All i can say is, wow! studio grade compression in a pedal board sized pedal. fantastic sounding and versatile compression and sustain, this pedal is incredible! i have been simplifying my setup and hate to see it go, but i no longer use this pedal. it was always a mainstay on my pedal board. works well as an end signal compression, in the effects loop, or right after the guitar, works well as a great pedal for smoothing out the signal, or as a nice boost/preamp/compression. i have used it in multiple positions and with other compression and eq pedals it works well with other tone shaping pedals. it even plays nice with most fuzz pedals. like i said, since i have been simplifying my rig there are a lot of pedals i no longer use that are just taking up space, i would hate to see this one go but it needs to be enjoyed by others that will use it more than i. used in a smoke free home studio. has velcro on back.

This thing is absolutely worth the price. The compression doesn't deaden the sound in the name of compressing. I'm constanting impressed at how much the dynamic range is still able to breathe through it. The dials are also very easy to understand and tweak with satisfying results. Slight scratches on undersurface but essentially mint. great compressor. very natural warm tone. selling to fund a kemper! the ego compressor from wampler is somewhat unique in its application of compression, allowing to to effect the tail rather than the attack of the note so that you don't lose your attack but you do gain great sustain. they do this by introducing a 'blend' control to dial in a sound that combines both the dry and effected signal. this is a trick that has been used in studios for decades but until now has been hard to achieve in pedal form. now thanks to wampler and the ego compressor you can have huge sustain without sacrificing your attack! in every other respect the ego compressor works exactly as you would expect a pedal compressor to work, infact with the blend at 100% you can still have that choppy squashed attack compressor sound, or with the blend at 100% you can use the compressor as a clean boost.

While some claim this compressor is an optical compressor, that couldn't be further from the truth. This compressor is an OTA (operational transconductance amplifuer) design, much like a Ross or Dynacomp. That being said it is an improvement in that design. A big one. If you're into great tone does it really matter whether it is OTA, optical, flux capacitor, or glow plug? No. The bottom line is that this compressor is awesome! It can do the Ross/Dynacomp thing where it DOES squash and color your tone, or it can be as transparent as you want it to be. I have the Mini Ego on another pedalboard and I love the sustain knob on the big brother. The pedal has phenomenal versatility. As a bassist, I've been using compressors in my signal chain for live performances (and recording) for decades . . . I have always used rack units VS pedals . Being able to set the Ratio, Threshold, Attack, Release is an advantage on a full scale unit. I find this pedal, click ON, click OFF to be extremely limited in effectiveness . And, I'm not comprehending the "individual string" compression algorithms that TC touts, also, the sound is not all that clean . But for a quickie, (i.e.I want some compression on my guitar or bass) ok, cool, plug it in! . . . but be prepared to " grin and bear" it you feel you need to adjust it. because, you do not have that capability with this box . Keeley has come up with an excellent pedal here. To me, the real star of this pedal is the treble boost and blend knob option on the compressor, really changes the game on the legendary keeley comp. I had a 4 knob version previously, and never could really bond with it. This, however, has become the base for my tone. The 1962/katana section is great, although I wish there was an option to use the boost with the 1962. That is my only real gripe with the entire pedal. Perhaps having just a boost knob instead of having to switch it out. But I still love the great clean boost from the katana with my mesa, and the 1962 it great for a faux Marshall sound. The "red dirt" section is……well, it's a tubescreamer, what else can you say, really? It does what it's supposed to do. I'm not a huge ts fan, but, it's still very useful for boosting or for that SRV sound. The built is solid, and the size, for the amount of options and the fact that it is 4 pedals in one, is absolutely great. A very small footprint on your board for the amount of tone you get. I have been a Keeley fan for years and was excited to get this gem of a pedal that replaced my older Keeley compressor, Keeley-modded BD-2 Blues Driver and clean boost. This pedal does all three and more, making my pedal board much simpler. Don't need to say much about the compressor – Keeley is arguably the best. I love both the Katana boost and the 1962 drive in the boost section. Just delicious tone. The drive section adds another level and variety of dirty tone. I have only had it a week but know that it will be a permanent part of my board. Keep in mind this pedal is at its best when sending signal into a tube amp, helping it come alive. If you are looking for a heavy medal distortion this pedal is probably not for you.Ryan

Rhe baked Mod is a Tubescreamer with more overdrive than a tubescreamer (red dirt). The "1962" is a bluesbreaker circuit. It can be stacked into the Tubescreamer(red dirt) the Katana is a clean boost the tone knobs are disabled when you switch the keeley pedal to Katana The Katana can stack into the Red Dirt or the "1962" can stack imto the red dirt ( tubescreamer. I haven't fully worked through all the options and permutations yet but this is a great little unit. Works well with other pedals and has some good sounds on board. I bought it for the modulation features, but was pleasantly surprised by the two overdrives, I have an overdrive but only really use it as a clean boost. The Keeley overdrives say "use me". Having purchased this unit among other pedals to replace a Zoom B2.1u Multi FX unit, I found myself wondering whether there really was anything to gain from the change. I was very quickly convinced that it was worth every cent, as the MXR compressor gives you all the versatility you could want in a compressor. The LED bar graph shows you exactly how much compression is being applied at a given moment, and serves as a fantastic way to adjust your settings so that the signal is being compressed exactly where and when you want it to be. Your eyes will tell you what your ears may not! Unlike many of my other pedals, the MXR Bass Compressor stays in the state you leave it in. Other effects need to be toggled on or off to suit my 'default' sound every time the pedal board is plugged in, but thanks to the 3PDT toggle switch, this unit stays in the state you left it in. If it was on when you unplugged, it'll be on when you plug in again, and vice versa! The other benefit of this type of switch is that you get true bypass. Overall, the MXR Bass compressor is very compact, built tough, versatile, adjustable, doesn't color your tone, and leaves you believing it couldn't possibly be improved, as it's already PERFECT! I would absolutely buy another one if this was stolen and would not even need to consider the competition!leftybenno
it's hard to tell what is really happening here unless you really pay attention very closely to the sound of what's NOT happening, meaning, you are trying to focus the sound, tone, ambience, etc. yet at the same time, you want it to do what it's meant for – very hard to discern when there's no manual to go by. The manual for this unit is absolutely TERRIBLE – sure it's in every language in the world, but NO real directions for setup or how to make the sound improved. No theory of operation, nothing. Worst manual I ever opened. For anything ever bought in my lifetime. And no link to direct you to better, more detailed instructions on how to use. Very disappointed in that regard. Other than that, it does seem to make my overall sound less sloppy ( less speaker "wow" & flutter is the goal, when playing bass, with one of these compressors) so it seems to be eliminating what you DON'T want to hear, but it takes some time to get this pedal oriented correctly, with the controls. And you really have to pay attention to what you're NOT hearing, as you tweak it – that's the only way you'll know if you are improving on the sound.bass player # 69
This is the 3rd and final compressor I tried. I like the visual readout which is quite helpful. This pedal has a lot of different sounds it can help create. I play 4 to 5 times a week in two different bands. The one band is a hard rock/funk band and the other is a country band. Needless to say my tone is different in each situation. This pedal helps me get to where I need to and quickly. Once you figure out the pedal, it is really easy to use. There were no reviews for this pedal, so I thought I'd add one in case anyone is considering this pedal. This is the pedal you put at the end of your signal chain and set threshold amounts for gain that you don't want to exceed, and it enforces those limits. I have mine right before a volume pedal that I use to start/stop tracks. It is an excellent product with a lot of flexibility as far as how you want to limit your overall signal so you don't blow out your amp (?) or more importantly during recording so you don't have some crazy squall that ruins the whole recording. I have used several compressors including a JHS modded Dyna-comp and and Xotic SP compressor. I love this compressor. Being set up like a rack mounted piece of equipment is great. You actually know what you are doing instead of guessing. The only drawback is how small the writing is around the knobs. I highly recommend it. I use it for getting a balanced great sound out of my strat–although I basicaly run it always on for my Gretsch Tennessee Rose as well.Mrose4252

The compressor for people who don't like compressors has some great new features in it's version 4 design. one of our favorite pedals! just the overall sound of this pedal is enough to make you never turn it off, and so, it's now a di as well for bass and acoustic players. a decidedly more electric feature is the new dirt toggle. this switch works in conjunction with the side accessible trim pot and allows you to activate your desired amount of dirt/overdrive into the signal path. this control is a magic bullet for bass players who want to cut through the mix or for electric players who only need compression and dirt as the foundation of their tone. on the side of the pnp you will also notice that the internal bypass buffer is switchable on-the-fly. for true bypass operation turn this off, but for buffered bypass signal to drive your long cable lengths and to restore lost tone, turn this on. the eq control is also new (four knobs now). when set at noon, the control is bypassed. turning the eq to the left allows you to darken while moving to the right lets you brighten the tone.

Th e Pulp n' Peel is a good and well built pedal that does what it advertises. The compressor is subtle and enhances the sound nicely. The pre amp aspect of the pedal is a welcome addition to my set up, although I have yet to try the DI facility. As I said, the pedal is well built.
