I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this value brand guitar. The action was actually low and playable after tuning it out of the box. I was wanting to try my hand at a 12 string and found some used ones for more money that were basically unplayable. Then I found this new Oscar Schmidt on e-bay, and figured for the money, it's better than paying double for an unplayable wooden box. I have been playing Bajo Sexto/Quinto for over 10 years now. I have played many of different brands of bajo, everything from these mass produced Paracho Elites to the high end handmade Hernandez bajos (I own a Hernandez myself). I must say these are great for BEGINNERS only. By no means are these professional grade bajos, but there are many worse brands selling for much more online and in other retail stores. On the plus side these have solid tops and they really are made in the legendary town of Paracho, Michoacan (not handmade but better than nothing). In case your wondering, Guitar Center does offer Bajo Quintos as well in acoustic and acoustic/electric models. Which is great because pickups and installation on these can get expensive. The thing is, as I've come to learn, that these models are not online but available in select stores along South Texas. If you do pick one up I highly recommend 2 things. First, buy the warranty on these! The string tension on these bajos are super hard and can snap off the bridge or break your bajo at the neck joint. Trust me the warranty will save you a lot of hassle and heartache. Second, lower the string height because these are all made to be super high, take it into your local tech and have them adjust your truss rod and shave the saddle so it will be easier to play.

Overall: Wow. Just wow. When I heard about this guitar as it first released, I was excited because I'm pretty loyal to Schecter, already having a few of their Hellraiser 7 strings in my collection. Availability on it was limited to completely zero, though, but eventually, one popped up here and I jumped on it. Glad I did. It is absolutely amazing. Plays like a dream right out of the box, looks and sounds incredible. Schecter sets the bar SUPER high, as always. Cost wise, this thing is on part with instruments at least triple it's price tag. As a metal/jazz/neo-classical guy looking to move into more acoustic spaces, this is perfect. An absolute dream.
I recently took delivery of an open box "condition level 2" Schecter Orleans Stage Acoustic/electric guitar from MF. I can't find a ding, a nick or a scratch anywhere on it. The only negative I can find are a few rust spots on the strings. Even the action if set very good. I cannot imagine what the person who returned this guitar was looking for that they had to return this one? In my time I've owned and played a Martin D18, Taylor Grand Pacific, Larrivee L-03 and over a half dozen other of various brands and prices. This mid price half-a-grand guitar hangs with and in some cases surpasses the big dogs from the big names! The vampyre red is a very beautiful, deep red. And it great flame on the maple back. Size is GA and very comfortable. Upper fret access is good too. The guitar sounds great with good projection acoustically, and is even better plugged into a Yamaha TRC desk-top amp. I was concerned with the maple back & sides making it too bright, but the tones are really just perfect. Nice lows, mids & trebles across the spectrum. And the best part is the neck. I don't have big, meaty hands and with this one some of the chords I've struggled with and also some barre chords come easy! EASY! I have a Schecter electric and it's a keeper…I just didn't even know Schecter built acoustics but I do now and can't wait to try the Orleans Studio w/ the cedar top or maybe the 7 & 12 string Stage models. Bottom line, I can't see how anyone would not be fully impressed with this fine instrument.AK-J
For the price this guitar sounds amazing. The neck and action come perfect right out of the box. Its super comfortable to play. It looks great too. At the price this guitar is amazing! I recommend some DR Veritas strings. The one down side although super minor is the strap button on the button is also the input jack, my first acoustic electric idk if this is standard. But it makes putting a strap lock on super hard and annoying. Schecter is known for their amazing electric guitars but i can assure this acoustic is well worth the money and an amazing instrument.Matt C.

I ordered this instrument as I was curious as to how I'd get along with 12 strings, and to see if it would be worth future investment. I've ordered and played an Epiphone EJ-200 before and was surprised by the brilliant quality I was getting for such a low cost, so on this occasion I followed Epiphone again for my foray into 12 string playing. The instrument is well crafted for the price point with only a few small QC issues slipping through, but nothing I can't live with. I was hoping for a larger sound as the small dreadnought body doesn't quite articulate as well as a bigger instrument would. It's got that jangle sound you want, although it feels like it's a little suppressed with the mahogany build and body shape & size. That being said, the instrument handles very well, and for me it was an easy adaption to play with the much thicker and wider neck. It holds tuning well and was set up pretty nicely – I didn't have to make any adjustments out of the box. For a first 12 string I'd recommend this above most others at the price point.
This is my Long Term Review. I have had this guitar for a bit over two years now and can give a more complete picture of it. First, the good. This is a very well made guitar. Under the pros, you will notice I mentioned Good Construction. This is particularly important in a 12 string. The biggest issue with all 12's is that they tend to come apart very quickly. You will have bowing, warping, separation of glueing, etc. All this is because of the tremendous extra pressure 12's suffer. After 2+ years, this guitar is still solid as a rock, and I leave it strung all the time. So I would say construction and bracing are very good on this instrument. Along with this is the fact that it Stays In Tune. This is another major issue with all 12's. Again, that extra force tends to make them go out of tune quickly. This one holds tune very well, and that is important as tuning a 12 takes some time. As for sound, I would say Not too Bad overall, and Really Good for an budget level guitar. It is a little thin for my taste, but there are ways around that. First, throw on a set of decent strings. I prefer Martin Marquise on mine, but personal choice. Second, I like to play through an acoustic amp, and I put a Seymour Ducan Woody on mine. When adjusted correctly, I can get a really decent, full bass sound, lots of body and still keep a nice jangle expected from a 12. Will it sound like a Martin or Gibson, no, but it gives a really nice sound for such a low price. As for the negatives, very few. First, keep in mind when Epiphone says "Select Spruce Top," they really mean laminated, not solid. But I suppose there varying qualities of laminated woods as well, and this one is great – really good resonance and sustain. It could maybe do with a better set of tuners, but as said before, it holds tune exceptionally well. Overall, for the price, Epiphone makes a really nice and playable guitar. Now am just praying they come out with a Masterbilt version of it.kdw
As usual with AMS, my order process was very easy,. The order arrived exactly when it was supposed to. However that’s when it all went South….! Exited to see and play my new 12 string, I unboxed it’s and sat down to play it. There was a single string in tune, not a one. A first I might add from AMS. I spent the rest of the day attempting to tune the guitar, although I never did. The tuners were difficult to turn, as if there was a bind of some type. I would get the note close only to have it go flat or sharp. I never was able to get it right. I called a friend of mine who’s been playing over 50 years and he was unable to get it in tune as well. Unfortunately I did return it to AMS, without issue. I must add, I have 2 other Epiphone guitar, electric and acoustic and they both came out of the box nearly perfect. I have never had a negative issue with AMS, and even the call to Customer Service was very positive and the agent could not have been nicer and even apologetic. I’m guessing this was just a lemon, but for now I’m going to do a little more research before I decide which 12 string I order, at this particular price point.

If you want a really nice D'ANGELICO acoustic then get something from the Excel line. But this is bottom of the premier line. This does the job for a early guitar, the neck is easy to play with low action to match. Put some warm strings on it. I recommend an 85/15 string and let it warm up and break in. It's a basic acoustic electric. It does what it says it will do. Nothing more or nothing less. I got it on an overstock sale but I'd buy it again at full price but maybe not the buttercream. The black or natural wood finish look the best. The buttercream is like they wanted the color of spruce with no grain. It's different for sure. If you're wanting something really nice save your money. If you want a decent backup not starter guitar this should fit the bill. My four star rating is with the full asking price in mind. i wrote a review early on with my first impressions. 3 months on it it still sounds great – it's been my sofa guitar and I've played it a great deal. The tone has mellowed a bit with use. Neck is still exactly where I set it and the whole guitar feels nicely solid. The big surprise is that this thing sounds FANTASTIC through a PA. It's balanced, it's dynamic, it has none of the harsh quackiness you usually get with low end piezo systems. You can hit it HARD without overdriving the pre. It can get nice and loud without feeding back and the onboard tuner is super handy. The first time I played it in public I was basically mobbed by other guitarists wanting to know where I got it. Ordered this on a SDOTD and will say right up front that it's a really NICE guitar, especially for the $$$. I was needing a smaller guitar w/ electronics for small venues, not needing to invest a bunch of money and after reading decent reviews I said "why not?". After opening the box things got off to a rocky start – – 1st string was broken, and also noticed the neck was really bowed from a loose truss rod, but since I do my own setups on new guitars these was fairly easy to remedy. So was the excessively dry fingerboard and bridge, which I rubbed with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil. But, two of the faux mother-of-pearl position markers were sticking up on one end (loose) and that got me to thinking maybe this was a bad idea. I almost boxed it up and sent it back, but since it was so nice otherwise I decided to super glue them back and overlook it. Otherwise, a beauty of a guitar, and after it was all set up this thing really sang. Unplugged, it's fairly unimpressive, but with a decent tone and plenty of harmonics. The fingerboard turned out to play wonderfully, low nice action with smooth frets and I love the thin profile and fairly narrow width of the neck, the shining point of this guitar. Tuners were OK, and the BONE saddle and nut were fine after I lowered the action a bit. The sound of this guitar is amazing plugged in, and the D'Angelico branded electronics are outstanding. Plugged in it sounds equal to anything I've ever heard, and I heard and played a few in my 60 years of performing. Mine does not have a phase switch as is listed, so take note of that one point. The really great thing that I love about the electronics – – the input jack & battery are on the rear bottom side instead of through the normal end pin jack, a major convenience that is not listed, so this makes up for any other minor cons of the guitar. i wrote a review early on with my first impressions. 3 months on it it still sounds great – it's been my sofa guitar and I've played it a great deal. The tone has mellowed a bit with use. Neck is still exactly where I set it and the whole guitar feels nicely solid. The big surprise is that this thing sounds FANTASTIC through a PA. It's balanced, it's dynamic, it has none of the harsh quackiness you usually get with low end piezo systems. You can hit it HARD without overdriving the pre. It can get nice and loud without feeding back and the onboard tuner is super handy. The first time I played it in public I was basically mobbed by other guitarists wanting to know where I got it. Ordered this on a SDOTD and will say right up front that it's a really NICE guitar, especially for the $$$. I was needing a smaller guitar w/ electronics for small venues, not needing to invest a bunch of money and after reading decent reviews I said "why not?". After opening the box things got off to a rocky start – – 1st string was broken, and also noticed the neck was really bowed from a loose truss rod, but since I do my own setups on new guitars these was fairly easy to remedy. So was the excessively dry fingerboard and bridge, which I rubbed with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil. But, two of the faux mother-of-pearl position markers were sticking up on one end (loose) and that got me to thinking maybe this was a bad idea. I almost boxed it up and sent it back, but since it was so nice otherwise I decided to super glue them back and overlook it. Otherwise, a beauty of a guitar, and after it was all set up this thing really sang. Unplugged, it's fairly unimpressive, but with a decent tone and plenty of harmonics. The fingerboard turned out to play wonderfully, low nice action with smooth frets and I love the thin profile and fairly narrow width of the neck, the shining point of this guitar. Tuners were OK, and the BONE saddle and nut were fine after I lowered the action a bit. The sound of this guitar is amazing plugged in, and the D'Angelico branded electronics are outstanding. Plugged in it sounds equal to anything I've ever heard, and I heard and played a few in my 60 years of performing. Mine does not have a phase switch as is listed, so take note of that one point. The really great thing that I love about the electronics – – the input jack & battery are on the rear bottom side instead of through the normal end pin jack, a major convenience that is not listed, so this makes up for any other minor cons of the guitar. There was a delay to my order, at the fault of the supplier, however John was very helpful resolving any queries I had. I played the guitar both before and after setup as I live locally so had the luxury of visiting during the order process. Guitar was well set up on arrival, however it had a lacquer crack on the back of the neck that possibly occurred in transit. Jack socket was loose. Volume pot not tightened and spinning enough to have broken solder on wire. Offered discount or exchange. Accepted refund and fixed pot and socket myself, applying serrated washers that should have been present during assembly. These issues should really have been noticed during inspection and/or set up. Fret ends not very well dressed. I did this myself, but you need to be experienced to do so. I now have a £379 guitar (bought for £290 after the refund) that sounds and plays like a considerably more expensive one and has a very good sunburst finish, but was a bit disappointed by the issues that should have been caught at some point. Also disappointed that I had to chase the refund after 10 days.William D.

Had done a lot of research on this guitar prior to buying so was pretty sure I'd like it – Canadian made, from Godin, made with their own wood from their own orchard, and although laminate is pressure tested. Guitar came with a label confirming the checks, but that I would really know. Sounds fantastic, lovely tone, a comfortable range, and a very manageable neck for my tiny calloused hands. I just recorded a version of "Can't Find My Way Home" by Blind Faith. Clapton plays a small body guitar on the song. The guitar sounds great. I bought it after seeing and playing it at the NAMM show. Mine has no electronics. It came perfectly setup and the only thing I do is change strings. The tone is surprising for a parlor. The intonation is spot on up and down the neck. It has a full sound with good bass. I play it in group settings and the tone cuts through the larger guitars and is noticeable in the room. Others have commented how well it projects. The neck feels terrific (1.72mm). It's not too flat and is fuller than many of the modern acoustic necks. Clearly I'm a fan, but this thing is great and great for my purposes.Abster

I love the low buzzless action. the string tension is not over high and it frets well all up and down the neck. The Cedar top gives it a warm rich sound and the strings it coems with play well. I have been looking at 12 strings for a few months and while I like one that runs about $2,000.00 it is way out of my price range. This S12 is actually easier to play and because I can afford it a much better guitar for me. I went on a camp out with about 40 other acoustic guitar players opver Memorial day weekend and a asked a number of them to play it and they all agreed on how great it sounds and how well it plays. I can play it for an hour and my fingers not get sore on the tips from pressing the strings down. I love the sound quality and see no need to save up for the 2 grand 12 string I like so much. I'd give it more stars if I could. I have 5 guitars and I like this one best then my Seagull S6 original after that. I named it Melissa after the Greg Alman song by the same name. That was the first song I played on it and it sounds so rich and warm when I play it on this S12. Best quality sound and playability for the money. You will not be dissipointed I think this is a well built guitar that will last me for decades. For 500.00 what more could you ask for. I enjoy it as much as a 2,000.00 12 string I have been looking at.
I had it for close to three years now, never once regretting buying it as I have with other 12-strings. It is very easy to do the barre chords, especially for an acoustic 12-string. Rather easy to go up and down the fretboard. It was set up fairly nice, I did have the bridge milled down a small amount last year. Another surprise to me was the bass end of it is not as passive as others seem to be. A person can clearly hear the bass notes when picked. The treble end does not seem to be as high pitched as some others I have had either. So the whole tonal ability is rather uniform, not favoring either the highs or lows. It certainly is not the quietest one I have had either, it can project the sound too. I have not played in a band for decades now, but have played at partys, and the local VFW a few times lately. The guitar seems to be my conversation piece. I never imagined WIld Cherry as a guitar wood, the Seagull co. knows what they are doing.Jack Flash
Bought it in London about 9 months ago and have bonded to it like no other guitar I have owned in the past 40 years. Incredibly easy to play for a 12 string. Fingers glide along the frets though it took my wrist a little time to adjust to the width of the neck. Rich, clean tone favors picking, but also fun to strum out a tune. I perform with it, and chill out with it quiet evenings at home. Equally good for both. Great value.Coop

I’ve owned a EF381SC-LH since the early 90s. My being left handed had a lot to do with my decision to purchase it, as up to that point it was the only 12 string I’d ever seen in person, never mind Getting to play one. I was able to tune it by ear and it plays as easily as an electric guitar, so buying it was a no brainer. But over the years I’ve come to appreciated it more for it’s acoustic and amplified tone. It sounds great plugged into my guitar amp, it doesn’t need to go through a PA. It takes the dry New England fall/winter less than 20% humidity while never protruding a fret or needing a truss rod adjustment. I do use two Dampits less than diligently. This 12 string Is one of the best values in the guitar universe, if you have ever wanted one this is the one to get.Stan
I use this guitar as a requinto. (Mexican Guitar) It's just beautiful. I'm at a loss of words with this one the beautiful Gloss Black Finish and the mahogany Takamine logo and Fret markers are just flawless. I would purchase this guitar time after time if i had the money. Oh, and not to mention the electronic pickup that comes factory with it. This guitar was sold as "blemished." I haven't found any blemishes on the guitar. When it arrived it still had the plastic scratch guard on the pickguard, and the strings were still stretching the way brand new strings do. I tried the lower range Takamine 12 string, the GD 30CE, and wasn't happy with the feel of the the neck, string height, or the over all sound of the guitar. So I ordered this one. I know this range of Takamine guitars well because I own an EF 341SC. So far, this guitar has delighted me at every turn. I've not yet played the guitar through a PA system, but plugged into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface and recording it sounds great: well balanced and rich. The same if not better recording off of a live mic. The neck feels good, the string height is perfect.Ron

I just received my EF381DX today, and all I can say is "WOW!" The detail and finish work is superb. The factory setup is very good as well. I will probably have it taken in for minor bridge adjustment, but nothing too serious. For comparison, I owned an EF381SC about 15 years ago and the factory setup and finish work was less than stellar and needed a little bit of adjustment for the action. Don't get me wrong, it sounded amazing, but for the price I paid at the time, it could've been a little better. This guitar sounds exactly like I remember how the SC sounded all those years ago, and is far superior in finish work. The binding, fretboard inlays, headstock inlay and Abalone purfling and rosette are perfectly done. The bone nut and bridge saddle are shaped cleanly and with precision (way better than my old SC), although I prefer either a B string compensated saddle or fully compensated saddle. The pearloid tuning machines and perfectly buffed gloss finish round out the amazing look of this guitar. Great work, Takamine!!!Geasley
Very pleased with this fine instrument… After a major setup it plays as good as any 12 string that I have ever played. The only thing that I would like to have different is a thinner and narrower neck… but every 12 string guitar maker is stuck at 1 7/8" at the nut… so I have to live with it… Not that it is a burden… just my personal preference… The sound is no less than awesome… and when amplified and when stereoized through my Line 6 X3 Live pedal the sound becomes heavenly… and fills the venue with the fullness and harmonics that a 12 string should deliver… I am a solo artist… a musicianary… and I need to be able to fill the venue with sound as I play and sing… and this fine instrument fills the requirement very nicely… much better than the other 12 strings that I tried and owned… and of course the unique pickup and preamp combination fills out the excellence of the sound. I have a Custom Legend Ovation and a Custom Elite Ovation… both black with abalone compliments… and this black beauty fits right in with my signature axes… Looks great adorning the stage… and sounds as good as it looks!!! Then there is Sweetwater… one awesome company in every respect!!! And sales engineer Ashton Boyd… what can I say??? The patience of Job with me… always kind and extremely helpful in every respect… making sure that I have what I need and what I want… We have been doing business for several years now and he has NEVER let me down… and always goes the extra mile to take care of me… and always has a smile in his voice… for this I am truly blessed.

Waited a while to rate this guitar. When it arrived I was not happy. The guitar was flopping around in the box. The single piece of fiberboard supporting the neck had totally given away and the headstock was the main support when the guitar was flopping from side to side. It was OK in spite of poor packaging. Next issue was the setup. Had a significant dip in the neck and action on high E string was over 8/64th. Loosened strings and truss rod, let it set in humidified room for over 1 day. Adjusted truss rod and got out my file to have a pretty flat fretboard and low action. Now it plays great. QIT pickup is better than most piezo systems. A Seymour Duncan Woody with Fishnan PlatinunPro EQ works better. Wish they offered it without electronics. If you haven't got the tools and setup experience, a local dealer can do it for you. All said and done, good guitar for the money if you have a little expertise and patience.Bob

the neck wasn't leveled the frets were sharp on the edges, the six string neck set up higher than the 12. the electronics were cheap and micro-phonic. either neck didn't seem to have a finish on them. even as a beginning guitar it wouldn't be good without a lot of work.harrisonguitars08
This guitar is very nice in appearance but the playability is a bit lacking. The tuning keys on the 12 string were stiff and binding. The volume knob for the 12 string had a wiring problem. when I would turn the volume up,(10) for the 12 string the 6 string volume would be down quite a bit. So when I switched to the 6 string I had to put the volume knob on 8 for the 12 string to get full volume for the 6. I keep all my volume knobs on 10 and adjust my overall volume from the amp. There's supposed to be separate volume knobs for this guitar but like I said there was some kinda wiring glitch. Other then this it was very nice and the sound was exceptional.merw.tom

If you want a really nice D'ANGELICO acoustic then get something from the Excel line. But this is bottom of the premier line. This does the job for a early guitar, the neck is easy to play with low action to match. Put some warm strings on it. I recommend an 85/15 string and let it warm up and break in. It's a basic acoustic electric. It does what it says it will do. Nothing more or nothing less. I got it on an overstock sale but I'd buy it again at full price but maybe not the buttercream. The black or natural wood finish look the best. The buttercream is like they wanted the color of spruce with no grain. It's different for sure. If you're wanting something really nice save your money. If you want a decent backup not starter guitar this should fit the bill. My four star rating is with the full asking price in mind. i wrote a review early on with my first impressions. 3 months on it it still sounds great – it's been my sofa guitar and I've played it a great deal. The tone has mellowed a bit with use. Neck is still exactly where I set it and the whole guitar feels nicely solid. The big surprise is that this thing sounds FANTASTIC through a PA. It's balanced, it's dynamic, it has none of the harsh quackiness you usually get with low end piezo systems. You can hit it HARD without overdriving the pre. It can get nice and loud without feeding back and the onboard tuner is super handy. The first time I played it in public I was basically mobbed by other guitarists wanting to know where I got it. And this isn't even their high end pickup system. Remarkable.Stu
Ordered this on a SDOTD and will say right up front that it's a really NICE guitar, especially for the $$$. I was needing a smaller guitar w/ electronics for small venues, not needing to invest a bunch of money and after reading decent reviews I said "why not?". After opening the box things got off to a rocky start – – 1st string was broken, and also noticed the neck was really bowed from a loose truss rod, but since I do my own setups on new guitars these was fairly easy to remedy. So was the excessively dry fingerboard and bridge, which I rubbed with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil. But, two of the faux mother-of-pearl position markers were sticking up on one end (loose) and that got me to thinking maybe this was a bad idea. I almost boxed it up and sent it back, but since it was so nice otherwise I decided to super glue them back and overlook it. Otherwise, a beauty of a guitar, and after it was all set up this thing really sang. Unplugged, it's fairly unimpressive, but with a decent tone and plenty of harmonics. The fingerboard turned out to play wonderfully, low nice action with smooth frets and I love the thin profile and fairly narrow width of the neck, the shining point of this guitar. Tuners were OK, and the BONE saddle and nut were fine after I lowered the action a bit. The sound of this guitar is amazing plugged in, and the D'Angelico branded electronics are outstanding. Plugged in it sounds equal to anything I've ever heard, and I heard and played a few in my 60 years of performing. Mine does not have a phase switch as is listed, so take note of that one point. The really great thing that I love about the electronics – – the input jack & battery are on the rear bottom side instead of through the normal end pin jack, a major convenience that is not listed, so this makes up for any other minor cons of the guitar. 18. Fuji-Penco M70 1970s
