Paul Mccartney Guitar Collection For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I have wanted a Les Paul since I was in high school in the 1980s. For my 50th birthday (Jan 2022) I really was determined to get one. But, on a country church pastor's salary, no chance at a Gibson, even Epiphones were pricey for me. Thanks to some generous friends who saw a post of mine on social media about my dream guitar. They took up a collection and told me to buy a guitar! So I did! I purchased the Translucent Blue. It is everything I hoped it would be and dreamed of having since I was in high school. Ordinarily, not a fan of factory strings, usually change strings first thing when I get a guitar. But this sounded fantastic out of the box. It's not very often a product lives up to expectations, much less exceeds them. This Les Paul is everything I hoped and then some. The Translucent Blue is an absolutely GORGEOUS intstrument. It plays great, sounds fantastic. Be warned, Les Pauls are heavy guitars. If you're used to something more lightweight, this may be a surprise. I've played them before, I was expecting it to be heavy. This feature might turn some off, but I'm fine with it. Bottom line, if you're pondering getting this guitar, make the leap! Holy wowzers I'll try to keep this quick. I'm one of those guys that has had TONS of guitars. I currently own 10. I had a Gibson LP but ended up parting with it years ago and have recently started wanting one again. Did a lot of research on just about every LP clone out there including ones from Japan, etc. Why not just get a Gibson you say? Well obviously because of the price tag and how much extra it costs to get the name on the head-stock. In no way do you need to spend triple to quadruple the amount it takes to get a Gibson if you don't feel like it these days. These Epi's are cut using the same exact machine that the Gibsons are cut on here in the USA. The same wood is used. This particular model even has CTS pots, a GraphTech nut, and ProBucker pickups. The major difference is China. Yes, China. I would have balked at that years ago, but I also own a J. Mascis Jazzmaster that is made in China and it is absolutely flawless… just like this Epiphone. As a bonus, the "made in China" is only a sticker. You can just remove it so you'll feel much better about yourself when you look at it haha. Without rambling on and on, I always check Guitar Center online to see what is available at my local stores when I am in the market. This one caught my eye because I'm a sucker for quilt top LP's. I called in and had the local dude confirm it was there and he said it hadn't even been taken out of the box yet. BONUS! I rushed to the store and got to unbox it myself. I always like to see guitars like this in person to make sure the top looks good and there are no glaring QC issues. In this case I was extremely satisfied. It came right out of the box with perfect action and perfect intonation. Literally all I had to do was stretch the strings and tune up and it was ready to rock. Here are a couple more nuggets before I sign off to play it more. The frets on this one are nailed. Smooth and polished. The quilt top is unbelievably gorgeous (just look at the pics). The weight is about right for a LP. Chunky and not too light like a super shredder. I love that. The pickups are exactly what I need in my collection. They will do just about anything but super clean chimey ambient tones but who cares, I have other guitars for that. All of the switches and pots feel excellent so I am feeling like I will not have to change one thing on this guitar making it a steal at this price. If I had to nitpick one thing, I would like to see Gibson "allow" Epiphone to use the same exact head-stock shape that the Gibsons use. Fender does it with Squiers so what's up with that Gibson??? While the new "inspired by" Gibson head-stock is WAY better than the older ones, it is still a shame they are so hard headed and that is yet another reason why I chose to get an Epiphone. Again, that is being extremely nitpicky. In conclusion, the newer mid to upper end Epiphone guitars are worthy of checking out by any level of player. Do yourself a favor and at least pick one up if you get the chance. Now excuse me while I go blow my windows out.Mark

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhkkkkk The new Standard 60s that I received was was being waited for like a scene in a movie when parents are waiting for a stork to bless them with a bundle of joy. Well the stork for me was gruff lookin FedEx driver that was delivering my new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s. After it was delivered I placed it gently before me and began to unwrap the newest member of the family. So, you know those movies when you expect to see elation on the face of the actor after they open something up but instead it turns to the face of horror, well, that was me. As I opened up the the lid of the case I saw bits of gold flakes and plastic. It was the volume knob that had been smashed. I then looked at the case and the bottom of the case appeared to be damaged. After pulling picking up the pieces and placing them in a bag i played the LP and it was amazing but had obviously been knocked around too much for me to keep. It was tough though, the low end on this guitar was hypnotizing and the highs were like blissful chimes that rang clean yet without shrillness. The weight is amazing and the thus the sustain is like the Energizer Bunny. Anyway, I called AMS, they offered a replacement but I wouldn't be able to choose the serial number for the replacement, so I would have no idea what it looked like; I want to choose what guitar I am buying. So now I have a prepaid return shipping label in my email and a trip to the "stork" in my future. It's very unfortunate that this guitar was not packaged better because it is an amazing sounding guitar. I am buying another one.Mike

Overall: I've had 4 other gibsons and this one is the prettiest of them all. The color, how it fades from a dark red, to bright red then amber. The flame is just right on both sides. It has nearly every different kind of flame in certain spots but consistently has horizontal flame from top to bottom. It's a killer top. It's set up well but the action does need to be lowered and some relief put on the neck but overall not bad. The slim 60s neck is very nice. Its not chunky but not thin either, its right in the sweet spot. It sounds amazing, alnico Vs are hotter than a firecracker. Now the cons- It had about a 4 inch surface scratch on the top where your right arm rests when I inspected it after opening the case. The Grover tuners are nice and keep it in tune but I wish this exact guitar was offered with Kluson deluxe tuners. I prefer the green tulip look. Then there's the graph tech nut. I wish it had a bone nut but ill take care of that later. All in all it's a keeper, for life. Thank yoy zZoundsRyan

I've had the guitar for a couple weeks now and it's been the main guitar I've played during that time and it's incredibly hard to put down. The neck is thin but not too thin. It's a good medium profile. This is also one of the lightest Les Pauls I've ever played. The guitar is extremely resonate and loud acoustically. This could just be luck of the draw finding this specific Les Paul, because I've played a few 60's standards and not all of them were like this one. This one was definitely the best one I tried of this model. I have yet to gig with it yet, but I can't wait to. I've tried it in Standard, Eb Standard, Drop D, and Drop C# and it sounded and reacted great in all four tunings with little need for adjustments. The only con I've found is occasionally the higher strings seem to choke out slightly, but that should be easily remedied with some minor adjustments, and they don't choke out enough to really hurt playability.Eric

Overall: I've been a guitarist since the late 80's, but I no longer play professionally, but I do play at home a lot. I've sold off most of my Gibsons (I held on to my '19 Les Paul Traditional) and I'm having a blast with these new Epi models. Everyone is raving about the Standard and the '59 models, and rightfully so. I own both, as well as a new Custom Silverburst and they're all great. This Classic is no exception. It actually arrived needing the least amount of setup work of all the others. The Alnico Classic Pros are brighter and a bit hotter than the Probuckers, but they're not at all harsh. The electronics work as expected, the neck pickup sounds sweet when split and the Phase feature sounds good with some moderate gain. The nut was cut extremely well and the frets don't need really much dressing. The neck is a little slimmer than what I'm used to, but it's easy adapting. The fretboard is a bit dry, but that's normal. Actually, these new Epiphone models all arrived in better condition than most of my Gibsons did in the past. The new Epiphone models are players guitars. Not wall art or collector's (cork sniffers) guitars, I wouldn't hesitate to take any of them to a gig and have fun with them. That's the whole point, right? I just wish they had made import guitars of this quality when I first started playing.Uriah

Out of the box and tuned, this guitar was completely unplayable with the neck so bent that pressing the strings at anywhere beyond the 8th fret fouled the frets higher up the neck, this also meant the action (measured at the 12th fret) was over 6mm. Fortunately I’ve a good understanding of how to set-up a guitar so adjusted the neck to have minimal relief with the truss rod – as a point of interest there was no truss rod allen key in the box, so just as well that I have my own tools. Once the action was set to my preferred settings (and by no means not as low as many like it) I had loads of fret buzz all over the place. So resetting the neck flat and using a ‘fret rocker’ I found 17 of the 22 frets (at various points across the neck) in need of remedial work to get them level. However as the guitar was new I decided initially to just add a bit more neck relief & set the action a shade higher, while I decided if I should just send it back or spending some hours sorting the frets in the near future? There are some positive points! I really liked the ‘worn’ (satin) finish although I feel there should have been a higher discount over the gloss finished versions as this must have saved loads of time during the finishing process. The Alnico Classic PRO pickups sound powerful with loads of variation between the neck and bridge and support coil-splitting. With the coils split option, with push/pull volume pots, there is (as expected) a significant drop in output but they do sound good, verging on P90 territory, rather than Strat/Tele sound ‘alikes’. One of the areas that lower cost guitars usually fail on is the quality of the tuners, here they have fitted Grover Rotomatics with an 18:1 ratio. They are smooth and easy to operate with the large kidney button heads, holding tune very well. The nut, a Graph Tech, was superbly cut, but unfortunately this was completely wasted with the poor quality of fret levelling from the factory as several of the strings would buzz when played open when set at a reasonably low action! The trapezoid neck inlays are very well fitted and although acrylic, do a very good impersonation of mother of pearl. Visually the guitar look stunning with its unusual colour and matt (worn) finish, but I do find the inclusion of gold knobs a bit of a clash with the all Nickel hardware and at the back cream control plate covers just don’t look right and should have been black. But both of these last two issues are a really cheap to resolve at about £12 for both black cover plates and 4 clear knobs. Overall both positives & negatives to consider and if I’d been unable to adjust the guitar myself, there would have been no option but to just send it back for a refund/replacement (hence 3 stars which I think is quite generous) as it is I’ll be keeping this. If I could have bought this locally it would have been great to try before I bought, but my local Epiphone dealer (90 mile round trip) didn’t have any in stock and was unlikely to get one, so I went the mail order route. The guitar is now playing well and will be even better when I get the time to sort out the frets and put a set of 9-42 gauge strings on.Paul

This guitar is absolutely stunning. At about $450 the Epiphone Les Paul Special certainly hits its price point without question. This is the 2nd time I bought this guitar, but I couldn't resist buying this again. I'll start with the cons first, that I noticed applied to both Special's I've owned.. The poly finish is thick. The combination of the "tv yellow" color and the thick polyurethane sort of gives a toy like feeling, or a bit of a cheapness to it.. Speaking of "tv yellow," it's really more of a Dijon mustard/ Carmel color. I don't think that's a bad thing or ugly by any means, but as other reviewers may have stated, the Epiphone isn't quite as accurate to its high end counterpart. The pickup routes and control cavity were also a little bit choppy, but that's just nit picking. If you buy this guitar, you will most likely need a setup. 2nd time around, I knew that going in but both guitars I bought needed set ups. That being said, this guitar is awesome. Surprisingly the laurel fingerboard was really smooth and moist. I do not sense bad or tall frets, but are scratchy at first. The P90 pros are so good. The CTS pots are so dynamic. The volume and tone sweeps combined with these P90 pros are so dynamic and touch sensitive, that they can hang with the best of em. The guitar resonates so well and plays both clean and crunchy top notch. Punchy and warm…Absolute quality electronics. I haven't found a bad tone in any position. If your used to playing your guitars with everything at 10, this guitar with inspire you to play around with all the tonal possibilities by simply rolling in & out your pots. The neck on this is fat, and so nice but not absurd. I highly recommend it. For the price, you can't go wrong and will love the tones, just plan on getting a setup and you will absolutely love this guitar.Zac F

Looks great, sounds great, plays great. One of the nicest gig bags I've ever seen. Came out of the box at the store set up and tuned! Fit and finish were perfect and the wine red just pops under stage lighting…unlike the one that was on display…and this is why I don't buy guitars online! Got it home, changed the strings to the gauge I prefer, lowered the string height a smidge, and checked the intonation which was spot on. Took it to a pro jam out in the valley where it got lots of compliments from the other players for it's sound and looks…it's as nice a Les Paul as I've ever played. If you get one like mine you won't regret it! But go to the GC and pick yours out and save yourself some possible grief. You won't regret that either!Stephen

I bought my first Les Paul in 1974. I was a little concerened about the new "lightend and improved" version but it turned out to be great. Pickups are better. Feels great, plays great and all around great guitar at a good price. Required minimal set up to play really good. I liked it so much, I bought another one 3 weeks later. I love my Strats but right out of the box, they require a lot of work to make them play and stay in tune. Got my first Strat in 72. If I was a kid (I'm in my 60's), I would choose this Les Paul Studio first. Because it is easier to set up and play right out of the box. I love my Strats, but this is a really good guitar.Stephen C

Still a novice player, but decided that I had stuck with it long enough to justify spending a bit more than I had spent on my used Squier Strat. After reading a ton of reviews and watching a bunch of YouTube videos, I chose the LP Studio in Smokehouse Burst. Wow! What an incredible difference. I find it easier to play with a wider fretboard and the sound is just amazing. I'm not sure if I just got a good one or if Gibson has stepped up their QA game as mine does not display the defects described by other reviews here. I have not found any cosmetic or fit/finish flaws. The color also closely resembles the photos with just a slightly darker shade on the burst. It is an absolutely gorgeous instrument and I couldn't be more satisfied with it. I know that Gibson switched over to the soft case rather than the hard one to save costs, but quite frankly, I don't see that they could have saved too much. The soft case is very high quality and with the exception of shipping or air travel, I feel that my guitar is well protected when put away. Although, I doubt that I'll ever be traveling to perform in this lifetime. Thanks Gibson. Great job on a beautiful instrument.ArmchairAstro

Overall: I purchased this guitar from zZounds about 2 years ago. Black and amazing: Before I made the move I played over 100 Gibson Les Paul and other brands, every time I came back to this exact model as the "Standard" to compare, after 6 months or so I pulled the trigger and received this Les Paul. The only thing I have a problem with is I wish I had all colors as this guitar will be a collector in time. The neck, profile, binging, hardware, pickups and electronics are perfect, not a single issue. The tone pull knows are extremely functional and the lower right tone when its "pulled up" is all on gain, treble tone and right into lead solo's without playing pickup selector and tones adjustment. Brilliant.This is players guitar, not a case queen. So glad Gibson came back from the dead.I've owned original 1969 Les Paul's and some 60 Stratocasters all of which have been narrowed down to 4 amazing Stratocasters, and a few other gems for live, scoring to film and all go to instruments.BUY THIS GUITAR and YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.I am not endorsed by any companies!!!!Michael S. I've been playing guitar for almost 4o years and have always wanted a Gibson Les Paul because my favorite players use them. As a teenager, I couldn't afford one and saved up for a Washburn WP-80 (licensed les paul custom copy) and loved it. Ever since it has been my #1 and I've always regarded Gibson to be all about the name and not really worth the money. Well, I heard about the new Gibson line up a few years ago, decided to check them out, and discovered the Les Paul Classic model. It checked all of the boxes for my dream guitar. Plain top subtle burst, bound body and neck, coil splitting buckers, and weight relief. I saved up and ordered it through MF and it arrived 3 days later (on my birthday, no less!). Man, I don't know why I waited so long to own a Gibson. It is the sweetest playing/sounding/smelling guitar I have ever held. I was concerned about the wood grain when ordering sight unseen, but was relieved when I finally opened the case (see pics). Set up was good right out of the box. Pickups sound amazing, clear, open, and woody. The only disappointment was that the "9-hole" weight relief really isn't that noticeable. It's still a hefty Paul. Which is fine now, because I'm getting older and usually play sitting down. Also, there is a "freckle" on the fretboard. I know some would take issue with that, but to me tiny little imperfections like that just make the guitar special and unique, and It doesn't affect playing at all. Overall, I LOVE this guitar and am very satisfied!Ryan

This model of Goldtone squareneck resonator is absolutely best in class. I own two (tuned differently). Incredible bell like tone, sweet wailing and LOUD. I have been playing lapsteel for 40+ years. The color of the front of the guitar on this MF site is horrible. You can get some idea of color by the photo of the back of the guitar on this site. Best photos are on Paul Beard's store site. I ordered my first Gold Tone PBSDeluxe blind. The second one I ordered a year later through Paul Beard's shop because he goes through them and sets them up and changes anything that is not perfect. Once the second one arrived and I heard it, I shipped my first one to across country to have them do a set-up and also install a Fishman Aura pick up like I did with the other. Well worth it, even if you buy it through MF.Bugs

Been playing for 20 years and I've had my fair share of instruments. This guitar is a cut above many in its price point. USA built, solid construction and rings like a bell. No it's not a core model that looks fancy but, you get all the goods of a PRS. Pickups in this are not really suited for metal out of the box but, you can go old school and boost it and get that saturated goodness. But if your thing is rock, hard rock, blues, country etc this guitar will be awesome in your arsenal. I was scared that the neck would be thin but when I opened the bag and grabbed the guitar, I was greeted with a full neck that fits like glove in my hand. Thin necks aren't my thing and never have been. However says you need a slim neck to play fast is wrong it only makes it a bit easier for some hand types. Bottom line, great guitar, great sound and amazing build quality. Grab one!Brian B

Overall: This guitar looks incredible. However, with the low output pickups, the sound starts to cut out unless you have the volume dimed. Also, any high notes played beyond the 12th fret sustain about 7 seconds. This is VERY disappointing. I have cheap guitars that preform better. For $4,200 dollars, I did expect perfection. Sad PRS, sounds like a 300 dollar guitar.Casey

Overall: First off I'd like to respond to the previous reviewer. He stated that there was zero sustain with the 594. The specs state that the pickups are LT which means Low Turn. The guitar was built for the vintage gang out there and these particular pickups are not high output but that's nothing that a boost pedal won't remedy. Had the previous reviewer researched this instrument, he would have found that the pickups excel in clarity and definately have the vintage vibe. What Paul was trying to do was make an instrument that would have followed the progression of a Les Paul. Also if the reviewer wanted a guitar for anything including hard rock and metal, he should have picked up the Custom 22 or 24. With that being said, I love this model and have had one for several years. I will also be buying another one but a single cut this time in March. If you want quality buy a PRS or Music Man. You just can't go wrong with PRS..Matt

Overall: I was apprehensive about spending this kind of money on a guitar. I own several American Fenders and Gibsons and I didn't know much about the PRS lineup. I was in love the first time I played it. The action and tone are a whole new level. This will not be my last PRS. It's gorgeous and plays like a dr team.Mark

What a brilliant guitar and superb value package! I have owned ‘real’ Gibsons over the years and bought this outfit as a birthday gift for my granddaughter who is learning to play. She has had a fender acoustic for a couple of years and now wants her own electric guitar. I chose this outfit as having previously owned one in the past I like Epiphone guitars. Before giving it to her I thought it best to check it over and set it up but there was nothing to do really, after tuning this guitar was perfectly playable right out the box! The feel, balance and weight is very like my Gibson and the sound is superb. The amp is excellent and packs enough punch to put a smile on your face too. She’s delighted with the built in tuner as well as the other essentials included in the outfit. What’s not to like? I can’t find a better value package!W O.

My original review still stands, but I made cosmetic-only upgrades for less than an average couple's meal at a casual restaurant that makes this look much, much more expensive. No tuner, pickup or pot swaps. Replaced black plastic parts with cream, added cream pickguard, replaced chrome tuner knobs with Klausen-style ivory-look knobs. Installed chrome pickup covers. Replaced speed knobs with gold top-hats.Easily done to make this look like a proper Les Paul. I'm happy with the looks for the little extra money spent.Steve

As the song says: "I'm a Sucker for a Cheap Guitar". I own over 30 – some cheap, some not so cheap. This one arrived perfectly set up: low action, no buzzing, no sharp fret edges, easy to play – amazing for a guitar in this price range. Although not great, the pickups even sounded acceptable. It's heavy, which to me means good, though not as heavy as my Gibson. It's OK-looking, but needed something to enhance it – a pickguard. I added one and it looks much better – more expensive. Instead of cutting off part of the guard to accommodate the knob as I've seen some others do, I drilled a hole big enough for the nut on the body underneath the knob to fit through the guard (see photos). Since the guard isn't much thicker than the nut, it allowed the guard to fit flush with the body and the knob to turn without any restriction of motion, and the pickguard is not butchered. It's a very clean look – like it came that way – not modified. So, I am pleased with this instrument, and would recommend it to anyone for any purpose: especially beginners to play or someone like me who just collects cheap guitars to hang on the wall of their studiio.Steve

I am over the moon with this guitar. I would never have guessed I would purchase an all mahogany Les Paul in a million years, But after trying every other one on hanging on their wall, this one just kept drawing me in, like some magnetic force. It's very true the guitar picks the player. I could'nt believe How amazing this neck feels in my hand. I've owned a couple Les Pauls over the years, but never really bonded with them. But this one, out of the 30 guitars I've owned over my life time, this neck is my favorite from a big manufacturer. Crazy thing is, it's pretty much exact spec on my favorite Warmoth neck I had ordered, only difference is it's just .04 inches wider. Just can't beat a compound radius fret board and the asymmetrical neck design just Fits my smallish hands like a glove, Finally found a Les Paul that I bond with. And man oh man do these pickups sound sweet! Nice Clarity and crunch, And flicking to the bridge pickup and just voiced perfectly to cut through the mix for a solo. I've never been a split/tap coil guy, but finding myself using that on this one. I really love the out of phase option, And I've had this guitar for a week and playing non stop, doing all kinds of bends and pull offs and has stayed rock solid in tune, even the pesky G string. It's quickly becoming my number one. Build quality is just about flawless, fretboard/fret work is immaculate. There is some scraping marks around the binding if you stare at it long enough, but doesn't bother me whatsoever. I looked it over with a magnifying glass and a fine pick comb to get to the bottom of the "bad Gibson Q.C." You all too often read about on the Internet the last few years (its popular to hate on Gibson) but I don't see it. I love this thing!!!! And it looks nothing like the online picture.Snoopzilla

I have been playing about two years and this is my first Gibson. Guitar Center has been great to work with as I have progressed. My first electric guitar was a Stratocaster and it plays very well, but nothing like this Gibson. The Gibson Les Paul Trad Pro V has an action that is low and smooth. There was a little buzz on the E string at the 1st and 2nd fret when I first played it in the store so the tech fixed it with a small tweak to the truss rod. The bottom line on the aspects of this guitar is that it has the asymmetrical neck of a very expensive modern model and the 9 hole weight relieved body of a classic. The electronics are a little overwhelming for me right now with the coil tap or splits. I would have given it a five stars, but I noticed the body and binding do not match up perfectly in the cutaway area. They don't have another one in the store and I like the way this one plays so much I would not trade it due to a minor imperfection. Great value as you are basically getting a modern model with the with the weight of a classic.Mike

Have played guitar 50+ years, all brands, makes, models. I love Telecasters but decided I need another Les Paul. I played a Heritage LP for years, sold it long ago and always regretted that decision. So, along comes this gorgeous guitar. I say gorgeous just from the photos. After reading tech info and several other reviews I decided to jump on it and so happy I did. It arrived perfect condition, perfectly set up only had to raise the bridge at top E string about a turn. the neck is set perfectly flat. I've always preferred just a little relief but as I recalled my Heritage LP it was always set flat and played so well. The tonal choices with coil tap pickups is great. I have not had time to fully explore, but using amp and head phones I swear I found a little area that has a Gretsch kind of tone (the one with no distortion). All in all, this is a keeper forever, so very glad to have this. And I will say, in person the satin finish is artwork, so beautiful. I chose the satin vintage cherry — best looking guitar I've seen. Add the fact that it has a pro Gibson case and you can't go wrong. Get it before it's gone.Brian O.

First off I would like to say the finish is beautiful. The playability is excellent. I play through a Fender Hot rod Deluxe ML series and the clean tones are wonderful. Through an overdrive, or a distortion pedal , it has plenty of growl and sustained. If you are on the fence, don't be. You will not be disappointed.John C

Really well made and the (I presume) mahogany veneer has a subtle depth to it, especially on the back. Coil split option would be nice but that doesn’t detract from a guitar that offers a good range of sounds with excellent playability.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe 70'S is an excellent guitar. I got a scratch and dent for the reduced price and I am very happy with the guitar. It has an awesome sound, and the Cherry Sunburst finished looks good (even with a few scratches on it). The guitar is excellent.Richard

This is PRS's version of a vintage style Gibson Les Paul. John Mayer dubs it "the best new guitar I've played in years". I say it is the best guitar I've played. It is the ultimate Les Paul. My band was in awe of it's tone. I'm surprised by how noticeably better the tone is than my 2015 PRS Custom 22 Stoptail. I thought the CU22 was amazing, but the 594 blows it away. I've owned 3 Les Pauls: 1973 Custom, 1991 Standard, and 2017 Standard HP. The PRS 594 beats them all in tone, playability, tuning and comfort. The only thing PRS doesn't have is the cool looking Gibson headstock, but that design is why Gibson's dont stay in tune.Raz

First off, this guitar is just a work of art on its own. Surprising versatility as a hollow-body. Has a very rich, round, earthy tone on clean but can handle it when you dial up the gain as well.Will

I tried two of the PRS 509s. I was disappointed because in my opinion the pickups were not as defined as my PRS 513s. First the 509 does not have heavy humbucker as does the 513. BEcause I perform such a variety of music I need Single, Clean, and Heavy. Second the neck clean humbucker was not as clear as my 513's. It seemed a little darker. The 509 bridge clean humbucker seemed not to have the drive the 513 has. Third. And here is the kicker with the 509. In Pseudo Single Coil Tap Mode it is NOT truly single coil mode. You see there is some coil sharing from the other bobbin to keep the volume from dropping to noticeably. Therefore, the sound is not a single coil sound. Fourth. Also, another sticky point. With the switch position in bridge and middle pickup you do get that Strat quacking sound however with the neck and middle switch position you don't really get that quack like the 513 does. I has to do with which bobbin is being used as the main bobbin. With the 513 there is truly single coil mode because only one bobbin is activated. I did buy one of the 509s. I thought I could get used to it or set it up different. I am still sorry I did. I would rather buy another 513. I also have a PRS Custom 24-08.(with the 498 pickups). Now that sounds great because in single coil mode they really only activate the one coil. All that being said it might be just right for some guitarists.prs32164

This model of Goldtone squareneck resonator is absolutely best in class. I own two (tuned differently). Incredible bell like tone, sweet wailing and LOUD. I have been playing lapsteel for 40+ years. The color of the front of the guitar on this MF site is horrible. You can get some idea of color by the photo of the back of the guitar on this site. Best photos are on Paul Beard's store site. I ordered my first Gold Tone PBSDeluxe blind. The second one I ordered a year later through Paul Beard's shop because he goes through them and sets them up and changes anything that is not perfect. Once the second one arrived and I heard it, I shipped my first one to across country to have them do a set-up and also install a Fishman Aura pick up like I did with the other. Well worth it, even if you buy it through MF.Bugs
