I've built several of these diddley bow kits and they're historically authentic, with the exception of using a new guitar tuner instead of a bent nail or whittled tuner. A cigar box makes a great resonator and these diddley bows sound nice and loud. These kits are just a little more involved than the C. B. Gitty "Pure & Simple" kit (also sold on Musician's Friend: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/c.b.-gitty-cigar-box-pure-simple-3-string-slide-guitar-kit). You'll need to cut a hole for the neck to go in…but it's still a very easy instrument to build. Great for pedagogy. The guitar is played with a slide (provided) and is a great way to learn the slide guitar concept. Blind Willie Johnson started out on a one-string "diddley bow" cigar box guitar and used a pocketknife for a slide. He developed his unique slide style from learning songs on a single string. Built my first cigar box guitar from odds and ends I had lying around after seeing a item on you tube and was pleased with the results but also saw a few short comings with it, so the main reason I bought the book was for ideas and it delivers them in bucket fulls, there is nothing to dislike about this book and it's just amazing the lengths of some peoples imagination. If anybody is in a similar position I highly recommend this book and even if you don't want to build one yourself it's a very entertaining book and very good value for money.jgri3778

I have made home made guitars in the past, but these are so much fun!You can screw something up and cover it up with whatever, and just act like you planned it that way.I'm making about one a week in my spare time,and using up allot of old guitar stuff that I would have thrown away.The author and I have two things very much in common-an obsession for cigar box guitars and the same name.
