Overall: This is one fine acoustic guitar. Beautiful woods and finish. Electronics and tuner are good. Tone and action excellent. Been playing 50 years and would not hesitate playing out or taking to a jam session plugged or unplugged. Have owned dean entry level acoustic bass for years, solid build and reliable. Excellent acoustic bass! Plays amazing and the finish is flawless! I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the full 34 scale neck, turned out to be great! I am finding it way easier to transition back and forth to my electric bass vs my old 30ish scale ABG. Tuner works very well but I'm not a huge fan of how it sounds plugged in kinda tinny. That's alright tho cause I bought it to practice unplugged and will rarely play it plugged in anyway. I swapped the strings out to tapewounds and made an already amazing guitar even better. I think those strings are a must for any acoustic bass, rounds are just too noisy at that low volume. But all around a great looking and great playing instrument!Josh

I have not stopped playing this sucker. Thought it was delivered next week but it came a couple days ago. This will be my church guitar. A Fender Hellcat is not a church guitar lol! Technically, this is my second Martin. I have the backpacker and it has been played to death but still holding up. I opted for any "600$ Martin" and this kept coming up. I am happy with this guitar regardless of the lack of research I did for it. Now that it is in my hands I can judge it more thoughtfully. The feel of the guitar is something I've never had before with any other guitar. I wanted Martin for this reason. I just didn't know how much "feel" there was to a well-crafted instrument. I play at some parties, but mostly recording in a small home studio. This guitar has a very nice deep and rich sound – great for full chords to back up vocal(s). Despite its description as an environmentally adaptable guitar, the neck compressed slightly when kept it in a colder room of the house, exposing undressed fret ends which were very sharp. More like what you might expect from a $100 guitar. Additionally, the action on higher frets began to get higher within the first couple of months. Martin does not include a truss rod wrench with the guitar! Had to order one. Altogether, great sound, but sub-par quality for a Martin. Still would recommend the guitar, just for the sound.Tom R
I've had an alvarez for the past 15 years that has served me well, however the frets are pretty much worn down to the point they were in need of replacing. I decided to just get a new guitar and retire the old guy, went to GC and tried a few acoustics and ultimately settled, so I thought, on another new alvarez. As I was walking out of the room I saw the Martin and it was within $40 of the alvarez and I figured, what the heck I'll just give it a quick play. I couldn't believe how great this thing sounds for being composed mostly of paper and wood scraps. It's not a perfect comparison to a high end Martin, but it definitely comes close. It is bright, clear and still punchy on the lower notes with very good sustain. I immediately put the alvarez back and took this guy home with me. I couldn't find much online about this exact model, it doesn't even show up on the Martin website. However from what I can tell it's the same as any other all HPL body Martin's with a different color wood grain. The wood grain pattern has no effect on tone with the all HPL versions so it's really just cosmetically what you like. Up close you can absolutely tell this isn't real wood (except for the headstock, and even the fret board is passable as real wood). And it actually started to make me wonder if I should return this and get the all wood Alvarez. Upon further thinking I decided it was a stupid and superficial thing to care about. This guitar played better and sounded better than any of the real wood instruments in it's price range. Build quality is great. No sharp fret ends, no glue on the body, no cracks or dents. I tuned this once so far. On the way home from GC in the back seat of my vehicle. It's now been 3 days since then and the tuning has held which is shocking. I never thought I'd like a fake wood instrument, but time makes fools of us all and martin can apparently build a fantastic guitar out of paper.Luke

I am a petite female and love the size of this Martin Little! I had considered purchasing a baritone ukulele with 6 strings because I wanted a very small body. The Little is larger than a baritone uke but is still within the range of PERFECT and came with an acoustic/electric option so I can jam! I have larger guitars but this little gem is easy to travel with and durable with great sound! I purchased a tuner cause the pick up didn't come with one. Absolutely love the colors on the neck! I purchased the Little Martin for two reasons. I wanted a small travel size guitar for grab and go playing on the couch. I also wanted a guitar that was not made of all solid woods, because I live in a region that has high humidity as well as significant cold in the winter months. The Little Martin checked both of those boxes. Even though it is small, the Little Martin has a very big voice. When you dig in with a pick, it really projects nicely. Chords sound great, and it has a nice tone. Due to its size, it also makes it easy to play with your fingers. This is a very well made small guitar that is going to last for many years. Bravo Martin!!
I have had my Little Martin for a couple of years at this point and of the four guitars I own, this is the one that gets played the most. This is because due to the small size and very stable construction materials and techniques, it is always near by, ready to pick up and play at a moments notice. While I keep more expensive and delicate guitars in their hard cases with humidifiers to maintain homeostasis as much as possible, the Little Martin is quite at home on a Jamstand next to my desk. I do keep a Planet Waves humidifier between the strings, even when the LM is on the stand because I live in the NE USA where the winter air in my home is very dry due to forced hot air heating. Since the body of the guitar is the High Pressure Laminate (HPL), it appears to me unaffected by changes in temperature and humidity, but I have found that without the humidifier, the bracing seems to dry out more and the sound can become a little 'pingy'. In fact this was my first impression when I picked it up at the local GC after ordering online. If I had not been able to play one in-store previously, I would have been disappointed with the tone and probably returned it. Instead I put on a new set of strings and put the humidifier between the strings and kept it in the quality Martin gig bag that came with it. Within a week it was sounding much better, more like the one that I tried in-store previously. Since the GC stores have good humidity levels in the acoustic rooms, this is a good way to try out a new guitar (after making sure it is in tune). The only reason that I ordered online to pickup in store was that when I was ready to buy, my local GC did not have it in stock at the time.Ron the eternal guitar novice

This guitar is in fantastic condition! the only flaw is one very tiny dent in the binding on the lower bout of the guitar on the back. i tried to get a pic, but it wouldnt show up! this guitar is made of laminated koa front, back, and sides. it has amazing sustain and resonance. it is equipped with a d'angelico preamp and pickup that includes and onboard tuner. nut width is 1.69 inches. neck material is mahogany scarf. fretboard material is ovangkol. i have installed a black pickguard on it as well. it also comes with a madarozzo padded gig bag.

The guitar performs and works as advertised. It's not a bad guitar by any means but it's a guitar that lives way past it's price range either. If you want a really nice D'ANGELICO acoustic then get something from the Excel line. But this is bottom of the premier line. This does the job for a early guitar, the neck is easy to play with low action to match. Put some warm strings on it. I recommend an 85/15 string and let it warm up and break in. It's a basic acoustic electric. It does what it says it will do. Nothing more or nothing less. I got it on an overstock sale but I'd buy it again at full price but maybe not the buttercream. The black or natural wood finish look the best. The buttercream is like they wanted the color of spruce with no grain. It's different for sure. If you're wanting something really nice save your money. If you want a decent backup not starter guitar this should fit the bill. My four star rating is with the full asking price in mind. If you get it on sale it's five star for the price.Nick
i wrote a review early on with my first impressions. 3 months on it it still sounds great – it's been my sofa guitar and I've played it a great deal. The tone has mellowed a bit with use. Neck is still exactly where I set it and the whole guitar feels nicely solid. The big surprise is that this thing sounds FANTASTIC through a PA. It's balanced, it's dynamic, it has none of the harsh quackiness you usually get with low end piezo systems. You can hit it HARD without overdriving the pre. It can get nice and loud without feeding back and the onboard tuner is super handy. The first time I played it in public I was basically mobbed by other guitarists wanting to know where I got it. And this isn't even their high end pickup system. Remarkable.Stu
Ordered this on a SDOTD and will say right up front that it's a really NICE guitar, especially for the $$$. I was needing a smaller guitar w/ electronics for small venues, not needing to invest a bunch of money and after reading decent reviews I said "why not?". After opening the box things got off to a rocky start – – 1st string was broken, and also noticed the neck was really bowed from a loose truss rod, but since I do my own setups on new guitars these was fairly easy to remedy. So was the excessively dry fingerboard and bridge, which I rubbed with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil. But, two of the faux mother-of-pearl position markers were sticking up on one end (loose) and that got me to thinking maybe this was a bad idea. I almost boxed it up and sent it back, but since it was so nice otherwise I decided to super glue them back and overlook it. Otherwise, a beauty of a guitar, and after it was all set up this thing really sang. Unplugged, it's fairly unimpressive, but with a decent tone and plenty of harmonics. The fingerboard turned out to play wonderfully, low nice action with smooth frets and I love the thin profile and fairly narrow width of the neck, the shining point of this guitar. Tuners were OK, and the BONE saddle and nut were fine after I lowered the action a bit. The sound of this guitar is amazing plugged in, and the D'Angelico branded electronics are outstanding. Plugged in it sounds equal to anything I've ever heard, and I heard and played a few in my 60 years of performing. Mine does not have a phase switch as is listed, so take note of that one point. The really great thing that I love about the electronics – – the input jack & battery are on the rear bottom side instead of through the normal end pin jack, a major convenience that is not listed, so this makes up for any other minor cons of the guitar. Overall: Bought this guitar when it first came out. It's HPL so the finish doesn't really matter compared to other HPL back and sides but the neck feel and solid wood neck improves pliability from the previous earlier HPL models I have owned. From the first strum I knew I had a good one and I doubt you'll regret buying one of these. Big Martin sound for not a lot of money.Lewis
This guitar was in tune when it arrived, I highly recommend this to musicians who don't care about buying collectors art. My step-dad has over 30 k in 5 American Martin's. 99% of the tone of an all-solid guitar with the added durability and aesthetics of layered Koa. Should it be priced the same as the 000-13e? Debatable. Should it be judged as a "layered", "plywood" or "HPL" guitar? I don't think so. Essentially, Martin sandwiched two fine Koa veneers (not a cheap wood by any means) over a solid African mahogany core. How fine is the veneer? No idea. Does it affect the tone? Minimally. My guess is they're covering an aesthetically imperfect but otherwise perfectly fine piece of mahogany. My Koa B/S look great but I've seen others that are truly spectacular. If sustainability matters to you – this guitar hits the mark. The black tuners and headstock, black Richlite fretboard, and black pickguard contrasted against the mother-of-pearl rosette and fretboard inlays is just on another level. It's super comfortable to play, it sounds fantastic (again, a 1% difference in tone compared to the 000-13e IMO), it has added durability, and the solid spruce top will sound even better over time. I personally love the look and feel of the Richlite fretboard. The built-in tuner is super convenient. The electronics are tucked away and don't impact the look of the guitar at all. Do I wish it came with a hard case? Sure. The gig bag is great quality though. Unless you're bringing it on a plane or moving, the gig bag is more than enough protection. I originally wanted to sell it for a 000-13e (which was out of stock everywhere I went) but every time I get an offer, I can't seem to let it go. I do think it should be $100-$200 less than the 000-13e but still well worth the price, especially if you really want the Koa look. It's a keeper for me.Alex C
Owner/player of 2 1960's Martin D-18's,purchased to play in church praise band plugged in and avoid taking my vintage Martins to gigs in cold/hot weather & wild crowd extremes. Also moving to smaller guitars lately with shoulder pain issues. The KOA veneer back and sides are more beautiful than the pictures suggest up close. Love the familiar sound of the mahogany however which is the interior wood. Black tuner knobs add some nice contrast with the woods. Tremendously easy to play with nice low action/setup. Known as a fingerstyle size guitar but I'm more of a flat picker and it works great for that as well. Battery installation was a bit confusing and not clear in instructions but alas I wasn't familiar with this particular battery setup. I haven't plugged it in yet but expect it to sound great as I have some experience with Fishman pickups. Sounds like a guitar that should cost at least $1000 more. Very happy, I upgraded it to a hard shell case as I'm not a fan of gigbags but the gigbag it comes in is nicer than the usual gigbag. Highly recommended.Bill
Simply put this is a great guitar. I bought it because I also own a D18 E Retro and, with the price tag of the D18, I was always hesitant to take it out when I’d be playing a hot, humid summertime outdoor gig or something like that. The Richlite fretboard is incredibly stable, the guitar stays in tune, and the new Fishman Matrix electronics are outstanding. I actually reach for this one over the D18 the majority of the time. Price, quality, and outstanding tone … it’s all there.Jeff

First thing that I noticed when unpacking was how much better this looked than the pictures. The gloss finish with the wood stain just looks incredible with the highly colored abalone around the sound hole. The binding isn't just black like my previous Breedlove, but I don't know how to describe it, looks amazing though. Second thing I did was change strings to my preferred D'Addario Gypsy Jazz. There was some fret buzz so I raised the action. It came with a battery, but it was dead, so replaced that. Once set up I plugged it into my amp and the guitar plays great and sounds amazing, so impressed with it overall. Only minor complaint is that the tuners stick a bit, I guess they had to save money somewhere.Neal
When i received this guitar i was blown away by how perfect it was, not a flaw to be found anywhere. It was Almost perfectly in tune !!! tuned it up and it took me back to my younger days. excellent tone, great projection and stellar looks. if i had too gripe it, it is somewhat thin on the bottom end, but not a deal breaker at all.while somewhat subtle the top has a lot of figuring in it and moves a lot as you look over it, the back is fully quilted and the sides are flamed nicely. as a side note it doesn't come with a hard case….but i did find that this case(Epiphone EL-0CS) fits it PERFECTLY !!
My bass collection lacked both a fretless and an acoustic, so hoping to kill two birds with one stone, I ordered this on a lark. I also have been intrigued by Breedlove for a while as a company. Couldn't be more pleased with this bass. Great action. Fretboard is super comfortable. Tone is full and warm. I find myself playing this acoustically nearly every day now in the three months since I've had it. The preamp is not perfect and feedback is a bit of a (not insurmountable)danger when it's plugged in. I have not gigged with it but I recommend highly for practice, recording, small groups, writing. In short, a beautiful, fun bass at a fair price.

Found this Special Edition in Guitar Center when I had to return a faulty Washburn. Don't let the all solid wood purists convince you that anything not all solid isn't worth it. My answer is, it depends. Nowadays, SOME laminate guitars are up there with all solid guitars. Type of construction and wood type/quality matters more than solid vs not solid imo. This thing has a Solid Koa top (all satin which I like better than high gloss), that matters most and it sounds amazing. The layered back and sides for me ensures that when I'm traveling with it and playing around, I will not have to worry as much about it getting damaged as easily. Quick note, I did upgrade the strap button (Chrome to Gold), bridgepins (plastic to ebony with pearl inlay), and tuners (chrome Taylor tuners to gold Gotoh tuners). My suggestion, IF you can find it at a local Guitar Center then definitely pick it up and play it. You may not be able to put it down.Ty, B
I was not looking for a Taylor, but after playing everything I could get my hands on for a few months This KOA guitar was the one that spoke to me. I was looking for a contrast from my very bright and loud Ovation, and this has a sweet buttery tone that is beautiful. I do find it to be much quieter than my other guitars, but it sounds good plugged and unplugged. If you have not seen one in person, it is even better looking than the pictures – just a gorgeous finish. The neck is very comfortable and easy to play, and the size fits nicely. I am mostly loving it but don't want to give it 5 stars for two reasons: First – I am having a heck of a time keeping it in tune. I've been playing it almost every day for almost 6 weeks now, I had a gig Friday night where I had to re-tune 3 times during the night The strings should be plenty broke in by this point. Possibly just more sensitive to environment/temperature then I'm used to, but I'm not sure, the tuners etc. all look to be high quality and setup correctly. Second, the hard case – while it looks nice and provides great protection, it weighs about a thousand pounds and I've already had to hammer the nails back in on the hinges.Dave
I was looking for a special acoustic- one with tone fir weeks that was not a pain to play. I have owned some excellent dreadnought in the past, so high expectations. When I played this at my local Guitar Center. my wife said 'that is amazing. ' She does not impress easily. The tone was angelic, and the playability first rate. I went from ' I want a rosewood dreadnought' to 'this is the one.' The included case is one of the best I have seen. I have played it with amd without usng the built in ES2 system. Works either way. You do give up sone volume versus a dreadnought shape, but you get a way better neck and something special, that will only sound better as it ages. Most of the guitars I had in mind otiginally cost two or three times what this Taylor sells for. I recommend playing the one you buy- go to a store. The two examples Guitar Center had sounded quite different. I obviously bought the better sounding one. While the high gloss example of this model do look sensational, I am good with the satin finish- looks mote natural to me amd feels much better in your hands. Detailed sound analysis: Bass is stronger than expected for the guitar shape. Not as even as some guitars, scooped sound profile. Mids and treble are sweet. Koa sounds warmer over time, but this guitar has a great start in that direction. Sustain is there. Sounds good played soft to medium- if you want to thrash this is not your guitar. Better on fingerstyle then pick. But fine with a pick if you use the right one. The expensive but worth it Elixir strings it comes with are perfect. Thank you Taylor. This same investment in any other new guitar will not get you anything in this league. In case you have an issue with it being made in Mexico, please remember that the guitar was a Spanish invention, so a very strong guitar making tradition to honor.Paul

OK, I got mine 5 or 6 years ago, because my arthritis was making steel string acoustics too difficult. The slightly wider neck and nylon strings have extended my career. I use it two ways, first, it's great for solo work, fingerstyle. I also play it with a pick, for jazzy and Willie Nelson country style. There's little feedback at normal volume, and it has a great tone. Just played out with it, and got many compliments on the sound.TGB
The picture on the AMS website doesn’t do the guitar justice, as it’s much more beautiful than that! The tuners are typical Godin proprietary, as they look good, and are smooth and stable in operation. I play with many alternative tunings, and am very happy with their smooth use. When running straight through my Roland Jazz Chorus 40, I can get any sound I expect from it. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get a GR-55 soon to experiment with all the synth sounds! With the exception of the heavy total weight, this guitar is perfect for my use.John K.
I've been Jonesin' for a nylon string guitar to add to my arsenal. I tried several, but the thing that I kept coming back to was the intonation issues inherent in a traditional design. So, I started looking for a nylon string that had different compensation on the saddle pieces. I came across this Godin, and since I already have two 13-pin synth access guitars, this seemed like a perfect match. When it arrived, I was surprised to find that it's actually a solid body guitar with some chambering. I mean, I knew it was a slim body, but I thought it was a slim hollow body. In retrospect, this has some advantages and some disadvantages… First of all, this is NOT the guitar that you're going to grab to sit around the campfire with your friends. It's as loud as a normal electric guitar that's not plugged in. The advantage, of course, is that you can jack this up as loud as you please in performance without worrying about body howl type feedback.Doug

I had this on my wish list for a couple of years and after finally getting to try it out at my local Sam Ash, it did not disappoint. Online reviews were consistently good with a few mentions of the strings being coated and how it gave an unusual feel and sound. According to the Michael Kelly website, the strings are D'Addario EXP16 Coated Phosphor Bronze, Light, 12-53, so they shouldn't be some off the wall knock offs but my experience over the last few weeks has been that after a few minutes of playing, the tips of my fingers on my fret hand and the palm of my strumming hand turned black. I've never had this happen on any other guitars I have. I tried rotating after 15 minutes between my Jackson, my Strat, my Martin Backpacker and then my Michael Kelly and, every time, after a few minutes of playing the Forte Port, my fingers turned black. I've played a lot of guitars since the 80's (not professionally) and this is a new one on me. Obviously, the strings can be changed but I feel it is worth mentioning because for someone's first guitar, it may be off putting if they are unaware. If I can edit a review, I'll try to add a pic of my fingers (there's no way to make that sound right…) when I get time. That's my two cents…Sean
Overall: I was reluctant to buy this Michael Kelly. I like to try it before I buy it . With that being said , The guitar come it flawless. It was packaged very good . I played for about an hour after opening the box. The action is spot on. It plays and feels more like an electric guitar. Hammer on pull offs pitch bends are perfect. The sustain goes on forever. The neck feels a touch wider than my Martin, but that's a good thing for me. There are no fret buzzes at. It's vert light and comfortable , light weight is a must , I have had shoulder surgery 3 times. The balance and weight are near perfect . Michael Kelly may not have the prestige of Martin. Gibson and such , but as far as the sound and quality build , it simply can not be beat in this price range.Mark
I was looking for an acoustic electric guitar to do some home recording with. I already own 2 dreadnaughts so I was looking for a concert style body. I also wanted something other than a spruce top guitar, as that is what my other two acoustics are made from. I happened across this Michael Kelly model and did a lot of research to see if it would fit my needs. It looked and sounded great. The price was amazing. I was thinking that it was almost too good to be true. I ordered it from AMS and it got to me in 5 days. It's all I had hoped for. Great sound, beautiful guitar, and it was set up well. The action was nice and low just how I like it. No sharp fret ends, like you often find on lesser priced guitars. For $349.00, this thing is a steal. Love it. Thanks AMS for the quick service.

I've ordered many guitars from musicians friend over the years, never been disappointed. This is my second Taylor guitar, my first being a more expensive Taylor dreadnot style guitar. I couldn't pass up the koa for the price. This thing out of the box came with a great setup, and a phenomenal tone. It's very loud compared to my other Taylor, and delivers a serious punch when your strum. The sound is very bright with a good mid range. It does lack a little in the bass department but that's the sound I was looking for. Looks awesome in the gloss finish.Matt
I went to GC with the intent to purchase a Gibson j45 (the acoustic workhorse). So, I picked up the J 45 and played for a bit. But the Taylor Koa caught my eye. I then put down the Gibson and began playing the Taylor. Well, I couldn't put it down! The warmth of the lows, awesome midrange and sweet top end blew my ears away. I could not believe the sound. Also, it felt so very comfortable in my hand. I ran up and down the neck-single notes, scales, chords, arpeggios-all perfect frets-absent of buzz. I guess the intonation was perfect. No, it was not the same as the Gibson, but to my ear, it sounded much better AND was 1k cheaper. I could not believe it. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Gibson guitars, but this Taylor Koa-oh man! Ultimately, I purchased it (after spending about 2 hours playing it in the acoustic room)-yea, sorry for that. Anyway, you WILL NOT be disappointed when playing this guitar. Aesthetically, it is also beautiful-which initially caught my eye. But, as we all know as musicians and guitar players…it's what a guitar sounds and feels like that makes us buy a guitar-for the most part. This one has it all! Stunned.Will

I use to use Martin guitars all the time until I got my hands on this one. The one thing I love about Takamine guitars, is that the action is already lowered. So there is no need to get your guitar set up. If you pick a lot then this is your guitar or if you are a strummer your hand will feel at ease when you hold bar chords. With curly koa you get what you pay for. What I mean by that is that koa wood has a rich tone overall. Also, when koa wood ages the tones gets more richer overtime. I love the style of the preamp pick up and the built in tuner. It sounds good plugged or unplugged. IT’S HONESTLY WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!!.Gage

I couldn’t find any bad marks on the guitar whatsoever. It’s gorgeous. The case had maybe one Knick in it. I guess that was the blemish. This was a great purchase. The guitar is absolutely beautiful. It’s catches people’s eye right away. The hardware is awesome. The tuning knobs turn real smooth and hold tune for days. The pick up is crisp and clear. Absolutely professional. This guitar is the best acoustic I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a few martins and a Gretch jumbo. The guitar did come with 11 gauge strings, and I did find it alittle bit hard to fret. The action out of the box might be a little too high. Instead of adjusting the truss I decided to switch it to 10 gauge acoustic strings. It plays real easy now with the lighter strings, you can even do bends and leads on it. I researched electric acoustics in this price range extensively, and I am pretty confident I got one of the best options. I chose this guitar over the Taylor 214ce and the ce deluxe. The pick up system in this takemine, in my opinion, is superior to the Taylor system. Also the look of this guitar is much more high end and pleasing to the eye than any other good quality model under $1500. My only small complaint is the fret ends are rough to the touch. You may need to use a small fine Emory board to smooth the fret ends out.Jason
First Takamine purchase and I couldn't be happier. I own and perform regularly on a Taylor 814 CE but was thrilled when I played this guitar the first time. The most significant difference is the neck. It's shaped more like a modern players electric. It's very comfortable on the hand. I don't feel like there is any adjustment period when switching between songs. Strat to Tach and back is seamless. Love the build quality, the Koa Wood and sound too. I've only owned it a month but it feels like I've played it for years. It was instantly familiar to me and for less than half the price of my Taylor (which I also love to play).CHARLES

This guitar is amazing for under the price. I've been playing for almost 15 years so I always hesitate with instruments in this price range (I know, I'm spoiled) I played its cousin guitar, the thinner-bodied model, at a store but they only had that one. So I went online for the bulkier version. This thing sounds great unplugged, which is saying something for the ovation line, generally having a reputation as good plugged-in guitars. The construction is what one would expect for the price but this thing walks and talks like a much more expensive rig. I'm thoroughly impressed. Do yourself a favor and grab one of these even if you don't have that much experience, I can already see this one standing strong with several of my guitars that are worth tons more.Ricky
I played this instrument at a jam session once and thought that i really liked it and the round back was comfortable. So I got one. when it came it did look great but the action was pretty high (even after rmoving the factory shims). Unplugged it just doesn't have a great sound. while it is super comfortable sitting down i found that when you wear it straped on while standing it becomes awkward as it tends to tip over a bit totally unlike a standard shape acoustic. So, i sent it back. For just another 50 you can get an Ibanez artwood series acoustic electric that has much superior sound. that's what i did and I'm very happy with that.h2oboy

A special thank you to my sales engineer Matthew Langston who helped me find this guitar. As always, he is the Sweetwater difference! The KOA top is beautiful and the 12-string sound is fantastic. The pickup selection provides a wide range of sounds to fit the genre you are playing. It has been a joy to play! It is my first Taylor steel string and I haven't been disappointed.
You can read lots of pros and cons online about this model and this is just another perspective, but based on my 50 years of professional guitar performance on solid bodies, hollow bodies, dreadnaughts and salon size steel strings, nylon string and acoustic and electric 12-string. Folks who pan this Taylor apparently would be disappointed that a vintage Gibson 335 doesn't sound exactly like a D-28 and a Les Paul Custom rolled into one. Anyone who researches this model HAS to know it is not a compromise concept, it seeks to take the characteristics of both acoustic and electric guitars and make them available in one instrument. For what it does, I think it does it superbly. I play with bare, short fingernails and no picks so this may influence my tonal perception but this thing through my JBL EON One sounds gorgeous, as good as any hollow jazz box I've had and better than most of them. Solos on the humbucker can get about as much sustain and crunch as a competent player would ask for. And as for playability: this thing is a dream to play. Pulloffs and hammers are effortless, the neck feels perfect with just enough fret height to let me thumb the strings without bottoming them. The hardware is well positioned for the most part with the tone and volume controls unobtrusive as I like them; I don't need hatbox knobs that are bigger than my bathroom faucets. Fit and finish are the usual Taylor standard, which is amazing for a mass produced instrument. All in all, my purchase of this T5-C1 with maple top was one of the best guitar buys I've ever made…and I've made a lot of them. This match feels like one made in heaven and I would encourage those players who are sophisticated enough to appreciate a concept that is fresh and well executed to look closely at the T5-C1 or variants of this model as they are available. Put it to work for you and I am confident that the more you use it, the more you will come to appreciate how well the design concept works in allowing you the artistic freedom to express yourself through your instrument to the fullest.son_of_idiot
This guitar has all of the sweet sounds an functions of a T5Z guitar the form of a 12 string guitar. There is little add to this review that I haven't say in my T5Z review, except that it is in a 12 string. I could play for hours with this guitar, that I would not or could not do with other 12 stings. Playing is effortless, however it is dependent upon which songs you are playing. Great for Folk songs and single performers, but not for hard rock or Reggae. As with most 12 stings, it fills the void with sound in songs. Bar cords are relatively easy as in most 12 string guitars. I reduce the rating because it does not fit into other T5Z Taylor guitar cases. Yep! You need to buy a Dedicated Taylor case, since the T5Z cases are of a slightly narrower dimension. Like wise, other accessories are also of a slightly different dimension, rendering a need to duplicate seemingly identical accessories. This is definitely a great guitar for the price range. Guitar looks better than the photos which is definitely a plus. Nice rich warm sound as expected from having a mahogany top. Top, back, and sides have a gloss finish which I'm not too much of a fan of, but this guitar definitely pulls it off. The neck is VERY comfortable to play on, in which Breedlove makes the best feeling necks out of all the guitars I've ever played (I've owned 8 guitars ranging from martins, taylors, breedloves and more). Fishman electronics aren't too bad either. The only con I could say is that it does go slightly out of tune with each new day, but that's not really a problem for me as it only takes a few seconds to get it back in tune with the built in tuner. Comes with a Breedlove gig bag which is nice. Overall, a great product. I would definitely buy this guitar again!txion083
I had a Breedlove concert a few years back that I used to "trade up" to another semi-hollow electric guitar. A decision out of necessity that I regretted for a few years. I recently saw the opportunity to purchase a Pursuit series concert acoustic electric. I have had it for just a few weeks now and it is a great, warm sounding, easy playing instrument.Cedar Top, Mohagany back & Sides make for a balanced, not overly bright sound projection. I have one other Acoustic that is also mohagany and find that this tonewood makes for singing mids and sweet highs. Nothing brittle or jangly. It's a great value in this price range and it will provide me with years of sweet tunes.Bj Surfdog
Guitar comes with a Breedlove gigbag! Just in case you read the reviews and description and buy one just for this guitar lol. It is a nice fitted bag, kinda thin but nice overall. Guitar is beautiful, gloss finish for the body and the neck is a flatter laquer type finish. Very bright sounding and amazing construction for the price. I just got it today so I'll review further in a month or two. Low easy action, cutaway is very convenient and so far no fret buzz. I recommend a light or super light sting though as MY fingers need to get stonger but for experienced player I don't see any issues. I use elixer light sets on it and the sound is just amazing. If you were looking at a baby Taylor I say go with this. I have both and I'll take this any day over the baby Taylor. Fishman pickup with tuner is also very convenient. So far so good. I can't tell you how impressed I've been with this Ovation Celebrity Elite maple top guitar after owning it over a year now. I owned a deep body as my first made in the USA Ovation back in the 80s. Loved it but it had pretty bad feedback problems back then. I later bought a brand new Ovation Elite made in the USA that was at the time in the 90s over 1500 bucks. It was a shallow bowl and it sounded great, played great had a solid spruce top and was beautiful all around. The hardshell case was nice also and it sounded better plugged in and had no feedback issues at all. My son has that guitar now and he has the first one too. I still see those two and play them now and then and let me tell you this Celebrity Elite stands neck and neck with the other ones I had in every way but the one thing I have come to love is the mid depth bowl! It's more like the thickness of a normal guitar you play and for me it stays in my lap without the roll much much better. Besides being beautiful and I can't believe I'm going to say this but this guitar with the maple top has a better sound unplugged than the 1500 dollar one my son has. They are hard to tell apart plugged in a blind test using three of us musicians also. Overall for the money I can't recommend a better guitar to people. Some of my friends proclaim they are all about the sound in their speakers they buy for their home stereo or their cars or trucks and of course for their guitars. I have nice solid wood guitars and access to Martins and Taylors and more from time to time and I'm all about the sound also! And if you are truly honest with yourself and not letting a personal bias get in the way of your judgements the fact is that the Ovation has the best sound period! Nothing in my house has a better fuller range covering every note so evenly as this guitar. So anyway, this thing rates man! If you are hesitating don't. Everything about this screams quality! The abolone or mother of pearl trim whatever it is is beautiful and yet subtle without taking attention away from the wood and its truly like a piece of furniture in the house. When I hang this one behind the door to my closet and block the view of it my wife asks me to put another guitar there and move it out where it can be seen it's that striking looking. Also, I've bought guitars and then paid a pro to 'set it up' with better easier action many times but this one came as well set up as many I've paid to have done and I didn't feel the need to adjust it further. For whatever it's worth. I realize this is my third comment on this guitar just know you really can't fully appreciate this guitar until you have it in hand and play it and hear it! It's a big WOW at that point. And I also have come to love the strings that come on this one. They are perfect and in my experience have worn well.
Very clean , plays like I had hoped . Super pretty ! Pleased with electronics . Big Bang Guitar for the price . The Blue Maple top is a conversation in it self . If you want a Ovation Celerty Eilite , get the Case . It needs to be protected . I had a USA made Ovation that was In a Sunburst years back . I can't tell much has changed in it quality from China Made . This new Ovation has a awesome mother of Perl inlay and it is very nice . I have other nice Guitars and feel proud to have this Great playing guitar in My life . My sweet wife give to me for a special Christmas gift and it will be use to bless her ears everyday .Doug
My previous review I said the tuner that's built in did not work very well. The truth is I just didn't know how to use it very well. Once I learned it actually is spot on. This is a super guitar as easy to play as my electric the next a little narrow but fortunately I sing high in most of my stuff is with a capo. The sound of this guitar is amazing everybody that's heard it turns around and has to listen because it is so crisp! And the amount of bass well not just the base but all the ranges that comes out of it, well it's really amazing. But I wanted to correct the last review because everything I said is true but the tuner was just different to me and I didn't exactly know how to use it so it was operator error and not the fault of the guitar.

I started looking at the ef508kce legacy also laminate koa top back and sides but having played both I could tell no difference in sound. The finish is full gloss and very pretty.The electronics are great,plays great after slight truss rod adjust.I also own Japan made Takamine guitars and have always found them to be a cut above the Chinese made g series but in my opinion this guitar is an exception to that rule.The electronics are a step better on the legacy series as is the figured Koa finish,however that being said the bare bones of this guitar are every bit as good as the more expensive legacy model.This is a Great sleeper guitar buy.Save your self some money and buy this one,When playing through my Bose L1 system this guitar sounds incredibleOK guitarist
I bought this guitar in early April 2021 and I would call it a decent guitar. Pro's: The fit and finish of this guitar is beautiful. It has a nice rich sound and is easy to play. The tuner is good. The EQ & pick-up give you flexibility to adjust the sound to your liking. Con's: The strings are pretty dead sounding after a short period of time. The tuning keys are junk. You'll spin them full circle just to get a minimal tuning change, especially the G & D string tuners. The G string frequently drops out of tune. I also kept getting a weird vibration noise that sounded like it was in the sound hole after about 2 weeks of playing it and on certain notes. I traced it down to the battery cover. Opening & Closing it did not do the trick. I had to file the edges a bit to resolve it. Good guitar for a beginner/intermediate player at small venues. I would not recommend it for a professional player.33 1/3
