With a better wireless guitar controller (which took me a while to get used to but now I love it!) and updated graphics and effects, Rockband remains true to what made these games so great (unlike GH Live, seriously that game sucks). Rock band has surpassed itself with its latest version of the Rock Band Stratocaster. No clacky strum bar that ruins play, this time has even improved on previous models, that compared to the racket made by Guitar Hero peripherals is playable without having to use noise cancelling headphones. And because the neck buttons are quite subtle it also looks like a real guitar. OK one that's 3/4 the size. My new fave guitar peripheral.houndofculaine

So there's a few things I liked about this game. They changed the guitar so that way for people like me who can't reach the orange button, now I can reach all the buttons on the guitar. There's the regular version to unlock all of the songs they have Guitar Hero TV where people can play online and you can play other songs then the ones on the game. The reason I only have it 3 stars is the actual guitar itself. My guitar was not working well so we returned it and got a newer one. This one now the strum doesn't really work that well at all. Sometimes down works and it doesn't. So majority you have to strum up but, again works sometimes. Now it has to be returned a second time. So for an anticipated game, game was awesome. Will have to say I was surprised by this game. Being a long time player of the guitar hero games and mastering them to a high level I thought this was going to be a breeze. I was wrong. The 6 button layout is rather deep allowing complex chords at higher difficulties and the overall game play is fun and adds a new dimension to the genre. I thought i wasn't going to like the realistic visuals approach but this didn't matter in the end as the actual story mode this is used in is really short and can be completed in a few hours. The GHTV mode is where I have had the most fun as playing the random collection of songs was keeping me entertained and has a much larger selection of music which is going to be added to over time. The only problem with this mode is its free-to-play model. Where you need to earn coins to buy plays to play the songs you want otherwise you have to wait for them in rotation. This may sound horrible but its not too bad in the beginning as plays are easy to earn as your low levels increase. But after about level 10 you will have to rely on the coins to be able to get your plays. Overall I enjoyed the game and if they keep adding new music to GHTV to play whilst earning coins to play the songs you want, this model isn't too bad. I would recommend this to anyone looking to play a new guitar hero game, but if your all about playing the same songs over and over to increase your score and go for perfect runs it might not be the title for you.Bawhawhaw

Ubisoft includes a variety of old classics, modern hits and everything in between. There's also an "arcade" section to work on things like chords, string picking, slides, and more. Tons of songs to download from your favorite artists and add to your library (additional cost). It's CRITICAL that you include the "Real Tone" cable to be truly effective. I've played guitar for over forty years and though I don't feel like I am learning anything from playing the game, I can see how someone new to playing guitar could surely benefit greatly from it. I would recommend this to someone who is serious about wanting to learn. The initial stages are kind of boring for those who already know how to pick or can find notes on the neck. Newcomers to guitar or bass (this version needed a $10 addon for bass), will welcome the slow pace and have a great feeling of accomplishment when they complete a song. The only gripe is that tacking on this game is greatly improved if the audio is sent directly to a receiver instead of through the TV's HDMI port. You get lessons, arcade style games to help teach you technique, and of course the best part….songs to play along with! Not to mention there are tons of songs you can download from Ubisoft and expand your music collection, and they are reasonably priced. The songs provided are great, and they scale to your skill level so it doesn't have to be too hard or too easy, it will remember and scale to you! Of course you can always turn off the dynamic difficulty and crack up the toughness and try to see if you can keep up with the pros =) The game also has split-screen multiplayer, so you can play lead while a friend plays rhythm or bass. One of the great things about the cable is it's universal, meaning you can use it on Xbox, PS4, PC, etc., so you can always take your cable and guitar to your friends house without having to worry what platform they are on. In my opinion, this game was alright. The drums got in the way though – probably because I'm so used to playing guitar hero, and have grown fond of playing lead guitar. Either way, the drums end up seeming bulky, always in the way, and cumbersome to move, not to mention put together. They also need a stool of some sort, and built in silencers would be nice, as opposed to having to shell out another 15-30 bucks for a generally mediocre game you already pay 180 bucks for in stores. Graphics are wonderful, though the characters move a little on the funky side (they're movements are just odd, sometimes). It's much better than games like guitar hero character-wise, though, that's for sure. And another saving grace is the fact that playing drums, and even the guitar sometimes helps with actually playing the real instruments. The game in general is a good one, but honestly, the creators should have chosen better songs for it. Some just aren't the catchiest of tunes, and others are just a chore to play because of how boring they are. A couple key songs make it an alright game in general. But it's best enjoyed when playing with a group of people. Otherwise, don't waste your time, nor your money. Get Guitar Hero, or better yet, get a real guitar (bass or otherwise), drum set, or microphone and learn how to play/sing the songs you actually like.dee06247

I had heard good reviews about Rock Band, with a few accounts of defective products, so I was a bit nervous about wether everything would work or not. However, upon setting it up (only took around 10 minutes, mainly for the drums – no tools needed), everything worked perfectly! After migrating over from Guitar Hero, I found most of the songs (the starting ones plus a few unlocked ones) quite easy, even on Expert. The drums were a bit harder, but after playing several songs, I was able to move up to the Meduim level without too much difficulty. The Hard level is still a bit challenging, but it doesn't appear impossible. The guitar that came with it is a lot lighter than both the Guitar Hero II and III Guitars, and also a slight bit biger, but I like the look of it. I was also pleased to find automatic settings to calibrate the timing for my TV (plasma and HD TVs sometimes have a slight lag between the video and audio). As for gameplay, everything is very smooth and clean, even with nearly a full band playing (everyone but the singer). All in all, this game is great fun, which is multiplied when there is more than one person. I can already tell it's going to be perfect for parties. However, if there is only one person you're buying it for, I would recommend Guitar Hero III, since a good chunk of the fun is from multiplayer (not that solo mode is bad). Rock Band is what Guitar Hero was a few years back, a refreshing take on a tired genre. The guitar plays more like a real guitar with its buttons down in the fret board rather than on top like Guitar Hero. Its whammy bar is in an easier to use place. However its not as thickly made as Guitar Hero's and the plastic doesn't seem as strong. Slight bends of the neck or body sound like its about to break. Its strum bar is more forgiving as well but many from the first shipments have broke and free replacement guitars are being shipped. The drums are the closest thing you are going to get to a real electric set at about 1/4 the price. The game will over the course of weeks teach you how to play the basics of rock drums. The microphone is a real mike is all metal construction makes it feel very good and compared to other mikes is thee best you can use with the game. It spans all rock from the 60's to today plus weekly songs to download and buy means there will always be a reason to come back and play. The game gives a great vibe and joy for all who are playing. Even if someone isn't as good at the game the other players can bring them back up to 3 times to keep the music going. So friends and family who are adversed to games will feel comfortable playing. If you can front the bill for this big ticket item its a must buy. If you can't afford it split the price with as many people until you can afford it. Loved playing guitar hero again. Guitar controllers worked with no issues. I adjusted the audio and visual lag from the game itself and I had no problems with the timing of buttons after that. I suggest guitar hero 3 for these controllers 🙂p-hhog-dze0har

I read that you can use the older Rock Band guitar controllers with the PS4. This is only partially true. They will play the songs but don't control the menu system. You really do need the new Guitar controller for the PS4 to get the full benefit of the game. Still got my old PS3 for all the Guitar Hero & Rock Band games I ownokmartin24

Bought this for my son for his birthday and we had issues with connecting the controller to the Xbox at first. Then after that had more issues with guitar. Finally just returned it all. Thank goodnessmotherofonespecialboy1

Rock Band has been my favorite game for years. Adding the Rock Band 4 Pro-Cymbals Expansion Drum Kit has made it a brand new challenge. I love this game even more now.lucidjeff66

I recently purchased Rock band 4 for Xbox one. I have owned all previous rock band games but only ever used the standard drums. There is a little assembly required to get it all hooked on to the drum stand. Once clipped on the cymbals all plug in with color coded plugs so that is easy. It took me a few songs to get the heights right for each one but a simple twist and they can be adjusted. When I loaded the first song there is no extra setup in game just select pro drums and away you go. They really do add a lot to the game play. If your like me most songs on expert are easy enough but with the pro options it was a definite learning curve but breathed new life into the game. I highly recommend these to anyone.janwillem

I love this item, as I can use all my old Xbox 360 equipment. The only issue is it only allows one person to log in, the Xbox sees the adapter as one person. So your band mates don't get achievement credits and such while playing.lordgoodfellow

Didnt work at first but after I updated rock 4 software and set it up facing the set it worked flawlessly. Madkatz company is gone apparently so dont expect any support…boattoy123
