Slammer Hammer Bass Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

Ordered one of these (In Pearl White) because of a good experience with another one. Of course I had to do some set up to alleviate fret buzz, adjust neck, string height etc. Once it was set up to my liking and a fresh set of my gauge strings, this bass was ready for just about anything! I have used it for a couple of outdoor shows with medium and very large P.A support and the sound was very good overall. Through my stage amp, I was able to dial in a very usable sound quickly. The bass is very light weight .(Which helps those of us with back issues.) Yet is still able to get a decent tone. The bass I received was a newer model with a poplar body and a Jatoba fret board which still has the characteristics of rosewood (slightly lighter in color) with a hint of a maple type bite. Personally, I liked the overall sound with this particular fret board. Speaking of which, the fret board is very easy to play (when properly set up) with a smooth, fast neck. The electronics are decent enough although the "bass boost" knob should be used sparingly and judiciously just to add some deep flavor on occasion for certain styles. All in all, a pretty decent machine that can easily be used by beginners and seasoned pro's (ok, it won't match up with a "boutique bass" by any means but still a very usable product!) This bass is really amazing for the price of it. The neck is so smooth and a bit thinner than other regular bass, perfect for my small hands and the weight wow it is really light. the built quality is top notch. The sound is really good and you've got plenty of sound you can experiment with it. Overall it's an all rounder bass from beginners to pronelson c.

The Ibanez GSR 200 is one of the best "bang for your buck" basses on the market. They are made with excellent quality, lightweight wood, agathis, maple, rosewood. The onboard P/J pickups and electronics sound good. They play good out of the box but they play excellently if set up by a guitar tech. These were choice basses for many of the bass players supporting MWR tours. Musicians would take Ibanez GRS 200 basses on tour and raffle them off to service members on the last gig.matt4717

Overall: I wandered into a national Music store chain one day in Oct 2016 and went straight to the used guitars that were hanging on the wall in the used section. I'm always trying to keep an eye out on a good used Music Man electric as I try to collect these fine instruments. That particular day there was pretty slim pickings so I wandered through amps, effects and I ended in the pass guitar section. (I do play bass but usually when I write my own tunes) and this 6 string bass caught my eye. It didn't look cheap so I asked one of the vultures hovering there ( employees, just doing their gig) what he could tell me about this bass. It was pretty light-weight, first impression, so he gave me the run-down on the thing and I asked him if I could put it through the paces that I knew and we plugged it into an Ampeg mini brute what ever it was called and began a 45 minute of exploration where I passed this through an extensive test regarding tone, intonation,ease of reaching pots, tome control, The bass boost, I checked out the spec's which were pretty tight on with what was written. The balance was great, ease of use overall in case I plan to take a 6 string bass to a gig and perform for 3 hours was good weight-wise. I was particularly impressed with the bright tome. Overall: I bought this simply to see if I want to pursue playing a 6 string. Beyond a few brief encounters in music stores, I have not played one and opted to try the tried-and-true Ibanez brand. The price point had me a little scared but this was a great purchase. I don't expect to have this long being I will either continue on the 6 string, or it will be flipped into something else. This is my first Ibanez and I will likely give the higher end SR models a closer look regardless of string count. The Good: Price, the setup was perfectly playable out of the box, tone is decent, weight is good for a 6 string, the fret ends a dressed. The Bad: doesn't balance well (Raw leather strap helped), finish is thin and wood not worth keeping natural (wanted the black model but, out of stock), Odd EQC.j.

I had no trouble setting up this bass. I was able set the intonation perfectly. Even the low strings sustain pitch very well and were easy to tune. I added a slight relief to the neck, because there was a lot of string buzz. After this slight adjustment to the truss rods, there is only a buzz when playing hard on the bottom 3 frets of the lowest string. The action is still low and it is very easy to play (though I do have long fingers). The stock strings are very cheap. As someone else stated, I feel upgrading to higher quality strings may resolve the low B buzz issue. The tone is amazing thanks to the built in EQ bass boost. I found it easier to play harmonics than my other basses. Walking bass lines sound smooth and percussive playing sounds pro. This is my new favorite bass. Sound: I was impressed by the sounds I could get from this little beast. I'm a pretty heavy handed finger style player (I've always had a heavy attack), but I could hear the differences every time I alternated pickups, adjusted the EQ, and flipped the "Power Tap" switch. This thing offers a lot of sound for very little money! Features: As stated, the thin fast neck of this bass is amazing. I have smaller than average sized hands, so the slimmer design is really comfortable for me. The PowerSpan dual coil pickups are really decent sounding for what they are. The "Power Tap" switch is what sold me on it. After some knob twiddling, trial and error, I found a really nice warm, but heavy sound that I enjoy. Also, the ease of access to the battery compartment is a nice feature as well – no screwdriver needed! Ease of Use: Ease of use is great! Plug it in and play 😉 Seriously though, my stepfather is a guitarist by nature, and even he's remarked at how nice it plays and how nicely the knobs freely turn to dial in the sound you are looking for. Quality: I was impressed by the overall quality of this instrument for the price. I own and play "higher end" basses (Warwick's, Ibanez SR Premium's, etc.), and the quality of this is bass is almost as nice as my SR Premium at a fraction of the cost. Of course it had a few things that needed some tweaking out of the box, but overall I am very pleased with the product. You could spend a lot more and get a lot less (I have anyways…). I guess there's a reason I keep coming back to Ibanez basses. Value: The Ibanez SR300E is considered by most to be a beginner bass. I get that. Yet, for the price, you will be hard pressed to find something with better quality and features. If you are new to bass, or need a backup for your regular player, I would highly recommend the SR300E. I see it becoming my regular player because of it's features and sound. And hey… If something were to ever happen to it at a gig in one of those "seedy" venues, I could easily replace it and not be too upset about the price. Manufacturer Support: I've never had to deal with Ibanez directly, but I have dealt with zZounds a few times and their customer service is wonderful! Friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. Those are the things that make me a repeat offender to this site! The Wow Factor: This bass is a lot of bang for the buck! I love the look of the black hardware on the weathered black finish. When my girlfriend gave me the "Oh no. Did you buy another bass?" look – even she had to admit the weathered black finish was sexy looking. Ha! Overall: I originally bought an Ibanez SR300E Iron Pewter as a gift for a member of my family who took an interest in playing the bass. When it arrived I took it out of the box to tune it and give the action a little tweaking. Of course, being a bass player myself, I had to give it a try to see how well it played. I was in shock and awe by how well it played and sounded. The neck was extremely comfortable; very thin and fast! It felt like this thing could play itself. After playing it for a few days, (and a few times since), I was so amazed by it that I had to come back to order one for myself (Weathered black – that black hardware on black bass just looks so good).Jason

As a long time guitarist, I thought I'd dip my toe into the world of bass. This is an incredible product for the money and in no way feels or looks like an entry level product. Really usable features which lend towards a huge range of tones from a single instrument. I have had this beautiful five string fretless bass guitar for almost four months now. This guitar was set up just right out of the box. The only two things that I had to do differently was of course to put flatwound bass strings on this bass, and I chose to raise the strings action up a little higher. Other than that this bass is exactly what I wanted in a fretless bass guitar. I wanted a bass that could nail those "Jaco Pastorius" bright tight punchier "Jazz" bass tones. This bass also does the new age music fretless bass sounds so well. It is very well built, and has a beautiful finish. Very lightweight, no strain on my back. Has that perfect Ibanez action I've come to prefer over other makes. Pickups work in tandem, not separately, so that took some getting used to. Color is hot and sexy.John

I bought the jewel blue one and named it "Jewel". No, not like the singer. I thought it was totally beyond all expectations. I played it for a couple of years before I lost it when my marriage fizzled. Now I want another one. I'm no novice. I've been playing guitar for over 35 years, and Jewel was my third bass. I liked her better than a Fender Jazz. I want another one. To nitpick, I didn't like the square corners on the top of the neck (past all the frets), so I took the neck off and rounded them. Problem solved. I also didn't like that the threads stripped out on the E string bridge piece when I tried to back it up far enough to get the intonation right. But I think the real problem is solved with an Earvana nut. Anyway, if you can't afford to buy the bass everyone is telling you to buy – or even if you can – buy this one. If you don't sound good on it, you don't need a Fender or a Rick, you need lessons.Gravity Zen

I've had this bass for almost two weeks now, maybe a bit more. I didn't give my feedback befor today, since I would've given it less than a one. However, I waited for a reason. The sound is great, and I don't mind the sound of the stock pickups. It looks great, but that's trivial to me compared to the sound. Now here's a problem that few have mentioned. While some said, it's playable right out of the box, IT ISN'T. I got the bass in a pretty bad condition. Meaning, the action was too high, and the pickups were too close to the strings. It was virtually unplayable, even though I convinced myself that I could play it; which I did. But the pain in my fingers was indescribable, I almost got depressed. I changed my strings a week later to SH77 flat wounds .50 (heavy and thick strings), which didn't help initially. So I tried adjusting the action myself, but still wasn't enough. A day later, I sent it to a professional for setup. Now that made all the difference. I'm in love now. The strings sound amazing, the bass plays amazing, the feel is amazing, …. in brief it's amazing. Bottom line, have it setup by a professional ( unless you are a professional technician), otherwise you'll struggle with this bass. Unfortunately, the agent at MF mentioned that it's playable right out of the box, and I was naive to believe it. Anyway, live and learn. Set it up, and you'll already to go. I purchased a Sterling sub series stingray5 a week earlier and really wasn't happy so I went to return it. While I was there I was trying out some of the usual fenders that are in stock and just wasn't feeling it. Then, I noticed this one. I played it for 5 minutes and couldn't stop. It had the most comfortable neck I've ever played. After comparing it to a couple more expensive p bass options, this one was still the clear winner. The design may not be typical fender, and it's almost reminiscent of an Ibanez or a Washburn, but the ergonomic are like no other. Trust me this guitar is worth a shot. The tone is warm and growly. If you could imagine mixing the bass tone of the red hot chili peppers and the pixies, this would be what it sounds like.Chris

I got this bass recently and have to say its my go to bass for everything. I have a few others like a Dean which is nice, but feels odd due to its weight balance. But the Aerodyne sits well and feels comfortable. I think the tone of it sounds really good. Bought this in store so I got to test it out, action isnt bad. I did some innotating which only the E string needed it. I'm sorta new to bass, but I been producing music for 10 years. But being a new bassist, it feels great. I do highly recommend this bass. As a learner who has been playing a cheap 4 string the move to this 5 string was an excellent experience due to the slender neck. The paint job is out of this world and the hardware oozes quality. I spent a few weeks trying out basses at my local music stores before settling on this bass. What set this bass apart from the others was the tone and the various tones I could get out of it, as well as it's playability. The active EQ is far better than the passive EQ's that I find on other basses. For example, the EQ on Jackson basses are all but useless. There was very little tone difference when varying the EQ controls on Jackson basses. But on this Ibanez, you really hear the difference in the tone settings. The Ibanez has a bass, mid, and treble tone control. So you can really dial in the tone you're looking for. Also, the individual string height adjustment on the Ibanez lets me tailor the action to exactly how I like it. The guitar is well balanced weight wise and so hangs naturally when I play it. I have a BC Rich mockingbird bass which is terribly weighted ad the headstock drops to the floor if I don't have my fret hand supporting the neck. The string spacing on the Ibanez 5 string is good, and I can still play slap bass on it. All the knobs on the bass (except the volume knob) have a mid point that you can feel as your adjusting the tone controls, so you know exactly where "flat" is. I really like that feature.beaglebuddy

Unexpectedly nice looking bass. 2 piece fllamed maple body with a darker burst than the website photos suggested. Not bookmatched, but a nicely figured body. Super versatile preamp and nice sounding, powerful and noise free pickups. Fast, slim neck and good quality hardware. I've tweaked the set up over a couple of weeks and it's playing really well. A far nicer bass than I expected for the price, after some playing in I think it will be better than my mid 90s SR. Just took delivery of a used Hofner shorty bass in black. Lovely instrument. Fit and finish was fine. I had to do a little bit of intonation setting which took no time. The neck is better than expected. Frets are finished properly and the neck has a nice satin finish. Its not to wide, not too thick and feels great. The pickup delivers and even sound across the strings. There are no dead spots. Volume and tone controls work great and the knurled knobs feel very good. I was able to dial in some of my preferred sounds using the VPF control on my Markbass Blackline 250 going through a Markbass NY604 cabinet. I was also liking the sounds going through an Eden World Tour preamp. Im looking forward to rehearsal tomorrow using the Eden directly into an EV ZLX 12 powered cabinet. The bass came professionally packed and really appeared to be new. Love the padded Hofner gig bad with the logo on it. All in all a great small, inexpensive (but not cheap) bass for practice, performance and especially travel.Miguel404

First of all, this bass is just what I wanted for practicing when traveling. Compact, 24 frets, decent electronics and comes with a gig bag. Intonation was pretty good too. I did adjust the intonation, but that's really only because I'm kind of fussy about intonation. One thing I will say is I had never experienced "neck dive" until I owned this bass like. in the resting position, the bass headstock will point right down to 5 o'clock. Since this is a practice instrument, I made some modifications. I put weight in the body cavity, but the body cavity is not huge, so with extra weight, I could get the neck to hang in the resting position at about 3 o'clock. I next removed the front strap pin and drilled a 3/8" in diameter hole 2" into the body at the same angle as the strap pin screw. I purchased 3/8" aluminum round stock and cut it to 7.5". 2" would insert into the body and 5.5" would remain outside to mount the strap button while extending out to nearly the 12th fret. I painted the round stock black (primer and paint). I mounted (drilled and epoxied) the strap button on the end of the round stock. I think epoxied the extender into the body. It looks pretty darned good and now the bass balances perfectly.Kevin1014

I've bought three of these so far. The first one I gave to my bass player. When I decided I wanted one for myself, I ordered another one. Like the first one, it was attractive, with no obvious manufacturing defects. However, the D string had a bad buzz. It wasn't fret buzz or sympathetic vibration, because it happened wherever I fretted the D string, but would not buzz when I played D on the A string. I determined it must be a problem in or under the bridges. I loosened and reset the bridge pin for the D string and it didn't help. I called Ibanez, and they told me to try the things I'd already tried, then told me to send it back. The MF customer service fellow was EXTREMELY helpful, so no complaints there. But the one I ordered in it's place had the EXACT same problem. Since nobody else makes a bass in this class, I'll keep this one and troubleshoot it myself. Just saying, if you buy one of these be sure and check it out immediately.Paul

Instrument was ordered and delivered very quickly. Only took about 4 or 5 days to arrive. Pros: The bass feels pretty good right out of the box. Only thing is that the washers on the tuning machines were loose which just needed to be tightened. The smaller size makes for more of a guitar feel to the frets which is great for jamming out. The intonation of the instrument seems good. All notes across seem well in tune and ring well. The harmonic at the 12th fret is in tune to the open string. The frets don't protrude off the neck and seem to be sanded down well. The pickups sound fine. All the frequencies come through the amp very well. The built in tuner works well. Sometimes it has to think about the low E but that's understandable. Cons: The strings are extremely flexible and slinky which causes the string to go under the frets. If you strike very heavily and are digging into the strings when playing on the first three strings then some buzz occurs. My guess is that the harsh vibration of the strings touches the other frets which might occur because they are long scale bass strings. A friend mentioned that the GS Mini strings from taylor might fix that up which makes sense though I am doubtful. Good luck finding a bag for this instrument. The size is close to a guitar in length, however, the body is just a bit thicker than an acoustic guitar. I think a dreadnought body is similar though might not be thick enough. Maybe the acoustic guitar roadrunner bags might work but I haven't had a chance to try it. TL,DR: it's aight.Vic the Butcher

First instrument I've ever purchased online. Second fretless, and has D'Addario flats, which are a perfect fit for this. I wanted something fretless, but also could come close to emulating a double bass, which for my purposes it does very well. I've been going through an online bass course and decided to switch from a fretted to this fretless to kill two birds with one stone. Learn the content of the course and work on intonation with a fretless bass. Pre-covid brought this to a group class band I was in. Everyone liked the tone and sound of this bass. Since I've been using it very often with the course and shedding, I've noticed a slight buzzing at the nut on open strings. It could be the strings were a little undersized and have worn the groove in the nut a bit, but this sound is only heard at the bass. Doesn't go out over the amp, so I don't consider it a concern. I purchased this some time back and just noticed I hadn't written a review. Probably better since I've been using it more. This bass has become a go-to bass for me.Alan D.

Very, very happy with it. It was smaller and lighter than I was expecting, though the neck itself was quite long which is good. I have now got used to the size and weight though. I tried first of all to get an upright bass sound, and once you adjust how you actually play to imitate an upright it is very appealing how close it gets in sound. That is the main reason I bought it, but then found the sound of the other pickups is so good that I can't stop playing with those too. It is a very responsive and articulate instrument, I really am very pleased with it and would thoroughly recommend it. I have 2 other basses (Ibanez fretted Talman and a fretless by Harley Benton with roundwound strings) and this is in a totally different league to them. It really is a very 'musical' instrument. I've always wanted an electric bass that sounded like an upright, and this bass gets very close. This bass was designed from the drawing board as a fretless, and Ibanez has succeeded in creating a fretless bass guitar that sounds very close to the sound of an upright bass. It is also very versatile. Using only the piezo pickups in the bridge, this bass sounds very much like an upright. Use both magnetic pickups, and it sounds something like a 60s Jazz bass. The neck pickup soloed sounds reasonably close to a Precision bass. My favorite setting is: Piezos on full with the neck pickup at about 3, just to give a little more bottom; play over the neck at the 20th to 24th fret, and you get an upright tone. The flat wound strings that come standard were also a very good choice in adding to the upright-like tone. This bass is also very light, and the neck is a pleasure to play. Ibanez has definitely hit a home run with this bass. If you're looking for a bass guitar that can give you an upright tone, please, do not overlook this one.Mike From Queens,NY

I'd been looking for an affordable but quality 4 string for a long time. I originally bought a Hofner but it was not up to par so my advisor suggested this Ibanez AFB200. I love the size and weight. The hollow body is great because you can jam unplugged if you want and it still projects. Plugged in sounds great too. Ok… first off, the fanned frets are amazing. The extra scale is incredible… If you need it. The tonal qualities are insane! The pickups and electronics are on point. The finish is stunning. The neck… well… it took me a while to feel comfortable with it. It’s “chunky.” I had a hard time getting it set up to make it feel good. I played one of these in a guitar shop in late 2019 and fell in love with it. This bass just fits my hands, plays effortlessly, and has perfect balance. You might think that the fanned frets would be an issue but if anything it adds to the comfort. Out of the box, it was set up really well and the intonation was spot on.Mark

Appearance:Fabulous looking guitar with figured maple archtop and finished in high gloss Deep Cherry finish, with single cream binding and ebony fingerboard. Playability:The flat radius fingerboard and deep cutaways give this guitar super playability and unrivalled upper fret access makes it a real joy to play. Features: Twin humbuckers and simple controls for tone and volume ensure you have a very simple set up (no coil taps on offer here). Tuning stability is excellent with locking Hamer tuners and a Wilkinson floating tremolo bridge. Sounds:Pickups are Hamer covered own brand humbuckers and there's a ceramic pickup in the bridge and Alnico II in the neck. The bridge is bright, warm and aggressive – perfect for hard rock and 70's and 80's metal. The neck is slightly sweeter and less aggressive but great for all rhythm work including funk. This guitar has everything. Superb appearance (very similar body shape to a Gibson double cutaway Les Paul) and has a figured flame maple top, finished in a grey 'sunburst' with a flawless high gloss back and front. The back is plain mahogany but some grain can be seen through the dark grey finish. Body has a classy single cream binding to the front which again is flawlessly done. Neck has lovely 'D' shape which is extremely comfortable in use and the flat radius ebony finger board is a real joy to play. The neck has 22 medium jumbo frets that are superbly finished – no rough fret ends (take note some of you much more expensive manufacturers) giving excellent play ability and the upper fret access is superb. The pickups are nickel covered Hamer humbuckers and have tones best suited to hard rock and 70's/80's metal with the bridge pickup being absolutely superb for that type of music. The neck is less aggressive and provides a real tonal contrast when mixed with the bridge in the middle setting, or on it's own. Hardware is all nickel and the fixed bridge and tuners are pretty standard with no downside to this guitar. As you can tell I'm a big fan of Hamer guitars and this is a real thing of beauty. Balance a little off, head stock a little heavy giving the off balance feel with neck. Needs a little hotter set of pickups like the ones in my Scarab II but over all feels great, plays great and looks great. Love Hamer!jhub350

I've had this bass for about 6 or 7 years now and it has absolutely blown me away! I didn't play it much when I first got it bc of the weird transition from 4 to 5 strings but over time I've played it more and more. I love it more every time I play on it! I've used this thing for rock, alt metal , death metal, posthardcore bands, jazz bands, jamming with friends stangers in a bluesy way, I've recorded With it and made YouTube covers with it. It's suited more for rock metal punk abd subgenres but it's versatile. This thing will take thick strings if you want (135 B string), the dadario strings that came on it were great too. This thing has great low end roar but can also sing melodically I play a lot of chords/fragments and tremello with a weird playing style and this thing sounds great! It's my favorite bass, it's the best I've played although I haven't tried many abd my others are lower quality. I play guitar too but am mainly a bassist so I like how the strings sit a little closer together than on others or 4 strings. I've had guitarists ask me what I did to make this bass sound so great and they were blown away when I said nothing just took it out the box! I've only had to intoneate it once so far. It's set up was pretty great out of the box the strings were a bit higher off the neck than I was Used to but once I got used to the action I was glad they put it where it was. Only complaint is that the low b sometimes would make the low b harware rattle and I could feel it skake/vibrate the whole bass (it didn't come through amp or anything. This stopped over time and I think higher string gauges might have helped to smooth this out. Batteries for the active pickups seem to last for quiet awhile. I use this through a boss me50b with compression on and through a nice combo amp that can compete with stacks this bass roars through it. First off let me say I've been playing "P" bass for quite a while. My current model is 24 yrs old. Thought I'd shop around for a replacement. No gigging for me anymore. Last one was July 4, 1973. Then along came children. So now I just sit on the edge of the bed and play along with John Paul Jones. When I found this Schecter Omen Extreme -4, I was deciding between an SG standard, and the Fender Aerodyne. Then I picked up this one, simply because it is bezutiful to look at. What a suprise. The pan knob will switch you from a "P" bass to a "J" bass. Even though the Omen has a 34" scale it plays beautifully. I am not disappointed with this purchase. The shape hints at a Jazz bass which I like, hence the Aerodyne search. Never mind that, this plays sweertly. At this time GC us offering an %18 off sale. You just couldn't go wrong. I haven't been playing long. Bought my first bass in 2020 (Epiphone Thunderbird Goth). Started taking lessons online through BassBuzz (Josh is excellent!), after a few weeks of practicing for a minimum of 2 hours a day, I was able to start learning songs for our Praise Team at Church (we currently had no bassist). I'd take my Epiphone of course. I learned to play sitting down, now it's time to stand, my shoulder was killing me! 2nd week of playing at Church and my tone column failed! I took it to GC to get it fixed and spotted the Schecter hanging on the wall. I picked it up and couldn't believe the difference in the weight (again, I'm a novice), my salesperson explained the difference between active and passive and I knew then that I wanted an active guitar. The Epiphone took two uses of muscles for my left arm, one to hold the neck up and of course the other to go up and down the fretboard. This guitar is so balanced it will stay where you place it from the get go. GC gave me a fair trade on the Epiphone so I did the deal the next day. If you're a beginner or even an experienced player, this guitar can make a tremendous difference with ease and sound. Being a novice,were it not for this guitar I wouldn't have known what to look for without an experts help!Fred W

Overall: I got this bass as an early Father's Day gift to myself and also for hitting my two year mark in the Air Force. I would consider myself a beginner bassist but I have some experience on guitar and setting up both, including electronics. After a string change and adjusting the truss rod, this thing plays like butter. I also had to file a few sprouting fret ends, but that's normal where I live. I may change out the cheap pots, but the pickups sound great. Nicest playing bass I've played.Michael

Overall: I had an earlier version of this same make and model for years (and loved it), but it was recently stolen. Rather than looking around for another (make, model, etc), I went back to what I knew… and loved. I purchased this newer version, and love it! With the added features, it has a richer, deeper sound than my old version, but still the same, great play-ability – like having my old friend back. It is a great mid-priced bass guitar!Bruce

Overall: L just received my candy red bass,OMG where do I start! great out of the box,did a little tweaking string height,intonation,truss rod was perfect. strings are kind of dead,thats to be expected,L have new specror strings to replace with.this is by far the sweetest bass I have ever owned.L would put this up against any american fender! look no further for a great bass with a great company,SPECTOR of course if you want to sweeten the deal,than order this from zZounds,if you can get one .HURRY,they really go FAST! Very nice bass. it sounds greats. I dont like that it is off balance, but I can get passed that. It is alittle pricey for what it is. I would highly suggest this bass to a motley fan or a schecter fanRob

I was a bit skeptical when I purchased but due to all the positive reviews I was swayed. I have had this amp for around a month now and I am amazed at how many different types of sounds I can get out of the EQ section. With the drive you can get massive dirt, crunchy sound, all the way to that "Marcus Miller" type sound. I use a Fender American Deluxe Jazz 5 with this set-up. I have been using this head with a Fender Rumble V3 1x 15 and an Ampeg bxt 4×10. Super warm, round sound all the way to biting rock tones. I also have a Fender Rumble V3 500 watt amp and the quality of this Aguilar is better. I can also get very pleasing sounds out of the Rumble amp as well though. I also play an Eden WT 800 and sometimes it's just to clinical sounding. The Eden is nice but over priced. I think if your budget is limited go for the Fender Rumble V3 500, but if you can pony up more money, go for the Aguilar. My only 2 complaints would be the need to purchase a case separately and the fact that there isn't an aux input. Other than that, I have really taken to the clarity , punch and tone of this little sucker. Mostly I play R & B, funk, gospel, Jazz, and some rock. At first I had trouble finding a way to get "my sound" which tends to lean towards that fat Marcus Miller sound, but I had to learn how to use the EQ a bit. Took some time to figure out but now I LOVE IT! This amp really has tons of power and sounds louder than 500 watts to be sure. I am satisfied with my purchase. If you have never owned a class D amp, I highly suggest paying attention to this review. I bought this amp solely on reviews as none were available in the local GC. If you DO NOT like to FEEL the sound of your bass…then this amp is for you. This amp lacks GIRTH! It is weak and feeble. I bought this amp to take place of my older Ampeg B2R. My ampeg is not even a higher dollar SVT series head…just a B2R and it wipes the floor with this measly class D amp. I highly suggest you not waste your money like I did…..I am extremely disappointed in this amp (It's going back) and the reviews it gets cause these class D amps are weak…go ahead and try one head to head and you will see a BIG difference. I will not sacrifice tone for weight and if you heard them next to each other you would not either. Keep shopping! Better yet, demand companies stop selling these class D junk amps…..the weight is not worth the tone. I now see why so many reviews show little to no EQ adjustment on this amp ( usually reviewing flat)….cause it don't have much to speak of. Little bottom end and lacks high end. The Drive knob goes from not enough to too much …no sweet spot and not very practical sound-wise….just a gimmick in my opinion. Do not let others persuade you into believing this amp or even the 500 watt version is loud because it has NO headroom what-so-ever! Do not get me wrong here…I am not against just Aguilar here…I tried an Ampeg Portaflex 500 watt head and it sounded about the same…weak, with NO Girth!MakroBass

There is no style that you cannot play with this bass. Pick ups are strong and versitile. The 30" scale is fast, sweet and the neck is butter smooth. I put tape wounds on it and it just thumps. Mine is root beer satin and it gets lots of compliments. I love this bass, over 40 years of playing bass and have literally owned evrything at one time or another, this is the keeper.Rushnut1

The materials are good. Fit and finish are good. Sound is good – I can get the P bass sound I was after in a 5 string. The fretwork is ok – for the price. Probably could use a good polishing. No hig frets or fret ends sticking out. The action on mine was high and the intonation was off. I lowered the strings a bit and adjusted the intonation. If you can't do this yourself, you will most likely need to have the tech at the store do it. Most Maple neck guitars in this price range shrink a tiny bit in their first Minnesota winter from the dry air. This causes the "fret bloom". I most likely will heed to file and reshape the fret ends when this happens. For the price, it seems to be a solid value.Merle

I was very surprised when I received this instrument. It was packed well and thought I was receiving the same quality instrument that I have received from musicians friend in the past. This right out of the box was not set up properly and would not play since the pickups were not soldered properly or at all. Had to do a full set up on the instrument and solder the pickups to get it to play. Now it sounds like the other instruments I have always received from Musicians Friend. I know this is not an expensive unit but the quality from ibanez was terrible. I am really disappointed to say the least. I should have sent it back, but thought I could fix myself and no what I had ,rather than have another sent to me in the same way the 1st one was sent. Very disappointed!!!!starfire 64

Overall this is a very nice bass for the money. Mine was made in Indonesia. Quality and finish were very good. Setup was fine right out of the box. Hardware and electronics seem to be of good quality. You can get a lot of tonal variation as well. One minor complaint is the body is lightweight and the neck is heavy so be sure and buy a comfortable strap that won't slip.Steve

I've played a few German made Hofners, always thought the build quality was hit or miss….mostly miss! I found the Hofner Contemporary series, made in China with the German hardware to be far superior in build quality, and frankly I can't tell the difference in tone. The sustain block in the Contemporary Hofner gets rid of feedback at higher volume levels, and balances the instrument so it's not a neck diver like the German models. Very comfortable and still light. I bought the Violin and the Club, super impressed with the build, both are flawless, beautiful woods, laminate, but then so are the expensive German made Hofners. The blinding work is flawless, I never found a German built as well as these Chinese bass's…just put a nice set of flatwound strings on and you have a Hofner that blows the overpriced German Hofner away. You can buy the Hofner case's direct from Germany, and even with shipping the prices were less than buying them in the USA. Don't disqualify the Chinese, they're making some quality instruments!GregS

I fell in love with the Hofner sound from many of my favorite artists and had to have one. I think the club bass is more comfortable and looks much better than the violin bass. I bought this ignition version since it would take me years to save up for a German one. The setup was perfect on this bass right out of the box! Very smooth and clean. I did a few things to mine that I think were necessary. I switched the original flat strings for a set of Labella's, sanded the bottom of the bridge for better resonance, and adjusted the intonation a bit. The biggest weakness on this bass is the pick guard. It feels pretty cheap and doesn't look great up close. I had to tighten up the mounting screws to keep it from buzzing when I play the higher strings. It still isn't perfect, and needs a third screw by the bridge pickup. I might just try putting a piece of foam under the pick guard right there. Otherwise, the bass looks and feels great and sounds greatJared

I bought a "used" white Hofner Club from ProAudioStar a few weeks ago. This was actually my third "used" Hofner from them. The other two were Hofner Shorty basses. Every "used" bass comes shipped and packed as new – every time! Both Shorty's were perfect, needing no adjustments. The white Club fretted out all along the first fret. I liked the bass enough not to return it but instead took it to my local luthier who was able to fix the neck, reset a fret or two and file and dress a fret or two. The bill came to $55 and ProAudioStar reimbursed me that money. The bass is fantastic, very close to my German Club both acoustically and when plugged in. The only real difference is the German bass has a zero fret and the Chinese one doesn't. Keep that in mind when you buy strings for the Chinese Club – it needs an extra inch fr the binding clears the nut. I plan on touring with this bass this fall. In short, thes basses are a great value and sound and play very well and ProAudioStar stands behind their products.miguel404
