Reviews:
Silk ans Steel strings seen to have less tension a smoother feel and sound mellow. I use them on my parlor guitar and they are plenty loud. I fell back in love with my parlor guitar after putting silk and steel strings on. I still use EXP17's on my dreadnought and different sizes on my electrics like heavy tops on my 335 and 10's on the tele and about to try 7's on my strat. I think guitars are all different and need strings that match the guitar and the style of your playing. I have no problem going from one gauge to another. Most of my practice is on the acoustic with the 13-56 tuned Eb, then when I pick up another guitar It seems to be faster and easier along with being more fun if that's possible. I love D'Addario strings sorry now spending so much money on trying other brands. I recommend trying D'Addario silk and steel on any folk/acoustic guitar first!Lewis
I'm no professional. I like to play around the house and I often do solo music in church. I tend to only play acoustic guitar because I love the sound. However, the 80/20's make me want to vomit both in sound and feel. These strings take anything you play and transform it into a smooth and beautiful piece of art. They feel wonderful, very soft but still very present. They sound so warm, but also articulate every sound. If the EJ40's ever get discontinued, I might just hang up my axe and stop chopping down tunes.JC_Broussard
I play finger style and bought the strings to cut down on or eliminate finger scraping noise; the packaging states "virtually no finger noise." The claim is not accurate. Whether with my fretting hand (left) or plucking hand (right), the strings are only slightly less noisy than any other round-wound strings I've ever played. The finger scrapes were louder than the finger scrape noise I'm still getting from D'Addario flat tops. I am replacing these strings with flat wound strings. The manufacturer's claim of "virtually no finger noise" was misleading and I wasted my time and money. I do not recommend these strings for fingerstyle play. For any other style of play, the strings are like any others and it is a matter of the tone you are looking for. These are mellow and easy to bend.

This is a great site for purchasing single good quality strings.I am used to buying full packs of strings and go through 4 packs a month. The majority of high st music shops no longer sell singles and this site is a great find for topping up strings that Im running low on.deanjudge09
This easy read is informative, comprehensive and entertaining. Being a Jazz guitarist and lover of the Gibson 175 this book fills in the gaps and shows the changes and progressions in design and style of this instrument. The book also highlights the players which have and are still making it an iconic Guitar. This is an interesting read for the curious as well as the seasoned session player. ENJOY!!!!!neck05

Reviews:
I've been a D'addario guy for a long time, and use them on all my guitars. I like the phosphor bronze tone on my acoustics, and use the extra lights because I have hand and finger joint issues. Actually 10s are pretty heavy for me, I use 8s on my electrics. Anyway, they sound great, are easy to play and have always been reliable for me.James
For years I refused to replace one of the low E machines on my Guild 12-string, as much on principle as anything else. I could only find a full set when I only needed one. The folks at Sam Ash knew my feeling and enthusiastically referred me back to the shop. Not only did I get a single machine, the price was more than right. Now I will be going back there not so much for their merchandise as for the people. That's where they put their investment.Mediaman.2
A friend of mine put light gauge electric strings on his acoustic guitar so it would be easier to play. I did like the feel but the sound was too thin so when I came across the Extra Light D'Addario's for acoustics I was excited to try them. My preferred style of playing an acoustic has recently become almost all finger-picking without finger picks. I tried them on my vintage classic dreadnought Yamaha F335ii and they sound good with a little less low end and a little more thin high end which you would expect. Also there is a tendency for the little E string to rattle as I use an upward stroke with the index or middle finger to play it. I will try switching that string out with a little higher gauge to alleviate that problem. Your style (light or heavy) of playing may determine whether these strings are right for you. They are great for strumming light rhythm with a balanced bright sound using a Fender thin pick so I would definitely use them for recording rhythm parts. For recording finger-picked parts I will continue using regular light gauge strings on a Martin. The D'Addario extra lights are easy on the fingers and good for practicing any style. They would also be a good choice for beginnersdhughe1

Eenie ball everlast strings are amazing for 3 weeks than they start going dead very rapidly and the treatment they put on them starts getting your fingers and turn them green. I prefer the earthwood strings from ernie ball because honestly they last just as long but cost half as much.tyrw21
I'm obsessed with archtops but am simultaneously cheap when it comes to strings. I hate buying them like i hate paying for parking or a bottle of water. It just seems like one of those recurring costs i am not happy about. So the cheap side of me loves the longevity of coated strings. The OCD musician in me loves the sound of coated strings because they sound consistent from when you put them on until when they die. I've tried probably ever brand of coated string for 10+ years and Ernie Ball makes the best ones. The Everlast specifically sound fantastic right out of the package. The enamel they use makes the strings really smooth and slightly slick (in a good way). Since i play archtops string choice can really be make or break with a guitar. Bronze can start to sound really clangy. It used to be that i would have a certain brand with a certain guitar. The Everlast were the first strings that i can put on all of my acoustic archtops and they all have a sweet sound. So the Everlast don't have that brassy overtone that can be a little too much with archtops. I love picking up each of my guitars for 5 minutes throughout the day because i know they will sound fresh and have a sweet tone. Everlast are totally worth the money and you will be rewarded with tone and longevity.polishbroadcast

I have tried alot of reso strings in search of the best.Jim Dunlop'resonator strings are probably the best so far.High quality phosphor bronze and well balanced. They come with an extra .018(B string)for adding a little more mass to the high D string. I tried the extra .018 and it's exactly what I've been looking for. .016' are kind of wimpy if you do alot of single string playing. I'm comparing these to D'Addario EJ42 reso strings. My usual preferance. I really like the Dunlops better. They seem a little heavier though the same guage.Just a really well made tonally rich set of strings.RANDAWG

Reviews:
I really like these guitar strings. They are thin and flexible yet produce a nice sustaining sound. Not too bright but not at all thuddy. A nice full sound for lightweight strings. Easy on the fingers, especially if I haven't been playing much for a week or two. They bend easily enough for the sound effect while not so bendable as to play out of tune if no bend is intended. THe sealed packaging they come in assures a nice untarnished surface thus a nice crisp sound, tempered slightly by the phosphor bronze finish which means a shorter break in period and a longer lasting clear tone. All in all these are the strings of choice for my Guild D-50 guitar. They are a perfect match. I have tried many different brands and versions of guitat strings over the years and I keep coming back to these D'Addario phospher bronze strings for the right sound and the longest life. They seem to last about twice as long as the other brands and don't require a long break in period like some do. I try to keep an extra set on hand since to sealed packaging keeps them fresh new sounding indeffinately.Softouch
These are different. Forget the corrosion resistivity for a minute. First and foremost: they just sound great! Tried them on an all mohogany acoustic electric guitar – pleasing, sweet tone- amplified or not. They feel wonderful, sensitive to nuances of touch. Unlike any of the coated strings I've tried- those always just felt and played like something was, you know; BETWEEN you and the guitar! It was annoying, distracting- unnatural. These strings have none of those characteristics. I have not had them long enough to comment on longevity, but will review again when I've had more time with them. Plan to try an electric set next for one of my other guitars. Well done, D'addario!Strum Bum
They are crisp and bright compared to other styles. My only critique is they don’t give you much to work with so not good for beginners. Otherwise I like them a lot. They're a little short but not enough that you can't use them. It's just means you can't mess up putting them on. I tried to add a video clip so you could hear the quality but for whatever reason I couldn't so you will just have to take my word for it. The sound they make is great.Candy
8. Thomastik Ac112 Plectrum Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings – Medium Light
Product Details:
At thomastik-infeld, they don't make any "all-purpose" guitar strings. instead, they build highly engineered, specialty products that fulfill specific needs. plectrum strings resonate with a warm, soft tone reminiscent of a classical guitar. they are specifically engineered for situations where a mellower sound is desired. plectrum strings also combine the use of flat and wound round technology to help reduce string tension, which can prolong the life of valuable vintage instruments. just like their fine orchestral strings, plectrums have a fabric or "silk" inlay between the core and the windings. this technology reduces "off-color" harmonics, by favoring the even-order harmonics that sound more complementary and musical. the treble strings are made of brass-plated steel, a costly method that extends string life significantly. austrian precision doesn't just mean engineering accuracy — it sounds good too!
Reviews:
I have reached a point (finally) in my playing where I feel tone is everything. I have been a recording artist for 20+ years. I perform live as well. I am not a fan of "Bright" strings, I prefer "smooth" strings. I like an equal eq response without have to tweek my eq to get great tone. Strings are such a preference thing. So that being said… I will tell you what I like about these strings, you pick your gauge and style. I am reviewing Thomastikd in general. I have used the flat wound 13's on my Guild starfire V. I have used the power brights on Gretsch 5238 projet, and the plectum bronse 12s on my Fender mohogany acoustic. I find these strings are easier to bend easier to play. Tonally exemplary. Fantastic strings that last. You pay way more. If that's not your thing? I recommend John pierce strings. ( although I have not played them, yet…) They fit the description of what I like. I have enjoyed Thomastik strings so much, I'm concerned anything else will leave me disappointed. Nuff said. Thanks for taking the time to read this wordy review. Its 100% honest.Dimension III Studios
The fourth and fifth strings are not flat round, they are round wound. Since the combination described is what caught my interest I was a little disappointed when the string package described the fourth and fifth string as wound round. Since they were the right gauge I went ahead and had the guitar set up for them. The tone is excellent, but they have the typical round wound squeak I wanted to stay away from. I play kind of a combination flat pick and finger style using a bumble bee thumb pick and am working on my chord melody technique. I was hoping for a nice tone when picking out a bass line without the squeak on the chord transitions. Since I usually use the fourth string in chords and frequently use the fifth I thought the combination described worth a try. While I doubt that I will buy these again my next set will likely George Benson flat wounds from the same brand. They are top quality stings, just not the ones for me.Womd
I was contemplating trying these strings for a long time and due to the price and local availability never seemed to get around to it until recently. Wow, I am sold and will continue to use these. Everything about these strings is far and above anything else I have played. I put a set on a J-45 Gibson and a set on a D-28 Martin. Both guitars are sounding and feeling better, (& they were already awesome !!). They feel like lighter strings than what they are and resonate wonderfully. Sold for life !!Chromatic

Reviews:
I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH). What's even better is all these new, attractive hybrid sets, allowing you to easily find your groove without having to get two packs for your ideal set! EB just keeps getting better.Guy lll

I use on my two prs se guitars that are on stands in my open basement in Ohio. Through humidity, cold and heat they stay in tune, clean up well when tarnished and remain snappy. I do moderate string bending (blues based riffing mostly) and even with non locking tuners these stay in tune. Been using for 3 years now.Roofdesign

I have been using Stingjoy string on my 3 Ibanez electric guitars and a 5 string Fender Jazz bass bass for a couple years now. I really cannot comment on the bass strings- I just do not change them often enough. The electric guitars on the other hand I change quite frequently. I have found that the Strinjoy strings make more and a broader sound 'acoustically'- that is with the guitar unplugged, and as I use low to medium output PUPS that 'acoustic' sound translates when plugged in. Over the years I have managed to get a handle on Floyd Rose double locking systems which can offer really solid tuning stability once you do learn how to manage them. With the Stringjoy strings the tuning stability on my FR guitars went from very good to ridiculously solid. Once the a new set of strings are settled in, If I stick to whole tone bends or < and nothing environmental intervenes, I can play 6 plus hours a day and be not need to tune, or if I do it is just to sharpen the high E and perhaps B string occasionally. The tuning stability coupled with the great sound and extended time the strings sound good has made Stringjoy strings my electric guitar strings of choice.Shaun F
This FiveStar review is really more of a projected rating. At the time I ordered the super balanced set, I also ordered a set of Broadways. They are beautiful strings – amazing tone and vibracy. Plus they’ve lasted 3 months- a LONG for all the bending I do. This may be partly because I also decided to use the StringJoy string conditioner, a product Ive always stayed away from. Stringjoys formula is awesome and most importantly safe for the guitar wood and finish (I ran a test on a couple beaters). I’m looking forward to trying the Balanced set- I’ve pieced sets together to get that combination- perfect for taming the loud G string on my Strat. It’s handy that StringJoy makes it so easy to customize your sets. I’ve also tried both of their acoustic strings, in various guages and they’ve all been top notch! Thanks StringJoy! If you’re on the fence about buying these strings, go for it! They are worth the few extra bucks- a nice sonic treat. One of my customers brought a set over to put on his guitar after a set up and Im glad he did- my favorite strings hands down! And I love supporting a local Nashville business.Noah G
These strings have been game-changers for me. They sound awesome on my electrics and acoustics; the custom sizing options make it easy for me to get the exact combo I want; they never break; and I really appreciate the individual packaging—no more fiddling around separating strings before you put them on. I cannot recommend these highly enough.James P

A colleague of mine turned me on to these, and in particular to this strange gauge of 9.5 – 44. I had struggled in the past with standard 9s on a guitar with high output pickups and a warble-happy whammy bar. I find these strings to handle really nicely, a perfect amount of slick and grip (finger contact) and they positively scream in my current configuration. I've put them on a guitar that I don't play live often, and I find that the strings don't deteriorate over time with the guitar being left in the case. This is very subjective and a question of personal chemistry. I mean, I've seen players go through a pack of the best "long-lasting" string on the market in one night, so it'll always come down to which material lends itself to your handling. Despite the price tag, I am not sorry that I've purchased those, and I just picked up a few more packs to tide me over the months of session work.Boyan P.
I have been using these strings for about a year now, when I had to drop down to 8 gauge strings due to carpal tunnel in my left hand. I wanted to go with a higher quality string since I would be using such a light gauge. The NYXL series does not disappoint. They are extremely flexible, stay in tune, last a really long time and they sound incredible. I had concerns that I would be sacrificing tone, but this has not been the case. Not only are the strings not aggravating my carpal tunnel, I'm enjoying the ease of playability and wicked vibrato and bends. I wish I had made the switch to these strings much sooner.Jon
This is the first time I tried these D'Addario NYXL strings. I got the nickel wound electric strings, regular light. I think these strings are one of the best I've used. I started playing guitar when I was very young so I've been playing for a lot of years. These nickel wound electric guitar strings are easy to play. The strings are nice on the fingers. Some strings make my finger tips get tuff, but tuff to the point that it affects the preasure I use on the strings. These nickel wound strings don't do that. I have had them on for some time now and none of them broke. I like the tone of the strings. It made tuning the guitar very easy after I strung it. There is something to say about having strings that are easy to string, tune, and have a great tone. If you are playing out some where and a string breaks you need to work kind of fast to get up and playing again. These strings do the trick.penny

I never get involved with commentary of products, but I feel obligated to say WOW, with Martins new Authentic Acoustic line of strings. Installed the PB variety on my 000-28ec, my Gibson sj200, and my Collings CJmh, in each case there was an immediate improvement in all areas of tone. Pardon the cliche', but in every way the guitars came to life. Great sustain, solid bass, and smooth bell like treble. I have tried many strings over the years, and yes there are differences, but never tothe degree I hear with these. A vast improvement in all areas, IMOP. Can't say how long they'll last, haven't had them on that long. Ther worth a try to any guitar out there. And I will always buy from Strings and Beyond. They have always been courteous, professional, ship quickly, and competitively priced. Thanks.Mark
For the last couple years, I’ve been comparing these Lifespan 12-54 against other coated phosphor-bronze sets: D’Addario EXP 12-53 & D’Addario XT 12-53 & D’Addario XS 12-53 & Elixir’s Light nano set. These Martin Lifespan strings have given me no issues, except that my low E string bridge pin doesn’t quite want to press all the way in (due to being cut for a 53 vs 54 gauge string). I didn’t think that small variation would matter, but it seems to! Even with the bridge pin slightly protruding higher than the others, these strings sound great and have lasted quite a long time without degrading in tone or feel. My pick eventually does cut up the coating, which visibly frays and starts to dull the string sound. But, this is after much time and use. I like the sound and feel of the strings, and will now be comparing them to the new D’Addario XS strings, which claim to survive picking better than any other string, while using a thinner coating. We shall see! At this time I can report that I like the Martin Lifespans fairly equally to D’Addario EXPs, which sound and respond better (in my experience) than Elixir’s comparable strings. I have not yet concluded my XT and XS testing to compare, but I expect them to perform as (or more) durably as these Lifespans. I anticipate the XS strings to sound and respond more like uncoated strings than the others listed above (including these Lifespans) while potentially surviving more punishment from my pointy Dunlop Primetone Flow plectrums! I’ll review the XS performance on that listing after finding the results. I have been pretty satisfied with these Lifespans, but not blown away in comparison to D’Addario’s coated offerings. They’re competitive and if you’re a Martin lover, these are an easy set-it-and-forget-it option that give a longer replacement cycle than Martin’s uncoated strings without sounding completely dull. You can get a still good low-end brassy growl on these until their coating starts to fray. However, you’ll definitely also want to try a set of D’Addario’s coated strings to pick a favorite based on their response with your own guitar, picking technique, and sound preferences. I found Lifespans to be pretty stable for intonation and gradually become less strident/bright in tone through use (wear at the picking location). D’Addario lights may have a touch less power (fundamental frequency) on the lowest string. They both respond well and sustain well on my guitar, with the D’Addarios remaining extremely stable with intonation. [For reference, the strings mentioned here were all installed on a very fine Larrivee LV-10 (sitka & EIT) built around year 2000. The guitar has a TON of rich mid-to-high overtone presence and excellent string-to-string balance with good dynamic range and sustain. Most strings sound pretty good on it, but the timbre does noticeably change with different strings. These changes in overtone prominence are difficult to express in a written review…. Larrivee calls for D’Addario 12-53 gauge phosphor bronze strings. Bridge pins are ebony (like the bridge).]Daniel
I've been using the treated version (MA540T) on my gigging axe (Martin GPC-28) for the past 3 years. With the relaxation of COVID restrictions, the gigs are picking up again. Consequently, between rehearsing and gigging I've been going through string sets a lot faster. I purchased a few sets of untreated (MA540) to assess how they held up in comparison. In my opinion the "extended" working lifespan of the treated strings is not significant enough to justify the added expense (almost double). I love the feel, and sweet, bell-like, tone of these untreated strings. They'll do nicely.
14. Elixir 16545 Acoustic Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb Guitar Strings Light 12-53 3-Pack
Product Details:
Not all guitar strings are created equal. even after just a few hours of play, dirt, sweat, skin oils and other debris will build up between the string's windings, causing corrosion in the metal. the result is a noticeable "deadening" of the string's tonal quality, which can happen very quickly with uncoated strings. elixir phosphor bronze strings begin with anti-rust plated plain steel strings that are corrosion resistant. they provide a clean feel and bright, vibrant tone. both the steel core and its phosphor bronze winding are then treated with elixir's patented nanoweb thin polymer coating that completely envelops the entire string. this results in a long-lasting, rich tone with more audible high-frequency harmonics. the ultra-thin nanoweb gives you the natural feel of untreated strings without sacrificing that important protection. this revolutionary product is a great value, as it means a dynamic and lively sound with less frequent string changes and fewer string purchases.

These are outstanding strings. For many years I held off using them because of the relatively high price. I had read and heard the general narrative about how much better they felt and how much longer they lasted than conventional strings. I recently purchased a nice mahogany Taylor and it had a factory set of Elixirs on the guitar. Anyway, tired of the "grungy," tacky feel that my strings would often have after only one gig, I tried the Elixirs. I'm now an Elixir convert. They feel terrific, even after 3 or four gigs. Musician's Friend is a great place to buy these. Fast, free shipping and a really easy, no-brainer purchase now that I understand what all the fuss is about. Buy these and you'll not regret it.Billy The Kid
When you play guitar outside, your strings decay pretty quickly, unless you've got coated strings for protection. The coating on most coated strings get frayed and buzzy too quickly. A set of Elixirs will last three or four weeks of daily outdoor playing, and virtually never break. I can't imagine how long they'd last if I only played indoors!whowhatwhywhenwherehow
These are a bit pricy, but if you can afford them, I recommend them. To me, the advantages are 1) they last longer before the intonation goes sour and the treble starts to decay 2) they are quieter, meaning less string/finger squeak 3) they seem extremely uniform and predictable. No hot, dull or buzzy strings out of the box, or bad ball end wraps, which I've experienced using other brands.55music

Definitely the best strings at the price point lately. They have a thinner or smoother wind than Ernie Ball slinkys or Daddarrio exl and this results in less finger noise and a zingier tone IMO. I'm into clean and classic rock, and I doubt you would like these over the former two names if you were into more modern and metal sounds. It depends on the guitar for me, on my strat I could use just about any strings. My guitars with humbuckers seem more picky, at least to my ears. I prefer these over the other two as far as cheap strings go, and these are often cheaper. Win win. Used to be I would never have preferred Fender strings so either my tastes are changing or these strings have changed over the years.Joelish
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. Years of use have proved quality. I put them on my Jazz bass, my PJ, and my Squire, have used them on Samick, Music man, OLP, and Epiphone basses, all good.Scott
According to a Fender rep, these are what came on the Fender PJ bass I ordered from Musician's Friend. They produce the classic Fender tone I wanted. I eventually replaced them with a set of Fender 7250L (.040, .060, .080, .100) to make it easier to play on the guitar's 9.5" fingerboard radius. I stayed with Fender because of the tone that the 7250M strings produce. The Light's have slightly less oomph on the low end, yet all the tone while the lighter gauge makes for nice melodic work on the high end of things. If you have a Fender bass and want Fender tone…Vice

I played D'addario strings for the first 10 years I played guitar, then about 4 years ago I decided to take a shot at making a custom gauge set specifically for my guitar. Ernie ball strings are easier to find individually so I changed brands. I can't even begin to describe how much of a difference it makes having consistently ascending string tensions across the fretboard on my 7-string (~21 lbs at low end to ~13 lbs at high end) especially for fast players. Sweeps and arpeggios immediately feel more natural. My 7-string is currently tuned to drop G (d,A,F,C,g,D,G). With a 25.5" scale the best gauges are .010,.014,.019,.028,.039,.056, and .074 if you want a good middle ground between tight strings and bendability. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.Cameron
I have a Jackson that has single-coil pickups in the middle/neck position. The guitar is in standard D and I use the 10-52 Ernie Ball set. The 17 gauge G string always sounded a bit weird on the neck pickup. After hours of googling and youtubing I found out that this is rather common on unwound strings (esp. the G). Switching to the wound 18-gauge string was all I needed to cure this problem. It makes it quite a bit harder to bend the string though.Mike

Love these strings worth every penny. . Hendrix guitar tech knew his s*** when he installed these is all I can say . . Roger I believe was his name . .the G string is the main difference that gets you the right sound with the reverse headstock and reverse slant pickup on the Hendrix Stratocaster .. highly recommend this upgrade to any strat as they work great on my 2011 corona california made standard strat with mojotone pickups also that has the smaller normal headstock as well
I bought my first set of these because of the novelty. I bought many more because these are the only strings I want to use now. If I can't find them I replicate the gauges with single strings- but don't do this, buy the Fender strings. I mean, $5? Buy a case. Keep these available! These strings produce a balanced tone. Which is an incredible sound. Complicated chord voicings ring through with clarity (overdrive). I was immediately reminded of Ty Tabor's beautiful 'wall of tone' sound, filling a wide spectrum with rich, tight timbres. Users of short scale guitars– tired of the low E string flapping around like a rubber band and rattling all over the place? Try these strings. The low E is much thinner than most sets but doesn't lose any beef (IMHO).I'm not old, I'm Vintage.
These strings are awesome, not because of Jimi or the Voodoo thing but because for many years Fender stopped making this gauge. They were called 150 silver bullets back then and were my string of choice that became unavailable. Old sets were usually lightly corroded and unusable. Fender fixed that by finally corrosion proofing the packaging. Originally I bought these to use on my Fender Telecaster but these are now on my Les Paul, Stratocaster and my Epi. the price point made me try them, the feel and sound will keep me using them.warloc_frazmtn

Tried these Flex Core Strings on my L-00. No huge difference with the regular M540 strings I usually use on my acoustics. These FX strings are slightly more flexible which is most noticeable when pushing and pulling but I experience no profit while fretting (bar) chords. At this point the new FX set has not been played in, but they tend to sound slightly less bright than a regular new M540 set. Cannot say yet how this will develop once played in thoroughly but I hope they will keep this brightness all the way.

These are great strings be not for everyone. They are different in that they aid the upper register of vocals. I've put them on a 00-27 and a J 200; tow very different guitars. The affect is magical for those musicians who want a harp-like tone from their steel strung axe. They have an interesting configuration. From e to E; 12, 16,12,16, 23 W, 30 W. The result is crisp, clear highs and rich lows. These strings are different, but wonderful.goeller2006
I have tried countless strings over the years, and these John Pearse strings are fantastic! You name it, I've tried it. Everything from D'Addario, Elixer, Martin, Gibson, DR, Cleartone and even Dean Markley. Cheap and expensive, I have tried them. All I can say is that these are the best acoustic strings I have tried to date. I just went from a set of Elixers (which I thought were expensive, but good) to these, and these strings won out hands down. As soon as I installed these, my guitar absolutely came ALIVE! It was almost like night and day. Everything was better! Immediately what I noticed was the added volume and projection I was getting, but most of all, it was the tone that absolutely sold me on these. With these strings I heard more woodiness, percussive body, clarity, string to string definition, harmonic overtones, and resonance than any other acoustic strings I have heard to date. The top end also opened up and became even more tactile and transparent. These strings are just more organic, yet highly defined and less sterile than anything else I have heard, and they also have a very balanced output from string to string that is excellent. In no small measure, these strings have been a bit of a revelation. These strings are also very smooth, and I also noticed less finger noise between fretting notes and bar chords as well. However, regarding that smoothness, I also noticed something interesting as well. Just try to follow me with this: These are the first set of John Pearse strings I have ever installed, so I don't know if this is a "one off", but as smooth as they are, I also noticed that the unwound strings have an ever so slightly uneven and wavy finish to them in spots when you shine them in the light. I don't mention this as a negative IN ANY WAY, but just purely as an observation. Besides, I could care less because they sound so darn amazing. Anyway, my point of mentioning this (and this is based purely on conjecture), is I wonder if the barely perceptible finish inconsistencies contribute to the overall tonality of these strings? TBH, I have never seen strings that had this kind of "inconsistency" to their finish before, and I am wondering if this has anything to do with the great tonality of these strings? All the other strings I have bought over the years have been extremely smooth and consistent in their diameter and finish. Again, I don't mention this as a negative in any way because you never feel this while playing in the least. The only time I noticed it was when I looked at them under direct light. These strings sound fantastic, and obviously their specific alloy and construction plays a great part to their sound, but on the other hand, I have never seen strings with this kind of finish before, and yet I have also never been so excited about a set of strings before either. There has to be something to it. The only other thing I can mention is that these strings also have excellent string life as well. I have had these on my acoustic after about a month and a half of use, and they still sound fantastic! Anyway, all I can say is that I have tried A LOT of strings, and these ones are the standouts by far. Buy with confidence. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Peace. 🙂Eywa Dude
Had a pesky b and e string on short scale 000. Solution was it wanted more tension to ring true. The 13 and 18 did it; short scale so they play like lighter strings! The 22w g is awesome, the rest balance nicely. 52 is lite for E but not much of a sacrifice; drop D tuning still do-able. SO HAPPYJohn
