex 212 cab! a definate rock solid speaker with great tone and a really nice price.Anonymous

I play gigs every week, and use Crate 120 watt GFX-212, I play a seven string guitar and the bottom end has always been muddy. The speakers broke up and I contacted Eminence to see if I should use the Texas heat or the swamp thang. The said these were great speakers but for the seven string they recommended this speaker. I took there suggestion and am extremely pleased. I can turn the bass all the way up and the low B string rings clear, the highs are clear was well. Overdrive screams like it should. The clean setting is so clear I can not believe it. The one thing I was not prepared for about the speakers is they are about twice as loud as my old ones. They are however thee times the weight of my old speakers,but well worth the extra weight of my cabnets. I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone. These have a seven year warranty from the manufacturer as well.The Boz

Had a Superchamp X2 and decided to pick up a Superchamp mini stack to use for jamming with friends. Like the range of sounds and moderate volume of the amp, but felt like the shrill Celestion in the 1×12 cabinet could be improved on. I never used the EV 12 but wanted to see if this take on that speaker could round out the sound. This guy is heavy… reminded of lugging around the old JBLs. I added fiberglass to the cabinet and mounted the big guy. Even with minimal breakin, this thing sounds great. Big tight bottom, clear as a bell mids and highs with no ice pick. And so efficient it makes the little Superchamp louder. This speaker sounds like it puts out the best your amp can give it without breaking a sweat. I'd recommend it for any amp but especially modeling amps. Very musical… great speaker for the moneyOld Guy playing at home

I replaced the incredibly pathetically cheap Crate Speakers in my FW120 4×12 Cab with these and the sound driven by my Crate FW120H was simply amazing. Then I used my Carvin MTS3200H 100W Tube Head (w/JJ Tubes and they still sounded amazing. Plus … Although my Carvin 4×12 Cab is equipped with the EXCELLENT(!) WGS ET-65's (2ea) and WGS Retro 30's (2ea), I do love these Rocket 50's as well. Even an acquaintance (a professional musician) who owns a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and 4×12 Cab with Celestion Vintage 30's was also very impressed.Zerep11

Overall: Overall: These speakers are an amazing value! They sounds just as good as any other FRFR speakers I've seen, and at the price, they're an absolute no-brainer. Designed for guitar multi-fx, but literally everything I've thrown at them sounds incredible. I've got two, and I run them in my backyard to play music. They are very loud, and have no problem filling a large space with sound.Features: They're a speaker in a box. Not a ton of features to be expected, although there are 2 volume-controllable XLR-1/4'' inputs, which is pretty nice. They've also got an output for daisy-chaining, but I have them running stereo, so I have no need for this.Quality: Pretty decent, especially for the price! The plastic casing seems sturdy enough to trust at gigs, although I haven't had the chance to yet. The metal grill is sturdy aswell, and has yet to dent, even after I've gotten my hands on a pair.Manufacturer Support: I've never had to contact the Manufacturer.Sound: Amazing! For a $300 speaker, these things really sound incredible. The day I got them, I literally sat there listening to my guitar's reverb tail off for what seemed like forever. Overall: I shopped for months comparing the Alto, Headrush, EV, and several other options. I actually purchased the Line 6 cabinet and was tremendously disappointed in it's output and tone. I tried a headrush 112 and absolutely loved it. People will say its really bassy but I prefer it, here's why. In the age of the new modelers taking over, some of us are still used to hearing that "amp like" air moving behind us and the headrush 12 makes me feel like there's still an amp on stage with me. Tip: if you have an issue with the bass, clean up your presets a tad: there are several ways to mitigate it (low cut on the amp models, low cut in the eq chain, low cut block in the chain, low cut on effects, and so on). Some will even say that adding low cut will screw your front-of-house sound, but thats not true either for the Helix, you just need to split your signal paths so that you can enjoy the speaker as a monitor and let the sound tech also do his job. I have used it all weekend as a monitor and also as my main stage amp, PLENTY of power. Im going to buy another just to run a stereo setup. Couldnt be happier. I do wish they made a speaker cover for it though.Johnathan

( DISCLAIMER) Let me start off by saying that maybe it was just my unit that I had, or that I possibly never figured out how to dial the modeler I was using properly. Everyone is different and perhaps the settings I was using was not correct for the cabinet's character. But that being said, I found this cabinet to be a total let down. I bought one of these to go with my Kemper because I wanted a budget friendly solution and I had heard great things about this unit over the web. I kept the Headrush for about 2 weeks before returning it. I never once got a usable sound out of it. It's built really well, and I like what they were going for, but the unit just sounds bad in my opinion. It's Way too bassy, all the clean sounds sound like they have a towel over the speaker, or it has a cold, and there's no way to get rid of it either by using the contour feature or through adjusting EQs through the modeler. The high gain sounds were the worst. It really lacked any real definition and it was hard to tell the difference between a 5150 profile, and a Plexi. IT also has a weird shrill sound out of it at louder gain volumes which was odd. The last thing that killed it for me was that it had an annoying hiss sound, which could of just been my unit but it was super unpleasant. To conclude. I can't recommend this unit out there to anyone. It's not a terrible unit, but I just feel like there are better options out there. IF you are on a really tight budget and can't afford anything else, its okay, but I would recommend getting the 108 model of this. It's a little smaller, but it has the same sound quality, plenty loud, it's cheaper, and I feel like that would be a better purchase. That way you wont be spending an extra $100 on this to see if you like it or not. If you can save up a little more cash I would HIGHLY!! recommend the Laney LFR 112 Powered Cab. It's a much better cabinet, and is in that same more budget friendly price range, and just sounds fantastic!ToneMage

If you have an amp that is ice -picky when you travel up the neck of your guitar,chances are that it is either a 6V6 or a 6L6 amp. More likely the 6L6 variety. Some manufacturers automatically install either a vintage 30, or a cheaper equivalent , with the premise that it is a "one speaker fits all" solution. It is not. Even a well broken in V30 can have ear piercing highs, especially in a 6L6 amp,believe me I know. I'm currently using the cannabis rex in a EL84 amp and it does noticeably reduce the highs. Meanwhile I have a V30 in another 6L6 amp(bad combination)) that I believe would sound better with the cannabis rex. So I'm going to swap the speakers and hopefully that will solve both problems. Put two 8 ohm CR speakers in a custom 2×12 closed back. Instantly, a great tone I already had going got better! Lost my ultra-high end (some call it icepick). I wouldn't say my Carvin GT-16 drivers ever got icepicky, but they did have a very loud and fatiguing upper mid bump and could get honky or coney if you will. These were circa 2004 when you could still order raw guitar speakers from Carvin… Not anymore. The harmonic extension was brilliant and crystalline however, and that I sorta miss, but these CRs give me instantly proper guitar eq. They are super balanced, but kind of filter what the amp/guitar/player combo is generating into something instantly comfortable, detailed, sensitive, and faithful. I'm gonna blend these with Private Jacks in a double 2×12 X pattern… I'll let you know how it goes but so far these CR drivers are the cornerstone of my cabs. The amplifier used is a Carvin VT50, with Warmoth Strats having Dimarzio and Duncan pickups.cdub

Overall: My old workhorse Mesa Boogie F-50's English Celestion Black Shadow blew out and I could have cried. First off, I could not believe that the speaker roached on the amp, then I had a heck of a time trying to figure out what to replace it with. Celestion makes the vast majority of their speakers in places other than England (including the newer Black Shadows they make) so I opted to not purchase one of those. I decided to give Eminence a try. Hey, they make their products here in the states and every one of their products purchased goes to support those great folks who toil away making great products for us musicians to share our creative genius (or annoy our neighbors) with. I researched this problem for almost a year, trying to figure out what speaker to go with and try as I might, I never found anyone with a Boogie that they put one of these in. So I was a bit apprehensive about how things would work out. I installed the speaker and fired the amp up. I was so happy to hear sounds coming out of the amp. Then I was totally impressed with the sounds that I heard. Mesa should have used this speaker in this amplifier to begin with. I would have never thought I could improve the tone of this amp but this speaker did it by the spadeful. It is so rich and so responsive it made this amplifier sing like it never has before. I am completely impressed and Eminence has a lifelong supporter now with me. Great speaker. Absolutely great speaker, I cannot say enough good about it. It nails everything I need to play with authority. It rocks, it cries, it sings, it wails and it talks. If you have a need for a 12" speaker, this is definitely the way to go. I don't knock the old Celestions, don't get me wrong, their stuff is still one of the industry standards for a reason. I am just impressed and sold on Eminence hemp cone speakers now. I've been through many, many 12s for Blackface style speakers. These are my faves. For good 60s tones in country and rock with a BF amp these guys work great. Take pedals well. Not shrill or muddy in my experience. Solid surfy bass. Smooth treble. 120 watts which is triple what I would ever throw at em. For a Deluxe or a Pro in a honkytonk bar, these are just the ticket.edol9871

For me the tones of these are somewhere in between American and British. I use these mainly in a 2×10 cab for a fender vibroverb style amp. Vs the Oxford speakers these have a lil more mid focus and rounded highs that work much better with higher gain tones. I also use these with my Marshall origin 50 set relatively clean to get a slightly bigger bottom end than V30s.RockinJohnson

I bought this speaker in the 16ohm version to replace a v30 in my orange ppc1x12. I love the v30 but I mainly use a 100w Marshall DSL100HR and the v30 by itself couldn't handle all that wattage since it's only 60watts. So I decided to go with the swamp thang cause a little more defined low end sounded like a good idea as I play a 7 string ltd (fishman fluence pups) half the time. But I was worried I would loose the highs that we need for attack in high gain situations as well as playing clean which I do very often also. But now that I've played tgrough this speaker I can say that is not a problem whatsoever. This speaker has twice the highs and twice the lows as my v30. Probably a little less midrange but since it's such a powerful speaker it doesn't feel like it's relying on mids the cut through. Full disclosure I've only had the speaker a few hours and played through it a little over an hour but if it sounds this good outta the box I'm confident things will only get better. It's a great sounding speaker in my opinion that would complement any style/set up. I plan on buying an empty Luke 2x12C cab from seismic audio soon so i can pair the ST and the v30 which im lookong forward to. But in the meantime im in no huge hurry since the ST sounds so good by itself.Michael I.

Quality and construction appear very good and I really appreciate the gasket on the back side of the basket for mounting on the front of the baffle. The packing from Eminence was excellent. I installed these speakers in mid sized sealed cabinets along with the 270-125 heavy duty titanium super tweeters. Over all I m very pleased. I am powering them with a 150W per channel mixer. These will play extremely loud with no hint of distortion. No rubs, buzzes, or other issues. The sound is fairly natural. Very punchy in the mid range. Vocals and guitar seem to come to the front of the mix. The bass is more subdued. Of course, this is probably due to overlap with the tweeters. At low and medium volume they still sound good. Almost as good as decent Hi-Fi speakers and better than most PA speakers on recorded music. I think they ll work really well for my indented purpose as PA vocal speakers.Parts Express Customer - 12732

Overall: bought this speaker after purchasing a cheaper speaker to upgrade a monitor cabinet. the cheaper speaker had a great appearance but was not pushing the db's. So I searched for a better alternative.. These Beta speakers are loud!!! and great for vocals.. They cover all frequencies perfectly.. The spec sheets do not lie.. I will be buying moreGregg
