I have been playing for 36 years and own many nice high end guitars. I live in Switzerland and travel back to California usually twice a year to see friends and family. It's getting more strict traveling with a guitar and the airlines are starting to make you check in guitars. No longer allowed to carry on my instrument and not trusting airlines with my irreplaceable babies I decided to buy a cheap guitar for when I'm in America and bought one at guitar center. I already have a couple of amplifiers and microphones here so I can tell u this thing sounds like a much more expensive guitar either plugged in or acoustically. Maybe I got lucky but the model I bought has great action and not a single fret buzzes. This is a really nice sounding guitar and easy to play. The neck is on the fat side but the action is really low so it's great for my small hands. It's also beautiful. My only problem is I'm liking it so much that I'm tempted to take it back to Switzerland as my camping guitar now. Best guitar I played for the price tag by far. We will see how it holds up over time but I easily recommend it to others.Ha ha
I am a beginner so I purchased a guitar that looks awesome, sounded good to my untrained ear and was inexpensive. But I have some issues with it. First, every peg as broken and had to be punched out and replaced which was multiple trips back to the store which isn't close for me. It is never in tune. I tune it and play a few chords and then retune it. The string adjusters (not sure if that their technical term) are not snug and move around a bit, I notice this real bad when replacing strings. I get a lot of buzzing, my instructor does when he plays it. All that and my biggest problem is the graphic on mine is nothing close to the graphic see in pictures. My graphic is a grainy, obvious graphic and doesn't have any of the cool swirls as seen in the pictures. I like the feel and the glossy texture. Now that I have taken a few lessons I really would like to return this guitar.Big B
I bought this guitar as a novice, and not having a well developed ear, I thought it was pretty good. As my ear developed over the years, I've come to the conclusion that this guitar is mediocre. The way the bass is projected is very weak, and the highs are way too dominant. Along with that, it just doesn't have the depth many high quality guitars, and even some beginner guitars, such as the Yamaha F335 have. I'd recommend buying this guitar for three criteria: for beginners, for looks, and for the acoustic-electric feature. The intonation does get a little off too, especially when getting to the higher frets. The neck however earned this guitar a star though, because it fits me well, and that's my preference. I've had other people say opposite about the neck of this guitar, so the neck is really up to you to decide if you like it or not. All in all, I've had many hours of fun with this guitar, but don't expect to have a life changing guitar in your hands.The Archive Master

If you want a travel that fits in overhead compartment on planes, this is it. For the price of it being compact and preamp sound, you can't beat it. Stays in tune, no sharp edges on frets, feels good, finish is good, very well constructed guitar. Light weight and handles well. This will be your best buy for a travel guitar. Comes with preamp while others don't. Well constructed, stays in tune, nice wood and finish, no sharp edges on frets. I have several other Luna instruments, all of which I really like; but I have always thought that the Henna Sahara beautiful. … though the last thing I need is another guitar (have a mess of Godin – Seagull & Simon and Patrick acoustics too). This was on crazy sale here on Musicians Friend ( I think it has been discontinued by Luna), so I just bit the bullet and hit purchase. Knowing the hubby was going to have a fit when another guitar arrived at the house. Totally worth it. The necks of Luna acoustics are so ridiculously comfortable. Seriously I am sure they would be good for guys, but if you are a lady, or have a lady who you want to get a guitar for, THIS IS it. The neck is the best for people with smaller hands. (Like normal lady hands!) It was perfectly set up out of the box. Love the D'addario EXP 11 strings it comes with. Low action, beautiful sound, and absolutely STUNNING to look at. Purchased after seeing online and checking a few reviews myself . The headstock was not in turquoise like the picture , Otherwise the guitar was far more beautiful than I expected . I thought the design was more painted on , no it’s a deep awesome edging !!! I changed the strings right away, and had to set the truss rod ( action was wayyyyyyyy to high) after better strings and the truss …….I can’t put this thing down . It’s amazing , sounds great, plays great, plays everything . Highly highly recommend itBkl
I read a bunch of reviews that scared me and made me weary about my order, but I received a order confirmation and shipping email fairly quickly. This guitar was out of stock and back ordered everywhere including the Luna website at the time. GuitarCenter's website said it would take extra long as a special order. I got this strictly to have something convenient and small to play. I was not expecting very much. I am not a great guitarist but I am an estate liquidator for many years and have seen and played a lot of guitars. This blows away just about anything you could ever get in this price range. Action is great, (I took the bridge down a hair myself, but didnt need to) It stays in tune, has great intonation throughout the neck and sounds pretty bright with great low end for such a small guitar. This is a parlor size guitar. In other words, it is smaller than a concert grand. This makes it a great beginning guitar for a teen, or a for a travel size practice guitar in general for anyone. This particular guitar was never set up, thus the nut is very high, and thus, so is the action. Any guitar straight out of the box needs to be taken to a luthier and properly set up. The reason the nut (and sometimes the bridge) are so high is because it is easier to cut them down than build them up or replace them. So, all guitar companies tend to do this as a matter of course. Some people want the higher action; like, slide players. But if you are strictly finger style, then best to have the nut, and if needed, the bridge taken down to lower the action and make it easier on the fingers. Another trick to help the fingers is to lower the tuning by 1/2 to 1 whole step. This will slacken the strings and they won't bite as much. This particular model of Luna guitar is one from their beautiful "Flora" collection. If nothing else, it looks great on the wall!vannerhorses

I'm probably one if the few who bought a luna guitar in spite of how it looked. though i am a girl i didn't want a "girly" guitar, but when i was trying guitars in the store, i kept gravitating back to this one. it was the only one in my price range that "felt right" in my hands, was the best amount of action for me, and the one i purchased had no buzzing. HOWEVER i bought the display guitar, because the new, untouched one they brought out for me DID have buzzing on the top two strings, so maybe i just got lucky with this one. the other more expensive lunas i tried didn't sound great to me, but this one sounded better and warmer to me than any other guitar in my price range, and to my untrained ear (i've been playing 10 years, but would still consider myself a beginner), i myself couldn't hear much of a difference between a super expensive taylor and this guitar. i could feel and hear the difference between it and other guitars in it's price range however. and again, it just "felt right" in my hands. BUT AGAIN, a different Luna Gypsy Spalt didn't sound as good as the one I bought due to the buzzing (and maybe the newer untouched strings??) and buzzing can be fixed…i think… lol. I used to own a taylor GS mini, and i didn't sound great on that, but i do like how i sound on this guitar and it's way easier to finger pick than my gs mini was. IMO this does have a warm sound. is not loud, and sounded just fine when hooked up to the amp. i wouldn't buy a luna (or any other guitar) without first playing it, as it will always be hit or miss, and even the best guitars are a matter of personal preference. i love luna's chunkier neck, and the body fit my own body well. so even though it has a graphic design on the front (which may be pretty but still "fake" none the less) i purchased this as the one i tried felt and sounded great. just try before you buy!GlitterGypsy
I gave a review earlier on the performance of this guitar. I would like to add this review as a follow-up. The electronics in this guitar are sensitive to cable issues. The guitar was making hiss and krackle above half volume, tried 2 different cables (that I have been using on-stage) the cables are silent, plugged to my basses, but hiss here. I pulled a never used cable and the hiss is gone…..other cables still silent with bass. The sound of the electronics is clean and punchy. Presence adds brightness…even when run thru a bass amp. Had to get within 3 feet of the speaker at full volume for feedback (running on a 350 watt amp)without sound hole cover…..absolutely stage worthy. I will keep good cables for this guitar and it will prove to be a great buy…..5 stars.

I bought this guitar “hoping” it was going to be my main guitar for gigging out. After the first gig with it playing 4 hours….it failed the test. Wouldn’t stay in tune……keys very stiff….overall plugged in sound mediocre at best. Next day changed the strings….plugged it up to get the feeling of the new strings….electronics breaking in and out…tuner stopped working….I boxed it up and sent It back and bought an Epiphone EJ 200. For a $100 more the Epi Jumbo is almost a flawless guitar not close to flea market junk like the Luna. Had high hopes for the Luna because it is such a looker…..was very disappointed. Will not buy another Luna…but I will buy another Epiphone
I don't often write reviews but I saw that this guitar didn't have any and felt obligated to. I've owned this guitar for about 6 months now and it's pretty much the only acoustic I pick up anymore. I have about a dozen acoustic guitars of varying prices, a couple twice the price of the Luna, and it is by far my favorite of the bunch to play and my first jumbo. Definitely a good strummer, has nice sharp highs and good bass tones too. Pretty even sound distribution and it's nice and full. Projects nice and is plenty loud for a living room or small venue. The finish looks even better in person and it's a very sturdy well built instrument. I wish I would have found it earlier.Eli
This guitar plays and sounds great…But the frets. Oh my. I am not sure if I got one that just didn't get inspected well bit on both sides of the neck the frets all the way up and down feel like fish hook barbs and have torn my fingers all up. Contacted Dean/Luna at my shipping cost have issued an RMA. I will update if the replacement is the same. I sure hope not because I really like everything else about this guitar.Ryan

I've been playing guitar for 12 years and this is definitely the most rich, beautiful sounding guitar I've played in a long time. Not to mention it's equally as beautiful on the outside, I mean look at it. I was hesitant to buy it because it only had a few reviews on multiple different sights and about 1/3 of those were negative, but I have no regrets. If you're thinking about buying this, just do it! I have several other Luna instruments, all of which I really like; but I have always thought that the Henna Sahara beautiful. … though the last thing I need is another guitar (have a mess of Godin – Seagull & Simon and Patrick acoustics too). This was on crazy sale here on Musicians Friend ( I think it has been discontinued by Luna), so I just bit the bullet and hit purchase. Knowing the hubby was going to have a fit when another guitar arrived at the house. Totally worth it. The necks of Luna acoustics are so ridiculously comfortable. Seriously I am sure they would be good for guys, but if you are a lady, or have a lady who you want to get a guitar for, THIS IS it. The neck is the best for people with smaller hands. Purchased after seeing online and checking a few reviews myself . The headstock was not in turquoise like the picture , Otherwise the guitar was far more beautiful than I expected . I thought the design was more painted on , no it’s a deep awesome edging !!! I changed the strings right away, and had to set the truss rod ( action was wayyyyyyyy to high) after better strings and the truss …….I can’t put this thing down . I read a bunch of reviews that scared me and made me weary about my order, but I received a order confirmation and shipping email fairly quickly. This guitar was out of stock and back ordered everywhere including the Luna website at the time. GuitarCenter's website said it would take extra long as a special order. I walked into GC's humidor looking for an acoustic/electric guitar. I played a couple of Fender A/Es, a Martin, and a Taylor, then picked up this Luna that I had seen online. It never struck me as interesting or special in the pics. But, it stood out amongst the others in person. I still wasn't sold, so I picked it up and realized just how beautiful the color and simplicity of the style was. Unique. Then, I played the thing. I made the sales dude pick up other guitars and strum chords, which I had to teach him first, so I could compare the sound quality. I was floored! For the price, I don't think you can buy a better sounding guitar… I know Lunas aren't for everyone, but they're onto something, both stylistically and tonally. Don't knock it till you try it!Drew

I have been playing for 36 years and own many nice high end guitars. I live in Switzerland and travel back to California usually twice a year to see friends and family. It's getting more strict traveling with a guitar and the airlines are starting to make you check in guitars. No longer allowed to carry on my instrument and not trusting airlines with my irreplaceable babies I decided to buy a cheap guitar for when I'm in America and bought one at guitar center. I already have a couple of amplifiers and microphones here so I can tell u this thing sounds like a much more expensive guitar either plugged in or acoustically. Maybe I got lucky but the model I bought has great action and not a single fret buzzes. This is a really nice sounding guitar and easy to play. The neck is on the fat side but the action is really low so it's great for my small hands. It's also beautiful. My only problem is I'm liking it so much that I'm tempted to take it back to Switzerland as my camping guitar now. Best guitar I played for the price tag by far. We will see how it holds up over time but I easily recommend it to others.Ha ha
I am a beginner so I purchased a guitar that looks awesome, sounded good to my untrained ear and was inexpensive. But I have some issues with it. First, every peg as broken and had to be punched out and replaced which was multiple trips back to the store which isn't close for me. It is never in tune. I tune it and play a few chords and then retune it. The string adjusters (not sure if that their technical term) are not snug and move around a bit, I notice this real bad when replacing strings. I get a lot of buzzing, my instructor does when he plays it. All that and my biggest problem is the graphic on mine is nothing close to the graphic see in pictures. My graphic is a grainy, obvious graphic and doesn't have any of the cool swirls as seen in the pictures. I like the feel and the glossy texture. Now that I have taken a few lessons I really would like to return this guitar.Big B
I bought this guitar as a novice, and not having a well developed ear, I thought it was pretty good. As my ear developed over the years, I've come to the conclusion that this guitar is mediocre. The way the bass is projected is very weak, and the highs are way too dominant. Along with that, it just doesn't have the depth many high quality guitars, and even some beginner guitars, such as the Yamaha F335 have. I'd recommend buying this guitar for three criteria: for beginners, for looks, and for the acoustic-electric feature. The intonation does get a little off too, especially when getting to the higher frets. The neck however earned this guitar a star though, because it fits me well, and that's my preference. I've had other people say opposite about the neck of this guitar, so the neck is really up to you to decide if you like it or not. All in all, I've had many hours of fun with this guitar, but don't expect to have a life changing guitar in your hands.The Archive Master

I've been a professional musician since I was 20 years old. Traveled all around Europe, doing 8 shows a week in the late 60's. Played guitar and sang, and then when I moved to Cincinnati, I played, my band performed as the front band for several country groups, the Carpenters, and Seals & Crofts. Now at 73, a lot of water has flowed beneath my bridges, but I'm wanting to play for myself and friends, jam a bit with other musicians. And while I've had several really nice guitars (Hagstrom Viking, Takamini 12-string, and a couple of nice basses. Over the years, my main instrument was drums, but I don't have room now for a set of those. I just wanted to play guitar without paying too much for it. So, my search began. I already had a Luna Tatoo Ukelele and loved it – always in tune, great tone, great workmanship, and sounded as good accoustically as electrically. Looking at Luna's guitars, I was impressed with the workmanship. There are some beautifully decorated A/E ones, but were too high-priced for me. Then I saw the dreadnought Tattoo model and thought it would be nice to have a matching guitar/uke pair. And the price was surprisingly very affordable. The price made me hesitate – you never know how well it play or hold up. However, when it came, I was delighted!!! It was beautiful, great workmanship (even though it's made in China), awesome tone that's even from treble to bass. The onboard tuner is highly accurate. The size is perfect for me as a little old grandma. The neck was straight as an arrow and the intonation was spot on. I couldn't be happier! Luna Guitars says this is an entry-level guitar. I suppose they're right. But the frets are filed properly, it holds its tune, the intonation is fine. It doesn't have Fishman electronics, but the onboard tuner works. I've owned many "entry-level" instruments that were nowhere as good. This is fine for open mics, small combos, folk music, things like that. And it looks nice!Nico T

This is a parlor size guitar. In other words, it is smaller than a concert grand. This makes it a great beginning guitar for a teen, or a for a travel size practice guitar in general for anyone. This particular guitar was never set up, thus the nut is very high, and thus, so is the action. Any guitar straight out of the box needs to be taken to a luthier and properly set up. The reason the nut (and sometimes the bridge) are so high is because it is easier to cut them down than build them up or replace them. So, all guitar companies tend to do this as a matter of course. Some people want the higher action; like, slide players. But if you are strictly finger style, then best to have the nut, and if needed, the bridge taken down to lower the action and make it easier on the fingers. Another trick to help the fingers is to lower the tuning by 1/2 to 1 whole step. This will slacken the strings and they won't bite as much. I just got this uke in yesterday and I cannot stop playing it. I wasn't expecting it to come with a gig bag so that was a plus. I had to tune it (duh) when i got it and it has remained in perfect tuning since. I was slightly worried about how it would sound plugged up but it's honestly pretty gorgeous. The preamp could have been a little more elaborate, but I can't complain too much. Once I had added some mids to the mix it was sounding professional. The only flaw to this instrument, or my instrument, was the head stock. The tuners have glue imprinted everywhere. Kind of sloppy looking but the tuners work great. Lastly, the body of this uke is very stern and sexy looking. I could probably slam this thing against a wall and it not break. After reading numerous blogs and reviews, I was unsure whether I should buy a Luna. It's hard to tell from words alone whether an instrument is well designed and constructed out of quality materials. I was thinking of a Kala or perhaps a Pono, but then I saw and heard the Luna as they're around the same price range for equivalent instruments. The Koa wood that was chosen projected the joy and definition of the songs without dominating. I chose this Luna because it has a sound that makes people happy and want to sing when I play. The "All Koa" body produces the authentic ukulele sound without being loud or obnoxious. The sound of this concert ukulele is mellow (no obnoxious brashness or egregious harmonics) and it's very similar to the sound of the Pono Acacia Tenor despite its smaller size. The inlaid abalone for the fret markers and sound hole ring catch the firelight, but they're not why I like this ukulele so much. When I'm playing, I'm hearing and feeling the music, not looking at the instrument. I've enjoyed playing acoustic style guitar finger picking style with chords for over a decade, currently on a high-end Seagull Artist folk style guitar. When I recently retired and dusted off my bucket list, I had to come to the realization that for many entries I would no longer be able to physically complete them, but you are never too old to learn how to play an instrument and on the upside we don't have to have the physique of a twenty something either. Learning to play the ukulele has been a dream of mine since I was a child. After extensive research of watching unboxing, playing, and expert recommendations on You Tube, I had narrowed my choices down to three ukuleles. When I searched "where to buy" on line for this uke, AMS was the store that came up first and with their no interest payment plan, no credit check, and price match policy, I was sold. None of the pictures online do this little uke any justice, beautiful warm Koa, stunning abalone inlay around the sound hole and 5 abalone inlaid waves in progressive stages depicting the influence of the moon. The action is nice and low which is a plus for arthritis sufferers like myself. I have not purchased an amp yet so I cannot speak to the sound using the onboard electronics, there are several Reviews on YouTube that do, but this little uke has a big voice even without them. Which I found surprising given that the body is only 2 1/2" deep, so if you are shaped like me, a Volkswagen with all my "junk in the trunk" in the front coupled with T-Rex arms, makes this is a comfortable instrument to learn. The gig bag is a pretty standard lightly padded gig bag, but on the plus side, the bag has a nice large zippered pocket on the front and the zipper on the bag itself unzips all the way around the bottom edge, so no fighting to take the uke in or out of the bag.Kaneki McNick

It's a beautiful guitar that has a wonderful, rich tone. Right out of the box, it required no setup, just tuning. Love the Fishman electronics as well. It sounds great in any setting. I've been playing guitar for 12 years and this is definitely the most rich, beautiful sounding guitar I've played in a long time. Not to mention it's equally as beautiful on the outside, I mean look at it. I was hesitant to buy it because it only had a few reviews on multiple different sights and about 1/3 of those were negative, but I have no regrets. If you're thinking about buying this, just do it! All solid wood construction got my attention, and this Luna delivered the sounds of a premium guitar. Only downside is its thin satin finish, so i decided to add an original martin OM pickguard both for protection and aesthetics. I intended to use this for fingerstyle but its a great strummer as well. Very happy with this purchase.79telecaster

I purchased the Luna Aurora Borealis for my grand daughter to learn guitar. She likes the blue sparkle and it is the right size for her small 8 year old hands. I play folk, rock and blues about two hours a day. I found this guitar very hard to play. The strings were incredibly high, stiff as barbed wire and the intonation was not close. I was able to lower the action, installed lighter gauge strings and adjust the intonation to a passable level. My grand daughter is excited about the guitar, loves the way it looks and if she will stick with it after the changes, I will judge this little starter guitar to have served its purpose.Brian
I bought this guitar for my 5 year old and I have been playing for awhile and she wanted to learn. I chose the 3/4 size because obviously she is 5 and I really thought that she could grow into this and it would be fun. That however is not the case. Now shame on me for not taking her and letting her pick I understand that but she saw the blue sparkles and is daddy's little girl so I caved. This guitar is oddly heavy and seems bigger than a 3/4. The sound isn't what I thought it would be and needs constant tuning. Not a little tuning a lot of tuning. Bottom line is if you're looking for a starter guitar I would highly suggest avoiding this at all cost. It seems like you pay for the paint job rather than a nice easy guitar for a child. Go with the Yamaha Jr or something along those lines.AndrewAlan
I bought this because my woman liked the color. I though I could get her to play it. My expectations on tone and volume were fairly low but it's a bit worse even than I expected. The strings arrived sounding dead and the unit seems even more cheaply made than it looks in the pix.Just Another Person
