This is a good looking guitar that sounds great. It has just what I was looking for. It's an acoustic electric, which is what I wanted in the first place. The pre amp has a three band equalizer, volume control, etc. Second, it's a cutaway which allows access to the higher frets. Third, as a bonus it has a built in tuner. I did a lot of internet research on mid priced acoustic electrics and this guitar was on nearly every list. It had a minor blemish — and I do mean minor, so I got for a great price including a wooden hard shell case. You could spend three times as much for a Martin or Taylor, but I don't think you would much more for the money. Takamine is not a well known company. That to me is a reflection of inadequate promotion and advertising and not a reflection of the quality of the instrument. I would definitely recommend it.edwardsfynegoods
Let me start by saying FedEx lost my guitar. I filed a claim with them and let AMS know of the problem. AMS contacted FedEx as well. AMS advised they would replace the guitar but after 2 weeks my guitar mysteriously showed up. I cancelled the replacement order. AMS customer service is exemplary and I will order again. Thanks guys! Now about the guitar this is a beautiful instrument. I'm a Martin owner and this guitar nicely compliments my HD28V. Whether plugged in or unplugged the sound is awesome. This guitar doesn't have that Takamine tin sound that seems common with this brand. Playability compares to higher dollar guitars. The neck is smooth and easy to play. I've gotten several compliments on the looks of this guitar. No matter what level experience you have you won't be disappointed with this guitar!Tom
I absolutely love this guitar! I must say, I was a little skeptical purchasing a guitar before I played it, but I could not be more impressed. Two days after I placed my order, the guitar was on my porch. Thanks AMS! The guitar was packaged very securely. Once I pulled the guitar out of the box, I realized the pictures on the website did not do the beauty of this guitar justice. But, the sound of this guitar is even sweeter than it looks. The string action was much lower and better than I expected out of the box. This guitar is easy to play and makes a mediocre guitarist like me sound much better than I am. The onboard electronics and tuner are easy to use and definitely an added bonus. I think this guitar sounds and plays just as good, if not better, than much higher priced instruments. First things first this guitar is amazing. Exactly as described and plays great. This was my first acoustic guitar and I had several questions about this one versus a few other models. I spent two days in the Jackson, MS GC center playing every acoustic-electric in my price-range (and quite a few that exceeded it) – while ALL of them sounded good, I was looking for a specific sounds and feel that would allow me to get back into playing after a wrist-injury that still brings fatigue and pain with some guitar necks. The moment I picked up this guitar and strummed a chord, I thought, "This is IT. It's the ONE I've been searching for…". It plays beautifully – just the richest, cleanest and crisp rich sound imaginable. It's perfect for strumming and finger-picking and even now, weeks later – every time I pick it up to play it, it still delivers that same "wow" factor that sold me in the store.
I record at home for my own entertainment. I used to be in a band when I was younger but I get a lot of pleasure doing my own thing. This guitar while not expensive sounds exceptional. I bought this on a Stupid Deal Of The Day at an insane price. It is my second Takamine. I love how it feels in my hands. The neck is perfect for my fingers. It plays really well. It sounds great acoustically or amplified. It's a beautiful guitar. I love it. The only minor thing was the action was set a little high for my taste. That has been rectified. Musicians Friend does it again with their service as well.

I purchased this G90 series Takamine hoping it would approach the quality of the Takamine Pro Series Models. I had played several Pro Series Models and they were a little too expensive for me at this time. I was hoping the G90 series might come close. I was excited about the promotional savings Musician's Friend extended and decided to take a chance. The guitar arrived and I felt the finish was very nice. In checking the frets, I found many were not finished and had sharp edges. They were also "low frets" and although that might be okay in some instances, the high action would make playing harder for a beginer and tedious for a seasoned pro. The action could not be easily lowered as the internal pickup system was attached to the bridge and, would require a technician pro to cut down the bridge. I will add a positive…the neck was perfectly straight and required no adjustment. Musicians friend understood and, without question, accepted the return. I am pleased with their service and will deal with them again. Takamine has a good reputation and I feel, if you are a pro…stick with the pro-series. Anything less will be a disappointment.CJK

I typically play steel string acoustics. I wanted a quality nylon string guitar without the wide flat neck of a standard classical guitar. This is it. Extremely well made with quality woods (no laminates) that has a great sound (both amplified and unplugged). It does not have a large body and projection is somewhat limited when playing unplugged but has incredible sound both amplified and not amplified. Can be played quietly when everyone else has gone to sleep, or can flood the house with music if they're awake. The action and intonation on this guitar was fabulous right out of the box and I didn't have to make any setup adjustments. This is an awesome guitar and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nylon string acoustic.John
In 1981 I had three guitars, two of them acoustics, and one of those was an Ovation Country Artist–a nylon-string guitar with a 14 fret, comparatively narrow neck. It was my first good guitar, but when I left for grad school, I kept only a Martin OO-18, and sold the Ovation. In the 30 years since, I have been trying to find a replacement, I tried various Ibanez and Yamaha guitars, but they didn't have what it took. Then, a couple of months ago, needing a brain break, I left work and took myself to the acoustic room at Sam Ash. There was another guy in there playing, so I looked for a quiet instrument, and took this one down off the wall. Immediately, I knew that it was special. The clarity of the tone, and the richness of the bass, it was all there. The other guy liked the sound too, and soon we were jamming and telling stories. Both of us tried other neoclassical guitars, and agreed that this one was best. I loved the guitar at first note, but when I looked at the price tag, I knew I could never own it. So I bought (online) a similar guitar, but it lacked the feel and sound of this one. My wife heard me playing, asked what I thought about the similar guitar I'd bought, and I explained that it wasn't the same. Then she told me to buy this one. So I did, And I have been playing it daily since then. The OO-18 is still with me and still gets some time, but right now my fingers itch to play and hear this one. Did it replace my long-gone Country Artist? Not exactly–this Takamine is significantly superiod to the Country Artist in all respects. Even if I don't play it plugged in 🙂Andy M_S

When I'm sitting at home, my go to guitar is my Martin 000-28. If that guitar is not in my hands then I have my gn75ce in my lap. This guitar was playable and set up well right out of the box. Good enough that it's not worth the money to take to luthier to have it dialed in. I don't use the electronics on this guitar so I can't comment on that. As far as everything else , this is a well-constructed durable mid-range priced guitar. I'm quite pleased that I purchased it. it makes a wonderful addition my collection. It's a beautiful looking axe. I would highly recommend this guitar to anybody just starting to learn how to play or somebody wanting to add to their collection without spending thousands of dollars.Matthew Topp

This is a good looking guitar that sounds great. It has just what I was looking for. It's an acoustic electric, which is what I wanted in the first place. The pre amp has a three band equalizer, volume control, etc. Second, it's a cutaway which allows access to the higher frets. Third, as a bonus it has a built in tuner. I did a lot of internet research on mid priced acoustic electrics and this guitar was on nearly every list. It had a minor blemish — and I do mean minor, so I got for a great price including a wooden hard shell case. You could spend three times as much for a Martin or Taylor, but I don't think you would much more for the money. Takamine is not a well known company. That to me is a reflection of inadequate promotion and advertising and not a reflection of the quality of the instrument. I would definitely recommend it.edwardsfynegoods
Let me start by saying FedEx lost my guitar. I filed a claim with them and let AMS know of the problem. AMS contacted FedEx as well. AMS advised they would replace the guitar but after 2 weeks my guitar mysteriously showed up. I cancelled the replacement order. AMS customer service is exemplary and I will order again. Thanks guys! Now about the guitar this is a beautiful instrument. I'm a Martin owner and this guitar nicely compliments my HD28V. Whether plugged in or unplugged the sound is awesome. This guitar doesn't have that Takamine tin sound that seems common with this brand. Playability compares to higher dollar guitars. The neck is smooth and easy to play. I've gotten several compliments on the looks of this guitar. No matter what level experience you have you won't be disappointed with this guitar!Tom
I absolutely love this guitar! I must say, I was a little skeptical purchasing a guitar before I played it, but I could not be more impressed. Two days after I placed my order, the guitar was on my porch. Thanks AMS! The guitar was packaged very securely. Once I pulled the guitar out of the box, I realized the pictures on the website did not do the beauty of this guitar justice. But, the sound of this guitar is even sweeter than it looks. The string action was much lower and better than I expected out of the box. This guitar is easy to play and makes a mediocre guitarist like me sound much better than I am. The onboard electronics and tuner are easy to use and definitely an added bonus. I think this guitar sounds and plays just as good, if not better, than much higher priced instruments. When I'm sitting at home, my go to guitar is my Martin 000-28. If that guitar is not in my hands then I have my gn75ce in my lap. This guitar was playable and set up well right out of the box. Good enough that it's not worth the money to take to luthier to have it dialed in. I don't use the electronics on this guitar so I can't comment on that. As far as everything else , this is a well-constructed durable mid-range priced guitar. I'm quite pleased that I purchased it. it makes a wonderful addition my collection. It's a beautiful looking axe. I would highly recommend this guitar to anybody just starting to learn how to play or somebody wanting to add to their collection without spending thousands of dollars.Matthew Topp

Open Box / Blemish – still can't find any blemish, maybe two tiny smudges on the back of the body, but with the satin finish they're hard to spot. The NEX body is comfortable and it really projects the sound. The action was way too high, even for a factory setup. But it was easy to get it lower and lock in the harmonics.Mike
The Takamine GN20 is a great guitar. The natural wood matte finish is handsome. It's a baby jumbo that gives you full quality projection, with beautifully balanced tone. The cedar top and mahagony back and sides provide a depth of tone, that makes the instrument sound wonderful in performance. Your hand fits easily around the slim neck and makes playing a real pleasure. To me, it feels like a vintage Ovation guitar. I've had mine for two years, and perform with it on weekends on a regular basis. It still looks like new. The price was easy to handle. Wait for the sale price, then buy this guitar. Extremely well made with quality woods (no laminates) that has a great sound (both amplified and unplugged). It does not have a large body and projection is somewhat limited when playing unplugged but has incredible sound both amplified and not amplified. Can be played quietly when everyone else has gone to sleep, or can flood the house with music if they're awake. The action and intonation on this guitar was fabulous right out of the box and I didn't have to make any setup adjustments. In the 30 years since, I have been trying to find a replacement, I tried various Ibanez and Yamaha guitars, but they didn't have what it took. Then, a couple of months ago, needing a brain break, I left work and took myself to the acoustic room at Sam Ash. There was another guy in there playing, so I looked for a quiet instrument, and took this one down off the wall. Immediately, I knew that it was special. The clarity of the tone, and the richness of the bass, it was all there. The other guy liked the sound too, and soon we were jamming and telling stories. Both of us tried other neoclassical guitars, and agreed that this one was best. I loved the guitar at first note, but when I looked at the price tag, I knew I could never own it. So I bought (online) a similar guitar, but it lacked the feel and sound of this one. My wife heard me playing, asked what I thought about the similar guitar I'd bought, and I explained that it wasn't the same. Then she told me to buy this one. So I did, And I have been playing it daily since then. The OO-18 is still with me and still gets some time, but right now my fingers itch to play and hear this one. Overall, I'd say that I'm very happy with the guitar. It plays well, and it sounds great. I had to tweak it a bit, though. It had a respectable amount of bow in the neck when I received it. I've torqued most of it out, but I have the truss rod tightened as far as I dare to. The action is still a bit high at the 12th fret, but I'll take care of that when I change out the strings. It sounds very chimey and bright with no bottom end at all, hopefully a beefier set of strings will help with that. Skinny frets, I wish they were a bit more robust. String spacing (between pairs) isn't consistent between the nut and the bridge, I may notch the bridge a bit to eliminate that. Otherwise, it's a beautifully built guitar and a great value for the price. You won't be disappointed.
I had a cheap 12 string guitar for about almost two years. I had been playing corridos during this time. However, I had played guitar for several years. Mainly rock and other stuff. Well, after I got it, I could play all the solos I couldn't really play clean. I guess the other guitar really was bad, or this one is great. Funny thing, I had a really good player tell me to not buy this model but the more expensive one. Well, I'm glad I decided to go with this one. This guitar sounds great and it's extremely easy to play. The guitar stays in tune fairly well for a 12 string guitar. The action is low. I haven't tried it the electronics aside from the tuner which works fairly well compared to my snark. I do have a Taylor and Martin guitar, and the tone on this guitar is pretty clean.Juan

I have not played in a band for a while, but getting back into practice and plan to start back with some solo acoustic gigs. I could not afford a Takamine Santa Fe model but I have 2 anyway. I love them both and the electronics are great sounding (Acoustic DSP AD-1). I do builds and repairs and have added a little to one of them that being turquoise I tumbled and polished then embedded around the soundhole. These are guitars you keep for your lifetime. I always advise players to leave a guitar in their stand so you will pick it up and play it a lot. Taylor guitar guys are crazy and leave them in cases in closets, that is no way to get better at playing and Taylors have thin tops that crack. Takamine (talk-uh-mee-nay) are built solid and worth every penny. NEVER leave weak batteries in the pre-amp and never leave them plugged in when not in use. Battery leaks will destroy the pre-amp.cravinbob
This guitar was set-up perfectly right out of the box. That has never happened before. I was fully expecting to have to do a little saddle and nut work, but nope. The action is perfect! Low and fast. The electronics are awesome. I play mainly through a PA system. Currently using a JBL PRX712 system through an Allen & Heath mixer through a TC Helicon VoiceLive3. The electronics allow you to tweak endlessly to achieve the sound you are looking for. Much more versatile than the Taylor Expression System (I have a Taylor 414CE). Unplugged, I give the edge to the Taylor…….plugged in….no comparison, the TSF48C kills it, and the action is better on the Takamine than the Taylor. I also have a Breedlove American C25/CRe-H fitted with the LR Baggs Anthem system. The Takamine provides much more control, and a more natural sound. There is nothing I can fault about this guitar. O.K. I have had the TSF48C for over six years now and I have no plans to depart from it. I play this Santa Fe mostly at Church for single songs on my Fender Acoustasonic Jr amp which sounds much better than the Church PA. The set-up remains low and smooth. Between this and my daily beater GJ72CE Tak I am set. The difference is that the Santa Fe is a milder tone and projection. The G body GJ72ce jumps out more and almost overrides the voice when playing alone, but in a group it holds it's own with anything out there.Dirt Dog

I've always been a fan of Takamine guitars. They play and sound amazing. I tried this one at my local Sam Ash and was blown away with how full and rich the tone was. I have been playing guitar for 15 years, and this guitar is very very nice. It has a great sound and it looks and feels fantastic. The look is more flat than other typical guitars that have a high gloss finish. The internal pickups sounds as good through an amp as it does acoustic. The only draw back is it feels a little heavy compared to some other acoustic electrics I have played. That being said it is not so drastic that it would bother most players. This is a good looking guitar that sounds great. It has just what I was looking for. It's an acoustic electric, which is what I wanted in the first place. The pre amp has a three band equalizer, volume control, etc. Second, it's a cutaway which allows access to the higher frets. Third, as a bonus it has a built in tuner. I did a lot of internet research on mid priced acoustic electrics and this guitar was on nearly every list. It had a minor blemish — and I do mean minor, so I got for a great price including a wooden hard shell case. You could spend three times as much for a Martin or Taylor, but I don't think you would much more for the money. Takamine is not a well known company. That to me is a reflection of inadequate promotion and advertising and not a reflection of the quality of the instrument. I would definitely recommend it.edwardsfynegoods
Let me start by saying FedEx lost my guitar. I filed a claim with them and let AMS know of the problem. AMS contacted FedEx as well. AMS advised they would replace the guitar but after 2 weeks my guitar mysteriously showed up. I cancelled the replacement order. AMS customer service is exemplary and I will order again. Thanks guys! Now about the guitar this is a beautiful instrument. I'm a Martin owner and this guitar nicely compliments my HD28V. Whether plugged in or unplugged the sound is awesome. This guitar doesn't have that Takamine tin sound that seems common with this brand. Playability compares to higher dollar guitars. The neck is smooth and easy to play. I've gotten several compliments on the looks of this guitar. No matter what level experience you have you won't be disappointed with this guitar!Tom
I absolutely love this guitar! I must say, I was a little skeptical purchasing a guitar before I played it, but I could not be more impressed. Two days after I placed my order, the guitar was on my porch. Thanks AMS! The guitar was packaged very securely. Once I pulled the guitar out of the box, I realized the pictures on the website did not do the beauty of this guitar justice. But, the sound of this guitar is even sweeter than it looks. The string action was much lower and better than I expected out of the box. This guitar is easy to play and makes a mediocre guitarist like me sound much better than I am. The onboard electronics and tuner are easy to use and definitely an added bonus. I think this guitar sounds and plays just as good, if not better, than much higher priced instruments. I would definitely recommend this guitar for beginners on up to experienced players.Andy

I recently played this guitar at a local music store. I'm a huge Eagles fan so as soon as I saw Glenn Frey's name on this guitar I had to try it out. It blew be away with the first chord I strummed. Amazing tone. I own a few acoustic guitars and I've played hundreds. This guitar sounds better than 99% of the acoustic guitars I've ever played. The tone is close to a Martin d-28 but with more clarity and bass response. This guitar would be great for flatpicking bluegrass. Just throw a SM57 in front of it and boom! Bluegrass cannon! Also a great finger picking guitar. Takamine has outdone themselves on this one. My next investment!
I own over 20 guitars, mostly electric. This Beautiful Takamine Glen Frey will replace my Gibson Songwriter . It has a better bottom end sound than the Gibson. I can't wait to try it out on stage. I was pleased at the high quality of this Japanese manufactured instrument. Very Happy with the purchase.0315julian
