Sound: You can't go wrong on tone with the construction of this bass: maple/walnut neck through mahogany body, EMG pups, active pre. Right off the bat, you have good tone. The neck is fast and easy to play. This bass sounds more expensive than it actually is. Features: Well, a bass built in this fashion SHOULD feature a 35" scale, and this one does not. The 34" scale is fine for E-A-D-G, but the B is FLOPPY! There are some players that really like a loose B string, but I'm not one of those players. 🙂 All due respect, I like my strings nice and tight from one end to the other for optimal string response. Also, the bass only has a two band active pre, and for a bass constructed as this one is, I would expect to see a 3-band. I was highly disappointed when I discovered this… Ease of Use: NARROW STRING SPACING. I have big hands with long, chubby fingers. I play fingerstyle, and I need a little bit of room to dig in when I'm playing. I can see the narrower string spacing being great for pick players, or for people with small hands and skinny fingers. If you have large hands and fingers, though, you definitely want to play this bass BEFORE you buy it to make sure you can deal with the narrow spacing. Quality: The construction and quality control seemed top notch. The natural matte finish did not show any mistakes in the manufacturing of this product. The bass is well balanced, and it sounds great. Value: I would say the value is only average. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice bass, and it does sound good and play good. I'm rating value a "6" because of the disappointment of not having a few key elements that are typically desired with a bass built to this particular standard. There was only a 2-band EQ, not a 3-band with mid control. The string spacing is so narrow, the bass is practically unplayable for big guys like me. The 34" scale yields a floppy, flemsy low B, and that's no good for me. I like the bass, but I would not buy this bass because of these shortcomings. Manufacturer Support: I've never contacted Schector, so I don't know. The Wow Factor: read "Value" Overall: Traben, Spector, and other top manufacturers are having their basses imported from Asia just like Schector. These basses ARE well designed and well constructed, with good components. Schector simply missed it with this bass, in my opinion, because the competitors are building basses with better components and better design. This bass, for me, is slightly above average for basses in this price point. When I was shopping for my 5-string bass, I played this Schector, along with the Schector Stiletto Custom, Traben Chaos Obsession, Ibanez SR505, Fender American 5-string American Jazz, Warwick Corvette Standard (ash body), and others. Out of all the listed basses, I liked the Traben Choas Obsession the best because it is comparable to this bass, but has 35" scale, 3-band EQ, wide string spacing, and a really innovative bridge design. The Traben was right for me, and I know it was because I played every 5-string bass that I could get my hands on to make sure that it was. All that said, this bass is a nice bass that simply fell short FOR ME. This bass may be perfect for you. Play it and find out.

Love this thing! I had a problem with the sound on the first one but Musicians Friend got me all straightened out. The midrange sound was really quiet while the highs and lows were loud. They sent me a new one and took the return on the bad one. The replacement sounds great! I had a setup and new strings done by my local music shop and she sounds amazing. Intonation is now spot on. I love the look and feel of this one with all the rounded edges. Love the sound. She has a snarl in the low end that I haven't heard with any other company. I also own a squire 60s classic vibe p bass but i think i like the sound of this one better. My only complaint is that she's a little heavier than my Squire otherwise im super happy with this purchase. Thank you Musicians Friend for the smooth return and your amazing customer service. Love the sound of this heavy, neck diving beast. There's lots of tone to play with using the 5-way pickup selector. If played light enough you can avoid the fret buzz, of which is hard to get rid of with truss and saddle adjustments, but that can be said of a heavy hand on most guitars in general. The neck dive is severe like all the weight is really just the neck, but I don't notice it much when playing. It's just something to keep in mind if you play standing and lift both hands off the guitar to quickly adjust a mic or amp knob settings. The finish is kind of satin, as if it were printed on with an ink jet printer. It leaves the soft wood body pretty vulnerable to slow moving collisions against sharp corners. The Pre-Black Friday sale price on this guitar is a STEAL though! Definitely worth it for a Music Man bass sound for recording, or gigging if your willing to put up with the minor issues of weight and neck dive.Zach

I bought this bass 9 months ago and the quality hasn't changed a bit. I've played about 10 gigs with it, I love the look, the feel, and, most importantly, the sound. We play mostly pop punk and the active pickups really give you that meatier bass tone, especially when paired with the right pedal. I bought this bass open box, so there were a couple cosmetic differences (chips/cracks in the gloss), but the electronics work great. One thing I didn't realize is that active pickups require a 9 Volt battery, which I changed about 6 months in. There's a compartment in the back that unscrews and holds that bad boy in there, quick fix, easy peasy. If you're looking for a quality bass to play some rock, this is it. Bought this bass from open box inventory. Musicians Friend had good photos of damage/repairs and when I called with questions they were VERY honest and knowledgeable. After I got the neck adjusted and raised string height slightly to fit my style this is in my opinion a very good playing the bass. It has a thin neck that is smooth and fast playing. I have not had any issues with this bass going out of tune, even after playing pretty hard for hours at a time. Also I like that is somewhat less wide at the nut. Not quite like a jazz bass considerably smaller than my Rickenbacker. EMG pickups are nice and hot, I can get a huge range of tones. The only downside for me is there are no fret markers on the side of the neck. Small white dots would be nice for those of us who are still getting used to a fretless neck. All in all this was a great buy for the price.D minor
Having been a keyboard player all my life with a special appreciation 4 what the bass guitar can do, I decided to find a lefty 5-string and teach myself to play. Lefties are not plentiful, so I felt lucky to find this moderately priced model that has the quality and range of Active Electronics I wanted. It is solid and holds tune and plays easily I think. The neck is the heavy end of the guitar and I may look for a specialized strap to keep the neck up when my right hand is not on the neck. The 18 volt active knobs work as expected. The look of the guitar is very nice and I don't believe it looks plain, rather it is a finished natural Satin that frankly is in Vogue with the better players. All in all I'm perfectly satisfied with the quality of the choice I made. I'll be putting on a set of strings that allow smoother slides and doing a bit of jazz fusion as well as rock and old school R&B. I'm into the tones of Miller / Jaco / Tal / Clarke, etc.Stellan

Came ready to play out of the box. String action was a tad high but a little tweaking with a string gauge and trial/error brought things down to my comfort zone. I really like the ability to switch the pickups from single to dual-coil configurations. The difference is clear and use both settings a lot depending on the song/genre I am playing at the time. I've been playing DR Coated strings for the last year and I found the Ernie Ball strings that came on the bass quite comfortable and good sounding. The neck is very smooth and comfortable. It is wider than my ESP 4 string but narrower than some other 5 strings I've played. The ebony fingerboard is solid and I only have trouble accessing the last fret on the low strings. Overall quality is excellent and I am very happy with bass. You get a hell of a lot of bass for a great price.Raisin'Hell Again
Everything I wanted it to be. Wished I would have got a 5 string sooner. Neck seems wider but, you get used to it almost immediately. Super tones high and low. Very nice quality as I expected. My 1st Schector. Strings low no buzz out of box. Tuning keys are good so far time will tell. Stays in tune like a quality axe should. Very satisfied, getting used to extra string but coming along fast…..loving the LOW B. Not super high end but very nice for the money. Color is sweet, very nice looking bass…. stays in tuneskibert
The Bass has everything I wanted. Tone-wise it is off the chart. Deep, well defined Low End all the way down the Low B, which is nice and tight. It packs beautiful highs as well. The EQ works great and give more tone shaping ability than most in much higher end basses. I like the push pull EMG's but they stay on Dual Coil most of the time. Still, what a powerful pickup. The bass has such a rich sound, that I feel like I can't do it justice. The sky is the limit for this thing. I feel like it can easily put to bed a lot of basses at twice the price. In the looks department, it has a sort of dark elegance that still impresses me everytime I open the case, 2 months after buying it. I fall more and more in love with this Bass. It shows me more and more evryday. Also, I had a question, and Schecter's support was great. I think if you play the Bass it will speak for itself. Anyone thinking of getting a Bass near this range, you may come to regret it if you don't look at this Bass. I've had this bass for about 6 or 7 years now and it has absolutely blown me away! I didn't play it much when I first got it bc of the weird transition from 4 to 5 strings but over time I've played it more and more. I love it more every time I play on it! I've used this thing for rock, alt metal , death metal, posthardcore bands, jazz bands, jamming with friends stangers in a bluesy way, I've recorded With it and made YouTube covers with it. It's suited more for rock metal punk abd subgenres but it's versatile. This thing will take thick strings if you want (135 B string), the dadario strings that came on it were great too. This thing has great low end roar but can also sing melodically I play a lot of chords/fragments and tremello with a weird playing style and this thing sounds great! It's my favorite bass, it's the best I've played although I haven't tried many abd my others are lower quality. I play guitar too but am mainly a bassist so I like how the strings sit a little closer together than on others or 4 strings. I've had guitarists ask me what I did to make this bass sound so great and they were blown away when I said nothing just took it out the box! I've only had to intoneate it once so far. It's set up was pretty great out of the box the strings were a bit higher off the neck than I was Used to but once I got used to the action I was glad they put it where it was. Only complaint is that the low b sometimes would make the low b harware rattle and I could feel it skake/vibrate the whole bass (it didn't come through amp or anything. This stopped over time and I think higher string gauges might have helped to smooth this out. Batteries for the active pickups seem to last for quiet awhile. I use this through a boss me50b with compression on and through a nice combo amp that can compete with stacks this bass roars through it. First off let me say I've been playing "P" bass for quite a while. My current model is 24 yrs old. Thought I'd shop around for a replacement. No gigging for me anymore. Last one was July 4, 1973. Then along came children. So now I just sit on the edge of the bed and play along with John Paul Jones. When I found this Schecter Omen Extreme -4, I was deciding between an SG standard, and the Fender Aerodyne. Then I picked up this one, simply because it is bezutiful to look at. What a suprise. The pan knob will switch you from a "P" bass to a "J" bass. Even though the Omen has a 34" scale it plays beautifully. I am not disappointed with this purchase. The shape hints at a Jazz bass which I like, hence the Aerodyne search. Never mind that, this plays sweertly. At this time GC us offering an %18 off sale. You just couldn't go wrong. I haven't been playing long. Bought my first bass in 2020 (Epiphone Thunderbird Goth). Started taking lessons online through BassBuzz (Josh is excellent!), after a few weeks of practicing for a minimum of 2 hours a day, I was able to start learning songs for our Praise Team at Church (we currently had no bassist). I'd take my Epiphone of course. I learned to play sitting down, now it's time to stand, my shoulder was killing me! 2nd week of playing at Church and my tone column failed! I took it to GC to get it fixed and spotted the Schecter hanging on the wall. I picked it up and couldn't believe the difference in the weight (again, I'm a novice), my salesperson explained the difference between active and passive and I knew then that I wanted an active guitar. The Epiphone took two uses of muscles for my left arm, one to hold the neck up and of course the other to go up and down the fretboard. This guitar is so balanced it will stay where you place it from the get go. GC gave me a fair trade on the Epiphone so I did the deal the next day. If you're a beginner or even an experienced player, this guitar can make a tremendous difference with ease and sound. This is the fourth bass I've owned, and I am quite satisfied with it. My one complaint with it is that the pots are loose and don't have a center detente. But that's nothing that new pots and a soldering iron won't fix so I'm not bothered by it. I also bought it used; it could be a singularity but other people have had some trouble with the electronics. But this thing is passive and re soldering it is a walk in the park. I absolutely love the tone variety that I can get from this bass. With new strings on and on a bridge heavy tone you can coax out that signature Warwick growl using fingers or a pick; both sound good. It isn't a one trick pony though, if panned onto the neck you can get a nice fat sound that is sufficiently toned down but not so much so that you get lost in the mix. If you have both pickups at a similar level, you get a good balance of tone. I vastly prefer the placement of the pickups so you get a more ballsy sound than from something like my Schecter Stiletto. I also like that a tone knob is used instead of an onboard EQ- it's simpler but just as versatile especially when still figuring out the tone that you like. I put Power Slinkys on as soon as I got it and they work great. I play through a Hartke LH500 into a 1×15 cab, the only effects I use are a Xotic RC booster and an MxR comp. I love both, the comp is an always on pedal for me and the RC booster really brings this thing to life and gives it a little extra body and oomph so you really cut through the mix. I haven't tried this thing with distortion yet, so I can't speak to that if that's something you're looking into. This thing really can do just about anything; I played it in church and the sound guy loved it and I play hard rock/ metal tunes for fun at home and it rocks for both. Word of warning though, if you're used to covered pickups the open magnets may throw you if you're used to plucking pretty hard (guilty). Bottom line, if you want a versatile bass that tends toward an aggressive tone, buy this. Try and find one used, it's a much better deal. I don't know that I would've bought this at the new price. I would advise playing one in person first; I picked up a Warwick at a store a few years ago and didn't like it but then picked this one up recently in store and loved it. So it isn't for everyone. But for the price, the tones you get from this thing are real hard to beat, even if you buy new.Ajgriff
Overall: This is my second RockBass by Warwick. I must say, I’m even more impressed with this one than my last one. First, it looks even better in real life. The natural finish is what I prefer on instruments. Besides looking awesome, the lack of a lacquered finish means your wrist shouldn’t stick if you’re sweating. I mean the bass looks like a big chunk of wood with some strings and electronics, need I say more? The wood really gives this bass the distinctive tone that I personally love. Alder has a great brightness to it. This means I can really make this bass sing. Having that much natural high, even the EQ flat, means this bass is incredibly bright. Don’t get me wrong, the MEC pickups play a big role. A good allegory being “the wood is like the water, while the electronics are the coffee beans” or the other way around. Lastly it plays extremely slick. Warwick uses a 3D adjustable bridge, as well as having the adjustable nut. This allows the player basically every possible avenue to set this bass up perfectly. It may take some practice to get all the adjusting nuances down but it’s worth the practice. These RockBasses really are great. They fill the gap for people like me who are great players that haven’t met band mates yet thusly, don’t necessarily have the reason/means to get a $5,000 Thumb or Streamer. I love this bass, in just a month it has already become an extension of me. I can’t ask for more.Alex
Overall: okay i'm going to get this out of the way right now, QC needs to be stepped up on these quick. my tuning machines are loose (they are not only not tight on the headstock but the bolts that hold them in place are loose as well) nothing damaged just not tightened all the way, the neck pickup pot had a read bad crackle to it when using it, and for some reason there are ALOT of metal shavings stuck to my pickups. those out of the way i still ADORE this bass. i had an older 5 string jazz version and it sounded wonderful but was VERY neck heavy. this is not the case as the body is not really heavy but.. i'll say robust. there's no neck dive i find and the neck, frets, and body were flawless. it plays and feels like a dream.the reason i don't care or can write off the pot and pickups having metal on them so quickly is cause i had no intention of keeping the stock ones anyways. those are already switched out. i can say there's enough room to make this an active provided you don't plan on using an onboard preamp. in closing i guess i can say that i do feel they really need to step up (or wake up) on the QC, but after that it plays amazing, sounds amazing, and feels amazing. i've wanted this bass for some time and have no intention of ever losing it.Donald

Its a little by chance what you get from mex. fenders in terms of craftsmanship and details. Mine has a little dent and a little gap between neck and body but it is sturdy. Fret work is not like americans. Tone wise and playability is good. I like the look of pau ferro wood. Neck shape is comfy not like 70s baseball bat p bass more like 70s j bass. The orange color is the reason i pick this one, fender changing colors every two three years so if you have this color in mind go for it. Much much better in real than pictures. Overall, if you need a good practice/little jamming bass its a good alternative. Instead of squiers go for this. I have sire as well, if you dont like/need active preamp simple is the best. Also, this new pickups are good, have good bass and midrange not scooped like some american pickups. One final thing, I've tried couple of player series before ordering this, some of them is not well at all in build quality. So, it is a little surprise what you get, check after you buy it and then decide to keep it or not. Have fun..
Purchased the Fender Player Jazz bass. Overall great looks and sound, but some quality issues from the Fender Mexico factory (not Andertons' fault): – First bass had very clear weird uneven blemish under the varnish on the sunburst body. Not awful, but if I was in-store I would never have chosen that particular item. Returned and swapped by Andertons, no quibbles. Second bass arrived. Overall happy, sounds great, but still a few issues with quality control and design. – Control plate was missing 2 screws and was moving around – how does that get through Fender quality control? Replacement screws sent free of charge by Andertons. – Nut has not been slotted correctly – high G must have been passed through a machine and slipped, string is clearly a couple of mm too close to fretboard edge and you can see the failed first pass. Doesn't really affect playability, but is annoying and I will get it corrected at some point. Again, points to poor quality control. – Fretboard (Pau Ferro) is really thin – on the Player series, at least. Neck fret dot markers in white are half over the mid-dark fretboard, half over the light maple neck. Very hard to see in low light levels. OK, so they're just an indicator for position, but the design isn't great. So overall, the bass sounds great and Andertons service was very good. …and falls in love. Let me start by saying I actually have owned one other P-Bass. I had a 50s reissue Precision, but honestly the neck was just too thick for my liking after years of playing Jazz basses. Honestly, it felt thicker than the neck on my Yamaha 5-string. So, I picked this bass up after always dancing around getting what would be considered a more standard P-Bass. I have a 70s Jazz with a ton of modifications, I've had quite a few other brands of basses, but I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I ordered this a few weeks ago, and have been very pleasantly surprised. The action was pretty good out of the box. I adjusted it a bit, made a few tiny tweaks to the intonation, and now it's super smooth. And, on the pickups, let me say it's a great sounding bass. Pickups are clear, bass sounds great. I play through a little Ampeg Micro cabinet. Earlier this week, I bought some Flats to throw on it (because that's what you do with a P-bass, right?) and now it's quickly becoming one of my favorite instruments to jam with. It really cuts through the mix when playing in a group. I see why folks really love the sound of a precision. My Jazz still has it's place, but man, I really like the sound of this bass. The Player P is a great value for what you get. I've never owned an older MIM, but I research the heck out of pretty much any purchase I make, and it looks like Fender really stepped it up with this rendition of their MIM Precision basses. Good tone out of the box, no discernible pickup noise, good action, a beautiful neck, and a Tidepool Blue finish that just shines and shines.Dennis F

Never played a hofner before so didnt know what to expect. The experience with PMT was good. came well packaged 10 out of 10 for them. The bass has nice neck no sharp frets and the ends seem to be dressed nicely. seems well set up and even arrived in tune and the electronics seem good and do what they are supposed to do. There are a couple of small blemishes in the paint but nothing to fret about, however it says its transparent black of which it kind of is on the back, if you catch the light right, so a bit disappointing on that part. The other disappointing thing (and i dont know if this is a thing with all Hofners ) is neck dive. One more thing that makes it look cheap is the quality of the Hofner Logo, it awful. overall though its a nice bass to add to the fleet for a bit of variety.Adrian W.

Ibanez knocked it out of the park with this one. I purchased one of these a little over 3 years ago in Roadster Orange and still have it. In it's price range I think this is the best bass you can get. I've had much more expensive (Modulus FB5 Flea) basses and much cheaper. This is a well balanced bass and you get ALOT of higher end features for your money with it. I have been in love with the fat, boosted sound of Ibanez Soundgear basses since I started playing as a teenager. And the feel is amazing. No sharp fret edges, great action. Highly recommended if you are looking for a bass in this price range. I tried the Sterling Sub 5 and absolutely hated it. It's garbage compared to these.TW
Hey guys I wrote a review for this guitar and it was a 4 star review, I have made some corrections if you will about this Bass 1) The pots are cheap, but I had 2 that simply weren't tightened down, simply pull the knob off and gently but firmly tighten the nut on the pot and your golden. 2) I made some ever so slight adjustments on the bridge saddles on the E string and the G string on mine all it took was about a half turn on both screws now zero buzzing and still plays great virtually unnoticeable playing wise. I have very expensive basses and everything in between . I don't want to take those expensive heavy basses everywhere. This bass replaced a MIM Fender Precision bass. I could not have been more pleased with the performance of this bass. The first thing I did was take it to my guitar guy and have it setup to my liking (as always). It was set up fairly good Straight Out of the Box. This is now the bass that I use when I play at Disney. Construction is awesome but what really surprised me is the sound is every much a Fender precision or even that of a beefy jazz. More versatile than my MIM Fender precision was. The bass is light so after playing all day I don't feel like I've been carrying bricks around my shoulders. The action is exceptionally smooth. I think this is a great intermediate bass for anyone – 5 or 4 strings it doesn't matter. I have seen where some people don't like the bass boost feature. Always question what they're using the base for. If you play a lot of death metal then this may not be the best choice for you. But if you're like most of us playing anything from Jazz to R&B and pop on a regular basis this is an excellent choice for you. There are a lot of choices in this price range. However, the quality of this instrument's Construction outshines most of them in my opinionTank

Sound: Been playing guitar for 30 years and have now started focusing on Bass. This is my step up from a beginner bass. Has Ibanez 300. It was ok but getting good tones wasn't so awesome. This bass nails the tone. Never have a problem being heard in the mix. Features: Had to Balance the cost of a Fender Player series vs this bass. Frankly the maple neck with block inlays and the bordered neck is just a great look that wasn't available in the Player series. What I wish I had was the heavier bridge with the through body string mounting and the tuners could be better quality. My goal was getting the Fender J bass tones and it certainly has that. I don't mind the glossy neck in the least. Quality: I had to adjust the neck significantly. Action was obviously too high. I would say for a beginner level know that you may need to take this to someone to have it adjusted to a more playable condition. It was playable out of the box but was stressing my hand the longer I played. Value: Not gonna get a better classic sounding bass at this price point. The Wow Factor: Squire certainly nailed the look of this bass and it comes with all the pleasing curves of a Fender J bass. Plays and sounds great. Overall: Great looking bass. I got the blonde. Bordered maple neck with block inlays. It has a more "roasted" color than my blonde strat, I really like the look and it plays very well after some adjustment. I did have one dead note high up on the neck that may require some fret work. Tomes cant be beat at this price.
I really like the bass I found, I played a bunch of these and they were all different. I got this one brand new in the box after playing a floor model. But after opening and inspecting, the setup was not really that good, so I did the setup, polished a few minor flaws and it plays excellent. I noticed the sound and the tone variation when blending the volumes and the tone pot really makes a difference, I can say that this was not the case of all of them I played. Mine has a three piece body, I've seen 1 and 2 piece bodies as well in this same model. I could not find another three piece, that's why I fixed the problems and kept it, because it sounds so good, there is something definitely different about this one. The tone, volume and dynamics between the strings is very balanced and it speaks bass if you know what I mean. I would be hard pressed to find another bass like this one. The frets were level and dressed, no sprout or sharp edges. The finish was beyond reproach. Pros: This is a beautiful neck-through bass with a luscious satin mahogany body, and matte gold hardware. 5 control knobs – volume, pickup selector/tone, then 3 band EQ. Stays in tune. Great tone. Cons: The active pickups/EQ require TWO 9v batteries! Don't need changing often though (like every few years, playing 2 hours a week). The matte gold hardware is prone to some mild patina formation. In some electronic environments you get a bit of hiss from the pickups. I think fluorescent lights contribute to this. Mitigated by turning down the treble EQ knob, and fixed if your sound guy kills the highs on the mixer.blueflame1611
Overall: Absolutely BEAUTIFUL looking 5-string bass!!!! In your hands, in your sight, and in your lap, this guy is stunning. Stunning to look at and to handle. Schecter really nailed it on the Stiletto series. That low B sting is what I have been looking for in a bass for a while now. I mostly am into classic rock & country type of stuff. But I am also into 70's funk like Stevie Wonder. The low B is a MUST for old school funk and reggae. When I first got the guitar, it was way out of tune and every string vibrated like mad. So when you first get your guitar from zZounds, it is not set up. That is a chore for the end user. Which is great because a musician should not have to be completely reliant on a "professional" tech in order to perform basic comprehensive maintenance on their instrument. So, I emailed zZounds requesting some help and advice from them for the proper setup of my newly bought bass. As quick as that, they replied with a bunch of links to help me get myself up to speed. After reviewing the guides, I was able to tune my bass and set the truss rod properly. Now my Stiletto sounds dang near perfect! To be honest, I am not that great of a player. I do have a musical background, but I am pretty new on the bass. But I can tell you that the more I practice with this guy and listen and appreciate its wonderful sound through the Markbass I'm using, the more I am happy with this purchase. I now own 5 solid body neck-throughs: Two 4003's, two Warwicks, and this Schector, which just arrived yesterday. I don't think I'm a good enough expert to sit and analyze each bass's pros and cons, and then try them out with a bunch of different amp/speaker combinations. That's what they pay the guys at Bass Player for. All I can say is I haven't stopped grinning about this Studio-4 since I opened the box. Easy playability, excellent build quality, sexy looks, and a good, loud, punchy sound. What's not to like ? I will say this: The EQ knobs don't do a wide range of tone-shifting. The EMG pickups are very bright, modern-sounding, and with the stock Ernie Ball RW strings, that's exactly what I wanted. Plenty of glass up top, and a bit (maybe a bit too much) at the bottom. If you're looking for P-bass thud-thud Motown sound, my first thought is this may not be your best bet, although with flatwounds it would probably be within dial-able range on your rig. The rest is all good, and this would make a great bass for a student, a working bassist or the dedicated hack (that's me). If you're a world-famous bass soloist, this may not necessarily be the axe you'd take the stage with, but I'm betting you'd spend lots of time practicing your moves on it. It will keep up. I have been playing for over 50 years and have had many basses , over 60, now down to about 20. This bass I have had for three years and it is my no. 2 bass, The best way to review it is to compare it to my main bass, a Peavey Cirrus 5 Maple top. First of all, if you are talking value for the dolla, the Shecter can't be beat- ( Korea vs USA made Cirrus) . I love the fret markers offset on the Stilletto, the Cirrus doesn't have any, So with stage lighting, the Stiletto has an edge. The Peavey wins finish wise with real gold plated bridge and machines and a nicer glossy finish not counting the neck which I wet sand. The Peavey has a double truss rod and I am not sure on the Stiletto. The Stiletto finish is thin, but that doesn't bother me at all , I paid a third of the Peavey price and the Cirrus is a true high end bargain comparable to typical 1500 to 3500 dollar basses. American Cirrus are 900 to 1800 used. I find few players truly objective or even qualified to judge bass guitars. Most guys are creaming over their Fenders of Rickenbackers, or some version of a jazz with a bolt-on. Finally sound: the Peavey design pickups are better than the EMGs, but remember , I have not found or tried a better pickup at any price. With that being said , I love the EMGs . not fair comparing the radius topped Peaves to flat top anything. I have only been able to notice the difference over a year or so.
Over the years I have owned several bass guitars of varying quality and price range, some custom made and others hailed to be a top of the line model. This bass succeeds in playing, sounding and feeling like a top notch instrument. The electronics are very quiet, the neck feels natural for a 5 string and the weight is light comparatively speaking. The equalization offers a wide palette of tonal varieties and there has to be a sound to suit every bass player in this bass, even the most discerning. The low end is tight and expressive while the highs are clear and distinct. The Studio 5 is currently my favorite 5 string bass and I recommend this as a first choice instrument.denekawa
I bought this bass over 7 years ago and to this day I haven't felt the need to buy another bass. I've been on tour multiple times and played this thing all around the United States, and it has never let me down. Not even once. I run my own studio and about 70% of the bands that come in end up using this to record because it sounds better than almost every bass that a band might bring in. I've tuned it down to dropped F#, tuned it up to dropped B (B F# B E A) and it's handled everything, provided some modifications in string size. The only complaint I could possibly have with this gorgeous beast is that for whatever reason, if I rest my thumb on the neck pickup when it play (which is the most comfortable for me) it doesn't project very well on all the strings. It will project well on the lowest 2 or 3 strings, but not the D and G. I've changed the batteries, messed with the tone knobs, used compressors, nothing. No idea why it does this. If I rest my finger on the bridge pickup, then there's no problem, but it's not comfortable for me. If you play with a pick then this will not be an issue. One way or another this bass is the best investment I have ever made. I wouldn't be the person I am today had I not bought this instrument. You will not regret this purchase.B-REX

This bass is being used in church. It sounds great and looks great. There was a few things that needed attention. Action height needed lowering. Relief needed adjusting. Strings were replaced with Fender black,nylon wound. All adjustments were made to Fender specs (found on Fender website) for a P Bass. polished frets and conditioned fretboard. Its an incredible invest. All is great about it. Obly pointer is jack socket is a bit on the weak side noticeably. But just needs care and in tye long run ill excuqnge it for a better one. Some other details will be upgraded in the long run, qnd im sure if no bif accidents happen i got a decent bass for life. I am not a touring bassist though, i use it for rec9rding. Very happy with it overall, can handle many genrez. Very noiseless.
I know some musicians reflexively cringe a bit when they hear the name "Squier". But this bass is proof you can get a really good instrument for not a lot of money. I'm not a P-Bass expert, but to my ear, this bass sounds very pleasantly full and throaty with the tone knob wide open, and mellow and thumpy with it turned down. I'm also quite impressed with the quality control. The setup was pretty darn good right out of the box. I haven't needed to do a thing to it. I can't say the same even for my $900 Geddy Jazz, which arrived with mile-high action. One problem I did have was that one of the pickups was pressed all the way down and caught on the fingerboard. I popped it loose, but it remained a bit floppy. The guys at my local Sam Ash put some new foam under both pickups and now they're nice and tight. If you get one, you may want to add foam to make it stiffer. If you want a Precision Bass, but you're on a tight budget, this one will do very nicely. Bought this for my girl friend. At first my overall impression was: "meh." But I figured at least it's cheap. Very shortly after getting this brand new bass the e string broke. The GF was in tears. So I ran to the local guitar shop and purchased a set of D'addario EXL165 strings, as per their recommendations. Obviously whatever Ibanez put on was junk (broke and sounded and played horribly.) The new strings made this guitar come alive with tone and character. Differences in tone between bridge and neck pickups became very distinct. Much more sustain, bend, overall control and playability. Much easier on the fingers. She doesn't have to press as hard and no more buzz.Toytrk
