Two Channel Guitar Amp For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

If you're expecting an amazing Marshall sound, you might want to invest in some of the bigger amps Marshall has to offer. If you think you can get a concert level sound out of this little guy, you will not be the happiest person. However, that level of "high" expectation would not be very reasonable or even realistic for such a little amp. This is a very cute, small amp that will help you plug your guitar so you can practice quietly in any room in your house without annoying your wife. It will distort if you crank the volume all the way out, and if you're used to the full sound of a bigger Marshall (like I do) it might make you feel like you're hearing your guitar over an old telephone (just my opinion). However, if you calibrate your instrument volume & tone you can find a happy medium. With that said, for the price it is a very nice solution to practice and if the sound seems too weak for you, you have the choice of putting headphones. I personally use it just for practice on the fly, it serves it purpose, but then again I was not expecting the best sound output. So I am happy with the purchase.BeeZee

It's basically a toy amp. I can see it being used as a portable amp for non-serious performance. Personally, I like it for a quick jam and for (relatively) quiet practice in my apartment setting. Won't disturb my neighbors but it does get noticeable at the highest volume. That and the overdrive knob are the two main controls. By default it just does a clean sound but overdrive lets you toggle in some gain for that distortion. It has a good look that definitely models after its bigger brothers.Rick

I don't know what some of you guys expect from this thing, but be realistic: it's an inexpensive 5 inch tall, 1 watt amp. It's not designed for anything but sitting in a chair and entertaining yourself or a couple of people. Within that context, I enjoy this thing and sometimes get it off the shelf and play around with it for awhile. Also, when I owed somebody a 1 minute long riff for his podcast and my main amp was getting some regular tech service, I plugged my American Standard Strat into this thing, mic'd the amp, used the OD channel with the volume and tone both on 10, played the part, then added tons of bass, reverb, and chorus to it in post, and it sounded great and nobody ever knew that I recorded the part using a 5 inch tall amp. It is what it is as long as you don't expect the world.Steve

An amazing 2 channel or dual amp zero watt amplifier pedal. Used it at a rehearsal and could dial in great tones very quickly – from Marshal type distortion to clean reverby Fendery tones. Great through headphones for practice and DI'd into PA for live use. Amazing for recording, the pedal sounds the way your amp would before adding the mic. So easy to dial in any sound, I added a nobble Od1 into the chain and it blew my mind. Just picked one of these and it's been a joy to play. Pretty easy to use with quite a few options. Was able to dial in some tones that sound like my $800-1k tube amps. Honestly this amp is the best bang for your buck amp available imo. I really love the Waza Craft Greenback speaker. I love the .5, 50,100 watt options. Haven't even explored the software yet but I'm confident enough in this amp to give it a 5 star already. This of course is keeping in mind the fact it's essentially a budget amp price. Sound: Right out of the box? I didn’t even adjust EQs. Set volume and gain, and started playing. Took 0 effort to get 98% of the way to my live tone that is an Orange Rockerverb 100W MK2 and Marshall 212 with V30s. Features: I love the Tone Studio. I did have to pull a star from Ease Of Use because it may be confusing if you’re not good with computers. Ease of Use: If you can’t get a good sound out of this amp, return it, sell your guitars, and find a new hobby. That’s how easy getting a good sound out of this is. Quality: Seems pretty decent. I wouldn’t call it robust, but it doesn’t FEEL as cheap as the price would suggest. Value: 100% worth the price. I’d have paid $100 more for it if I’d have known how good it would sound. Manufacturer Support: I’ve dealt with Roland/Boss in the past, and they’ve always been wonderful. The Wow Factor: Looks good, sounds good, price is good. A perfect practice amp, that could stand in for a small venue in a pinch. Naturally my live rig is a bit much for my apartment, but this is just what the doctor ordered. Overall: Solid state amps have come a long way. A REALLY long way. I’ll be honest, being a tube snob, I had very low expectations. I could have set the bar in the same area as I would a $2,000 and it still would have hopped it effortlessly.Kenny

Based on a friend's recommendation, I purchased a new Boss Katana 100 MK 2 in June 2021. The first thing that impressed me was it's power…it seemed to be a real 100 watts in a portable and lightweight package. I was able to dial in some useful tube-like tones right from the start with the clean channel. The Katana warmed up quickly to single coil or hum bucking pickups. The tone "variations" are also very useful for dialing in the right sounds to your liking. The delay adds the right amount of sparkle to your overall sound…very cool! Unfortunately, I was not able to get much help from the Boss Tone Studio when I downloaded it to the amp. (The response was: "Amp not connected"). Another disappointment is no Boss Tone Studio for iOS users…really guys? The required Boss foot switch is another issue…look online to see pedal "hacks" that use standard one-button or two-button formats. (Save a few bucks with a regular pedal). All in all: I'm very pleased with the amp. The line-in is a great feature to use with backing tracks along with the headphone jack for late night practicing. The basic amp tones has a realistic tube texture that reminds me of Marshall, Fender or Vox models.Scotty, M.

I have had the 50 watt for several months which is a great amp, but decided I wanted more foot switching options provided by the GA-FC controller. I figured if I was to buy the 100 watt it might as well be a 2X12. The 100 2X12 sounds awesome. And it is really loud to play at home even on the .5 watt setting. I'm tired of messing with tube amps and effect pedals so the Boss Katana series is just what I need. I have not dived in to the software and deep settings on either amp yet. These are apparently had to get. SAM Ash had it on backorder from Boss. The web and phone support at SAM Ash is great. Chris from phone support helped me complete the order and was super knowledgeable and helpful throughout. He even called me back a couple of times to update status and follow up once it was delivered. Oh… And the 2X12 is way heavier and bigger than the 1X12.Pupster

Overall: I bought this amp from zZounds 10 months ago. Delivery was fast 2 days. The box it came in was inbad shape however not a scratch on the amp. It is like the fender I had decades ago. The sound is the same and it is the real deal.powerful musicial.it is the fender sounds that everyone is trying to copy. I had many fender amps over the years this one is the alpha dog of them all. The twin side chimney or dail up the kids for classic rock. The bassman side breaks up eaiser. Or use both sides together for enormous wall of sound. Me add a 4×12 and I'm rocking. ABY box works really well for this. I love it My tech 21 Plexii pedal turns it into a68 Plexi amp. I did hear some hiss and buzz when using reverb. Very low amp at 3 you won't hear it. Took it to diversify audio in Tampa. They had it fixed in 3 days. They replaced a broken rca jack.Best part the repair was free.. fender paid for it all under thier 5 year warranty this amp has a beautiful sound with my americian strat it is rocking down the highway all the way to China Grove then over to Lagrange. Turn on a chours use the amps reverb and tremolo many beautiful love songs. Built solid looks great. zZounds pay as you play is the best. This is one amp I will keep forever. This amp is better than my old silver face but still has that original sound and more. As good sound quality as a $2000 amp thanks fender best amp in a long time. zZounds is just awesome..Harold

Overall: This is a great amp, sorry for not having enough adjectives to describe this amp. I bought it thinking I only needed a powerful and quality amp and got this beast. All around awesome tone and quality. I set it up without my church band knowing to see if they would notice a difference and immediately they knew as we started, this was not my solid state Line Six which had many years of service. I play mostly quartet, modern gospel, christian and some R&B, it handles all of that like a champ. Worked well with my American Fender Strat and my Boos Me80. If there were CONS:1 no I phones or tablets on top or close. (interference)2 Make sure the venue you're playing in is grounded. I not properly grounded you will here your local radio station playing through it and that's without the guitar plugged in. 3 Maybe invest in a plug in "wall filter" for the tube hiss. It has 6 tubes and they are noisy but not noticeable with a filter and DI box ground lift thingy. 4 My church has strobe studio and loud lights if any one knows about this you understand why I wrote about the lights and interference noise. These are the problems with a lot of tube amps but I would rather have these problems than another solid state digital blah blah blah.I really like this amp its GREAT!Robert

I recently decided to get back into playing live music. I bought this amp first before I had any guitars. Then I bought Fender Strat, loved the sound. Such an upgrade from my crappy crate amp that my dad bought me from the pawn shop to go with the Harmony Strat to match! This combo was no good, sounded like a toy! I’m just getting back into playing guitar it’s been 30 years since I’ve played on a regular basis. This amp has changed my life! All I can do now is play and mess with the sound. I’ve gotten In to pedals and effects as well, so many options. This amp does it all and for a combo I am really impressed! Great sounding clean tones for playing at home, which is why i bought it – my beloved Mustang 1.1 started having issues and I MUST have a great clean tone to relax. Wanted a tube amp and did my research. Decided on the Blackstar. I must say I'm extremely happy with it. The reverb is KILLER to my ear and does a great job at adding shimmer without destroying the tone. No external effects are needed to get a gorgeous clean tone – I use my Zoom G3Xn into the front end to get univibe and compression. The effects loop is very functional. The amp can be very bass heavy, depending on your instrument, but if you run a 10 band EQ (go with MXR) in the loop you amp can achieve any tonal result you want. My best sound comes with everything at 12, with some of the bass rolled off with the MXR EQ – but its just a matter of taste i guess. This amp moves a lot of air when you use the drive channel, and if your not pleased with the amps distortion it does respond really well to distortion pedals. I'm mostly in the clean blues zone but must brag on the amps darker side: it can get very loud and stay rich. I haven't tried any of the direct recording features. The 2 selectable characters of clean that the amp offers thrill me and ,again, the reverb is classy and a bit different from other amps ( I read that is a room reverb). Highly recommended.Tim H.

This amp out of the box sounds fantastic. Crystal clear clean tones and a snarly gain channel that lets you choose between a more American gain tone and a British gain tone. I would say ‘cater for everyone’. But, I received my first amp and within an hour of playing I’d noticed a loud ‘POP’ when changing channels. This pop occurred if a note was being played at the same time as the channel change. (Footswitch and Amp buttons) So, of course I returned the Amp to PMT. they arranged DPD next working day collection for me, completely hassle free. I awaited my next amp, as a direct replacement. A few days later the next Blackstar HT-5R mkii arrived, box fresh like the last. I plugged the amp in, let the tubes warm and away I went. Within minutes of found a great tone again, but the loud ‘POP’ I heard from the first unit was there again on this amp. I tried 4 sockets in the house in case there was any kind of interference/static, but to no avail. Absolutely gutted, I called PMT again. The amp was returned for the second time. Apparently this hasn’t happened to anyone else, I may just be unlucky or the amp may not get along with the electrics in my home. Just check this out as soon as you buy one. I’ve tried two other valve amps on my house since, including a Blackstar Artist 10 AE and an Orange terror with cab, and there’s absolutely zero noise with these. Very important to note here, this is not a slam of PMT, they’ve been absolutely brilliant throughout this whole thing. Customer service is second to none and they are very easy to contact. Used these for a very long time and I will be returning once stores open to try out a new amp.Jack H.

overall I really like this amp. the dirty channel has a good crunch. Not a very tainted sound, which I like a lot. Clean channel is not real chimy like some, but nice and clean. the face plate is also black, unlike the 30 watt which is easier to see. The issue is the channel switching. While some amps are known for a load pop, this is quite the opposite, and I am guessing the pop is what they were trying to avoid. this one actually drops in volume and then comes back up between channels. Deal breaker. I can't use this live if it cuts out. Really wanted to have this kicking around for a second amp. But I will be returning this.brian

First one arrived and the overdrive channel sounded awful. Made arrangements to return it and the process went quick, I had a new one a week after sending the bad one back. The second one turned out as advertised. You can dial in a wide range of tones and has that beautiful tube sound. The reverb is just a tad weak but still ok. Also, effects pedals sound great. I had a 50 watt 6L6 guitar head and sold it only to regret it later. I saw this one on sale and I took a chance. Glad I did. Disclaimer: I only use it for a pedal platform, although I have tried the gain channel. It's "ok" (not great) but to use the amp that way you'll really have to work with the both channels to achieve unity volume. As a clean channel pedal platform it's great. Like others have said the reverb is lacking but I usually just leave it on 10:00 for ambience. This amp is LOUD and can easily hang with a large band if needed. As far as reliability, time will tell, but it seems well made IMO.john

I'm a Fender fan to the core. I love their electric guitars and amps but their Amps aren't even affordable anymore. They've completely out priced themselves and either you are going to pay for a severely overpriced bare bones amp or a severely overpriced amp with far more electronics than a lot of us care to deal with. This is a great sized combo amp that's easy to use and has a great sound and plenty of power and all at a great price!!! There is no reason Fender couldn't do more of this…combo's that aren't easy to use with plenty of effects and a fair price for blue collar musicians. I used a Fender Princeton Chorus combo this same size mic'd through a sound system for over two decades and it started having issues. This was the closest amp I could get (and afford). The 100 has everything you need in a combo amp and at a fraction of the price of everything else Fender makes. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!Josh

I bought this amp because my gig amp died a cyber twin 2-12s 100 watts that was about 16 years old. I have had many Fender amps they were great. I do country and 50s and 60s rock and roll. I figured 100 watts would put it out there and it does. At performing volume, the distortion is a pure heavy metal on the clean channel. Mine is not much good for high volume for my type of music. I have an old champion 110 75 watt that I will be using It has worked for me when the others were down. Not sure what to do.stev_majo

Sound: With the second channel .First it had the twin reverb and super sonic voicing with a chain loop for pedals I was set on that alone. When it got to the house and realized I didn't need my pedal chain and it sounds amazing even though ill still use my pedals here and there. The bassman, tweeds , Princeton all clean or dirty are amazing to play . again to get those sounds with out the tubes and speakers is amazing.. You get volumes that punch against you that are clear without any nasty whitenoise or unwanted sounds. the dirty settings added with the compression build in make all that possible. Outta all my guitars I enjoy to plug into this amp .My 63 firebird , g400 s.g. and my jaguar Ease of Use: Its real easy for me to get the sounds I need .I'm well aware of all the amps they used for the voicing.For new players it might take a little to understand but with no time you'll understand how to dial it in and add the right effects to the amp models to get those amazing fender amps . Quality: Only had it for a week but as for holding it up and down 3 flights of stairs at the studio in Philadelphia id say the strap is well build . Speakers have not blown but I have not had to dial all the way up amps loud as it is half way . Value: yes it is im surprised its not another $100 more.Wish more companies would do this. Manufacturer Support: No problems yet . But in the past fender has always been amazing to me. Overall: (DON'T LET THE $399 TRICK YOU)When dialed up there are so many different fender amps you have here. First off the blackface style clean channel is just amazing. id say that its a twin or deluxe especially when you dial in the spring reverb only thing missing to call it that are the speakers/tubes but fender has made it very clear they can accumulate that sound with out the tubes . I know the tubes will make a difference but not much to this amp unless you have the trained ear for tubes you can't tell.The 2nd channel with all the voice modeling Id say every setting is 99.7 spot on with the models . I love this amp .After watching a few videos online of the 100 I decided to go with it .My friend has the champion 50 so I have already played through this style of amp. When I saw the 2×12 combo version with a double channel pedal it was set in stone . I love combos more than any kind of amp . I came on zZounds looking for an amp to hit the road to the higher states of the new England area of the states in November and December and a long ride from New Jersey to Chicago and Milwaukee in January . the amazing price for a well build and sounding amp there was no way i wasn't gonna leave the website with out another toy.So after adding to the card I headed over to guitars and ordered the squier 70s classic vibe jaguar .One of my favorite things about this amp is I don't have to change out the speakers to get that sound I want. its easy for me to use because I know how to dial in the right sounds to get the sound of the amps in amp unit.Mike

Went for this as my first valve amp for room playing. Definitely an upgrade on sound over my 20w fender solid state amp. Would be nice to have a dedicated gain knob for the clean channel and/or presence adjustment, though within its price range it has the best value for money as it has dual channel and an fx loop. Clean sound was fantastic, the amp felt well built and looks the part. Included footswitch was metal and felt really good. Reverb was good, for a built-in effect. However, even at 0.5W I just couldn’t dial in a crunchy/blues tone I liked. At louder volumes I could get it to break up nicely. I returned the amp, as I’m a bedroom player and needed something I was happy with at lower volumes. If you can open it up a bit more, this amp was excellent.Joe A.

Overall: This amplifier absolutely rocks! With so many options you can dial in any sound that you want, from crystal clear clean to roaring rhythms and screaming leads. As everyone has already said, the reverb is almost nonexistent. However, the amp, tubes and build are rock solid. BUT… if you really want to blow your mind, swap out the speaker with one that fits your style. My style is classic hard rock so after much research I swapped out the 70 watt Celestion V-Type speaker that it comes with for a 150 watt Eminence Swamp Thang and I swear that it sounds as loud and ballsy as my full-on DSL100 full stack with 1960 cabs. The difference is mind boggling. No fizz, no speaker distortion at all. Just a loud, clear representation of my sound. Obviously the Swamp Thang might not be your speaker of choice but do your research and this will be the only amp you will ever need again!Scott

Sound: With good tubes properly biased, yes. Features: One feature that I absolutely detest is the effects loop button. When it is activated the front of the amp ceases to operate and when deactivated, the front works but the effects loop deactivated. There's no reason for this feature to exist. Substantially limits what the user is able to do. Bad decision in the design. Ease of Use: Just need to fix the owners manual to include specifically how to bias the tubes. Value: At the time I bought it, it was around $800. So at that time, yes. Overall: It took me a while for this amp to grow on me as it sounded like crap out of the box. I replaced the stock speaker with a Celestion V30 and replaced the stock tubes with Ruby EL34STR and a 5751 in the PI as is my typical configuration. Still couldn't get an acceptable tone was fuzzy and grindy. Years later, I learned that you can self bias the amp. After reading forums, there is little info on how to bias the amp and nothing in the manual. I discovered the bias was at 31mv so I turned both to 40mv and HOLY SMOKES this was the tone I've been seeking all these years. Eureka, I found it and it's incredible now. Completely unacceptable that Marshall included zero information in the manual regarding this, which is a pretty important feature. Moreover, it's important that I explain how to bias this. When you place the multimeter leads in the ground and point, one point will give a reading and the other red test point will read zero, always. YOU WILL NOT BE USING THIS TEST POUNT AT ALL. Go back to the one that gives the reading and keep it in that test point and adjust the pot to 40mv. Then, keeping the multimeter lead in the same pot, turn the other bias adjust til they both read 40mv. Next onto the effects loop, there is a button to turn the effects loop on and off as you can not use both simultaneously like in other amps. What good is this feature? Worthless and is an absolute thorn in my side as I would like to use the midi to switch between both which is why I bought it, but can't. Now, the amp does sound good now that it's properly biased as well as replacing the stock speaker, but I lost years of good tone due to the lack of instruction in the instruction manual.Jonathan

Overall: This thing is awesome if you like that Marshall tone this amp is for you, it's really a 4 channel amp if you get the six way Marshall foot switch, if I had to nit pick this amp would be the reverb, don't get me wrong it sounds great and is useable for 90% of what you would need it for, but if your wanting that Gilmour type reverb you'll need to add a reverb pedal in the chain. Where this amp really shines and I discovered this on accident I was messing around with the effects loops and added an EP booster which I would normally run on the front in, and just WOW…adding the EP booster to the loop really opened it up, tamed some of the compression and evened out the gain while improving the tone, sounds more like a JCM800 at this point, I'm super impressed with this little amp and I have some really nice amps in my collection. Let me say I would totally gig with this amp without question. This fact that Marshall made it easy to change and bias tubes is a huge thumbs up as well. Other manufactures please take noteRick

This amp was bought to replace a faulty JVM215C which had to be sent back. The JVM205C is a great combo for small to medium gigs. All the usual Marshall 'JCM800-like' sounds are there but obviously very dependant on what guitar you put through it. The different gain modes for both channels & the two master volumes make it great for live gigs once you get used to dancing on the footpedal. You can do away with your distortion, overdrive & boost pedal using this amp & put your delay/ chorus etc through the effects loop. There is an insane amount of gain available on the overdrive channel but if you do stsrt cranking the gains & masters up you will get a lot of hiss & hum. This is a very noisy amp! It's reasonably heavy, not as heavy as some, but the recessed side handles make it easier to carry. This is a good combo, but for me not a great one. I prefer my AC30C2 with an overdrive & boost pedal.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

The tone is just not there. And for nearly $2000, one would expect a useable tone. I took a chance and ordered one of these because of the glowing "tone" reviews. But I guess tone is in the ear of the beholder. I didn't hear it. Sounded thin, tinny and small and cheap. I put this amp next to my Fender Deluxe Reverb and A-B'd them. My hope was to dial in a dirty sound to switch back and forth. I knew right away that I couldn't go on stage with the Marshall. The Fender sounds 3-D. You feel it all around. It's full and rich and just "there." The Marshall sounded cheap by comparison. Yes, I know they are two totally different voiced amps. And yes, I realize the Marshall is a modeling amp. But for $2000, you could get a Rivera combo that would totally smoke this amp in tonal quality. I really appreciate Musicians Friend's customer support. They were totally cool about me returning it and even paid for the shipping. They will eventually get that money back from me in the future. Bottom line… $2000 is what you'd pay for a boutique amp. So I would advise buying a boutique if you are gonna spend this kind of coin. I didn't find any useable tones.Geoff

I was looking for really clean sound, and I happened to try this amp in a club and decided to buy one. My Fender Stratocaster through the clean channel sounds heavenly like a Dire Straits tune. I also have Gibson ES339, and it sounds equally great, picking up all the nuances of respective guitars. I personally like the Gibson through my Fender Blues Jr. amp better though. But if you want just 1 amp, I'd pick this Marshall. From the clean to dirty, it just handles it really well. I don't even feel the need for any external pedals. Just plug in and start playing. I originally purchased an used one, but it turned out to be defective. But it wasn't a hassle at all to exchange it to a new one, thanks to great customer service at Musicians Friend. The new one came with a defective cable to the foot pedal, and Musician's Friend ship a new cable the same day I made the call.willow1210

Was looking for an amp with a good clean sound as a base for my outboard effects that was smaller and lighter than my current backbreaker but still powerful enough to cope with most gig scenarios. Cleans on this valve amp are gorgeous and it turns out that the driven channels actually sound sweeter than my choice of pedals. So not only did I find the clean sound I was looking for and in a smaller package but I can now reduce the size of my pedal board as well. I wanted something small enough to pack around but still be loud enough and tone to sound big. This is one of the best small amps I've owned and I've owned a lot. quality build with a 10" speaker so it's got plenty of bass. Need w small practice amp that can still be used for small to medium clubs, this is the one. And at $77 it's probably the least expensive on the market and still be used professional if need be.Jefferson

The JVM was my first choice for a professional grade amp. Had to rely on internet demo's to choose [music stores in my area do not stock the JVM's because they are expensive]. No regrets after receiving and playing it for a month. Has so many great features like the dual master volumes, decent reverb and a great footswitch. Sounds awesome at bedroom levels as well as turned up. Excellent Celestion speaker choice by Marshall. I also purchased the DSL 40c last year and love it, but I did not like the shared EQ. I was afraid the JVM might not sound much better than the DSL, I was wrong ! The JVM can get any DSL tone and more. A very versatile amp. It has more than enough gain, in fact too much for me. I like the Clean / Crunch channel for my style [classic / Southern rock] while the overdrive channel can be tamed into Marshall heaven. If your looking for an amp that can do just about any tone-this is it. My only complaint about the combo is the knobs feel very cheep with no friction or drag. Like turning a cheap radio dial. That is why I gave it 4 stars. Otherwise the build quality is good. I chose the JVM over Friedman & Mesa and do not regret my decision. It's a keeper.Combo Addict.

I have had this amp for about a year now and i love it!!! This amp has 2 channels each with 3 gain stages and works great with my pedals! On the hottest channel this amp has so much gain you dont even need an overdrive pedal. You can easily get those satch and vai tones out of this amp with ease. Its also very loud if you dont like your neighbors lol! the clean channel is awesome as well you can get extreme pristine cleans out of it. i have 30 plus years exp and picky when it comes to my sound and I tell you this is the most versetile amp in my arsenal. I even have all the settings fairly low and have a great sound. I cant believe the overdrive in this amp when they say there most gain to date they are not kidding well worth the money all though they will most likely give you a better price (though i am a good customer with them and buy a lot from them).GARY L GARY RICH GUITARS

This amp has many hidden features that guitarists should consider: 1) Solid pine cabinet reduces the weight and gives it a warm solid sound. 2) Even though this amp has a 12AY7 tube chosen for George Benson, it can be easily changed to the standard 12AX7. 3) The lighter 12" speakers sound great and work well with the bright switch, something not usually found on this style amp. 4) Although the wattage is 85 watts, two output tubes can be removed to reduce wattage if desired 4a) instant spares 4b) reduced wattage and earlier breakup sound if desired, 5) the reverb and tremolo are classic sounds, and both channels take pedals well. 6) The amp covering and grille cloth look great and are unique. 7) The amp cover provided is thicker and better than standard Fender amp covers. The only design change I would have asked for is reverb in both channels like the '68 Custom Twin Reverb. This amp is one of those that will be sought after when everyone realizes the features and versatility it offers. I have owned this amp for three years now and it is a keeper. The neodymium speakers combined with the pine cabinet gives it a little more punch and resonance than the regular twin. The taper on the volume knob allows you to gradually increase the volume, which is a nice change from other fender amps I have had where I had trouble dialing in a volume that wasn't too soft or too loud. The 13 pounds of reduced weight is also a major plus. If you have ever picked up a twin you will appreciate it. I think a lot of people are sleep on how great an amp this is. Pristine fender clean tones and great sounding reverb and tremolo. It also takes pedals extremely well.BW

This is THE amp that shaped music since 1963. Everything sounds good from this amp. It is beautiful piece of gear looking way better than the black tolex covered ones. The Celeston speakers sound very good. I think the pine cab improves resonance, bass responce and overall tone. Amp arrived perfect. Recommend overnight ship to reduce time in carrier hands. I was excited to procure this battery/ac amp at a fair price, so I bought a used one listed as "great condition." These amps are hard to find on the used market and ZT told me in an email production has ceased for this model until Q2 2022. The amp was indeed in semi-great condition except for a small puncture in the foam of the 5" speaker which buzzed. Quality control was obviously lacking as it's noticeable while playing the bass strings on an electric guitar irrespective of where the ZT's tone control is set. Accessing the speaker simply requires removing the grill without tools and applying a bit of speaker glue to the damaged part of the cone. I did it myself instead of returning it to GC, which I would have pondered if ZT wasn't horrendously backlogged. These amps sound stellar for home, busking, or as a personal stage monitor. I have two of them for a stereo pedalboard and Rick-O-Matic guitar. I have a DI on my pedalboard. I wouldn't mic the ZT. Conversely, the active tone control has excessive bass for the small speaker to handle, and I suspect many amps result in ripped cones if played loudly with the tone control at less than 12:00.Ed

The sweet analog tone coming from this little guy really inspires me to play & practice. Great cleans but the real surprise is it has the best grind of any solid state amp I ever played when pushed. I was well aware of the dimensions of the thing before it arrived, but opening the box and actually holding it is still pretty shocking. I found it to be small on a scale that it left it hard to believe that it would be functional for more than a practice amp. I accepted that the small size could be handy but expectation of sound quality was suddenly diminished. I stand corrected. The sound is excellent. It is definitely more than a curiosity that is smaller than a breadbox. It will put out a substantial amount of volume with a substantial low end range that was a tremendously satisfying surprise. For my modest needs, it far exceeds my expectations. I would like to note, for jazz guitarists I think you'll find this to be a surprisingly versatile and capable tool, not just a toy.Bliss

I purchased one after hearing it at a friends house jam. It stood up against the Bass and Drums with power to spare. Great little amp with a combination of vintage tube power, some Fender blackface effects like Reverb and Vibrotone with multiple presets. Also mode effects such as Digital Delay and Chorus. Some say the stock 8 inch speaker is not enough and should be replaced with a 10 inch speaker. With line out it works as a stage amp linked to the main PA system. LIght weight compared to just about anything else. Hard to believe this is a 15 watt amplifier. My only issue might be the endless mode and wide range of amp emulations I'm sifting through. The price isn't bad either. Because of its versatility, if I hand to choose only one amp this would be the one.oneidatrail

I was looking for a small, easy to transport 15w or lower practice amp that if I wanted could also be used for small gig. I have always been partial to Marshall amps but was also looking at Vox, but after much research and listening to a product comparison video on YouTube, I decided to purchase the Fender Super Champ XD (not X2). The sound I heard from the video convinced me that it had the growl I love but could also provide the standard Fender clean. It has a voicing program which allows you to dial in just about any sound you want, which was also a nice option that lead me to go with this amp. The thing I like most about the amp is its sound for its size. It can be very loud for a small amp but doesn't lose any definition at lower volumes. The voicing program is wonderful and allows you to dial in practically any sound you want. I can easily pick it up and carry it from room to room withouth throwing out my back. Another positive is that even for a small amp it can be heard over an aggressive drummer without being mic'd up. The dislike, and it isn't something that makes me say I wish I didn't do this because I knew it going in, is that it's only a 10" Fender speaker (which I replaced with a 10" Eminence Ragin Cajun, which greatly increased and improved the sound). I wish Fender would have manufactured these with a 12" speaker. Wow, that would have been an awsome amp! The other thing I did was to switch out the Groove Tubes for Tung-Sol 12AX7 and JJ 6V6's. The one thing I was thinking about but didn't do was to purchase a larger cabinet that could handle a 12" speaker (they have them on ebay that fit the Super Champ XD). With the changes that I did make in the speaker and the tubes, it is now a very good sounding practice amp that can easily be heard over an aggressive drummer and could be used in small venue gigs. The Fender Super Champ XD compared to other amps in its size is a very good choice, especially when you look at the price tag. The YouTube video I watched when deciding on what amp to purchase compared Vox AC4TV, Fender Super Champ XD, Marshall Class 5 and Blackstar HT5 (was my 2nd choice). Although each amp had s very distinct and imnpressive sound, the Super Champ XD just caught my ear and upon research I found that many others, including recording musicians had used this amp. The only thing is that Fender doesn't build the XD anymore, it was replaced with the X2 which was suppose to be an upgrade and improved product but from what I have read they actually declined in sound. Bottom line is that I was happy with my purchase of the Super Champ XD as it was but I am very happy with it after the upgrades in speaker and tubes and would definately purchase this product again and recommend it to others.ranger518vx

This little amp is perfect for anyone looking for a low wattage but still big sounding workhorse. Channel 1 is pure Fender clean. It takes pedals perfectly. Channel 2 has all the different amp modeling settings and several are very usable. #10 is very much like the hot rod series amps. Really decent. #4 and #5 are decent clean settings as well. I don't really mess with the heavy distorted models and you can imagine what they sound like. For a serious player, it is a wonderful little studio or live amp if you want low wattage clean tones that hold up well with pedals.zilchman
