I hardly ever review stuff. Also, it is hard to write a review like this without sounding like a bit of an ass, but here goes: I've been playing for 20+ years. Lots and lots of time spent playing on and off stages in all manner of venues. These strings are hands down and without question absolutely, positively the best strings I have ever played. I have been playing .10-.52's for years and the Stringjoy set just kills. If it wasn't true that I will NEVER buy another brand of strings again, I would say that Stringjoy strings are too good to be good business. I change strings about three times LESS than I used to. And while I used to blow my b or e strings off my guitar routinely during shows, I (almost) never breaks strings now. These things have unparalleled life and longevity and sound snappy gig after gig after gig (well, back when we used to do that sort of thing). We've all played all the major brands. Frankly, I considered them interchangeable and just had dogmatic loyalty to certain brands for no particular reason that would change from time to time (availability?). If you don't have a lot of playing time under your belt bending strings and playing hard, you may not notice how good Stringjoy strings are. If you are a serious player, do yourself a favor and get a set (Hell, get 10 sets). You might not notice the difference immediately, but you'll notice the following month when you haven't broken a string and they sound just as good as they did when you strapped 'em on. Have not used these strings previously and as a 'bedroom' guitarist I have not put them through their paces yet! They fitted well although as I have a Bigsby Vibrato on a semi-accoustic Epiphone, they only just fitted to the top tuner, they could have done with being a little longer for my purpose… but they seem smooth.John

I really like these strings. They are warm, and give what I believe to be the best tone on my Stratocaster's and Telecaster. I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I went to a local music store and bought a pack of Fender's . as an experiment I wasted to see how long before one would break . SIX WEEKS ! .. THEY LASTED 6 WEEKS ! .. I used D'Addario strings for years and while the tone was good, I tried the Fender Original Bullets Vintage Nickel Bullet End Electric Guitar Strings in the same gauges as the originally specified Fender strings in both my Fender American Professional H-S-S Rosewood fretboard Strat and my Fender American Elite S-S-S Ebony fretboard Strat and they came to life. They are bright, have excellent sustain and bend like no other strings I've tried. Most of all, they last, so long as you wipe them down after each use. I use no other strings now.Ed C
I recently replaced the strings on my Fender FSR Antigua Telecaster with the 3150L Pure Nickel strings and I was not disappointed! They play fast and feel smooth and sound crisp and bright. The .009 makes a noticeable difference, allowing you to play longer without those tired string-notched fingers. One thing in particular I noticed with these strings was the ease of doing bends; these strings are strong and they've got a lot of memory too them. I doubt I'll buy any other strings for my Tele after having put these on. Buy them today!

I'm so glad that D'Addario created this product! I was using the Dean Markley's George Lynch pure nickel strings. But they discontinued making them. I use these on a telecaster with alnico 5 pickups. The tone is much better when using the pure nickle as opposed to regular strings. The pure nickle have a much richer tone with the alnico 5s, however on a modern sounding strat with a humbucker they were a little dead sounding. If you have a vintage style guitar, or bright sounding guitar you should try the pure nickle strings. Darker more modern sounding guitars stick to regular strings.Rock guitarist

I've been using Dean Markley Blue Steel strings for years but now I'm searching for alternatives because the Blue Steel strings are always out of stock. I ordered Pyramid strings because that's what Wolf Hoffman of Accept uses. However, I ordered the stainless steel strings because I'm allergic to nickel. These strings are great…very nice feel and the tone is very bright which I love. I've tried the strings on my Gibson Les Paul, Gibson Explorer and Jackson Soloist and the results have been great. I tried multiple gauges with good results. In addition, the strings have lasted a long time – took a long time to tarnish and the wound strings kept their tone. Better than expected. Solid tone. Easy to play. Just right. Not too bright, just clean and tight, as a well made set should sound. Lows still great, even at the slightly lighter gauge. Don't get me wrong, they can get plenty bright if you want that. Just that they didn't seem as extra bright as some kinds try to be because they can with all the "super nano ultra special coated infused …but still hand crafted somehow" type stuff. Was never happy with previous sets on my 5 string. With these, I was able to set up with slightly lower action. This alone is worth it on my instrument. Finally, it's the bass it should've always been. Waited way too long to find these. I hope they keep making them. Probably going to order a few extra sets and try to keep a few on hand. As others point out, I'm not sure there's another set with these gauges for 5 strings. To me these are just right in a lot of ways.Person
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. Been using the 8250-5M set for awhile. Wanted to try a lighter gauge. I get more guitar tones out of these. I was concerned I might overpower them since I'd used medium gauge for a couple of years. These are literally perfect on my Modern Player Jazz Bass V and 2 1993 Jazz Plus Vs. I bought the Modern Player new from Musiciansfriend. I think this light set is the set that it had on it. I use a pick, single and double thumb as well as two finger picking techniques. The E and B strings give a nice low end. The bullet ends on these strings really do seem to increase the tone and sustain quality compared to the ball end strings that I was using. Upon first glance it is easy to simply think that it is only about the bullet ends fitting better into the tremelo cavity than the ball ends. However, there is more to it than that. You see, these strings are designed to be a custom fit into the strat tremelo block which eliminates string slippage and tuning instabilities. Also, the strings have more mass and surface area contact with the bridge. In terms of physics this makes perfect sense and you can hear the difference if you have an ear for tone. It is the formula for the perfect strings for a strat. I do know this, I won't use any other strings in my strat because the way they feel and sound is absolutely perfect.texas

Mark Neill recommended these. I have been using Boomers for 30+ years and like them much. I put a set on a les paul and was pretty stunned that they sustained well and had a much more pleasing mid range and the highs were only down a little. Loved the balance. And no sqweekin with high gain!! So i put a set on a tele and started hearing some of the classic big fat tele tones. Those were all lighter sets. Since i liked them so much i decided to try them on a dobro. BOOM. Love the thick mids and no string noise when sliding. The half rounds are now my do to on all my instrumentsTheabis debris
I've been using these strings for years… no one seems to know about them. I showed the salesperson at the cash register – tore the package open and he was amazed what "half-round" meant. These are the most flexible (style of playing and tone) and durable strings on the market! I can play Jazz, Country, Blues and Rock with them and sound top-notch. They don't have the "zip" sound of round-wounds, and are more lively than flat-wounds. They don't ever seem to corrode! Get 'em!FRANK
I bought some of these just because I was getting irritated by string squeak. Didn't fancy full flat wound. These strings are really great to play. They feel fantastic under the fingers and still have a great tone. I also love the wound g string as it has tweaked the intonation, making it much more accurate on the lower frets, in fact, all strings are more in tune on the lower frets (thicker strings I think). I used to use 10-48s on my telecaster style guitar but these 12-52s give a much better sound. If you're heavy on the bends then they will take a bit of adjustment and hardening of your fingertips! For the price I'm hoping they will last me well but so far… love em!Stefan

These strings sound different, in a good way. They are warm sounding with no hint of piercing harmonics and they stay in tune for days. Normally I have to tune every day on the strat but not these. They feel super comfortable on the fingers. I've tried several brands and these will be my choice from now on. Next I'll have to try the acoustics. Usually when I discover a product that I like, they discontinue it. I hope that doesn't happen with the Curt Mangans.NCT
These strings sound about as good as any pure nickel set can, and at a great price for the quality you receive. Most importantly to me, they feel great. The wound strings are not too stiff even though they are larger than a regular 10 gauge set. I've always preferred a wound g string and these manage to have that in a comfortable sized set for me. Some pure nickel sets have trouble lasting but these have lasted me about as long as nyxl have. I highly recommendKaleb

It has a very fundamental tone, good for mahogany guitars. But on rosewood guitars, it may kill off the overtones, which may not be right for some people. Recommended on larger guitars rather than small ones. They do last quite a long time, which helps justify the high price to an extent.J A.
recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. Btw, ive got over 26 hours of playing on the 6 string set. and no noticeable fall off .Dave Gover
I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio

so, I have taken up Jazz Guitar(I am mainly a bass player but do play guitar). Found a great deal on a jazz box, did a little work on it, now the strings; the real "jazz guys" use flatwounds usually. Back in the day (when I first started playing guitar) I used flatwounds and I never really liked them went to round wounds and I was happy. So, as I started this project I bought several different types of strings, mostly nickel plated. They were OK but not close to the "flatwound" sound (of course not they are round wound) even tried half round (I really did no like these) so I read that the pure nickel were pretty mellow. Well, they were but not that dead sound of flatwounds. I have used DR strings on my bass for several years after trying many different brands both stainless and nickel plated and the Low Rider Nickel are my favorite, period (I haven't tried the Pure Blues for bass yet ). So, being a DR fan I tried and liked the Pure nickel electric strings. They do squeak a bit but I really like the sound and, of course, the feel. Give them a try. I tried these on my '79 Ibanez AR50. The guitar has the great Super 70 pickups, and is of course a solid body in the LP style. As those pickups can be a bit 'hot' I was hoping to tame them down a little and yet keep the tone as clear as possible. So far I'm very happy with the results. Through a clean amp with the tone dialed back just a little, I'm really happy with the results. Now if my fingers would cooperate a bit, I think I'll be set for a while. Note that the 3rd string is a 24ga wound, but it is a very fine wind on it, so I'm getting very nice tone and hardly any 'squeak' when doing slides. YMMV!Charlie

I've been using Dean Markley Blue Steel strings for years but now I'm searching for alternatives because the Blue Steel strings are always out of stock. I ordered Pyramid strings because that's what Wolf Hoffman of Accept uses. However, I ordered the stainless steel strings because I'm allergic to nickel. These strings are great…very nice feel and the tone is very bright which I love. I've tried the strings on my Gibson Les Paul, Gibson Explorer and Jackson Soloist and the results have been great. I tried multiple gauges with good results. In addition, the strings have lasted a long time – took a long time to tarnish and the wound strings kept their tone. I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve
The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!Josh
I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. Between the tuning stability, the tension, the reliability, the playability and the string life, you cannot go wrong with these for baritone tunings!Daniel

I've experimented with different brands over the years but i keep coming back to EB. It's like they "get" what guitarists want in a string. The build quality is great. Never gotten a rusted string in all these years. Cant say that about a lot of other brand's. They are durable with a love to be bent. As far as sound, I like to think my ears have evolved over 25+ years of playing to the point that I've begun to appreciate the difference between nickel plated steel strings and pure nickel. If you like the crispness of NPS strings but are searching for a warmer sound, try these first before swapping things like amps or tubes. For years I bought and used a wide variety of guitar string brands, always interested to try just about anything and everything. Finally, I grew weary of the endless variety and my own randomness in brand selection. I did a controlled comparison over two months between the ten or so brands I tended to purchase most frequently, in order to determine whether in fact I had any clear preferences. I put the 10s on a Partscaster which wouldn't stay in tune or intonate with the Tuners I had on it. So I put some Grover Tuners on and reused the strings which had already been through torture. Great strings. I use these on a US Fender Lonestar and they stay in tune forever and sound nice and fat. Sometimes I leave a set on for many months, and they still sound great, even after losing their initial brighness. I wish they had a set with .013 for the high E, but that is not too hard to find. These are great for building strength in our fingers, making it much easier to play guitars with "normal" strings. Also, you can really attack the guitar hard. Be sure to properly set up your guitar for these strings!Mike
