Vintage Fender Guitar Strap For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I expected more from a name like Fender. What I got was a very thin lightweight material made into a guitar strap. I got it using "points" so it was essentially free, or I'd be more disappointed. Using it with a Fender acoustic bass which is light weight anyway, so it'll work for now. Likely be buying more Dunlop straps in the future.Mohawker

I've used a lot of guitar straps over the years. Frequently the (nylon?) backing on the strap starts to fray and tear away in small black pieces. I hate that. So I purchased this strap because it has no backing. At first I was a bit concerned that I would not like the feel but, it turns out that this strap is very comfortable. The leather mounting ends and the associated stitching of this area looks durable. It even feels a bit lighter than other straps that have the backing material. Only time will tell if it lasts longer than my other typical straps but, so far I have good feeling that it will.stratmanforever

After decades of cheap-o straps that cut my neck, I thought I'd break down and get a cool-looking retro tweed. It's much more comfortable on my neck than I anticipated. Maybe it's just all those years wearing used chain-saw blades, but this is now my favorite strap, and I'm likely to get a couple more. I didn't realize straps could actually be comfortable. Only problem was getting the ends over the strap-buttons. I suppose they will get more flexible with use, but it was quite a challenge getting them on the first time.Prof. Longhair

This strap has the look of the "good'old days"! The only bummer is that you can really only use it when performing. If you use it for consistant and long practice you will notice that your shoulder will begin to ache due to no padding. But for the performance look it is a great strap that makes you look good and unique.ISIDRO

I ordered one of these when my odd-shaped guitar couldn't be fitted with a "normal" strap end. The strap button is placed in a spot where I have only a quarter-inch of wiggle room. Since the odd shape also prevents resting it on my lap, I need a strap any time I play it. This vintage style Fender strap does the job perfectly. The only problem is that I'm not only shorter than the guys that usually use them, but I like my instrument set high. Like another of these reviewers, I had to punch holes and cut off the excess. The design lends itself well to such savage manipulations. I had to toss over 8 inches of premium leather into the trash, but it lookes like it came this way!I agree that the pad is REALLY hard and stiff, so that's the only thing Fender could have done differently. A cushion of lambs wool, or whatever they cushion things with these days, would have made it perfect. Other than that, great job Fender!LittleOldLady

i just got this black leather "deluxe vintage" Fender strap from MF a couple weeks ago (thanks again for the quick shipping guys!) and I gotta say, I like it. I needed a replacement for a (non-adjustable) Levy's strap of similar type which was just a couple inches too short. I'm about 6'1" and while I don't like my guitar all the way down to my knees, having the bridge in front of my hip usually feels right. The Levy's strap was starting to cause some cramping from having my hands at a weird angle, so I strapped it to my Talman acoustic (which is more comfortable higher up) and adjusted this new Fender strap's buckle out to its last hole. Perfect fit! I use this on an Ibanez XPT700XH, which despite being pointy has its strap buttons in standard electric-guitar locations. With the Fender strap it barely sits right where I want it (with the bridge in front of my hip), but I note that this strap isn't long enough to hang bigger-bodied instruments like Explorer- or V-shaped guitars this low; I have both and checked to see. Basses are likely to have the same issue. Just a reminder to account for how far apart the strap buttons are on your guitar, as well as your height and your preferred playing position, when you're looking for a leather strap; they'll stretch a couple inches if they're not broken in at the factory, but not too much. This one is perfect for this guitar, and should provide a similar ride for the "big 3" electric body shapes on people around 6' tall, but for a super-low ride with larger-bodied instruments I'd need something longer. I saw some other reviews mentioning the shoulder-pad, and I do think it's worth a comment since I noticed it too. The strap is not broken in at the factory, so the side of the shoulder-pad which contacts the shoulder was still rather stiff, scratchy and rough when it got here. The "padding" (if there's any in there, I don't see any) leaves a bit to be desired, but I'm probably feeling a little spoiled by the Levy's super-deluxe, foam-packed garment-leather shoulder-pad – perhaps I'll switch them until the Fender pad breaks in. Or maybe I'll just remember that leather needs to break in, recognize that this strap was a lot less costly than the Levy's, and tough it out like a proper metalhead until it softens up. I've also seen mention of the buckle, and being a little paranoid I gave it a few good hard yanks to see if breakage was likely to be an issue. I feel better about it now; mine has already withstood more abuse than it is ever likely to face on the road, in the studio, or anywhere else. I didn't hit it with a hammer, but then I don't see why it would ever take such a blow in the wild. If it did, AND if it broke, I'd probably still spend another $25 to replace it; I'm definitely not concerned that it's going to randomly just break loose and drop my guitar. So, it looks good without being tacky, holds up my guitar where I like it, and displays nothing to suggest that the product isn't worth the price. Good-quality leather, and once the shoulder-pad breaks in I expect it'll feel even better. Yes sir, I like it. I like it a lot. how many features should a strap have? really though, there is a limit to the adjustability range if you don't want to cut into it. the shoulder pad's "soft" side is kinda raw, but for new leather that's not unusual. just try to find this type, grade, length and thickness of all-leather strap for less! no really, try, and if you find one, let me know and i'll buy that one next time!Pointy-Guitar-Mogul

This strap is fantastic. I can barely feel the guitar on my shoulder at all. On heavier guitars or basses or if you sling it really low it can feel a bit bouncy so I'm not sure if I'd put one on every one of my guitars but on my Fender Lead II it's absolutely dreamy.AB

So I go to put the strap on the telecaster. The leather ends have the slot/holes cut out. Maybe this was a little off but it took forever to get the strap over the buttons. I actually unscrewed the bottom button, put it through the strap and screwed it back in. No kidding, and all the time trying not to damage the guitar or finish. Guess it won't be falling off any time soon. So yeah it works great as a strap but just try to get it on an off the guitar!eagle_watch

This is a good quality guitar strap that is well made and feels nice on the shoulder. It's also nice to the touch. Be aware that when it arrives it is curled up and the fringe is all kinked. Give it a good shake and hang it up to acclimatise then comb the fringe with your fingers and it will unkink.Susan S.

Its just great. The thing is that you got to stretch the fringe a little bit to have it be straight. Its a chore but that is just fine. You hold the base then pull the fringe. Gently. You might have to do some twice.Dutch

These are the exact same patterns and material Fender used to make these straps back in the 70's – I had one for my Fender Coronado XII guitar. Only difference was the original 70's straps had blue or brown tinted alligator leather ends with one end having a gold belt buckle adjustment type leather strap end. Cognac color with my sunburst modern player tele looks great. Really nice workmanship. A couple of practical matters though. First, the button holes are too small, so you have to enlarge them yourself. And second, the buckle in the middle of the strap means you have to remove the strap every time you put it in the case, or it'll mar your guitar's finish. That of course will loosen the button holes over time and make the strap less reliable.Joe

I use these straps on my Hofner Basses and my Gretsch Guitars. The closest I have found to my old straps from the 1960's. They are great.Michael

I use it on my Slim-Line Gretsch, I don't like other straps that dig into my neck. The spaghetti design is contoured around the neck area and is padded where it rests on your shoulder. I've used this design on my strat for years. The Gretsch strap has the same design except the padding has five football shapped lumps spaced out in the centerline of the padding. It does the job with my Slim Line but I would'nt use it on a strat because they are much heavier and needs a full lenght of padding.edgar

I was expecting a lot more from this, being a "name brand" and all, but I am seriously disappointed with the quality of the materials and the workmanship is, well, I can't even call it workmanship; some factory worker somewhere threw it together and branded it with the famous name. I would have returned it if I didn't need it real bad for a summer concert series. Very overpriced for what it is. Don't waste your bucks on this.ramordet

I like the strap. Its comfortable. The leather is soft and supple making it easy to attach to the guitar. I would expect this strapped to cost more than it did. A good value. I recommendjeba-1641

Seriously, this is a beautiful guitar strap. I've fitted it with strap locks and put it on my Olympic White American Pro and it's just the perfect finishing touch. It's really soft and supple right from new and looks as good as it feels. It's WELL worth the price and although it might look like a bit of a gamble, trust me it's one that pays off. I've been stoked all day after getting this and putting it on my guitar. I've attached a photo. For those that are interested, the black plastics kit was 18, the scratchplate 27 and the Seymour Duncan Classic Stack Humbuckers were 80 each. They still sound exactly like a Strat should, maybe with little more guts but they don't lose any of the essential sound of the Strat. They are however completely silent in positions 1, 3 and 5 and well worth the money in terms of build and sound quality and if 60 cycle hum is something you want to avoid they are a great solution. I think it all looks great together as a combo and the strap just finishes it all off perfectly. Thank you, I'm really happy my No.1 Guitar looks and feels so good now.j-pmet-b0eu9xcro

This product is sturdy, it looks great and it feels secure which you really need when playing live. Nobody wants to be thinking 'I hope this doesn't fall off' in the back of their head whilst they're trying to work.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

You've seen pics and footage of artists like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, etc., wearing these types of straps in the 60s-70s; the designs and look of these straps create a subtle way for contemporary artists and performers to tip their hat to that pioneering era of incredible rock performers and songwriters.Randy

If you have a guitar where rigid plastic will fit on your guitar this strap will be fine. If you have a Bixby or need soft leather this won't work. Basic Stratocaster and Telecaster models are fine but you are dealing with a flat rigid plastic locking mechanism.Joel

A guitar strap with quick release end points that can be quickly detached from the guitar is a cool idea so that the guitar can be stowed in its case with the strap removed. However this strap has basically cheap plastic end points that I would not trust to hold the guitar securely. A strap that can't be trusted to support the guitar is useless.Bryan
