Reviews:
Bought the guitar on line through Guitar Center; Guitar Center is great. Out of the box, the guitar was playable but when being set up by my guitar tech, he discovered the fretboard was bowed at the connection point between the neck and the body. Ovation covered the repair under warranty. After being set up, the guitar plays great. Now I have a problem with the on board electronics and it is back to the shop for more warranty repairs. The guitar otherwise sounds and looks great. I was dissapointed that the guitar was made in Korea rather than the U.S. You get what you pay for. I own two other Ovation guitars and am very pleased with the sound and playability of all three guitars.
I rated this guitar a 1, if a Zero would have been a choice I would have given it a Zero. I absolutely hated this Guitar. I don't know if it just wasn't set up right or that's just the way Ovation sends out their Guitars. The string action on the middle to high end was just terrible, strings were so far off the fret board it was just miserable to play. If you don't mind playing the Guitar on the the first 3 frets you might be in business. For what Ovation charges for this piece of junk you think you would get a better playing guitar. What really sets me off is it ships in a cardboard box, no case. I hope Ovation sees this review and streightens up their act, in this competive world there a lot of other decent guitars for the same money, Ovation must be really trying to cut cost. I wish them well and hope they open their eyes. Bottom line, don;t waste your money. I woiuld never buy another Ovation agaiin. As if you didn't know, I did return the Guitar and hopefully will receive a refund.
I sold my old 1991 12 string Ovation custom legend and bought this guitar. I had GC take the two shims out of the bridge and the action is great; and the sound is great. A little loud compared to other guitars which is not a problem for me. This guitar sits on your stomach better than the old ovations; the back also provides access to the inside of the guitar. My 1991 Ovation was made in the USA and this one is made in Korea but has great craftsmanship. The Inlays on the neck are smaller and harder to see than my older model; I do miss that. This one sounds just as good or better than the USA made custome legend. This guitar is really beautiful to look at as well. I hope this helps. I am considering buying the 6 string 2778Ax too because I gave my 1994 6 string Ovation legend to my brother which plays excellently too. Note: Ovation backs will not expand and contract with the weather so I suggest you keep the guitar in the case when not in use with a humidifier as needed. Try them all and decide. This was the best for me.Audio Video Engineer

Reviews:
Professionals I know we're on board for me to get this in left handed for my daughter. Some reviews say set up was bad but I handed it to a friend to check out. Put on lighter strings just because of my daughters style not because of the way it came. Great set up. Shipped IN the case and well packed. How cool is that in this excess packaging world we live in? Go for it.Twosax
I'm not really sure what it is with half of us lefties playing this with a Christian tag, but I want to get this for use at my church. I found one in a local guitar store and have stopped in many time to play it, it is very worth the price listed here, but it seems like you can find these much cheaper at individual retailers, the one ive seen is only 250 dollars and it still works and plays fine. great guitar.Anonymous
Overall it appears to be a well built guitar, it sounds good. I like the removable preamp, the Ovation rounded back has not been a problem for me anyway. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because I have only had it a few days and want to use it more before I give it a ten Everything appears to be built well, It is built in Japan. When I received it both ovation and musicians friend had packed it well. I have only had it a few days but so far everything appears to be built well. I think that it sounds as good as more expensive guitars and has a good volume unplugged. I have not had it plugged in yet so I can't say on that.

Reviews:
I love Ovation Guitars. The neck is slim and easily playable. The frets are smooth. The action out of the box is good. This thin body guitar has sufficient volume unplugged and sounds great plugged in. This is a great mid value guitar for both those who are learning guitar and esxperienced musicians. Grab one. You won't be dissapointed.Dan
For those who don't like the Ovation, pick one of these up and play it for a while. It will change your mind, it adjust your attitude. Well constructed, action is smooth, and you can reach the 24th fret on the e and b strings. Not many acoustic guitars have more than 22 frets total.Pappy
First and foremost, this guitar is gorgeous. I purchased the transparent regal to natural (blue) color scheme, and as great as I thought it looked online, it looked even better in person. It's sort of like a "moonburst" with a pearl color transitioning to a deep blue on the edges – very unique. If you do a google search for this particular guitar, you can find owner-posted pictures that give different visual perspective (and more accurate) from the stock GC picture. Guitar sounded great right out of the box after a quick tuning. Great quality strings, electronics (battery included) worked perfectly, and I didn't need to have anything adjusted. Quality seems high, no flaws were noted after delivery. As for the sound, it seems like there are some mixed reviews on the "super shallow" bowl from Ovation, but I was pleasantly surprised by the range of sound from the guitar. Obviously the highs and the mids are clear and bright, but the lows are much better than I anticipated for the shallow body style. I personally opted for the shallow bowl as I wanted a comfortable guitar with a compact size (yet full size) to play around the house, and I certainly feel like the sound doesn't disappoint. Sure, it doesn't have the bass presence of my full size dreadnought, but it sounds great nonetheless for its size, better than I anticipated. I was strongly considering a mid-depth bowl Ovation while purchasing this particular guitar, but I am happy I went with this particular model. After owning this guitar for a several weeks now, I still wear a big smile every time I pick it up. Would pick this guitar up again in a heartbeat.Ashcon

Reviews:
this is a very nice guitar….great sounding and plays great….and an absolutely beautiful finish(sunburst)Mike
Pros: I have this exact guitar. It play, sounds and looks amazing. Value? I don't know if you can get an overall bang for the buck than this guitar.weldzilla

Reviews:
The guitar is pretty good out of the box, the action height is a bit tall but with some rod adjustment, you can make it fit your needs. The sound is premium and there is no buzz whatsoever.Martin
This guitar exceeded all my expectations! It is an excellent buy. It feels amazing, sounds amazing, and looks fantastic. I would definitely buy again.Javier

I used this in a Country cover band and weekly duo. Long battery life. Strong signal. Damn near bullet proof construction. Not the greatest sounding if it isn't plugged in but that doesn't matter if you're using the guitar to it's fullest capability.basquiat420

Reviews:
This guitar is amazing for under the price. I've been playing for almost 15 years so I always hesitate with instruments in this price range (I know, I'm spoiled) I played its cousin guitar, the thinner-bodied model, at a store but they only had that one. So I went online for the bulkier version. This thing sounds great unplugged, which is saying something for the ovation line, generally having a reputation as good plugged-in guitars. The construction is what one would expect for the price but this thing walks and talks like a much more expensive rig. I'm thoroughly impressed. Do yourself a favor and grab one of these even if you don't have that much experience, I can already see this one standing strong with several of my guitars that are worth tons more.Ricky
I am very impressed by the quality of construction and materials. A tweak of the truss rod, removal of the bridge shims, and a new set of strings, and this is very playable, good sounding, and attractive instrument.Grand Stickist
I played this instrument at a jam session once and thought that i really liked it and the round back was comfortable. So I got one. when it came it did look great but the action was pretty high (even after rmoving the factory shims). Unplugged it just doesn't have a great sound. while it is super comfortable sitting down i found that when you wear it straped on while standing it becomes awkward as it tends to tip over a bit totally unlike a standard shape acoustic. So, i sent it back. For just another 50 you can get an Ibanez artwood series acoustic electric that has much superior sound. that's what i did and I'm very happy with that.h2oboy

Bought My 1717 Legend in 1988, was searching for a replacement for about a year. tried every make and price range. But just did not find the comfort and clear sweet sounds my 1717 produced. Note to reader we are talking about almost 30 year old guitar. Ovation always known for their superior electronics that have always produced the sweetest notes &tones but unfortunately could not find a new 2016 legend anywhere in stock to play before purchase.Heard same old story from every music shop you know Ovations are now made in korea dont expect the same quality. After a year of searching for a replacement to play on stage and a 3 month backorder wait my new triple A spruce top Black Legend arrived. After careful inspection & tuning plugged in to my Beringer ACX accoustic amp and was Blown Away. Ovation didnt miss a beat every bit the quality and sound I hoped for. Well worth the wait. Now considering ordering one in cherry as a spare. Had a friend once say make a good boat paddle because of body material Ha HA!!! I will put ovations up against any make or model for sound quality plugged in or not just be open to a nontraditional wood body guitar and give a Legend a try. You wont be sorry! Plus that thin C shaped neck feels and plays with the ease of a solid body electric. Besides Glenn Campbell played Ovations on stage most of his life. I trust Glenns choice and im glad i did.Woody
It fits me with me okay, thought that the Contour would help me but, I'm going to exchange it most likely. The one thing I loved was the the neck for doing chords, because I have small hands.angelo1176
I've had this guitar for a couple of years now. I have owned a number of good guitars but the ELR plug in makes this guitar stand head and shoulders above the rest! If anyone has never owned one you may be puzzled to find out when you plug in XLR that it doesn't work. They should explain this to the customer. I had to find out the hard way. When you plug in the ELR you also have to have a blank non stereo 1/4" to put into the 1/4" outlet to complete the circuit. I went to my local music store and got a used non stereo 1/4" plug in and drilled a small hole in the end where the cord would normally connect into and took a piece of electrical wire and put it through the hole and twisted it so it would hold the "blank 1/4" jack", then for good measure I then soldered the wire so it can't unwind. Then I wired the blank onto my XLR cord near the end that plugs into the guitar and gave it around 6" wire so it stays hooked onto the XLR end so when I plug in the XLR, the 1/4" is right there and I plug into the 1/4" plug in. This way the two connections are together and I won't put the blank somewhere and forget where it is! This is a great guitar and you can't beat the XLR plug in! I have also gone to this plug in for my fiddle. I use the cord with the 1/4" plug in for my fiddle and the XLR plug in on the other end for the amp. Sure is better than the 1/4" one.I have been playing music for over 60 years now and I highly recommend this guitar and this plug in system.B. Jones
14. Ovation Elite Ce44-Rrb Acoustic-Electric Guitar – Reverse Red Burst, Cahaya Guitar Bag, Ernieball Cable Bundle : Prosoundgear.com
Product Details:
The ovation celebrity elite ce44 combines ovation’s innovative lyrachord body with a solid spruce top for sweet tone with gorgeous looks to match. this acoustic-electric guitar’s lyrachord body is a durable, lightweight alternative to wood backs and has a smooth interior surface that’s designed to enhance the reflections inside your instrument. the mid-depth cutaway body strikes a balance between ovation’s thinnest and thickest body styles. and with the built-in op-4ct electronics, the ovation celebrity elite ce44 is ready to go live. in 1964, charlie kaman set out to revolutionize the acoustic guitar by compiling a group of aerospace engineers to create something guitar players had never seen or heard before. they discovered that a rounded back would enhance the balance and projection of an acoustic guitar. and so, the lyrachord roundback designs found on ovation guitars were born. as charlie himself put it, “in helicopters, the engineers spend all their time trying to figure out how to remove vibration. to build a guitar, you spend your time trying to figure out how to put vibration in.” ovation guitars possess one of the more intriguing acoustic-electric guitar designs you’ll find. this celebrity elite ce44 sports ovation’s mid-depth body style which helps enhance projection and tonal richness while being extremely comfortable to play, even for smaller players. the mid-depth design is excellent at feedback rejection when played plugged-in, but it also has enough air mass to provide plenty of resonance and depth when played acoustic. ovation wrote the book on live acoustic guitar. they were the first company to introduce pickups and preamplifiers in the acoustic guitar, essentially inventing a new instrument. the celebrity elite ce44 is equipped with an op-4ct preamp that makes it a wonderful choice for both studio recording and live performances. in addition, the onboard tuner makes it easy to stay in tune. the op-4ct gives you the tonal control you need onstage. features: acoustic-electric guitar with innovative lyrachord body solid spruce top for full, well-balanced tone mid-depth body rejects feedback and enhances projection onboard op-4ct electronics with built-in tuner so you always sound your best ovangkol fingerboard plays fast and smooth 3-band eq helps you fine-tune your sound for any stage setting

Reviews:
You will be drawn to this guitar because it's both atypical and beautiful in appearance once you are captured by the grape clustered multiple sound holes as was I. It's also relatively inexpensive given its features. I found it an "economical" way to purchase the Ovation look for my collection without having to move up to the Adamas models which are three to four time more expensive. FYI,Ovation Adamas guitars remain Ovation's USA made brand (New Hartford, CT) while all other Ovations are now produced in Korea, as is the Elite, covered here. Fender music corporation, who now owns Ovation, chose this route after acquiring the company. The Elite has no sonic limits when plugged in. The Pro-Op pre-amp system features an "expressor" slider that adds or subtracts harmonic richness to the overall Elite sound. It works in conjunction with a drive dial that controls the level of expression. Along with the three band tone control and an outstanding pick up, the Elite can conjure up some enticing sounds. (I play it through a Fishman Loudbox Performer.) The neck is more akin to what you'd expect with an electric guitar (albeit a bit fatter) with a nut width of 1 5/8 inches. Nice for easier to attain bar chords but less accomdating for finger-pickers. The deep contour bowl is reasonably comfortable but plan on using a strap to hold the Elite in a comfortable position. The action out of the box is reasonable but at least in my Elite's case, could benefit from a set-up. This is not a lightning fast neck but falls within what one might expect for a mid-level acoustic guitar. As alluded to above, acoustic tone is average and in my opinion volume is somewhat subdued when compared with a similarly priced Ovation Legend that uses a standard centered round sound hole. (I own one of those as well, an older USA made model)I would not compare its acoustic tone to a high end Martin or a highend Taylor. The Ovation Elite has a sound of its own that works just fine so long as you are not expecting a rich sounding, all wood, Martin Dreadnaught. Again, the Elite comes to life when plugged into a sweet sounding acoustic amplifier. All things considered, I've no regrets on the purchase and the Elite looks beautiful when not being played, hanging on the wall. Guitar art work, if you will…. Over and OutMarty
The finish was good although there were some rough spots on the neck. The was a small separation of the body between the top and the bottom. However it was easily fixed with some superglue. The keys worked fine, but the strings were really old. Just a slight bow in the neck that was easily adjusted. The guitar sounds great.cuevas533
The guitar was slightly damaged because of poor packaging. But it still sounds great.leftystrat

It's angelic and I adore it. Fingerboard is slick and makes it easier to play than any other 12 string I've tried. Plugs in, built in tuner. What's not to like?ewhi6557
The guitar was beautiful and sounded wonderful. The problem was a loose pickup/pre-amp. I bought it used, so it's hard to say if it was shipped that way or damaged in transit. Nevertheless, Music 123 promptly accepted return and credited my PayPal account. I was so impressed I bought a new version of the same guitar from them.vcc26
