This is a great short scale bass. It is a quality instrument. The finish is excellent. Playability straight out of the box was very good. Really good guitar for nirvana type music. Only issue is that you need to set it up for it to be playable but once it's set up it's a great instrument. Pickups are pretty articulate but not to bright either just perfectly balanced. If you get one I recommend to lock the bridge down to improve its tuning stability and sustain. Note it DOES NOT sound like a kc style mustang, it has its own sort of sound to it. Fretboard is pretty nice same with the low radius which I prefer. Overall it's one of my favorite guitars I've ever bought and I cannot recommend it enough if you play grunge and nirvana music.Preston

First impression is that this is a quality instrument, it feels very solid and well-crafted. No sharp fret ends or any other flaws (except for a fair amount of debris under the pickguard). It's hard to beat the classic combination of Alder, Maple and Rosewood for a sound that rings out loudly unplugged. I debated between the Vintera, Squier CV and the Performer models because these are the current vibrato-equipped Mustangs – in the end, the new and improved vibrato sold me on the Performer. I bought the Vintage White (butter-colored) and it weighs 7.7 lbs – I've seen this model as low in weight as 7.1 lbs. If the Sonic blue had competition stripes, that would have been my favorite. Out of the box, the setup was perfect (though I did put in a Stew Mac .25 neck shim to raise the bridge some – action-wise, it didn't need the shim, but helps with the trem action), and the urethane off-gassing potent. The Mustang, being on back-order for so long (I waited 3 months from order date), was probably just assembled when I received it on 12/7/21 (August and October '21 production dates are seen in the photo of neck pocket and neck heel). Besides being the only US production-run Mustang, it has the aforementioned revised vibrato – which is super smooth and stays in tune very well. [I did put on a set of locking tuners I had on hand, but I'm sure the stock ones are fine, too.] The obvious welcome revision is the nylon arm sleeve that replaces the screw-in type; it holds the arm in place at any angle. As well, the Performer body has a new rectangular rout, and larger spring routing, under under the tremolo (so, not interchangeable with a vintage unit or guitar without modification) – accommodating a metal plate that reinforces the fulcrum point of the two spring-tethered vibrato posts. This plate is attached with 3 larger screws on the face of the vibrato, giving it a slightly different look from the vintage Mustang vibrato/tremolo.The Fender script is also gone, maybe giving the initial appearance of a plain, cheaper import trem unit? Once removed from the body, the new vibrato feels heavy and substantial. The electronics are interesting – the spirit of the Mustang tone-control quirkiness lives on in the new Performer series Mustang. As a pickup set, they're well-matched and mine register 8k ohms for the neck pickup and 8.5k ohms for the bridge. Unlike a typical tone control that makes the guitar sound increasingly bassy as you roll off the treble, the Greasebucket circuit makes the pickups sound fuller as you roll the tone back – you're not losing the top-end until the very end of the tone range, like on 2. On 10, with the treble all the way up, the sound is very thin (maybe a substitute for the out-of-phase position found on a traditional Mustang?), and can be harsh if the volume knob is also all the way up – rolling the volume back to 8 will clean up the pick-ups. String attack is pronounced with the Yosemite set. The guitar sounds best with the tone rolled back 3/4's of the way, especially the bridge, imo – that's unusual and it gives the pickups a unique character and full sound, or not, depending how you set the tone circuit – from thinner to fuller is really the tonal range of the control set. Therefore, you might not get the immediate sonic versatility of a Strat or Tele (or, vintage-wired Mustang), but you do get cool sound-shaping controls that function differently compared to a normally wired guitar. As well, the Mustang has a more compact and intimate playing area, and with the very responsive vibrato that stays in tune, it's a lot of fun to play. The modern neck with its c-shape, 9.5" radius, medium jumbo frets and satin finish – will be easy to play for lots of different styles of music. String tension is pretty elastic, but still I'm fine with the 9's it comes with (it's what I normally use) as they work well with the spring setting of the trem – mine is set for the least amount of spring tension from the factory. I would imagine as you go up in string gauge you would want to take off the vibrato unit and move the spring position up 1 or 2 spots on the post. **I appreciate the included – made in Vietnam, embroidered Fender logo – light-duty – deluxe gig bag. There aren't a lot of short-scale case options out there and it fits this guitar perfectly, though not a super lot of protection. In the end, Fender has reimagined many aspects of the Mustang: upgraded vibrato; new electronics; medium-jumbo frets; satin finish neck. And, as an American made instrument it retains the traditional Rosewood fretboard, another plus (mine was dry and needed conditioning – to be expected from the fret install process and clean-up). I'm very pleased with this US produced guitar and the way it sounds, plays, feels – and looks!Jon

I was looking for an American-made Mustang and came across the American Performer series. I purchased the antique white version. It's more of a buttercream yellow than white. I was really surprised by the quality because I'd only previously played MIM models that weren't always great. The tremolo tail piece is different than the Strat and Jazzmaster systems. It's very sensitive and has incredible range. I see why some like to block it up because it bends at the slightest touch, but it works very well and stays in tune for the most part. Sound is great, both clean and crunch – it's very versatile. It's also very light and manageable. It's becoming one of my favorite guitars and I have an American Pro Jazzmaster, a MIM Tele, MIK Esquire, and a Gibson 335. My only quality gripe is the frets are a bit rough on the edges. I like the jumbos, but seems like they need a bit more smoothing over. Other than that the setup was great out of the box, tuners are great, and I like the greasebucket tone.Rojo

instrument looks and feels great. Neck, frets and body are gorgeous. However the finish elsewhere is not so good. Some tailpiece screws were only halfway in! The springs on the vibrato keep falling off the posts necessitating constant complete removal of the unit to re-attach them. This means loosening all the strings which are now knackered after about the fifth attempt to make it all work. The action is diabolical with frets buzzing on E A and D strings below the 12th fret. Adjusting the bridge means once again loosening strings and messing with the vibrato, which then drops it’s springs… The frustration level is very, very high. Looks lovely but couldn’t really recommend one unless you can afford a professional setup on top of the asking price.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I picked up the Surf Green Ltd Ed. Bullet Mustang a few days ago off the rack. They had two. One had rusty strings and sharp frets but the one I picked was almost perfect. These Mustangs are great for smaller learners and older guitarists that may enjoy the lighter string tension due to the short scale. I love the sound of both humbuckers. The bridge one gives you a nice grungy Nirvana like tone while the neck is smoother but both love to be driven. I picked up the Imperial Blue Mustang HH a few weeks ago. They both use the same humbuckers, The only difference I believe is the wood type, Basswood vs Poplar. Both guitars are quite light with the Basswood Surf Green one being somewhat lighter.These Mustangs are ideal for modding but for now I've only changed the cheap pickguard on this Surf Green one, putting a Tortoise Shell on it. So far I'm loving both of them and my Fender P90 Mustang is getting quite lonely.Tingman

First of all, this is a ton of value for the price. I got it on sale which made it even a bigger steal. Now, this guitar needs a lot of setup out of the box. You should polish the frets since they are as coarse as beach sand. Otherwise, string bends will be impossible and will most likely damage the cheap supplied strings (which should be changed immediately as with most new guitars). Expect some fret buzz, so be ready to adjust the saddles and the truss rod (I like my action quite low so this was a minor tweak for me). The intonation was actually quite close to perfect, it only needed a bit of tweaking on the A string. The nut and string trees are the ones you typically get on Squiers, which are good enough but won't do wonders for your tuning and should be replaced unless you are patient enough to tune your guitar every so often. Be sure to change these first before changing the tuners/bridge if you have tuning problems, I haven't changed the tuners or bridge on mine and don't plan to – they just work. Finally, the pickups are surprisingly good for the price, not too mellow and you can get some nice tones from the bridge pickup. You might soon outgrow them, though, and might opt for better humbuckers or P90s. For all these reasons, this guitar is not the best as a first guitar or for beginners unless it gets a proper setup first or if you're really planning to learn how to setup or change electronics/other parts in a guitar. However, those are the same reasons (plus the low price and simple design) that make this a really fun modding platform, and if you don't feel like modding it, with the right amount of work it's still amazing. It's light as a feather and the neck is very fast; you can probably muscle through hours of playing with barely any effort at all. The stock tones are reasonable enough, and in my opinion it looks awesome. You can't get a better deal for the money once you're aware of the above.Carlos, M

I like this guitar because of the 24" scale length. Everything else was pretty bad out of the box. The strings were a 1/4" off the fretboard. The fretboard was super dry. There was fret sprout. The frets felt like sandpaper on bends. The E strings are too close to the edge of the fretboard. When you play you're constantly hitting the pickup selector switch. The finish on the neck is supposed to be satin but it looks unfinished to me and there are light and dark areas on the neck which look bad. It is the worst finish on a neck I've ever seen on a guitar and I'm going to have to put some kind of finish on it. Trying to load strings is tricky and not as easy as on most other guitars you have to bend the end of the strings to get them to load. So that is the bad. The good? The tuners are your typical Chinese tuners that come on all cheap guitars these days, and they are fine. The pickups sound good. The 24" scale is great and really fun to play bends on!Steve

After months of searching for my next guitar I finally settled on the Ibanez Prestige AZ series. As a lifelong strat player, my goal was to find a guitar that married modern features with classic American Strat-like qualities. The obvious choice might be the modern Suhr series, but the pricing on those was too high for me to even entertain exploring. The Ibanez Prestige AZ2402 is the perfect rendition of the featuree I was looking for and after 3 weeks of playing, I could not be happier with this purchase. I was able to secure the guitar for a few hundred less than new, as it was labelled as "minor blemish" on the AMS site. I immediately jumped on it and am ecstatic that I did so. To this day 3 weeks later, I cannot tell what the "blemish" could be. This thing looks, feels, plays and sounds like a brand new guitar. Out of the box the guitar was set up and only just slightly flat of tune. To meet my preference, some minor adjustments were made to the neck and bridge, but the 20 minutes or so that it took to slap some fresh strings on and make the measurements was well worth it. I have even had to do this on product that was brand new before, so I could not even attribute this to the "minor blemish" label. Th pickups are amazing. The coil switch mechanisms are great for added versatility, but the standard humbuckers are excellent and the guitar should still be considered even if you do not plan to use the switching system. The neck is super creamy and clear as a bell, while the bridge is just hot enough for metal and crystal clear enough to jangle some clean chords. The bridge is very solid with comfortable saddles and screams top quality. Tuning stability has not been any sort of issue, even with the use of the bar. I am not an extreme whammy bar user, but I did do some tests on deep dives and the guitar tuning needed no adjustment afterwards. In fact, since I changed the strings and did the setup on the second day, the guitar has not gone out of tune at all. I will highlight that the neck is way thicker than what I was anticipating, but in a few hours I was right at home with the feel. I have played many wizard necks and it simply was not what I was looking for, being accustomed to chunkier modern strat necks. The AZ neck is big, chunkier than the strat but I am now in love with it and this guitar has become my go to #1. Definitely recommend even at the full new price. This same guitar made in the US with all the exact same appointments would cost in excess of 4K. Great Guitar!Ryan

Sound: The Hyperion pickups do a great job overall and offer up a nice array of different sounds for just about every style of music. When in HH mode it goes from blues to rock and beyond with no problem. When the DynaMix switch is engaged the guitar takes on a completely different characteristic from jangly to warm and has some great tonal options for clean and crunch. I like the versatility of this guitar. It takes a bit of time to get used to all the options and you’ll have to tweak your EQ here and there to avoid them sounding thin or shrill, but I think you'll be able to find quite a few useful tones with this guitar. Features: The Gotoh tuners are sturdy and stable. The ratio is great and they really smooth with no issues at all holding tune. I had never used them before and I had to YouTube how to unlock them lol, but they work great. I prefer locking tuners with the knob on the back, but that's just personal preference. The Gotoh bridge feels spectacular. The titanium saddles are so smooth, no more rubbing your palm raw over rough saddles or screws. I don't use a trem much these days but it does a good job staying in tune even with some dive bombs and flutters. The roasted maple neck is beautiful and has a great smooth feel on the back. The cutaway and contours are very comfortable and the recessed input jack is a thoughtful highlight. And yes, most wireless transmitters will fit. I could not get my Line 6 G10 transmitter to fit in the AZ Premium I had. The Prestige is not as deeply recessed and the transmitter fits just fine. This is my first go around with stainless steel frets but I do like the feel of them and they look good too. Ease of Use: It’s a fairly straightforward guitar to use and maintain. Nothing overly complicated here. Changing strings on a 2 point trem is a breeze compared to Floyd Rose or Edge terms and with the locking tuners you can get through the task in just a few minutes. All the back panels open easily for access to trem springs, input jack, and electronics. The exposed truss rod socket makes adjusting the neck a snap. The included multi-tool is really all you will ever need for quick changes. Quality: This is where everyone will say they have high end made in America PRS, or Custom Shop whatevers and this is just as good or better. They will say that for a good reason because it’s the truth. Fit and finish are spectacular. No gaps or wiggles to be found. Fret work and fingerboard are simply top notch. It feels like it’s been your guitar for years. Electronics are smooth and there is an overall premium feel to this instrument. The hype is real…. FujiGen makes great guitars. Value: Value is a subjective measure. This is an expensive guitar for sure but when compared to similar “modern player” guitars out there the 2402 sits right in the middle price-wise. I feel it’s well within reason for what you get and it’s a good value for your money. I’d rather get a painted body with stainless steel frets than a bookmatched top and standard frets. Manufacturer Support: Haven't needed it The Wow Factor: In my humble opinion the wow factor is somewhat unseen. The story behind the AZ series is quite novel in that Ibanez reached out and met with some of the best and brightest guitarists around today. Over a period of 2 or 3 years and through several prototypes they compiled all of those suggestions into this amazing series of instruments. If all the artists involved really feel that this is their ultimate guitar then that’s pretty wow in my book. Overall: OK first let’s talk about the 800 pound gorilla in the room. That neck!!!! If you have done any research on the AZ series you already know it’s not a Wizard neck, but you may be surprised at how big it is. When I first grabbed it I was thinking I was going to return it, but after playing on it for a few days it felt like home. Like a lot of things about this guitar, the neck is a paradox. It shouldn’t feel this comfortable to someone who prefers Charvel and Jacksons, but it does. It doesn’t feel like a shred neck, but you can play that way remarkably well on it. It has its own unique shape like nothing I’ve played before. If I had to compare it to something I’d say somewhat resembles a Fender American Elite neck but more of a U shape with bigger shoulders. I can say that I don’t notice a huge change when going back and forth with my other guitars. It’s easy to transition between them without a lot of readjustment time to ‘get the feel’. I’ve seen a lot of forum posts asking about how the AZ Prestige stacks up to other instruments. Here’s my opinion. I own a Charvel Pro Mod DK24 HSS with the roasted neck and I really like that guitar a lot. The 2402 is a little lighter and sleeker and has a higher quality feel. I think the Hyperions as humbuckers are more versatile than the Full Shred. The 2402 neck is thicker and feels a little wider vs the DK which is more like a very thin Strat neck. First off the Japanese craftsmanship on these guitars a second to none! Perfect execution in every way! Stainless steel frets will last a life-time and pickups offer a wide array of tone arsenal. If you need just one axe in your collection i would recommend this for sure. I had this on my wish list for a couple of years and after finally getting to try it out at my local Sam Ash, it did not disappoint. Online reviews were consistently good with a few mentions of the strings being coated and how it gave an unusual feel and sound. According to the Michael Kelly website, the strings are D'Addario EXP16 Coated Phosphor Bronze, Light, 12-53, so they shouldn't be some off the wall knock offs but my experience over the last few weeks has been that after a few minutes of playing, the tips of my fingers on my fret hand and the palm of my strumming hand turned black. I've never had this happen on any other guitars I have. I tried rotating after 15 minutes between my Jackson, my Strat, my Martin Backpacker and then my Michael Kelly and, every time, after a few minutes of playing the Forte Port, my fingers turned black. I've played a lot of guitars since the 80's (not professionally) and this is a new one on me. Obviously, the strings can be changed but I feel it is worth mentioning because for someone's first guitar, it may be off putting if they are unaware. If I can edit a review, I'll try to add a pic of my fingers (there's no way to make that sound right…) when I get time. That's my two cents…Sean

Overall: I was reluctant to buy this Michael Kelly. I like to try it before I buy it . With that being said , The guitar come it flawless. It was packaged very good . I played for about an hour after opening the box. The action is spot on. It plays and feels more like an electric guitar. Hammer on pull offs pitch bends are perfect. The sustain goes on forever. The neck feels a touch wider than my Martin, but that's a good thing for me. There are no fret buzzes at. It's vert light and comfortable , light weight is a must , I have had shoulder surgery 3 times. The balance and weight are near perfect . Michael Kelly may not have the prestige of Martin. Gibson and such , but as far as the sound and quality build , it simply can not be beat in this price range.Mark

This guitar is lightweight very well balanced, it seems to almost float when wearing it with a strap, As I heard in another rating, it feels like every single note on every single fret is available and reachable at any moment. It takes me back to the early 90's when I played a early 70's Gibson Explorer. What an easy guitar to play! It just seemed to fall off the frets into your hands, and this ESP SnakeByte is no different. I've heard James Hetfield talk about his love for his Gibson Explorers, so it's not a surprise that his signature series SnakeByte has that feel and tone! I really like the locking tuners, what a great invention! It makes the horrible business of replacing strings easy and painless! The locking bridge is also a delight, keeps intonation intact when changing strings. I like the tone of the JH HET SET pups, they scream when needed, and purr when needed. This guitar matches up particularly well with a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, or most any amp from Mesa Boogie or Marshall.mkcr33l

I was so excited to get this guitar and I hooked it up out of the box a played it for about 5 minutes. Unplugged it put it back in the case. The next day I hooked it up again and got a terrible flanger like sound out of the guitar so I switched guitars and my other one was fine. Before I sent it back I wanted to check the 9v battery in the back compartment for the pickups and discovered only 1.2 v of power coming out of the battery. I swapped the battery and now it's good. I just thought it was kind of annoying that esp would sell guitars with off brand dead batteries. I know it's not musiciansfriends fault but still.Chris

Having previously purchased a lemon drop second hand I was impressed with the vintage brand. I've previously owned custom shop guitars by Fender and Gibson so have perspective on how "good ones" should sound. The v6 was ordered from Richard as I enjoyed his YouTube videos and liked the thought of the guitar being essentially hand picked and set up prior to delivery. Richards pricing is not the cheapest but it does ensure that the guitar you receive plays as well as it possibly can. The guitar itself arrived in tune, set up to my specifications with a blocked trem and 10 gauge strings. The finish was flawless and the fact vintage spec the correct woods for these guitars (alder and maple) really sold me. It has a full size tremblock, bent steel saddles and sounds like a good strat should. The Wilkinson pickups in the lemon drop where excellent paf approximations and the single coils are no exception. Plus the bridge is wired to the second tone pot which is something I always do as I tend to roll off the treble when soloing. The guitar is also very light and can be played comfortably for hours. Packing was top notch. Double boxed. Comms excellent and I would wholeheartedly recommend purchasing from Richard again. In fact I have Gas for a Eastman Les Paul in 2020😊Matt S.

If you've ever put a guitar together from after market parts, even 2nd hand, its doesn't take long to rack up an expense. For Richard to offer this guitar for £287 with a full setup is quite extraordinarily extraordinary. The QC on this one is exceptional from Vintage and despite thorough inspection I cannot find any flaws at all. It is a very lightweight guitar, slightly neck heavy, so I'd recommend purchasing a good quality leather strap to prevent slippage. The highlight of the VS6 would be the neck which is a wide C profile and very enjoyable to play. The setup from Richard again is exceptional and you really have to applaud the effort invested making these very affordable guitars so playable. On that note, I would also recommend that these are perfect guitars to learn some basic setup skills on; though very well setup I have made small adjustments as can be expected as you break a guitar in. All in all, a great value guitar which Richard and his team have helped punch well above its weight.Jordan T.

I had a red 2012-ish era Casino for a few years that I liked but didn't love. I was a big fan of the overall vibe of hollow-body plus 2 P90s, but the pickups were a little dark, and it didn't play very well (small cramped neck, some fit and finish issues, fret buzz even after a professional setup, etc). I ordered this new model back in December and just received it last week (7 months later). It was absolutely worth the wait. It fixes everything I didn't love about the previous model – better sounding pickups, wider neck, improved fit and finish. I wouldn't consider myself a "real" guitar player (mostly just play for songwriting and recording projects), but this new Casino is extremely fun to play and has reignited some of the passion I had for playing back in my teens. The techs at CME clearly did a great job setting up the action before shipping, and the color is truly unique and handsome – my partner has remarked several times about how beautiful of an instrument it is! First ever guitar that was perfectly setup out of the box. Not only is the fit and finish perfect, all it needed was to be tuned and played. I tried to do some setup, but I couldn't improve on it. It plays as smoothly as any guitar I've ever handled and I love the tone of the P90s on the hollow body. I've had it about two weeks. It took a while to get the hang of the breakup levels through my tube amps. It's definitely different than the humbuckers on my Gibsons. The finish is rich and deep. I have a Chinese Casino in the same finish, but you can tell the difference between them from a distance. Look closely and the USA is absolutely gorgeous. The difference in sound between the two is like night and day and I used to like the way the Chinese one sounded. I haven't found any flaws in fit or finish. I got it out of the box and put my gauges on it. Everything was in spec so I tuned it up. It was a half step low all the way around. Tuned up, the intonation was perfect. I've just been playing it ever since and it gets a little more comfortable every day. I love the neck and being light as a feather doesn't hurt either. This will be my gigging guitar for the foreseeable future.RTonka

Sound: YES COMPARABLE TO MORE EXPENSIVE MODELS THE AMERICAN MADE P90s sound outstanding….However the chrome finish wore OFF in just a few months. And the finish on the GUITAR BODY scratches VERY easy..The bridge saddles move on their own while playing..I would LOOK into that ..or change it to a roller bridge. It plays MUCH smoother and no more adjustments had to be made tuning machines are a little on the loose side .The pickup select switch on mine sometimes DOESN'T ALWAYS make a good connection on the bridge pick up (although I believe it's a switchcraft switch ) Also it took about a month of playing before the BLACK residue from the fingerboard stopped coming up on my fingers. But besides all that minor stuff I love the guitar… and is there any way you could bring the Cutaway up more about four frets?? Overall: It plays and sounds BEAUTIFUL…however the chrome finish wore off rather quickly…also the saddles in the bridge had to be reajusted frequently because they moved on their own.. Also went out of tune alot BUT..OTHERWISE plays like silk and I absolutely love the sustainability and sound of the P-90sLarry

Couldn't find this guitar in the stores so I pulled the trigger and ordered online. I don't listen to Rancid, so I bought this guitar more because it's a baldwin-era gretsch with a cool finish and filtertron pups. The pickups are crisp and clear and take dirt well, love the control over tone with all the knobs. I am impressed with these blacktop pups. They sound very close to the hs filters in my 5120. I see no need to change them. The top is thicker than my 5120, binding all over the place, beautiful headstock and wider body. The action was high and I set the intonation, but otherwise no work needed. Here's the thing, the flat finish does wear off leaving shine spots where your arms and hands come into contact. Like on the neck and upper body, and where I rest my pinky or fingers while picking. It looks cool to me but something you should be aware of before buying. Tuning is pretty stable, never seems to go way off. Body is balanced and neck plays smooth and fast. Love thJesse

I wasn't sure what to expect from the Mustang as my previous experiences with short scale basses had not been good. But everything about this has been fine. I feel that this bass is excellent value for money. I was surprised by the high quality of the workmanship and materials. Of course it needs a setup to one's preference but that is really only a matter of a tweak of the truss rod, lowering the action and setting intonation. All of this is detailed carefully in the owners manual to assist the diy player or take it to a local luthier for a basice setup. Lots of variation in tones and really fun to play, I'm really happy with it.Tom

I know that I will start an argument with this comment but I'm gonna say it anyway. Why lug around a full size bass guitar when the short scale bass sounds just as good and weighs a lot less. I tried a full size bass and to tell the truth I would have never been able to play a set with it. It was just too heavy for me. Maybe twenty years ago I may have been able to take the weight but not now. I am a guitar player mostly and the full size bass was too much. This bass is the perfect weight, the perfect look and quality, and sounds like a full size bass. It just does. I see a time where the 34 inch scale will wither away and be replaced with the shorter scale bass. It's inevitable. The full size bass has nothing to offer over the shorter scales than maybe cosmetic options. And that will change as time goes on a people realize the advantages of the shorter scale. As a disclaimer I will say that is my opinion. I am sure that full time bass players may have their own reasons for the full size bass.Danny

Pros – Compared to a G6120 which it's a copy of, is remarkable value. First time I've seen a lower priced Gretsch with a Bigsby! Well finished, good sized neck, and Intonation spot on. Seems to keep in tune well. Cons – Nut and action had to be taken down a touch. Pickups although set at Gretsch's optimum height seem a little weak and slightly lacking in tone. (Might invest in TV Jones at a later date). Tone control has little variation. Pity the Bigsby and bridge aren't gold plated to match the rest of the guitar. No case included. As it's a big guitar with 3rd party cases apparently unavailable, surely a case should be included, even if it puts the price up.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Finding a decent lefty guitar is no easy task. With the help of my salesman Brian, he assisted me in making a informed decision while still playing into what I was looking for and he guided me right into this left handed Gretsch. Love the guitar…highly recommend him for your music equipment needs. The manager Fredrick was extremely helpful as well with ensuring I was well taken care of and to top it all off it was an online order and it arrived a day early!! Overall: I have a small, but carefully curated collection of guitars. I can't/don't spend big bucks on each guitar, so I want to make sure whatever I get ticks a lot of boxes and, for me, this is perfect. It's light weight, super comfortable (has both arm and belly cuts) and plays like a dream. And with all the super thin necks that are so prevalent today, it's nice to find something a bit more standard for those of us with bigger hands. I did upgrade to locking tuners, but I don't think I'll be touching the pickups. Overall a great pick for a T-style daily player!Grant

The good: Very resonant acoustically before being plugged in, this is the most important sound test, pickups can be changed, a dull instrument is a dead end. The nut was cut well. The fit and finish was excellent, no blemishes, overspray etc. The binding looked perfect. Weight was very good, not too heavy. I really liked the neck and shape, not ultra thin but not too bulky either. They seemed to find that happy medium. The tuners are very good, but I'll probably swap them out for a set of hipshot locking tuners just to make string changes a little quicker. Pickups are very nice. I was assuming that I would upgrade them but after playing this a while, I'm not sure the improvement would be worth the cost as these sound great. The 4th selector option that converts the two singles to a humbucker sound is very nice, I've found my self gravitating there in certain situations. This pickup option takes a great all around tele and makes it a complete workhorse for live shows. I have a Gibson Les Paul, PRS CE, several high end Ibanez guitars, a very nice Godin Velocity as well as various other guitars. This guitar was to check the telecaster box for me and it makes me wonder why I didn't get one sooner. Great all around guitar, this could very easily become my go to live guitar just because it's such a player and is much less expensive than my other ones. It can definitely cover all the bases of the other ones. I can't compare this to a high end Fender because I don't own one but I imagine the differences would be minimal. I recommend this guitar as a good mid tier option. It punches higher than it's weight and is a great value for the money.Jeremy

Having a couple guitars I was curious about the short scale. Came across a Mustang P90 in surf green with maple fret in the open box section. Awesome deal , guitar is a joy to play. Overall: I can't believe there aren't any reviews of this guitar yet!I have the Burgundy Mist version of this with the pao ferro fretboard which, sadly, zZounds no longer carries. It's pretty, really pretty, and it exudes a seriously vintage vibe. (I saw an antique Burgundy Mist Chevrolet last week and I immediately thought of my feisty little Fender.)The hardware; bridge & tuners, is your standard MiM Fender quality. They're more than up to the task. The Strat-style bridge makes this an easy guitar to keep in tune. (I once had a 1978 Mustang and keeping it in tune was a nightmare that not even Edgar Allen Poe or H.P. Lovecraft could imagine.)The MP-90 pickups are capable of so much that it I could fill a whole page trying to accurately describe them. They are beefy enough to really drive a good tube amp. (My main amps are a Marshall DSL1 and Vox AC4-C112.) On a clean setting the neck pickup on its' own isn't particularly impressive, kinda dark, but the middle and bridge positions are really versatile if you tweak the volume and tone controls.With distortion, in my case a Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion (it's more of a gargantuan fuzz than a distortion pedal), all three positions sings with a tone that would make Leslie West smile broadly.I'm not a big guy (5'9", 150 lbs) so the small offset body and short scale neck are really comfortable.There is only one real drawback to this marvelous axe but it's something that shouldn't for even a second dissuade anyone from adding this guitar to their guitarsenal, and that's the pickup selector switch. It's junk. It cuts out and is rather staticky (is that a word?). It's a cheap piece of junk but it usually works so I can deal with it. (And you can as well.) I'll eventually replace it but there's no need to right now.My particular specimen had a truly beautifully grained pao ferro fretboard, with the frets being smooth and very well dressed. I love a big monstrous tone and this little wonder genuinely delivers.(Fender's prices have gone up since I bought mine but this particular axe is an absolute joy to play and for the price is still a true bargain. It loves, LOVES, full six-string power chords so if you're in a Mountain tribute band then you'll find a lot to like in this guitar.)I am first and foremost a "Telecaster guy" but I love pulling out this little dude and blasting away like Han Solo in a cantina full of Greedos.I've gone on for far too long here but it's only because I really, really like this guitar.[In my 'stars' rating I give this guy five stars in the 'manufacturer support' column because I own a bunch of Fenders and have never had a problem.]Mark

A friend and ex-coworker told me about MK a couple of years ago. I saw him again recently and he asked if I had checked it out. I hadn't but I did this time. Glad I did! I ordered the Patriot Decree in Caramel Burst with a case. Both the guitar and case are beautiful! Excellent instrument and snug case. Plays and sounds like a dream. The only issue I found was when you turn the tone control all the way down on the bridge pickup it kills the volume? An MK rep told me this was normal. I have a LP, a 335 and an SG, all with humbuckers, and none of them suffer from this malady, but I would rarely, if ever, use that setting so I can live with it. Other than that I'm very pleased with this guitar and the usual great experience with AMS.G2

Overall: Well I didn't get to play it because zZounds sent me a customer return with a snapped neck that apparently didn't get checked prior to shipping. But even with just looking at & feeling the guitar it didn't feel worth the money. I'd say the cheapest Epiphone Les Paul Special is a way nicer feeling & looking instrument. I read great reviews that these play and sound good but to me it look and felt like cheap laminate wood grain with an uglier finished than the pictures show. Definitely won't order another one after returning this damaged one.Cory

So I had a hiccup in the beginning with this guitar, but besides the blemishes even though it was a brand new guitar american took lead and made it right with me. As far as the guitar goes well she’s bad out the box. Yes I have different tuners and different strings now but that’s a players choice. What comes in the box is amazing. Rich beautiful highs on bridge and smooth blues tone on the neck and neck with bridge together there’s no stopping that sound. This guitar is simply amazing in my books. I have purchased many of guitars and this one is by far the best out of the box. I would recommend this to a beginner or intermediate player as they don’t have to waste money as it is well equipped out of the box.Gabriel

I'm a collector and a builder. I've been playing for about 45 years, but don't seem to have the talent for playing beyond the point of entertaining myself. That's okay, I love the guitar as an art object and this one is a little masterpiece. I love the light weight, and that, coupled with the P90s(I guess)gives me a sound that I have been looking for. The 9.5" radius neck is the first I've ever played, and is absolutely perfect for me. Setup was spot on out of the box, and seems easy to maintain. Construction is to very high standards, and should last a lifetime in the hands of a caring player, after all, it was designed as a student guitar!Cal

My first favorite electric in the 60s, was a Jag. I wanted the 24 inch scale. I wanted p90s too. This mustang looks great and has both features I wanted. It was described as a return in condition 3. I can't find the offending conditions. It looks as if new. So for a significant reduction in price, this required no thought. There is a local luthier and freind who is wonderful. It is worth every cent to have him do the set up. I've been looking for years for an affordable vintage mustang or bronco. They go for stupid money on line. I was waiting for more reviews or chance to play one of these new Mexico mustangs. Solid wood, solid bridge, good Neck! At full retail a good price. Looking at my white mustang on the stand, the pictures don't do it justice. I don't leave guitars alone. It's an addiction. Up grade the p90s ? With multiple pick up options due to the switches, this guitar is perfect for any genre of music. It's great for jazz and rock, even distorted grunge. The rosewood neck is an ideal size for anyone it fit their hands around it. Also it's great for sliding. The vibrato arm is just astounding the way it can alter your tone. This guitar reminds me of a rad spaceship, and can sound like one too with the right guitar player. Vintage never felt nor sounded good like this!stayxretro81
