Always wanted a real deal Japanese made PS10. Got an awesome deal on an open box unit. This is a beautiful instrument! Fit and Finish is far superior than that of the PS120. This is probably one of the only Iceman/similar models that I've seen Ibanez have an actual stock of for left-handed guitarists. I've scoured the internet for years, no luck usually. Then I found this beauty. From the second I got it out of the box, it became my new favorite, go-to first guitar. What I absolutely love most is the neck. It's a thinner C-shape, very smooth, makes for very easy leads across every inch of the fretboard. Plug it into a Marshall, play the solo to "Strutter" or "Love Gun," and you will hear that glorious 70s rock tone that Kiss is known for. Or drop the tuning down and use it as a workhorse metal guitar like I am doing right: it does the job just as well as the more expensive ESPs I own with active pickups! Only real gripe is it's NEVER sold with a case! Trust me, I've looked! The Iceman's shape has the same problem as the Flying V or BC Rich Warlock: it looks cool, but cases for it that are not custom made or made by Ibanez tend to be harder to find because of its scale and oddball dimensions. The standard Iceman case (IC200, I think is its name) WILL fit it, fortunately! The draw back is that will set you back about another $200, unless you can find one used. So if you ever expect to have this guitar leave your house, expect to drop 1200-1300 altogether to get the guitar AND the case. That being said, I still recommend it to lefty guitarists that are trying to upgrade to pro-level gear, as it is still a great value. The tonal versatility this guitar (from its Duncan '59 and Custom 5 pickups) has very easily rivals (or even outperforms, depending on who you ask!) those of the newly launched left handed Explorer from Gibson, and out of the gate will still costs you HUNDREDS less even after taxes, shipping, AND the case are worked in. So if you want glorious tone, sexy looks, and one of the most iconic shapes in guitar history as a lefty, you cannot go wrong with the PS120L. Hop to and get one!!!Dan K. from Headvent

I was in two minds whether to buy this after seeing some lacklustre reviews and having owned a korean iceman before that was truly, truly horrible, however it holds it's place in history as really being the first japanese guitar that was not a copy and was improved hardware wise by Paul Stanley. However I am pleased to say this is actually very nice. The neck is very comfortable and very fast, the fretting is excellent and was set to spec and played well out of the box, the nut was cut to spec and fine, though for this price I would have expected a bone nut. Pots are cheap and again for this price should have been quality ones, also it would have been nice to have a gibraltar bridge like the original (though this does not affect the playing). the binding looks great and the guitar is well balanced. Yes it is made in China but the Seymour Duncans sound fantastic and the guitar has a clarity that is extremely impressive. Really enjoy playing this guitar, all I would advise is after reading some reviews it is probably best to physically try one in the shop to be sure. Lovely guitaraichan

I had a great experience with Musiciansfriend. I called my gear advisor, Scott, and he went the extra mile to answer all of my questions over about a two week period. My guitar weighs just under 10 pounds. The set up was superb with a low action and near perfect intonation. Phenomenal sound. Just amazing. Each string rings out clear and balanced. This is my first Gibson. I am a Fender player ('69 Jaguar, '97 Strat) so I was afraid I wouldn't like the warm tones of the humbuckers (nearly went with P90 because of this), but I can't compliment this guitar enough. It's a legend for a reason. The only bad thing is the case. It's obvious that Gibson doesn't take as much care in quality control for their cases. Pea sized bubble on the exterior and lining already coming unglued. However, musiciansfriend is working to right this for me.Jonathan

Overall: Ordered my 60's Les Paul in Unburst on Thursday February 10th. I paid for overnight shipping cause I couldn't wait & zZounds didn't disappoint. The figured top is beautiful. zZounds lets you pick the Les Paul you want by serial number & the top looks even better in person, I couldn't be happier. The fit & finish is excellent. Wow, does this guitar growl. These pickups are so hot, I was startled when I turned up the amp. On clean, every note in a chord is articulated brilliantly. And the sustain is strikingly long and full. I thought the fit and finish was exceptional, and appreciate the quality considering the price. It makes my other guitars feel like I'm riding a bike with a flat tire. It's just not a fair comparison. I am afraid I will have to upgrade my entire fleet now – it has spoiled me. I am more gratified with the purchase than I anticipated.Howard

Very light, around 5lbs, lighter than my f holed Gibson LP, slightly quieter acousticly, but much louder than my solid Fender Strat. While the price was in the same ball park as these two other guitars, the finish and build quality is a considerable step up, and it arrived as though a good luthier had recently set it up. The other two guitars took several hours adjustment and tweaking when purchased (elsewhere), this guitar is set up so good I will leave well alone! The pickups are very well matched and balanced, the bridge pup splits well, the single coil setting very usable, and full humbucker not as harsh sounding as the "vintage" PAF on the LP. The neck D single coil pup sounds quite similar to the custom 69's I have put in the strat, which I really like, but I actually like the D better, as it cleans up very smoothly, is fuller, and more chimey. The switch, volume and tone are slightly cheap feeling, but they are very well positioned and have a very even taper. I put an Emerson Custom wiring harness inc. pots etc. in the Strat, they're not quite as even as those, but better than the LP. Also very useable tone and volume combinations. Cleans up really well with the volume, doesn't sound weedy at lower levels, tone control usable throughout its range across all pup combinations. Very comfortable and easy to play, the neck is the most consistent out of the three guitars I have referenced, and the satin finish is really very comfortable compared with standard nitro finish or even poly satin. The grain is quite pronounced all over the guitar, and adds something great. However, the frets are not rolled quite as well as on the Gibson, but better finished than the Strat. Could be a stylistic choice, but I think Gibson neck a little better, it's bound and pleked, but there still isn't much in it. PRS feels more precise, Gibson a bit more sumptuous. Super easy string change, all from the top, leave guitar on back for whole thing, locking tuner design best I've seen. Haven’t had to do this yet as PRS strings it came with are fine. I usually use NYXL strings but PRS are perfectly useable. I had to change the strings on all previous guitars when I bought them before any serious use. This guitar produces an amazing range of sounds. It can be as snappy as a telecaster, maybe even more so, brass saddles and brass in the nut I believe, (although looks like a type of Tusq PTFE nut) give it a distinctly tele twang. Use just humbucker in the bridge and it's quite like the LP. Middle pos very funky and stratty sounding. Roll off tone and neck pup gets jazzy, takes out the nasal twang. Overdrive sounds good with all pup combinations, from light crunch to full on screaming sustain. They've all got their own thing happening, I will be experimenting and finding new sounds for some time I am sure. Could be more versatile than the other two guitars put together? I have owned many many guitars and am a Guitar Tech and Professional Musician by trade. So a well built, reliable, extremely versatile, easy to play guitar is essential! This guitar fits that bill and the some! Outstanding value for an American made guitar! This guitar is what I love: simple, solid build, can play literally everything, is very easy to play and setup, and sounds ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I literally play every genre: Metal, Classic Rock, Country, R&B, Worship, Funk, Blues, Jazz, Pop, etc. This guitar handles all those flawlessly! I love how the pickups are very full, chunky, and warm sounding, but also have the extreme clarity and dynamics that I love. Definitely worth the money for American made! I've played guitar for 56 years and I have to confess that I'm not the player who hangs on to any guitar forever. I still have my first guitar, but I even sold it as a kid, but got it back later. Early in 2020 I decided to sell all my electric gear to buy the best acoustic I've ever owned, because as this stage in life – that is what I perform with. Toward the end of this summer I was getting close to the last payment on the acoustic and felt a tug to get another electric, but not one that would break the bank. Since 2004 my electric guitars were typically PRS core models (some 10 tops) or Don Grosh custom models (and Grosh guitars will always be my all time favorite). At this time I couldn't afford the Grosh I wanted, and though I could have pulled off a more high end PRS, I knew that I've always felt that the gorgeous flame tops were too flashy for me. The PRS S2 Standard 22 offered the pickup combo I wanted and the coil tap option. I wanted a trem and I wanted a simple finish. On top of that "made in America" was a must. Having enjoyed PRS necks and quality build, the S2 was a good sound choice for a guitar I could pay off in a few months. The pickups can sing, and I can dial in many tone options. I'll admit that I hoped the split coil feature would be bolder, but I'll be using the full humbucker mode 99% of the time. The pickups can rock, do jazz, country-fry your licks and even though others say they won't – I've dialed in some serious metal. Playing around the other day with a new pre-amp, I found myself with that amazing feedback you hear on many Larry Carlton tunes. I also need to mention that the trem and locking tuners wrok great and you won't find this combo on many USA guitars in this price range. Sustain, resonance, comfort, great frets and a ba-zillion other things that make this a wonderful guitar. These compliments come from a player who has owned many guitars now selling for $3500 to $4800 dollars.Jon

I like that its heavier than the other micro's – easier to play standing. The odd shape makes it easier to play sitting. Pickups ok but work well with stomp boxes. Needed extensive set up for action and intonation. Regular slinkies didn't work too well. Better to use power slinkies. I like the large fret inlays. The micro is quite comfortable and easy to play.Walter

The guitar is a good player, no complaints there. I have purchased other open box demo's that claimed slightly scuffed normal wear/store demo. This was severe cosmetic damage with paint and binding missing. Luckily I like a luthier challenge and was able to take several days to layer the paint to camouflage the areas. I will probably hide the most noticeable flaw with abalone binding stickers which will make it look more like the full-scale model. Most other sellers would have included pictures of something that significant. Overall, with a bit of elbow grease, I will probably spend significantly less on the open box model even with buying stickers because I already had the paint. Bottom line if you don't have "fix it" skills, don't buy open box. Even with a brand new perfect guitar out of the box, I would give it four stars. It needed a string change.HighD

This is PRS's version of a vintage style Gibson Les Paul. John Mayer dubs it "the best new guitar I've played in years". I say it is the best guitar I've played. It is the ultimate Les Paul. My band was in awe of it's tone. I'm surprised by how noticeably better the tone is than my 2015 PRS Custom 22 Stoptail. I thought the CU22 was amazing, but the 594 blows it away. I've owned 3 Les Pauls: 1973 Custom, 1991 Standard, and 2017 Standard HP. The PRS 594 beats them all in tone, playability, tuning and comfort. The only thing PRS doesn't have is the cool looking Gibson headstock, but that design is why Gibson's dont stay in tune.Raz

First off, this guitar is just a work of art on its own. Surprising versatility as a hollow-body. Has a very rich, round, earthy tone on clean but can handle it when you dial up the gain as well.Will

I tried two of the PRS 509s. I was disappointed because in my opinion the pickups were not as defined as my PRS 513s. First the 509 does not have heavy humbucker as does the 513. BEcause I perform such a variety of music I need Single, Clean, and Heavy. Second the neck clean humbucker was not as clear as my 513's. It seemed a little darker. The 509 bridge clean humbucker seemed not to have the drive the 513 has. Third. And here is the kicker with the 509. In Pseudo Single Coil Tap Mode it is NOT truly single coil mode. You see there is some coil sharing from the other bobbin to keep the volume from dropping to noticeably. Therefore, the sound is not a single coil sound. Fourth. Also, another sticky point. With the switch position in bridge and middle pickup you do get that Strat quacking sound however with the neck and middle switch position you don't really get that quack like the 513 does. I has to do with which bobbin is being used as the main bobbin. With the 513 there is truly single coil mode because only one bobbin is activated. I did buy one of the 509s. I thought I could get used to it or set it up different. I am still sorry I did. I would rather buy another 513. I also have a PRS Custom 24-08.(with the 498 pickups). Now that sounds great because in single coil mode they really only activate the one coil. All that being said it might be just right for some guitarists.prs32164

So this is my first PRS and I took a gamble on getting an import SE model. Normally I prefer US made Gibsons and have got used to the fit and finish on those. So with that said that should put you into my mindset. So the finish is spectacular no blemishes, runs, or bubbles. So if you’re looking for a wall hangar yes! Now into the playability, the frets are finished and smoothed out perfectly. The fretboard is channel bound and rolled, so it feels really good. The tuners feel like real tuners, meaning not wiggly and they all have consistent turn pressure (not too loose, not too tight) hopefully they’ll stay that way, but since they are to standard PRS specs, easy replacement with an upgraded tuner if need be. The bridge is solid with brass saddles, feels great against the palm with no sharp edges. Wood under transparent finish has a little bit of movement and a nice grain. Electronics leave something to be desired. The push pull tone pot rolls like a skateboard wheel while the volume has a nice resistance with consistent roll. The selector switch is middle of the road, not great, but not “I have to replace this now”. However with electronics easily swappable this is not a negative mark at this price point. So to summarize everything wood that can’t be fixed doesn’t need to be, electronics are going to get you down the road but are candidates for full upgrade. For $699 this is a solid guitar and I have no regrets. It will stay in my rack.Clay

This guitar is pretty good for the money. The only problem I'm seeing with mine is the tuners are not great. They do the job but I'm replacing mine with some Schiller locking tuners. Also I'm putting in some new pickups that I have, a JB and a 59. The stock pups don't sound all that bad though, just a bit to dark it seems. We will see how it turns out. Fun to play also, light weight and easy to hold. Give it a try, you might be surprised.Scott

Excellent guitar at any price point. Very playable neck . Nice hardware . I've read reviewers complaining about the tuners. The tuners are not the problem. The tuners do not keep your guitar in tune. Proper stringing and string stretching does , also humidity changes can affect tuning. The bridge is heavy duty compared to what you get on an Epiphone , even the expensive Epiphones. The pickups are really good , no need to upgrade unless you are looking for something specific. In most cases you can get a great tone by using pedals and preamp pedals. I use a preamp pedal into my effects loop . It gives a great base clean tones to put your pedals in front of. Mine came setup how I like it . I used a string gauge to check the measurements. It's exactly how I set my guitars up . All I had to do was stretch the strings and tune it . I still have the factory strings on it . Guitars today come with brand name strings on them for the most part and I'm not picky anyway , I usually use Ernie Ball Rock n Roll strings . I'm no Kiss fan , I bought it because I love the body style . It has no neck neck dive , I used it in band practice a few nights ago . I have a nice leather strap for it . It may dive if you use a cheap nylon strap though. The body and neck binding is a nice touch. The pickguard is a little cheap looking but who cares ? Great guitar , get you one !Jeffrey
