Don't buy this amp expecting to gig with it at anything more than very low volume levels. Matched with sensitive speakers and master volume set at full, you might be happy with the volume you can get with maybe an acoustic set. The BAM 200 would be fine for practicing and jamming with a friend in the basement, but add drums and an amped guitarist and I think you will struggle to be heard. It's output sounds closer to 30 or 40 watts RMS, rather than the mystery 200 watts TC Electronics rates this mini. Tone was OK, a little fat if you over do the bass control and the preamp sections seems to overload easily, even with low output basses. I really don't have a good use for it after buying it, but it is easy to transport!airtow
The perfect no frills small unit. Haven't really road tested due to virus shutdowns but home bound sound is fantastic. I originally bought for a backup type amp but am quickly becoming enamored by its tonal qualities. Over the past few years I have been trying to reduce my equipment footprint and lugging around effort. I have another TC Electronics amp (BH250) along with a 2×12 cab and a 2×10 cab. These have been fantastic in small and medium venues – larger venues all seem to have their own sound systems which tap into my setup. Now, with the addition of this unit, I can even run my Rickenbacker in stereo without breaking my back hauling around a lot of equipment. The sound coming out of the BAM is smooth and even. It can get very very thin or very very fat and everything in between controls are solid and even. The only thing I would say that might be missing is an 'auxiliary in' but that can be side stepped with a small mixer. All in all a great buy for a very big sounding little D amp that can almost fit in a jacket pocket.2991tom

Sound: I bought the Ampeg Microvr Head originaly with one Ampeg 2-10" cabinet as a part of matched set, as most people do – about three months a later I bought another cabinet – so now I'm often running two of the same cabinets and the head together. When you plug in the second cabinet the rig gets noticeably louder in this set up, and also appears to have a much more deeper bass tone(if you want it). Adding the second cabinet added $300 to my rig – but if you can afford it, the sound is far superior to just the single cabinet, and gives you a lot of flexiblity. For smaller indoor venues like playing bass behind people with pugged in acoustic guitars, I run the head with just one cabinet and it sounds fine – both tone and volume wise. When I playing along with a drummer most of the time I opt for using two cabinets rather than just one. At higher volumes – like playing with a drummer it just sound stronger and fuller in every respect than by using just the single 2 10" cabinet. I'm either running a recent custom C.F. Martin Acoustic/ Electric Bass guitar, or a Fender Precession Bass, through the rig – depending on who and what I'm playing on music wise. It works excellent with either instrument and I am very happy with the set up. Even with just one cabinet you won't be dissapointed. Features: Happy with everything that it came with feature wise. Didn't like the stock power cord that came with because it was very stiff and hard to wind up – Ampeg should switch vendors and get a power cord supllier that could offer them a more felxible cord of the same quality that you cound wind up easier. Ease of Use: Tone controls are easy to figure out and use. Rear connections on the amp are simple, straight forward and easy to use, and hook things up. I often use a Martin acoustic bass guitar with this rig – so I use a Fishman DI preamp in between my bass and the amp – this being done basically to help control feedback at higher volumes (especially when playing out door gigs) and to fine tune the tone on the acoustic bass a bit more. My Fender bass sounds fine with out the Fishman preamp and the controls on the amp head work well with it – giving you many mutiple tone combinations depending on how you set them. Also my Fender fretless bass sounds really good through the amp and the matched speaker that you will most likely buy with the head. Quality: Quality seems very high. After about two years of owning and active giging – it is holding up extremely well. Over the last year or so I have taken it out on local gigs about twice a week, So it's been out of my house more than a hundred times so far, and there haven't been any issues so far – all this in all kinds of weather and temperatures. I had black vinyl covers made for the head (from a custom amp cover innernet company)and for both speaker cabinets as soon as I bought everything – so even aften trucking the units all over the place for quite awhile now they still all look fresh and brand new. The power cord that came with it was very stiff and always hard to roll up – so I bought an after market cord on a website cord supplier that was more flexible and easier to wind up. I've used the after market power cord every since. The head has a fan in the back that runs whever the unit is powered up, that when you first get the amp drives you crazy – because it appears to sound so loud. Truth is though while you may hear it running in your house when practing – you never do at gigs. At any gig the room and enviroment background noise easily drown it out right away – you just never hear the fan running at all. When I first got it I though something was wrong with the fan – there wasn't. Its an Ampeg thing – that is the low fan noise in a quiet background setting. Keeps everything cool inside the head – so you can certainly live with it. I got used to it after awhile and don't even notice it anymore. No one has ever commented to me anywhere about any fan noise coming from my amp. So don't think something is wrong with the fan when you first get the head. Value: The original outlay (about $600 for the head and one matching cabinet) is a bit steep compared to several other small bass amps on the market out there – but you get what you pay for I guess. Due to the price saddly – alot of bass players might not be able to buy one and will go with something cheaper out there. Before buying this I looked around for about two months at other rigs on the innernet, at music stores, and at othet musicians' bass rigs when watching them perform. This unit was replacing a Hartke Kickback 12 – which I used for about three years for the same type of smaller gigs – which is for more low volume type of dealsthat I play at – where you don't have to worry about shaking the room and making the paint peel of the walls when you hit your low E string on something like Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac". Sound: I own the Microvr amp and 2 210svtav cabs. I bought the second cab after I got the Mircovr set up. The sound sound you get from this things for the money blows anything else out their out of the water. To get the rated 200watts performance you need a 2nd cab as the load with one cab is 8 ohms at 150 watts. Light weight portability and small footprint size are a plus especially if your space chanllenged. This thing rocks. Features: This is a no frills set up. Has what you need to have great sound with a headphone jack to play practice in a low noise enviroment. Ease of Use: It has a 3 band eq section that you can dial in easy to find a sound you like. Its no svtpro 7 but for the money you will not find a better amp in its class. Quality: This amp is made solid. Mimics the old school look of the 70s svt lineup. Value: With anything you purchase you wish you could get it for less thats just the way it is. But for the money you will not find a better sounding and well made rig in this class. Um im Wohnzimmer auf der Couch ein wenig zu klimpern ist dieser Amp geradezu genial . Vom Gewicht her sehr leicht und auch von der Größe ist es ideal den Amp direkt neben sich zu haben . Der Clean-Sound kann richtig laut sein ohne zu zerren . Mit dem Overdrive Regler kann man schon recht schöne Crunch-Sounds erreichen . Ist natürlich nicht vergleichbar mit einem großen Röhrenverstärker , aber das darf man bei einem Preis von unter 50 € auch nicht erwarten . Mit externen Effekt Geräten die man zwischen Gitarre und Amp hängt kann man noch viel mehr Sounds rausholen . Ist alles möglich . Als Übungs-Amp für zu Hause ideal .

After 40 years as a guitar player, I just started to learn the Bass guitar. I love it. I needed a small amp to practice with during times I needed a more quiet practice session and read about this in Bass Player. For a small 2w amp this is amazing. The sound quality is amazing, warm and rich, not brittle and harsh like some small amps in this price range. It does get picky about pickups and likes some pick up systems better then others. for passive and piezeo systems it dials in easy and quick with full rich bass sounds, on some of my pre amp basses though it got quirky depending on the way the bass was set up and the controls set on the bass, so you will need to take the time to dial it in like any other amp. Great little piece of kit though not without a minor flaw. Play4 string bass in regular tuning? It deals with this with no hassle at all and has a clarity and smoothness that you wouldn't expect from a 3w amplifier with a 3" speaker! The only thing I could find to say something negative about it is that it really struggles to deal with a detuned 5 string low G, that said, it's a 3w amp and a 3" speaker, it's asking a lot of many full size rigs to deal with those kind of notes flawlessly! Pros: Surprisingly good bass response for such a small speaker (including on the low B of a 5-string). At 50-60% volume, it can keep up with a drummer and several unplugged acoustic guitars. Personnellement, je préfère le brancher dans mon 2×12 mais la red box fait un travail très correct. C’est puissant et on peut accéder a pas mal de sonorités différentes. Il ne manque qu’une réverbération mais c’est facilement insérable dans la boucle d’effet.
Ich habe den Ampman aufgrund der vielen guten Bewertungen im Netz gekauft und bin sehr zufrieden. Ich nutze ihn auf einem Pedalboard mit einem vorgeschalteten Elektron Analog Drive und im Effektloop einem Line 6 M5 und uraltem Ibanez Stereo Chorus. Der Sound des Ampman alleine gefällt mir schon sehr gut und es gibt einen Haufen Einstellmöglichkeiten. In Verbindung mit dem Analog Drive lässt sich das gefühlt endlos erweitern. Wer nicht gerade so ein Riesending wie den Analog Drive auf sein Board packen möchte, kommt sicher auch mit einem einfachen Zerrer gut aus. Wie gesagt, die Möglichkeiten sind gefühlt unendlich. Die Bauqualität ist auch super. Die schlechte Ablesbarkeit der weißen Schrift kann ich bestätigen. Stört mich aber in der Praxis überhaupt nicht. Die Redbox AE über Kopfhörer finde ich Klasse. Sound gefällt mir auch da sehr gut.

Pairing this with a foot controller, unlocks a lot of features and/or makes them easier to use while playing. There are a lot of tips online, but the major tip is with setting the overall input gain into the unit. When set properly, this thing behaves as it should. For my purposes (generally practice, jamming by myself), it's a great unit. Other uses I would recommend this preamp for are cover bands, studio/session bassists, anything where a variety of tones is necessary. This unit differs from a lot of other preamps, in that you can model different amps with different cabs, or turn that feature completely off, making this a bit less static than other similar preamps. The user interface is a bit of a learning curve, but once you start getting it down, you realize it's pretty intuitive and well thought out.monti2889

This thing is fantastic. I was in the market for a practice amp, since I didn't want to lug around my bigger rig to and from practice. This beauty, pushing 100 watts, surpassed the sound quality I was hoping for significantly. The only major downside I can find if that it doesn't have it's own Direct Input, which makes it a little difficult to simulate my main tone. It doesn't respond as warmly to my Low-B as much as I'd like. But realistically for the price paid, I can't complain. The tone is as fantastic as anything you'd hear from ampeg. You get an overkill of volume for full band practice and plenty for smaller gigs. A nice plus is the head makes for a great backup in the event that your main rig fails. If you need a loud portable rig for practice or small venues that pushes a good tone, I'd highly recommend weighing in on this.VinnyVee
I was so happy to bring this home and expected it would be the perfect amp. Lightweight and cost effective. Tried it out at GC with my Boss DR 880 drum machine. Both drums & bass sounded very good, so I bought it. When I got it home I expected that my keyboards would be fair to good as well. Wrong, the Casio Cdp 100 was terrible. My Roland FP-5 was better but only about half way there compared to my Roland KC 350 keyboard amp. It was totally my fault to expect my keyboard to sound good on something made for bass. I guess I have learned my lesson. Guitar Center was gracious about taking it back and refunded my money less a small restocking fee because I ordered it rather than taking the floor demo amp. Save your boxes for full refunds.
Overall: When I got this amp I was surprised at how loud it is. I thought 100w wasn’t going to be enough until I read it is 100w RMS… thus meaning it’s actually a 200w peak amp. I run the amp flat, and get the tones I want from my Fender Jazz Active Deluxe with the 3 band eq built in. It’s excellent for getting 70s clean Ampeg bass tone I was looking for through without it costing me my back or too much money. If you’re looking for a versatile amp with modern tech and old school tones, this is it. I run the amp and a DI for church without the cab, but at home I barely have it under “2” for volume. The aux plug is great but a little muddy for songs that have a wide range. It’s very well built and it has some weight to it. Definitely good for gospel, funk, r&b and rock. I use a Korg Pandora Mini multi effects processing unit to achieve a large spectrum of sounds. That is another unit that I recommend guitar players to use to compliment the sound and functionality of this Pignose Hog 20 amplifier. The Hog handles pedals very well, as I also unit a Biyang Compressor Unit and an Electro Harmonix Linear Boost Unit (both seperately). I have not tried a Distortion or High Gain pedal unit to achieve METAL-esk sounds but I am very sure (almost to a certainty) that this amplifier can handle it. Once the unit is fully charged one can easily take it to a park, garden, school, play ground, lake, beach, or ANY place that does not have an electrically input. Be warned; the juice on this unit only lasts for 8 hours so plan accordingly. The amplifier is very sturdy. This product does exactly what I wanted it to. I have to play a wedding with my acoustic at an outdoor event this week where there is no electricity. With an acoustic guitar, you do have to watch where you place it because it will feedback if you're not positioned correctly, but that's no problem because I'm outside. The squeal knob is pretty much worthless to me, but maybe it's better with a solid body electric. I purchased a battery operated ZOOM MS-50G pedal, just to add some eq, compression, chorus, delay and reverb to the Pignose and I couldn't be happier with the results — especially when you consider that this is a battery operated amp.inthesticks53
Don't think this amps 20 watts will be loud. My Jca22h 20w will bury this amp on less than 1. Most 15w and some 10w amps will out do the pig by a long shot[even a 5 watt tube amp] The pig does'nt have a lot of clean headroom either but it's enough for what it's for. It has a decent crunch and distorts easily with humbuckers at higher volume. I don't personally care for the "squeal" knob.Too much "odd" harmonics. What its good for is that it's rechargeable, super portable, and the charge lasts a good bit with the dual beefy battery packs in the back. You can take this anywhere and play. No electric….no problem. And that's a good thing. The best feature is the built in battery packs that can be recharged. Lasts quite a while on a charge too. Well built. Feels and looks solid. You can buy a Fender champion 600 tube amp for the same money or a Fender frontman 25 for less but they're either much larger and you have to have juice to run them. I bought this little amp after reading the previous customer reviews so I decided to take a chance on it. I must admit that I am quite pleased with the amp. Great tone and balance and it will provide ample sound and clarity for a practice amp. Perfect for an apartment or a person to use in a smaller space. It was well worth the price.
Ordered this along with a 5 string gib bass. The items were supposedly shipped at the same time, but I received the bass guitar 8/10 with no clear tracking on where the bass amp is or when it will come in. If I would have known it wasn't going to come in at the same time I would've bought an amp from somewhere else. The guitar is amazing for the price even the though the packaging was beat up and ripped with tape all over like it had been a return. Very skeptic about this and I've sent an email which I haven't received a response.
UPDATE. I received a message from Glarry stating that the Amp shipped separately from the Bass I ordered, and with a different carrier service then the one who brought the Bass Guitar. I give a 4 out of 5 stars, it creates a great sound for being a 20w Amp, it's compact and light. The only thing that I don't like is the fact that the volume nob is vary sensitive. Other than that, it's great.

Decent sound running my acoustic bass through it. Buzzes a little with the low frequencies but somewhat imperceptible playing live. Battery life has been good for several hours. The HOG has a cool look that sets it apart from most. My HOG was pre-owned and not sure how old it is but the The amp was bigger and heavier than expected but still very portable. Rechargeable batteries are a great idea. Someday when they finally wear out for good, the replacement cost is very low. Mine was sold with the caution that the pots are scratchy, which they are. But that is something I intend to work on myself and learn a few things in the process. The surprising thing (and my favorite thing) is the full, warm tone. Much better than expected, and quite suitable for home recording. This HOG will be with me for a long time.glennbuck2005
In my previous 4-star review, I didn't have a chance to play out with other musicians. Now I have, and I give this amp 5 stars. Other players have commented how clear and easy to hear this amp is. Each bass string is reproduced with equal volume. I use it with a Guild acoustic bass guitar, and that combination gives a pretty good simulation of an upright bass. Not identical, but certainly adequate for outdoor jams. Indoors, the amp provides more than enough volume and fullness. I use one of these for my nylon string Godin Multiac. I blend the nylon with a GR33 synth and run both signals into this amp on the clean channel. The issue I've always had with amplified nylon string guitars is the 'plucky' or 'plasticy' sound of them through guitar amps. This bass amp solved the problem for me. With the amp's treble and bass rolled off completely I can get a very round clear tone by using the guitar's eq to provide the brightness. Very light and powerful, and an unexpected solution to a long-standing problem I've experienced. The electric violinist in the band tried his setup through my amp with almost identical settings and he bought one also! Works very well for bass also, in a small setting.Jan-Mikael
TLDR: BUY IT! I ordered this amp when I bought my very first bass. For years I was stuck with a school Ampeg Little Stud bass from 1973. The bass itself was 40 pounds, and for all of its vintage appeal, I was not impressed by its condition or playability. The amp was even worse. It was a Backline 112 that weighed 50 pounds, and when I performed with it in a school gymnasium with a capacity of a mere 400 people, nobody heard me playing. When I bought my bass I knew that I needed a new amp. Enter the Rumble 100. If this is your first amp, you might think this is a little pricey, but trust me, it is beyond worth it. I'm only 5'1", and while I could carry the heavy Ampeg bass and amp, it was starting to hurt my back. But this amp is incredibly light. I almost expected it to have zero bottom end. But when I played it, I was shocked. The sound was very well-supported, even if it's played with the bass, low, and mid down and treble all the way up (which I wouldn't recommend… I mean, it's a bass amp…) I've loved this amp ever since. But I'm not a "pro" yet, so let me tell you what some professional musicians thought when they saw my amp. I performed with a popular local brass band that has been together since 1980. Altogether they have 50+ years of touring and gigging experience. They're used to lugging some pretty heavy equipment. When I walked in to the auditorium, I had my bass case slung over my shoulder, my amp in my hands, and all my music nestled under my arm. Of course the stage crew at the door all thought that the tiny chick (me) was about to drop everything, so they rushed over to help me by picking up my amp. They went, "What? We're wondering where the inside went, Is this it?" They thought it would sound awful. But that night, in front of 2,000 people (and there was a bass solo), everybody said they could hear me perfectly. Like the rest of the bass players out there I've used all of the major brands. From old-school Acoustic Control heads and cabs from the '70's, to Ampegs etc etc etc…Well I've reached the point where that level of stage volume isn't needed for what I'm doing now; I shopped around, and despite some of the amazing combos available, I landed on this one. Actually the guitar player in our band mentioned that he had bought the 50watt version of this. I played through it and was impressed. For me it's the ideal unit for what I'm doing now – I still play some heavy rock (Mountain, Cream, Cactus, Trower), but when volume is required we of course use the FOH and good monitors for stage support. Having the onboard direct out is the best as it allows me to go direct into whatever board is being used, whether live or recording. Don't be fooled by the small size; the size is a real asset in terms of portability. The head is where it all starts, and the tonal range is wide so you can dial in your sound. In a live situation there's plenty of lows, highs and depth of tone. Playing in various size venues is no problem – this will carry without going through FOH in churches, smaller bars & clubs (50-100 capacity). Larger venues or live situations where stage volume is needed for impact or performance, then my personal recommendation is to use this as a personal monitoring device and go through the PA & stage monitor as a direct through the board. One last thing; the amp sounds as good on 3 as it does on 7. Any more than than 7 and it starts pushing the speaker, and not in a good way. But I've had this for several months now, use it gigging and recording regularly and overall am simply satisfied with the purchase. Like everything, this amp has limitations. You're not going to get the punch or volume of a high powered rig, and you really shouldn't be using a combo for something like that. But whether you're a beginner, novice, or weekend warrior or pro this amp, as well as the rest of this product line, is a tremendous option.jb

Just got this Vox Amplug2 in the mail. Brought it in, unboxed it, tore open the package, oh nice-comes with batteries! Stuck them in. Got my 5string, my phone, an aux cord, and headphones. Plugged everything up, turn on the little amp, turn up the volume, punch up a song on YouTube, adjust volumes to suit. I've been playing with Willie Dixon and Black Sabbath all night now 🙂 I've turned all the little knobs. Tone is basic, down is thick, up is brighter. Tried the drums, very cool, but i haven't gone through the different settings, just the first couple drum sounds. I'm happy with it. But for the past three hours I've just had everything on the amp all the way up, and adjust tone and volume on the guitar, then adjust the aux volume on the phone. Works just fine. Perfect for practice and unbeatable for the price. Be a bit careful with it, the plastic won't take a lot of abuse, but it's plenty durable to sit on the chair and practice.
I've been looking for a way to practice without having the hassle of amplifiers. I've always practiced my electric bass unamplified. I considered an acoustic bass but ultimately decided on this product. It works great for practice. Some other reviews complained about noise. There is some noise, but not enough to keep me from practicing. I wouldn't record with it, but hey, it runs on 2 AAA batteries, what do you expect? For the money I'd expect it to be made of better plastic. The case has a somewhat lightweight and textured feel. It would also be nice if it was Bluetooth capable for aux/headphone connections.Pete
I have been very excited with this wee amplifier. It plugs directly into the bass' output jack. There are dial-controlled volume and tone controls which work perfectly and provide well-designed volume and tone sweeps The sound has 3 press-button activated gain levels, and a small colored light which changes color to show which is switched on. Two options, with orange or red colors in the single lamp, are quite low in volume (too low I think) but the third, when the green light is on is excellent, potent with a bit of growl – think Jack Casady, I say! There is an output jack for headphones – plenty of volume available – and an input jack to run, for example, an iPad into the Vox. So, you can privately play along with any music you have stored on an iPad! Powered by 2 AAA batteries, which come with it. Absolutely amazing device. A beginner can buy a bass, use this amp without even needing to purchase a guitar cable, and be ready to begin. The "headphone" output can be plugged into an amplifier's auxiliary socket (my small Ampeg amps are wired to "center" a stereo input signal) or a home sound system using a mini-plug- to- 1/4" stereo converter jack and perhaps a mini-plug-ended extension cable, sold everywhere in various lengths. 800W Thunder Box. So far, so good, so what, right? Many preset settings to try and find the right sound, or you can jump online and find user premade settings and tweak to your earhole's content. Connect via Bluetooth and change settings with your phone (via app) or the footswitch. It pumps much air, so probably not the best home practice amp if you value glass in and around your home, but perfect for every other application. Recommended outside toy. Overall: unless you are on tour with Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, or Metalica I can't imagine you needing much more than this combo offers. I have many basses, and i am able to capture the individual characteristics of each easily. I owned, and still own a Rumble 500 V3 and love that also. The technical advancements, and improvements are the reason I purchased it. I saw a future in updateable firmware, downloadable presets, WiFi capabilities, and USB capabilities. I am about a little over my third month with the Stage 800, and I haven't even started with the foot pedal, set list programming and looping. All we really wanna know is what does it sound like? It sounds like just about everything I've ever heard and that is good. Forget the name, or intended preset, the question is does it sound good? It sounds fantastic. In addition it is light and plenty loud, but can played silently while you practice through your earphones, as you're learning music streaming through your Bluetooth connection. The foot switch is included with the Stage 800, and you have the Fender Tone App you can download on your phone and adjust the tone from across the room, and download new presets created by other users. It is the future coming together with Fender and i love it!Franklin
This thing is wonderful. For such a tiny speaker with low wattage, RUMBLE, is no joke and not just advertising. I'm surprised but at low volumes it sounds great, and mid as well. I've yet to pump it to the max but I live in an apartment so I'm happy w/ low to mid. The presets are great, and you can download an additional 50 or so presets with the computer application. The tones are sweet and warm; Fender got it RIGHT!! Beats the VOX emulator by far. VOX sounds tinny and hollow; Fender warm and thick; love it and would recommend. THANK YOU FENDER!! The Elf is like the Yoda of bass amps. Though it may be small, it is packed with the power of the force. I use this amp with a pair of the Trace Elliot 1×10 cabinets and it will easily cover 95% + of my gigging needs. The tone is classic TE and it is certainly loud enough (running at 200W) to keep up with an "average" rock band with a couple guitars and acoustic drums. Now, it's NOT going to make your trousers flap in the wind of excessive SPLs or send patrons running to the loo from super intense low frequency coming off the stage's backline but that's where the Elf's built-in Direct Out comes into play and it works and sounds great. Your audio tech will be duly impressed with your tone blasting out of the house (FOH) speakers. Many buy the Elf as a backup amp and because of its size and light weight that makes good sense but truthfully it can hold its own as a main amp. Well, certainly for my needs it can. I have owned Ampeg, Eden, SWR, Fender and a few other bass rigs. All were refrigerator-sized and weight. I plugged this little guy in along with the 208 cab and was totally blown away by the quality of the tone, the volume level and the size. The salesguy at the store even told me I was too loud. Put this baby smack in a corner of the stage and your presence is well felt and heard across the room. it won't knock your pants legs loose but it will be clean and powerful enough bass to be present amongst the other instruments. If you need anymore umph then the DI is a fantastic feature. The Elf puts out a really clean signal to the board. One con about the DI, there is no pre/post switch. I can imagine the components inside are packed like sardines so no more room for anything like that unless T E releases an Elf Mach II in the future. No Mute switch either. This unit is so lightweight and compact it's no issue to bring it along anywhere. Got rid of all of the refrigerator units to get the Elf with 2X8 cab. Well worth the investment. Just so small! Have this sat on top of a TC electronics BC 208 2×8 cabinet and whilst it's a bit too much for a home practice set up it's incredibly practical for home practice. Sounds great through the cabinet and can be stashed in a small space and moved around easily. Casting my memory back the first half decent combo I bought (back in the 1990s) was a Trace Elliot 1×15 with delivering about 130W. It weighed a ton. The Elf and 2×8 sounds every bit as good as the old combo (bit tighter, less rich low end from the cabinet) but moving it around is a breeze. If you're planning to use it only at home practice volumes be aware that although the fan noise is quiet, it is audible when playing at neighbour-friendly levels. Still five stars as there's no way to have 200W of power in such a compact unit without a fan and the fan is a very quiet fan.Ledgerwood C.

Use at home mostly. Also use in live settings. There are definitely boutique sounds in this amp, as long as you keep the gain fairly low. Great clean sounds, from sparkly clean, to slightly hairy, are this amps strong points. This amp has a lot of base, so I keep the base turned down. It really sounds great with the mids turned way up. The high gain setting on this amp sounds good too, but there is also quite a lot of hissing in this mode when not playing. I actually prefer using a Dirty Shirley pedal with the amp in a clean setting. The reason I gave this amp four stars is because the mute switch makes a slight pulsating sound when engaged, (it is not a real standby switch, so whether or not you actually use it, is pretty much up to you). Also, I have heard that the LXR direct out sounds a little fake. I have never tried it. I've also read complaints about the effects loop being noisy on some of the early models. Again, I've never used it. Overall, if your goal is to achieve nice clean to very mild overdrive type vintage sounds, this is a stellar amp for the money. If I were to upgrade to the hand wired boutique amp of my dreams, I would be looking at spending about $2000, and it would sound maybe a little bit better, but not $1500 better, in my opinion.Average middle aged guitar playe
The Bassbreaker15 is an exceptional amplifier. I first acquired the BB15 Combo at my local guitar center. I use a Mesa MK5:25 head, carrying a blues jr as a backup and a 1×12 cab with my favorite hemp cone speaker. When the BJr developed a problem that was not the tubes, rather than trying to have it diagnosed I decided to replace it because it was old anyway. My speaker would not fit in the combo amp so I took it back and swapped it out for the BB15 head, which is absolutely no problem with the great staff at my local GC. The Bassbreaker 15 is a very nice low wattage head. I use an extensive pedalboard and just set my amps on the "edge of breakup". The BB15 does this beautifully with the medium gain structure and the drive at around 9:30 to 10. Rolling the guitar volume down cleans up completely. Very full bodied tone that anybody would love. While I don't use it in the high gain structure mode, if I needed to, I would be VERY PLEASED with the driven tones. The high gain structure sounds better than any pedal out there (and I mean any, so long as you're not going metal, and it does that pretty well). If it were possible to switch from a med to hi gain structure tone on the fly, this would probably be one of the best amp available anywhere. I have a Marshall DSL40 and a Fender HR Deluxe as well. Without question I prefer the tones available from the BB15 better. Any talk of 15 watts not being able to keep up with a full band or a drummer is absolute nonsense. If that's the case, you're playing too loud or you need a different drummer. I love my Mesa MK5:25, and honestly have not decided whether the BB15 will become my primary amp, but it probably won't. The reason (and this is why 4 stars, not five) is that the direct out just doesn't sound good, and at some gigs I do use DO. It is easily on par with the MK5:25, or any other amp when miking up though. The tone controls are powerful and clean and the reverb is good enough for anybody. Buy this if DO isn't an issue.J
Overall, I like this head. The sound is great and it is pretty easy to use. It is portable, and it looks nice. It has good features. I mostly pleased with it, but do have the following honest / negative comments to make: -Right out of the box, it has the effects loop hum. After researching online, I learned this is a common problem. I called Fender and they told me to take it to an authorized repair center and it would be repaired for free. I plan to do that soon, and I'm glad it will be repaired, but it would be even better if the problem was not there to start with. -I have tried the direct out a couple times, and it seems overly quiet. I tried it at my church and at a show, and it was very quiet both places. I hope to have this looked at when I take the head in for the effects loop repair, but maybe that's just how it is. I may end up having to mic the cab instead. -When I bought this head, I was under the impression I could use the direct out without having a load (a speaker) hooked up. A bandmate mentioned that I probably should have a speaker plugged in, even if it's muted. I double checked with Fender (twice), and they said that a speaker does have to be plugged in at all times, even it the head it muted and the direct out is being used. -There is no footswitch.JBrau
