Reviews:
I own several cigar box guitars – some I built – some I bought – usually fretted four strings that I mando tune. I wanted a three string for slide – I liked that this had a disk with a slide technique lesson. I was more than pleased – as an instrument, it's as good as most any CBG – they are all pretty crude at best. This one was easy to assemble – holds tune – sounds good acoustic or electric. There were some comments on it not using an actual cigar box, but a factory-made stylized resonator box. While this is true, it is at least as good as a cigar box, and I can understand why they broke that way for consistency and ease of build (which as I said, was super easy). Aesthetically, most people would probably prefer a real cigar box, but come on – it's like a uke – cheesy is part of the shtick. The lesson is good – play along CD and a book – comes with a good glass slide. I recommend it – worth the list price – all the better with the discounts.JoeFromSD
This is a great way to learn slide guitar. It is small & easy to learn. The book is full of great info. The CD is great, with back tracks, A tuning track so you do not need to buy a tuner, as long as you have something to play the CD in. It would be a good idea to buy a cheep tuner. As far as the price you just can't beat it. You can buy one for any wear from under $20.00 to $59.95. you just have to look around for a good price. Even at $30.00 to $ 40.00 is well worth it. The sound of the guitar very good and a small amp helps the sound but is not a must. Also you can take this any ware. In all this is a great product and was well thought out. Plus it is just fun to play!!handcuff123
I wanted a three string cigar box guitar and between a black friday discount and backstage pass points, I couldn't pass this up. Some reviewers complain that it's cardboard but domestic cigar boxes are predominantly cardboard. Also, Fender recently built a cardboard Strat that couldn't be told from a "real" Strat in a blind test. Build time was about ten minutes. I ran the strings around the tuners contrary to the directions so the string paths were straight. Sounds great acoustic and also great amplified. The only thing lacking is markers on the side of the neck. Maybe not sturdy enough for roughneck kids but a good introduction to the cigar box genre. Nice slide included.Mike

Reviews:
Bridge pickup: fat and loud. This produces a very noisy rock/metal sound that fits perfectly for bands such as Rage Against The Machine and Black Sabbath. No hiss and very useable. Middle pickup: Clear. Essentially the acoustic sounding pickup. Very very effective for chordal work. Sounds great for acoustic work such as certain Babyshambles, Libertines, Oasis and the like. Does get a hiss occasionally, but not too huge. Probably isn't aided by my old amp. Neck pickup: bright. Extremely sweet sounding pickup for solo work beyond the 12th fret. It does sound a little muddy playing 1-5th frets on occasion, but the tone and sound at the other end of the neck is beautiful. Sounds fantastic playing Hendrix, Kravitz and solo's from Strokes etc. Have also used it to good effect on some Clapton tracks. There is the option to mix pickups (such as half neck humbucker, half single pickup) but I generally find these too weak and in-distinctive to be used effectively.
the part where subjectivity kicks in (have you noticed how "objective" this review was from the get-go? ). The styles of music I play, as I mentioned earlier, are mostly the Metal subgenres, with an occasional pull of a bluesish pentatonic. To me, this guitar fills every need I might have concerning any and all "heavy" music. It simply molds itself to any need I might have, and fills it in style. Sure, I DO have that Peavey Raptor as well, using it as a practice guitar, but the GRG will remain foremost. If I had had a question to ask before I'd bought it, then that question would irreversibly be: "Does it come as a "2 for 1" special?"… and if it were – forbidden be the thought – lost; or worse – stolen, then I'd definitely get another one. Simply put, this is my guitar. What I love most about it is it's demeanor. I compared it to the Raptor: whilst the latter is an extremely comfortable guitar, quite literally screaming "play me!" (I don't speak "guitar", though, sadly), the Ibanez stands firm, proud and distinguished, with a superior look on it's face; It took me a while before I could subdue and befriend it, unlike the Peavey's "I go with anyone" attitude. Yet that's what the beauty of taming is all about. What do I hate about it? Possibly everything, possibly nothing. But the thing that ticks my nerves, still, is the aforementioned buzzing frets (though, I reiterate, that is not a fault of the builder). And, lastly, my favourite feature of the guitar is, as you might not have guessed, the neck. 24 medium frets of sizzling speed, Ultra-fast picking and high screams, on a fast and responsive neck. That is, ultimately, what the GRG 170 is all about. Versatility and adaptability, all with an affordable price tag.
Getting used to the extra 2 strings, which is a little awkward. And the fanned frets is something new too. It's kind of like learning the basics of swimming, then decide to try the diving board. LOL. I'm cool with that, as it saves me from buying a bunch of guitars along the way to be comfortable with this concept. I really dig the guitar, has all the features I was shooting for at a really accessible price point. Well made, a keeper. Will R.

Reviews:
You ever pick up a guitar and find that you just can't put it down? This is one of those for me! Honestly I have never even considered an 8 string. Ive tried the cheap ones at Guitar Center and immediately after plugging it in just felt like the neck was way too massive. However after seeing Sarah Longfield and The Fine Constant play live and recently watching Mattias Eklund, I decided maybe its time to give it a try. I was really intrigued by the finish on this guitar and let me say in person it is gorgeous. The pickups sound great in 3 amps that I own (Yamaha, Fender and Line 6). I love the parallel setting! Sounds so bluesy and the bridge is great for distortion. Really the tones on this thing are amazing on clean and dirty! What impressed me most was how good the neck feels in my hand. I have tried 7 strings that felt awkward and big and this thing is big but for some reason it just feels right. Not sure why, but it feels more comfortable to me than the Universe 7 string models. Out of the box, the guitar just needed tuning. I may make a few adjustments down the road, but very little fret buzz, string height is good right out of the box. I tuned it as Ibanez lists on their site (basically half step down. maybe this is because of the extended neck length?). Works really well except maybe the lowest string may need to be replaced with a heavier gauge. The only downside that I could say is that I usually prefer to have a tremolo bar but since I may want to play around with the tunings, it may be a blessing not having one.Guitar George
Very fun and we'll made guitar.AlvinG
This guitar has helped me to push myself further as a musician with the incredibly clean a d vibrant tones it produces on clean and tight distortion settings. You can go from playing a animals as leaders style song to black sabbath all the way to smooth clean and responsive jazzy tones. It feels better than some seven strings I've tried. I want to eventually put fluence pickups in it (who doesnt right now) but straight out of the gorgeous case it comes with this guitar is ready to tour.Joey Earth Crusher

Reviews:
It has a cool design and plays pretty smooth (after setting it up myself.) The main issue I have with this guitar its particularly at the 1st fret high E. When playing I keep slamming my finger into the sharp corner of the bone nut. That is really the kicker of it all. The pick ups are pretty good and have a pretty balanced sound that let you play clean cleans and dirty articulated lows. Holds tune pretty well. The feel of the neck is pretty smooth and doesn't feel like a 2×4 with strings on it..3-alch3mist-3
I've played a six string for 22 years and this is my first foray into the world of seven string guitars. I was a little intimidated thinking it would feel completely alien to me. I was also worried about the multiscale neck, for not having ever played one before. Taking all of that into consideration, this guitar feels fantastic. The tone is excellent and it feels great in my hands. I was able to learn a lot of new songs in no time. I would recommend this guitar to anyone thinking about switching over to a seven string.JOHN
Overall: This guitar is ideal for tunning under drop A, I play it in drop G and it is just made for great range. You can chug all day and solo like a shredder on the top. The tension on all the strings is great. You will need to get it set up so if you can do set ups yourself that is great, will not take long at all. The rail pickups are new to me but they cut the muddy freqs quite well! they are hot and clear. The pictures also do not do this guitar justice! In person the fretboard looks amazing and the finish is a nice dark red. Its a metal machine and the rounding of the neck joint is very nice to have!Vaughn

Reviews:
Overall: I am a big fan of the RG guitar series by Ibanez, and I've wanted to dive into 8 string playing for the metal and tapping options. I must say the trickiest thing about this guitar is just finding out how to make tones (probably the same for most 8-strings). You really just have to cut out the bass a bit. Aside from the learning curve of tone-making, the playability and the coil tap are amazing features on this. The neck is quick, like most RG's, and the finish is more interesting than a normal, matte black. This thing is one of my favorite guitars to play!Eduardo
Pictures DO NOT do this thing justice. 10/10 sickAndy

Reviews:
The pickups are original Seymour Duncan. The look, feel and sound quality of this guitar can NOT be beat at this price point ! I own two of these, and I have never been disappointed with the craftsmanship of this product. It has deeper heavier tones rather than brighter tones. Made for Rock, heavy metal and such. The sound matches that of $2,000-$3,000 guitars and better. Don't get me wrong, this guitar is very versatile, and can play many different genres of music, but in particular the pickups are geared more to deeper, heavier tones. Love this guitar. I highly recommend and would buy this again and again. If this sounds like what you are interested in, you won't be disappointed. The opposite. Thrilled at the sound quality, and the craftsmanship of this finely tuned instrument.eriwhit-xnowqga9a

Reviews:
We now have 3 Sawtooth guitars. We are extremely pleased with all of them. We have an acoustic, electric, and now this beginner's electric guitar pack. Our youngest son won't put this guitar down. The black is a cool see through gloss. You can see the wood grain through the gloss finish. The guitar is of good quality. Much better than I thought it would be.The amp is portable, and can be used for headphones. Take note, that this is an amp that takes batteries (9 volt), or you can get an adapter for it. Comes with everything he needed to get started.Maximilian
Did not receive all items that was displayed with this package ( missing was Gig soft case bag ) one of the reasons why I chose this package, my grand son was disappointed. I will not recommend this item n I plan to counsel my account with Walmart cause i did not get what i payed for, enough is enough.Peggy

Reviews:
I've built several of these diddley bow kits and they're historically authentic, with the exception of using a new guitar tuner instead of a bent nail or whittled tuner. A cigar box makes a great resonator and these diddley bows sound nice and loud. These kits are just a little more involved than the C. B. Gitty "Pure & Simple" kit (also sold on Musician's Friend: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/c.b.-gitty-cigar-box-pure-simple-3-string-slide-guitar-kit). You'll need to cut a hole for the neck to go in…but it's still a very easy instrument to build. Great for pedagogy. The guitar is played with a slide (provided) and is a great way to learn the slide guitar concept. Blind Willie Johnson started out on a one-string "diddley bow" cigar box guitar and used a pocketknife for a slide. He developed his unique slide style from learning songs on a single string. It's a process heard time and again from many old blues legends.Shane S.

Reviews:
This guitar is incredible. I never played an 8 string and took a chance on this one. It plays just as fast and easy as my 7 and 6 string guitars. Finish is excellent, and neck is super smooth. Pictures don't do this justice. I tuned it to A because F# is just way too low. The notes are too muddy.Tom

Reviews:
Overall: I was looking to try out a multiscale guitar, and the C-7 MS looked like a decent option for the price. In terms of sound and playability, it absolutely is. The instrument is resonant, the fret work is good, and the shape of the neck is comfortable. Unfortunately it took me about two months (playing the instrument infrequently and keeping it in a case) to notice the awful state of the fretboard. During a string change, I went to clean the fretboard and noticed every single inlay was cracked, sometimes in multiple places. To make it worse, many of the cracks have started to split onto the fretboard itself. Areas near the binding are off-color and appear to be dried out or possibly too much glue was used, and the bottom of the fretboard has literal chunks of wood missing from it. The nut for some reason has pick-thick gaps between the bottom of the nut and the guitar, like the nut slot was cut wrong and they just forced it in with glue. I've watched a few youtube videos featuring this instrument, and it looks like these bizarre QC issues are extremely common. Now, if this was a $400 instrument it'd be one thing, but it's not (even then it really wouldn't be acceptable). An instrument of this price should not have this many quality issues. It really is a shame, because as I mentioned earlier, the instrument does sound pretty good and plays nicely. For now at least I would advise anyone to stay away from this guitar, and possibly Schecter as a whole, until they get their QC straightened out. I only wish I had noticed these issues when I was within the 45-day return window.
Don’t let the title scare you from this guitar! It is a well-made, great playing guitar, however, I also own. (and bought from AMS) the ‘original’ variation of the Silver Mountain and that guitar is much lighter than the Toxic Venom model. Other than the perceived weight difference, I recommend this guitar! Much like the Original Silver Mountain, it will take some time adjusting to the multi scale but your hands will feel ‘right’ as you adjust.Larry

Reviews:
This guitar is beautiful and easy to tune. I got the pink version. At first I was a little concerned how the color will look in real life. However, when the guitar arrived it was beautiful. An absolute delight to look at. I will say for the price this guitar is solidly constructed. The straps and electronic tuner that comes with it is awesome. It also came with several plastic plectrums. The guitar itself is a good size but not heavy. Yes, I love this guitar and I will recommend it. Now, please note that I am not a professional guitar player, so this is ideal for my intended purpose. I do not know how a professional guitar player will view this since their expectations might be different.Edekin
Although the style and look of the guitar is amazing, along with all of the accessories, the biggest issue is the making of the guitar. The strings placement above the neck and along the guitar is too high up. It needs to sit parallel to the whole neck. It rises higher near the body and slowly lowers along the neck. Not a big issue if you know how to play the guitar, but for a beginner and for quality sound, the strings need to be hovering directly parallel along the whole guitar.Helaman H.
overall excited for this. I've noticed it's about 8/10 for what you expect to get. decent price for the instrument, good accessories come with it, overall quality decent/ good for the price. if your looking to buy this as a gift for a beginner, it's a good buy. a few disappointing parts of this purchase were, I have to retune the strings multiple times during a lesson, you can tell the sound quality is slightly affected by the overall build of the guitar. I'd recommend buying a better set of strings, they seem too light/ cheap to give the full robust sound it's suppose to have. if I had a choice to buy this again, I would for the price. but I'd also look into putting a little extra money into a better quality guitar. but for the price, this was a great purchase.

Reviews:
The finish looks great, neck feels great, multiscale is comfortable, fret work is great, came set up out of the box. I was completely happy until I plugged it in and it just didn't work. I'm sure this is a 1 in 500 instance. The guitar itself was great. If you want a super playable 8 string with a neck that feels as accessible as most 7 strings….this guitar is a great pick. I just can't give any further review on the Jackson blade pickups that replaced the EMGs that were in previous models.Andy
Overall: Absolutely love this guitar, out of all the guitars I've played in my years of playing, this one really holds up for me. I was introduced to Jackson with a 6 string warrior and I fell in love with how it felt and played. I then searched for a new 7 string (my Washburn was tired after 10+ years lmao) and stumbled upon this gorgeous guitar. I swooped it immediately and man, I haven't looked back. Super smooth neck, low profile, multiscale is a super easy change, holds a low drop G tuning like nothing. Incredible finish, just pop some strap locks and a new strap on and you're good to go.Justin

My granddaughter is 7yrs old. I wanted to do something different for Christmas this year, so I purchased a acoustic guitar. I’m thinking 30inches will be a nice size for her. When I received it the box was small and without taking it out the box I knew it wasn’t the size I thought it was going to be! I made the online purchased but I wanted to return it in store, which I did with the electronic receipt! APPARENTLY SOMETHING WENT WRONG! The GUITAR WAS SENT BACK TO ME! Target sucks at RETURNS only to have them sent back to you! UghSexyAries2
Not sure why there are so many 5 star reviews on this product, because it is not a good guitar. I bought it for my daughter to learn on and it will not stay in tune no matter what you do. I even tried changing the strings on it and it just refuses to stay in tune. I guess if you're just looking to get your kid used to holding a guitar and pressing the strings it is ok for that, but I would recommend spending a little more money on something decent that your kid can learn on. I am a guitar player and I have the full sized guitar from BCP and it is an excellent value for what you get, but this one just falls flat. No pun intended. 🙂Andrew
