For many years, I've heard how great the Kemper is, but the price was a bit daunting. So, I went through different rigs, looking for specific tones. When I needed a different tone, I needed to change my rig. So, I decided to try the modeling rigs. The problem with the modeling rigs is that they are software representations of how the developers/programmers "think" the amp is going to react. For the most part, they do a pretty good job. The downside is that when the modeler gets older, and the development stops, you no longer have any updates, or any new amp models. This is NOT the case with the Kemper. The Kemper is not a modeler, it's a profiler. You profile an amp, and you have the sound in your Kemper. The sound is generated from the Kemper's profiling, which means that it is NOT guitar specific. It comes with a ton of built in effects, so that you can get any sound you are looking for. You basically have a unit that is "future-proof". If an amp comes out in a couple of years, you can profile that amp, and have it in your arsenal. If you think about it, it's pretty much the cheapest amp head on the market, because it's essentially EVERY head on the market. The 3rd party vendors, selling profiles is amazing. You can find any amp that you could ever want. This is the best choice I've ever made. The sound quality blows away anything I have played through before. Simply amazing. I played with a $3k pedalboard and a $1200 amp that equaled about 120 lbs of gear. Now I play with $900 worth of pedals (the remote, mission pedal, and a wireless), a $1800 amp at about 35 lbs. The difference now, besides the $$$ saved and weight, is the tone has way more versatility. I am able to play profiles of amps that are worth way more than the kemper and switch guitars without having to tweak much. Its a stellar piece of gear out of the box. I play semi-professional. Recently purchased the Kemper after owning the Axe Fx basic model. Although there are a lot of features the layout is so simple and intuitive that I was able to make adjustments, firmware updates and amp favorites sections in seconds. literally that easy. These types of steps were much more cumbersome if not downright difficult with the Axe Fx. On to the Amp Profiles- well they're not models- each title feels like a breathing reacting amplifier- you literally get 300 to play with right out of the box- but to my amazement, I downloaded the rig manager and was able load into my Kemper another 15 dream amps that the kemper community had posted. By the way, this was 15 out of over 5,500 other amp choices to load! The tones I was able to create in a very short time had me shaking my head. Each amp can be tweaked and the range of tone is amazing. I was able to adjust any amp to a point where i was capturing a great sound and then of course could save that snapshot immediately. I feel that the technology in the Kemper finally has captured what many others have attempted in the amp modeling field. The Kemper is in a class of it's own. This is a good little amp especially for the price. It can get pretty loud and drives 8 ohm, 4 ohm, or 2 ohm configurations. The only thing I wish it had was a mono input and output for doing live music. With this unit you have right and left input and corresponding outputs and if the right input is plugged in no sound comes out of the left which is a little annoying if you have limited outputs from your system or console. This would be resolved with a 4 or 8 channel mixer to have more inputs and outputs then a console has but for the price it is a good unit and sounds clean and has a relatively low noise floor. In other words you don't hear static coming through the speakers at any volume especially when the volume is lower.hanshi_55

Picked up this amp, didn't need too much power as it was for a small room. What a great value. Amp sounds great, plenty of power, looks fabulous, and has two cooling fans. It can take some abuse as well. Ran the Amp for 6 hours during a Karaoke party with not one issue. Would recommend for anyone looking for a great price on a smaller power amp.caulkett2007

It's not often you buy something cheap and get good quality. In this case I purchased a audio power amp for d.j.ing to replace an amp that failed. I was totally surprised with this amp. Well built, powerful quiet, well ventilated, clean , well packed. In other words way beyond what I expected for what I paid. I have several power amp that always work in pairs. I've wanted the JP-2C ever since it came out, and I am not disappointed! This thing is a beast. The cleans are pristine and the high gains are incredibly tight and edgy. I can't believe how powerful the 5-band EQ's are. You can literally reshape your sound with just the slightest adjustment, which is incredible. I also have the TC-100, which I love. I'd say the TC may be slightly more versatile in the high gain and crunch sounds it provides, but if you want the Petrucci high gain sound, nothing beats the JP-2C!John

We get actually good sound out of this amp, but not a lot of it. I have to crank them up higher than i would like to keep from having to push my faders all the way up. We use lots of channels on our board and I try to keep the gains set low so as not to push the mix into clipping. Even with judicious pans and gains, I have to be careful not to push too much aggregate. So the signal needs some help from the amp and this one is adequate. So, overall, A on sound quality; A+ on price, B on power.michaelmays

Got the 6L6 5150 Black Stealth last fall…it is incredible but there was something about this EL34 after watching several demos and deciding it needed to be home with its 6L6 Brother. The EL34 cleans are crystal like and pristine! Channel 2 has that grit, warmth, clarity yet buttery rock goodness! Channel 3 is excellent to round out and take the lead. This amp has been great in inspiration, performance and recording. It was more than I hoped for even with the positive reviews and demos. It is easy to dial in a sweet tone. In fact, I have done so blindly and it just makes each note resonate and stand out. I have it running through a JCM 1960 A cab. Together, they RAWK! Another awesome thing about this amp is the headphone jack for late night practice and you can get sweet tones without shaking the house unlike other amps of this nature. The green (clean) channel on this amp through the 2×12 cabinet is absolutely incredibly. Expressive, responsive, articulate, and full of character. I recently tried out a Divided by 13 LDW amp and was blown away by the clean tone. I had always considered myself a Fender/6V6 person until that point. That amp was already sold, was twice the price, and is impossible to come across. This amp is the only one I could find that has both the EL34s and 12AX7s, and has that same unique clean tone that's somewhere between a Marshall and Fender in all the right ways. I could do without the red channel entirely, and would prefer to have separate eq controls for the green and blue channels, but easy enough to compensate with a tone knob.Faisal

For classic rock lovers looking for those delicious, Super Lead Plexi-type tones (think classic rock from the 60's and 70's–Hendrix, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Aerosmith, etc.), this amp is for you! I am totally blown away with this amp for the price. I'm glad I pulled the trigger when I did because this amp is now $150.00 more than what I spent. I had a hard time deciding between the 50W and the 20W versions. I went with the 50W to have more clean head room, but would have been just as happy with the 20W head. And who plans to play a Marshall clean anyway? 😀 Most who purchase a Marshall are planning to crank for crunch, although you can get some nice clean tones and all that jazz :-D. The only downside with the 50W version is that you will have to bias the amp if you ever replace/swap the tubes. The 50W is not cathode/self-biasing like the 20W head, so plan on $30-$60 to bias your amp with a tube swap unless you have the equipment and know-how to bias yourself. This amp is extremely loud, even with the mid-power setting! Oh my heck is it loud! I'm running this head through an EVH EL34 2×12 with Celestion G12H 30W Anniversary speakers. Holy wow, awesome, and loud! 😀 To save your ears and keep your family and neighbors happy, I'd advise using an attenuator or power soak. With the Marshall Origin, to get those nice, crunchy, classic Marshall tones, you really have to crank the master volume to around 6-8 to saturate the power tubes and then also dial in your preamp gain to around 6-10. We're talking loud, loud, loud without an attenuator! For a very affordable power soak option, go with the Bugera PS1 (under $100.00), which will allow you to crank (even dime) this Marshall to get all those classic Marshall tones without blowing your brains out. Note–this is not a high gain Marshall amp. It's a classic rock Marshall, but it takes pedals extremely well for those wishing for more high-gain territory.AJ

This is an amazing amp! Not only is it affordable, but it's so versatile! I like to dial in an edge of breakup tone so that by rolling back the volume pot on my Guitar I have pristine cleans, roll it up for that classic "crunchy," biting clean. This amp also LOVES pedals, so when I want more gain I can step on the blue channel of my Friedman BE-OD Deluxe. Even More gain = the second channel on the BE-OD Deluxe with the mids ever so slightly cut back (now we're getting into the hard rock/metal territory). And if that's not quite heavy enough to serve a particular sound, well the internal foot-switchable boost adds a nice extra oomph. The EHX Metal M*ff is great for those extreme levels of gain (contrary to other reviews, this amp is perfectly capable of doing Metal if you utilize your favorite dirt pedals). And the effects loop is wonderful! Reverbs, Delays, Modulations…they sound great through the loop! Even on the lowest power setting, this amp is very LOUD, because that highly sought after power amp distortion that makes a Plexi so desirable demands to be heard!! Is this a Plexi? Of course not, but that magical characteristic of genuine Marshall tone is quite convincing in the Origin! IMHO, for the price, this is as close as you will ever get, and it is fantastic! If you want a good, reliable, LOUD amp with the versatility to cover all your needs, and don't want to spend 5x's as much, well this IS what you have been wishing you could find!Shasal

Great amplifier, especially for the money. First of all it is an amazing pedal platform amp with nice bass and mid response. Everything I've run into it sounds really good, and it's near breakup gain is gain on 10 and boost off. It is most like a JTM45, it has a lot more bass and more active tone controls than later Marshall amplifiers like the JCM900 I previously owned. It doesn't overdrive too much on its own, but if you push it with a booster, it does pretty well. It is loud, even in the low power setting, and to really get it to drive, you need to push the power amp. It also doesn't seem to have as much drive as I remember from trying a 50 watt version, but that may have been the guitar more than the amp. Great value, I would recommend it to anyone looking for what I just described. If you want something that sounds like a Super Lead, Super Bass, or JCM800, this is not the right thing to buy. If you want a great pedal platform or early Marshall sound, you can't beat it.Craig

I've had My Marshall Origin for about 6 months and I've been pleasantly surprised. I've been a Les Paul/Marshall guy for 40 years and I have the hearing loss to prove it but this Marshall has it all. This versatile 20 watt head is the perfect combination of versatility and guts.This Amp is perfect for pedals as it great grand daddies were, I use an J Rockett Archer Ikon Klon clone, An OCD a Tone City King of Blues and an original Electro harmonics LPB-1 booster. I can go from crystal clear bell like tones to Ace's plexi grind to the verge of jCM 800 tones or straight in crank the Gain and get that sweet traditional Marshall tone and attack. Unlike the Marshalls of old the EQ section greatly influences the color of this Head and along with the tilt control which replaces the need to jump channels from the Hi and Lo inputs its all there. The addition of the switchable effects loop is a huge plus as is the gain/Boost control which gives you that little extra edge for leads. Running the amp on full and using your guitars volume and tone controls gives you a lot of versatility as well. The adjustable power out put feature is nice for quiet practice but I prefer to use my Bugera PS-1 attenuator and keep my amp volume on 10, just a personal preference. A suggestion, I've used this head with 1×12 and 2×12 cabinets an it sounds good but when i finally plugged it into a 4×12 this amp took on a whole new personality. The 4×12 let this amp breathe and with the EH LPB-1 driving the front end and a little reverb I had ACE's Kiss alive tone dead on by using the gain boost and a little color from various pedals the tone possibilities a vast. All in all this amp would be a great deal at twice the price, marshall once again did it right.Miggs

I have owned several amps in the last 40yrs. Always looking for "that tone" and never quite found it. Peavey's a Marshall and a Carvin. The last being a 100W head. And with all of them and a line 6 floor pod, was never happy. I am so happy with this head on my 4×12 marshall cab that all I have used the floor pod for is the tuner. I'm sure at some point I will probably use the pod for some effects, but for what I mostly play its not really needed. Of course there are many things that can effect this so ill just give a short list of the main guitars I use and the pickups. Gibson Les Paul with Slash Seymour Duncan's, wired 50's and a Gibson 137 all stock. I no longer play out so the 100w Carvin was just not good in my basement. Couldn't push it to the point of natural breakup in a confined space. This amp goes from almost crystal clean to a beautiful natural saturation. And the dirty channel picks up where the clean leaves off and goes to the verge of metal. Throw a overdrive pedal in the mix and there isn't much you couldn't play on the fly.Brad B

I have had it for a week and love it. It goes from super clean to full on metal overdrive. Price was good—delivered quick. Seems well built enough. The only thing I would change is to give the clean / classic channel some crunch so i could go from a light crunch to a heavy lead sound when switching channels because the clean channel is clean even when fully cranked. The DSL100 has a crunch option on the clean channel so it would be nice to have it here as well. But you can use the ultra gain channel and use the guitar volume to clean it up etc. I assume the clean channel would take pedals well from other reviews I have seen. Overall it rocks and gets really loud. Gig-able I think. Highly recommended.Tuckerman

I bought 2 of these heads to drive Marshall MX12 cabinets. I was previously using 2 Marshall DSL40CR combo amps. I thought I could save space by having the small heads instead. I was wrong. FYI, the DSL40CR amps sound great (mine are upgraded with Creamback speakers). First off, the amps both had horrific white noise when you turned up the reverb. 2) one amp made some weird static noise when you moved your hand around the face plate, touching the face plate actually changed the tone. I have never in my almost 30 years of using guitar amps had this. 3) The amps sounded thin and tinny. To the point they were unusable. I returned them for a refund and when both amps arrived at Musicians Friend, they stated that they only received one amp (although both amps arrived the same day). A day later the 2ne amp was marked as received. I received one amps refund on Saturday, and now I guess I have to wait till Monday for the second refund. What a joke. BTY, I also ordered a brand new EHX pedal when I bought the amps and they sent me a used one instead! Musicians Friend is such a joke now a days it's sad.MLM

Recently bought this thing after saving up for months. I pretty much ripped it out of the box, plugged it in, powered it on, went through the very quick and simple setup process, and in minutes it was ready for use. I’ve now had it for a few days and already it has made my life a ton easier. Being a musician that goes on the road a lot, carrying around an amp can be a huge hassle. The Kemper eliminates that hassle, while also maintaining an amazing tone. A few things to keep in mind, though:

1. It doesn’t create an EXACT carbon copy of your amp, but it comes EXTREMELY close, so close in fact that I, having played guitar for around 7 years, can barely tell the difference, and the very microscopic differences there are, are nothing that can’t be ironed out with small tweaking to the EQ, specifically the high end

2. The volume may vary depending on how the venue has their sound system set up, so that’s something to be mindful of. You may switch on and blow eardrums at some places, or you may switch on and barely hear anything in other places, so be mindful of that.

3. You will have an amazing tone, so just be mindful of that as well. Even the stock profiles sound great, but the Kemper is taken to a whole new level once you start using your own profiles, as well as commercially sold profiles, such as the ones from Tone Junkie.

The built in Performance mode also allows for a seamless switch between up to five different rigs at the click of a button, which would be impossible to do using only analog gear.

The Kemper can be a pretty big learning curve, though, especially for people like me, who have used analog gear for years, and were even leery of making the switch to digital at first. But after the initial learning curve and getting familiar with it, I promise you will be glad you made the switch.Brandon Johnson

I bought the 600w version after a ton of research and inner debate. I had solid state rack stuff in the early 90's and hated it. It always had something missing from the tone, it seemed shallow and fake. I turned into a die hard tube guy after that. I pledged never to buy any computer amp ever again. I dismissed the Kemper at first. But once I saw some videos and heard some profiles, I was a little interested. I couldn't get past buying a computer and having 1000's of tones at the turn of a knob. Once I heard it live, thru a cabinet in a rehearsal space, I was floored and very surprised. My friend went from a 68 Marshall to a 6505 to a Fender Twin Reverb with a turn of a knob in seconds. I've owned very expensive tube amps with very distinct tone signatures I thought could not be replicated. I was 100% wrong. I profiled my Engl head and did a blind test to see if I could tell the difference in tone once I shaped it up. I honestly couIdn't tell the difference. When I guessed, I picked the Kemper 4 out of 5 times. I went to the rig exchange and found a profile that was reasonably close to a 59 plexi. I tweaked it for 10 minutes. Within that 10 minutes, I saved thousands on a new tube amp. The Kemper is a perfect fit for the skeptic. There's a million forums and tutorials out there so you'll never feel lost. Once you learn the menus and how to dial in a tone or profile an amp, you're hooked. This is the most versitle amp I've ever owned. I am completely satisified.Rob

Like the title says, you can find 1000's of these for sale used and there's good reason for that. It doesn't sound like tube at all. I think it's good for the studio where I've used one. But live? If you're fine with a solid state head, then fine. The modeling really isn't any better than higher end Line 6 modeling. This past labor day, Great White was playing a festival near by. They had a total of 8 Marshall 4×12's on stage with 4 DSL 100 heads. Not one of them was powered on. So I looked around for what they were going to use, I saw 2 Kemper Profiler heads. 1 for each guitarist. The sound was absolutely terrible. Neither amp sounded anything close to a Marshall or like tube for that matter. You could hear the cab emulation a mile away. At this price point go another direction. I ordered this amp because I just wanted something new. I have a carvin x100b, a line 6 240 modeling amp and an old 100 watt Yamaha from the 70s…. love all of them but this Randall is sweet. I like the 3 channels, the foot switch and the sound is very pleasing. However this amp is heavy but I dont play professionally so I am fine with that. It is nice that it comes with casters though. Very solid amp, very quiet just make sure you have good cables and the electronics in your guitar are operating correct.Karl C

Quality: This amp is EXTREMELY solid for it's ~$500 price-point. It truly is built to last and take some punishment while doing so. The soft finish WILL take damage fairly quickly, though. Other than the soft finish, the build quality is superb. Tone: The Green channel is very nice for a cheaper amp and takes pedals exceedingly well. The bright switch adds a noticeable and sparkly treble bump. The Red channel has an evenly saturated crunch that really holds it's own in moderate-gain riffing. The Blue channel's tone honestly disappointed me. It's very bass heavy and nasally and with a Duncan JB I could not get enough highs to show through for studio recording. Gain: This is a MODERATE gain amp. You can get some heavy crunch but, you will need a gain/boost pedal if you want heavy gain. Stage Ready? Yes. At 3/4 volume, having no trouble keeping up with a Crate Blue-Voodoo halfstack. I highly recommend this amp for bedroom and small-venue playing.Caleb B.

Sound: I run the eq bass-6, mid-5, treble-6. Mid scoop engaged. Bass boost on. It crushes!!! I prefer the red channel for rhythm. Features: Everything looks and works great. I was concerned about the box being made of particleboard. In my experience it seems that particleboard tends to suck some volume. That being said. This combo is beastly loud. I can't imagine how loud it would be with a solid birch plywood box. Ease of Use: Super easy to use. Nothing complicated about this thing. Quality: Only time will tell. It sounds great now. Value: Definitely worth the money. I knew the gain channels would sound good. I wasn't expecting the clean channel to sound so good though. Super crisp and punchy. Manufacturer Support: Factory support was good. zZounds return/exchange process was super painless. 2 weeks after getting my amp the master volume was giving me issues. Either the pot was bad or it was a bad solder job. I contacted zZounds and they send out a return label right away. I contacted Randall also because I believed it would be an easy fix and didn't really think it was worth the trouble and expense to exchange. Randall said they wanted to get it back to see if they had an issue with the manufacturing process. This was good to hear. They said they weren't just concerned with making my amp work right but trying to prevent this from happening to future purchasers. I got my new amp fast! Thanks zZounds! The Wow Factor: I have a pretty good collection of amps. I didn't NEED this amp but I love playing it and I'm glad I got it. Overall: I got this to transport in my car back and forth for writing sessions. At almost 100 lbs I didn't really think that one out. All I was concerned with was getting killer tone without hauling a half stack. I never expected this thing to be capable of such volume & clarity. Sounds killer for not being a tube amp! I did consider swapping out the speakers for some lighter ones but I have several cabs with various speakers (Vintage 30, Greenbacks, Greenback Heritage, EVM 12Ls) and I really preferred the stock speakers with this power section. This thing is definitely loud enough by itself to practice with a full band.Timmy

I use the Interblock 45 amp on a 12×18 pedalboard (for guitar practice in my office) where it shares space with a Vox MV50 Rock amp, 6 or 7 pedals, and a few small A/B switches, playing into a 1×12 cabinet with a Celestion Heritage Series G12H (30W, 8 ohms) speaker. I usually but not always use the I-45 as a clean channel and the MV50 as a dirty channel. I especially like that the I-45 has an effects loop. Gain, Volume, and EQ adjustments are nicely progressive. The 2 EQ voices are distinctly and usefully different; same goes for the FR/Cab settings. Thus far, jack connections are solid. Headphone output is decent; I have not tried the I-45 direct to PA or computer. The knobs feel a bit flimsy, but not enough so to make me open the case to see what might be done to stiffen them up. The I-45 sounds great, is quite versatile, works nicely with all my pedals, and easily fits on my pedalboard. I considered rating it 4 stars because of the knobs; at its price I decided it deserved 5 stars.Strain

First off this is NO ordinary solid state amp. Its class D power section provides an amazing replication of real tube feel, rectifier sag and tone. How Quilter did it I dont know but they did. Secondly after lugging heavy tube amps for 52 years of guitar playing, this 3 lb wonder is a huge relief. I have left all my tube amps home. One 12 inch speaker cab loaded with an Emminence Legend speaker and this 101 Mini Reverb Quilter and my condensed pedalboard and my Telecaster and I am ready to play. Dont be fooled by its size or weight. Its 50 watts are true tube level 50 watts. This little monster is a heavyweight champ. It gets real loud, I mean serious loud. I have been a devoted tube amp snob for all of my 52 years of playing guitar. NOT ANYMORE!! Its controls are laid out like a normal tube amp, the limiter control is nice, the mid knob makes a serious tonal difference and the reverb is very spring like. Give it a chance and you just might be as amazed as I amBluesman

Was on the fence for over a year on the Marshall DSL 1 Watt. Ended up getting a steal on a Blackstar HT1 head and went with that, which is a great amp but pretty quickly regretted not going with the DSL due to more range of EQ. Made the move for the DSL but decided to go up to a 5 watt due to Volume/Gain on the Classic gain setting. I have worked it for over a month now and extremely pleased with the purchase. The classic gain will not get a usable crunch for me but is an awesome clean channel for pedals, which it takes extremely well. The ultra gain, at low settings is great for classic rock. I am not much of a metal guy so really don't go for anything over noon on the ultra gain. I am not a big fan of the speaker, although it does sound much better after break in. I run it basically as a head into a 1 x 12 cab which has a 12 inch celestion 90th anniversary speaker, which sounds excellent. Will eventually swap out the internal speaker for a greenback. Lastly, I would highly recommend this amp to those on the fence between the 1watt and 5 watt. Actually, those dead set on the 1watt, take a pause and re-evaluate. I noticed minimal DB difference between my 1watt blackstar and 5 watt DSL that if concerned with volume issues, don't be. Even with 5 watt setting, the max DB is not much more than what I got out of the blackstar. With the .5 watt setting on the DSL, it was even lower for bedroom volume. The 5 watt is much better choice over the 1 watt simply due to the classic channel volume setting.Axel

Overall: This is a great practice amp with the onboard 10” speaker, and also sounds incredible when ran through my buddy’s 4×12 Marshall cabinet. If you don’t like the factory speaker, Celestion makes some very fine replacements you can pop in. If you want to play through a bigger stack, unplug the onboard speaker and run a cable from this combo to the stack. If you want that Marshall DSL tone, an amp from this line is definitely what you’re looking for. Some of the features that made this the right amp for me include:- low power mode: when engaged, I can dial the gain as high as I want without notifying the rest of my apartment complex that I’m rocking out. Conversely, don’t let the five watt power rating deter you if you’re after volume – you’ll definitely be able to cause a noise complaint if you so choose. The selling point for me, however, was being able to dial in that Marshall tone at a volume one can speak over. Whether playing with the hot EMGs in my Les Paul, the even hotter humbuckers in my Blacktop Jaguar, the 490s in my SG, or the comparatively quiet Texas Specials and Atomic humbucker setup in my Strat, the cleans are articulate and the distortion is wonderful. This amp also takes my pedals, including my variety of dirt pedals (EHX Big Muff Pi for fuzz, a modified Boss DS1 for distortion, and an EHX East River Drive for OD) like a champ.- included foot switch: This was a fantastic bonus. The cabling on it is sufficient in length to play practically anywhere and still be able to switch channels without running across the room.- onboard reverb: While I don’t use it often, it’s much more articulate than I was expecting. Not in the same class as my EHX pedal, but definitely a nice added feature.- emulated line out: This is fantastic. No need for a direct box, no mucking about with a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt interface when I want to jack in and record, no latency issues, and no mucking about with software effects to get my sound just right. A mini jack cable to the line-in on my laptop or DAW allows me to record my sound, off of my signal chain, with no issues whatsoever. I love it.- effects loop: this was something that my Orange Micro Terror lacked. While I don’t use it frequently, it is nice to have the option. Bottom line, if you want a worthy successor to the original Dual Super Lead in a package that won’t blow the roof off your house and would be sufficient for gigging small venues (which I have with this amp,) this is probably the amplifier for you. 5/5, would definitely recommend this or others from their DSL line.Mike

Not only does this 5 watt lil' monster have enough power to rattle the windows, it also has class! At only 9 lbs. the Bugera T5 Infinium has enough "UMFF" to push your favorite 4X12" cabinet into the stratosphere! It's better having this reverb built into this lil' madman than not having any at all. Just like 9/10 of the other amp heads in its class. The 1 channel, "all tube" head has warm cleans. Push in the PHAT switch and crank the volume and gain and you get saturated distortion that will blow you away! All of that in a 9 lb metal cage like package for only $200! What it's not: Not a $1k boutique tube amp. Not a mid-size club amp (unless you have great monitors and a good sound guy). What it is: A well designed, very affordable little monster that will give enough stage volume at 5W for rehearsals in a full rock band or small club, and will also allow you to drive the output stage at that 1W or 1/2W setting for recording at home. The amp sounds best at 5W and driven into either a 4ohm cabinet or two 8ohm cabs. If you use it to drive an 8ohm cab, you are getting only 70% of its potential. I only use el84 based amps. i love their dark, throaty sound, and while this amp doesn't have the punch or snap I get from my 15W custom built el 84 amps, it sounds great for rehearsal or recording. I am a little bit worried about long-term build quality. The input jack is plastic. I have a hard time seeing that surviving a year of rehearsals without breaking. This is a great supplemental amp for rehearsals and recording. Very smartly designed. Good feature set. And if you like the el84 style sound, it delivers it above expectations at this price range. In these days of small solid state, practice amps, this little amp gives you tube tone and more at a very affordable price. A 12ax7 preamp tube and an EL84 power tube provide the tone along with built in reverb, 2 band EQ, gain and a "phat" overdrive switch for added crunch. The three stage attenuator is a nice touch. The stock Bugera tubes are OK but I switched them out with Tung-Sols which provided a rich creamy overdrive more to my liking. Great sound when plugged into my Orange 8" or 12" cab plus headphone jack for late night playing. Great amp for the price!Isom

I had to make myself stop playing this Amp long enuf to write my review. This 30 watt 1 X 12 Celestion V30 Tube Stack simply Rocks my World! Bucket List item for me! Always wanted a Tube Stack with a creamy rich mid – range and a narly distortion channel. Foot switch turns reverb and overdrive on and off. 3 band EQ, 1/4" speaker cable. I love me some pedals and they blend well with this Amp. Quality build. Simply the best Amp my Guitars have played. Jazzmaster , Kramer and Mike Rowan all sound amazing. Very nice tones from this amp, clean or dirty! I have been using it mic’d with a 609 clone, haven’t had the chance to crank it yet. I use a roadhouse Strat and fine on the dirty channel with the gain at 5 I can get a great, clear cleanish tone, and then hit the Strats preamp and have some nice grit! Not fizzy fuzzy grit, but nice organic breakup that is very pleasing to the ear. I run a TC Plethora in the FX loop and get great results, no jump or drop in volume, just sounds natural. For some extra gain I use a Boss OD200 into the front of the amp, glorious!! Quite surprising that an amp of this build and sound quality is available at this price point but it is and I’m glad I pulled the trigger on it. Looks to be plywood for amp cab and speaker cab, nice touch. All this and a V30 speaker! I don’t know when or if the speaker will “break in” but I’ll be using the amp mic’d most of the time so it may take awhile, and honestly couldn’t imagine it sounding any better! Only had it a few days, and haven’t moved it since I set it up so I can’t speak for how long it will last in the long run, but fingers are crossed.Ronald

Just received my stack on 3/16/20. Packaged great!. Overall build quality is very very good no particle board here all real solid wood cabinet for the head , speaker with a nice ply baffle I think it's 3/4 ". Light weight. Asthetics ,cosmetics tolex and Grill cloth with piping perfect. Reverb is digital no tank or Springs here it is not tube driven. Bright switch works great pedal for Reverb and gain Channel works great extra-long cable to connect the head to the cabinet with power cord great. Clean tones on this amp whether a low or hi channel are amazing . kind of somewhere between vox/ marshall cleans. Definitely Fender sounding w bright switch. Gig Worthy!. Loud amp!. Digital Reverb is okay. You must turn it up to around 4 or 5 to hear it. It's clean channels are where this amp shines . On the gain channel, Ican get some good tones but not super high gain here more in the classic rock 1960- 1970's tone. Great but no super High gain. Kinda on the thinner side, Not very Fat. 3 chinese 12ax7, ( maybe a swap out in this area may give better tone), all 4 el84 Are Eurotube JJ'S!!!! So happy to see this. Celestion V30 spkr cab sounds great, full with depth. Classic rock tone!. Highly recommended..strange looking chinese power tnsfrmr, but Ot looks good. This thing has quickly become my go-to for home use and recording. Has an unbelievable sound for heavy stuff, and a pretty decent clean sound also. Sounds fantastic through my Marshall 212 cab and equally great when recording directly.AKJ

Overall: This amp is another example of Laney excellence. I have only until now had the pleasure of playing through one in a store last year. The clean channel sounds great even with pedals if you prefer pedals for overdrive and distortion. The distortion in this amp is hard to find fault with. My only recommendation is with using it with you DAW use a gate or denoiser. I used the one Pro Tools comes with and aola! Perfection. I also tested it's capabilities with a cabinet. Again A++ my only complaint was it was supposed to come with a gig bag and it wasn't in it and had to call zZounds but I was told they would order it if I didn't want to return the amp which I can't do.Jonathan

Overall: Perfect for recording in my home studio. Checked out both 1 and 15 watt inputs. The USB for direct recording and reamping works as advertised. Tonewise delivers the aggressive sounds I was looking for. Clean is nice, reverb and boost are great features as well. I am always looking for tones to separate me from the typical Marshall / Fender sounds.Solid build, controls feel tight and smooth. My only criticism is I would have liked a standby switch. Pushed at high volume with loud humbuckers it got a little noisy. Other than that I am highly satisfied with my purchase and the customer service provided by zZounds. The 12 month payment option is a great way to get the gear you want.David

I play noisy hard rock/punk/hardcore through a '81 LP Custom, '59 Reissue LP STD and '76 Fender Tele Deluxe. I have a cherry '85 JCM800 100w that I've cared for since the early 90's and was looking for a 2 channel in a smaller form factor that was still plenty loud. I originally bought the Soldano Hot Rod 25, and while it sounded great at lower volumes, I found it too compressed with not enough grunt when pushed to very loud volumes. It didn't fill the room the way my JCM800 could. I sent the HR back and picked up this Friedman. It's similar in nature to my JCM800, weighs about 20 pounds less which saves my back dragging it through the city to practice, and it sounds incredible cranked or quiet. Very responsive. Both channels sounds great. CH2 doesn't need it, but I was surprised at how great Ch2 sounds with some of the distortion pedals I have. I've gigged about 6 times with this amp and it really cuts the room. The lifetime warranty is an added bonus. At this price, it should have came with a slip cover.PTH

I can truly say after playing semi-professionally for almost 25 years that this is the best amp I've ever owned. I've had close to 60 amps: everything from the typical big names to the top boutique amps in every price range. Many were killer amps. But there has never been one, until now, that has let me honestly believe my search is over. Here's why: there's a huge difference between how an amp sounds at home or in the music store, and how it sounds, feels and performs on stage. I can get satisfactory, even excellent tones with cheap gear. But those same tones usually get lost in the mix or sound dull and thin in a live situation. In addition, while many high gain tones can sound big and intense and "wow" you at first, they lose a lot of dynamics because they're overly compressed. The Friedman Small Box sits in the mix like no other amp I've used. The mids are PERFECT. Both channels are voiced to cut through. Just put all the knobs at noon and go. There's not a bad sound in this amp. Channel one can get you into serious crunch, or it can have that mid-forward super clean EL34 tone that just punches through. It can get very clean, but the ability to add some gain makes your cleans come alive more. I actually prefer the Small Box clean to the cleans on the other Friedman amps (BE and Jerry Cantrell) that are much more expensive (in fact, price aside, this is hands down my favorite of the Friedmans). Channel two is absolutely amazing. At first I was surprised. It didn't have as much gain as I expected. Don't get me wrong, it's high gain. I just thought it would be more over-the-top. I'm glad it's not, because now I realize that any more gain would kill the dynamics. As stated, the mids are where it's at for this channel. It's ridiculously responsive. For a 1×12 combo, it's got a huge sound. The low end is just plain big, and puts my other combos to shame. Through a 2×12 or 4×12, the tone is just MASSIVE. It really is that in-your-face, hot-rodded Marsh*lly sound that so many of us crave. The Friedman Jerry Cantrell is equally impressive on the dirty channel but in a different way. It has more gain, and sounds meaner, more modern. But I prefer the Small Box dirty channel. It's simple, raw, uncompressed and just BIG. I've also come to the conclusion that a 2-channel amp is perfect for me. I'm using a Fulldrive 3 on the front end, which gives me essentially two additional tones per channel. And I actually LIKE having a shared EQ for both channels. While having separate EQs sounds more flexible in theory, in practice I found on those amps that I'd set the EQs so similarly, that there was really no point in having two sets of tone controls (not too mention I hate having too many knobs). And, if you set the EQs differently, I find that it's hard to get a good balance in volume. I like the idea of clean and dirty having the same base tone, just with a lot more balls and gain on the dirty side. It's a more seamless experience when switching tones, and in a live situation your levels can be more easily matched. The build quality of this amp is outstanding. Just turn a knob or flip a toggle switch, and you can feel the difference between this and cheaper amps. Of course, Friedmans aren't cheap. But if I factor in all the money I've lost buying and reselling lesser amps and pedals, I could've saved a ton of money if I had this amp years ago.Skinvoyager

Amp sounds great a lower volume's, tried with several cabs but landed on a v30 greenback mix in a 2×12. This amp doesn't need to be set with everything on 10, it can be bright or warm meaning tone controls do a lot. The loop works great and is very transparent. Plexi channel is really good for clean stuff(at least for me) and can be goosed with boost or OD. Dirty channel is classic all the way to hard rock. We have a couple of nice amps kicking around and this Smallbox is a keeper, plus got a killer deal from MF. All around I'm super happy with the purchase.Joe
