I really like this and they look really cool against my maple strat or my ebony neck strat. Sound is great and unlike a lot of others I have played on my first set perhaps a half dozen times and I am not seeing the coating wear off as some state. There are perhaps a couple small spots where the coating is missing but hardly noticable. Smoother to the touch, less fret wear and using a high end board and half stack my tones are as good or better than they have ever been. I dig these and plan to make them my std on acooustic as well. Getting rid of that squeek on acoustic (even using finger ease) might make me play it a little more. The same size acoustic strings are a lot cheaper, they always raise the price when things get popular. I play in D standard, and have been at it for 23 years. I've tried all brands and gauges, but these stick out as one of my top five favorites, and I came across them by accident. I wanted to buy a set of 11-50 DR TiteFits and accidentally bought these. When i got home I looked at the pack, realized I got the wrong pack and thought, "Black coated strings?! What a gimmick." Still I figured, why not try them out. Was I glad I did. Heavy and thick for melodic riffs and chords. Brights are crisp and clear. Smooth on the fingers and fretboard. I have a black guitar so they look fantastic as well. One thing, the part of the string that is picked fades after awhile, but it is no different than what happens to nickel plated strings. I waited months to write this review as part of the selling point is extra life-durability, and they deilver. They've lasted longer than any string I've had and have never broke one. Don't be scared away by the coating,colour or cost. I used to be one of those guys that said he'd never play on coated strings, but that was before I tried them. Pros: Look really good at first. Stay in tune real well. Slick feeling. Cons: Coating randomly wears off quickly. Dull sounding compared to Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. Bottom line, these strings aren't reallyworth the money. The only thing they do is hold your tuning real well and they're very stretchy and I've yet to break one.

These strings sound different, in a good way. They are warm sounding with no hint of piercing harmonics and they stay in tune for days. Normally I have to tune every day on the strat but not these. They feel super comfortable on the fingers. I've tried several brands and these will be my choice from now on. Next I'll have to try the acoustics. These strings sound about as good as any pure nickel set can, and at a great price for the quality you receive. Most importantly to me, they feel great. The wound strings are not too stiff even though they are larger than a regular 10 gauge set. I've always preferred a wound g string and these manage to have that in a comfortable sized set for me. I have a first gen Fender Telecoustic [2002] that I use as a travel guitar and for certain song parts live and in the home studio. I had been using extra light acoustic strings, which worked pretty well, but I recently started using the XL115W's and they are perfect for this guitar. The acoustic sound is bright and clear and the electric sound is just awesome – giving me all I could want. If you're looking for a different approach to stringing up your acoustic-electric, give these strings a try. BTW I tried the XL110W's on the Telecoustic first and liked them, but the 115's are perfect.
After buying these strings and slapping them on my Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow, I can honestly say that the best thing I have ever did to improve my guitar's tone was put higher gauge strings on it. Maybe semi-hollows just resonate better with them, not sure. The round 3rd string is pretty clutch – the strings I used to put on would have a very noisy, tinny-sounding 3rd string and having a wound one like this has completely solved that issue. My Artcore would just sound too twangy in general with lighter strings on it, too – and having heavier gauge strings improved that issue by leaps and bounds. I'm not exactly an expert in tone so I can't argue about the finer points of the sound these strings make – but my bottom line is, they help me to better access the range of sounds that I want from my instrument, and that's what matters. Definitely 5 stars for tone. I have one complaint though: I am an abusive bender, as it were. When I bend the strings, I push their limits pretty friggin hard, and these particular strings will only take so much. Had a string break on me yesterday while I was bending really hard but I had another set hanging around so it was all good. My lighter gauge strings from before would withstand this abuse beautifully – but just keep in mind that when you move up to thicker strings, you're making a trade-off: the thicker strings will wear out and break more quickly if you push them too hard and bend them abusively like I do. On the subject of bending, also: with the wound 3rd string, if you want to bend it, you need to bend it a lot further to get the interval that you want, so just be prepared for that. All in all however, I am VERY happy with these strings. I'll have to take it easy on the bending a little bit, but for me that's more than a worthy trade-off for strings that really make my baby sing like she should. I can't necessarily speak for how these would sound on other guitars because I've never heard what they sound like on others, but I would MOST DEFINITELY recommend them for anyone playing a hollow or semi-hollow guitar. These strings helped with tuning stability issues I was having with an (Indonesian, fat neck) Epiphone 335 Dot, which I love but the unwound G string was going out of tune. Swapped out the bridge (Guitar Fetish–nice choice and half the price of TonePro) and the nut (Graph Tech), which also helped. I retained the lower three strings from the 'Heavy Bottom" set I had on it already. The top 3 strings sound great, but I've only had 'em on for a few days. I also put these on another 335-style guitar, but the bottom 3 strings felt just a bit flimsy switching back and forth with the Epi, not surprisingly. They sound good, nice and acoustically rich.Doc

I've been meaning to give SIT strings a try for awhile now. Finally did and all I can say is I wish I had started using them a long time ago. EXCELLENT strings. Stay in tune better than any other string I've used. I used a well known brand for years and seems a lot of other musicians did as well. I got tired of tuning after every song. Now with SIT if they're out of tune it isn't by much. My intonation is better, tone is great for my tele and stat. I use the 1150 Power Wound and I am recommended them to all my fellow musican brothers.Mike
I was looking for a set of strings for my Telecaster, which has a P90 at neck. The tone I like most is within the range of pop/classic rock/hard rock. Two other sets for my reference are Ernie Ball 2250 Classic Pure Nickel Power Slinky and Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt in 11s, which I use regularly on my two other guitars. S1150 gives a full, smooth clean sound. It has a stronger mid presence comparing to the Ernie Balls. The high is smoothly rolled off so even the Tele bridge clean tone (which I won't use that often) doesn't have a strong honky character. I guess it's not the best if your pickups are already mid-strong, like a serial humbucker. For distortion, it provides a medium granularity. So it gets into the hard rock territory but not the heavy metal domain. The Ernie Balls sounds finer and the SITs gives a more in your face feeling. In summary, it provides a different tone than the Ernie Balls so I'll associate it with my Tele for a long time. It's probably not the best choice if you are looking for a more angular/aggressive sound, but it's a safe choice for the tone conservatives.immyownpet

I used to have to buy the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom and Power Slinky set in order to get the low and high strings that I preferred but ever since Ernie Ball came out with this set I don't have to. The biggest selling point for Super Slinky strings is their magnificent tone. There really aren't any strings that sound better than these for hard rock. But as others have noted, they are sometimes prone to premature breakage of the unwound strings at the ball end. It you use a locking tremolo like a Floyd Rose, then this isn't an issue, as you'll be cutting off the ball ends anyway. But for everyone else, he's a trick that I (and many other players) have been using for Super Slinky's ever since the 80's. Just grab your soldering iron and solder the string down where it's twisted around the ball. Just be sure that the twisted part is nicely coated with solder and you shouldn't have any more problems with early breakage. Don't worry, it won't mess up their tone of anything like that… not if you do it right. Try it and see!Rasterburn
These are really nice! They deliver very warm and round tones when playing clean; however, when using overdrive or distortion, the tone becomes pretty monstrous! Because of their thickness, understand they're not made for easy bends and jazzy licks. Additionally, if your guitar is set-up for 9's, or even 10's, you'll need to make slight adjustments in your action, especially if you're using a trem.Shane S.

I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years, performing in several bands on rhythm and lead electric guitar. I currently mostly play a PRS Custom 24, a Fender Strat Elite and a couple ESP’s I’m fond of. I have always used the ‘big name, low cost’ strings until I decided to give Stringjoy a try and see if there is really any difference. I was blown away. The strings are smooth as silk, feel consistent up and down the neck and from low E to high E, and they stay in tune much better than any of my previous strings. I usually use my fingernail to run along the underside of the thinnest E string, to feel for bumps in the string caused by the frets. It’s a quick way to check to see if it’s time to change strings. After 2+ weeks of daily play, I feel very little fret indentation on the Stringjoy strings, much longer than I am used to. I find myself picking up the guitar more often, getting more creative, and figuring out leads I hadn’t pulled off before. first thing you notice upon opening the package is the ball end and wrap of the string. the wrap goes right up to the ball end with NO slack (if you look at commercial grade brands the ball is loose and the wraps look weak) the length is extra long so you have plenty of sting for any scale neck the balance of the light 10’s is different in that the 48 on the low E looks like it would be heavy at first however, when you string ur ax up you notice a FULL rich tone and the stings feel very strong under your fingers. They bend with ease and the 48 does NOT feel heavy at all! although they are not “coated†the very tight wrap of the winding gives a smooth and fast feel similar to a coated sting. a HUGE plus for a guy that likes coated strings and is converting over! after giving them a proper stretch I tried to intentionally knock them out of tune with a heavy hand while playing both rhythm and lead playing….they stayed perfectly in tune put my freshly strung ax in my gig bag and headed out to my gig (hour away)..took it out once arrived, was still in tune…played the gig…stayed in tune… woke up the next morning and grabbed my guitar for my morning strum and some coffee…you guessed it…STILL in tune! Extremely musical and beefy tone from StringJoy! Everyone should really try these, its tricky to describe with words but no doubt, any guitar player would feel and hear the difference IMMEDIATELY! Fantastic set! Took my standard scale six-string to new lows! It’s a bit loose but useable in G but about perfect for G# on my SE archtop Rich Bich. I like the strings, but the over advertising on emails is really annoying. I’m not sure who is your marketing manager, but your time would be well spent at NAAM, Local guitar dealers, online advertising, etc. Maybe even getting a contract to put your strings on specialty guitars from the manufacturer, along with specs that only you meet. Such a great product, but it’s really not out there and non-stop emails are annoying to every person. Good luck as a company, hope the honest feed back helps.John L
I had been reading about these strings in forums etc and was intrigued. Decided to try a set or two and see what was up. I bought the 10-52 Signatures. Well, I have been using them for a month and a half and all I can say is, believe the hype. The feel great, nice on the fingers, and it seems like the difference in quality of the metal is noticeable. I mean, it feels that way. Maybe it's something else. I don't know but they feel good, hold tune very well and settle in easy right after they're strung up. In six weeks of home playing they have not diminished in tone or tuning stability at all. I am already subscribing for three sets every two months as well. Love my stringjoys.Brian H

These strings help. These strings are awesome. The tone is amazing. Occasionally, I have to tune down one-half step. These strings are one of the few that will work well in both standard and dropped tunings. If the guitar is set up correctly, these strings aren't an issue. This means a very low action isn't going to happen. Medium strings work with medium action. If the action is too low for the string gauge, your guitar will buzz and become uncomfortable. Since more metal will drive your magnets with more oomph, using slightly heavier strings is a very cost effective way to improve your tone. I've been usinging EXL115 strings and their less eco-frinedly packaged predecessor XL115 since the late 1980s. I've tried other brands with exactly the same gauge. These typically worked as well for slightly more money, and I suspect that they where cranked out of the same factory.AZ Bluesman
I have put these on a Gibson 335 copy guitar, in place of my usual D'Addario 10's gauge, and I find the tone and feel even better than it was before, the extra beef on the shorter scale neck suits it very well. Still light enough to play comfortably, but now feels a better balance, for me it was just slightly underpowered with 10's gauge on that type of instrument, whereas 10's gauge is pretty much perfect on a Fender scale length neck.Christopher W.

When I got the guitar, it needed fresh strings and after showing it off to my local music store, they suggested a set of D'Addario Nickle Plated 11's since I don't do much string bending. In my own application, they worked since I use 12's on my acoustics and 10's on my LP and Strat. After putting them on my J-3, the sound was great! These strings are clear, bright, but also full bodied in their tone. They were a great choice for this application. Plus, the price at MF is also a plus. SInce I don't use my jazz as often as my other guitars, these strings hold up well and long. Usually, the main reason for my changing them out is build up on the strings from my fingers or it's been over 6 months since the last string change.
