The Squier Bronco Bass delivers exactly what I expected. It's a 30" scale bass with a body shaped like the Fender Mustang bass; it has a single pickup (I believe it's a strat pickup), is fairly light weight (mine weighs in a 7 pounds 10 ounces), and it's a fun little axe. It's also the lowest-priced bass by an actual musical instrument company. How do they keep the price down? One way is that this is the only bass I've owned that has no fingerboard. It doesn't affect anything, but the front of the neck IS the fingerboard. The hardware is okay quality. But here's the thing – it sounds decent, feels great, plays well. There's going to be a little luck of the draw in a lower priced instrument, but my tuners stay in tune, intonation was on, everything is good. There was a little too much neck relief, but that was easy to adjust. If you're realistic about your expectations, the Squier Bronco Bass is an awesome value, looks good, and it gets you playing. It's not going to sound like a Stingray or a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, but it doesn't sound bad, either – I would do a show with one without worrying about it. I have other basses, but wanted to add an inexpensive short scale to my stable, and this bass was exactly what I wanted. I may upgrade the pickup later – I may not. For now, it falls between my 34" scale and 28.6" scale basses, and it's fun to play. I'm very happy with it.Pcake
I ended up using this bass for songs where long scale can be a bit difficult. My main bass is an imported '54 P Bass copy, Alder body and maple neck/fingerboard. It had to go into a local shop for some major nut repair, and I needed something to play around with. Off the rack, it was a pretty great bass for the price. The neck is very well crafted, no sharp fret edges like some imported instruments. It's an agathis body, so the tone can be kind of bland, but compared to older Squier Broncos, it seems that all of the bridge and neck contact one piece of wood on the multi-piece construction, so sustain isn't too bad. The bad: The tuners are pretty sorry and are an oddball size, which makes replacement with good tuners very difficult. My E and A tuners rattle some, but all four do hold tune pretty well for cheap tuners. Also, the stock pickup is a six-pole ceramic Strat pickup, so it can sound…odd when bending strings. The other bad is the bridge: although it intonates pretty well, two saddles can make proper intonation difficult to achieve along with proper radius. Also, the bridge mounting pattern is almost impossible to replace with another bridge–four hole lock-down and quick-release style bridges DO work, but the bridge is mounted a little too far forward, and intonation is almost always sharp on the upper end of the fingerboard. Gotoh 201's are also very difficult to adapt to fit. But for its price point, some of these cons are easily fixed. I have a Mojotone Alnico V lipstick Strat pickup in mine with CTS 500K pots. It sounds excellent–it fools some of my buddies about how cheap it is. This bass could probably also benefit from a bar retainer near the nut. my dad, a professional and extremely experienced bass guitarist, bought me this for christmas last year, and i love it. this is the first bass i've ever picked up and it's easy to play, is well built, has a nice feel to it, etc. i highly recommend it for beginners. i play it in my school band class and it fits in very well with the rest of the instruments. however it can fall out of tune easily and the pickup isn't the best, but ultimately it's the most perfect beginner bassout there, especially for the low price, it's high qualityace

As the headline says…it's very enjoyable to play. I've even made several recordings using it instead of my Fender USA Pro 2 Precision. It does a decent job on the P pickup; the J has lower output. To my surprise I'm really digging the "raw" feel of the neck; it's bare, tho sanded well. Another surprise: neck profile width and taper is like a J bass, yet the depth/shape feels more like a P! Huh!? Hey, works for me! With its black body and pickguard and the maple fingerboard it looks like it means BUSINESS! Point removed for the too-stiff tuner action. And then…I've managed to get the action very low, just where I like it. (FWIW, even on my USA Pro 2 I had to shim the neck to be able to get the level of low action that I prefer.) Yes, ladies n gentleman, I really appreciate this Affinity PJ. I am considering using it for punk and classic rock parts of the band's gigs; not out of the question at all!Leo

This is one of the best 5 string necks I've felt. Less pizza shaped than the EHB but almost that good. Could have been nice to see a heavier finish on the fretboard but the edges are rolled with no sharp frets at all – unlike my cv 70s P. Sound on this Destroys the EHB and my sr505. Can't say how road worthy the pots and tuners are but I don't want to change anything and mess with this mojo. Unless you need silent pickups and can live with the tradeoffs. I don't know what you would need other than maybe a beefier jack. Setup was mind blowing. Literally took it out of the box in store. Got home, string height was dialed, haven't checked intonation yet but sounds fine. Was hardly even out of tune. Strings feel quality, I will probably even hold off changing those. This bass is making a lot of basses look and sound like questionable decisions. If you are worried about durability, honesty, get a good hard case. This thing feels plenty solid. Make sure the tuners and string trees are greased up and jam away.Arturo
I got mine in Black body, black pickguard, maple neck with maple fingerboard, It came with good setup right out of the box, I like the headstock's face with large "Precision Bass" 70's style logo, with gloss tint on it. The maple neck is one piece neck. I have other Affinities basses but this one sounds terrific, a lot of growl sound on P pickups , I like the P sound but also the J pickup is welcome. I always like this combination: black on black with maple fingerboard. I recommend this bass, Squier is getting better and better with the years. The only complain with this is that the Jazz Pickup is less sounding than the P bass pickup, I needed to rise the Jazz pickup to get better output but not the same output than the Precision pickup.Garedot

Great bass guitar, I had a copy of a P bass from 'G4M' & was'nt that happy with it. I have a Squire Telecaster which is very well made & sounds excellent so I went for the Squire Jass bass & I hav'nt been disappointed, again well made & no setting up require, stays in tune & is a pleasure to play. Being part of Fender certainly sets the bar high for these Squire guitars & I recommend them, so do lots of more experienced musicians than me, just have a look on YouTube.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Although this bass is at the bargain basement end of the price range, I am very happy with it. It replaces my other Sunburst J Bass that had a truss rod issue and thus would never hold a tune for long even with ultra light weight strings. I love the colour, shame rosewood fretboards are not available on cheap guitars. The Laurel fretboard did come up nicely, and darker, after a clean and an oiling. Looks really great. There was a little scuff mark on one of the horns, a transit issue I guess, but came out with a little buffing. It is now fitted with D'Addario flats which look, feel and sound great. Thanks Guys.Pat

It had to go into a local shop for some major nut repair, and I needed something to play around with. Off the rack, it was a pretty great bass for the price. The neck is very well crafted, no sharp fret edges like some imported instruments. It's an agathis body, so the tone can be kind of bland, but compared to older Squier Broncos, it seems that all of the bridge and neck contact one piece of wood on the multi-piece construction, so sustain isn't too bad. The bad: The tuners are pretty sorry and are an oddball size, which makes replacement with good tuners very difficult. My E and A tuners rattle some, but all four do hold tune pretty well for cheap tuners. Also, the stock pickup is a six-pole ceramic Strat pickup, so it can sound…odd when bending strings. The other bad is the bridge: although it intonates pretty well, two saddles can make proper intonation difficult to achieve along with proper radius. Also, the bridge mounting pattern is almost impossible to replace with another bridge–four hole lock-down and quick-release style bridges DO work, but the bridge is mounted a little too far forward, and intonation is almost always sharp on the upper end of the fingerboard. Gotoh 201's are also very difficult to adapt to fit. But for its price point, some of these cons are easily fixed. I have a Mojotone Alnico V lipstick Strat pickup in mine with CTS 500K pots. It sounds excellent–it fools some of my buddies about how cheap it is. This bass could probably also benefit from a bar retainer near the nut. my dad, a professional and extremely experienced bass guitarist, bought me this for christmas last year, and i love it. this is the first bass i've ever picked up and it's easy to play, is well built, has a nice feel to it, etc. i highly recommend it for beginners. i play it in my school band class and it fits in very well with the rest of the instruments. however it can fall out of tune easily and the pickup isn't the best, but ultimately it's the most perfect beginner bassout there, especially for the low price, it's high qualityace

My experience- The fit and finish is great. I didn’t have any setup issues as I’ve read here. Sounds great. Everything was set up perfectly even matched the fender setup guidelines I looked up. I didn’t have to do anything other than some lemon oil on the fretboard, and I run flats so I put new strings on. Really impressed with the bass. The necks the same as a jazz but medium scale. Rolling off the tones and bridge pickup volume I’m in Motown mode, or crank the jazz bridge and you can get close to Jaco tone. Very versatile bass. I will probably put a hi mass bridge on and I like the stacked knobs but they have some rough feeling spots when turning them, I’ll probably upgrade those at some point with fender parts. Happy with the purchase and definitely recommend the bass and AMS to anyone.Chris

Sound-amazing punchy heavy sound even too many options for me. I received this bass a little over a week ago and like it more everytime I pick it up. This bass is is a joy to play. The fit and finish are really good. The body paint job is flawless. The neck pocket is slug as it should be. The neck is very comfortable. The fretwork is great with no fret-sprout or rough edges, and they are nicely polished. The bridge is a standard bend metal bridge. The open back tuners turn smooth and hold tuning with no issues. The pickup is very high output, with lots of low and low-mids. It has a darker tone, partly from the placement and the ceramic humbucking design. I like this tone a lot. The playability is very good. The 32" inch scale makes long reaches a little easier than a standard 34" and the string tension is obviously tighter than a short scale 30". The only negative that I can see anyone having is the light body and the large tuners make it a little neck heavy, nothing that a good strap can't remedy, and still way better balanced than any Thunderbird and most Gibson EB style basses.I am very pleased with this bass. I really thought that I would be modding this bass with new pickups, electronics and possibly a highmass bridge and lightweight tuners, but at this point I think I'd keep it stock with one exception. I will probably shield the control and pickup cavities. I do that to all my basses since I have a lot of electronic interference where I practice. Squier/Fender hit a homerun with this bass.

This is the best bass guitar you could get for a beginner or even an intermediate player. The bass has 3 knobs, The first knob controls the P pickups, The second knob Controls the J pickups, and the third knob controls the Treble or "brightness" as some might call it. As any new guitar would need, you'll have to properly adjust the neck and string height to get the just the right set up you want. The back of the neck on my bass was just so smooth and from fine sanding which is great and makes it so easy to move up and down the fretboard. The body is lighter than expected but not an issue for me. This is a great bass to add modifications to and really just make it your own.autofob
I was looking for a good low end bass to use at home. I had borrowed my son's bass for several years, and a friends bass for a couple more and decided it was time for me to get my own. I looked at many over the last year and kept coming back to this one. I couldn't resist the Rocktober pricing and the majority of the reviews here and on other sites were favorable. I really did not expect this instrument to be or sound what it was. The craftsmanship is top notch to these old eyes and touch. having grown up around fender basses since the 60s, it seems like home. if i had a choice for the same money, I'll be honest and say I would prefer my buddy's 61 precision reissue, but since that isn't going to happen, i'm tickled with my choice. I'm a guitar player who just wanted to have a bass around. Out of the box, it only needed a truss rod adjustment. period. intonation and action fell right into the sweet spot, and I have noticed no electronic/audio anamolies. It sounds like a fender, and i prefer the satin neck over the gloss neck on the vintage vibe. I can't say enough that it blows my mind to have this kind of bass for this little money. Maybe that's part of it- as a guitar player maybe I have lower expectations than a seasoned or pro bass player, but I believe those cats would still recognize the value. It arrived on time, packaged well, and even it it wasn't I wasn't concerned. I have been shopping with Musicians Friend for many years and have never had a negative experience. First off, what's up with MF, the bass was shipped single boxed and was trashed by UPS. This is the 3rd guitar shipped by Musicians Friend in only the factory carton, not double boxed. Gives me second thoughts about purchasing guitars from MF in the future! Now the guitar, out of the box, the neck was pretty bowed and after adjusting the truss rod, till there was no adjustment left, got the neck straight. Lowered the action to my liking and plugged the bass in. No fret buzz, good tone and playability. Frets were well finished as was the fretboard, though the back of the neck had a couple big blobs of epoxy, which removed easily enough. Not a bad bass for this kind of price and looks great. Not thrilled with Musicians Friends skimping on the lack of double boxing though. Shame!!airtow

The Squier Bronco Bass delivers exactly what I expected. It's a 30" scale bass with a body shaped like the Fender Mustang bass; it has a single pickup (I believe it's a strat pickup), is fairly light weight (mine weighs in a 7 pounds 10 ounces), and it's a fun little axe. It's also the lowest-priced bass by an actual musical instrument company. How do they keep the price down? One way is that this is the only bass I've owned that has no fingerboard. It doesn't affect anything, but the front of the neck IS the fingerboard. The hardware is okay quality. But here's the thing – it sounds decent, feels great, plays well. There's going to be a little luck of the draw in a lower priced instrument, but my tuners stay in tune, intonation was on, everything is good. There was a little too much neck relief, but that was easy to adjust. If you're realistic about your expectations, the Squier Bronco Bass is an awesome value, looks good, and it gets you playing. It's not going to sound like a Stingray or a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, but it doesn't sound bad, either – I would do a show with one without worrying about it. I have other basses, but wanted to add an inexpensive short scale to my stable, and this bass was exactly what I wanted. I may upgrade the pickup later – I may not. For now, it falls between my 34" scale and 28.6" scale basses, and it's fun to play. I'm very happy with it.Pcake

As the headline says…it's very enjoyable to play. I've even made several recordings using it instead of my Fender USA Pro 2 Precision. It does a decent job on the P pickup; the J has lower output. To my surprise I'm really digging the "raw" feel of the neck; it's bare, tho sanded well. Another surprise: neck profile width and taper is like a J bass, yet the depth/shape feels more like a P! Huh!? Hey, works for me! With its black body and pickguard and the maple fingerboard it looks like it means BUSINESS! Point removed for the too-stiff tuner action. And then…I've managed to get the action very low, just where I like it. (FWIW, even on my USA Pro 2 I had to shim the neck to be able to get the level of low action that I prefer.) Yes, ladies n gentleman, I really appreciate this Affinity PJ. I am considering using it for punk and classic rock parts of the band's gigs; not out of the question at all!Leo
This bass looks, feels, and sounds great! Did they nail the bodywork and neck lines? No, not completely. But that's about as much as I've got for negatives. This is one of the best 5 string necks I've felt. Less pizza shaped than the EHB but almost that good. Could have been nice to see a heavier finish on the fretboard but the edges are rolled with no sharp frets at all – unlike my cv 70s P. Sound on this Destroys the EHB and my sr505. Can't say how road worthy the pots and tuners are but I don't want to change anything and mess with this mojo. Unless you need silent pickups and can live with the tradeoffs. I don't know what you would need other than maybe a beefier jack. Setup was mind blowing. Literally took it out of the box in store. Got home, string height was dialed, haven't checked intonation yet but sounds fine. Was hardly even out of tune. Strings feel quality, I will probably even hold off changing those. This bass is making a lot of basses look and sound like questionable decisions. If you are worried about durability, honesty, get a good hard case. This thing feels plenty solid. Make sure the tuners and string trees are greased up and jam away.Arturo
I got mine in Black body, black pickguard, maple neck with maple fingerboard, It came with good setup right out of the box, I like the headstock's face with large "Precision Bass" 70's style logo, with gloss tint on it. The maple neck is one piece neck. I have other Affinities basses but this one sounds terrific, a lot of growl sound on P pickups , I like the P sound but also the J pickup is welcome. I always like this combination: black on black with maple fingerboard. I recommend this bass, Squier is getting better and better with the years. The only complain with this is that the Jazz Pickup is less sounding than the P bass pickup, I needed to rise the Jazz pickup to get better output but not the same output than the Precision pickup.Garedot

I am absolutely loving this bass. I am a guitar player who wanted a bass for recording. I had been using a Squier bass but wasn't satisified. It just didn't sound and feel like Fender Precision Basses I'd played in the past. Decided to pull the trigger on this, and am so glad I did. It is significantly heavier and just feels much more solid. The fingerboard is fabulous. The back of the neck is so smooth and comfortable to play. The frets are perfect. Hardware so much better overall. Tuners much more solid…less tuning issues. And the sound is exactly what I was going for. It sits in my mixes so much better than the Squier bass was. And it is beautiful on top of everything. Can't recommend this bass enough.William
I purchased the Dakota Red Vintera Precision bass because I have been looking for that vintage feel and sound without having to mortgage the house. I wish I could afford a true vintage '58 Precision Bass, but the Vintera does not leave me disappointed. The first thing you will notice is it's beefy neck. If you are looking for a slim modern neck, this isn't it. It is the vintage "C" style neck with a wider fretboard which feels really good to me IMO. The gold aluminum pick guard really stands out next to the red of the body. The craftsmanship and finish is excellent; no fret sprouts or blemishes in the finish. The electronics are excellent with no buzz or crackle and the pups definitely have that vintage sound, particularly when the tone is rolled all the way off; you can definitely channel your inner James Jamerson and Duck Dunn. If you roll the tone back up it nicely brightens things up. I did have my luthier complete a set-up on it and I did change the stock strings with La Bella flats to further provide that old school sound. If you are looking for a bright modern sound then you may want to check out the Vintera Jazz basses. I play the bass through a Fender Rumble which allows this bass to sound it's best. Lastly, the tuners do their job well and provide stable tuning. This is an excellent bass and I have no reservation with recommending it if you want the old school feel and sound. I've been a Precision Bass player since I started playing bass years ago. This is my first "real" Fender bass however, after playing several different Squier basses over the years. While Squier makes great instruments at a fair price point, this Vintera Precision is like a different world compared to my previous basses. You can feel the overall quality of the parts, the fit & finish, and the materials just by picking up the bass and playing around on it. I received it in the mail almost perfectly set up by Music Store. Only the action was too high for me, but that was an easy adjustment. The bass has a wide, not too thin neck profile that is not very deep. Super comfortable to play. The nut width is slightly larger than on other modern P-Basses which is nice if you like the extra space. I really like the way this forces you to play a little bit different compared to a narrower fretboard, like for example on a Jazz Bass. The difference compared to a regular P-Bass is pretty small. You just get a feeling of more space for fretting. The fretboard radius is also a bit smaller than on a modern P-Bass. This makes for a very balanced playing feel in my opinion. These differences are all nice touches and make for a slightly different playing feel, but don't make it any harder to play than a regular P-Bass. The sound is absolutely wonderful. The 50s-style pickups have a slightly compressed sound that sound great on its own, plugged directly into a DI box or an interface. I replaced the factory set of strings with .045-.105 LaBella flatwounds which is a perfect fit for this pass. The low-mids are greatly enhanced by putting a set of flats on this bass. It sits beautifully in the mix and is never weak or overpowering – always perfectly balanced. The fit and finish of this bass is great. I'm not one to go looking for faults in the paint or anything like that, but I absolutely have not spotted any quality control issues with my bass. The hardware is absolutely fine and does the job. You don't get a massive bridge or fancy hardware here, because everything is done to vintage specs. You can, of course, modify these parts later on, but I really don't think that's in the spirit of this vintage-focused instrument. If you want to put a more massive bridge on the bass and modify it in other ways, I would choose a Fender Player Series P-Bass instead which is a bit cheaper – you can spend the difference on your mod parts. The bass is surprisingly light. If you have back issues or generally dislike heavy instruments, I would definitely recommend this one! The lack of weight does not impact the sound quality at all. The only drawback is that, in some positions, it can have a little bit of neck dive, not to a point where it really becomes a problem, however. I always wear a strap even when sitting down, and that takes care of the very slight neck dive very easily. One thing to keep in mind is that the hardware, specifically the bridge and trussrod, are truly built to vintage spec. This means that the string height adjusters on the bridge do not have tiny hexagonal screws but small slotted screws instead. You will need a very small slotted screwdriver to access these screws. The trussrod can only be adjusted at the base of the neck which can be annoying. You need to remove the neck in order to adjust the trussrod. Here, again, there is no hexagonal screw but rather a large philipps screw to adjust. Small minus points for these features that could have been left out in favor of more modern solutions. I guess the placement and types of screws used make it more true to the vintage specs, but I would much prefer if they had just chosen the modern versions instead. Overall, this is a very beautiful and great-sounding bass that I can only recommend if you like P-Basses, vintage sound, and flatwounds. The build quality is fantastic and I have no doubt that this bass will stay in great shape for a long, long time.

This bass is being used in church. It sounds great and looks great. There was a few things that needed attention. Action height needed lowering. Relief needed adjusting. Strings were replaced with Fender black,nylon wound. All adjustments were made to Fender specs (found on Fender website) for a P Bass. polished frets and conditioned fretboard. Its an incredible invest. All is great about it. Obly pointer is jack socket is a bit on the weak side noticeably. But just needs care and in tye long run ill excuqnge it for a better one. Some other details will be upgraded in the long run, qnd im sure if no bif accidents happen i got a decent bass for life. I am not a touring bassist though, i use it for rec9rding. Very happy with it overall, can handle many genrez. Very noiseless.
I know some musicians reflexively cringe a bit when they hear the name "Squier". But this bass is proof you can get a really good instrument for not a lot of money. I'm not a P-Bass expert, but to my ear, this bass sounds very pleasantly full and throaty with the tone knob wide open, and mellow and thumpy with it turned down. I'm also quite impressed with the quality control. The setup was pretty darn good right out of the box. I haven't needed to do a thing to it. I can't say the same even for my $900 Geddy Jazz, which arrived with mile-high action. One problem I did have was that one of the pickups was pressed all the way down and caught on the fingerboard. I popped it loose, but it remained a bit floppy. The guys at my local Sam Ash put some new foam under both pickups and now they're nice and tight. If you get one, you may want to add foam to make it stiffer. If you want a Precision Bass, but you're on a tight budget, this one will do very nicely. I really like the look, feel, and simplicity of the 50's P Bass. Fender itself does not make one anymore, leaving the Squire as the only option. Squire makes better instruments than Fender only collectors and vintage only players think. They are the only ones who will notice the "Squire" logo and care. The wood on this is good. Neck is straight and feels good. The frets are finished and good. Tuners are nickel plate and fine. Bridge is nickel plate and fine, with fully adjustable saddles that are nickel plated. The finish is good–providing you like it thick which I do, and was how it was in the 50's I suppose. Sound is good, but I will change the pickup to a Seymour SCPB-3 quarter Pound and change the pots for sure, maybe to Fender Vintage. I will eventually change the nut to bone as well. The sound is good–but can be made more like I want it with those changes. I will practice and rehearse with this now, and likely gig with this after the changes. Squire instruments are so much better than the similar priced gear available when I started playing in bands, when a new Fender anything was a grand without a case, and a Gibson was unthinkable. The knockoff instruments we played then until we could afford a Fender or a Gibson often ran $225-$400 new, and honestly were not as good as this Squire is.CAA
I bought this bass an an inexpensive backup to my Fenders, but I expect to use it as more than just a backup, because it plays well and looks cool. This one had good fret dressing and a nicely-cut nut (some Squier CV basses don't have the nut slots cut seep enough, and they have sharp fret ends, and they buzz at about the 14th fret This one didn't have any of those problems). The Indian Laurel fretboard is darker than most and almost looks like rosewood. I did have to lightly oil it, though. The pickups and bridge were all set to factory specs. and the intonation was pretty close to dead-on. I did need to adjust the neck a bit. There was way too much relief. The only downside is that the truss rod nut is set really deep and my wrench could barely reach it. Time to buy a longer wrench, I guess. I swapped the white pickguard out with a mint green one. You can see that in the picture I uploaded. I think it really looks good with the sonic blue.Dave

Compared to the Fender American Standard P-bass that I've owned, this one is surprisingly close. The tone is very good, the looks are better in my opinion. This gloss black, with gloss, maple, block inlay is gorgeous!! I'm loving this bass. I've become a big fan of the quality of the Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified lines, they're a good alternative to Fender's Standard series' more modern features and finishes. Because I had other, more pressing musical priorities, I hadn't gotten around to getting one of these. Recently, after noticing this Bass was no longer on the Squire site for 2018, I decided to jump on it before it was too late. A few years ago I had my eye on the Squier Matt Freeman Precision but waited and missed that one (now they're tough to find and around $450 used if you do) so I wasn't going to miss this one too. This is essentially a Freeman with block fret markers. The Bass arrived quickly and it was just as I'd hoped. The fit and finish were perfect. I grew up on '70's basses and the tinted, lacquered neck on this one is simply awesome. The body is basswood and I knew it'd be just a little on the light side (8.5 lbs) compared to what I'm used to, but after playing it, that's not even an issue. It feels substantial. Tuners feel fine. Pickup sounds just as I'd expect. Heavier bridge with brass saddles is better than what came on my '73 P for sure. The "ashtray" bridge cover is a nice touch too. I have no complaints with this Bass. The Classic Vibe series are highly playable, good quality instruments and this one will be doing shows soon. I'd urge you to get one of these before current stocks are gone, cuz it looks like so far, Squier's not doing a traditional Precision for 2018, just P/J's and the CV 50's P. If this Bass had a Fender decal, people would willingly pay more for it with no thought about doing so.Xrayex

As the headline says…it's very enjoyable to play. I've even made several recordings using it instead of my Fender USA Pro 2 Precision. It does a decent job on the P pickup; the J has lower output. To my surprise I'm really digging the "raw" feel of the neck; it's bare, tho sanded well. Another surprise: neck profile width and taper is like a J bass, yet the depth/shape feels more like a P! Huh!? Hey, works for me! With its black body and pickguard and the maple fingerboard it looks like it means BUSINESS! Point removed for the too-stiff tuner action. And then…I've managed to get the action very low, just where I like it. (FWIW, even on my USA Pro 2 I had to shim the neck to be able to get the level of low action that I prefer.) This is one of the best 5 string necks I've felt. Less pizza shaped than the EHB but almost that good. Could have been nice to see a heavier finish on the fretboard but the edges are rolled with no sharp frets at all – unlike my cv 70s P. Sound on this Destroys the EHB and my sr505. Can't say how road worthy the pots and tuners are but I don't want to change anything and mess with this mojo. Unless you need silent pickups and can live with the tradeoffs. I don't know what you would need other than maybe a beefier jack. Setup was mind blowing. Literally took it out of the box in store. Got home, string height was dialed, haven't checked intonation yet but sounds fine. Was hardly even out of tune. Strings feel quality, I will probably even hold off changing those. This bass is making a lot of basses look and sound like questionable decisions. If you are worried about durability, honesty, get a good hard case. This thing feels plenty solid. I got mine in Black body, black pickguard, maple neck with maple fingerboard, It came with good setup right out of the box, I like the headstock's face with large "Precision Bass" 70's style logo, with gloss tint on it. The maple neck is one piece neck. I have other Affinities basses but this one sounds terrific, a lot of growl sound on P pickups , I like the P sound but also the J pickup is welcome. I always like this combination: black on black with maple fingerboard. I recommend this bass, Squier is getting better and better with the years. The only complain with this is that the Jazz Pickup is less sounding than the P bass pickup, I needed to rise the Jazz pickup to get better output but not the same output than the Precision pickup.Garedot

Sound: Been playing guitar for 30 years and have now started focusing on Bass. This is my step up from a beginner bass. Has Ibanez 300. It was ok but getting good tones wasn't so awesome. This bass nails the tone. Never have a problem being heard in the mix. Features: Had to Balance the cost of a Fender Player series vs this bass. Frankly the maple neck with block inlays and the bordered neck is just a great look that wasn't available in the Player series. What I wish I had was the heavier bridge with the through body string mounting and the tuners could be better quality. My goal was getting the Fender J bass tones and it certainly has that. I don't mind the glossy neck in the least. Quality: I had to adjust the neck significantly. Action was obviously too high. I would say for a beginner level know that you may need to take this to someone to have it adjusted to a more playable condition. It was playable out of the box but was stressing my hand the longer I played. Value: Not gonna get a better classic sounding bass at this price point. The Wow Factor: Squire certainly nailed the look of this bass and it comes with all the pleasing curves of a Fender J bass. Plays and sounds great. Overall: Great looking bass. I got the blonde. Bordered maple neck with block inlays. It has a more "roasted" color than my blonde strat, I really like the look and it plays very well after some adjustment. I did have one dead note high up on the neck that may require some fret work. Tomes cant be beat at this price.
I really like the bass I found, I played a bunch of these and they were all different. I got this one brand new in the box after playing a floor model. But after opening and inspecting, the setup was not really that good, so I did the setup, polished a few minor flaws and it plays excellent. I noticed the sound and the tone variation when blending the volumes and the tone pot really makes a difference, I can say that this was not the case of all of them I played. Mine has a three piece body, I've seen 1 and 2 piece bodies as well in this same model. I could not find another three piece, that's why I fixed the problems and kept it, because it sounds so good, there is something definitely different about this one. The tone, volume and dynamics between the strings is very balanced and it speaks bass if you know what I mean. I would be hard pressed to find another bass like this one. I've played this bass with a couple of bands and everyone likes the tone and I can say this bass has character and it is very musical and fun to play. So try it out and see and hear how you like it, I recommend this bass for beginners and professionals.Warren, F

The frets were level and dressed, no sprout or sharp edges. The finish was beyond reproach. The neck pocket is tight, the tuners function as they should and the bass sounds like a Fender Jazz Bass should. This bass arrived yesterday. I was blown away with the good looks and finish. It is so comfortable to hold and is much lighter than my regular American made P bass. It needed NO setup! Everything was perfect right out of the box. The frets are smooth – even the pickup height was correct! The pickups are good and punchy. Even the strings sound and feel good. THIS IS AN AMAZING BASS AT ANY PRICE. My American P bass is now in the closet.
I got the Squier Mini P-bass in Dakota Red, it looks great, no finish issues. I'm a guitar player and I love the size, it's a blast to play, the scale length isn't too far from a guitar, it sounds pretty good and is comfortable to sit with. The pickup is fair, it would definitely make a great bass for a younger player or a small adult that is uncomfortable with a full size bass… and for someone like me that just wants to play around on it for fun and do some some basslines on home demo recordings it is sweet. With a couple of upgrades it could be a mini monster.Mark
I’d read reviews of how good this bass is and had to check it out for myself! I’m starting uni soon so wanted a cheap small bass to take with me. Fit and finish is very good as was the setup. Just had to slightly tweak the intonation. It’s really quick and easy to play and actually sounds very precision like 👍🏼 The G string can have a slight ‘sizzle’ to it but nothing too untoward. The tuners aren’t the best but seem to hold tune ok. I did replace the strap buttons as they are minuscule and my strap came off them too easily. Overall a fun and great sounding addition to anyone’s collection.Nic S.

I have been playing bass and guitar for 60 years and own a few excellent basses. I just fancied trying a Squier Bronco due to its short scale and Fender looks. I have a Precision bought back in 1976 but old hands are finding the long scale difficult. I bought this with low expectations and probably the need to upgrade the hardware over time. Having now played it the only things I will upgrade are the strings as they are too bright for me. I like flatwounds. Everything was spot on out of the box. Scan say they set up every guitar no matter what the price. Well this was great. Nut cut correctly and action around 2.5mm at 12th on the E string. Intonation bang on even with the 2 saddle bridge. I know these use a strat pickup but so did the original Precisions. This one no doubt is a cheap Far Eastern pickup but it sounds great so no need to change it. Even the tone and volume work pretty well. Okay maybe not as good as cts pots but I won’t change them. Sound is as you would expect from a true fender. The neck is a joy and no sharp frets. I had to add a little neck relief but no big deal. For the price these are a steal. Even the tuners feel good and I really hate sloppy tuners. There is no play in these. The hardware might not stand the test of time but it is all easily upgraded if anything does break.Howfener
