Reviews:
Got this Amplug Blues today plugged it into my Strat and it sounds great! and I highly recommend it! Now is it perfect? the answer is the usual NO. I think it can be improved on as follows. 1. Put a little color on the dials… the plastic is all black and the plug can rotate to different orientations. Would really be nice to have the dials stand out better with different colors. 2. Change the AA batteries to USB rechargeable Lipo battery. No reason to burn batteries when you can recharge! 3. My main change request is to have Bluetooth Audio In because you plug in the Amplug and then connect headphones (great for practicing). But to add audio to jam to you need to connect another cable to the Aux jack. So for me it just get's to be too much. Since nearly everyone has a smart phone it would be great to use Bluetooth for the Audio In so you can wirelessly play jam track and stuff without needing the 2nd cable. But it does sound really good and I'm keeping it!Harpster58
I regret, that I was mistaken in my previous review. I had claimed that the sound was great – but, that some functions were missing, after about a month of use. That is not true. I re-read the slightly, confusing, manual. The unit itself is – slightly, confusing* – but, it does work the way it is supposed to. In fact, you have a serious selection of effects – at least, three levels, of each one of, three effects – far more than other units in this category of headphone amplifier. The sound is incredible – the thing's got, big, b*alls! – and that, in itself, is worth five stars. Amazing job!
*The effects are split by two different buttons at two different ends of the unit, which makes it a bit uncomfortable.Dale Alan Bryant

Firstly, the sound is heavily determined by your pickups and what headphones you use. I use this to practice in the mornings when it's too early to use my valve amplifier. I play mostly metal and shred. I have used this device with a range of guitars. The one I use most is equipped with an EMG85 and an EMG60. Active pickups through this device results in a significant amplification of unwanted string noise, when using the high gain setting. For me, this is positive – it teaches me to slow down and focus on proper technique. If you dial back the gain, this "issue" goes away. The built in effects also sound very good. The only thing I would change is the sensitivity of the volume knob. 3 is already loud enough, and 10 is deafening. If you accidentally knock the wheel, you're going to hurt your ears. Keep in mind, the positive Star ratings above are based on price: For the money it is a very good piece of equipment. Yes, it is made of a thin plastic, but as long as you aren't careless with it, that should not be an issue. The battery life could be better: I get around 14 hours out of it, maybe shorter. This is with no effects. I have replaced the provided batteries with Duracell now, so this may increase. If they had a more expensive version with more rugged materials, I would buy it without hesitation

Reviews:
What a great sounding mini amp. I've had to use headphone mini amps for the last 15 years due to time constraints and location of practice area. I didn't want to use the precious practice time I had just to set up full size amp for only an hour or so and then return everything back to storage area. It was so much simpler and convenient just to plug a mini amp into my guitar, put on head set and play. Down side was always the quality of the mini amps I was using. I was getting them for around half of what a vox cost.. I always wanted a vox but they were expensive. After joining mf rewards club and making several purchases I bought my vox for about half price by applying my points to the purchase. I should have never waited. This vox is 10 times better than the cheaper brands. As soon as I opened the packaging and held it in my hand I could feel the quality. When I first plugged it in and started playing I got really upset. Not at the mini amp but at myself for waiting so long. I highly recommend buying this mini amp. Trust me. It's really worth it and you'll be glad you did.Horn
I have enjoyed playing with this headphone amp quite a bit. It is lightweight, has a lot of features for the price and is easy to use. The one set back I have experienced, is that the plug in jack does not lock in a position, it has loosened with use. I can reccomend this type of amp for anyone who wants to practice with volume and effects that should not disturb others. I will likely purchase other styles of this headphone amp in the future.
Cannot praise this device highly enough. It sounds great, and is ridiculously versatile for such a small device, comprising not only Gain, Tone and Volume controls, together with three levels each of effects options Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but also Clean, Crunch and Lead. Two AAA batteries are required (included), and give hours of usage. Just plug it into your guitar, attach headphones (decent pair of over-ear type are best, but don't need to be expensive) and, if wishing to practice over a track by your favourite band, simply attach an appropriate device such as a tablet or 'phone. If you require to free your amPlug2 sound from the confines of headphones, Vox also offer a mini, 2 watt, amPlug2 amp/speaker to which you attach your amPlug2 and play out loud (but not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. The wonderful Vox 50 watt amp/cab stack Mini Superbeetle Audio blue tooth speaker also doubles as a guitar amp, complete with amPlug2 compatibility, but at full volume, this would definitely annoy the next door neighbours, and possibly those further afield. The amPlug has given me new found freedom to play and practice without needing to wait for opportunities where it can be done without audibly intruding on the personal space of others in the household. I have subsequently invested in the equally good Classic Rock amPlug2 (and which, on balance, I prefer), together with both the aforementioned Vox Mini amPlug2 cab/speaker and Superbeetle Audio blue tooth amp/speaker stack. Basically, the freedom afforded by the amPlug2 headphone amp has reinvigorated my love of guitar playing, and I try to squeeze in some practice time on a daily basis. I even felt enthused enough to unnecessarily treat myself to a new guitar. This amPlug2 is real value for money, but it has inadvertently cost me a small fortune.johnclark1954

I Love the tone and sound of the AC 30, I had one some time ago but had to sell it and have regretted it ever since, so I was very happy when I found one at a great price. No other Amp sounds like it, and if bands from the Beatles to Queen used them exclusively, what stronger recommendation do you need. Vox Rules!!!!!!!!rzing20480_2000

Reviews:
Just got this Vox Amplug2 in the mail. Brought it in, unboxed it, tore open the package, oh nice-comes with batteries! Stuck them in. Got my 5string, my phone, an aux cord, and headphones. Plugged everything up, turn on the little amp, turn up the volume, punch up a song on YouTube, adjust volumes to suit. I've been playing with Willie Dixon and Black Sabbath all night now 🙂 I've turned all the little knobs. Tone is basic, down is thick, up is brighter. Tried the drums, very cool, but i haven't gone through the different settings, just the first couple drum sounds. I'm happy with it. But for the past three hours I've just had everything on the amp all the way up, and adjust tone and volume on the guitar, then adjust the aux volume on the phone. Works just fine. Perfect for practice and unbeatable for the price. Be a bit careful with it, the plastic won't take a lot of abuse, but it's plenty durable to sit on the chair and practice.
I've been looking for a way to practice without having the hassle of amplifiers. I've always practiced my electric bass unamplified. I considered an acoustic bass but ultimately decided on this product. It works great for practice. Some other reviews complained about noise. There is some noise, but not enough to keep me from practicing. I wouldn't record with it, but hey, it runs on 2 AAA batteries, what do you expect? For the money I'd expect it to be made of better plastic. The case has a somewhat lightweight and textured feel. It would also be nice if it was Bluetooth capable for aux/headphone connections.Pete
I have been very excited with this wee amplifier. It plugs directly into the bass' output jack. There are dial-controlled volume and tone controls which work perfectly and provide well-designed volume and tone sweeps The sound has 3 press-button activated gain levels, and a small colored light which changes color to show which is switched on. Two options, with orange or red colors in the single lamp, are quite low in volume (too low I think) but the third, when the green light is on is excellent, potent with a bit of growl – think Jack Casady, I say! There is an output jack for headphones – plenty of volume available – and an input jack to run, for example, an iPad into the Vox. So, you can privately play along with any music you have stored on an iPad! Powered by 2 AAA batteries, which come with it. Absolutely amazing device. A beginner can buy a bass, use this amp without even needing to purchase a guitar cable, and be ready to begin. The "headphone" output can be plugged into an amplifier's auxiliary socket (my small Ampeg amps are wired to "center" a stereo input signal) or a home sound system using a mini-plug- to- 1/4" stereo converter jack and perhaps a mini-plug-ended extension cable, sold everywhere in various lengths. So one could practice and have the combined sound of iPad and one's instrument sent to an amp. You can overwhelm the Vox and make it bark by too much input volume from your bass or by suddenly too-hard pick strikes, but if you moderate that a little it is fine. Superb device!unclefot

The sound quality isn`t the best, but really good considering no amp is required. It`s great being able to play tracks through the headphones. It has been very useful, as I often work away from home and can practice silently in the hotel room, without having to take my practice amp.Dave T.
These are an amazing headset/amp. They look sound and feel much more expensive than the actual cost. It is great to be able to practice without having to get out my amp and trail cables across the floor. I would recommend both these and the bass set to anyone wanting to get a headset for home practice, as these don’t require purchasing an amp as well.

This was on sale for 1/2 price and I thought I'd try it despite the mixed reviews I'd read about the unit. For the folks who have got it to work – they love it. Others that can't get it to work usually return it. Apparently there is a high return rate and I think that's why I got mine for 1/2 price. I installed the software both on my PC and Tablet both running windows 10. I've been trying to find the right setup with and without different drivers, fine tuning the input and output in "preferences", etc on both my PC and Tablet. Bottomline, after 3 weeks of adjusting and fine tuning, I given up trying to get this to work correctly. The 2 stars I gave this unit is for the software – it works, it has pretty good features but I just can't hear my guitar without the constant annoying grating static that's there all the time. I was going to return it until I read MFs return policy. "Return shipping costs are your responsibility…" And, "If you received free shipping…the uncharged shipping cost will be deducted from your refund". So I'd be lucky to get anything back after deducting all the shipping costs from the sale price I paid.Bill
Purchased the device and downloaded software and read manual online. Product does not come with any documentation. In order to activate software, you need an activation code. After spending an hour online reading manual and trying to figure out how to get the code, tried Musician friend chat. After spending another 20 minutes on chat and registering the product, said I would need to contact VOX directly for the code. Did not want to spend any more time so asked for RMA number. Was told they would give me a RMA number but not pay return shipping unless I contact VOX directly. Did not confirm, but think this unit only comes with a 15 day trial for software and then you have to pay 99.00 for the licence. Mine is in the garbage. If you have 3 hours to get it working, may be worthwhile but think "software include" it is misrepresented by MF. At Minimum, it is a headache to get a software code. Have been purchasing from MF for many years and this was the 1st time I used chat. Disappointed with service.Joey
Although some people report that this device is awesome (the experience I was hoping for) it seems like they really didn't test it. Their website says "May not work on some computers." which is a silly cop out for "we didn't really test it so no idea what it conflicts with". I spent hours trying to execute all the recommendations on their site, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and left a detailed message explaining how closely I followed all the information in the support section of the product. 3 days later (yes… 3 days) I get an automated email that says what the product is supposed to do and that support is available on their website. No phone call, no indication that they read my email, no indication that they even care if I send it back, which is what I am doing. Going back today. Good cheap way to learn about a company and their ethics. Will save me from getting a VOX amp or any other product that VOX or Korg have. If you see others have success with this product, realize that it is hit or miss. It didn't just work for them because they have better computer skills than you, they just didn't have whatever random conflict scenario that prevents it from working. I really like another VOX Amplug I bought a few days later but thinking of returning both because of my new opinion of the company. The software is free, I had no problem downloading it. It just doesn't work because my Windows 7 laptop can't recognize the device. I am sure if some technician spent 3 minutes on the phone they could have helped. There are so many quirks that support technicians come in contact with that it's far simpler for them to point out what could be uninstalled than for us to spend our time guessing through it. Too bad I couldn't give it 0 or negative stars.kramerGWT
11. Vox Ap2bs Amplug 2 Guitar/bass Headphone Amplifier
Reviews:
On paper it seems like a great idea. Unfortunately, in practice, using high quality studio headphones, the instrument circuit not only is very noisy (lots of high frequency hiss), it is not capable of amplifying any frequency below about 200 Hz. Unfortunately, this removes the bass fundamental and first harmonic, which makes a bass sound like an AM radio. No amount of gain or tone adjustments will correct the problem. On a positive note, the drum rhythm circuit works!drgary52
Im a bassist. This is not for bass. Cant get the volume on the lower strings ie B, E, and A anymore than putting your chin on the horn of the guitar. Definitely need a quiet room and then very disappointing. Surprised Vox would put their name on it. Lot of money for junk. Probably would work okay for guitar.bigcam_us2
Great item for the price but be careful of the unit it is small and delicate. While practicing like sitting on the couch watching tv be careful of the unit to not crush or twist the VOX into anything, it could break. The unit still has no real bottom end so it does get a good fuzz sound on. The drum machine is nothing to talk about has one beat only no jazz or slower beats. It works you can hear your scales and still hear the TV or if your playing along with a song you can do it. Good Luck….vertiport

The Vox AC30 G2 headphone amp is a fun piece of equipment. It is quite versatile in the sense that it has a line out, so you can record though your software, analog equipment or whatever you are using to record guitar. There are half a dozen built in guitar effects, which can be activated by pressing the FX button. The LED will light up a different color based on which effect is activated. This amp is powered by 2 AAA batteries. This amp sounds like the classic Vox AC30; it has a classic 60's and 70's British rock sound. So it's not gonna sound like an overdriven Marshall stack with that heavy mid guitar sound. It will get kind of a Brian May type of sound. This is a fun amp, and it is perfect for practicing quietly . The durability seems weak, it's lightweight plastic, so it will take time to evaluate the longevity of this headphone amp. But so far so good.tom
First off, I'm a dabbler and not a professional. I bought this so I could practice on my electric guitar without disturbing everyone else. For that purpose it is excellent. The package comes with a small instruction pamphlet which is tucked into the folded cardboard backing. It's easy to miss it. You need the instructions because it's not obvious how to operate the device without them. But the instructions are easy to download as a PDF from the manufacturer's website. You're not going to replace all your pedals with this inexpensive device but it does include an impressive array of built-in features such as tremolo, reverb, distortion, tone and (I haven't tried it) Rhythm. It does a great job of mixing the AUX input with the input from the instrument. I use it with my laptop and Band in a Box. Adjust the AUX level at its source (the laptop or player) to an acceptable level and then use the controls on the amPlug to adjust the volume of the instrument to your taste. Listening to the resultant sound through headphones is impressive.gixxernaut
If you want the straight up Brit Grit of the VOX AC30 this little device delivers great sounding tones. It sounds very good clean, and GREAT with gain added. The distortion from the gain is tight, very bluesy, and provides the crunch for classic rock. I have played an Epiphone 335, a Gibson SG, and Fender Strat through the device and each instruments sounded good. But, the amp really brings out the blues tomes on the Gibson and Fender. The amp gets LOUD, maybe too loud if you care about damaging your hearing. I like my music loud enough to hear it, feel it, and be inspired by it, and I can accomplish this with a minimal volume adjustment. There are three effect settings; tremolo, reverb, and delay, but they are basically useless to me because i don't use effects, and the effects cannot be adjusted to serve any useful, or musically desirable purpose. For example, a little bit of delay can be cool, but the delay on this device is enough to make you dizzy, and the same can be said for the tremolo function. Reverb too… who uses reverb anymore? I am a hard core blues and classic rock guy and I think reverb is dated… I am spoiled though, I play through Fender tube amps and bells and whistles are not really my thing. All i need is myself, my guitar and red hot tube amp and I am good to go. And the from this standpoint the VOX AC30 gets the job done very well. (It) is fragile and one must be careful handling (it) and the guitar while (it) is attached to avoid breaking (it), but if you are careful (it) is just fine. By the way, (it) connected to the guitars I mentioned earlier without any problems. If you want to jam like a mad man without bothering anyone, this is the device to get. It is good for clean guitar playing style, and for those who want to rock out. Not for heavy metal or thrash nonsense, but very good for solid blues and classic rock. Get one!Jim in the Box

Nice pure sounding amp. Not harsh at all and quite honest and responsive.Tommy W.
I'm enjoying the Vox VX50 as a practise Amp, it's small, light and quiet but has a nice tone. I can play it anytime without upsetting the neighbours. The only improvement I could suggest is maybe to simplify the controls, bass, mid, treble and volume is enough, spend the extra on speaker quality and power. Overall good though.Jason S.

Reviews:
So I am writing this review after using it for a week straight and my conclusion is this: great sound for your buck. I've been reading some of these negative reviews and it's unbelievable that these reviews leave you thinking that this device should sound and act like a $500 amp but in all reality it is not. It's a practice amp used for those situations where noise level is an issue. It has great tones and great effects. Yes it's very limited, but you're not locked in to any one tone. Roll of on the gain and you have some Texas blues tones. As for the effects, they are good. Not the best, but good. If you're looking to jam out and practice your chops just get it. Don't listen to those negative reviews.
Seems as well built as the other options I've seen. Better tonal range than Vox and better than having to buy 2 or three devices. First impressions were not that good but as I've used it a bit more I can see me getting more used to it. I probably expected to much and was basing my hopes on the FLY amps. I think the effects are too limited to be worthwhile and would prefer Blackstar to focus on better amp tone. Still, I'm happy with it and for the type of device this is I know of nothing that sounds better. If I lost it I would probably look at the latest options but as it stands this is still the one I would buy. I think all of this type of device are over priced when you consider what a small amp costs but for portable practice in a small space it can't be beaten. This Blackstar amplug is in my opinion the best VFM option available.Paul S.
Amazing bit of kit for the price! Clean, over drive and distortion channels in a small box the amps to headphones perfectly! Can’t really comment on the effects as not really tried them out! But if you need a tiny portable amp that connects to your headphone for practice i would throughly recommend! Just noticed it even has aux in so I can listen to my Fender tutors without having to have 2 different sets of headphones on the go!!! Total novice managed to get it working in 3 minutes without reading the instructions!Mike
