Reviews:
This guitar is the epitome of world class craftsmanship. Every single detail is attended to with pristine precision. The playability is unmatched and quality unsurpassed. I own many quality guitars ESP Japan made, Gibson USA made. But there is just something special that makes me only want to play this guitar. Well done Ibanez this will be a lifelong keeper. Better then I could imagined or expected and I expected a LOT at this price point. Did not disappoint. I purchased the stallion white and it is breath taking in person. It has a pearlesque look which I love. If you are on the fence don't hesitate you will not be disappointed. This is top notch quality in every way and don't know how it could get better. A+++++Joe
I dreamed of having a guitar like this after seeing a cased Ibanez Jem about twenty years ago. Words cannot describe the disappointment I experienced after finally having them money to get something like this only to have received a dud. I bought this because the Pia looked so much more dignified than the Jem. I was excited to play this after reading so much about how Ibanez uses the highest levels of craftsmanship and standards for their top of the line guitars. Unfortunately, I'm afraid they've lost credibility with me. Here's why: – The frets were so sharp that I worried if cut myself. – The whammy bars (it came with two) were not tightly fit into its tremolo. They would make a clicking sound as they loosely rocked back and forth using some vibrato. – One area of the guitar was not finished being painted (or so it appeared). – The body was not smoothly sanded down as I could visibly see imperfections in the wood as light shined on the paint. I ended up finding another person on YouTube doing a review who experienced the same problem with the whammy bars along with some other issues. I wish so badly this guitar would have been the last I would have ever purchased.David
It is a great privilege to leave the 1st review for this guitar at Guitar Center. It is my 1st personal review at guitar center as well. First, it is a little surprising to see this review will be the 1st since this guitar has been released for half a year. But whoever reads this, right now is 2020, the pandemic year, and we do not know how soon this is going to end, maybe next spring, maybe even longer. Probably that is the reason. Please let us remember this difficult time that many people lost their lives, many people got laid off, we might get another recession… I am a Steve Vai fan, I made this impulse buy at this difficult time, but not regretting it. The PIA is fantastic, absolutely the best guitar I have ever played so far, although I handed on a few more expensive ones. I compare it with Farreri. It is just smooth on every cover of the guitar. Fingerboard and neck are just gorgeous. Frets are stunning. If I use one word to describe PIA, it is going to be "Harmony". Handsome but beautiful, energetic but soft, Yin and Yang. It is very light, but still holds a decent amount of weight (not as light as the Herman Li's guitar, that one is a little too light from my point of view). The newly designed Dimarzio Utopia pickups, together with the pickups covers are sweet and beautiful. It is interesting they named it Utopia, as the ideal society, but also like U to Pia, maybe it is part of the reason for the name of this guitar.Zens Tone

I wish I had purchased this a long time ago. It was a champ right out of the box. This is one of the very few times in 50 years of buying guitars that I actually purchased an instrument and not a project. I’m amazed at how well it was set up to rock from the get-go. AMS must take great care of their stock because this was perfection in a box when i got it. Crisp and clean, aesthetically astounding. The sound encompasses everything I look for but i got it in this one guitar. Rough and rugged tones for grinding out ripping leads, sweet mellow tones for ambient music, unmatchable warm and hot tones for clean country and soothing jazz. You just cannot beat this guitar in quality and sound in this price range! You gotta get one of these!DC Collins
I’ve read almost every single review on this model and the overall take was hit or miss. Well I musta lucked out because this thing plays great! I had no paint blemishes, was smooth around the monkey grip, frets level, neck relatively straight and after a home set up, twice oiling the fretboard, with a fresh set of Super Slinky’s dropped down half a step she was solid. Tremolo unit not as bad as I had read or expected. The bar will get loose after use but I’ve got it holding tune very well. You can’t pull the bar up like the big brother Jems without an almost immediate fret out and the obvious answer is raise the bridge but then the action is too high to enjoy playing. Pickups are really decent. They clean up well. Was probably the main factor over the White or Black. The White Jr just looked and felt plain in comparison. After owning a JEM7v and playing a thousand gigs on it this is a nice little reminder of what fun that was!Ryan
Purchased in Westminster, CA Sam Ash store. Had a hard time locating these in SoCal stores. Their online store said it was in their inventory, but it was not on display. Bryan, my sales rep, located the guitar and setup and tuned as quickly as possible. He located an amp to suit my style and plugged me in. He was very attentative, well spoken and enthusiastic – asking questions that were very helpful. Big shout out to Bryan for all his heolp and personability. This Jem Jr in Pink acheived all the tones I was looking for in one guitar from clean to shred. Pretty sturdy and stayed in tune quite well even after thrashing the trem bar to see if I could get a string to break. No fret edges, though the fretboard was dry (oiled then neck at home). No scratchy pots or finish issues. The weight was pleasant and easy to carry around. Got a great deal from Sam Ash and their service was good and meaningful and I left with a sense of a solid purchase. Will visit this store again and I recommend the Jem Jr if you can't afford the upper end Jem guitars.BaconFire

Reviews:
Got great reviews. Looks great but it ends there. A pro musician wouldn't play this onstage. The p'ups suck and the guitar sounds cheap. There are RG's out there for much less that sound as good or better. I bought it because of the reviews but I now get the feeling the reviewers are probably intermediate guitarists. For the price it's pretty guitar but just doesn't have the electronics to match the cosmetics. You can review something for quality / price. Remove the cosmetics and you have a B level instrument that doesn't stay in tune. MF had a Fender MIM on the Stupid deal the other day for under the price of this one. That is twice the guitar this is and is really on the level of a Squire. Sorry my opinion is different from the other reviewers but owning many good expensive and cheaper guitars gives me something to compare it to. It's just not worth the price. Save your money. There are other guitars at the same price that are much better.Jerry A
READ FOR YOUR OWN GOOD: The day I bought this beautiful was on my birthday in late May. I took it home immediately, tuned it, and then started playing it. The pickups on the guitar were extremely bright, and didn't match my tone or style of playing at all. At the time, I figured it was the amp tone I was using. But over time, after trying many different tone setups I realized that The pickups sounded like garbage. Also the guitar would not stay in tune, even with the double locking tremolo and also had fret buzz. I found temporary solutions to these problems but they kept coming back. At the time of writing this, I have had the JEM for a month, and more problems keep developing. For example, the hole where the tremolo arm is placed keeps becoming loose and wobbly, no matter how many times I tighten it. I and most other people would have high expectations for a Steve Vai, or anyother signature edition guitar, and this thing turned out to be trash. I highly recommend not buying this guitar and instead, if you can afford it, buy an EVH Wolfgang Standard. It is a much higher quality instrument, and sounds a lot better. I am definitely returning my JEM ASAP, and hopefully finding a better guitar.A Person Trying To Help You
I've read a few negative comments here on the Jem Jr. Seems to be written by people who paid 400-500 for this but expected it to be some "miracle" axe that made them play like Vai himself or something. Everyone needs to remember this is basically a RG450 with a few changes. Obviously, the monkey grip and inlays are the only real difference everything else is basically the same. So you pay about 100 bucks more for the monkey grip, tree of life inlay and the lions claw tremolo cavity. That's the only difference here. I've owned the 450dx and I loved it. I saw someone said the neck was "cheap" it's a Wizard 3, just like almost all mid level Ibanez super strats. Also saw some say it felt "Cheap". Not sure why that would be. Considering it's a mahagony body, it has a pickguard and under it,its routered out quite a bit for the electronics, but that's with all IBanez w/ pickguards. Others complained about fret buzz, knobs being stiff to turn etc. Folks.. quit going buying guitars and rushing home thinking you're the guitar is ready for a sold out arena. it's not. You have to get them set up first! It doesn't take much, if you don't know exactly how, pay the guy at the counter a few extra bucks to set it up, you'll be thankful you did. Oh and the quantum pups for me are a more solid set of pups than the infinities. But if you want it to have a great sound and tone, take it to a shop and put in a set of seymours or Dimarzio's not a big deal. This is a solid guitar with Vai's cosmetics and a very affordable price. What more do people want?rt73

Reviews:
I love this GUITAR, because it is the same color as my favorite car, I've ever owned. More importantly, is the sound that came along with this beauty. The feel of the Guitar action is stupendous. I say this, because my fingering of the notes, or chords changes are effortlessly completed. The tone of the Ibanez JEM77P is shocking even in the most less expensive amplifier. To be specific, quality sound in a cheap practice amp. Prior to getting my HEADRUSH Pedal Board and Cabinet, I was playing through a $25 10 Watts Practice Amplifier. The sound, I must say again gave me more faith in buying this and more of the JEM7 Guitars, mainly because of the quality sound from playing through a practice amp. Crisp, distinct sound. When playing through my new HEADRUSH Pedal Board and Cabinet from AMS I was floored by the superb sound. I have played JEM77P through my buddies amplifier that is 150 Watts. The sound was breath taking, compared to his guitars non-favorable sound with same settings. WOW!Lovin It
Needs lots of setup. All the tuners post nuts were loose and rattling and needed to be tightened, definitely a QC issue. Action was really no where near shredabilty. Also white dust under the pickguard which is a little unsightly due to the clear acrylic used. Probably not for a newby unless you “know a guy“ or want to pay to get a setup. All that said with proper set up and tweaks it’s a pretty good guitar that stays in tune, sounds good, looks great and plays really good. I’m gonna keep it.JoeyP
In the 90's, I owned the black floral Jem. Everything about it was amazing. The sound, the feel, the way my fingers would literally bounce from note to note. It was the best guitar I ever owned. Like most musicians, I had to sell it to pay bills at some point. I saw this guitar and thought it would be a reasonable replacement. It was not. The tension feels tight. The pickups sound very "stock." The jumbo frets don't feel very jumbo. I have an Ibanez that I bought for $199.99 back in February that plays way better. I feel like the cost of this thing is based purely on the finish, the grip, and the artist it represents.Grumpy Old Man
5. Ibanez Jemjr-Wh Steve Vai Signature With Jatoba Fretboard White
Product Details:
The ibanez jem has been the mainstay of steve vai's sound for decades, with its distinctive looks, super low action and monster tone, it's easy to see why the original shred master himself loves these guitars so much. the jemjr in white takes the original jem design and puts it in a more affordable package. with a mahogany body the jemjr has rich tones and great sustain, and with the signature steve vai monkey grip you have something to grab hold of when you shred to the extreme! the wizard iii maple neck is exactly what ibanez are known for, with its thin profile you can shred for days. the rosewood fingerboard is just amazing and features the signature tree of life inlay that makes the jem so special. loaded with a trio of quantum pickups in the traditional h/s/h configuration, the jemjr delivers all the crushing, soaring vai-esque tones you could ever want! they are really well rounded and organic but still pack a killer punch. the jemjr is a great way to get that signature steve vai sound without breaking the bank, it's an incredible guitar at an incredible price!

The photos do not do this finish justice! The finish is way more 3D and the metalflake finish is awesome! Great playability and incredible Lukather tones! Over the moon – Thanks Sweetwater! Cliff was my sales rep. [x1784] He was also great! Kept me in the loop about the guitar arriving from Ernie Ball and when I could expect it. Great deal on an AMAZING Guitar
Sound: Amazing. No cap. This guitar sings. Features: Roasted flame maple neck looks and feels dreamy. Ease of Use: You would he hard pressed to make a bad sound on this guitar. Quality: EBMM leads the industry in quality, fit, and finish. This is no exception. Value: I’ve never played a better guitar at any price point. The Wow Factor: I would rate this 11 out of 10. Overall: May be the best guitar in production. The new pickups are absolutely beautiful, and good for everything but the most extreme styles. I’ve never played a guitar that sounded so nice. I can put it on the neck pickup clean and fire up the boost, and it sounds like a jazz box. The bridge is the only bridge pickup I’ve ever really liked. It clear and dynamic, but no harshness. The guitar is super comfortable to boot. I was really worried I might not like the v neck, but somehow it fits like a glove. Probably the best feeling neck I’ve ever felt. To top everything off…. It was set up perfectly, and in tune in the box.Jonathan
I've had this guitar a few months now and it is a really good guitar. It is manufactured with quality in mind. There were no blemishes or quality issues when it arrived. It does come with Ernie Ball strings, which I have never been a fan of. I changed the strings right away. It is pretty lightweight (especially when compared to a Les Paul) and really does come across as a LP/Strat hybrid. There is a five or six position switch for the different pickup configurations, but I really only care for two fo them. I guess that would be dependent on what style of music you are playing. One knock that I have is that when using the tremolo, it does tend to go out of tune a bit. I don't use tremolo much, so I can live with that. The neck plays really fast and it is a great looker. Ernie Ball doesn't have a custom shop, but their guitars can compete with any brand out there. You won't be disappointed.Terry S

So much guitar for that price. This guitar plays ridiculously well, it literally sings!! So happy to own this guitar!!Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
As a budget copy of the Steve Vai instrument this guitar has a lot going for it i.e. decent inlay work, high output pickups (not DiMArzio I think), great feeling neck and a mahogany body. There have been cost cutting measures however, but nothing that can't be fixed if you know what you're doing i.e. the fingerboard was dry and needed oiling, the truss rod needed adjusting, the frets levelling and polishing (they had not been finished properly and string bends were like rubbing the strings on sandpaper) and the tremolo claw tension needed adjusting. Once done however, the default action is low and it goads you into legato runs, sweeps and all those other fast techniques. I've made my own pearloid scratchplate and truss rod cover on my CMC router to replace the bland white one and hopefully the missing truss rod arrives soon… The TL:DR – a great budget instrument, but needs setup and neck work to get the best out of it.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Don't think just buy this is my first 7 string and it's flawless. This is my 3rd premium Ibanez and won't be the last.gearhoarder
I used to own a 1990 Ibanez Universe 77MC 7 string guitar and I loved the way that guitar played. It had a nice feeling neck and the Edge Low-Pro bridge worked great. Not to mention, it was a bad-ass looking guitar! Multi-colored swirl by Darren Johansen, 3-color disappearing pyramid inlay, Edge Low-Pro tremolo with cosmo black hardware (see photos for comparison). I mention all that because I regret to say I sold that guitar and was missing my Ibanez Universe. So, I decided to buy another one that wouldn't soak my finances and bought a new Ibanez Universe UV70PBK Green Dot 7 string guitar. There are significant differences in the feel and playability compared to the original's. The UV70P's have a finish on the neck's almost like a clear coat varnish which seems to be a standard on the Ibanez Premium line of guitars. The original's didn't. They were more like a light tung oil finish. I do have to say, that the necks on the Premium line are designed to be a lot more sturdy than the original's, which is a good thing. The UV70P's have the new Edge-Zero II-7 bridge which doesn't have the same feel and response as the Edge Low-Pro. Supposedly the same basswood body, but they seem much lighter in weight that the original's. The pick-up's are the same, but the tone is just not quite thesame as well. And of course, another obvious difference is the the original's were made in Japan and the reissues are made in Indonesia which determines the quality somewhat. Don't get me wrong, these reissue's are still a good quality guitar, but once having an original Universe you can tell the difference in craftsmanship. I will probably keep my UV70PBK just so I can have a 7 string guitar again and it is a bad-ass looking guitar, but I will always regret selling my 1990 Universe 77MC which was for me, the Ultimate Universe!!!designrol

Reviews:
I've wanted a Vai signature guitar for 20 years; however, haven't wanted to spend the money. I've played prestige models and loved them. When I read reviews and saw the price, I decided to splurge and pick one up. This model looks great. There are complaints about paint finishing detail in jack and recesses in other reviews. Fortunately, my instrument is perfect with flawless paint throughout. The instrument feels exactly like a prestige model to me. The neck radius is different by specifications, but I cannot detect a difference. The tone matches more expensive models as well (same pick-ups and electronics). With pick-ups this hot, bass wood (as opposed to alder on higher end jems) doesn't seem to have any adverse effects on tonal quality.j-rod
Ever since this guitar was announced, I've been looking forward to playing it. Finally got a chance to and I have to say, this guitar is great. I got to sit down for a few hours and switch between this and a Jem7wh and I have to say that tone wise, they were almost identical. Yes there were subtle differences because the body is basswood and not alder but really the tones were very close. If you have never had a chance to play on the original edge, it really is an amazing trem system and makes playing it a real joy. The neck is definitely different from the necks on MIJ Jems. It is thicker but not necessarily worse, just different. Aesthetics-wise, the color looks great (if you are into seafoam green) and the fretwork looks amazing. The rosewood on the neck is definitely not as dark and the grains are not as tight as a MIJ Jem, but still look good. The only bad things to say is that the paint around the jack can be missing/cracked and a few extra drips of paint around the monkey grip are apparent on the specific one i was playing on. Overall, I have to say that for what it cost, it definitely is a great guitar and a great Jem on a budget. If you are thinking about buying it I highly recommend it!Dachesky
Played guitar for less than an hour and new I made a big mistake. fret buzz and fretting out on first three strings from 7th fret up. Significant volume loss on middle pick up. Nut is off center leaving the high E string almost impossible to play without string coming off neck. I would expect this from a cheap guitar but not a signature model. live and learn. They made me select at least one star. MINUS 5 stars is more like itKG

the neck wasn't leveled the frets were sharp on the edges, the six string neck set up higher than the 12. the electronics were cheap and micro-phonic. either neck didn't seem to have a finish on them. even as a beginning guitar it wouldn't be good without a lot of work.harrisonguitars08
This guitar is very nice in appearance but the playability is a bit lacking. The tuning keys on the 12 string were stiff and binding. The volume knob for the 12 string had a wiring problem. when I would turn the volume up,(10) for the 12 string the 6 string volume would be down quite a bit. So when I switched to the 6 string I had to put the volume knob on 8 for the 12 string to get full volume for the 6. I keep all my volume knobs on 10 and adjust my overall volume from the amp. There's supposed to be separate volume knobs for this guitar but like I said there was some kinda wiring glitch. Other then this it was very nice and the sound was exceptional.merw.tom

I have all three 2018 Jem Jr's (white, yellow, pink) and I have noticed a lot of sellers are posting the same specks for all three juniors and that is not correct, The Yellow and Pink come with Infinity and the White comes with Quantum. The Infinity has way better tone and sustain. There is not a single picture on the internet of the Yellow or Pink that does them any justice, they are absolutely stunning in person especially the Pink. Unlike the White Junior Ibanez only made so many of the Yellow and Pink and when they are gone the price for one will be over a grand so just buy one now.tommywah
