I have owned tube amps of all price ranges and name brands you all recognize for the the last 30 years. Mullard IMO makes the best sounding tubes. My Dr Z has never sounded better or had more power/articulation. The problem today is that people expect to get similar tone from modeling amps or other digital versions of amps. There is no substitute for a tube amp miked up in a good room played at loud volume. I've played on scores of recordings and played with some of the biggest studio guys to grace the walls of LA/Nashville studios. I would buy this again and again because I might have to since they are being used in a Blues Jr. Not modded. If you know the Jrs they are notorious for running power tubes hot. So I hope there is a way to get tubes soon cause Im gonna need em. and they work great in my Blues Jr. No more noise coming from the amp. I purchased this tube (GZ34S) in for use in a Dynaco ST-70 I rebuilt. It worked great for about 5 weeks then I accidentally hot switched the amp and the rectifier promptly flashed over internally. Yes, this is my fault but upon examination of the tube under the magnifier the cathode and plate connections on one side were just too close to each other. I rated the tube a 3-star for product construction, perhaps this is too harsh but darn it… On the other hand, I am very happy this was only a $15.00 tube! I would buy it again, especially for trying out new constructions and first time power up.NoSpark
I always buy Russian tubes over Chinese. Although the Sovtek sourced tubes are NOS of varying vintages (usually 2000-2005) Ive found them to be of much better quality and longer lasting for daily service vs. Chinese tubes… which are just ok for light use IMO. Older US-made tubes from the 50's & 60's & 70's are fine for radio/gear restoration, but not ideal for daily/continuous duty in modern studio equipment. Plus, you're paying almost the same or higher price for a 50 year old product of unknown condition.capitalgold680
Big, full-bodied tone; like an EL34, but with more headroom and full, tight bottom end. The highs are punchy but not piercing. I put them in my Diezel Paul 45 watt head…they're stock in many Diezel amps, and it's a great fit. I'll have to try them in my Marshalls one of these days.karl

This was a matched pair of 6L6GC tubes, at a low price but the plastic key was broken off one of the tubes, this was clearly shown in the pictures. So I was a little Leary since this generally indicates rough handling, but for the price I thought I'd give it a try. Both tubes arrived quickly an we're well packed, no other damage was evident. I replaced the stock Sovtek 5881WXT tubes with a matched pair of these in my ‘92ish Blues DeVille and I really like them. The Sovteks had a harsh high end and muddy low end that was hard to dial out. These seem to fit the sound I want and put that tone closer to the middle of my dial settings.TVK

Refurbished Firestone “Air Chief” AM/FM tube radio circa 1950. AM worked (kinda), but FM was dead. Replaced paper capacitors with Mylar and a couple of burned up carbon resistors. Tested tubes, and many were bad or weak, so I replaced all tubes from TubesAndMore. Now works great.John

I bought these along with the 12ax7 Tung Sol preamp for my Fender Super Champ x2 head( came with Groove tubes). I play three guitars through the head An Ovation acoustic Electric, on the clean channel. An Epiphone Dot Studio and a Les Paul mostly through Channel 2. The results are outstanding. Each guitar has its own character, however the top end is more pronounced, the Dot and Les Paul now have the "old school" chime without sacrificing the mid and bottom. The Ovation is cleaner but with some low end enhancement. Great Tubes. If you want to bring your Champ, Princeton or Deluxe Reverb to life these are the tubes. The Matched Medium Duet are an exact replacement(no biasing)according to my research.Peter12
For starters, I just play at home, I play a Gibson L.P., Fender USA Strat and an Eastman T486, (335 clone) blues & classic rock is "my thing." My one amp is a Vintage Sound, Vintage 15 hand wired "Princeton clone" using a 5Y3 J.J. rectifier. I've tried TAD's, J.J.'s and Tungsol's. I've now been using Tungsol 6V6's for 10 years with no desire to try anything else. Hands down I found that the Tungsol's give me the "sound and the feel" that I've been looking for. Years ago, when they first came out there was a "quality problem" with them, hit or miss, some of them didn't last too long. But that problem has been solved for quite a while now and I easily get 2+ years out of a pair of them with no problems at all. (4-6 hrs. a week @ medium-to-medium low volume) To me they're "the perfect match" power tubes for my amp.Bob
I replaced the original power tube in my VHT Special 6 Ultra with this tube, and wow! It breaks up much later allowing me to play the amp at full volume with brilliant definition and clarity. At the top, the distort cleanly and smoothly, musically and beautifully. It is also more quiet than the original tube, louder, but has still preserved the sound of the amp. Its just made it more-better! On another note, there were packaged just like the two preamp tubes I ordered were, thrown in the bottom of a small box, packing paper squeezed in on top of the, and the box sealed. They arrived one intact (currently in my amp of course), and one broken by some impact during shipping. I emailed the GC customer service about this when the preamp tubes arrived and got no reply. This could have easily been avoided by taking 3-5 seconds to wrap the tubes in the packing paper. I have not written their customer service department about this since my last attempt to communicate with them was ignored, so I feel that it would be pointless to do so. I will continue to do business with GC, but will never order anything from them that must be shipped to me. Anything delivered to the store will be inspected and/or tested before I leave the store with it.

After the original Sylvania 6L6GC tubes in my Peavey VTM60 head – from 1987 – needed to be changed, some 12 years ago, or so, I've tried different brands of tubes, but the most reliable and greatest sounding tubes for my amp have turned out to be the EH 6L6GC and the Sovtek 6L6WXT+. The Sovtek and the EH tube is in fact excactly the same tube. The EH is only a rebranded Sovtek 6L6WXT+.made at the same factory. in Saratov, Russia for the New Sensor Corporation. They sound exactly the same. The old Sovtek 6LGC was a completely different tube, and the 20% increased power some refer to is compared to the Sovtek 5881 or the old Russian 6P3S and likes. These tubes are often sold and mis labeled as 6l6GC tubes, which they are not… There's a lot of misinformation about Russian tubes it seems? I play mostly Classic Rock and Heavy Rock, and for my style of playing these tubes are just perfect. At loud volume they compress and distort early with a warm sound, but yet they still remain detailed, and I like that very much. They are also quiet, with no hiss and microphonics at all, and they take a lot of beating. In fact I've never had a failure with any of these tubes. Passed the road test. I also like that they are not so expensive. Thanks to Tubedepot for great prices, great service and great tubes.

Have an octet of the EH Kt88's in my Primaluna dialogue premium HP amp that are 3years in running 4_7 hours daily. IMO,much better bass,better definition,power of music than El 34's or 6550's. Just installed this quartet of Electro Harmonix KT-88's… They replaced my New Sensor 'Gold Lions' which date back to my rebuilding the Dynaco Mark III mono blocks in my audio system 6 years ago. One of the tubes had began to 'red plate' and I knew it was time for replacement…Reading the reviews and a finding one from another Dynaco owner helped me to make my decision to give the EH's a try.The sound is warm and musical through the Klipschorns.. I finally needed to replace the 6550's in my rebuilt Dynaco MK III power amps. The Sovtek 6550 WA's I put in in 1995 were wearing out. I had a quartet of Svetlana 6550 B tubes, the ones with "pill" getters and clear glass (no getterflash), but they were not built to take the voltages in a Dynaco MK III and there was a slight glow on the plates, even at low bias settings. Rather than burn them up, I bought a matched quartet of these Electro-Harmonix KT88's. So far, so good. They are holding the bias setting very well and are showing no signs of stress. I'll post a followup after they see some more use.gflash

This was a matched pair of 6L6GC tubes, at a low price but the plastic key was broken off one of the tubes, this was clearly shown in the pictures. So I was a little Leary since this generally indicates rough handling, but for the price I thought I'd give it a try. Both tubes arrived quickly an we're well packed, no other damage was evident. Long story short, they worked great, so this was a good value.jken6547
Needed a new 6l6gc for my vintage PA head guitar amp. The 'vintage NOS' tube I had sourced was microphonic and causing some uncool sounds. Figured I get everything else from MF, so why not? Had it in my hand 2 days later, nicely protected in the box. Put it in the amp and it worked a treat. I am completely satisfied. Made the amp sound way better.Myxlplyx
I replaced the stock Sovtek 5881WXT tubes with a matched pair of these in my ‘92ish Blues DeVille and I really like them. The Sovteks had a harsh high end and muddy low end that was hard to dial out. These seem to fit the sound I want and put that tone closer to the middle of my dial settings.TVK

I bought two matched sets: A medium quartet and a hard quartet. I installed the hard quartet set into my Peavey classic 30. Fired it up and played a few minutes and my amp blew a fuse. First time since I owned it. Short story: One of the tubes from the matched set (hard) was bad. Now I am stuck with three tubes that match nothing but each other. The good news is: I installed the medium set in my amp (after replacing the fuse). The tubes sound pretty darn good I must say. Therefore, not sure if it was a fluke (I read another post on here where a guy had the same problem), but, I think I would try them again or even recommend them to others. The point of redemption for Sovtek was the fact that one of the matched sets is fine (medium) and they sound superb in my classic 30.Ohio Stratz
Tested these tubes against TADs and JJs in a home-built amp with a preamp based on the JCM800. These have a clearer distortion sound, if that makes sense. Also these have notably more midrange and smoother highs than the TADs and JJs. I highly recommend these for any EL84 amp in which you want to get a smooth power amp distortion sound and get clarity without harsh treble.Alf

I snagged this matched pair of JJ's to replace a blown stock Ruby 6L6 set – after biasing to my amps specifications, this set of tubes truly helped my Diavlo RD100h unleash it's inner beast – I noticed that it was factory-biased a lot lower than recommended, and after throwing these in and setting everything up, it truly screams – I'm VERY happy with these and will be buying another set soon, and probably a backup set! My amp's power tubes went out. Not unlike many of you, I looked for who had them in stock, as most retailers have been out due to the embargo. I was pleased to see that Sam Ash not only had them but weren't price gouging the consumer. Regarding the JJs: bright and clear is my impression of them. Can't go wrong with them.E
