The Mikro bass plays, looks and sounds great. The extra-short scale length does not compromise the traditional bass tone it produces. I have played 6-string guitar for over 40 years, including many professional gigs and teaching. I own over a dozen topnotch guitars. But this is my first bass, and I chose Mikro on the recommendation of a trustworthy friend. I have been doing my own repair work on guitars for decades, and can say the Mikro bass is impressively well made, and arrived decently set up with new, good strings. Fret work, neck, nut, tuning machines, bridge, fingerboard, finish, electronics are all virtually flawless; and the tobacco sunburst color I chose looks really nice, with a "vintage" vibe. I replaced the stock chrome dome knobs (which are nice ones) with Gibson-style knobs so I can see numbers for volume and tone settings. I really like the tone of the Mikro, especially the "Precision" style pickup–the one closer to the neck, from which it's easy to get a classic P-bass tone in conjunction with the tone control, which also works great. Ibanez chose a great capacitor value for the tone knob. The bridge position ("Jazz" style) pickup is just OK–usable, and not bad, but nothing remarkable, and it's especially lackluster when used solo, without any of the P-style pickup dialed in. That is the only part of this bass, other than the knobs, I would consider upgrading in the near future (maybe also the potentiometers, but even those feel smooth and responsive out of the box). The satin-finish neck feels great, and is a breeze to play, even for someone like me, who is coming to the bass from years on guitar. The tuning stability of the Mikro is remarkably great. So the latest versions of the Mikro basses are a phenomenal bargain! I would not hesitate to recommend a Mikro to anyone considering moving from guitar to bass, or to someone with smaller hands. Overall: I've been playing for years, mostly Fenders, Tobias and a heavily modified Decca short scale from the 60s. This is my first Ibanez bass and I am blown away! I chose the brown burst finish, and took a chance on the "blemished" version. Been looking at it all day and I can't find any imperfection anywhere. Definitely wanted short scale, light weight and a fast neck, this one has all 3 and then some. Set up out of the box was close, very close, with only a slight fret buzz on the E string. A very small adjustment at the saddle took care of it. The stock pickups sound good, the tone knob has useful range, everything sounds quite good through everything I've played it through so far (Fender, Orange, antique Earth head, etc.). An utterly great bass overall. It's perfect for someone with a low budget, or someone who's new to learning bass. Also good for children or people with small hands since it's a short-scale. This was my first bass and I still play it a lot. Not only is it cheap, but it has a really good tone, a nice feel to it, and a beautiful orange finish (if that is the finish you chose). The only bad thing I have to say about this is that it got some fret buzz to it but in all honesty, it's not that bad. I love Ibanez basses, I own several and this one is absolutly great.Logan

Bought as a "keep in the car to practice on lunch" bass, so I didn't need this thing to be all that great. But for this price, I couldn't believe how bad it was. Worst part is it is made of plastic. All the pictures show some nice wood grain in the fingerboard, but thats a lie. It was all gloss covered over a plastic neck and fretboard. Very awkward to play. Influences bad technique. Obviously doesn't make any notes when played, but instead you get a very obnoxious "TINK" every time to attempt to fret a note. Just very poorly designed. The idea was Interesting, and there is definitely a market for this type of thing, but not at this price point. Overall, this is a novelty item. This is always out of tune! That is, when I tune the open string, the second fret is off key, and so on down the neck. Hurts your ears to play. And it is way too fat – I can't get my small hands around it comfortably – and at the 5th fret, I can't get my hand around it at all. Sorry I purchased this.Grace

I've had this guitar for about 10 months, and it's great! It's everything you'd come to expect from the ESP LTD line. But the big question is, "How's that bridge?" My motivation for buying this specific guitar was my unending frustration with the floating tremolo on my previous guitar. We started jumping back and forth between standard and dropped D in our set, and making that work with a FR was a nightmare. With that, I had set out on finding a non-FR or fixed bridge, since I rarely used the trem' anyway. I had always wanted an ESP and the idea of each saddle being independent of one another was compelling. It can take a little to get used to, though. Tuning is done at the bridge, and the tension on the strings is adjusted by the tuning pegs. Once the string has the right amount of tension, that saddle will be "activated" in what is referred to as "zone 2". Here, the springs will counter any additional tension applied to that string up to a given point. This means that you cannot do bends or change the pitch in any real or easy way. Some people may like this, but it feels very odd, and the people at Evertune know that most people don't play like this. So, to get the best of both worlds, you will need to apply enough tension on the saddle to bring it right up to the edge of zone 2 by turning the tuning pegs. What I found to be helpful here is to not just listen for the note to change, but to pull on the string and visually inspect movement in the saddle. Once this is set, it feels like a normal guitar with just a tad more tension on the strings. The guitar will come with 10-gauge strings. I gave that a shot for a while. Only recently did I switch them out for some 9s. I think it feels a lot better with a lighter gauge string, especially considering that tad bit of tension. A tip I learned regarding Dropped D was to tune the guitar down by default. Then tune up the low E, which puts that saddle into "zone 3". This is far easier than the reverse and stiJohn Q. I ordered this Bass as I wanted a more modern fretless than my Jazz and decided on a 5. I was first impressed by the exotic finish of these Basses but skeptical on quality at this price. I needn't have worried. I honestly do not know how ESP maintain this kind of fantastic quality/price. Out of the box the maple cap looks great if you like a natural wood finish. I could not find a single cosmetic flaw. The Bass is slightly neck-heavy due to the light weight body but it sits well on a strap. The hardware seems solid enough and looks cool. My Bass was well set-up but other reviews say the contrary. The strings are D'addario Rounds as listed so you may want to change these out for flats if you wish to avoid scratches on the roasted Jatoba fingerboard (they used to be Rosewood). The active threeband eq plus passive pan pot give a lot of tone scope. The only negative point to my ears is that I would like a touch more sustain but all in all consider these Basses before going for a Rockbass.
I have been playing guitar for six years and am a massive fan of hot humbuckers and EMGs. This LTD does not disappoint and is easily my best guitar (next to my Solar s1.6pb27, which also sports an EverTune bridge). The LTD MH1000's body looks great, neck feels great, frets are smooth and it stays in tune extraordinarily well with the EverTune bridge. It is extremely easy to set this guitar up yourself due to the bridge; I didn't have to take it to a shop before I started recording with it. Excellent value.

I am a full grown guitar/bass player over 25 years. I bought this in hopes of an affordable little Bass to have for studio use and was pleasantly surprised. While this would be a great starter guitar for smaller hands, I have a blast playing it. This is not a toy by any means, it is very well constructed, frets are nice and level, neck is smooth and very easy to play, tuners stay in tune and the volume and tone pots are just fine. With a new set of GHS short scale flat wound strings and a quick truss rod and saddle adjustment this is my go to Bass. Fits in a standard size guitar case and is light weight and easy on the shoulder when strapped on. Beginner to experienced player, this is a real instrument at a great price.jamsstudio
Overall: I bought this without playing it, but was very pleased right out of the box. My fingers were black after a few minutes of playing due to the dirty strings, but that didn't dampen my opinion by any means (but good idea to purchase a new set of strings along with the bass). Bought the Walnut Finish (looks more expensive) for use with my SC-300 Boss Looper (also purchased from zZounds). It sounds great! I'm not onstage playing head banger metal, so don't need that rumbling low end anyway. But the pickup configuration def gives you a lot of low end. Even though I've been playing guitar and bass for over 30 years, I would use this bass onstage, AND more importantly, if you are introducing anyone to playing bass – this will be a much easier learning bass due to the size. It still feels like a 'bass' and it's not tiny or anything, but it doesn't feel clunky like a bigger bass does. I'm looking forward to using this for a long while, and assuming it holds up over the next few months I'll likely grab another one just to have a backup. Don't hesitate if you need for a recording bass, or onstage. And def great for a beginner to keep them from losing interest due to most basses being too large for them.Jason
Overall: I bought this bass for my little sister for her golden birthday. She's always wanted to play a bass guitar, though there aren't many short scale models that suited her, especially considering she is a beginner. I was torn between a Squier and this Ibanez, but given I've had great experience with Ibanez (I personally own a modified RG8), I decided to get this little guy and man I don't regret it. Right out of the box I tuned it, and it honestly felt great. She can't tell because she's new to stringed instruments, but when I felt this thing, it felt really well crafted, and the intonation/action on this thing was well done. I played it a bit and I kind of want one now. I didn't think bass could be so fun. But the main point was that she loves it, and to anyone out there that's on the fence, I say go for it. Mettendolo un po' alla prova direi che regge bene il mio modo di suonare spesso (per non dire violento) ho una sensazione migliore di vibrazione anche addosso, probabilmente data dal corpo più snello e leggero. While this is not a high end instrument, it's highly playable, has good intonation, is good sounding, has a great feel and is fun to look at. It's a fantastic bang for buck. It wouldn't become my first choice for recording or playing out, but, it would make an excellent backup bass and a wonderful starter bass. I wish my first couple of basses were as good when I started learning. This may actually be comparable to a Squire. I'm sure this was mass produced, but, it really doesn't feel cheap. First instrument I've ever purchased online. Second fretless, and has D'Addario flats, which are a perfect fit for this. I wanted something fretless, but also could come close to emulating a double bass, which for my purposes it does very well. I've been going through an online bass course and decided to switch from a fretted to this fretless to kill two birds with one stone. Learn the content of the course and work on intonation with a fretless bass. Pre-covid brought this to a group class band I was in. Everyone liked the tone and sound of this bass. Since I've been using it very often with the course and shedding, I've noticed a slight buzzing at the nut on open strings. It could be the strings were a little undersized and have worn the groove in the nut a bit, but this sound is only heard at the bass. Doesn't go out over the amp, so I don't consider it a concern. I purchased this some time back and just noticed I hadn't written a review. Probably better since I've been using it more. This bass has become a go-to bass for me.Alan D.
Very, very happy with it. It was smaller and lighter than I was expecting, though the neck itself was quite long which is good. I have now got used to the size and weight though. I tried first of all to get an upright bass sound, and once you adjust how you actually play to imitate an upright it is very appealing how close it gets in sound. That is the main reason I bought it, but then found the sound of the other pickups is so good that I can't stop playing with those too. It is a very responsive and articulate instrument, I really am very pleased with it and would thoroughly recommend it. I have 2 other basses (Ibanez fretted Talman and a fretless by Harley Benton with roundwound strings) and this is in a totally different league to them. It really is a very 'musical' instrument. I've always wanted an electric bass that sounded like an upright, and this bass gets very close. This bass was designed from the drawing board as a fretless, and Ibanez has succeeded in creating a fretless bass guitar that sounds very close to the sound of an upright bass. It is also very versatile. Using only the piezo pickups in the bridge, this bass sounds very much like an upright. Use both magnetic pickups, and it sounds something like a 60s Jazz bass. The neck pickup soloed sounds reasonably close to a Precision bass. My favorite setting is: Piezos on full with the neck pickup at about 3, just to give a little more bottom; play over the neck at the 20th to 24th fret, and you get an upright tone. The flat wound strings that come standard were also a very good choice in adding to the upright-like tone. This bass is also very light, and the neck is a pleasure to play. Ibanez has definitely hit a home run with this bass. If you're looking for a bass guitar that can give you an upright tone, please, do not overlook this one.Mike From Queens,NY

This bass arrived yesterday. I was blown away with the good looks and finish. It is so comfortable to hold and is much lighter than my regular American made P bass. It needed NO setup! Everything was perfect right out of the box. The frets are smooth – even the pickup height was correct! The pickups are good and punchy. Even the strings sound and feel good. THIS IS AN AMAZING BASS AT ANY PRICE. My American P bass is now in the closet.
I got the Squier Mini P-bass in Dakota Red, it looks great, no finish issues. I'm a guitar player and I love the size, it's a blast to play, the scale length isn't too far from a guitar, it sounds pretty good and is comfortable to sit with. The pickup is fair, it would definitely make a great bass for a younger player or a small adult that is uncomfortable with a full size bass… and for someone like me that just wants to play around on it for fun and do some some basslines on home demo recordings it is sweet. With a couple of upgrades it could be a mini monster.Mark
I’d read reviews of how good this bass is and had to check it out for myself! I’m starting uni soon so wanted a cheap small bass to take with me. Fit and finish is very good as was the setup. Just had to slightly tweak the intonation. It’s really quick and easy to play and actually sounds very precision like 👍🏼 The G string can have a slight ‘sizzle’ to it but nothing too untoward. The tuners aren’t the best but seem to hold tune ok. I did replace the strap buttons as they are minuscule and my strap came off them too easily. Overall a fun and great sounding addition to anyone’s collection.Nic S.

This is a bit of interesting one! 1971 p bass neck that has been refretted and had a new rosewood fingerboard put on as well. done by a good luthier in toronto. truss rod works perfect and it is as straight as an arrow. body was finished by mjt lake placid blue. lollar p bass pickup / cts potsstrung with flats. bridge/knobs came from mjt it s light weight and sounds and plays awesome. i ve toured with it a bunch with no issues. just solid and reliable. ask me any questions!

Ive owned, sold, traded, and purchased several fretless (and fretted) basses. At the time I purchased this (from Musicians Friend) I did not currently have a fretless bass. Now that I've owned and played this Tony Franklin model for several months I can honestly say its easily the finest fretless you can buy for well under $2K. If money weren't a concern, I would have undoubtably re-purchased a Pedulla MVP Buzz bass (about the sickest fretless bass ever made). I had no idea who Tony Franklin was when I bought this, but I knew I wanted a quality fretless with an ebony fretboard, no fret lines, and classic-to-professional workmanship. Before buyin this one I also looked at and played a Godin fretless (very nice), and had just traded in a Carvin LB-50 fretless (not what I needed it to be). Between the Carvin, the Godin, and this Fender Custom shop fretless,..the Fender was easily the better purchase, the better bass,..and the sweetest looking. As mentioned in reviews above, it is neck heavy,..but thats easily solved by shortening you strap (just get used to playing it higher on your body than you other bass,..its gonna be different than your main axe and you should expect that of any bass,..they are all different). The case it came with is exceptional for a stock case,..and the sunburst finish is just outstanding! I put a set of medium gauge DR Sunbeams on this, and it sounds epic. Sure, the nickel strings make minute marks on the finger board, but so what,..they leave no serious impact thats detrimental,…(and if you actually wear into the neck that badly then you're playing like a monster and its time to have your bass worked on,..consider that a badge of honor 🙂 Its the sweetest fretless for the money. The next step up is a boutique custom fretless. If you can't spend more than 2K on a fretless,..get this one. If you can afford more,..def go with a Pedulla Buzz Bass,..(Bar-none the finest fretless ever made,..but this Fender Custom is an excellent, even supreme, second choice to that).jave brown

The pickups sound great, the action was spot on out of the box. MWAH for days. The case is great both made in USA. I Wasn't sure about he gloss neck, but I play it just fine. First of all let me say that I'm 45 years old. I've been playing various musical instruments for almost my entire life. I consider myself both very knowledgeable and savvy when it comes to gear. I'm extremely picky. Especially with tone and build quality. I'm not a gear snob by any means. I just prefer not to choose low budget gear. I believe quality is still out there and you get what you pay for. I've owned / own many top brands including Gibson, PRS, Fender Custom Shop, Warwick (Germany), Dingwall, Kiesel, etc. You get the picture right? The build quality of this instrument is right up there with any of those if not better. Tone wise this thing is a monster! Fretless Monster right? The DiMarzio Jazz pickup has a really sweet sound just as it should. It has a 3-way selector switch that allows you to play the pickups in three configurations. Jazz, J + P Bass, and just P Bass. All three sound simply amazing but the middle position is the real sweet spot for this bass. The neck is a dream and fits and feels terrific in the hands. Fit and finish all looked great and there were zero cosmetic blemishes. I got the 3-color sunburst and picked out the actual serial I wanted. It's a beautiful bass and so much fun to play. The ebony fingerboard was even completely uniform with no streaking which I happen to personally like. It has a D-tuner on the E string which is nice. If you're on the fence about trying a fretless for the first time like I was please don't be. Once you have this bass in your hands you will feel at home with it just as I did. Almost like an old friend has come home. It will be a new, creative, tool, in your palette. The possibilities are endless and you will have a new and exciting way of truly expressing yourself. You do have side marker dots so you will not be totally in the dark. I'm a big fan of Blue Murder and Tony Franklin. Check out his YouTube videos some time. He truly is a Monster of the Fretless Bass. I started taking his True Fire course after buying this bass and it has helped me make the transition to fretless more easy. It's a great course and I have learned a lot from the master. You definitely will not be disappointed in this bass. At the price point it's a steal in my opinion. This is a must have for any bassist to have in their collection. Go fretless!

5 string bass in burley wood. Fit and finish first class. Unbelievably light. Fantastic value for money. Mine played very badly out of the box, with the neck seemingly overdone on the truss rod. Relaxed that a turn, set intonation and saddles and it's pretty good now imo. Think it would benefit from having some frets filed a bit. But all in all it's excellent for the money. I could spend 3-4 times as much for the next up cheap 5 string, but I doubt it would play better and I bet it would be significantly heavier.
My second Glarry bass. the first purchase was a 4 string fretless – flawless instrument. Obviously I was happy with it – I bought another instrument. This 5 string arrived today. I spent a brief time setting up the action, as you would need to do with any new instrument. It was not at all necessary to have a shop do it, as they send the tools you need included with the instrument and it is great for a player to be able to do this themselves- it will make you a more knowledgable player and take additional pride in ownership. But the real reason for leaving this review is to convey just how great the quality is. My wife's initial reaction: "that is beautiful – a work of art!", and she is so correct. Having owned many basses and played for 35+ years, this is as good as any bass I have had. You will see many other reviews state the same thing. The action, the finish, the sound – there is nothing to complain about, even if you took the affordable price out of consideration. Buy one of these now before they figure out they could charge 2-3x as much and I would still recommend buying even at those prices. I am installing a thumb rest on it and using this the next weekend for a songwriter showcase. Can't wait to see what compliments I get on it. Glarry, you guys do a great job and my hat is off to you.
There's nothing really spectacular about this bass, except for possibly the bang for your buck. What you get is a fairly well made solid instrument that does the job without any unnecessary frills! Mine arrived well packaged and in good condition. There are a couple of minor finish blends, but they aren't noticeable if you're more than a foot away. The set up was nearly spot-on, only a few minor adjustments were required. The neck and fretwork were well done. Frets are smooth with no sharp ends. The fretboard is dry, but that is somewhat expected, and not a big deal. I did send the back of the neck with 1000 grit paper so it is now silky smooth and plays great. The pickups sound very good, though the volume puts taper rather abruptly. Overall, this is a good sounding, very playable bass! I am a happy Glarry customer once again!
