I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve
The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!Josh
I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. Between the tuning stability, the tension, the reliability, the playability and the string life, you cannot go wrong with these for baritone tunings!Daniel

About $10 too pricey but it does what it says it will do. Most of your tuning problems will be be over, especially if you do what I did on my SG… Tusq XL nut, Grover tuners and a Wilkinson roller bridge. That may seem a bit overboard but if you're frustrated enough by tuning issues, you'll try anything. In the end, it was worth it… Ridiculously playable and stable guitar. I have only used the pre-D'Addario-branded version of the Planet Waves Auto-trim Tuners, so I can't speak for how they might be post-D'Addario. That said, I have four guitars equipped with these tuners, and they work fabulously! I have used the 3-and-3 and 6-inline variants in gold and chrome, with no problems whatsoever. I will be buying more for my newest guitar. I highly, highly recomment these tuners! There is one small quirk to be aware of: When installing a new set of strings (particularly the plain strings), the locking post doesn't always grip the string properly. Sometimes the plain strings will slide off the side of the locking post, and when you go to stretch the strings, they pop out, and you're out a brand-new string. However, the good news is that there is a very easy workaround. When installing a plain string, hold it tightly at the top of the stringhole in the tuner (pulling it away from the front of the guitar). As you tighten the locking post, you should see the string bend downwards on each side of the hole (bending down towards the front of the guitar). If you see that, they're locked in properly, and you shouldn't have any problem. A very simple solution to a very minor problem with a very great set of tuners.Big Fan

After getting the strings locked in, cut off and initially in tune, if you remotely try to stretch/bend the strings and then retune unless you hold the string around the 1st fret to help secure the string, it pops out "every" time. I just used the old hold it at the first fret all these years, but now I'm getting very aggrevated that I am ruining strings because they keep popping out and are useless when they are brand new strings. Sure they hold tune outstandingly after all the strings are all stretched out but getting to that point is about pointless with these things. Cheap stock tuners off a $100 guitar at least hold the strings while bending/stretching and if your gotta tune between songs, then tune between songs. When I pulled the guitars out of their cases again I plugged them into the tuner to tune them, and they hadn't moved even half a semi-tone, even the one with the tremolo bridge (not double locking). I then grabbed my guitar that didn't have them installed and it was severely out of tune (by about 2 1/2 steps [5 semitones]). I highly recommend getting these on any guitar, NOT just for tremolo. It is a HUGE time saver, and you don't have to worry about the strings slipping while installing new ones in. Better than any locking tuner, you just have to measure the string to the second peg above the one you're using, cut it and put it in. When you get to the unwound ones, clip a little shorter (can't tell you how to measure, I figured it out by trial and error. I would estimate 3 wraps by sort of wrapping it loosely, then cut). Perfect match to the vintage F tuners made on the great strats of yore, you can age them to match by fuming the finish with muriatic acid. Place the tuners on an upside down bowl in a piece of tuperware with an inch or so of acid. Seal the lid. Place in a bath of hot water, and the acid will heat and evaporate. After 10 – 15 minutes check the level of chrome removal. You can always do more, but you can't easy put chrome back on. Rinse with cold water when you're done. RAWK ON!!!!ki_jaybones
I love these tuners. They look cool, they hold tune well. I would not upgrade to these for any guitar that doesn't already have them. Use these for repair/replacement only if you have a guitar that comes with these machines (Eric Clapton, 50s reissue strats). American standards, deluxe and mexican strats all use a different mounting method and have a different peg hole size which is why they provide you with those bushings. If you use these to replace the stock Ping tuners you must be able to drill and tap the machine screw mounting holes. The bushings do not set tight in the existing tuning machine peg hole. I used a drop of super glue to hold the bushings in place to the head. I did use these to make a black MN MIM strat look more like Eric's blackie, so it is not impossible to use them, just know you will have to drill new screw holes and tap them for mounting. Be very careful to not drill all the way through the head and with brass mounting screws. There are no extra screws. It is very easy to bur the brass phillip screw heads beyond use. After your holes are drilled use a pick guard screw to thread hole, then use the provided mounting screw for the tuning machine. I drilled and tapped holes to install one machine at a time to more easily manage alignment of machines from one to the other. After I was done it looked factory issue and worked the same. I put a drop of oil between the peg and bushing before stringing to ease peg binding against the bushing.
I build custom Strat/Tele's so this may not apply to all but…. Like others said this peg uses press-fit front bushing style similar to low cost Squire Strat. For standard diecast pegs I drill 10 mm diameter holes on peg head. I use aftermarket necks with 8 mm diameter hole (I remember it is same as low cost Squire). What I do on 8 mm holes for this peg is I drill 4 mm deep 23/64 (9.1 mm??) diameter counterbore holes to accommodate the bushings. I strongly recommend using drill press not hand drill for this. Also for a better support of peg shaft, I made Teflon sleeves to fill the peghead holes of 8 – 10 mm with silicone grease. One minor issue I have is peghead of some aftermarket Tele neck is a little undersized so I need to file the end peg (High E) a bit to fit.Basement Blues

These are beautiful and easy to install (installed on a Gibson Les Paul Studio) and the tuners are very smooth and accurate. However, as I have read in several other reviews, the high E and to a lesser extent the B string tuners will not lock properly with lighter gauge strings. If you are using 9's or 10's you will need to wrap those strings in order to get a proper lock. This somewhat defeats the purpose of having locking tuners. If it were not for the fact that these tuners are absolutely gorgeous, I would be hesitant to recommend them. The other issue is that the locking knobs do feel slightly flimsy to me – I say they feel because they may be perfectly robust, but compared to other brands of locking tuners that I use, they just don't seem solid enough. If you can live with these issues, then I think you will be happy with these tuners. They are definitely stunning in appearance – especially the open gear version – but time will tell if they hold up mechanically.greenback44
The tuners have a 10mm sleeve to make sure your guitar has the correct sized headstock or you will be reaming it to size. The included ump system did not work on my Yamaha Pacifica 012. The factory holes in the headstock were too far apart to mount more than 2 tuners at a time. They do come with screws and a mounting hole so that is how I had to attach them. It worked but it required drilling new pilot holes and screwing the tuners down. The tuners were staggered and I was able to remove the factory string tree. They are smooth and very precise so tuning to your desired pitch is easy. The locking pins made my string change a breeze. They hold the strings in tight without pinching the thinner strings like my Fender tuners do. High quality fit and finish as well. Beautiful tuners.bike-fi-guy

I have used these strings for 3 or 4 years now they're really good I chose them because of the size and I found out that they are awesome. Not one ever broke on me as I did expect the 10 to from the speed and pressure I used sometimes. My particular style is metal, the strings work great for that. They are highly pliable. I am a bender and the tuning I think does not go out too much after the stresses I place on the strings. I have used deep standard E standard C standard a also be dropped down tuning no problem with any of the strings at all the sound is crisp and clear it's not a muddy sound and it's not a tinggi sound from the strings like a steel Acoustic sound.Big Mac
These strings work pretty much as advertised. They let you tune absurdly low without sacrificing note clarity or integrity… not perfectly, but reasonably. They also stay in tune remarkably well with little to no breaking-in.Regular DR 10's can handle my guitar tuned down 1 1/2 steps with no problems, but anything beyond that is flub territory and intonation is out by as much as a full half-step. With the DDT 10's, I can go 3 steps down and they still sound tight. If you check with a tuner, the intonation isn't quite right, but the difference is negligible to the naked ear. It's hard to break a DDT string. They are noticeably tougher than your average set of 10's. The feel is quite nice at 1 steps and lower though. They're surprisingly easy on the fingers. You don't have to pick hard to get heavy attack. They just exude brutal tone.Their quality stands true to the DR name. Definitely worth a try if you plan on experimenting with extremely low tunings. They can make your 6-string sound like a 7-string… only it'll still feel like a 6-string!Strizzwald
I typically play a half step down, sometimes drop C#. Guitar I have set up for that was giving me some occasional open string buzz in drop C#, but I didn't wanna go to a higher gauge because I like to be able to go to E standard once in a blue. I got these strings hoping to tune to Dropped-C or Dropped-C#. They get tight at Dropped-B. If you plan on using them for Dropped-A (anything lower than that is just ridiculous), Dropped-Ab, or Dropped-B, these are good for that. The lowest string tends to sharpen when played on the frets higher than the 7th though. Otherwise they're fine, and it takes FOREVER for any of the strings to die. I've had them for 4 months and they still play just as well as they did when I got them. The sound is great… just get them if you plan to tune really REALLY low.
these sound incredible at the B and A range. Particularly A because they are so thick. I dont play in F but they still hold tune and tension amazingly. They sound sharp and are very lively strings. Im going to try the 10-60 next week. the 65 gauge is a little to big for versatility. I plan on buying a third guitar and that will have these strings designated to it.Reza

I use these for tuning down to B standard and they are perfect with or without a tremolo. They feel firm enough, but not too tight and make for easy shredding. I wouldn't suggest going lower than B standard, but they would probably still hold the up well in A# or even A standard. I don't tune down lower than B and wouldn't know how well they do going lower. I get a lot of good old school death metal tones with these stings. I've tried a lot of different strings and these are the only ones that really are made for lower tunings. They do their job, sound great and last a very long time. It's very simple really. You put them on, stretch them out a little, tune up and you're in knee deep in metal \m/Foul Phil
I first used DDTs on my 4 string bass. I put this particular set on a Peavy Strat clone and it's sitting in BEADC right now will full string tension. Of note is the need for less extra string on the lower two since the "EAD" (or BEA in my case) are fundamentally light bass strings and you probably won't have enough room for a proper wrap due to the smaller machine heads.Jared

I have purchased this only for the engraved Kluson Delux on the back. and noticed the quality is worse than Wilkinson which made in Korea and Goto which made in Japan and Taiwan. even the price is not good as the competitors on the market. do not buy Kluson again. it's my advice to myself51nocaster
I MUCH prefer these over the stock ping tuners that came with my classic series 60's strat…unfortunately I didn't read the fine print that said "uhhh btw, you have to buy our adapter's SEPARATELY in order to fit modern guitars"….So I just spent probably 4 hours trying to make these things work before reading that….Wasted so much time, why the h3ll didn't they just include the freaking adapters! Ugh!!!! Other than that….they're great, but I highly recommend checking your guitar, or just buying the adapters just in case.Nathan

I had an old Hondo II guitar that I got when I was younger for Christmas. I decided to rebuild it. These tuners are awesome! They look nice, are very tight and don't come loose easy, the 18:1 ratio makes for precise tuning. Solid mini sealed tuners by Gotoh, fit my Charvel perfectly. Came with all screws, bushings, and washers, I ended up using the original washers but was glad to have all the hardware. I've been using Gotoh tuning machines for many years. My absolute favorite Gotoh tuners are the 510 series. Precision, excellent build quality, perfect for and finish. These Gotoh SG381 models are very nice as well. I chose this particular set for an old Ibanez acoustic guitar because the footprint is exactly the same as the previous tuner.
