I’ve been playing a Taylor 310 for 25 years and was looking for something smaller and lighter to transport. Having read a lot of reviews and listened to the videos I thought I would try the GS Mini Koa and see what all the fuzz was about. This guitar sounds amazing! The Koa gives it a depth AND sparkle that you don’t expect from a small guitar. I keep asking myself does it lack depth compared to my dreadnought, technically it does but actually I don’t miss it because the sound is so full. The volume too is quite exceptional, I tend to strum a lot with a pick and don’t mind digging in hard….. this guitar just sings under those circumstances. It get’s louder and louder without noticeably going out of tune. At the other end there is such clarity and sustain that quiet finger picking also sounds great. You can easily hear a single note melody within a chord. Are there any downsides? Well if you have big hands then the reduced neck length may feel too cramped…. For me this is actually more comfortable than a full size neck but you wouldn’t want it any smaller. In summary I’m blown away, just amazing.David
Wow… what a stunner! Opening the case for the first time was quite an experience. This is a seriously beautiful guitar with beautiful craftsmanship. As a beginner with small hands (even for a lady) I have found acoustic guitars in the past to be very uncomfortable to play, the size of the body, the width of the neck, the high action, and after struggling with a Lorenzo Flame Series for the past year I decided enough was enough, electrics aren't almost impossible to play so why should I have to struggle with acoustic? I did some research and everything was pointing me towards the Taylor GS Mini-E series. Holding this guitar in my hands for the first time felt like a revelation. It felt like Taylor had made a guitar specifically for me – wearing a strap the body fits easily under my arm and my fingers just know exactly where they're meant to go. The sound of the guitar is rich and vibrant with a bright top tone – quite a feat in a parlour size guitar. After watching reviews it seems that this is due to the Koa body. The guitar also comes with soft, well-padded case that feels like it'll protect well from bumps and bruises whilst travelling. It has some nice shoulder straps so it feels like you're wearing a large (but light!) backpack. The best thing about this guitar though is that it's such a joy to hold and play that I can't put it down; my playing ability has increased so much in the past few weeks since buying it. It is worth to mention some details about how to extract the best sound of it: 1. The recommended string gauge is .13. Pay attention to all demos and YouTube video reviews. All of them use .13 string gauge. I recommend Elixir 16182 Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb HD Light Acoustic Strings 13-53. This is an amazing sounding instrument for the price. The quality of craftsmanship is that of a much more expensive instrument. And to top if off, it sounds great. Overall: All I can say is I am really glad I bought this guitar. I am not going to go into a three page novel reviewing it. I will say this is my second Taylor. My first is a 416ce-R….I purchased a couple of years ago which I love playing, and enjoy thoroughly. That being said I love this GS Mahogany Mini more. For a fraction of the cost you have an awesome guitar here that plays incredibly. Bought a SKB hard case to protect it. The case that came with it is nice, but not for air travel. I just can't stop playing this mini. Great sound, playability, quality and beautiful. Glad I bought this guitar. No regrets!
This guitar is warm and rich sounding. The playability is incredible and feels amazing in the hands. It looks like it is worth more than what it is. Taylor took the care and attention to this line of guitars as it does with its higher end models. I used to have a 614ce and this mini is on par with the way it feels. Obviously not as loud as the 614ce or as pretty, but the care in craftsmanship is the same. Not that the guitar is pretty though. I love this guitar and could not put it down. Sweetwater also did an excellent job on inspecting and packaging this guitar to make sure it sounds perfect when it arrives in my hands.

I’ve been playing a Taylor 310 for 25 years and was looking for something smaller and lighter to transport. Having read a lot of reviews and listened to the videos I thought I would try the GS Mini Koa and see what all the fuzz was about. This guitar sounds amazing! The Koa gives it a depth AND sparkle that you don’t expect from a small guitar. I keep asking myself does it lack depth compared to my dreadnought, technically it does but actually I don’t miss it because the sound is so full. The volume too is quite exceptional, I tend to strum a lot with a pick and don’t mind digging in hard….. this guitar just sings under those circumstances. It get’s louder and louder without noticeably going out of tune. At the other end there is such clarity and sustain that quiet finger picking also sounds great. You can easily hear a single note melody within a chord. Are there any downsides? Well if you have big hands then the reduced neck length may feel too cramped…. For me this is actually more comfortable than a full size neck but you wouldn’t want it any smaller. In summary I’m blown away, just amazing.David

The guitar also comes with soft, well-padded case that feels like it'll protect well from bumps and bruises whilst travelling. The best thing about this guitar though is that it's such a joy to hold and play that I can't put it down; my playing ability has increased so much in the past few weeks since buying it. Physical condition this bass is in great condition with only some light examples of wear! there are a few super light scuffs on the top and back of the body. otherwise, there are a few light scratches here and there from everyday playing and handling, but great condition! overall, this is an extremely clean and excellent playing bass! fretwear this guitar only has some minor wear on the first few frets. plays great! action action is medium low and plays great! could use a quick tweak to your liking! electronics all electronics are original and work perfectly! case no case or gig bag included!

I have been wanting to get my own Taylor GS Mini since I first heard one, and when I saw the rosewood back and sides model, I knew I had to act. It wasn't in the budget at the time, but I was so anxious to have one that I called AMS, and man, am I glad I did! My sales associate Enrique made it SO easy for me to obtain this lovely instrument that I simply had to do it. First, the guitar itself: I've never owned a parlor guitar before, and wasn't exactly sure it would be suitable sonically, but man, the sound of this instrument just Blows.My.Mind! Every note of every string rings out as well as or better than any acoustic I've ever played, including several guitars costing three and four times as much. And the tone is simply astounding: huge,rich, bell-like clarity up and down the entire sonic spectrum, and the sustain is simply unbelievable. The setup was very much to my liking and suits my playing style perfectly, and the craftsmanship is second to none. I waited for several weeks before writing this because I wanted to play it for awhile before giving my opinion, and I love it more each and every time I pick it up. I'm not a luthier, but I am a finish carpenter with considerable woodworking experience, having worked in wood for more than forty years now, and I have yet to spot a single flaw anywhere on this guitar. Not only that, but every time I pick it up, I end up playing for much longer than I had intended, so it's good that I am retired! It's just such a joy to play that it really will become a time thief if you're not careful, but that's the kind of problem I think we all want in our gear. I own nine other guitars, mostly electrics, but this has become my go-to baby, because of its breathtaking tone and articulation. I just can't say enough about how glad I am to've made this purchase, and if you are thinking about getting one, think no more! This beautiful and apparently flawless work of art would be a great bargain at twice the price, and for what AMS is selling them for, you would be crazy not to get one. Such a great guitar to pick up and just start strumming on my lunch break, no plugging in, just pick up and play. Even when I do have time to plug in and play my other guitar, I still find myself reaching for the BT2. Not sure I can give any higher praise than that. Love it! It sounds great, stays in tune and looks fantastic. Whether playing at home, or traveling this is a great guitar to add to the collection. It is so comfortable and light, it sounds so nice you would hardly believe its' tiny size. Was eyeballing the GS Mini, but the smaller size of the BT2 was the deciding factor, I wanted something I could play comfortably while sitting at the desk in the office or on the couch. Everything about this guitar is perfect for me, it's easy on the wrists and the quality is top tier.
Had other parlour guitars but always thought they didn't sound to good but I like the look and quality of the Taylor. So easy to play and the built-in tuner and electrics magic. Trouble is the grandson has taken a fancy to it and he's only just started playing so I might not have it for to long. Overall love it.Dave L.
I bought it because I had an injury to my right arm which left me with limited range of motion and unable to use my standard size Ovation. The Baby Taylor is easy to play and sounds good amplified, but acoustically it is easy to play it too hard. In addition mine gives me a harsh resonance when I play an open D. It turns out that the resonance is also present on notes simply near the D. (Its not fret buzz.) It is much less noticeable when amplified, don't know why. Other people don't notice it and tell me that the guitar has a wonderful sound. I played a Big Baby Taylor and loved it, but it's bigger and therefore less portable and easy for me to play. Perhaps the unwanted resonance is unique to my guitar. I haven't tried to get it looked at by a luthier yet. Perhaps another small guitar, like the Martin, would be better. Don't know. I'm pretty much satisfied with it because it is small and very light and portable which fits my need. It's pretty, nice workmanship, good tuner and electronics.Ed

I already had Taylor guitars, including the 12e, but I wanted to have the 10e as well, so I ordered it. The guitar arrived very quickly and perfectly packaged. I even liked the guitar setup, it played right out of the box. The only complaint is the uneven color on the fingerboard in the form of a line, lighter in color, 20 cm long. However, I don't want to go through the hassle of returning and waiting for a new guitar.

Purchased in 2002 for practice and travel when I didn't want to take a full-sized guitar. I was impressed with the rich sound and ease of play. It stays in tune, even when not played for long periods of time. It's always been stored in the Baby Taylor gig bag that came with it, in a closet, when not in use. I recently took it out to practice and discovered a crack in the top near the bottom, and that the top has separated from the body all across the bottom. It's been stored in a closet, protected from humidity fluctuations, along with 3 other acoustic guitars, one of which is vintage, and none of the other guitars have any issues. I also had a vintage, hand-made, late 1800's era mandolin stored with my other instruments, and it had no issues. I have loved this Baby Taylor for many years, and I'm heartbroken to discover the quality is so poor. The sound of acoustic guitars improves with age, so a new one won't sound the same. Sadly, I can no longer recommend this guitar.CJ
Oh my gosh I love my Baby Taylor! The koa wood makes it look as good as it sounds. My main goal was to have a guitar to travel with. I have so many guitars, but I wanted something small to take on the airplane. I've always heard great things about Taylor guitars…this is my first. It did not disappoint. I didn't expect it to have the sound quality that it does for its size. So that was just a bonus to me. It doesn't have the deep, full sound like my full bodied acoustics, but it is still good enough to play under any circumstance without being embarrassed. I don't play live anymore, but I wouldn't hesitate to play my Baby Taylor on stage. The case is great too. Compact backpack style with enough padding for protection.BK

My first is a 416ce-R….I purchased a couple of years ago which I love playing, and enjoy thoroughly. That being said I love this GS Mahogany Mini more. For a fraction of the cost you have an awesome guitar here that plays incredibly. Bought a SKB hard case to protect it. The case that came with it is nice, but not for air travel. I just can't stop playing this mini. Great sound, playability, quality and beautiful. Glad I bought this guitar. No regrets!

Taylor took the care and attention to this line of guitars as it does with its higher end models. I used to have a 614ce and this mini is on par with the way it feels. Such a great guitar to pick up and just start strumming on my lunch break, no plugging in, just pick up and play. Even when I do have time to plug in and play my other guitar, I still find myself reaching for the BT2. Not sure I can give any higher praise than that. Love it! It sounds great, stays in tune and looks fantastic. Whether playing at home, or traveling this is a great guitar to add to the collection. It is so comfortable and light, it sounds so nice you would hardly believe its' tiny size. Was eyeballing the GS Mini, but the smaller size of the BT2 was the deciding factor, I wanted something I could play comfortably while sitting at the desk in the office or on the couch. Everything about this guitar is perfect for me, it's easy on the wrists and the quality is top tier.
Had other parlour guitars but always thought they didn't sound to good but I like the look and quality of the Taylor. So easy to play and the built-in tuner and electrics magic. I bought it because I had an injury to my right arm which left me with limited range of motion and unable to use my standard size Ovation. The Baby Taylor is easy to play and sounds good amplified, but acoustically it is easy to play it too hard. In addition mine gives me a harsh resonance when I play an open D. It turns out that the resonance is also present on notes simply near the D. (Its not fret buzz.) It is much less noticeable when amplified, don't know why. Other people don't notice it and tell me that the guitar has a wonderful sound. I played a Big Baby Taylor and loved it, but it's bigger and therefore less portable and easy for me to play. Perhaps the unwanted resonance is unique to my guitar. I haven't tried to get it looked at by a luthier yet. Perhaps another small guitar, like the Martin, would be better. Don't know. I'm pretty much satisfied with it because it is small and very light and portable which fits my need. It's pretty, nice workmanship, good tuner and electronics.Ed

Lovely sound and tone – a real pleasure to play. Nice looking guitar. Can't fault it at all: Looks great sounds great. So easy to pick up and have a strum anywhere: out and about, on the stairs, on the sofa wouldn't surprise me if I play it on the toilet one day, actually, maybe not! Good gigbag too – light and easy to carry – I can even ride my bike with it on my back no problems at all. Schon lange wollte ich eine Taylor Gitarre haben. Der Hohe Preis hat mich jedoch immer davon abgehalten. Über Tausend Euro für eine Akustik Gitarre ist doch recht viel. Nun bin ich aber auf die Academy Reihe gestoßen, welche laut Hersteller für Einsteiger gedacht ist und die Optik hat mich direkt umgehauen. Eine Semi Akustikgitarre mit dieser wunderbaren Arm- Anschrägung für knappe 700 Euro? Yes please! Der Unterschied zu meiner ersten Gitarre, einer Epiphone Dreadnought, ist nicht nur klar hörbar: sie spielt sich ECHT wie von selbst. Also genau dass was eine Einsteiger Gitarre tun sollte. Nun bin ich kein Einsteiger mehr, aber man merkt den Unterschied. Der Tonabnehmer gibt zusammen mit meinem Vox AC15 (ebenfalls vom Music Store) einen Satten und warmen Klang, welcher sich durch kleine Drehregler noch bearbeiten lässt. Habe ich schon erwähnt, dass da einfach ein Stimmgerät eingebaut ist?! Wie geil ist dass denn? Und das Gigbag kann sich auch sehen lassen. Diese Gitarre wird nun hoffentlich für etliche Jahre mein treuer Begleiter sein. LG Tw
I have been playing this awhile, and recently went back to Guitar Center to try some more expensive Taylors. I walked out liking my Academy even better! Guitars 2x and 3x the price don't play better, or feel better. That bevel for the strumming arm is noticeably absent when playing other guitars. My neck is as good or better than the other Taylors I played. I have to admit the one with Koa wood is a richer sound, but the guitar didn't play as well (in my opinion) so I stuck with my Academy. Oh, and one of the more expensive guitars wouldn't stay in tune (felt like cheaper tuners). The Acadamy guitar sounds bright, and loud, which is not my preference, but it plays sooooo good that I can stick with it.Arcticfox
J'avais par le passé acheté ''de belles guitares made in Corée'' et quasiment abandonné la folk parce que trop éprouvantes à jouer pour les doigts. Et un jour, je suis passé chez Star's Music pour essayer une TAYLOR. Et là !!! Confort de jeux, puissance, précision et une harmonie incroyable dans les aigus. Tous ça en entrée de gamme!!! La qualité aussi des cordes y est aussi pour quelque chose puisque qu'on est aussi à l'aise que sur une guitare classique avec des cordes en nylon. Seul bémol, je ne suis pas convaincu par l'électro acoustique et je préfère l'enregistrer avec un micro devant pour ne rien perdre de la chaleur du son.

I bought my guitar online and picked it up at guitar center in Taylorsville Utah, that manager is the nicest manager I've ever met! He gave me the box and I opened and there was this beautiful and incredible guitar! It sound almost as loud as my 214ce rosewood, spruce top. The elixir medium strings are great but I want to give the daddarrio XS 13-56 a try! I'm more than happy with this guitar, it sounds so much better and louder than some full size guitars out there. A stunning guitar which was set up very well on arrival, with perfect low action. I was expecting to have to lower the action based on reviews for other GS mini's, but this was not he case at all. I find it very easy to play compared to other larger 'normal' sized acoustic guitars. The finish is stunning, I even have a 'unique' looking fretboard which I wasn't expecting which really adds to the look of the guitar. The aerocase is great, it pretty much feels like a lightweight hardcase with straps for easy transport. I am very impressed by the tone, it is even better than expected from the video reviews. Notably when fast picking individual strings, it sounds fantastic, I thought this would be the negative side of the Koa wood which I thought would be best for strumming away but happily I was wrong, it is truly great at both. It was not as loud as I was expecting from some other reviews I had seen but it is perfect for practicing at home and it can be plugged in for extra volume if needed. Overall, I can only say that if you are on the fence about this guitar due to its price, I certainly recommend you take the plunge. I'm in aw over the sound and craftmanship of this guitar. Just as my dog adopted me, so did this guitar, it wouldn't let me put it down for hours after receiving it – the size makes it really fun to play. After spending a couple of weeks looking for a mini to take on camping trips, I kept coming back to this one – With the name for quality, out of nostalgia the Hawaiian Koa wood was the final selling point, but I digress. It has a standard neck size with a smaller body. Given the smaller size, I was worried it would give up some base or end up with a twangy ukulele sound, but this is not the case, it is just as rich sounding as my full sized Gibson. Even the case is well made and durable, which means I don't mind throwing it behind the seat of my truck on a trip. It's a must have for anyone looking for something to take on travel.J. Norfleet

This thing buzzes worse than a single coil next to a neon light. I got the string ground from Taylor and it helped a little but still had more buzz than my Telecaster. Don't waste your money. A company named JJB Electronics makes a pickup for the GS Mini that actually works. Go check them out. I got this pickup free with my GSMini and I still feel like a payed too much.Mr. Sunday Strummer
In all fairness, if you want a pickup to bang around with a garage band, this will probably work just fine for you, especially if you use a pre-amp or a pedal with a gain control. It is certainly easy to install. You should get a string grounding setup from Taylor before you install the pickup, so you can do the entire installation at one time. If you are looking for a recording pickup, or play in quiet venues, this won't do it! Easy installation, if that what is important. This is a passive single-coil pickup. It is very susceptible to noise and has very little output gain, which make the overall signal-to-noise ratio very poor. Taylor makes an add-on string grounding system which eliminates most of the 60Hz hum that the pickup has in all except the most prestine environments, but the amp gain has to be turned up so high that there is still a bunch of noise produced. The pickup and attached connector seem to be made and assembled well. Noting the comments in the Features rating, I would have expected Taylor to come up with a much better product for their exceptional guitar! As noted above.dockhound
