Vox Ac2 Rhythmvox Bass Guitar Amp For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I've been looking for a way to practice without having the hassle of amplifiers. I've always practiced my electric bass unamplified. I considered an acoustic bass but ultimately decided on this product. It works great for practice. Some other reviews complained about noise. There is some noise, but not enough to keep me from practicing. I wouldn't record with it, but hey, it runs on 2 AAA batteries, what do you expect? For the money I'd expect it to be made of better plastic. The case has a somewhat lightweight and textured feel. It would also be nice if it was Bluetooth capable for aux/headphone connections.Pete

I have been very excited with this wee amplifier. It plugs directly into the bass' output jack. There are dial-controlled volume and tone controls which work perfectly and provide well-designed volume and tone sweeps The sound has 3 press-button activated gain levels, and a small colored light which changes color to show which is switched on. Two options, with orange or red colors in the single lamp, are quite low in volume (too low I think) but the third, when the green light is on is excellent, potent with a bit of growl – think Jack Casady, I say! There is an output jack for headphones – plenty of volume available – and an input jack to run, for example, an iPad into the Vox. So, you can privately play along with any music you have stored on an iPad! Powered by 2 AAA batteries, which come with it. Absolutely amazing device. A beginner can buy a bass, use this amp without even needing to purchase a guitar cable, and be ready to begin. The "headphone" output can be plugged into an amplifier's auxiliary socket (my small Ampeg amps are wired to "center" a stereo input signal) or a home sound system using a mini-plug- to- 1/4" stereo converter jack and perhaps a mini-plug-ended extension cable, sold everywhere in various lengths. So one could practice and have the combined sound of iPad and one's instrument sent to an amp. You can overwhelm the Vox and make it bark by too much input volume from your bass or by suddenly too-hard pick strikes, but if you moderate that a little it is fine. Superb device!unclefot

I'm enjoying the Vox VX50 as a practise Amp, it's small, light and quiet but has a nice tone. I can play it anytime without upsetting the neighbours. The only improvement I could suggest is maybe to simplify the controls, bass, mid, treble and volume is enough, spend the extra on speaker quality and power. Overall good though.Jason S.

The Ac-10not only looks the business but it has since real depth and warmth to its tone. Clean – it’s bright and has the chime you’d expect. Turn up the gain and your tone breaks up but still retains clarity. Having the gain wide open and master volume down means you can still have the saturated crunch but not disturb others . Perfect for home use but would not be out of place in a small pub gig. Takes pedals will and with a multi-fix like a GT 100, if you disable the amp sim and use like a conventional pedal board, you don’t lose any quality of the AC10’s natural tone. A masterful amp and it even smells nice with those tubes cooking.Mark R.

Ive been playing 35 years and this is probably the best all around practice amp ive ever heard. Pros- looks great, sounds very good, cleans thump and chime, distortion can wail. Its loud for its size. Seems built well. Have had no bad issues. Cons- clean isnt near as loud as w the gain cranked up. No reverb. In short if this amp was 50-100W and had reverb and an external speaker jack id never play another amp. Good job VOX.jjsrvfan

What a great sounding mini amp. I've had to use headphone mini amps for the last 15 years due to time constraints and location of practice area. I didn't want to use the precious practice time I had just to set up full size amp for only an hour or so and then return everything back to storage area. It was so much simpler and convenient just to plug a mini amp into my guitar, put on head set and play. Down side was always the quality of the mini amps I was using. I was getting them for around half of what a vox cost.. I always wanted a vox but they were expensive. After joining mf rewards club and making several purchases I bought my vox for about half price by applying my points to the purchase. I should have never waited. This vox is 10 times better than the cheaper brands. As soon as I opened the packaging and held it in my hand I could feel the quality. When I first plugged it in and started playing I got really upset. Not at the mini amp but at myself for waiting so long. I highly recommend buying this mini amp. Trust me. It's really worth it and you'll be glad you did.Horn

Cannot praise this device highly enough. It sounds great, and is ridiculously versatile for such a small device, comprising not only Gain, Tone and Volume controls, together with three levels each of effects options Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but also Clean, Crunch and Lead. Two AAA batteries are required (included), and give hours of usage. Just plug it into your guitar, attach headphones (decent pair of over-ear type are best, but don't need to be expensive) and, if wishing to practice over a track by your favourite band, simply attach an appropriate device such as a tablet or 'phone. If you require to free your amPlug2 sound from the confines of headphones, Vox also offer a mini, 2 watt, amPlug2 amp/speaker to which you attach your amPlug2 and play out loud (but not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. The wonderful Vox 50 watt amp/cab stack Mini Superbeetle Audio blue tooth speaker also doubles as a guitar amp, complete with amPlug2 compatibility, but at full volume, this would definitely annoy the next door neighbours, and possibly those further afield. The amPlug has given me new found freedom to play and practice without needing to wait for opportunities where it can be done without audibly intruding on the personal space of others in the household. I have subsequently invested in the equally good Classic Rock amPlug2 (and which, on balance, I prefer), together with both the aforementioned Vox Mini amPlug2 cab/speaker and Superbeetle Audio blue tooth amp/speaker stack. Basically, the freedom afforded by the amPlug2 headphone amp has reinvigorated my love of guitar playing, and I try to squeeze in some practice time on a daily basis. I even felt enthused enough to unnecessarily treat myself to a new guitar. This amPlug2 is real value for money, but it has inadvertently cost me a small fortune.johnclark1954

I am very happy with this amp. The Digital effects are better than I thought they would be. I wish the reverb settings could be turn up higher. The line in setting works perfect for an acoustic guitar with a build in pickup. Very light weight and very powerful but sounds good at low volume. :-).DonV

My AC-15 went on the fritz right before a festival gig. Bought this small, light amp in a pinch and it's outstanding! Great sound like the AC-15, but so easy to cart around and soooo much more powerful. I really like this little pup. The only downside is the wacky powerchord, but hopefully this will not prove a problem.Mark

Getting back into playing the guitar again (during lockdown) I needed a new amp (previously had only used entry level Marshalls) and did quite a bit of research on amps under £300.00. Came to the conclusion that a modelling amp might be the way to go and it came down to the Boss Katana, Line 6 Spider, Marshall Code and the Vox Cambridge 50. Didn't want anything too complicated and wanted knobs to twiddle not digitised controls – so that ruled out the Line 6 and the Marshall. Decided that the Katana was a great amp but with so many options and effects that I would probably get bogged down with too much choice and so I opted for the Vox. It sounds great, is not too heavy and the amp modelling presets are fun to experiment with – albeit that they are setup in very specific styles but are easily customised. Be aware that they are 'Presets' and as such, default back to the basic factory settings everytime. If you wish to recall a change to their sound/tone then you need to 'save' your changes to one of the 2 built-in user modes. You can expand these to 8 user profiles if you purchase (I have not done so as yet) and connect, an optional footswitch. This amp has more than enough for what I need and sounds great – love the AC30 modelling. 4 star rating given because there is no line out for gigs (most scenarios would see the amp 'mic'd up anyway) and some of the preset amp models are preset to a volume that is way higher than others which can catch you out. The instructions are pretty good but do require careful reading especially when trying to save custom configurations, but all in all and considering the price, this is a very good amp indeed and I am a convert to Vox.Reviewed by Kenny's Music custom

I'm an amplifier technician and have seen a good spread of guitar amplifiers. The Vox guitar amps that I've played have been consistently of good quality and the AC4TV is no exception. There is a lot to like about this amplifier. The controls are simple and self explanatory. The aesthetic look is fitting of a vintage lunch box amp. Most importantly however, the tones you can achieve with this amplifier are excellent. The clean tones have a crisp chime and high gain tones offer a sizzling high end break-up. As an added bonus, I find that moving between these tones is easily done from adjusting your guitar controls and attack rather than having to adjust the amp settings. I believe this would merit the AC4 as a touch sensitive amp. And what about the cons of this amplifier? My main concern with the AC4 is how hard the amplifier pushes the el84 power tube. Upon replacing the original failed el84, I found that the amplifier would drive my replacement el84s into a red glow on the screens. I feel this is asking the power tube to work harder than it should. These amplifiers do not have screen resistors which are fairly common on most tube amplifiers. From my experience the addition of this resistor helped both in a more natural break-up and added relief on the el84. My other minor complaint with this amplifier would probably be the speaker. The stock speaker is good, but there is room for improvement that most alnico speakers will likely be able to demonstrate. These amplifiers do conveniently offer and extension speaker out so you will be able to play this amp through other cabinets. To sum things up, I feel this amplifier competes well with its low wattage counterparts. The Vox has a good price and excellent tone. In my opinion the tone and control are a great deal better than the current low wattage Fender and Marshall amplifiers.nbrothergtr

For me personally this is a great size amp, easy to carry, load, etc. to gigs and has almost enough power behind it to work for any gig….unless I am playing at a big outdoor festival this amp works well for most of my gigs. I just played an outdoor event here in Vegas, 3 bands, and a large stage with 6 of us on it, and I had it up to about 8 on the level and with a little being added in my monitor up front I was good to go. Not a lot of options or features, such as reverb, but for me it works perfectly for what I expect out of such a small amp! Hope that helps!thomaskrojas

Great product works excellent some tricky soldering though. You will be soldering to back side of board which can be tough for a novice. Three settings you end up is position one is glassy clean, middle setting is original tone, and third setting a little more grit to the signal.tonymadden748

A lot of sound options and a lot of output and input options small footprint solid construction. Very easy to use and get sounds you like almost immediately. The unit I received had a problem with the Bluetooth function so I'm going to have to replace it but the quality of the sound and the construction top notch.jamespatrickhodgins

This little box is absolutely what I was looking for in a small practice amp. Amazingly loud and clear with excellent tone and sound from such a small package. I bought this thinking I'd probably just play through the headphones, but the speakers actually sound great at low to middle volume. You'll probably just leave the 'wide' setting on all the time like I do. Not sure how they do it, but it's a pretty cool trick how it expands the sound. The effects are fantastic as well. My favorite is the stereo chorus with a little overdrive, but the flanger and phazer are also awesome. Tons of preprogrammed options that let me sound any way I want even though it's such a small package. Bonus added with the Bluetooth ability. I can now play along with my favorite tunes because both the stream and my guitar can play through it simultaneously. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the look of the unit. My wife says it looks like a purse with the pretty colors and the big gold logo.jake1017

I really wanted to like this amp. Really I did! But unfortunately it fell way way short. It does NOT sound like 50w. In fact, Vox should be embarrassed to claim this is 50W. I typically play through a Fender Rumble 30(W) and the Vox was not half as loud on a side by side comparison (using P-bass). BIG strike 1. The Vox was well more than double the cost of my Fender Rumble 30. Strike 2. The Vox had no DI out nor an external speaker output. Strike three. If the Vox would have had a DI out or a Ext Speaker out, I probably would have kept it. The built in modeling were great, but just under powered. Instead the Vox enginers decided that a USB port was more important than a Ext Speaker out. Swing and a miss here. Again, I really wanted to like this amp, but it's destined to be just an overpriced practice amp. I guess I'll just stick with my Fender 30 W.ESharp Harp

Got this Amplug Blues today plugged it into my Strat and it sounds great! and I highly recommend it! Now is it perfect? the answer is the usual NO. I think it can be improved on as follows. 1. Put a little color on the dials… the plastic is all black and the plug can rotate to different orientations. Would really be nice to have the dials stand out better with different colors. 2. Change the AA batteries to USB rechargeable Lipo battery. No reason to burn batteries when you can recharge! 3. My main change request is to have Bluetooth Audio In because you plug in the Amplug and then connect headphones (great for practicing). But to add audio to jam to you need to connect another cable to the Aux jack. So for me it just get's to be too much. Since nearly everyone has a smart phone it would be great to use Bluetooth for the Audio In so you can wirelessly play jam track and stuff without needing the 2nd cable. But it does sound really good and I'm keeping it!Harpster58

I regret, that I was mistaken in my previous review. I had claimed that the sound was great – but, that some functions were missing, after about a month of use. That is not true. I re-read the slightly, confusing, manual. The unit itself is – slightly, confusing* – but, it does work the way it is supposed to. In fact, you have a serious selection of effects – at least, three levels, of each one of, three effects – far more than other units in this category of headphone amplifier. The sound is incredible – the thing's got, big, b*alls! – and that, in itself, is worth five stars. Amazing job!
*The effects are split by two different buttons at two different ends of the unit, which makes it a bit uncomfortable.Dale Alan Bryant

This is a really good bit of kit (apart from the way it looks, which isn't the best!). It makes a great Bluetooth speaker for streaming music – plenty loud, with good (faked) stereo separation, and the bass isn't bad for a small speaker. The guitar modelling sound good, and works well at low volume. And I can get 3 sound sources running simultaneously, which is useful : 1. A guitar plugged into the Input 2. A keyboard plugged into the Aux In 3. Music streamed over Bluetooth So, the sound is good, the connectivity is good, the downside is the software: 1. Tone Room works well, once you've got it to work at all. I had to try several different drivers from the VOX web site before I finally got Tone Room to connect from my laptop over Bluetooth. I eventually gave up trying to get Tone Room to connect from my Android phone. 2. The bundled JamVOX III software is incredibly ancient (last updated in 2013!!!), and doesn't manage to chop out the guitar solo's particularly well on the songs I tried it with. 3. There's not much of a community out there uploading tones and patches etc. Finally, I could have paid less elsewhere, but I really appreciate The Captain's video reviews, so I decided to pay an extra £10 to get it from Andertons.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Overall: I bought this after getting tired of waiting for my Positive Grid Spark to ship. I watched some videos and pulled the trigger. zZounds had the amp at my door in 24 hours. Wow! I immediately dialed up what I expected to be my primary sound — the "Brit 1959" amp. Absolutely horrible. The sound was weak and uninspiring. Even with the pre, post, and eq's dimed, the amp was nowhere near an early era Malcolm Young tone. (The target.) The JCM 800 and the Orange Rockerverb sims aren't bad–but those amps have completely different drive characteristics. At this point, I had not yet written-off the Adio completely. I streamed my iTunes through the Adio via Bluetooth, and this was the final nail-in-the-coffin. The plastic cabinet has a very specific resonant frequency that is only augmented by engaging the "Wide" mode. The songs I have known my whole life sounded completely different when played through the Adio. Even streaming "Avengers Endgame" through the Adio unpleasantly colored the audio. And again, engaging the "Wide" mode only degraded the audio further. I am returning the unit to purchase a Yamaha THR10II–which is what I should have done in the first place. (Damn your review, Lee Anderton!)They made me fill-in "manufacturer support." I have had no experience with Vox customer support.Brian

OK, I do jokingly refer to this as the "Vox Tone Purse" because it's gotten such flack over its looks. In person I think it looks fine, and I don't really care that much. Here's the deal – I generally have to put my stuff away when I'm not playing, I live in a small place. Sometimes I don't feel like getting out the pedalboard and bringing an amp into the living room, etc. In those cases I grab the Adio and sit it on the ground next to me. This thing sounds plenty good for what I use it for. Generally practicing or noodling while watching sports. I like clean-to-slightly crunch tones with reverb. I don't use the other effects much, and I've played around with the Tonelab app a bit, but not much. I just dial in a tone and play. The tones I get are satisfying and good enough – I like the tones out of my amps better, but for a small practice amp I'm fine with it. About the 50 watts – there is plenty of volume but this thing will not keep up with your average 50 watt, 12 inch speaker combo amp. It's not that kind of thing. The 50 watts is likely for clean headroom, and it's probably 25 watts per speaker. You have to use the app to control effect parameters beyond speed or depth – not a big issue. You get plenty of variety in the available amp models – I use all of them up to the Plexi and don't really touch any of the high gain stuff. Not my thing. To my ear it sounds good for clean to mildly dirty tones and has plenty of EQ and gain options which easily cater tones to single coil or humbucking pickups. Lots to like. I give it 4 stars just because nothing is perfect, but I'm very happy with this amp and use it all the time.AL

Overall: I bought a VT40X used this summer and I've been floored. I have Mesa Boogie and Frenzel tube amps so I can compare sounds anytime and don't have to play solid state if I don't want to. When it's evening or late night and I want to be nice to the neighbors this thing comes out and I don't have to feel deprived at all. The Dumble (Boutique OD) in particular gives beautiful rounded bell tones at all volume levels and reacts naturally to increased gain. British 800 sounds like what its intended to mimic. I expected to hate the speaker but it seems fine. The software is needed so that you can tweak the amp to get exactly what you want. It's a bit of a pain but worth it. The user interface on the amp is pretty terrible but once you're set up you won't need to change it very often. Overall this is a gem of a small amp that could stand up to small gigs with no problem as long as you can get it up off the floor on a chair or stand. I'd buy another one of these anytime, and highly recommend it for beginners who need to find their sound and decide what hardware will be best for them. Buy one of these, figure it out and then go spend on pro gear later. You'll keep the VT40X, it's a great bedroom or livingroom amp.Rick

I have played the acoustic guitar for years and played in pubs and all sorts. I’ve never had an amp at home so have been looking at the right one for ages. You don’t need effects peddles to get started with this one – save your money it has many settings built in with the Tone Room app where you can save the effects not only within the Amp but within the app too. I have a Telecaster and I tried it on a few amps. Yes the Marshall CODE is excellent too so you won’t go either with either in what you finally choose, but this is just so much fun. The Valves – oh my, so when I was at school there was a dusty valve amp that I played on and I LOVED it turns out it was a VOX so obvs going back to what I played on at school. A lovely lovely piece of kit and amazing value for money. You can play it really loud and I bet great for a small gig or practicing, playing with others. Did lots of research. Went for this after a Fender Mustang I bought crashed twice the day I got it. First off this thing is loud if needed. Sound good at low volume too. A little tricky to program online but after a little practice it gets easy. 8 presets is plenty too. Only drawbacks are: no line out (just mic it), not Bluetooth capable for streaming in your tunes and programming the channels, and to connect to a laptop it needs a mini usb which is not too common these days. But overall very satisfied with this purchase. Oh and not made in China too is a plus.Steve

Having a need for something portable for busking purposes I required a light battery powered amp that was not lacking in tone and features! Having already purchased the excellent Vox AV30 I took a look at what Vox catered for in this market and found the Vox mini 5 amp. Priced competitively it offers a punchy tone in a compact package offering various drive sounds and effects to match. What I wasn't expecting was the volume from such a compact amp easily loud enough for busking. With a built in compressor and delay I had the Ideal tone I wanted with further drive sounds If required. The pre-amp section has 10 selectable tones from ultra clean Fender tones through Vox tones followed my Marshall drive and into heavy metal area. All are useful and in use there seems to be a useful gate effect which is appreciated. The efficient 5 watt rms power amp section offers selectable wattage outputs 0.1w , 1.5w and 5w allowing various levels of driven tone through the 6.5" speaker. This works well in practice. Effects wise, the unit has the usual range one has come to expect featuring 2 effects channels with an one effect from each selectable at the same time. Channel 1; compression,chorus, flanging & tremelo. Channel 2 reverb and delay & with assignable TAP tempo. As an added bonus the Vox mini 5 houses a simple drum machine; great for busking along with, covering the usual 8 beat patterns through pop to Jazz & latin. There are 11 patterns in total each with 3 variations, adjustable tempo and volume. There is a basic guitar tuning fork effect that detects the string "E" ; not as good as a dedicated tuner but still appreciated as a small bonus. There are the usual headphone and mp3 inputs for further versatility. Power wise the amp runs on 6AA batteries accessed from a velcro back panel or the supplied mains adapter when indoors. The amp is complete with a small carrying strap but a useful thing would be to use a guitar strap making the unit hands free when out and about. Another useful feature is a dedicated mic input with gain and effects send which makes the unit a handy low powered PA system; perfect for a busker minimising gear to carry! It is obvious that Vox have given a lot of thought into designing this amp packing it with very useful features that really are more than just gimics making this a leading contender in the small portable amp market!Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I need a battery powered amp to play guitar in some street performances )i.e. no mains power) and originally thought I'd get one of the small Boss amps. However when I heard it live I didn't think that much of… but this little Vox really fits the bill. I already had a Vox pathfinder (bought back in 1999!) so perhaps my ears are tuned to the Vox sound but I really like this amp. The 5 watts is certainly loud enough for the rehearsals at this stage (actually I'm using it on the 1.5W setting) – we'll see if it's loud enough for the performances outside. It's not a full on guitar led performance so I reckon it'll be fine. So for most of the time this little amp sits on my desk next to the computer so I can play and write without having to lug other amps about (writing (for fun!) on electric guitars is quite different to writing on acoustic guitars). I've also plugged a Shure SM57 into the mic input and used my classical guitar – sounds great, although the eq controls are only for the guitar input channel. Also there's no phantom power on the mic channel so you'd need a seperate battery power supply. all up, I'm very pleased with this amp,,, I haven't used the drum settings on the amp yet, but who knows what the future holds 🙂Matthew L.

Small practice amp with a wide range of effects. Only 5 watts, but for a beginner, that's probably enough. It does hum quite a bit, but then it's paired with a guitar with retro, 60's single coil pickups, so I guess that's no real surprise. When modelling a clean-tone amp, the results are pretty clean, when modelling something a bit more interesting, it gives some unusual effects. I don't have a lot of experience to bench-mark it against, but it sounds good for the money and is easy to use. The interactions of some of the effects and the modelling capabilities, gives results which can seem a little unconvincing at times, and sometimes a very small adjustment to one of the controls can give a big change to the sound. It will run on batteries, although I haven't tried it. It claims about 12 hours if used at maximum power. I'm not quite fast enough in my playing yet to keep up with any of the rhythm settings! Each of the 10 rhythm effects has 9 variations, and each of these has an in-built style variability, so it doesn't sound too unrealistic and repetitive. Overall, I'm very happy with it, and am enjoying fiddling with the settings to see what kind of sound comes out. I'm running this through a 1×12 Bugera cab (which to my ear is a pretty neutral speaker, but sounds great). Unless your band plays way too loud this amp should give you enough volume for gigging (even at 25 watts through an 8 ohm speaker). Takes pedals well – all of my drive pedals sound great. The MV50 reacts like my tube amps with a boost pedal in front (Fulltone & Xotic). I really like the attenuator, and at home I play at 1/100 power with the volume at about noon. While this amp has a lot of clean headroom you will start to get some hair when you push it, but in a good way. It's the kind of sound where you can play clean by picking lightly but if you hit it hard you'll hear that you're on the edge of breakup. Not surprising for a Vox, this is not a mid-scooped Fender clean. Mids are present, but not pushed. It is a warm clean, not sterile or spikey at all to my ear. I've been playing this primarily with a Boss Fender reverb pedal and the tone really is glorious. I don't feel like I'm missing anything from my tube amps. Not a thing. I wish I'd had this thing years ago when I was throwing my back out moving 60lb tube amps to and from gigs. What I don't like. The unit feels very solid, seems like a quality piece of gear, but the mini chicken head knobs on the front feel cheap (a minor complaint). Mainly I don't like how much they have crammed on the back panel. You've got tiny switches for power, flat/deep, eco (shuts it off after 15 min. of non-use) and the attenuator, as well as headphone/line out & speaker out. Once you get a speaker cable plugged in it feels very cramped. I'd much rather that the power switch was on the front. Lastly, I wish I could get 50 watts @ 8 ohms, just for the headroom. This is giggable for me at 25 watts into 8 ohms & still gives you good headroom, but YMMV. I primarily use single coils. With hot humbuckers I don't know if you'd run out of clean headroom or not. I don't own any 4 ohm cabs, and after thinking about jumping through hoops to get all 50w available to me, I decided it wasn't worth it. This amp sounds really good, but at the very least for clean headroom, anyone looking for a pedal platform usually wants to control where the edge of breakup is, or have it totally clean. Beyond that, there's just too much crammed onto the (very small) back of the amp. Tiny switches plus the speaker out jack just mean it's hard to find the on/off switch, etc. Put the power switch on the front so I don't have to hunt for it. After having the MV50 a while I decided to try a DV Mark Micro 50 – and I like it better than the Vox. It's more versatile with 3 band EQ, and I have a full 50w to play with. Overall I prefer the DV Mark – I just feel it suits my clean & light OD tones better than the Vox. But if I had to gig with the Vox I'd be OK with it. Having said that, several months ago I came across a great deal on a Blues Cube Hot EL84 (more Vox-ish tone than the standard) and frankly, it blows the other two away. It's a combo, of course. So I'm keeping the DV Mark as a backup. The Vox has gone. Anyone looking to downsize should give one of these a listen. There is good to great tone in there, depending on your needs. Again – the 4 ohm load to get 50w is a bummer. But not everyone needs that much power. What a great sounding mini amp. I've had to use headphone mini amps for the last 15 years due to time constraints and location of practice area. I didn't want to use the precious practice time I had just to set up full size amp for only an hour or so and then return everything back to storage area. It was so much simpler and convenient just to plug a mini amp into my guitar, put on head set and play. Down side was always the quality of the mini amps I was using. I was getting them for around half of what a vox cost.. I always wanted a vox but they were expensive. After joining mf rewards club and making several purchases I bought my vox for about half price by applying my points to the purchase. I should have never waited. This vox is 10 times better than the cheaper brands. As soon as I opened the packaging and held it in my hand I could feel the quality. When I first plugged it in and started playing I got really upset. Not at the mini amp but at myself for waiting so long. I highly recommend buying this mini amp. Trust me. It's really worth it and you'll be glad you did.Horn

Cannot praise this device highly enough. It sounds great, and is ridiculously versatile for such a small device, comprising not only Gain, Tone and Volume controls, together with three levels each of effects options Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but also Clean, Crunch and Lead. Two AAA batteries are required (included), and give hours of usage. Just plug it into your guitar, attach headphones (decent pair of over-ear type are best, but don't need to be expensive) and, if wishing to practice over a track by your favourite band, simply attach an appropriate device such as a tablet or 'phone. If you require to free your amPlug2 sound from the confines of headphones, Vox also offer a mini, 2 watt, amPlug2 amp/speaker to which you attach your amPlug2 and play out loud (but not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. The wonderful Vox 50 watt amp/cab stack Mini Superbeetle Audio blue tooth speaker also doubles as a guitar amp, complete with amPlug2 compatibility, but at full volume, this would definitely annoy the next door neighbours, and possibly those further afield. The amPlug has given me new found freedom to play and practice without needing to wait for opportunities where it can be done without audibly intruding on the personal space of others in the household. I have subsequently invested in the equally good Classic Rock amPlug2 (and which, on balance, I prefer), together with both the aforementioned Vox Mini amPlug2 cab/speaker and Superbeetle Audio blue tooth amp/speaker stack. Basically, the freedom afforded by the amPlug2 headphone amp has reinvigorated my love of guitar playing, and I try to squeeze in some practice time on a daily basis. I even felt enthused enough to unnecessarily treat myself to a new guitar. This amPlug2 is real value for money, but it has inadvertently cost me a small fortune.johnclark1954

I bought one, a display model but new, and it worked great for a few weeks. Then after moving it temporarily it couldn't hit full volume and sound cut out. I exchanged for a brand new, in-box model and it had the same problem. Returned. Not going for a third attempt.Mike

This thing is not only loud but the high and low ends sound so damn good. Especially if your signal is "all analog". No doubt the amp is incredible, the tubes are huge! Speaker is really good. I gotta say tho it is missing the warmth that something like a deluxe reverb, but hey its nit-picking at this level. Last amp you will ever need if you're a Vox fan. If your a Fender fan, buy the Deluxe Reverb Or HotRod Deville. Of course AMS was on time, on the spot, and helpful as always. Thanks AMS!Nick (Phan)

hear this amp on youtube and figured i would give it a shop. i had no always liked vox amps but didn't like the weight of the ac30 or the thin sound of the ac15. as i got better and better at playing the guitar and also playing in the band i had gone through almost every amp out there. i was always disappointed with each and everyone. lately i bought and performed with the supro dual tone and fell in love with it. great cleans and pretty good distortion! i was surfing through youtube and came across the ac30 s1 and thought that is interesting, one speaker and lighter weight. what took vox so long to come up with that idea. so i bought it and couldn't wait to get it home and try it. i can honestly say that i have never been been blown away initially by any amp i have bought. well, that all changed today! what an amp! i was blown away at the clean tone with beautiful bottom end and when i turned the gain knob up, holy cow, pure distortion heaven! so easy to dial in any tone on the fly! i even tried some pedals in from of it and again it sounded great. but, honestly i think it sounds best when it stands alone! maybe when you use accent pedals, like delay or chorus, pedals like that it shines also. overall i can't praise it enough! buy on and you'll see!JR

I found this amp to be a welcomed addition to the Vox line up. As expected, I really liked the 1×12 format for its reduction in weight. The simplicity of the controls also was a welcomed featured. The only thing I didn't care for was the speaker choice. Having it for several months, I thought that after breaking it in it might improve, but I just don't feel this particular speaker is a good choice for this amp. With that said though, you could easily swap it out for something you prefer. I'd still recommend the amp!Jason B.
